Solve : Windows 98SE Freezeup?

Answer»

After using 98SE for 7yrs on my PC with no problems,
I finally loaded Media Player 9 to play music.
When I booted this am my screen locked in the windows logo screen.
Obviously MP9 has caused this, but now I can't load windows to uninstall it.
Any help please?
ThanksMedia player 9 does not come with an uninstall option.Do you have your
install disk for windows 98?Can you boot to safe mode and remove it?In the component section (on the left) of the Add/Remove PROGRAMS applet in the Control Panel, you can indeed remove the windows media player.

Good luck. 8-)Well,do you know how to boot into safemode? Thank you all.
Safe Mode removal did the job.
Is there any fix for this problem?
Microsft states MP9 is recommended for 98SE.??K-Lite Codec Pack 2.80 Full. It's free and better than Media Player.

Are you saying that the mere saying by Microsoft that MP9 is recommended for 98SE is a problem?  Why is that a problem?  Just because they say that doesn't mean you have to get it, and that you can't continue using an older version, does it?
Soybean, sorry but your post makes no sense to me.
I did'nt say that them recommending MP9 was a problem.
I said I had a problem with the program.
I,m aware that there are other players out there.
I know I can use any one of them I choose.
My question pertained to a fix for the freezing problem. (I Had).
Maybe I'm the only one who had this problem, and there is no fix.
Maybe I INSTALLED the program incorrectly, or something is conflicting here.
Thanks for replying though.I think what soybean was saying is that considering Win98 is 10 years old and that MP9 is about 3 or 4 years old is that the developers didn't exactly spend a great deal of time making it backwards compatible...Thank you Patio.
Your comment I understand.
Reading between the lines, Soybean's is also understandable.
Us old guys that have a Windows OS, and are used to it, and just hate change,
and perhaps somewhat intimidated by new upgrades (XP) tend to hang onto things that work.
I have quite a few toys that only work with 98SE (camera, SCANNER, printers etc.) and XP does
not support these old BABIES. (I have checked)
With all that said, I do have an old (3 YRS) homebuilt XP Pro system in a Compaq SFF with new motherboard and
3.2 CPU (barebones otherwise) that will play my music (also old) and Perry Como sounds pretty good
using MP10.
Oh-----MP7.1 running OK on my 98 system

P.S. My old 1966 Ford fastback still runs real well, hope I never have to replace the 5 speed  lol.

Thanks for the help, ALL.Below you will find the Unofficial Service Pack for Win98SE...

These guys put a lot of work into it...

Here Ya Go..
