Answer»

I have HP Pavilion 4455...It was a little slow (in September) so I used the recovery disc that came with the PC...I cannot open any page because of "script error"....I was told by techies that W98 was not supported & was no longer WORTH using.....I had a friend load W2K Pro...It is very slow & I can't get the modem to work. Are you conencting your computer strait from the modem or trought some sort of LAN? Because i still use win 98 and 95 for MANY dos games i don't have much experiance in w2k but i may be able to help.1. System RAM. How much is installed in the system?

2. Windows 98. If you reloaded from the "recovery" disc, what internet browser (and version number) were you using?

I thought you needed Internet Explorer 6 SP1 to access Window Updates. (Windows Update was "updated" to use newer browser technologies).

I also assume you would get script errors if you're trying to access modern web site using a really old version of Internet Explorer. You might try last version of Mozilla Firefox (version 2.0.0.20) that's compatible with Windows 98.

2. Windows 2000 Professional.
a. Modem.
(1) Dial-up, DSL, or cable modem?
(2) Is it integrated on-board the motherboard, a separate internal card, or an external modem?
ok now thats more clear of what he ment by script error. Ok I also had this problem on my 1999 Ibm Thinkpad a20m. Like dahlarbear said what explorer ver. are you using. Because i was using win 98 original which was like, well i don't know and in feb when i logged into youtube.com there was a message saying this
on march 15 or somethink like that this web browser will be no longer available so i just DOWNLOADED Oprah browser and everything works fine. Newest flash updates videos, e-mail.......... And fast!

here:http://en.utilidades-utiles.com/download-opera-windows-98.phpOk thanks for the replies...I finally gave up on the W98 for now....I got the driver for the modem....changed PCI slots....loaded the driver & removed the sound card....at last ..finally got on line....so I guess I'll run W2K...I don't really like it but SINCE W98 is not supported it seems all I can do...I'll work on the sound card later...thanks again for all the help
