I need to set up a computer that will accept Windows 95B/OSR2 as its operating system to play some old games that won't run on anything > Windows 95B/OSR2. What processor family will work -- Pentium II, Pentium III, Pentium 4, .

Let me know if your still having issues.It will run on any of the processors you listed there.Unfortunately, the Win95IsAlive site doesn't directly address the issue of compatible operating systems, but it has a lot of other useful info, so thanks for that. Unless SOMEONE else here GIVES me info to the contrary about Win95B and Pentium 4's, I know where I can get a pretty stripped down Pentium 4 without an OS, but adequate for my purposes with a warranty and return period.

I guess I really don't need anything else, just being cautious because a local used computer store said it wouldn't work on a P4. But maybe I should be leery of them -- they told me it work on an Athlon 1.1 Mhz and it didn't. Thanks for your help. I have WIN98SE running on a P4.

Sorry to bother you again, but even if I get Windows95B to run on a P4, I looked for drivers from the manufacturers' websites (Dell, IBM (now Lenovo), and Compaq) of some of the MACHINES I'm considering. I couldn't even find their model numbers in the lists where you search for drivers in some cases. In other cases, they had drivers for the machine, but they didn't have anything listed specifically for Windows 95B; the closest were for Windows 98 or 98SE. Can I assume these will work on Windows 95B and it's just that they don't support Windows 95 any more so they just left it off the list?

SueHave you ever considered getting Virtual PC. You can set up windows 95 on a virtual machine and play those games that way. Interesting that you would mention that. I talked to a math/computer science prof. friend this afternoon and that was his suggestion. 2 for 2 knowledgeable people with the same answer and another response that Win95B would work on a on P4 are more than enough info for me. We'll have a used P4 in the house soon.
