Solve : Windows 98 SE?

Answer»

This is just a PROBLEM which has been annoying me for a long TIME, but I've had it again TODAY so might as well post it. Whenever I download a driver for some usb device with my windows98 se (which came with less drivers than my cellphone did it seems) it just never, ever, ever will install properly.

Take today.

I'm using a I/O Magic 24x10x32 Portable USB 2.0, which the windows 98 driver is found at http://www.toggle.com/lv/group/view/kl60049/Driver_I_O_Magic_24x10x32_Portable_USB_2.0.htm

I downloaded the driver, transferred it to the computer, ran the setup file, it said i had to restart.

I restarted.

At the dos prompt a couple of things came up to do with the setup, it continued loading windows, and then "Windows has found new hardware."
"Add new hardware wizard"!
"Windows cannot find a driver for USB TO IDE device."

*evils*

Am I doing something wrong, or do people post these useless drivers on the internet just for laughs? This is about the fourteenth device and driver that hasn't worked for me with my computer. It's driving me nuts.

Thanks for the replies,

Hi
I had this problem with 98se and 2000.
If you download the driver file to a new folder in my documents and OPEN a folder there you can then open the file it should ask where do you want to save it to.save it the the file you will see it open and all drivers will be there.
when the found new hardware comes up tell it you will say where to look.browse the folders until you find the one you want say OK and it should find it
The system should then find the driver and install.

I think that all the new drivers are missing something that 98 and 2000

Tried this, no success. It just says it can't find the driver.
