Solve : Trying to Run Old .avi Files cvid codec not installed properly!? |
Answer»

Hello,

I'm paying Resident Evil Original successfully, however whenever I reach a .avi video cut scene the screen either freezes or goes black, i hear the audio and then then the game continues. I never see the picture. I tried opening the files in window's media player and again heard the sound but got no picture. Media player said I as missing the CVID Codec.

So i went online got the codec file called iccvid.DLL and then attempted to install. I placed the file in C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32 and ran "regsvr32 iccvid.dll" in the Run on the START menu and got:

"iccvid.dll was loaded, but the DLLRegisterServer entry point was not found.

DllRegisterServer may not be exported, or a corrupt version of iccvid.dll may be in memory. Consider using PView to detect and REMOVE it."

I tested the video and RESTARTED with no succes. So i went on to some additional instructions i found having to do with the registry. I created a string value in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\Drivers32" named "VIDC.CVID" with value
"iccvid.dll" and create a string value in "HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows
NT\CurrentVersion\drivers.desc" with name "iccvid.dll" and
value "Cinepak Codec by Radius Inc."

This didnt fix it either. I've have tried different iccvid.dll files as well and had no succes. If anyone could help it would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you!I'm guessing you got a bad version of the DLL i.e. a custom written version or just a renamed DLL. Anyone can rename VIRUS.DLL to ICCVID.DLL

If you are sure it is corrent, you might be missing some required DLL files. For example, a file DATABASE.EXE could require a DLL MSACCESS.DLL, but if you only download that DLL, you still need MYSQL.DLL. This is just an example, not to be taken as actual requirements.Go to Start/Run and type in sfc /scannow and hit Enter...
Have your Windows CD handy as it will ask for it.
Do NOT interrupt it...
When it finishes remove the CD and re-bootthank you for the help. VERY annoyingly that computer is now suffering from an even more serious problem (which I am succesfully fixing) but makes it currently unbootable. My apologies for not being able to follow up but currently that computer doesnt even start up in SAFE mode.

Hopefully it will be back by next week and i will certainly test out that recomendation.

Thank you and sorry,

Resident EVil

| |
