Hi guys when trying to install office 2003 a file is corrupt namley ZD561402.cab this has various file INSIDE which i am in need of very much. as i do not WISH to buy another COPY could somebody please e-mail me the cab file or tell me where i can get them from it would be very much appreciated.

Hi, i am new member in this forum, and i need your help to know what is the REASON for this case:-
1- I had free space in hard (c) almost (1.5 GB) so i want to increase this free space so i did UNINSTALL for two programs (one of them is 333 MB and other is 600 MB) but the fress space in C: decrease to (1.3GB) instead of inecrement.
2- In the same time, the performance of computer is slow down, especially when i open internet explorer 7.0 (it open so slow, and some times the internet explorer dont response).
3- I have already Kaspersky AntiVirus 6.0 and i update it every day, i have firwall also, and Ad-Aware program.
I don't know if the reason of this case is virus or something else.. is Kaspersky is good enough?
i have laptop with 2.6 GHz CPU and 512 MB of RAMDo you ever run any disk cleanup tools? You could start by RUNNING Windows Disk Cleanup and see where your free space stands after that. This may also improve the performance of Internet Explorer. You might benefit further by downloading CCleaner and USING it to clean your system. So, do some disk cleanup and then LET us know how things are going.

get Spybot to clean up anything Ad-Aware might have left behind.

CCleaner won't REMOVE any history from Mozilla firefox, I have it ticked to delete the files in the CCleaner options but still NOTHING is removed. It still works on INTERENT explorer though.1) Did it EVER work? (if yes, go to 2, below. If no, SKIP to 3)

Hey all

I recently copied my XP partition from my old HD to a new HD. I tried to play a dvd and WINDOWS media player just shows a black screen and ends up crashing, but when i unplug the new HD and PLUG in the old one (which has the exact same copy of XP on, just havent got around to formatting it YET) and it works perfectly. Could it be a bad drive to drive copy? I used Acronis Disk Director 10.

Any ideas?

Do you now have two hard drives where you used to have one?Originally had 2 drives in comp, the old one - 40GB and a newer one - 160GB. XP was on the 40GB HD and using Acronis disk director 10 i copied it over to the 160GB HD. I assumed the copy WENT ok, unplugged the 40gb and had just the 160 plugged in. I noticed that DVD's wouldnt play so as an experiment i unplugged the 160 and replugged in the 40 and the DVD would now work. I then went back on to the 160 and used check partition thing with acronis which is just chkdsk, which said there were erros with the partition and to run 'chkdsk /f' which i did. Rebooted and checked again and it says there are no errors, loaded up my network and checked again and now the errors are back and the same thing is told, run chkdsk /f. Sounds liked a bad copy. So i switched back to the 40 and checked that with chkdsk, and it has errors, so maybe acronis copied the HD with errors? Should i run chkdsk /f on the 40GB and then copy it?

The chkdsk scans i did on the hard drives might be inaccurate cause i had processes running when they were done which can cause errors which dont really exist. I think both hard drives are error free and im just copying it wrong.

What i am doing is copying it over using disk director which then reboots the comp while the 40gb is still plugged in as the master and the 160gb is at slave. I thought that once the copy is complete i should switch the 160 hard drive to master before the 40 boots up as it messes up the MBR otherwise?I don't know what Disk Director does that plain old True Image does not, but I can make an image, burn to DVD and then just swap the hard drives and reboot with the Acronis CD and restore from the DVD itself. Do you have a bootable Acronis CD?All i have is disk director on the comp as a program, i expected it to be an iso but it wasnt. You choose 'copy' and then it waits till you reboot to do it as it cant do it with programs running, but then it just restarts when its done so you dont have TIME to switch the HD's around and thats what i think is messing it up, or its just not copying properly. When i plug in the 160GB hd with the copy on it, its jerky and lags, and DVD's wont play (these are the only problems i have noticed). I paid 50$ for this disk director so i want it to work [smiley=angry.gif] [smiley=angry.gif]Well, I have not used that specific product. As I said the retail True Image has a bootable CD with the program on it also for installation. If it is used to boot the machine, ALL of the restore functions are available.

Have you tried booting with yours? Was this a retail purchase? I would contact Acronis if you are a registered user. By paying $50 I am assuming you are.

I use Acronis True Image, have for years, and RECOMMEND it highly. Usually it is about $30 delivered at newegg.com (more on the Acronis site) and is the best money I have SPENT on software in some TIME!

If you dread having to reload Windows, add all the updates, and your software, etc. this makes it a 10 minute job. Great for full and incremental backups as well.

okey...........i used music match jukebox to copy my 45rpm RECORDS and my albums to my hard drive but when i select those songs and burn them on a cd/rw and play them on my PC they are fine but wont play in either of my CAR cd players? why not?Most cd/rw will not work in a standard cd player. Use cd/r media.most cd players also with not FUNCTION if you have more than 19 tracks on the cd/r

My company is currently using Trend Micro Security Dashboard for SMALL business SERVERS. It's alright, but a bit on the pricey side. I've done some research into a cheaper alternitive. I NEED a antivirus that I can push down from our SERVER to 7 client computers, something that has ENOUGH power to protect well ,auto update, auto remove, and scan.
I looked at the Avast! SBS Suite, it looked ok, but I can't seem to locate any kind of reviews or anything for it.
If anyone has any kind of knowledge about this kinda thing, I would appreciate some assistance.

I use Avast free home edition and I think it is better than AVG. That, and a firewall (and common sense), and I never have problems with viruses, and I don't scan for months at a time.

I wrote a very simple Visual Basic PROGRAM on Windows 95 which calls Symantec's Winfax PRO using DDE Pokes. I copied the code straight out of a Symantec example and it worked.

I have upgraded to Windows XP and the program no longer works. It crashes with :

Run-time error '285':

Foreign application won't perform DDE method or operation.


Where do I go to get help on this?

Hi, I'm TRYING to install Windows for Workgroups 3.11 in VMware Workstation 5.5.1. I have already installed DOS on the virtual HD, but when I try to boot the first wfw SETUP disk, I get:

Non-System disk or Disk error
Replace the disk and press enter to continue (or something very similar)

I did some researching, but haven't SEEN anything about it. I have tried to make images of the disks, putting all the FILES from the 6 disks onto a CD image and even onto a CD. I also tried using them straight out in vmware (Use floppy image.) I have no idea what else to do. Please help.WFW is not a bootable disk. (NONE of the old Windows 3.0, 3.11, etc. were as they are not operating systems.) You must have DOS running and then type in a:setup with the diskette in the drive and press enter.well i tried that, but It wouldn't read the disk. When ever I tried a:\setup.exe, it would say Bad command or file name. When I tried a:\ and then setup.exe, it said To install MS-DOS, insert Setup Disk 1 in drive A and press ctrl+alt+del.


EDIT: I finally found out how to do it. I put all the files on one ISO image, got the drivers for the virtual drive, and got it started almost the same way as you suggested, so I guess this wasn't a total waste of space on the board.

Just for future reference, if you have the original Windows disks (ya kno, like 2 and 3 or whatever,) put them on an iso using Alcohol, start up dos in VMware (once you've installed both, VMware first of course,)find some way to get Lite-on drivers installed on there (i put them on floppy in the main system and just used the same floppy in VMware,) restart, then finally type D:\setup.exe at the prompt.

EDIT EDIT: Don't put WIN in autoexec.bat. That freezes the whole thing.I'm glad you got it all fixed up and thanks for posting back. That will save someone some grief down the road.

ok... my problem is:

I am handling a certain Database in MS ACCESS 97 format when I press a button it shows an error "MSACCESS has caused an error in OLEAUT32.DLL. Msaccess will now close." when i press the close button the entire PROGRAM will eventually close...

i don't know what's going on since i am not the one who build/made this database it is a company database and the PROGRAMMER is not accessible since he already migrated somewhere...

[GLB]Flame[/glb]Where did you get it? If you got it off a disk or something or if you have a backup, try replacing it. One possible solution could be to install a later version of ACCESS, as it may be trying to use advanced features not available in 97, which is years old.

After I bring up Adobe Photoshop 4.0, I click on file, import and twain_32. After it finds the scanner, the mirascan screen comes up which looks almost blank and it starts previewing whatever it is I am scanning. It does it on its own. It use to not do the previewing until I clicked on the PREVIEW BUTTON and the screen wasn't blank. How long has this been happening? If RECENT, how about a system restore to when things were working right, if possible. You didn't post your Windows version, so that may not be possible.I have Windows 98 so I don't think I can do that.

Several times I've been playing an online game, quit, only to see the Windows Firewall is blocking this program, do you wish to unblock dialog BOX. WHOAH. You mean you was BLOCKING this game I've just been playing? Gee I'd hate to see the securty risk if you WEREN't blocking it!

And some GAMES I notice, either in the installer or options menu, provide an option to add the program into the exception list. You mean, programs can just ADD themselves at will? What is the point with that? What is to stop Mr. Barry the Hacker from change the text in his trojan horse program from "do you wish to add to firewall exception list", to "click here for FREE coockies, no trojans - honest". Now, I'm a reasonable bloke. Provided I can turn something off, I don't mind how poor it is. But Windows Firewall refuses to die! Each time I run the network WIZARD, it takes the liberty to reactive itself and, like the Microsoft Paper Clip, just doesn't know when to quit! Argh! It is increadably annoying, wondering why this program does not work, to quit and find Windows Firewall has been blocking it (on the rare occasions it DOES block it!).

So is it just me, or is Windows Firewall a great plauge that befouls all of cyberdom?

Panboy, basically programs, it seems, can add themselves to the Windows Firewall exception list and some are not EVEN blocked by the firewall even though the firewall thinks it is blocking them. Seems like a proplem to me.

To chose what to open a file which, select it (usually left-click once) then hold down the shift key and right-click the file. Choose open with... Select the desired program if it appears in the list. If the desired program isn't there, then you might just have to use a different program.yes, im trying to open jpeg, bitmap and others, i THINK 'windows picture and fax viewer' supports most of image file TYPE.

hey guys..
i'm having some TROUBLE with my FOLDER views in Windows XP. everytime i double-click on a folder it opens up a search window instead of actually OPENING the folder.

i've tried going into the folder views and seeing if something has gone wrong there, but it still says the default is to open.

is there something i'm missing?? please HELP...it's driving me nuts!

I have been looking around for updates or upgrades for my BIOS and chipset. Here are the specs. for my bios and chipset:

Why would you want to? VIRTUAL Memory settings are best left for Windows to sort out, to be honest with you.

And ANYWAY, I doubt you'll see any benefit in increasing it - in fact, you'll probably land up slowing your computer down significantly, as more data is transferred between the HDD and memory.He's right. Windows has a device already installed that will AUTOMATICALLY increase your virtual memory for you. May I ask WHY you would want to increase your virtual memory? Is your computer slowing down or something?

I just got a new computer & I've burned data from my OLD computer onto CDRW to be able to PUT it onto the new computer. (Such as documents & pics) Well I'm clueless as to how to get them from the CD to save to the new computer. Do I have to do it from explore or what? I'm so frustrated I could rip my HAIR out! lol

dl65 If you're MAKING a logo, you might want to use gif. They are sharper. png is supposed to be a high quality format. jpegs are for IMAGES such as photos where a bit of distortion will not be noticed, but may ruin a logo.

there must be some other place where sound is switched on or off?Well, sometimes the most basic points need to be reviewed. Do your speakers have their own power switch? If so, are they turned on? Do your speakers have their own volume control? IF so, have you tried adjusting it?

Are you absolutely sure your speakers are connected to the right connector on your computer? If your computer originally had onboard sound and you later added a sound card, you'll have two sets of connectors for speakers, mic, line in, etc. The onboard set would not work if onboard sound is disabled in the BIOS.I checked all that first thing. Nothing has changed. I have added nothing to the original setup except the RAM. The light in the speaker controls knob is lit.It is fixed. I CALLED Dell. They still HELPED even though the warranty has long ago expired. This time when I looked at the devices an unknown one had APPEARED. Don't know where it was hiding. I sure didn't see it before. Anyway I INSTALLED it and now I have sound.

Is it safe to DOWNLOAD?
Limewire includes 3rd party software like Cydoor to deliver targeted ADS to you. They don't specify what software they specifically use in their on site privacy policy. Best is not to download it. emule....I think its used by a lot ......but one can't be too careful these days .

Use compatability mode if you get problems.It might, and might not. If I am CORRECT, Windows XP is based off of NT, 2000, and 98. I have games for Nt, 2000, and 98, and most seem to work.... Give it a try...

It might, and might not. If I am correct, Windows XP is based off of NT, 2000, and 98. I have games for Nt, 2000, and 98, and most seem to work.... Give it a try...

I have Nero 6 and can't burn anything, CD or DVD. I have sent the error message that I GET to Nero support and they say it may be my disc. I am useing Staples discs. They also say it may be a power problem that my burner should not be sharing power with anything else. Does that mean I need a separate power supply just for the burner. I have two burners, not used at the same time, but do they each need a spearate supply?Have you been able to burn in the past with the same hardware and software? No, you don't "need a separate power supply just for the burner." But, it may help not to do any other tasks on your computer while trying to burn a CD. In fact, I believe that will give you the best chance of getting a successful burn and should be the normal practice when burning; just let the computer do that one task when you've STARTED burning.

What is the power rating, in Watts, of the power supply unit in your computer? Were these two drives added after you bought your computer? Did they replace older optical drives or were they additions to your system?

Have you experimented with changing the burning speed? What speed were you using when you tried to burn? You have both a CD burner and a DVD burner, right? I usually use name brand MEDIA, but have used Office Depot CDR's without difficulty and I suspect whoever makes them for the name brands makes them for OD as well. ($4.99 for a 50 count spindle is hard to pass up! ) Usually you can find Sony, Memorex, etc. for $7.99 on sale occasionally also.

It's hard to tell what all is in your registry or system if it has been a while since Windows was installed. Nero has never given me any problems, through several versions.

I usually butn at 24-32X (even with a 52X drive) but burn operating systems (Linux varieties) at 4X and don't have any problems. I am just a creature of habit about this, but I don't get coaster.

What about some details of the machine itself?What software did Nero suggest you download for some cleanup? Did you use it and then try burning again?

I suggest you download CCleaner and clean your system with it. I can't guarantee it will make any difference, but it may be worth a try.Nero sent this for me to clean the system, ftp://ftp9.nero.com/attach/cleanpack.zip . I ran it and slowed the speed down to 4X and still did not burn. Got another error message. I have sent it to Nero and am waiting.
In the meantime I used BunOn and finally got a successful burn on this little 6mg project I was wanting to put on disc. Just got luck I guess.

We work with Server 2000 on our network at work. We are having problems opening all excels docs. The open for one person only. I just reinstalled Windows XP and for some reason the way the texts on the web pages are displayed is different. Now, the texts are noticably thinner than before which makes it hard to read and irritates my eyes. I tried adjusting the text size and encoding but it can only enlarge the size of the characters - I only want the texts to be the same size but thicker. I also tried adjusting the dpi setting on Control Panel but it only changes the texts on menu bar but not the ones in the web page.
Is there anyway to fix this? Sounds like your resolution is too high. On the DISPLAY options, change your resolution (SETTINGS tab) to 800 x 600 or 1024 x 768.

If you're using a CRT monitor, go on the advanced BUTTON and look in monitor and adaptor (look in both) and change the refresh rate. Try 75Hz. This should make the monitor easier on the eyes.

You might need to use the controls on your monitor to fine tune horizontal and vertical size/positon etc after adjusting settings.Thanks Neil for the help. The thing is that I use a laptop here and have a resolution of 1024 by 768 (96 DPI). I can adjust the DPI setting in Control Panel but that only works for the texts on menu bar but not on the web pages.If you're using Internet Explore, select: view, text and select the size you require.Does this only affect web pages?I finally found out the way to fix this!!
On the Appearance tab in Control Panel's Display Properties, SET the text to Cleartype. Now the texts on my sceen has a clearer lines and better display resolution.

Is your office set up on a computer network? Even if it is, eLibPro must be designed to work on a network and I see no INFORMATION on their website indicating it has that capability. So, even though you like it, I believe it's not designed to be a multi-user system and you will not be able to make it accessible to employees from other computers.

By the way, eLibPro does have it's own forum. That would be a logical place to ask questions about it. If you need a multi-user system, then you might not be able to get that for free. I suspect you really need a database server (e.g. MySQL). There ARE multi-user LIBRARIAN programs out there, but they generally aren't that cheap. I could write a bespoke solution, but it would be a big job, and even more expensive than purchasing something off the shelf, I think.

This issue just started where a USER cannot open an excel sheet emailed to him. The sheet is a copy out of an existing workbook. If I send the workbook, it opens fine. The copy gets the read only TAG when created.. Don't understand that. The Read only that I saw was created only when I ATTEMPTED to open the file from the preview pane in Outlook. If I opened the message first, it was not read only. I have made a few "windows movie MAKER" videos (.wmv), using still photos and music backgrounds (mp3). I am running Windows ME, and i have Nero 5 burner as well, but cannot figure out how to burn the file onto a cd. Is this possible, or is it only viewable on the computer? I have tried to burn it with my nero and it doesnt work. And i have tried to "copy to cd or device" using my windows media player 9, but all i get is audio and no video, although it states that its a video file thats its copying?
Can someone fill me in on how to do this if possible?
And please talk me through it step by step as if i were a child...lol. (a child may have already figured it out though, who knows...lol)

So, i know thats its working in full but i cant seem to burn it with both audio and video together onto cd. someone told me that i have to convert it before burning it, using a asf converter? but i dont have the money to purchase one and the trial versions that are offered leave a watermark on the videos after it converts it from wmv to mpg. [glb]Flame[/glb]Hello,i was hoping to burn this so that it could be watched on our dvd player which plays just about all formats, mp3, mpgs, dvd, cd, etc). The cd that i was using to burn it on is a cd-r.
hers the thing. Last night i was foolin around with my nero 5 burner and used the multi mode session. i was able to put the wmv file in the top PORTION and then i took the same song that i originally used in that video clip and just added that mp3 to the bottom portion and it burnt it together. It played FINE in the computer,(video and audio), but will not work in the dvd player.
It didnt give me an option to save it as mpg so i dont know where to go from here. Its good to know that it can be burnt to the cd-r's that i have, but i would like to be able to play it in my dvd player, which as i said plays just about all formats.

KevinKevin......Using Nero ......open the wizard ......make sure you select "other cd formats" ....then Audio and DATA mixed ........then follow the directions and you have what you want.....

Thanks for the info. I did exactly as you said, but once i got into the box, I wasnt sure as to where to drag the wmv file into, (top or bottom), so i tried it at the top in the "data" section and it wouldnt give me to option to burn and also only showed like 30 seconds worth of time at the bottom (the video is actually like 4 minutes or so). So then i dragged the wmv file to the bottom portion and it showed the correct t5ime length of the file at the bottom and will allow me to burn it but i believe it will only burn the audio portion of the wmv file because when i hit the "play" option all it plays is the background music and i didnt want to take a chance burning it and ending up with another audio only cd since i'm now getting low on cd's from trying so many different ways...lol.
Are you sure that i can burn an actual Windows movie video file as a whole (video and audio) just as it is?
Any other hints or ideas are greatly appreciated.

I have a PC with Acer M11EJ-1A motherboard with Acer V3.1 RO1-A2 F1 EN 10.15/98 BIOS
For some strange reason, the Bios has CHANGED from English to some other strange LANGUAGE with lot's of smiley card icons.
The computer still operates normally but I cannot make any CHANGES in the BIOS without knowing what I'm reading.
Any ideas on how to restore the original language would be gratefully accepted ???

Then it's just a CASE of copying the files from there to 'C:\Windows\System' (again, replace with whatever it is in XP)

---Well, the first thing to do is to try accessing these things without your firewall. If you can't, it's not the firewall causing the problems.

I need more info, like your operating system and what filewall this is.Depending on the firewall, you might see a little icon at the bottom right of your screen. Simply right-click on that firewall icon, and hit disable. Once you are done downloading what you want, right-click on that same icon, and hit enable. This should fix your problem, but more information would be useful...

Hey guys, I bought an MP3 player only about a month ago and would like to convert some old tapes to digital format so that I can burn them to CD and/or play them on my MP3 player. I've got my tape deck connected to the Line In connector on my sound card and can use the software that came with the MP3 player to record tapes PLAYED in my tape deck.

My old stereo system, including the tape deck, are in one room and my computer is in another room. Since most tapes have few seconds of nothing before they actually start playing music, that gives me a chance to start the tape, then go to my computer and start the recording.

But, when the tape finishes playing, I need to be at my computer and stop the recording or I'll get some blank time included at the end of the recording. I wonder whether there's any software that will automatically stop recording when the tape reaches the end. Alternatively, is there a fairly easy way to edit a recording and chop off the blank time at the end of a recording?

The software came with the MP3 player, which is a Creative MuVO TX FM model, is Creative MediaSource Organizer and Creative MediaSource Player; that's what I've used so far to convert two tapes. PERHAPS the editing capability is in the software and I just haven't discovered it yet. Anybody familiar with it?


Soybean, Audacity can edit the wave file and remove the silence. See the software FAQ. Rob, thanks for the link. I downloaded it. I will try it and let you know how it goes.Well, Audacity can be used to remove silence at the end of a recording, although it's done in a different way than I anticipated after you posted your message. Audacity has a Silence COMMAND but that inserts silence rather than removes it. To remove silence at the end of a recording, I can use the Trim command; the technique is similar to cropping a photo.

The audio file is displayed in a graphical representation by Audacity and the silent PORTION is clearly identifiable. By selecting all but the silent part at the end and using Trim, the silent portion is CUTOFF. Then, the actual sound portion can be exported to a new file.That's right.

If you're REALLY *censored* (like me) you can zoom in on the start and end of the recording, and ensure you delete every last millisecond of silence.

By the way, before you go and convert all of your tapes, check out Audacity's noise reduction filter. You will be much happier with the results, if you do.

I have 2 strange issues that show up on my computer that suddenly show up after I’ve been on for awhile that I can’t explain:
1. The VOLUME sticks on high with the master volume illustration plaster on the bottom of the screen. Even if I restart the computer and it goes away, it shows up again.
