I have just set up WinFax PRO 10.3 to WORK in CONJUNCTION with ACT! 2006 (which requires a link of FaxAdmin), and I have recieved faxes, but am unable to SEND them.
At first it will say that it is "connecting" (send status) then it says "No CARRIER".
Help please, how do I get it to carry??

hello, is there anyway to putpictures on a dvd that i put on my hrd drive. i took VACATION pics from my digital camera and downloaded them to computer and then deleted off of camera. when i put them back onto sd card in camera i wasn't able to view them and i want to show family asa slide show on tv? any IDEAS? thanks:-/For some reason which I don't know either, when you drag a photo back onto your piture card they won't show up on your camera. Regarding burning photos to CD, what software are you using? I have Nero Express 6.6. It has a specific menu item for videos/pictures. I don't know whether this indicates creating a Data disc would not work for photos, but that may be the case.

well it was WORKING fine then i got a big virus and reloaded my computer after installing it, its never been the same and my whole computer slows down when i burn dvd on nero . CD BURNING id fine 10 mins max to burn a full CD and copying DVD is fine also

What SPEED is your DVD recording drive? How much RAM does it have? Are you trying to illegally copy DVDs?how do i know the speed ?? and i am burning files from werez and morphusThose files are LARGE especially if you have a small HARD drive. It all takes up space, and the computer has to work harder to burn/ect. Before you burn a file, I would make sure your computer has been shut down, and you are doing nothing else.

As for the speed, just go to my computer and right click on where it lists your DVD-R/RW drive and rick-click and go to properties and see if it tells you....

???I've tried SEVERAL times to use the backup program which comes with XP and I'm not sure what I'm getting.
Are there any tricks in using this program so I know that my files are really being written to my backup MEDIA? One "EXPERT" said to backup to a folder on the desktop and then copy to the CD, and, I suppose, delete the folder.

I really don't need a lot backed up since I have all my install discs in case of a crash. I suppose Documents & Settings plus email files, and favorites (bookmarks) would be sufficient.

Or can anyone recommend a backup/restore program which is easy to use with clear instructions for an intermediate user? I tried the test version of Argentum, which was touted by a leading PC magazine, but it didn't seem to provide all the features advertised.

Every time I TRY to install SouthWest Airlines "DING" program I get this ERROR..."unrecoverable Error:Unable to load "Ding" configuration files.

Since a few days ago, I am the owner of a new DELL Axim X51V.
I am experiencing great difficulties in making ACTIVESYNC detect my device.

My system spec:
Win XP Pro SP2
2GHz processor, 768MB RAM
ZoneAlarm Pro
Norton Antivirus 2003
ActiveSync 4.1
Dell Axim X51V, WM5

My PROBLEM:
- I can't sync my device
- If the device in turned on in the cradle, and I reboot my desktop computer, then windows comes up, and ActiveSync is stuck on "connecting"
- If I take my Axim out of the cradle, and put it back in, my device is not DETECTED. (a new "local area connection" comes up with an error of "limited or no connectivity"

What I've tried:
- ActiveSync Uninstall and reinstall , including 4.2 Beta
-openning all the ports in my firewall, and granting full access to the 4 apps that are related to ActiveSync
- uninstalling my Firewall - still no ability to sync
- everything ELSE that was thrown at me at several forums.


I'd appreciate any ideas you may have that might solve my problem.

Running MS XP(Pro), SP2 with Outlook 2000.

Normally Outlook RUNS quite happily. However, sometimes, when I come out of Outlook to do other things then startup Outlook - nothing happens.

Egg timer appears then disappears. No errors - nothing.

So I then CTRL+ALT+DEL to then end any tasks to restart.

When Windows starting to shutdown a message boxs appears saying that OUTLOOK.EXE is running.

Any suggestions?

Am also running Mailwasher Pro - but problem existed before then.

Hi guys. I am trying to back up the BIOS of asus a8n 32-sli deluxe w/ath.fx60 cpu. My created floppy along with added afudos.exe file reads my current BIOS up to @84% then goes into error with"cannot write to disk" The floppy is NOT write protected. What did I do?Is the floppy empty and formatted? Is it a high density floppy (denoted by the HD SYMBOL on one corner and by having two square holes - one for write-protect, one to indicate the higher 1.44MB capacity)? Do you have another floppy you can try?check also your floppy driveHi. The floppy I am trying to use are double sided, double density. I formatted and created boot disk and copied afudos file from MB support disk as per asus user manual. When its LOADED into drive, it gives the prompt "A:\>". I then type in command "afudos /oOLDBIOS1.rom" and .Machine then proceeds to read BIOS (up to 74%) and then REPORTS error : cannot write to disk.Double sided disks only hold 720K. High density hold 1.44 meg.(In other words, you probably need a double-side high density disk - it appears that you are running out of space on the disk. The higher capacity disk will be fine. SEE my message above re how to identify such a disk.)disk is 1.44MB/2HD. I wonder if I simply format another disk and put it in while the machine is reading would it copy to it? Well, the ANSWER is a resounding YES!!! What I ended up doing was to boot the machine with the ms/dos disk which I created and at the A:\ > prompt , I typed in the command and put a quick formatted disk to which was added the unzipped file (afudos.exe) which I got from the ASUS cite. The machine read and copied the BIOS to that second disk. Problem solved. Thanks again guys!

A few weeks ago I installed CCleaner and I run it regularly and all seems well.

My query is - when "Analysis Complete, x number of MB to be removed, Run CLEANER, Cleaning Complete" has been registered, if I then click "Analyze" again, another, apparently different, list appears and can be cleaned and the process can be repeated again.

I stop and close the programme after a couple of repeats of this - I just wonder what is best to do - there seems to be no indication that the cleaning is complete.

The Windows cleaning tells you immediately after executing the cleanup that "CLEANING COMPLETE", and tells you how much disk space was freed up. As I recall, Applications cleanup does the same.

In the Issues screen, you first scan, then click the button for Fix selected issues. An immediate subsequent scan may yield more items, but the number will usually be small compared to the first scan. If you keep repeating the Issues scan and it reports additional items found and the same items reappear, then you have a valid question to raise about why subsequent/repeated scans continue to identify items for removal.silkie........ We had a thread about this some time AGO & if I remember correctly 2-3 minutes to boot was about average.
PS, don't have 2 AV programs running at the same time.Mine takes ages too man and i have a Gig of RAM and a 2.6Ghz Processor.

I just got a nice new computer and it seems that whenever i run a game such a Guild Wars or Day of Defeat, after an hour or so, the game/ computer freezes. I assume there are some compatibility issues.

Just for some basic specs:
AMD 64 FX 55 2.6 ghz
Nividia Geforce 7800 GTX (2, SLI)
2 GB DDRAM

It's built by ABS. I know the hardware is defintely strong enough to handle those games but the frequent freezing is alarming. Anyone know what to do? I've got a little PROBLEM... Me and a friend of mine are making a site for our class. We're TRYING to make a forum with it, so I downloaded a program. But I can't install it because the file which you can install it with is a php-file, so when I try to open it, my computer says it can't open the file because it has to know with which program it was made... And then you can LOOK it up on the internet or choose a program yourself. But that internet page doesn't work at my computer. And I don't know what a php-file is so I don't know which program I have to use with it. And that's also my question actually: Which programs do you need to open php-files??
Or otherwise: Does anyone know another site or program which you can make forums with??

Can you log use Remote DESKTOP?i can use remote desktop, i can use vnc however what i want to do is scan the pc first to see who is logged onto that pc i know i can do this with languard however im after a freeware utility, so im wondering if anyone out there has heard of one. Besides remote connections are disabled unless im using VNC but when i get a call (EMAIL) from a client i dont want to be vnc'ing into the wrong machine and i dont want to install a dodgy version of languard on this domain

I'm having some problems when I want to WATCH videos through Windows media player online (i've tried IE, FF, Opera). When I go to some online VIEWING site, www.maniatv.com for example, I only see a black box instead of the video. All I receive are some short messages at the statusbar saying:

Connecting to media
Attempting to reconnect
Stopped

I have a router and I'm not sure if I have to open some port to get this working?Do you have a firewall installed? Which version of WMP are you USING? Which operating system are you using? Did this work on this computer before?

FlameThere's a firewall in the router. I'm using WMP 10. I'm using Win XP SP2. I THINK that this might have worked before the router was installed.I'm watching it right now, WinXP SP2, connected to my D-Link DI-524 router. And, no doubt, thousands of others using a router can view it.

Does the rest of that web page display OK on your computer? When you installed your router, did you set certain SETTINGS for it via the admin panel?

I wonder if an item in your Hosts file could be blocking the streaming media portion of that website.

I have an old computer upstairs in the children's room running Windows 98 and a newer one downstairs running XP. We need a newer version of Windows upstairs in order to RUN certain software. Is it possible to simply use the discs from the new computer to LOAD Windows 98 upstairs?I would advise against it. The computer is most likely far too outdated to be able to run Windows XP. What are its specifications?

I gave my XP disc from Dell to my friend, and he (i guess) made a copy of it....which didn't make me too happy...

I have created an image of my hard drive using DriveImage from PowerQuest.
The thing is that my laptop has no floppy disk drive.
What happens if one day I need to RECOVER my HD image without beying able 2 acceed windows and with no floppy disk driver .
Is it possble to creat a boot cd that allows me to acceed to DriveImage interface?

José Neto-PortugalWell FRIEND....I use Norton Ghost. In this case I just boot my PC from Windows98 bootable CD with CD ROM support and insert the Norton Ghost CD. And I run the program under MS DOS and use my hard disk image to restore my data. Sory I didn't use your's software to CREATE image.

Could it be that these videos have a license attached to them that causes Windows to block them from being used with a projector?

I am certain Microsoft would be doing something that daft.

I recently started having problems with Nero StartSmart. I used it just a few days ago to transfer some date files to DVD and it worked fine.
Later, and for the FIRST time, I used ULeads MyDVD to produce a playable dvd of film clips. This program produces dvd's that have clickable icons for each film clip etc. etc. and can be played on virtually all dvd drives.
Since then, when I open Nero and select Data I get the usual compatibility notice and when I click that it closes and Nero re-opens with the same screen again, instead of the "drag and drop" menu screen for adding files.
Did I explain that clearly? I've been struggling with the thing for HOURS and my head is a bit fraggled! What I mean is that Nero is going round and round, the main screen first, compatibility notice next, main screen again.

I have Nero (I think version 6) on CD, so used it to re-install in case of a lost DLL. etc. Nero is now called Nero StartSmart - but it still won't start! [smiley=cry.gif]

What if you just uninstall, reboot and reinstall the Nero software?I tried that GX1_Man, and also tried using Nero to burn a CD rather than a DVD. It just repeats in the same way.

I also downloaded a PROG today called CDBurnerXP from MajorGeeks (freeware) but that reported an error too when I clicked 'Burn'. The gist of the error message is -
Error 339
Description: Component 'cyoPrBr1.ocx' or one of its dependencies not correctly registered: a FILE is missing or invalid.
End of error message.

Sounds like a different error, I'm now wondering if there could be something wrong in the DVD rom settings! Or anything!

But then I found I could burn fine with "Sonic Record Now". In fact it's easier to use than Nero so I'll stick with it!

OS: Windows XP Home.

I'm running a online poker program (SOUTH African site) but if anyone is familiar with Poker software it's based on the Prima Poker NETWORK software.

The software has an option to export PREVIOUS hand histories and I use this function every day. Suddenly I get the following error message when trying to do the export:

Application Error: The instruction at "0x00c91073" REFERENCED memory at "0x00ca3594". The memory could not be "read". Click on OK to terminate the program.

I emailed the poker support they said it's not a problem on their side and they I should ask a computer technician to look into the problem.

I have not INSTALLED or removed any software or made any changes to hardware or any settings before this happened.

I would appreciate any advice on what this error message means and what I can do to solve it.

Ok so the window POPS up every now and again telling me that my subscription is up and that I need to renew. When I proceed to renew it asks for my subscription key. However when I type in the subcription key that came with the softwware it says "the number you have entered is not a valid subscription key, please check the number and try again" Shoul I just uninstall norton and re install it or what? They will issue you a new key to enter, and all will be fixed. The key on the back of your CD is for installation purposes only.

FlameI don't agree that you have to call Symantec/Norton to renew. I've renewed my subscription to Norton online, without calling them. So, I know it can be done. And, I believe that's the way it was designed to work.

I had no idea I'd have to re purchase the product. That seems ridiculous, however if that's the only way to fix the problem then I will probably do so.

that was already unchecked so i'm not sure what it is now.
i've noticed it 90% of the time when it happens it's when i'm using my gmail account.

well the cut and paste works now so thats good but i'm still having the problem with the apostrophe or a forward slash.

I was WONDERING if anyone knows if it is possible to play the same music FILE on two networked computers at the same time using Windows Media Player 10. I have an external hard drive plugged into my laptop which communicates wirelessly through a router to my desktop. The external hard drive contains all of my music. I usually play the music through WMP10 on my laptop. Is it possible to listen to what is playing on my laptop also on my desktop? I WOULD APPRECIATE anyone's expertise. Thanks a million

I do know however that it is possible with the correct software to broadcast music over your LAN. So that answers half your question. This is a two part question. I just learned of the Journal feature in Outlook 2002. My first question is:

1. Is there a way to have Outlook scan all my past e-mails and insert them into the Journal retroactively? I know that you can view all e-mails associated with a certain CONTACT USING the Activity tab in the Contact window; so, since Outlook can automatically pull up every email, Journal entry, Notes, and Contact Appointments associated with that contact, can it be taken one step further? Can the Journal somehow import all of those emails that show up in the Activity tab and, using the Time/Date STAMP info, add each of them to the Journal retroactively according to that Time/Date information?

My second question is:

2. I have notcied that I have to turn off my e-mail filters in ORDER for Journal to add an entry for that contact. For example, I have my filters set to MOVE any email from Bob directly to "Bob's Folder." The Journal doesn't see the email, however, unless I turn that filter off and let the e-mail come into the general Inbox. Is there a workaround or patch for this?

Is there any WAY to convert a realplayer file into an AVI so I can WATCH it without an internet connection?

I've had a little play with outlook express and found that there is an option that allows you to autoreply to any e-mail's just as long as either the COMPUTER is always on and checking for e-mail's periodically or you have someone turn on your computer then send and RECEIVE all your e-mail's every morning.

I will use this option even though there are some minor bugs to this solution.

My OUTLOOK Express email is jammed-up. This happened while I was sending an email with photos. Probably too big of file. Now I cannot access my email or get into my other folders. I'm trying to upgrade to Mcafee ver 9 on my Windows XP Pro. I continue to get the message that there is a previous version 4.5.1 that needs to be removed prior to installation. I have been thru the entire C drive, been as far as I know to GO in the registry, and still get the same message. Am the moment I am trying to create a project in FLASH 8 Professional. The problem is everytime I publish it, it takes forever. At first it took 4 hours to publish into a swf file, then 9 hours and finally it doesn't want to publish at all.

Im not sure what are the reasons why it happening. The file size is 16.9 MB and i have a lot of picture and graphic images in my flash piece (360 images). I have reduced the size of each and every images so that it is really small and changed the resolution of each image into 72 dpi in Photoshop. And it has reduced the file size down quite a bit.

There is no sound in my piece. There are areas in my piece which slowed down when i played it in flash and then ran normally at 25fps and the areas that ran slow i tried to find what made it slow and got rid of images that made that happen. And now it runs nice and fast in flash. However thinking that it would be all right now, am still having the same problem it wont publish. Even if I put it on a new computer to publish it takes ages.

I mean I got this file to publish at 9.30am and its 12.17pm and still hasn't moved MUCH in bar wise. Only can see 3 bars.

Take another look at what you're doing with the graphics. Vector graphics will produce much better files sizes with Flash. Don't insert dozens of bitmap graphics if you can help it.I do have a lot of bitmap files and I turned them into a graphic symbol. However I realised that if I delete the bitmap image, them the graphic symbol that I turned them into contains no image.

Is it the bitmap images that is causing the problem?

I have about 300 something mixed bitmap and graphic symbol images in my library content.Unless each of those 300 bitmaps is 10 pixels square, then you can be sure it's the bitmaps that are BLOATING your project.

When I read a message in the Inbox, it is no longer in the inbox when I close the message. It just started doing this, what is the PROCESS to stop deleting the messages after I have read them so they stay in the inbox as read? Here you go, Rap. Works pretty well, but has the annoying feature that it will only clean 10 registry errors at a time, so you have to initially run it several times. That said, it's the best freeware reg utility I have yet seen - the others are time limited, or will only clean errors in certain categories.Now that you mention it, the only fixing 10 registry entries at a time does sound familiar. I believe I allready tried this tool and preferred the utilities I linked to above, since those are 100% freeware.

Push all the buttons. I used, I believe it was Easy Cleaner, on a Windows 98 computer a few hours ago and removed at least 1.570 unneccessary files. I have never seen a garbage bin with over 1500 files before.

Let me start by saying that I am not very computer literate. I did browse through some older posts here (back to 01/06) but couldn't find anything that specifically addresses my issue. So here goes:

I am using MS Outlook (2000) to manage my contact list for my BUSINESS. I am having trouble sending group e-mails (to just over 200 names) through Outlook...the mail shows up in my "sent" folder but never gets delivered to my inbox (I address it to myself and BCC the customers), and I have done TESTS with a couple of customers and it is not getting delivered to them either.

After each group mail, I get a message from MacAfee that says something like, "Potential Worm Activity!" and gives me three options...the first two (as I recall) would be to stop sending, and the last one (which is what I click on) says something like, "continue what I was doing".

The last time I was able to send, I had about 185 names...a couple of months ago. I had no trouble with e-mails getting out, but now I am really stuck since right now I can only contact the customers who opted for snail mail notices, unless I spend time making smaller distribution lists.

I'd welcome any thoughts from this seasoned group. Am I at the point where I need to LEAVE Outlook behind for a "real" contact managment program? IMO 200 names isn't very many, but maybe it's *too* many for what I'm trying to do? Any suggestions to fix the issue with Outlook?

BPMost ISPs block any email that is addressed to more than 10 individual recipients. If you wish to send bulk emails, you should set up a mailing list for this purpose. EIther set up your own mailing list server (e.g. Mailman or Majordomo), or check if your ISP offers mailing lists.Hi Rob,

I guess I've just been fortunate to not have my group mails blocked in the PAST...weird. My web tech support offers a mailing list setup, which I guess I'll try out. As I mentioned, I'm less than "ept" with computers. Your response mirrors a couple of others I've gotten, so I guess it's time to move away from Outlook.

No - you'd still use Outlook to send the email to the mailing list. Just instead of lots of individual addresses, you'd mail to (e.g.) [emailprotected], then the mailing list server does the rest.Oh! So would the e-mail still look like it's coming from me (i.e. [emailprotected])? Or would it have the address of the server?The email would still have your address on it, yes. The mailing list basically takes over the WORK of sending out the email to multiple recipients; the recipients will recieve a normal-looking email (although mailing list software may add some footer to indicate that the message is via a mailing list).

I have Windows XP and when I try to install a program (via CD), it won't automatically run. I go to Start/Run and find the application, I get the msg:

The system file is not suitable for running MS-DOS and Microsoft Windows applications. Chose "Close" to terminate the application.

(what does this mean??? what can I do about it?)To fix run the FOLLOWING from the command prompt:

COPY c:\windows\repair\autoexec.nt c:\windows\system32

After you copy the file, find it in Windows Explorer, click properties and lock it down by GIVING it a read-only attribute.

I am running win xp pro sp2 (all current updates)

Symantec corp 10.1 antivirus. Everytime I shutdown/restart the computer it will flash and "end program" screen for a milisecond and say missing virus DEFINITIONS (i had to use my digital camera to capture it cause it was SO fast).

What could be causing this. I have deinstalled norton and obviously it no longer does this.. I also manually removed norton and still the error persists.

All the drivers are current. I was having troubles with the firewall till I fixed it. Also the comptuer is overclocked to 2.7ghz instead of the standard 2.0 .. i thought this may have been the problem BUT my other computer works fine overclocked with norton and removing the overclock has NO effect on the situation whatsoever. There are no clear system events to see what the problem is. The virus defense seems to be working.. i used tests sites and it caught the virus problems and spyware. I know it is norton but I am not really wanting to dump the program since FINDING a decent, low resource, antiV program is hard to do.fedge......
