Hi guys this is a little embarassing to ask, Im in the chatroom trying to help this guy and he has an application that runs every 5 minutes or attempts to run but it doesn't so we were trying to figure out how to rid of it.

We tried scanning for spyware
1. Adaware
2. SPYBOT Search and Destroy
3. Spysweeper (weerbroot)

We try Virus scanning and its updated and did a scan

We also did a registry scan and clean some stuff but it still runs every 5 minutes.

We don;t know what the application is because it is not avalible in task manager.....

What else can we do to find out what is causing this PROBLEM?If all the scans came up clean then it's probably a legit program.
Try downloading 'Autoruns' from http://www.sysinternals.com and see if you can find it.
Do you know it's name?

Using with no problem and today I scanned a document and resized it in Paint and saved in Jpeg and e-mailed it. soybean! got down to details and 11 of 11 checked, clicked on paint and went back to the screen that says install/uninstall and a button for have disk. And states 10 of 11 componets SELECTED. Do not want to wipe out any except paint. Do not have a disk to reload except from scratch 7 years back. What is this going to do when I say apply?Oh, darn, I was thinking about Win XP when I explained the procedure. The screens in Win 98SE are different, as you would obviously know.

I just tested the procedure under Win 98SE and, yes, you would need a CD unless you have CAB files on your hard drive. By that, I mean you copied Win 98SE installation/setup files from the CD onto your hard drive. If you've done this, you would not need the CD since the procedure we're discussing would look to those CAB files for the needed program, not for the CD. But, I'd guess you, like most users, don't have those CAB files on your hard drive. So, again, you would need your CD. Sorry about not thinking to mention that in my previous reply.

And, regarding other programs under Accessories, no, they will not be wiped out as LONG as you do not uncheck the box next to them.

At least I would have some usage of it?? what do you think?Well, the references I've seen all discuss Paint95 in connection with Windows 95. I don't know whether it's OK to install with Win 98SE or not. Do you have any photo editing progams installed, such as SOFTWARE that came with a digital camera? Any photo editing program can be used to crop, resize, etc. If you don't have any, I suggest you download IrfanView. It's free for personal use and I've seen many favorable comments on it. Even for commercial users, they only ask $12 for it.

Another popular free program is Picassa, courtesy of Google. My primary browser is IE. I'm using Firefox as a secondary one and it has performed fine since I installed it, months ago,.... till today when, without any noticeable reason, whenever I copy something from any material (a newspaper page, for instance) displayed by Firefox and try to paste it in an Outlook message text or in a Word document, what I got pasted is the last material copied before entering Firefox. That is, nothing was copied from the newspaper page displayed by Firefox.

If I select the full URL from the Firefox URL's window and use the 'cut' command, the URL disappears, but when I try to paste it elsewhere I also got the last material copied before entering Firefox. The 'copy' command does not work within Firefox.

However, If I do the same using IE, it works perfectly.

I uninstalled Firefox, asked for complete deletion of related files, deleted the Program Files Mozilla folder manually, restarted my PC and installed a Firefox fresh copy,.. and got two surprises:
1) When I open Firefox I got same tabs than before (what happened with the 'delete all related files' command?);
2) The copy&paste problem is still the same.

Any ideas on how to solve that,... other than forget about Firefox?
After you uninstall,rebootandrun ccleaner, then reinstall (www.ccleaner.com but be sure to uncheck the "I want Yahoo Toolbar" box.)The lingering files sound to me like they are related to SessionSaver. Had you installed that extension?

I have heard of problems with the latest Firefox related to cut and paste. Presumably that will be fixed in a hurry.No, as far as I recall I didn't install SessionSaver.

Last night I installed Firefox 1.5.0.2 in a nother PC whose only browser is IE. The installation was fine but from the very beginning Firefox presented the same copy&paste problem. Even more, when I decided to shut off that PC I was asked to wait because some updating was TAKING place and the PC will shut off automatically awhen done. Well, I trusted that and went to bed.... to find this morning the PC in the same place and routine and left it last night. What was new in it? Firefox; nothing else.

I did a clean install of windows XP. It noted that some of the "My Documents" Folder might be lost. I didnt realize that when windows XP home finally got done installing, everything WOULD be GONE including all my programs. I figure my emails are somewhere on my hard drive? Have two users on network that can't view shared calendars except for the first 1-2 tried. The message "The calendar FOLDER could not be found" appears. These are shared calendars that have been accessed in the past and none on the LIST (past the first 1-2) can be viewed. I'm using Microsoft Excel 2000 and Win XP Pro.

On the file menu it gives me the option to send to and then mail recipient.
There is NO option to send to a mail recipient as attachment, how do I get this feature back?

I tried Excel help, but it just said it should be on the file menu under send to? But it's not there?

Any ideas?It doesn't answer your question but it may help.

1) Attach the file from within your email program.
2) FIND the file with windows explorer, right click and make your selection from there.
3) Make sure you click on the menu downward arrows to SHOW the full list of options. vv
4) Reinstall Excel.
Have tried all the above with still no option to send as attachment in Microsoft Excel??? Any other ideas?
I can send it VIA explorer but not in Excel?NeilP.....open excel...... then on the excel toolbar up top ......click on toolbar options ....then add/remove BUTTONS........then Reviewing ............ now make sure there is a checkmark in front of Mail Recipient ( as attachment )

Since you have the keys in reverse order, I'll start with the obvious: You are using Ctrl-C to copy and Ctrl-V to paste, right?

last week its still working properlyFirefox has only just been updated to 1.5.0.2. I wonder if it is a bug that was introduced with that update? I have a copy of previous FF version. Installed it and the copy&paste problem continues the same.

Needing ANOTHER browser with tabs I installed Opera just today and FOUND it really good so far.

As I said before, it is UNLIKELY, but possible. A power surge has never happened to me, but a power failure has. What a mess it was. While none of the hardware appeared to be damaged, the operating system was a total disaster. I LOST sound, graphics, and all windows settings were screwed up. Many files were corrupt as well. I had to reformat the hard drive and start fresh.

How can a power surge be possible? Well, have you ever noticed how the lights dim when the air conditioner turns on? What do you think happens when it turns off? There is a sudden increase in power flowing through the house. It lasts less than a second, but is noticeable. This is avoidable with a surge protector. Besides surges, static electricity can cause havoc on hardware when you are working on the inside of the COMPUTER. It is always wise to ground yourself before touching anything. When i open Outlook 2003 on my computer and start a new e-mail, the computer slows down a lot. The curser won't keep up with my typing and sometimes stops all together so i have to wait a few seconds to see what i have typed. When i open up the task manager>performance tab, it lists computer usage at 100%. The computer also doesn't return to normal until i close outlook. The computer usage doesn't go to 100% when i click on outlook, it goes to 100% when i'm in outlook and click on the button to compose new mail message.

Also, i'm not sure if this is relevant, but whenever i open outlook, a microsoft WORD window also opens (word doesn't open a file or new document, it's just a window with nothing in it), but i usually just close it when it opens. And i just TESTED that if i don't close the word window then the computer usage doesn't go to 100% when i compose a new message. I have Outlook 2003 configured for 4 different email accounts. My primary account is a university account but EVERY time I try to SEND an email from that account it sends from my Hotmail account instead. Is it possible to PROTECT outlook CONTACTS?

I know that you can protect .PST files with a password but when I open MS outllook and hit cancel when prompted for the password, I can still access all the contacts and email folders.

The outlook account is READING from an exchange SERVER but saving the emails and contacts locally. I have password protected the PST files but it still allows access to the data.

Any ideas??You are protected. SINCE you made the password, you have the ability to cancel. Other people shouldn't be able to do the same.

I have Excel 2002 and I am having trouble getting my columns to size to fit when printing. Eventhough in the SPREADSHEET it looks fine, when I click on preview or print, what I have entered into the cells overlap. How do I correct this problem? I know it has to do with the set-up.Unfortunately there isn't a satisfactory way of doing this (other than trial and error). The print preview should reasonably faithfully reproduce what will be printed, but it is not FOOLPROOF. The trouble is each printer has its own idea about how to lay out pages. Laser printers are the worst. And the print engine rarely communicates these thoughts back to Windows. So when you do "resize to fit" this really means "resize to fit for viewing onscreen", and doesn't RELATE to how THINGS will print.

For a quick way of getting things about right: make everything one point size bigger (font size) than you want it to be. Then resize to fit. Then reduce the font size by one, leaving the column sizes as they are.Well, Preview gives you an opportunity to set your margins for printing before you actually print. You can display margins by clicking on the Margins button, and then you can drag margins with your mouse in your Preview panel. Going to the Setup panel from Preview ALSO lets you change margins. And, keep in mind, Landscape may be a better choice and Portrait for some spreadsheets. Also note that once you've opened a Preview panel and closed it, Excel shows, in dashed lines, where the print margins fall. Those lines can also be helpful in adjusting your columns for printing.I think the OP was talking about column width though - you know, where an oversized number column for example will print '#######' instead of its real contents. I am trying to make a group policy for a OU in a domain. I have defined a TON of properties in the policy (no access to control panel, FORCED classic mode, etc...). But for some reason when i log in to the domain, none of these policies apply. I can access everything i disabled in group policy. Does this make sense? I am doing this through the Administrative template, mainly because i dont want to learn scripting right now. Any help would be great!!.i think my previous post SOUNDS a little too confusing. I am having trouble with Task Manager. I have tried CTRL-ALT-DEL, Start, Run Taskmgr. The computer tells me (Another program is currently using this FILE). What has led to this problem?I have virus software that scans weekly. No sign of any virus's or Trojans. Nothing led up to this problem that I am aware of, just tried opening Task manager recently and it didn't work. When I'm in EXCEL the cursor keeps moving all they way to colum a and in word it just randomly moves all the way to the left. It happens both when i'm not doing something or when i'm typing. All of a sudden half of the word will be where I want it and then I notice that i'm back at the begining of the line

I recently went from W98 to WinXP and lost all of my data and backups. I have located a group of Zip disks with what I think are one-step backup files. However I can't read these disks. I believe that some software came with the Zip drives for the one-step system. The Iomega company no longer supports this software, but I hope that someone out there has a copy that they would share with Me.

It gives file names like..."backup job 1, disk 9 66000 KB " - and IOAARCF.DBF" and "IOAARCF.CDX" . I hope someone can help?Even if you have the software, you might have problems trying to RECOVER the data on an XP machine. The original Iomega zip tools disk is formatted FAT16. Installing the software in XP could be problematic. Do you have a machine that is running 9x or can you make your machine dual boot with 9x?
Emailing the software could also present problems since the tools disk is 95.2 megs. There is a lot of stuff on it that you won't use but seperating the directories is probably not a good idea due to use of common files which the setup program will need to access.
You might want to check and see if you still have the tools disk. The insert for the disk will have "Tools" in the upper right corner.

For about a year now my computer has not been able to PLAY wmv and avi formatted video (maybe more, im not sure all i KNOW is that mpg and mpeg seem to be fine.). Anyway, when i play a wmv the screen where the video is supposed to play is just black , but i can STILL here the audio. When i play avi its very laggy and wherever there is light there is this green color. This has not only become inconvenient, it has ALSO started to INTERFERE with my school work. Ive tried time and time again downloading every media player there is over and over again:

QuickTime, and so on. if someone could help me i would GREATLY apreciate it.

I have a problem using Media Player's playing speed "enhancement" the only speed it WOULD let me choose is 1.0 ... same with all of the files. :-/

Users in our company have a shared spreadsheet that daily they create a new one for the DAY (9/10, 9/11, 9/12 etc.)

The first person to open the spreadsheet is fine. Any person who opens the spreadsheet after that has to unhide rows 61 and 62.

There aren't any macros or autofilters on this spreadsheet.

I tried to erase the OS off of my laptop and install MANDRAKE Linux on it. I used to have Windows 98, but now I don't have either. Everytime I boot my computer up, it comes up with the message that it cannot find an operating SYSTEM. If I can get into the BIOS, then I can solve this problem with ease, but I can't even do that. The second I hit that power button, it tells me that it can't find an operating system. Even if I have the Linux boot disk in the CD drive, it won't do anything. I just got this laptop from a friend and I would hate for it to go to waste. Please help me!

The second I hit that power button, it tells me that it can't find an operating system.

When I try to import a song into movie maker I get this message. [FILE cannot be Imported make SURE that it is a valid file type and that its contents have not been CORRUPTED]. I am using windows Me, the song was downloaded from walmarts, it has a wma. extension. I've tried burning it to a cd, then importing it from their., same message. I've also tried dragging it into the my COLLECTIONS folder., same message. When I do any of the above the message box appears, [it may TAKE some time for mavie maker to create clips depending on length of file], something like that? Then the file import message appears. I'm unable to make Safe Mode run.
(after stricking F8 key, choosing Safe Mode, then black screen with blinking cursor left upper corner).

I think this may be caused by a faulty MBR, because of a previous problem I had with bootable CDs, very similar to this one (they didn't boot anymore). It was fixed with FDISK / MBR (which caused a great mess in the drive letters but made the CDs boot again).
(This MBR problem was caused by multiboot utility I used [GAG])

MBR seems yet not completly correct, as this problem still remains: NO POSSIBLE SAFE MODE.

Maybe I'm mistaken, a faulty file outside the MBR is responsible of it ? A file called just after Safe Mode option is chosen ? Which one then ?

Has anyone an idea how i could CURE this ?

Yes the normal mode is OK, but it's simpler than that: no more problem now, I'm out of it !

We have a user here in our company who when responding to certain email messages (not all) the font on her autosignature will DECREASE a point in font size.

She is using Word as her email editor, she is set to HTML FORMAT. We have checked her fonts on replies etc.

Anyhelp is appreciated.I'm not sure, if this exactly addresses your problem, but i have noticed that in Outlook, autosignitures can't be an odd NUMBERED font size. For example, you can try to set it as font size eleven, but it it will end up either 10 or 12. But during the normal body of the REPLY, or can choose any font size, even or odd. So maybe your font is odd numbered and the signature is one below.

I have several imap mail ACCOUNTS. I just switched over to outlook 2003 from 2000. In 2000, when there was a new message it would notify me automatically and put a LITTLE icon in the bottom corner. Now, it does not notify me when there is a new message, but if I go to the inbox of that folder, the new message is there. Is there a way to MAKE outlook 2003 give me a notification when there is a new message EVEN if I am not currently looking at that folder?

As a result of overhauling virus and spyware protection on my computer, I found that the Microsoft Spyware programme installed had expired. I therefore uninstalled and downloaded the FREE version of the latest - Windows Defender (Beta 2) X64 - which turned out to be the wrong version. When I tried to install I got "This installation package is not supported by this processor type". I now know that I should have got X86 (I have now and it installed with no hitch). My problem is that when I tried to uninstall X64 I got the same "not supported by this processor type" message.
How do I uninstall? Or is it not worth bothering with?
It's not listed in Add or Remove PROGRAMMES but is in My Documents.

I have AMD Sempron 2800+ processor, Windows XP SP2, AVG and VARIOUS other newly acquired security stuff.

I'd try CCleaner. It's free - voluntary donations are encouraged - and has very positive reviews in Download.com. Did it install in the first place, if not then just delete the file.I've now deleted the desktop icon and the My Documents icon - sent to Recycle Bin - Then deleted them from there. That's cleared all trace as far as I can see, but does that mean the programme is wiped from my computer?

I have CCleaner so I'll run that again.

I have Windows XP Prof on my custom computer and I never put a Service Pack into it. Today I just got this nifty little mp3 player and I needed to INSTALL the software onto the computer. APPARENTLY I need Service Pack 1 or 2 in my computer to RUN it so I go to DL it off of a WEBSITE that I found it on (forgot it). So it finally finished DLing after an hour and a half and I run the .exe and at the end of it all it says something about how the Service KEY Number is no compatable. Is there anyway to get around this?If it is not a legitimate XP then the automatic downloads will not work, because it will not validate.

OK, I have 6 USB's (All chassis) 4 ath the back and two at the front (All powered port's).

When I plug in ANY device, power goes to device, and the device thinks its properly connected. But the PC is like 'What device?', It doesn't respond to the device at all.

I have checked in device manager and it just says 'This device is working properly' On all the ports.

Does anyone know what could be wrong and more to the point, any idea's on how to fix it?

So when you have connected USB to the computer it doesnt do anything or it doesnt show up in the C:/ ?
Or you have connected the USB but the computer crash ?

Does the computer prompt to you that the device was connected ?

I've tried using all the usual movie players to run them but it's always the same and always with the same sort of file. I'm guessing that the quality in the videos must be to high to run or something, but I don't really know much about these things.

My husband and I are the only ones set up with Outlook email. How can I get Outlook to download email from our server (Comcast) to both our email log ons? Not sure if this is clear. In other words, I log on and open outlook which then gets my emails. My husband logs on (under his own log on)and opens outlook but the email that I retrieved is not in his in box. Is there a way of making outlook place the emails in both our email in boxes?MarleneD.....I understand whats happening , Once whoever logs on first .....receives the Email .

For about a year now my computer has not been able to play wmv, mov and avi formatted VIDEO (maybe more, im not sure all i know is that mpg and MPEG seem to be fine.). Anyway, when i play a wmv and mov formats the screen where the video is supposed to play is just BLACK , but i can still here the audio. and just wmv sometimes a popup comes up with a black screen saying active movie window. When i play avi its very laggy and wherever there is light there is this green color. This has not only become inconvenient, it has also started to interfere with my school work. The problem I have is that when I am using IE6 I WRITE a web address in the address bar and then press GO or the enter key nothing happens. Also if I click on the dropdown menu on the address bar the system hangs and normally crashes.
This problem is not only an IE6 problem, when I use any office programme I try to save the document and I can not use the navigation drop down menu to save the document in the “save as” dialog box.

I have used system restore this solved the problem for about 3 days, but it has come back!!!!!

To add another twist to this is that I have a laptop that has the same problem, again I used the system restore to sort the problem, the laptop has not reverted back to the problem as yet.

The 2 computers are liked through a WIRELESS network. They both have AVG on them, with windows firewall, adaware SE & spybot

Did you run those SCANNERS to see if there was anything wrong?Yes all ran and all clear

Check to see if those programs are blocking anything to do with IE that you don't need, run a disk cleanup too.I have search the different forums and I think I have come up with the answer

My os is windows xp. I am using Lotus smartsuite 97 approach. When I import PICTURES jpg files they distort in colour, shape well everything really.

I shall be amazed if anyone KNOWS the answer to this, it appears nobody knows what smartsuite is.

You should use a program such as Photoshop if you want to keep image quality proper.Thanks for the advice. The pictures are top quality all but one on the digital camera. I am trying to create a database of the ITEMS I sell. getting in such a state here with items everywhere and no dbase.You could create a SPREADSHEET using Excel or a database using Microsoft Access. I do not know of any other programs.

You might also want to look into Irvanfiew which is an excellent freeware program to resize and convert many image files.What is it you actually want to do ? ?

I had a couple of nero disc images and in a STUPID attempt to be idiotic I renamed one of them to .exe instead of .nrg to see what would happen.

Now it's an exe I can't delete or rename is because apparently it's in use by ANOTHER person/program. When I clicked on the exe a box came up in command prompt and then suddenly disappeared.

I tried to copy the file in an effort to regain the .nrg but I couldn't rename that either so now they're both in use... This is totalling over 1 gig of my pc...

I restarted in safe mode hoping to be able to delete them to no avail as apparently they're still in use...

please help...Google for killbox.exe, I am yet to find something it can't delete.

I am USING outlook 2002 and when i click on the send/receive BUTTON my office assistant tells me "the operation failed" but doesn’t TELL me why. I am using it on my HOTMAIL accounts. If I click on the hotmail accounts in the outlook bar they open perfectly and will let me read the emails. it is just annoying that the program wont send and receive without me being here to click on the buttons. Can you help me? What might the problem be? Everything else in outlook works perfectly!



I am not use of the latest version of outlook, but is it the newest version?
