Answer» WINDOWS 98 becomes frozen at Microsoft Windows 98 screen when I try to shut down and my on/off BUTTON on the computer then ceases to work also for a cold shutdown.  I then PRESS the restart button on the computer which then seems to restore the on/off button for a cold shutdown.   This has been going on for about 10 days. I have since downloaded Ad-Aware to remove spyware, GOT rid of some programs, including some running in the tray to reduce memory use, but have still not found a way to correct the problem. I use Verizon DSL which use MSN Messenger, McAfee Anti-Virus and FIrewall which are constantly running. Is it a memory problem? My computer has 250 MB of RAM.madalyn: These links should have everything you NEED to troubleshoot the problem: http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=238096&product=w98 http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=202633 Let us know if you need more assistance. . |
