Solve : windows 95 updates? |
Answer»

Can someone help me with a windows 95 problem? My husband bought a computer with windows 95 on it and internet explorer 4.0. I wanted to update the explorer and all other updates needed. Is there a link in microsoft's website that will let me update all of this? And does anyone know if internet explorer 6.0 is compatible with windows 95?
Or will I have to use an earlier version than 6.0? I would appreciate the help.
Thanks
RondaQuote
...bought a computer with windows 95 on it and internet explorer 4.0. I wanted to update the explorer and all other updates needed. I don't think IE6 will work with Win95. Try Mozilla FIREFOX. http://www.mozilla.org/products/firefox/

Better to update to Win98SE.
Quote
Better to update to Win98SE.

Bear in mind that you probably won't get a copy in the shops: you'll need to find a friend who no longer uses it and buy their copy. The only version avaliable in the shops now is XP, but given that you have 95 installed I doubt your hardware would be able to support it.

If you still WANT to stick to IE though, try http://www.oldversion.com/ . Does exactly what it says on the tin...
Thank you for all of your replys. I went to www.oldversion.com and the only latest version of internet explorer they had was 3.0 and I have 4.0 so I don't think I want to go backwards. I just want to get the next internet explorer from 4.0 for windows 95 for security reasons until I can get windows 98 installed. Is there a newer version of internet explorer for windows 95 and if so where can I download it ? I have tried looking EVERYWHERE including mircrosoft.com. Please help again.
Thanks,
RondaQuote
just want to get the next internet explorer from 4.0 for windows 95 for security reasons

If you were very concerned about security, you'd not use Internet Explorer at all.

Use Mozilla Firefox as Computer_Commando suggested.this one SEEM ok>http://isis2.admin.usf.edu/Downloads/downloadie55.htmOpera will work with Win95, Firefox will not (according to Mozilla): http://www.opera.com/download/Firefox won't work, but Mozilla program will. It not only has the browser (effectively the Firefox browser) but also INCLUDES an email client, IRC client and a WYSIWYG webpage editor.

It's an 11MB download, which might be a bit large on a dial-up connection though. I did use it for a while, and I must say it's *censored* good.

http://www.mozilla.org/products/mozilla1.x/

Nowadays, Opera is my main choice of browser. Either of these apps are very good (at least if you don't mind the latter's ad's)

| |
