basicly web browsing and simple programsYou decide. It's a dumb question. I can say 1024x768 but SOMEONE else might say different. A lot depends on monitor type & size.

As Salmon Trout SAID, it all depends on the monitor.

16bit would be 65536 colors.
256 colors would be...well....256 colors.
This means that, if you choose to use 16 bit colors, you will have improved graphics.

As for the screen resolution, 1024x768 is the most common resolution, but you will have to see what the monitor can display.
