Solve : windows 95 missing sys files?

Answer»

:-/For Windows 95, my CD-Rom LOST it's DRIVER and does not work. So everything has to be done with floppys. I tried using a windows 95 start-up disk to get a driver loaded. No help there. I tried downloading the driver to a floppy and installing it from the floppy, did no work. Now when I start the computer I get the following..........................
Dev\Atapi-CD.SYS  Missing or Corrupt
There is an error in your Config.sys file on Line 4
C:\Windows\Himen.sys  Missing or corrupt
C:\Windows\DBLBUFF.sys  Missing or corrupt
C:\Windows\IFSHLP.sys  Missing or corrupt
The following file is missing or corrupt COMMAND.COM
Type the name of the Command Interpreter(e.g.., C:\Windows\Command.com)
C>

HELP! How do I get these files back?
I want to upgrade to Windows 98. But can't without a CD Drive.
Download a Win 98SE boot disk. All the CD drivers will be on it. Free at www.bootdisk.comDidn't work. Says Invalid system disk, replace disk and press any key.
I can't get Windows to start, only in Safe Mode! [smiley=huh.gif]You have to go into the BIOS and get the machine to boot from the floppy drive before the hard drive. Then restart the machine with the bootdisk you made from the downloaded file in the floppy drive.   OK, filles transfered to Drive C.
Then I get the A:> prompt
Restarted without CD-Rom support. Still missing the above sys files
So with the bootdisk in I copied at the A:> copy himem.sys C:\Windows
                                                              copy COMMAND.Com C:\Windows
And each file was copied
Still doesn't start windows.
scandisked No Problems with C drive
Still missing CD-Rom Driver
How do I load the driver for the Mitsumi Double Speed CD-Rom in Safe Mode from the Bootdisk?
And where do I load it to?
Can I do that from Safe Mode?
What is the DBLBUFF.SYS & IFSHLP.SYS?

the Mitsumi Double Speed CD-Rom in Safe Mode from the Bootdisk?

This hardware is a piece of history and I'm sure most folks here have never even seen one of these. The drivers were proprietary, and frequently ran off their own CONTROLLER card or off a supported sound card. (It would have saved some time if you mentioned this dinosaur in your first post!)

Did this work correctly before? Where does the other end of the IDE CD cable hook in? And no changes to the hardware since when it worked and now? Or was this just added to the machine?

I would suggest borrowing a later generation CD drive (8x or later) at least for the installation, and maybe permanently. If it hasn't failed yet, it probably will soon. What model is that drive? You may try doing  a google search for the model number and the word "driver".

Just out of curiosity who else here has dealt with a Mitsumi 2x drive? Show of hands?jesus, how old is this relic you call a computer? i would kill the thing trying to use it for what i use mine...

EDIT: btw, COMMAND.COM is a DOS file... i remember this from having to format ole computers from the win 98 cd, D:\win98\format.com i belive was the file path...I am fixing it for a friend, but it seems I'm not going to be able to fix it!
So I'm going to install my old CD-Rom, NEC, and hopefully it will allow me to get to Windows from there!
Thanks for your help. I'll Post after I get it in!But I am curious. Where did the CD data cable plug in? Don't tell me the motherboard.
