Solve : Outlook stops with more than one account? |
|
Answer» I'm using OUTLOOK 2000. I had one EMAIL account for years that works fine. But I set up a second email account on a different server recently, and I'm checking both accounts with one Outlook profile (IMO mode). It tends to work fine for a while, it sends and receives well, but later in the day (presumably when peak time hits) it will inevitably get a server timeout or error connecting server. I know the error is a result of the server, HOWEVER, my Outlook never reconnects with the server once it gets the error. The only way to reconnect is to shut down Outlook and reopen it, then I have a bunch of email downloaded that were WAITING for me on the server. One other computer in my office has the same problem, but 8 others do not. |

Solve : Problems with connecting to the web? |
|
Answer» Hello all. Here's one for all of those of you who are far cleverer than me. I didn't know quite where to post it since it covers a variety of software manufacturers Control Panel > Internet Properties > Connections has Tiscali Broadband as my default and 'dial whenever a network connection is not present. I don't know about LAN settings because unless I'm horribly mistaken I'm not on any network, and anyway, beyond knowing what LAN stands for, I know very little about how it works. You should remove all Dial-up entries and configurations. If you are using broadband, there is no reason to keep the Dial-up settings.Load the tiscali install disk!Quote
How do I do that? If I go into Tools > Options whilst on the Tiscali internet or into Control Panel > Internet Properties > Connections (I'm on Windows XP) then there are essentially 2 options: 'Dial Up and Virtual Private Network Settings' and 'LAN Settings'. The dial up one is selected, with the only option in the box below reading 'Tiscali Broadband (Default)', which presumably I use. If I CLICK on the 'Settings...' icon then none of the boxes are ticked, including the one about a proxy server. However, I noticed today that when going on to the internet it says at the bottom of the screen that it is trying to connect to a proxy server related to the old connection of my mum's workplace, which we should have nothing to do with anymore. Anyway, am I in the right area to fix this, and if so then should I be using 'Dial Up and Virtual Private Network Settings' or 'LAN Settings' to connect, or something else entirely? I didn't think broadband had anything to do with dial ups or LANs, or that a proxy server is used if you just have a straightforward account with an ISP. Also, in Control Panel > Network Connections the one icon under 'LAN or High Speed Connections' is red-crossed, whislt under 'Dial Up' the AOL Dial-On-Demand feature says it is disconnected but warns me 'do NOT delete' and Tiscali Broadband is connected. I didn't think I used a network either... I'm sure this is a simple problem, but it's got me stumped. Thanks people. PS: Yes, I have installed the broadband correctly with the installation disc. At least it told me it was completely successful. Quote I noticed today that when going on to the internet it says at the bottom of the screen that it is trying to connect to a proxy server related to the old connection of my mum's workplace, which we should have nothing to do with anymore. This may very well be the problem, you should not require proxy settings unless your provider has told you so. Or unless you find it necessary to use them yourself. You can change the proxy settings from 1. Start 2. Settings 3. Control Panel 4. Internet Options 5. Connections tab 6. LAN settings From the same tab, you should remove entries not associated with your new ISP. |

Solve : Problem with Windows Media Player 10? |

Answer» I have MusicMatch Jukebox Plus Version 10 which I uninstalled thinking it was the cause of the problem. I have reinstalled it, it has identified all my tracks ok but I have the same sound problem now with that. I want to burn to cd but for some reason meadia player doesn't like my cdr's and musicmatch cd burner crashes, so either way I can't burn to cd. I had the same problem with my CD-RW drive as well. Solve : gfx files in PrintArtist? |
|
Answer» Hi all the newer versions will not open gfx files So you have a newer version of Print Artist that won't recognize these files? Quote The people who own it now will not talk about such an old version You have contacted Sierra about this, and they can't help?Hi Yes that is correct, all new versions of Print Artist will not open gfx files and print artist 4 had 14,000 of them. They are like clip art and are in gfx folders of various types. On the print artist FORUM, people are bemoaning the fact that they cannot open the old files. A recent sale on EBay of a print Artist CD had people asking was it a version that OPENED gfx files. It wasn't. The product changed hands but that does not explain why they dropped that particular type. What is frustrating is the block on me making a copy from 95 to XP of version 4. I can get the 2 .exe program files but one SAYS its an on line loading file, but It isn't and the other says it needs command (dos) instructions to install. Sometimes I get the message "a second copy is not allowed". I will have made a back up copy on 95. Best wishes Dave EdwardsHave you tried downloading a program which may be able to read these files? If there is so much demand, no doubt someone has taken the time to write a program which can convert or open them.I've done a fair bit of surfing, and haven't been able to find anything that will solve your problem. But there's a lot of bright, helpful people here; with luck perhaps one of them can offer some sort of solution. Good luck. Hi Raptor & Hopestar, Thanks for trying. I have now got the answer from the Print Artist forum. It had been answered in February this year. http://home.earthlink.net/-pam_ckbks/pabrowser/browser.exe I was told to right click and it downloaded a program browser.exe which INDEED converts glx files to WFM which print artist versions after 4 can import and read. I spent about 4 hours getting all the 16 bit files into a WFM folder .......9523 files in 85 folders. There are as many again in 8 bit. Are they likely to be the same ? Answer» When I START ONE of my other computers it comes up with sone kind of error report and asks if I want to send it, but the main problem the mouse. Let me try to explain. It boots with the cursor in the middle, I can't move it to the left at all, then once I move it to the right it won't go back left at all. So once it gets to the end of the right side that is it. What did I do? lol And can I fix it?Which operating system is this? Is this a wireless mouse? Do you have virus and Spyware protection? Have you scanned for them? Have you tried using another mouse? windows xp pro Try the following: 1. Before Windows XP loads, press F8 2. Choose last known good configuration 3. Press Enter I am not sure when it started but, I also can't get rid of the stupid winfix 2005. It keeps d/l itself. Could that be it? I ran an adware remover program and it isn't getting it.Type msconfig in the run box..click startup folder.and untick winfixQuote I am not sure when it started but, I also can't get rid of the stupid winfix 2005. It keeps d/l itself. Could that be it? I ran an adware remover program and it isn't getting it. Raymona, if you think that you are being under attack by a Trojan Horse (no pun intended) you should DOWNLOAD and install a firewall: Firewalls Use both a hardware and software firewall. Be advised as DUAL software firewalls may cause problems ZoneAlarm Free -- Free firewall - more user friendly Sygate Personal -- Free firewall - more configuration optionsI thought I had one with the router or hub or what ever, cause my boys have to go around it all the time. I ran a free virus SCAN that I got from a link somehere on here and it found some and removed all but and it seems to be that one. It says it drops a copy and when removed drops another one or something. It wants me to do all kinds of things I am not sure of or would need to be walked through. lol I don't know what to do with it. Quote I thought I had one with the router or hub or what ever, cause my boys have to go around it all the time. That's a plus, however, software firewalls allow for program control. Which your Router will not. You should install both a hardware and software firewall. Should you need help configuring either, we're here for you. As for 'bypassing', this is called port forwarding. Solve : Firefox configuration? |
|
Answer» Quote
I have it installed at both work and home so please enlighten me. Let's get started! First of all, you will want to enable manual cookie control: 1. Tools 2. Options 3. Privacy 4. Cookies 5. Tag Allow sites to set cookies and then select Ask me every time. Tag For the originating website only if you want less requests. Once a request has been made to place a cookie, you can easily deny, accept or temporarily accept the cookie. This will make certain that no unknown cookies will enter your system and track your habbits (HENCE the name tracking cookies) The pop-up blocker is built-in. Firefox should warn you when a pop-up is blocked. But I never bother with pop-ups, even if they are friendly. Any website that requires pop-ups to function works. Firefox will not accept ActiveX elements. This is a huge increase in security, but you may need to use Internet Explorer should you ever visit a website which requires ActiveX. Or you can download the ActiveX extension that I have seen. (Not tested) As for security related extensions, you may want to try the following: Noscript Blocks JavaScript and asks for you to allow it by means of a yellow bar. I only allow Javascript for websites that I frequently visit and trust. (This is not the same as entirely disabeling JavaScript!) Adblock Blocks ads by right clicking and selecting Adblock image. XXX Block Blocks adult content. Bit crude, but very customizeable. Only extension which is capable of doing so. FlashBlock Blocks Flash movies and replaces them with a > icon so that you can view them in your own time, and not when the website thinks you should. Also eliminates nasty background songs that intertwine with your music if they are played via Flash. (Try http://www.stalker-game.com with and without, you'll see what I mean) PDF Reader Allows you to choose what you want to do with PDF files. Read in HTML, Download or open with a . PDF reader. Then there are some extensions you just need to have: All In One Gestures Command the browser with your mouse or simply add shortcuts. (I use it to create new TABS by simply keeping my LMB pressed and dragging it upwards. Fully customizeable) ForecastFox Brilliant extension to find the temperature in your city or anywhere on the world! And it doesn't even come with spyware. Most useful of all the functions in Firefox: Click with the middle mouse (Scrollwheel) on a link and it will open in a new tab. You can close tabs by clicking on their tab icons with the middle mouse . There is more to explore, but these are the most noteworthy functions!Stick with ie..........Quote Stick with ie.......... Usually, an opinion or advice comes with an explanation. But I guess we shouldn't expect one from you since you weave 'm from thin air. Thanks Raptor, I'm all set up... well minus the extensions you listed that I didn't find important of course Um merlin, I did already say I used Firefox in the other thread and as Raptor stated I'd APPRECIATE there being reasons behind an opinion.Quote Thanks Raptor, I'm all set up... well minus the stuff you listed that I didn't find usefull of course Excellent! You may need to get used to the manual cookie control, but it'll become your friend real soon if you've got the patience. Tracking cookies will become strangers to you in a matter of minutes. You can install more extensions by going to: 1. Tools 2. Extensions 3. More extensions There are literally hundreds of extensions and a lot of them are very interesting. Do not forget that Mozilla Firefox comes with a built in RSS reader. You may have allready noticed that you can see the latest headlines from BBC.com. You can add website if you like. But the website does need to have an RSS feader URL.This is how my browser ID's the OS and browser type User-Agent: SpacedOut/0.01 [fu] (Win67; X; IEsucksbigtime) I guess a lot of sites look at their server logs and scratch their heads. Its just my opinion of IE. Quote
It definately will take some getting used to with the manual cookie dealie but I understand why it could be usefull. I'm not quite sure what I'd use the RSS feader for but maybe I'll try it.Quote I'm not quite sure what I'd use the RSS feader for but maybe I'll try it. Did you download the ENGLISH variant of the browser?Quote
Yes I have the english version, why?Quote
The Latest Headlines is an RSS feed. It will automaticaly find the latest articles that are posted on a website with an RSS feed. I find it a darn good invention. Msoft will soon.....clamp down on firefox usage! |

Solve : xp firewall + norton internet worm protection? |
|
Answer» Hello! Can anyone tell me how to switch NIWP off, when it's not really there ...? Quote But I run XP SP2 from a recovery CD on a HP. Could there be the problem? It must be there, otherwise it would not be detected. Did the PROGRAM by any chance come with the recovery CD that you are using?Download & run 'Autoruns' from http://www.sysinternals.com for a better understanding of what is running on your computer.Fed, got Autoruns but didn't help much in this case. Looked for anything by publisher "Symantec" or like that and every unknown thing turned out as something else. But nice tool anyway !!! Raptorsorry, was interrupted, ANSWER was not complete: Raptor: it is on the CD! I did that: install AntiVirus, switched everything off an uninstalled it again. Now Worm Protection is gone. Thanks all for your help! Petra |

Solve : How can I delete song from playlist? |
|
Answer» Hi OK Good QUESTION. I only use Windows Media Player. You can right click on the song list and choose Open folder with files and from there delete the songs. But not directly, I don't think. Although there is a delete from list and delete BUTTON.Open a windows explorer window in the songs directory at the same time. It's called multitasking.Yes I know what you mean but is it my idea in this forum is to find a program where I can listen and delete song direct from playlist because how you see 5000 songs are pretty much so if I use this method with exploler and winamp(or windows media player) I'll be lost lots of my time. But thank's for the offer.Have you tried doing it from the media library in Windows Media Player?Yes I try with windows media player and the results are bad. I can't delete a song from library or from the playlist I can only remove with "delete" button this song.I would go for a job in the Professions and become a doctor, dentist, or a surgeon. |

Answer» I was just wondering if there are any SOFTWARE programs that alert you of incoming phonecalls while you are on the internet.AOL has that feature if you're a member. I was just wondering if there are any software programs that alert you of incoming phonecalls while you are on the internet. try it in google "CALL alert software" http://www.google.com/search?client=opera&rls=en&q=call+alert+software&sourceid=opera&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8I sent LocalNet an email and this was their reply. "Hello! LocalNet does not offer this particular service. HOWEVER, MAY of these types of service available online are compatible with LocalNet. You can try a google search for 'callwave' or 'call alert' to locate some options." I FOUND Call Alert, which is free, at http://www.ivrsoft.com/call-alert.htm. Thank you for all your help. |

Solve : daylight savings doubles outlook appointments? |
|
Answer» I have all my appointments in MS Outlook. I live in Colorado and we are currently on Daylight savings time. When the time changed it made all my Outlook appointments spread across 2 days. I had to CLICK on the clock in the system tray and remove the daylight savings check to have my Outlook show my appointments correctly. BUT now my clock is off by an hour. Anyone know how to fix this? To go back where you start do system restore if you have WinXPWell, he can't just download MS Project. It's not free, you know. And since he has Outlook, he obviously wants a solution. Something is wrong there; the change to Daylight Savings Time should not cause that to happen. Quote I have all my appointments in MS Outlook. I had to click on the clock in the system tray and remove the daylight savings check to have my Outlook show my appointments correctly. BUT now my clock is off by an hour. Anyone know how to fix this?Open Outlook Calendar, go to Tools, Options, and click on the Calendar Options button. Click on the Time Zone button. Is the correct time zone shown? Is the box for "Adjust for daylight savings time" checked? What I see happening is a full day appointment is from 12am to 12am. if you change the time zone it moves the full day appointment to 1am to 1am the next day THUS when you look at your calenday in the monthly view it looks like you have a 2 day appointment. That is what I need to find a fix for!bnovacek...I just opened up Outlook and went to the calendar ...I created some hypothetical appointments ...... I set one at 11:30 pm on todays date ( with daylight saving turned off ) when I applied daylight savings ...that appointment as well as all the others was moved ahead by 1 hour....... so the 11:30 pm appointment on todays date was showing up as a 12:30 Am appointment tomorrow ....... It would appear thats the way Outlook HANDLES daylight saving ....... why dont you simply set your clock to the correct time and then EDIT your calendar ....and things will be correct . dl65 You are correct and that will work. But I deal with months of appointments and places. I don't want to have to go and adjust all my appointments every time daylight savings CHANGES (twice a year). Also try this. I have 3 hundred clients in my address book with their birhtdays and anniversayrs etc. Those are full day events. When the clock adjusts for daylight savings it moves them all to another day either 1 ahead or behind and now I am off on what day I need to get stuff out to those clients all because Outlook screws up with time. See my problem? Thanks for look and please if anyone has a fix I am anxious to know it.Quote I have 3 hundred clients in my address book with their birhtdays and anniversayrs etc. Those are full day events. When the clock adjusts for daylight savings it moves them all to another day either 1 ahead or behind and now I am off on what day I need to get stuff out to those clients all because Outlook screws up with time. See my problem? So, when you create these appointments, you check the box for "All day event". Is that correct? Hmmm, are you an event planner? Otherwise, I can't imagine why you would need to create these appointments in that manner. I haven't used this feature with Outlook, but I suspect that if you stop creating your appointments that way, then won't have this problem. Even you are an event planner, why would you need to create appointments in that manner? I mean, seriously, how can you schedule 300 or more "all day events" in a year? Do you literally spend the entire day with your clients on their birthdays and anniversaries? When do you sleep? And, if you business is not event planning, when do have time to get any business done if you're basically scheduling the whole year for birthdays and anniversaries? Does it really matter why or how I use my Outlook. No not all my events are all day but bdays of clients etc are. The issue is not how or why I use Outlook the issue is when the time changes twice a year it screws up the all day events. Look at it this way I have an appointment for 1pm for an hour on a day. go change your to daylight savings time and suddenly that 1 pm appointment is now at 2 pm. GUESS WHAT my appoointment is at 1pm NOT 2pm so why is Outlook changing it? Try it any appointmetn you have change the daylight savings and your appoint moved now your not at your 1 HOUR appointment on time. and all day events are now 2 day events. Here's a reference with some suggested workarounds for this: Outlook, Appointments and Time Zones. Unfortunately, I believe there is no IDEAL solution, which would be some setting in Outlook where the user could control how Outlook handles the change to Daylight Savings Time. |
