Answer» I have successfully gotten Windows 3.1 to run with Windows 98 installed. I just have to restart in DOS mode. The only problem is that it will only run in standard mode. WHENEVER I try to run it in 386-enhanced mode, I get an error saying I have an incompatable version of DOS (I figured something like that would happen). Any ideas on how to fix this?
-JohnIF anyone wants instructions on how to install Win 3.1 with Win 98, I can GIVE them to you.Where would you obtain Windows 3.1?Try http://www.retrosoftware.comWhat would the difference between Windows 3.1 and 3.11 be ?win98 is win3.1 ??so is win95/winme xp borrows files from the old systems?to run.........what are the specs of your pc......if you seek freeo/s>>http://www.freeos.com/download.php?PHPSESSID=518ed8e87a3056beccd28c1edc282e3cNo no no no no... I had the Windows 3.1 disks and one day got brave enough to try to install it. I did, and it worked.Windows 3.11 was a little bit more stable then Windows 3.1
Windows for Workgroups 3.11 won't WORK with Windows 98 (because it only runs in 386-enhanced mode) but Windows 3.11 will. There is little visible difference between Windows 3.1 and 3.11, in fact even the splash screen still says Windows 3.1Much obliged. I am looking into ORDERING Windows 3.11 on 9 diskettes. See if I can get it to work as well.Keep in mind that you can only install it with Windows 95 or 98. ANYTHING newer than that doesn't support real mode DOS, Because Windows 3.x is more of a DOS shell than an OS. I have figured out the best way to get it to work, so just ask for instructions and I will give you some.
