I am working on setting up a server at home and im not SURE what to PUT in the first 2 fields.

I am running Outlook 2000.
I would like to use the 'DO NOT DELIVER BEFORE' feature in the OPTIONS to PROGRAM a time that an email will be sent automatically in my absence.
When I create a new email MESSAGE, select OPTIONS and input a date & time, select SEND, the message goes to the OUTBOX...and there it stays.
It will not send, either automatically or manually.

The date & time I am using is the format presented when you open the option. I am SELECTING TODAY and inputting the time in the X:XXPM format.

What am I missing?It should be in the Outbox until that time comes around... It's not sending at the time you told it to? Is the time zone setting correct?

I know that Windows Firewall does not block outgoing traffic, but other than that, is there anything that makes it less secure than a commercial firewall (free or paid)?

If one's system is clean, then is there any reason to worry about outgoing traffic?

PKWell, it's just not a strong firewall. besides not monitoring outbound, the inbound is weak. It's easy to pass. I suggest downloading ZoneAlarm.

I have been using KERIO for a while now, but just RECENTLY installed it in basic mode (was in advanced mode for quite some time), which i think just blocks incoming, so I just got to thinking, if thats all I'm gonna do, then why bother?

I downloaded and installed McAfee Privacy SERVICE 4 days ago. When installation was complete it required a restart ~ which I did ~ unfortunately Windows never restarted. It comes up to my desktop but there is no taskbar and I cannot access anything. I have contacted Mcafee support several times ~ they seem to be useless, only telling me how to uninstall through Windows. I am able to access files through DOS, so I asked how to completely uninstall the files through DOS, and they said they would email me the instructions ~ they have not. Please help ~ I have been a bit LAZY in the past couple of months backing up files so I don't want to have to do a complete restore until I can at least back up my IMPORTANT files and photos. Any help would be wonderful.

You can CREATE an image using a program such as Norton Ghost

Since a laptop makes use of entirely different hardware than a desktop computer, Windows will become very confused and most likely either not REGISTER or not registry the hardware installed properly resulting in reduced PERFORMANCE or simply no performance at all.W2k RULES! You have to choose "Show hidden files and folders" under Folder Option in order to get to the folder.
Check out the template(s) in the folder, and if the template is what your husband has saved, then remove all the content and save it as a template (Save as type: ) with the name "Normal" and replace the one EXISTING. Thank you for helping me. I thought it was something to do with the template. I was able to fix it by going into normal.dot. I don't understand it, but it is okay now.It is Word. But I think it is fixed now.If the Normal.dot template is ever corrupted, just close Word, unhide hidden files and folders and delete it.

When you open Word again it will build you a NEW Normal.dot template.

Note: If you ever uninstall Word you may have to delete the normal.dot template by the same method, as it often stays on the hard-drive.You learn something new every day whether you want to or not. I will save the normal.dot help in my troubleshooting file. Thank you.

I am having a problem with the settings in the Screen Saver, and Power Settings not "TAKING" in Win XP Home. I work on computers all the time and NEVER came across this situation before.

The computer in question is an 'E' Machine, w/1024 meg. memory, Windows XP Home edition, w/SP-2 installed, and all the latest Critical Updates from Microsoft.

When I try to set up a Screen Saver, I can select any image I want, but when I click on "Preview", the whoe DeskTop will just blink. I can select any time I want for activation, when the allotted time rolls around, nothing happens.

The same with the "Power" settings, Ie. setting the monitor to shut down after 5 minutes does nothing. The monitor stays on.

One thing I did notice is the usual selections for Power Options, Ie., Home/Office Desk, Portable/LapTop, were missing. Presentation, Always On, Minimal Power MANAGEMENT, and Max Battery were the only selection available.

The computer is not on the 'net as yet, so I don't think some worm or Trojan has INFECTED it, I t also has Norton AntiVirus installed, and yes, I did do a complete scan of the system.

ANY Ideas???

My computer lags horribly when I try loading SOMETHING with a decent amount of graphics. The mouse will move extremely slow and the computer will just... stop mostly. It does this both when and when im not connected to the interent. I have tried defragmenting my computer, clearing it, there is very little programs on it. When I am connected to the internet (dial-up) and it starts lagging like this, say im playing a game or just trying to load something it lags very bad and disconnects me from the internet. I dont believe its my interent connection because i have tried many different dial-up companies and same problem, ALSO it happens on normal games when im not connected. Any and all suggestions will be appreciated, please help.

Ok, I have a little puzzle here. I'm fixing up a dell (4400) computer and its been pretty much crushed under a trojen/spyware attack, I could MAYBE fix it with some PROGRAMS but at this point it WOULD just be easyer to wipe the HDD and start fresh (they don't realy have any data to lose because they only recently recovered from something similar from what I understand. Dont you just hate it when that happens?)

The problem? Well LIKE any big company dell didn't ship their unit with a REAL windows XP home disk, just a "restore" cd .

HOWEVER there is a windows XP home code on the side of their case and I have a REAL windows xp home CD from one of my other computers, so my question is, when windows asks for verification of XP, does it go by the disk that was used to install it, or the code I type in? Can I use the CODE from their case with my CD?

I know Microsoft recently had some sort of anti-piracy content thing distributed with their windows updates, basically im just trying to avoid a licensing fiasco and get XP home installed from a REAL disk. Is this possible to do with my disk with their code?

Well after spending hours working on a document, saving regularly, while it was OPEN something went very, very wrong (no viruses according to Sophos or F-secure). After two pages, SUDDENLY all my lovely text turns into square boxes (or not defined characters??) This is in Times New Roman and whatever font I change it to, it stays that way. Tried OPENING in WordPad or Notepad but no joy, also tried WORD's recovery options......
Any ideas? I can't help feeling the text is somewhere under all those square boxes. Really don't want to have to type all that in again (can't remember it for a start). Please help!

Sometimes font errors will self-correct after a reboot. Have you tried that?thanks but no as I said wordpad and notepad are no good. It is most LIKELY accompanied by Spyware or recognized as Spyware. (Quickbooks, that is.)

Your Outlook data is normally stored in a folder hidden under C:\Documents and Settings\Your Username\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook. You'll need to enable viewing hidden files and folders. Check the MODIFIED times on the files in that folder just to CONFIRM that's where your current Outlook data is. Copy the lot.thanks for the help. i tried to find the application data via your suggestion but was unsuccessful. so, i did something that seemed OBVIOUS and it worked. i simply made a new file on my desktop, then opened outlook, USED keyboard shortcut to select all, then "copy" and finally pasted. worked like a charm and i have what i now believe will work assuming i'll be able to dump it back into outlook on a new hard drive.

Are you using XP? Is your profile under C:\Documents and Settings? If so, do this: In Windows Explorer: Tools-->Folder Options-->View. Ensure that "Show hidden files and folders" is checked. You will then find, under your user name, the folder I referred to above.

Ok Raptor and Merlin...I've never seen this before. When double clicking on an EMAIL folder that is in Outlook 2003, to open an email...the program closes abruptly and the DESKTOP SCREEN opens. The desktop screen is always loaded.

I find if i WATCH a Movie on my computer that the levels are COMPLETELY MESSED. When music comes on or a loud bit it overwhelms the talking and you cant hear what is being said.

This happens with AVIs on my computer and MPEGS and DVDS

The same think Happens with Music MP3s.

I need Java for my fantasy football draft...however, everytime I try and install it, I get this message:

I don't know what would have caused the illegal operation. Judging by the name of the dll, it would appear to be a media library ERROR. You might want to check out the TECH support forum at winamp.com for more on this error. As for where the files are stored, just check the setting in the preferences. Once there, go to 'CD Ripping', then 'Output file settings'.

cokeskieNever come across that one before but.... this may be a warning to you that your magic box has been interfered with. Dell fits a thingy on some of its pc's with a micro switch which closes/opens if a panel is removed and this could be the resultant message after an intrusion

I am using windows xp OS and have a 1600+ AMD processor. I had open my case several times just to clean it and free it from dust and I'm sure the cover is place properly. This error only COMES very recently. I haven't alter any info in the BIOS. Later on I'll check the status you've mention in the BIOS. By the way I've reformat it but the error still exist.

Looks like you have to check & recheck your case panels and reset in bios to get rid of this. Do you have an event log for the intrusion maybe giving date & time? Formatting your hard disk will NOT get rid of the warning message, the warning is coming from bios which you must reset to get rid of the message.

What box are you using - Dell or and what pc???What do I reset specifically on the BIOS?

In order to access all my old files on my new computer, I had the old hard DRIVE installed on the new MACHINE. This works great for everthing except accessing my old .PST files as EMAILS, etc exist in one pst FILE, not separate files within folders.
Can anyone explain how I can access .pst files that exist on a drive other than the C drive?

I have an Epson Perfection 1640SU Scanner which came with a really easy to use stand-alone program to scan with. SOMEPLACE along the line I lost the CD that came with it and I have been unable to find this program online. It was an Epson program that allowed me to CHOSE B&W or color, or use the scanner as a copy machine and lots of other choices. Does anyone know where I can find this program?

YES, I did contact Epson support, I can buy the CD of software but I thought I'd see if it was online anyplace first. I did find it about two years ago for another computer but cannot find it now.
I have no IDEA what the name was but PaperPort does not sound familiar.

out of nowhere about a MONTH ago a box that says "windows-no disk, there is no disk in the drive. please insert a disk into drive." appered. every thing seems to still be runing ALRIGHT with my computer, just a little slow, some times i FREEZE and i am unable to burn anything. this box will not go away no matter how many times i close it. i really don't know much about computers if any one has experienced this or can tell me what is wrong i would be very thankful.Is you computer free of viruses & spyware?

I have my signature as a BMP file and i want to insert it as text into the body of the email. This is required for all my banking transactions where a signature is needed on the email itself and on the body of the email as opposed to being an attached file.

Every time i go to do it the body of the email says "signature.bmp" which is offcourse the filename but it doesn't mean ANYTHING. I can offcourse attach it as BMP file but then it is a separate attachment as a signature only. The banks will not accept this.

i tried to do it under the signature PROVISION but it STATES that i am unable to do it because i don't have "ActiveX" settings activated in outlook 2003

I don't know whether it will WORK anyhow because the signature block is a BMP file and it COULD very well go into the body of the email when settings are changed just simply as signature.bmp and no signature being the actual signature in the body of the email

i was able to do this with Outlook 2000 easily but not with Outlook 2003!!!

I have Dell DIMENSION desk TOP at home (nearly 5 years old). I've been having periodic problems with it over the past year or so. FINALLY the other day major problem. I download Mcafee security products through Comcast. When I rebooted the computer - poof not working. The scan disk box comes up and after a few seconds the computer just freezes - nothing - can not get into windows at all. Mcafee support tried removing the Mcafee program through dos - did not help.

All I want to do now is start over - wipe out the hard drive and reinstall everything. I have no idea how to do it. Dell will not tell me how to do it unless I pay them $200 and Comcast and Mcafee wash their hands and say sorry.

I have the Microsoft ME reinstall disk and other reinstall DISKS. Any help would be appreciated. See the following article:

How to erase my Hard Disk Drive and start overI can suggest another way, probably it's not what you need. But I have many friends, and I would put this HDD to another PC as slave and format it. After that make fresh install OS on your PC.

I am having some trouble getting powerpoint to play music i have selected when loaded onto a CD and PLAYED in another computer. I have completed a slide show with pictures and music and for some reason when i burnt it onto a disk and played it in another computer the music would not work but the pictures and slides were fine. I placed the music via the insert tab, then music and selected the file from the music downloaded on my computer. Is this the correct way?? I have only used the PROGRAM a few times. When i play the saved item from my computer it works fine. The music files are mp3's.
Any Suggestions?

Thanks You need the music file to be in the same place as the powerpoint file. You can't tell it to run the music off of a CD, becuase it's not going to work. Just save the music file in the same place on the HARD disk as the powerpoint file is on, and insert the music from there.

FlameDo the other computers have the support to play mp3s?

I also load the "ANIMATION file" ie music or video separately (as FLAME has suggested) onto the same disc as the presentation.As long as they have a media player (probably Windows Media Player) then I don't see how there could be a problem.

Wasn't sure if this was the right forum for this or not.....I just recently started getting junk email from random senders, all about stocks and all in the same type format. I tried to use mail rules to stop them (using keywords in message body), but they keep coming through. I find that the message body of the junk email is a picture, rather than TYPED (which is probably why the message rules are not stopping them). It says the "picture source" is:

mhtml:mid://00000016/!cid:[emailprotected]

(I have searched Google and other engines using this string, but nothing came up)

Does anyone have any ideas on how I can stop/reduce the number of these emails?

Thanks.I also use OE for email. You really can't do much to control this within OE. In my opinion, the best thing to do is check to see whether your ISP has some spam filtering feature that will allow you to block the spam before it ever gets downloaded to your COMPUTER. My ISP is Earthlink. They have a spamBlocker feature that allows me to choose among three levels of filtering strength. I've got mine set at the highest level, and I simply do not get unsolicited mail downloaded to OE.

Many smaller ISP's also now offer email filtering features. My mother uses an ISP whose entire market area overlaps about 8 counties in Ohio. But, they also have spam blocking tools that can be activated by logging onto WebMail via their website. Mom did not understand it at first. I helped her get familiar with it, and now she likes the way it works.

I used Earthlink for over a year before I became aware of their spamBlocker. Now, besides using the spamBlocker to stop a bunch of junk mail being downloaded to my computer, I also know that I can check my mail from any computer anywhere. Thanks soybean....I don't think my ISP has that.

I ran "194.176.170.12" through WHOIS and it came back as belonging to ripe.net, out of Amsterdam. I added the ripe.net domain to my blocked addresses, so maybe that will help.

Is ripe.net a free ISP? I looked at their site and I don't see anything indicating a spam filtering feature. So, apparently they do not have it. You might get an email account such as GoDaddy.com email account. That would PROVIDE you the kind of spam blocking I have with Earthlink. It's not free but it's not very expensive. The time saved by not having to scan through junk mail could make it very worthwhile.
