Solve : AMD 5470 Graphic card driver help needed?

Answer»

Hello there!

I have AMD Mobility Radeon HD 5470 graphic card installed in HP G62 laptop. Laptop came with windows 7 with everything working.

Last year I updated windows 7 to windows 8.1 with that I also updated all my drivers including AMD driver. I installed version 14.4 from AMD website. It all worked fine after that.

Few days ago I started facing some graphic problems like distorted pixels on the screen and after that laptop rebooted itself. It used to happen when I was watching video or playing a video game. After few days their number of occurrences increased as it became impossible for me to do any WORK.

Then I decided to update driver. I downloaded latest version of driver that is 14.12. When I installed that, between the installation laptop restarts and it booted into blank logon screen.
Somehow then I started safe mode and from device manager I updated the AMD card driver to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. After that I was able to BOOT into the pc in normal mode but when I open device manager there is a yellow sign on Microsoft Basic Display Adapter. When I try to update the driver it again GOES to blank screen on startup then again I need to change it to Microsoft Basic Display Adapter from safe mode. I have also seen blue screen for several times of error like, SYSTEM_THREAD_EXCEPTION_NOT_HANDLED and  VIDEO_DRIVER_INIT_FAILURE.

I have also tried installing that 14.4 AMD driver software. It installs successfully but nothing changes.

On HP website there is only one AMD driver which is for windows 7. I also tried to install it but find no luck.

I hope someone can help me in fixing this problem.
Thanks in advance.Sounds like the video card is damaged. I have had damaged video CARDS work before under a basic windows driver but by which the actual video card driver doesnt function because the instruction set is not able to initialize the full abilities of the video card. It sounds like your in the same situation with this card. Do you know if this mobile video card ever RAN too hot?

This model has lots of red flags for overheat and video card problems on google: https://www.google.com/?gws_rd=ssl#q=hp+g62+video+card+problem

Solve : Windows 7 does not start?

Answer»

Hi!

I have a serious problem with my computer. My ASUS laptop with windows 7 does not work properly. When I try to startup I did not get thru the startuproutine - because some startupdrivers are damaged.

When I try I can´t reach the recovery space on the harddrive and I have lost my recovery dvd. ASUS did not provide me with a new recovery DVD with windows 7.

I have lots of important DOCUMENTS on partion D - and I dont want to loose these documents.

Is it POSSIBLE to restore my damage startupdrivers on my computer - without destroying data on D partion?

I am not shure how to do this - MAYBE you can help me save my computer?

Best regards

Christian

Solve : Unlisted Realtek Network Adapter Driver?

Answer»

Right out of the box I've been having problems with this USB 2.0 Network Adapter: Realtek RTL8192EU Wireless LAN 802.11n USB 2.0 network adapter from StarTech.com.

It isn't recognizing that the USB is plugged in. Naturally, I went out in search of a driver update, only to find that the product is not listed on the Realtek manufacturer's website. I know they are not reliable, but I downloaded a few highly rated automatic driver updaters and they all flagged the adapter as outdated, and they all recommended the same 2014 update.

I managed to install it, and it worked like a charm. After a large Windows update earlier today, it seems to have reverted back to the outdated driver that came with the disc, and my computer is failing to detect the USB again. I tried to download it again through the same program, but it keeps failing to download and gives no reason.

I'm puzzled because there seems to be HUNDREDS of websites with these automatic driver updaters with the exact same update for my network adapter, but the Realtek website doesn't list the product at all.

I can't download the actual driver file because I can't find it, Realtek doesn't even acknowledge that the product exists, and the one program I found refuses to install the update again. I'm at a loss right now.

I am using Windows 8.1, and I did check to make sure it is compatible. I also emailed Realtek support, but have yet to receive a reply. Is there any advice anyone can give me on this issue?Windows 8.1 does a good job of FINDING drivers for Realtek devices.
May I suggest you just get another adapter. You can now buy recent Realtek models for less than $20 from many SOURCES. And they come with up to dare driver disc.

I'm connected through a cable right now, so I'm not in need of an adapter, but I would like this wireless adapter to work properly.

I'm really curious about how these automatic driver updating programs work. There are many with the exact same update, yet there is no update to be found to download without the automatic updating programs. Where are they getting it from, and why do they all flag it with the same version of the driver for my product?

Shouldn't Realtek at least upload the version of the driver that is on the disc the adapter came with for download? What if your disc becomes lost or damaged? They have drivers for their other network adapters, but why do they not even list a product they manufacture? It's not that old.Been Here ? ?

Patio is right. I am using an 'unknown' Relltek' USB Wireless right now on Windows 8.1 and a driver finder could not identify the device, but Windows 8.1 did find it. And it works good.
BTW: The link Patio gave also  includes links to sires for the XP and Vista drivers, which are hard to find elsewhere.
EDIT: I imagine your Teltek  USB adapter failed and that is why Windows 8.1 did not identify it. But I  like my Reltek and I ordered a  second one for $5 from eBay. At $5 a pop it is hard to find fault if most of them work most of the TIME.

Yes, none of those drivers are for Windows 8.

I'm sure you're right that the driver finder apps are risky and unreliable, but I'm wondering where they all get the updates from. They're pretty consistent about finding the same update, and when I managed to download it, it did fix my problem.

I can understand if they just flag drivers as outdated to scare you into buying their product, but when I installed that driver, another driver update utility recognized the adapter as being up-to-date.

I guess I'm asking if you wouldn't mind elaborating on the assertion that driver update utilities are "garbage". How do they work?

Yeah, if I was thriftier and got it for five dollars I wouldn't mind spending another five bucks just to try again. Unfortunately, I'm just a novice when it comes to shopping for computer hardware. The one I bought had solid reviews on Amazon, so I felt comfortable with the price, but I already bought a new computer, and spending even five dollars more on it hurts for a frugal spender like me.

I suppose it's the principle of it as well. I figure there must be a solution, and I don't give up very easy.Buy a new one...sometimes being frugal will cost you money...and aggravation. Here is a link to startech usb network adapter with the same realtek chipset and you can find a driver in the support tab .

Solve : fingerprit device not working?

hi
i`m using hp pavillion dv-6 tx-1319 laptop (with 64 bit cpu) which had pre configured windows 7 OS 32 bit and all the hp drivers preinstalled
the problem arose when i`d to switch to windows 8.1 64 bit, the finger print driver is not getting installed or i can`t find the proper driver
the hp website says " we don`t provide drivers for different OS
PLEASE HELPA quick search confirms  HP does not support Windows 8.1 for that model

What if I don't SEE my operating system from HP's software page?
If the operating system you are looking for is not listed on the software download site, HP does not have software or driver downloads available for your computer and operating system. HP provides software and driver updates for the operating system that originally came with your computer as it was designed and tested for the operating system purchased with the PC. CHANGING the operating system on your computer (upgrading or DOWNGRADING), PUTS the system into a configuration that might not work with the hardware design. If you you must change the operating system, get drivers from the manufacturer of the component you need. For example, if a computer has NVIDIA video hardware and was upgraded to a newer version of Windows, someone would go to NVIDIA's web site to download and install an updated driver.

You could try to find a GENERIC driver that would work with this. I have found compatible generic drivers in the past by installing a latest Linux distro to the computer or even more simply booting the system off of Knoppix and then looking at what drivers it uses and what chipsets are detected, writing down that driver info, and then hunting down either a windows based driver that matches to the specific chipset of that device or the generic driver that may also be available for windows.

This is not a fun process and requires lots of time and research.

One other method I have done is copied the driver info off of the prior OS to a thumb drive or disc and then force the newer OS to run the older driver, "BUT", there is no guarantee that this will fix the issue and given that its used for system authentication if it malfunctions you could lock yourself out of your system.

Is there a reason why you cant stick with 7 where everything works? The OP said he was using windows 7 32 bit.  Now he has Windows 8.1 64 bit.

It has been said elsewhere that getting any  32 bit driver to work is a 64 bit OS is not possible. The exception is whee you have the source code.
Quote
It has been said elsewhere that getting any  32 bit driver to work is a 64 bit OS is not possible. The exception is whee you have the source code.

Unfortunately I have to disagree with this...     I have been able to use 32-bit drivers on 64-bit builds for Windows 7, its just that the OS might alert you to the fact that its not a 64-bit signed driver but of which you force it to accept to use that driver anyways.

While this will not work for all drivers, some drivers that are 32-bit drivers for 32-bit OS's work with 64-bit OS's. However if there is the opportunity to do so, its always best to run the latest and correct for the OS drivers vs off bit type and off OS type.

I have been able to get a 32-bit Windows XP driver for an obsolete chipset for example to work with Windows 7 64-bit with with Core 2 Duo CPU where the integrated GPU was maxing out at 800x600 with the Windows 7 64-bit generic driver. I was able to force it to run the 32-bit XP driver on 7 64-bit and get the 1024x768 that I wanted as well as the correct GPU driver vs generic so that games would run better on the integrated video such as Facebook flash games.

*** Not sure if this holds true though for Windows 8 64-bit as for I havent forced Windows 8 or 8.1 64-bit to take a older 32-bit driver like I have Windows 7 64-bit.DaveLembke, What you say sounds reasonable. If MS wanted to they could have made a way for 32 bits drives to work in the 64 bit environment. But apparently MS did not want that and so the 'experts' tell us it is impossible.
Universal drivers are now being written the can go both ways. But that does not help for old drivers. Unless you have the source code.

i don`t know guys but i`ve been using most of the softwares having 32 bit specification, they work fine with 64 bit OS.
i searched finger print scanner driver for windows 7 32/64 bit and installed it (validity sensor and hp simple pass) But looks like nothing changed.

Solve : BIOS woes?

Answer»

I have an old (unknown date of build) computer that once upon a time was a server. It has a Asus SK8N mobo. I dumped a spare hdd into it and proceeded to try to install XP PRO. For some unknown reason at the POINT in the setup to start the install it will not accept input from the keyboard. Hitting Enter at Press any key to boot from cd works, setup starts and proceeds . At the point where it prompts to hit Enter to install Windows it will go no further. Normally the first light (next to Caps Lock) comes on, this is not happening. So, I figured I'd pop the CMOS battery and leave it out for at least 10 minutes. Upon putting the battery back in and firing it up it tells me BIOS is not installed. HMMMMM, K. Fire it back up again, this time hitting the Delete key. Viola .... I can access the BIOS. Make sure nothing (as far as I know) is awry. Still same result from here on out.IMO it is not a BIOS issues. I think you have some hardwarenot working well.
Here are some suggestions. This is more based on experience than on any theoretical ideas. From my own experience Windows XP will fail uninstallation for any number of hardware related issues. It does not always indicate what the problem is. The fact that the keyboard is not responding does not mean the problem is the keyboard. It can be a separate issue.
Need to verify that the keyboard really is okay. The fact that it works in the BIOS does not prove the keyboard is perfect. Also, you need to make certain the hard drive is in good condition and USABLE by XP. If possible, try formatting that hard drive with another computer. Just make sure that it is in good condition. Also check the amount of RAM you have installed. Windows XP may fail if there is anything wrong with  RAM. Again, don't expect it to give you a meaningful error message.
And don't forget, the CD reader also has to be in good condition. It has dust in it,  XP may fail to finish the installation.
Best I can  offer.  Thank you. I have verified that both keyboards work on a known good computer (they are sitting side by side and I switch back and forth, I'm on my good one now). One keyboard is USB the other PS2 It was working, running Windows 7 prior to this. I RAN DBAN on the hard drive and it passed. I have blown out all dust in every nook and cranny and unplugged and reseated all the cables. I wanted to load XP because it just wasn't quite up to par running W7.I forgot to mention. Depending on BIOS,  XP might not instal if it has SATA drives.
That is a BIOS option.I'm using a IDE drive.

Solve : Driver interfering with Internet Speed?

Answer» HELLO, new to this forum and forums in general so please bare with any mistakes I make.
My relevant specs are as follows:
-Lenovo G505s laptop.

-AMD Radeon HD 8650G

-Windows 8 64 bit

-AMD A10-570M APU

-Updated BIOS (Not tech savvy so I don't know where to pull up the info on it)

-Qualcomm Atheros AR8172/8176/8178 PCI-E Fast Ethernet Controller (NDIS 6.30) (Version 2.1.0.15)

-Qualcomm Atheros AR9485WB-EG Wireless Network Adapter (Version
10.0.0.242)

I have severely limited download speed on my laptop with both Wifi and Ethernet connections. I'd like to disperse the idea that this is caused by my router (Verizon fios) or ISP, as I share it with other family members who have no issues on their end. The average speed I SHOULD be getting is 30Mbps Wifi and 55 Mbps Ethernet, with AROUND 20sh upload speed. What I am in fact getting is 0.5-4 wifi (MAJORITY under 1), and 2.5-6 Mbps on Ethernet. I ran my computer in safe mode with networking to see what would happen, ran speedtest.net and found that my speed jumps way up to around 40 or something. Then I hooked up my Ethernet and was blown away with a 90Mbps download speed. I am aware this isn't what I'd get in normal mode if things worked out fine. I'd like to mention that I have updated my Network adapter, but this has not fixed the issue.

Around this point I've been doing a lot of forum surfing and found several people claiming that the issue originates from the AMD Catalyst Display Driver. This doesn't seem to make sense because that should have nothing to do with internet speed. But nonetheless, people have individually uninstalled all there AMD Catalyst Drivers one by one (Retesting their speed on speedtest.net), to see where the issue originated, and they all found it was caused by the Display Driver. I came to the Hope chat room asking for help on how to replace my display driver with a functioning one, because I'm not too tech savvy. I was brushed off (And eventually booted) b/c the people I spoke with refused to accept the validity of my problem, even when I provided a forum link (Which they didn't read). I will provide a link to the amd forums that discusses this very issue, and I would like to ASK that if you choose to disbelieve my issue, to read the forum thread first before ignoring me. Please understand I am somewhat upset with what happened because I felt rejected before I even got to fully discuss my problem because it is something that seems impossible to the two people (Not saying names) at the moment.

http://forums.amd.com/game/messageview.cfm?catid=454&threadid=177891&enterthread=y

Now what I'd like to ask help for, and I appreciate any assistance, is what exactly is my AMD Catalyst Display Driver? Is it the Display Adapter listed in the Device Manager? Or is it something listed somewhere in the Catalyst Control Center (I can't seem to pull up any informative specs on the Control Center)? Where do I install a driver to replace this that ISN'T an AMD Catalyst Driver? Some people have said that using previous versions of said Driver hasn't fixed the problem, while it did for others.

Thanks for reading my issue, and I hope for some help.

EDIT: Here are some more links to threads discussing the issue I have. Its not impossible:

http://forums.guru3d.com/showthread.php?t=393325
http://www.overclock.net/t/1328306/catalyst-drivers-are-making-my-internet-really-slow
http://www.techsupportforum.com/forums/f31/solved-6th-clean-install-slow-internet-speed-issue-868394.htmlSo I decided to risk things and uninstall the AMD display driver, as well as other additives like AMD Quick stream (As was advised by one of the forum links I listed), and that did not fix the issue. I am at a complete loss of what to do.

Solve : Toshiba Disk Drive?

Answer»

Hello I have a problem with my laptop and I would like to ask if you know what can be done with it. So it's a Toshiba laptop and about a week ago I went to reboot it as it wasn't working properly. I rebooted it and then I got a message saying I need to restart it to finish REBOOTING. I restarted it but it SAID restart unsuccessful or something like that. So I tried refreshing it, I tried restoring it but nothing worked at all I couldn't get into my laptop except the reboot menu. So my only option that actually worked was clicking clear HARD drive. I did it and since then I can't turn on my laptop because it said no bootable device - please restart system and I can't do anything at all. I tried taking the disk drive out and putting it back in but it doesn't work. Do you know how I can fix it? Maybe getting a new disk drive? Thanks very much.I've never seen "clearing hard drive" as a Windows COMMAND...
What exactly did you do ? Quote

clicking clear hard drive
It delete the entire HDD information and made it blank.

Quote
I did it and since then I can't turn on my laptop because it said no bootable device
That is because there is nothing (SOFTWARE) to boot from installed on the HDD.

Do you have a Windows disk for that system?  Try a repair and see if that fixes the issue that data may still be there but the boot information may be missing.

Solve : Need soundcard driver?

Answer»

I need to download a W7 driver for a Sound Blaster CT4870 . I SEE a bunch of sites that supposedly have the driver but end up linking to oddball sites. I don't trust the oddball sites . Would a Vista driver work for W7? I highly doubt an XP driver would work.If a legitimate W7 driver exists for that card it will be on the Creative Labs website or the website of your system manufacturer. DO NOT download DRIVERS from any other sources. If the card and system weren't intended to run Windows 7 why are you doing so? And if you want to try a Vista driver, go ahead. It won't hurt anything.Let me  add this. You should  download for the manufactures site.
Because getting a possible virus is not a way to solve the problem.
Windows 7 should work on the older SB cards.
But is there a real good reason to want to USE that old card? The reason I am wanting to use this old card is that I was given an old computer, my budget is $0.00 and I have this old card which fits the socket. I am wanting to BEEF it up a little bit and have it as a spare.

If it doesn't have Win7 drivers then yer outta luck...
A sound card even if you have no money is a lawn job/garage cleanout away...

Solve : Computer crashes suddenly when playing games---bizarre?

Answer»

Recently my computer has started crashing on me. I have an Alienware m18x r1 with two gtx 460m graphic cards, and intel 2820 qm processor (I think).  Sorry if this is in the wrong sub-forum, if it needs to be moved please do so (new here).

The symptoms:
-happens (so far) only while playing an online fullscreen game
-the computer shuts off INSTANTLY as if I'd held down the power button, sometimes it does reboot, sometimes it doesn't (last few times it has rebooted)

More INFO:
-I recently cleaned out all the dust from my laptop and applied new thermal paste to the CPU (about 1 week ago) but the problems with the sudden shut-downs only started yesterday ago
-SpeedFan reports that all temperatures within my cpu and gpu are within acceptable limits---below 60 degrees Celsius, and the crash OFTEN occurs within several minutes of when I start to play the game, before laptop would have heated up much (before I did the cleaning of the laptop a week ago, the laptop used to feel hot to the touch at times, it never does anymore)
-tried several different versions of NVIDIA drivers ranged from versions 3.35 to 3.30, crash seems to happen either way
-tried updating my BIOS from version a04 to a05, doesn't seem to have stopped the crashes while playing game
-tried clean reinstall of windows 8.1, without success; this severely limits the # of software-related things that could be CAUSING the crash, because there's only half a dozen programs I've installed so far
-avg antivirus picks up no malware that could be causing this

Possibly the cause, but not sure what it means:
-using Event Viewer, I looked through every single event log immediately after a crash. The *ONLY* event that was logged *immediately* before the shut down was this; this error was being spammed, sometimes several times a minute, right up to the time of the crash. However, I have the game open in the background atm, and when I refresh the event viewer, this particular error is still being generated periodically, but the computer isn't shutting down.

My theory (for what its worth): some driver/software/something is incorrectly believing that my computer is in danger of overheating, and is shutting it down to prevent damage. Problems with this theory, why does it only happen during the play of the game? Theory 2; something related to a display driver; problem, why doesn't changing the display driver version seem to help the problem?

I'm at a bit of a loss. When I last looked in my laptop, the cpu/gpu seemed to be properly SEATED, I checked the tightness of the screws and cables carefully as I reassembled the laptop. Plus, the problems with the shutdowns started yesterday, but the last time I was inside my laptop was about 4 days ago.

Thanks for any help you can provide! Really looking to get this SOLVED asap, because I can't game atm without fixing this first, the shutdown happens too fast.

You have COME to the right place.
Well, to begin with, let me have some questions.
Is this your first time doing a home built? Have you had prior experience troubleshooting common problems with the personal computers?
Did you have the system working well, let at one time and then it stopped working?
How did you install the drivers? Did you use the disk that came with the motherboard? Does the rest of the hardware seemed to work okay? When you look at the device manager the you see any indications that something is not quite right?

Also, what kind of external loudspeakers  do you have.

Yes. Yes. Yes. I installed it with the disk which came with the hardware. Yes. Yes, there was TWO yellow caution like triangles. Somehow the computer managed to fix itself, i believe. Anyways, I've always had no luck fixing sound drivers on any computer. Have had BETTER luck with other troubleshooting problems. I have now backed up my drivers to my PC and will be moving them to a external disk in case it happens again I will just switch it over. Thank you for your time.

Solve : Win7 drivers for HP753n?

Answer»

Uh-oh....

http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/windows_7-hardware/having-a-hard-time-locating-hp-drivers-for-windows/abd7f542-0fa8-45ef-9067-dbbf90bc4935

HP says they only provide XP drivers for this rig. Apparently their policy is to provide drivers for only the original OS.Windows 7 32-bit should work fine on this computer as long as you have plenty of RAM such as 3GB is best, 1GB bare minimum. GPU drivers are the biggest problem for a system of this age and it can be resolved by installing a low end modern video card that is better than the integrated and has support for Windows 7.

Specs I see for this system are: Pentium 4 2.53Ghz, came originally with 512MB RAM and 80GB HDD

This system wont run 7 fast, but it can run it if you have plenty of RAM ( memory ).

What driver are you trying to hunt down by the way?

I got Windows 7 32-bit to run on a 2002 model year eMachine that was running a 2.0 Ghz Pentium 4 and 1GB of DDR 266Mhz RAM. Biggest issue was that emachines only made XP and older drivers for this system, and Intel only made up to Windows XP drivers for the Intel 845GL chipset ( integrated video ). I was able to force Windows 7 32-bit to run Windows XP 32-bit drivers and get the 1024 x768 back vs the Windows 7 graphics of just 800x600 and 256 color setting. Thanks Dave. This rig was UPGRADED to 1GB RAM and is not capable of more. It has been running ok with 1 GB because they do not demand MUCH performance. Don't know what drivers will be missing...hopefully none but just trying to be prepared. That is why I have been so interestd in learning how to backup drivers. I am not sure all of them are still available.

Hey, I am an old grumpy *censored*. I will try, but can not promise. Quote
How did you "force" your machine to use XP drivers on Win 7?

Upon running the Intel 845 chipset driver which was a EXE, Windows 7 complained that the driver was the incorrect driver for this OS or something along those lines. I ended up right-clicking on the EXE and telling it to run-as administrator and I forced Windows 7 to run that EXE. That EXE created a folder at the C: drive something like C:\Intel\XP\845GL as a path. I then went to device manager and right-clicked on the GPU which had a yellow ! mark and told it to update driver, then I pointed the path to the driver to the C:\Intel\XP\845GL and it displayed that it found the driver present, but that it was not a Windows 7 certified driver and I told it to apply this chipset driver which was meant for Windows XP to Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium. It took the driver and then I performed a reboot. Upon the reboot the system had no issues and now I was able to set the Intel 845GL GPU to 1024x768 with better than just 256 colors. I was then able to also run Youtube videos ok on it, although they had to run at 360p because the Intel 845GL GPU only had 64MB of shared memory ( where it allocates 64MB of the system RAM as GPU memory leaving 960MB of 1024MB free for the OS to function ) and this GPU is very weak to todays standards.

The 2.53Ghz should run a little better than the 2.00Ghz Pentium 4 that I tested Windows 7 32-bit on as for in addition to the CPU being 530Mhz faster, the Pentium 4 CPU's evolved some between the 2Ghz and 2.53Ghz to handle more of a work load of processing with faster FSB, and 2x larger cache config, and 13 million more transistors in the single core design between my system and your Pentium 4 2.53Ghz.

Mine http://ark.intel.com/products/27432/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-2_00-GHz-256K-Cache-400-MHz-FSB

vs

Yours http://ark.intel.com/products/27441/Intel-Pentium-4-Processor-2_53-GHz-512K-Cache-533-MHz-FSB

Pretty slick little maneuver there Dave... Thanks

If that forcing of the EXE execution didnt work with the Windows 7 32-bit run-as administrator, I was going to run it from within a Virtual Windows XP environment and then copy the decompressed contents for that driver in the now file/folder form vs EXE form to the Windows 7 system, and then point Windows 7 to the driver that is now not tucked hidden behind an EXE that sometimes will not allow you to execute with the incorrect OS version as other drivers of incorrect OS or system build will error out if not run within their normal intended environment of execution.

I have had to go this method a few times before... and then when it comes to Linux, wrapping drivers is always run too  I used to use that maneuver all the time with Win2000 & WinXP trying to get Win98 drivers installed.  My computers are all WinVista or Win7 but I do have a Pentium4 WinXP box I rescued from the curbside trash.  It only gets turned on 2x/mo. for updating.  Even with 3GB RAM, it's just too slow.  The latest service pack (3) & security updates really slowed things down.

Computers are so inexpensive now, it's not cost effective to upgrade old ones. You could also try installing Linux OS - Ubuntu or Mint instead.

I need help to update my wireless driver "broadcom 802.11n network ADAPTER"

The version installed is 5.60.48.35 - driver PROVIDER: Broadcom

I tried to update it through driver manager it says it's up to date, however my free Driver Toolkit says it's outdated and Version 9 is available.

I am using Toshiba laptop , Win 7 professional x 32 bit , SERVICE pack 1, 2G RAM , processor Intel(R) Core(TM) i3 CPUDon't bother with those "driver update" programs - They treat drivers being slightly out of date as a serious issue in order to GET you to buy their software.  I'd recommend you remove this "free Driver Toolkit".

If you really want to update the drivers you could always download them from Toshiba's website but there is no real need to update them unless you are having some sort of issues with your wireless card. Thanks for your reply.

As a matter of fact I need to update this driver for my WiFi hot spot to work. I downloaded the Driver Toolkit to help me find out  the latest available version of the driver.

I tried Toshiba web site and I couldn't find the driver , I am sure it's there but I don't know how to find it.

If you or anyone can help me locate this driver on Toshiba web site or elsewhere I will be so grateful.

Solve : Code 31 on network adapters after installing new driver?

Answer»

I picked up a USB wireless adapter from AT&T when they installed my INTERNET service this week. I ran the INCLUDED disk, it said it installed the driver, then asked my to plug in the device. I plugged the device in, then clicked okay and a few moments later, it asked again. It continued to cycle this way.

Restarted my computer and tried again. Continued.

Tried the device and software on ANOTHER computer: the device worked fine.

Tried to hardwire my computer to the internet, and found that my other network adapters all have code 31 issues.

I THINK it is a registry error, but that's as far as I can get. Any help is appreciated. That is an error I have not seen.
Microsoft Community has some information.
Drivers error code 31
The answer given was not definitive. It seems the user and installed drives in some way  that got things mixed up.
In some cases the drives must be installed before the device is CONNECTED.

No. The enclosure is broken, permanently. Given that the fall broke off the USB connector from the board, I wouldn't trust the hard drive long TERM either. Lesson: don't drop hard drives!
I'd try a couple of dabs of expoxy to attempt to hold it in place.  If you get it working, backup the data on that drive as a precautionary measure.  If the drive as not powered on and spinning when it dropped there's a good chance the drive is OK.When I hold it together it does link up, but getting it to stay put is the problem.  My niece STEPPED on the cord and made it fall =\ Quote from: yvonne02ii on June 25, 2014, 01:20:17 PM

The tiny soldered links have been broken; now you have metal surfaces touching and open to the air and condensation; it works right now but even if you glue the thing back on these contacts are going to tarnish and get worse and you will get weird data loss and corruption. The enclosure is JUNK. They cost around $15 - $20. Like I said, if the disk itself got jarred it is probably unreliable. Stop the denial. It's finished.

If the electrical connection has been broken then you need to be able to reflow the solder or the connection will corrode as Salmon Trout said.  My suggestion to use expoxy is only useful if the electrical connection remained in tact but the component was physically disconnected.

As has been suggested, you're probably better off buying a new enclosure. Quote from: strollin on June 25, 2014, 12:20:00 PM

Solve : bluetooth peripheral device?

how do i go about installing a DRIVER
Windows 7 64bitWhat is this device exactly ( make/model )?

Some devices are auto detected and DRIVERS austmatically installed and other TIMES you had a DISC that came with it or need to download and install the driver prior to connecting the device.

Most problems happen when attaching device before reading INSTRUCTIONS in which Windows assumes the driver for the device and assumes wrong, as well as when a device is puchased for a system that is running an OS that is not listed as supported by the device purchased such as a Windows XP computer and a device that requires Vista/7/8 and XP is not listed etc. * But your running 7-64 bit so we will see once we get more info about the device.

The troubleshooter said that it was something wrong with the video CARD driver, and it couldn't fix it. I deleted the amd thing from program files, and tried to install the driver again. Solve : Intel Graphics driver for Pentium D 3.0?

Answer»

Hi team,
after concluding that my motherboard and processor were damaged,  I replaced them with a Intel motherboard and Pentium D 3.0 processor.
I didn't do a clean install to my Windows 8.1 but the PC is running okay for now.

But, the display is not detected to the native resolution. My MONITOR supports to 1080p but at the moment it detects a lower resolution. I cannot find the intel Graphics driver for this..

Help? What motherboard are you using exactly? The integrated chipset could be the 8 or 9 series depending on the age of board with the Pentium D. Chipsets like the Intel 865 and Intel 915 come to mind from years past which had socket 775's.

Knowing the exact motherboard we can assist better. BTW one PROBLEM you could run into is that the chipset drivers may only go to Vista due to the age of the boards. If this is the case then getting a GeForce video card or AMD video card that has support for Windows 8 drivers may be required.

I had an old Pentium 4 2.0 Ghz motherboard from 2002 with the Intel 845 chipset in it and the drivers ended at XP. I installed Windows 7 32-bit to this system to see how well it would work. In order to get the graphics to 1024x768 vs maximum of 640x480, I had to force Windows 7 32-bit to take the Windows XP chipset driver for the display. Windows 8 or 8.1 I dont believe would take a XP or Vista driver unless they are maybe 64-bit drivers. If you are without drivers the best bet is to get a CHEAP video card for this system that supports Windows 8 or 8.1 and use that. Hopefully the motherboard has PCI Express 16x slot available or AGP at minimum to support a better GPU that is compatible with 8.Just wanted to correct for a typo above... Intel 865 and 945 chipsets as for the 915 and the 925 didnt support the Pentium D and only supported Pentium 4I checked with CPU - ID and came to know that my MB is Intel D102GGC2.
I installed Windows 7 and tried the ATI catalyst Driver package but says that it's invalid. Any option that I too could force install the Video driver for Windows 7?

As per the intel site, the VGA driver is for Win XP only.
Your motherboard has a PCI Express 16 x slot. I'd buy a cheap video card that is Windows 7 and 8 ready such as the ATI RADEON HD 5450 with 512MB or 1GB of VRAM.

Otherwise you would have to force the newer OS to run with older driver and this can lead to problems.

Here is a suggested video card that is cheap: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16814102882&cm_re=hd5450_radeon-_-14-102-882-_-Product

My daughters computer is running this same card with Windows 7 64-bit. It also would work with 8.Thanks a lot for the information.
I will check for  a cheap VGA card for this now

Solve : External expansion drive changed place?

Answer»

I have Windows 8 system. My problem is I have two external seagate (2 Tt) expansions connected to my Computer full time (By usb) and one of them has changed its Place from G port (?) to I port. I can Access the data stored but the quick links on my desk dont work anymore. When I try them they SAY insert disc  or searching for program. I opened one program from I instead of desk and it didnt have the memory of previous tasks .  I would like to get  it back to G. What has happened ? Can I fix it ?

Hope that is written clearly enough .
I dont speak Computer fluently. So if anyone has succestions please write like you are talking to a complete idiot. Thanks for reading. This is common when adding other drives such as thumb flash drives or flash cards etc, as well as sometimes Windows on its own decides that one drive comes before the other.

What I would do is shut the comnputer off and unplug these 2 drives. Then boot the system and the drive that you want to be G: plug that one in first, and then the drive that you want to be H or I plug in second, then while the system is running it sticks with the same drive letters.

I find it odd that your drive is skipping H: is there a mapping for H: elsewhere for it not to be G: and H: and instead jumping from G: to I: for both drives?

In the past I had some issues with a CF Card Reader and External Hard Drives moving around on me. To fix this, I told Windows to make the external drives have letters at the opposite side of the alphabet such as Y: and Z: since Windows by default wants to give the next available driver letter in alphabetical order to whatever gets attached next etc. If you are careful you can change the drive letter to be permanently Y: and Z: and this problem should be gone for good.

More info here: http://smallbusiness.chron.com/change-drive-letters-external-hard-drives-windows-8-67525.html

Be sure to be careful not to format the drive or delete the partition as for this will destroy your data. So backup your data to another drive if you can before doing this, although most of the time the external drives data is larger than can be back up copied elsewhere and so you sometimes just need to be careful and take the CHANCE on it.  If you want the drives to retain their drive letter designations then once you have it setup as you like using Dave's method above...go into Disk Management and assign each HDD a Volume Label.
It can be any name you choose and even when flash drives are inserted now the won't re-arrange the drive letters. How do I reboot ? What do I do ? Is there something I should avoid ? Quote

How do I reboot ? What do I do ? Is there something I should avoid ?

Based on the first question you asked, I am curious if you were able to move the drive letters or not on your own yet?

If you are lost, my concern is if there is anyone you know who can assist you with this locally who can read the information that we share with you to FOLLOW the necessary steps to accomplish this fix for you since this may be beyond your computer skill level abilities.

I am hoping that this is not perceived as rude at all, its just that the first question you asked is one that I was really not expecting and places my assumption of your computer skill level at entry level and you may need to have stronger skills to pull off this fix that you need and someone a family member or a friend with more computer experience may be able to run easily with the information that we provide for you.  Hi

I don't find you rude at all.  I would say I have no Computer skills.    My Computer is not set to english so I also have to translate  everything.

I haven't done anything yet. I have just moved some files from the hard drive. Looked aroun if I could see something else that was odd.   Disccontrol (?) says g is there without media. In (analyze and ) optimize  there is a weird   thing.  The normal stuff except g is present but there's also a line : //?Volume(c71a3f8a-... reguires opt.

I have looked at taking this to a professional since my friends are clueless about Computers.  Possibly I will try myself and mess something up more. But more likely I will be careful.  What language are you translating to, as for maybe I can find info that is in your NATIVE language to assist you with this for you to not have to translate. Some translators are poor in translation.

Btw I know some German and Spanish if one of those is your native language. Otherwise I am sure I can find the info you need in your language and share the link here for you. If I can find STEP by step instructions in your language with examples showing where to go, maybe that will work.  I'm Finnnish    Thank You.

Solve : Can't Connect ot Internet after Windows 7 Re-install?

Answer»

I had a problem with my graphics card drivers that made my computer unusable and required a reinstallation of Windows 7. (This is the first time I ATTEMPTED to reinstall the operating system by myself and had no idea what it involved.) After I reinstalled Windows 7 from the disc, I did not have the ability to connect to the internet. It kept asking for a "network adapter" and provided a login screen for my ISP which I have NEVER seen before. After entering the password and account number for my ISP account it continued to ask for a network adapter. I think I need a driver of some kind that allows connection to the internet. I made the mistake of assuming this driver and all other necessary drivers would be included on the operating system disc.

I assume I have to download the drivers from another computer onto a flash drive. I have no idea where to look for these drivers.

Under Other device it should state what devices are currently missing or unable to find certain drives.

For me it was missing Intel Wifi something 6150, So I googled that w/ driver at the end, and the first link was intel's website with the download page to the drive.

Assuming for you it should state " Qualcomm Atheros Wlan Model" or something similar to it. Google that it should give you a direct link to the download page.

Solve : DVD drive shown as CD ROM in Device manager - not working!?

Answer»

Greetings all!

The DVD RW drive on my HP Pavilion dv9700 series (9920us) is not working. PLEASE find the relevant details below:

1. The drive is Model TS-L632N/HPMH - I think this is Toshiba?
2. It's detected in My Computer as HD-DVD ROM.
3. When I try to play a CD/DVD, the light comes on and spins but then shows "Please insert a disk into HD DVD-ROM Drive (F:).
4. The Device Manager detects it as a CD ROM and obviously the Windows generic driver doesn't work. The Device Manager picks it up as an "Unknown Device" and is shown as "NCB XYB09 QNKX SCSI CdRom Drive".

The driver is not available on the HP site, so tried the regedit option. I believe I deleted all the strings associated with the driver key!! Then tried the Microsoft tool, which must have installed the generic driver which causes the DVD drive to be recognised as a CD ROM instead. I tried the sfc /scannow as well and it shows that there are corrupt files, which could not be fixed. The laptop works well otherwise.

Please help! Where can I find the driver for the drive? How can I go about fixing this issue?Did it work at an earlier time?
How old is the drive? Maybe is is worn out.
You can get a cheap external drive for about $25.
Replacement internal drives VARY a lot in price. For a laptop, about $35. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 16, 2014, 11:32:17 AM

It's always worked fine. It's 4 years old but hasn't been used much. I think something happened when I installed itunes and a couple of other programs. Then I deleted the original driver by mistake and here I am.

If there was a problem with the DVD drive, why does Device Manager show it's a CD ROM?Optical drives don't require drivers. What happens when you try to use it?

Here are some things to try:

1. Uninstall the drive through Device Manager.
Restart computer. The drive will be automatically reinstalled.
or…

2. Delete Upper & Lower Filters
 http://support.microsoft.com/kb/982116
Restart computer.
or…

3. Download, and run Restore Missing CD Drive patch
Double click on cdgone.zip to unzip it.
RIGHT click on cdgone.reg, click Merge.
Accept registry merge.
Restart computer.
or…

4. Go to Device Manager, click a "+" sign next to IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers.
You'll see two items:
- ATA Channel0 (or Primary Channel)
- ATA Channel1 (or Secondary Channel)
Right click on each of them, and click Uninstall. Confirm.

Restart Windows. They'll be automatically reinstalled.Hi Allan,
Thanks for the speedy response. I have already tried your first two suggestions without any success. A couple of questions regarding your third and 4th suggestions:

- Where do I download the cdgone.zip file?
- I didn't see any ATA Channels in Device Manager, just two IDE channels - should I uninstall them? You know what? Let's try this first: insert a bootable disc into the drive and reboot (make sure the optical drive is the first device in the bios boot device order). Does the system see the drive at boot? I put a DVD in the drive, restarted the laptop pressing F9 to get to the BIOS setup utility. I then changed the boot order to start with the CD ROM and restarted it. All along, it keeps thinking that it's a CD ROM rather than a DVD RW with Light Scribe.

The laptope started fine, though it took longer. However, the DVD still doesn't work and doesn't even recognise there is a disk in it!! Would dirty lens cause this?Is it a bootable disc?Oops, no it was just a DVD. Therefore if the last disc was a CD it'll report the drive errantly as a CD drive...instead of what it is.

Just one of those quirks.

Windows through to 2000 identified all Optical Disc Drives as Compact Disc or CD-ROM Drives.
Windows XP and Later correctly identify media types (XP) and/or drive types (Vista,7,8). Vista, 7, and 8 all correctly identify a drive as a DVD-RW Drive even with an Audio CD in the drive.

The Drive capabilities used to determine this are part of the built-in Driver. Interestingly, sometimes the Driver stack used for this purpose can become corrupted or otherwise encounter problems.

The Driver stack for the Optical Drive can be refreshed from device manager.

1. Enter Device Manager (Windows Key+R, devmgmt.msc
2. Find the Optical Drive. It will be in DVD/CD-ROM Drives or a similar node of the tree.
3. Right-click and choose Uninstall.
4. Reboot

When the system restarts it will reinstall the default Driver, this time re-writing the configuration entries. This could fix corruption caused by programs like registry cleaners (ironically) or even malware removal.

My only other guess for why this could be happening would be if one of the four lasers had failed. (CD read/write, DVD read/write), if the DVD laser fails for example it might be reporting itself as a CD-ROM drive, though that sort of functionality doesn't seem like something that would generally be added to a device. This is assuming that the OS calls it a CD-ROM drive even at My Computer, where it would (Vista and later) identify the appropriate capabilities as DVD-RW. If it is simply only readong CD-ROM discs than it is definitely what Geek-pm mentioned- a failure of one of the lasers.

So what i've seen happen time and time again is incorrect then ? ?

You need to roll back the driver to fix the problem. I've never seen a Driver update INCREASE the quality of visuals in any game, so you are almost certainly a victim of placebo.

I also question the adequacy of your systems cooling, if you actually need to put it to sleep to prevent it from overheating than you have more serious problems.

Solve : Black screen after windows logo/ starting windows?

Answer»

So far what happens is that when i boot my computer it goes black after the starting windows part. I have tried to uninstall my DISPLAY drivers and then reinstall them. After unistalling them i was able to boot it however after the reinstall the same problem occurred. I have tried this with the previous, current and latest beta driver.
Thanks for the HELP Saw this is 4/22 POST and here it is 5/7, but if your still looking for assistance. What is make/model of computer, and if its a custom build all specs to assist you with this? Also if its an off the shelf computer and you added a video card, what video card are you running?try turning in to safe mode then go to start->run, type in msconfig, and the system configuration window will come up.

First, try clicking on startup and say disable all, then say apply. Try restarting your computer and loading it normally, and see if it lets you get anywhere. If it does, you can go back into msconfig and start enabling startup items again until you find the one that is messing you up.

If that didn't work, try going back into msconfig, keep all the startup items DISABLED, and click on the services tab. check the box saying hide all microsoft services, then click on disable all, and hit apply. Try restarting into Windows normally again, if it works, then again, you have to FIGURE out which service/startup items are affecting your boot up.

If that didn't work either, then you may have a graphics card issue. Where does it stop when you try to load Windows normally?

Solve : please help me find drivers after reformat?

Hi, Please could someone help me find where i can download the network/ethernet drivers for Pentium dual-core CPU E5300 2.6 GHz. I reformatted the C drive but forgot to back up the drivers and ca't seem to find them on the Intel website or elsewhere on the internet. thanks in advance -JJ
They will be at the MBoard manuf. site...
Or if it's a laptop then the laptop's manuf. site.Thank you PATIO, i searched the motherboard manufactures website and downloaded the drivers and chipset for my motherboard Gigayte GA-G31M-ES2L, i ran the setup files and restarted the computer but it didn't work, there are still yellow marks in devise manager, i am quite sure it's the correct chipset, the graphics driver did update but not the ethernet controller and others. Could you please help me with the next step … thank you. JJ
What Windows version ? ?Windows XP,

in Device Manager/Ethernet Controller/details it has this:

PCI VEN_10EC&DEV_8168&SUBSYS_E001458&REV_02 4&3A0400F3&0&00E1

i downloaded what i THOUGHT to be the relative driver from Realtek but when i tried to install it i got the MESSAGE:

Installer can't find Atheros AR81Family ethernet controller on your system.

Maybe i downloaded the wrong driver? You should have DLoaded them from the MBoard manufacturers site...
I'd start over...DLoad and install the MBoard chipset driver 1st...then re-boot then install all other drivers. It worked :-)

I had the wrong network driver, there were 2; Athros and Realtek, the Realtek worked. Took me a while to find it on the Gigabyte website. Then i reinstalled the WIFI driver and now it works too.

thank you for your time and help :-)Anytime...
Glad your fixed up...

Solve : usb ports are disabled, cannot do a backup to reinstall Windows?

Answer»

Is there another WAY to do a backup? all usb  ports disabled , windows will not UPDATE, Microsoft said to backup & uninstall Windows & reinstall.Does you DVD BURNER work?
If so, buy a stack of DVDs and backup to DVD. Read how to do this in the documentation for your backup program.

Another idea. Use a program like Macrium Reflect FREE Edition.
http://www.macrium.com/reflectfree.aspx
I think this program can do backup from a Windows PE boot disk.

EDIT: Ignore the MR program. Instead look at Todo Backup by EaseUS.
http://www.todo-backup.com/products/home/free-backup-software.htm

This program does do backup of Windows partitions from a Linux boot CD. If lyou USB ports are not damaged, it will find your external drive. Otherwise you will have to do a backup on a network shared storage   drive with enough capacity. Meaning you have to have another computer on the local network.

OR
Backup your STUFF to a cloud backup service. Costs money.
http://www.thetop10bestonlinebackup.com/cloud-backup
Sorry, I don't know which is the best choice.

try create a partition on that drive use the partition as the backup drive Quote from: hwrddrn on April 22, 2014, 10:39:49 AM

try create a partition on that drive use the partition as the backup drive

Stop already...

There's more than 1 way to create backups without USB ports but why not repair them 1st ? ?
Open Control Panel...right clik Every instance of USB roots and hubs and select uninstall...you will get a warning...ignore it.
Upon re-boot they will all be re-installed...
If this doesn't work post back for backup solutions...i know there's more that ONE way..what about checking the bios to see if the USB r dissable from there

Solve : iomega back up?

For some reason, I cannot access the window/cell that will activate a back up.  Nor can I now find the window/cell that shows prior back up history.   The drive is showing as recognized and the blue light indicates the device is working.  You can SEE the device when you go to the "computer" screen and it shows how much memory is left but I can no longer see any back up history or the choice to start a back up.  Can you help?
I now have WINDOWS 7, not Windows XP as indicated on the forumWhat type of Iomega drive is this ? ?

Did you install Win7 drivers (if available) for it ?Its a "Select Desktop Hard Drive USB 2.0"
When I BOUGHT the unit three years ago when I bought the computer, I did install the drivers.  It had been working but it just is no longer showing an option to start a backup or the window that shows the prior back ups.   It only shows the backups from 2011Hi

From the description it would seem you are using Iomega backup software, from the text it LOOKS like you used Windows XP backup. Are you looking for the same backup program in Windows 7. If so what version of Windows 7 are you using, in some versions it was included others you need to DOWNLOAD it for free from Microsoft.

Solve : Wacom Intuos + Code 38 (Device Driver Issues)?

Answer»

My Wacom Intuos2 tablet randomly stops working, forcing me to restart the computer to re-enable it.

When I say "stops", I mean not only does it not take input, but the device light goes out. Switching to another USB port does nothing.

When I went into the Device Manager, there's what appears to be the issue tucked into the "Human Interface Devices" section. "USB Input Device" appears there, with the 'alert' icon. Going to "Properties", the error code I'm given is as follows:

Quote

Windows cannot load the device driver for this hardware because a previous instance of the device driver is still in memory. (Code 38)

I can't even roll back to a previous, functional device driver SINCE it's still running the initial version. (Nor does hitting "update" offer a solution, though admittedly I didn't really have high hopes for the automatic driver updater that came bundled with Windows 7.)

I understand that from a functionality standpoint, I have a solution (to simply restart the computer) but that's relatively time-consuming for me, since I have references laid out, music queued up, etc. when I'm working on an IMAGE, and it's quite frustrating to set everything up repeatedly.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix this error without resorting to a complete reboot?

EDIT: Strong radiation files can make the tablet stop working. Do you have Bluetooth or Wi-Fi devices within two meters of the ttablet?

I don't, unless you count the computer's built-in WiFi. I actually accidentally figured out about potential signal interference once when I had my tablet too close to another, larger Wacom tablet -- I was worried that it was the cable, until I moved far enough away from the secondary tablet and everything suddenly started working. (At which point, I did some testing and figured out -- yeah, the bigger tablet was something I had to keep out of range if I wanted everything to function.)

My particular laptop doesn't have Bluetooth, either. (Which is a shame, because the biggest problem people report with this computer is generally the sound system -- which is quiet and sort of tinny. And Bluetooth speakers are very convenient, but alas! It is not to be.)

The Wacom manual is pretty cool, but (given when the product came out) rather out of date. Pages 48 & 96 are the closest it comes to talking about actual connectivity problems, but it's for... when Windows XP was new? (I used to use a Graphire, and the guides were ANCIENT. I patched them as much as I could, until even fan-made patches petered out because people apparently just weren't using them in conjunction with shiny new systems.)

Because of how long I held onto my (ancient) Graphire, I am aware at least that the Wacom support can be pretty awesome -- but I'm not sure if it's actually the Wacom's fault? (I'd feel better about using the contact info on page 113, otherwise.) Pages 114 & 121 have some of the tests I'd already known about -- which is to say, it mentions checking to be sure that the light is on. (And it isn't. The USB port isn't even powering it.)

The new driver didn't cause problems with my old laptop, either. (Unfortunately, that computer is... cranky, and not fun to work on. The tablet will function, but very little else.) I've had to swap out drivers to older versions before (see: "weird person who used Graphire tablet for far, far too long") but in this case, everything functions -- except for when it stops.

Trying it on another computer for an hour? I've done that, but honestly, I'd rather use this laptop, provided I can fix the issue. (My old laptop has a problem with overheating and dying horribly. Other computers are DESKTOP PCs, which are currently configured for maximum comfort of their main users, which means I'd have to fiddle with the chair and the desk and the angle of the keyboard enough that restarting this computer indefinitely starts to look like the better option.)

Also, the tablet is old. I have more than one (same generation, obviously) Intuos2 tablets, and it appears to not be tablet-specific. (I checked.)

I'll boot in safe mode and check it out, next, I guess? And if that doesn't pan out, I'll give up and try contacting Wacom, maybe.

Thanks for your time and advice; I appreciate it.OK. You have done as much as I could think of.
If the Desktop PC never has this issue, then it must be specific to the laptop.

The Wacom tablets very, very good for professional use. So likely  Wacom would fix any problem with the drivers.

Don't be sorry! I really appreciate having someone else offer suggestions, since I'm flying mostly blind here. (I don't understand how drivers work, exactly, so I'm just trying whatever comes to mind.) Thank you very much for taking the time to consider my problem, and also to look into it. (Which -- I assume you did, if you had a link to the manual, and also figured out the potential issue with interference?)

Your advice to contact Wacom seems sound. I may end up doing just that.

Oh dear! I already contacted them, and I hadn't included that. On the other hand, there's a limit on the number of characters (512, I think?) so I am not sure I could've fit that query in while still clearly explaining the problem. If I have the chance to ask at a later point, I will try and do so. May I ask why? (I know that the USB port still works when powering other, non-tablet devices, having used my brother's MP3 player to double check this.)

Doesn't look like there's anything stopping it sleeping from that report - you just have USB device suspension disabled which shouldn't cause an issue, I have that disabled and my system goes to sleep if I want it to.

Is there any pattern to when it refuses to sleep?  E.g. do you have a certain program open, or is it after doing something specific?E-mail app phoning HOME...

Hi, I have 2 USB 3.0 ports on my laptop (specs below). When I start the computer after a hybrid shutdown and connect my Seagate Expansion portable hard drive,  I get a message in PC settings which says "Device can perform faster when connected to USB 3.0 port" However if I restart my computer and reconnect it, it says "Connected to USB 3.0" I checked this a lot of times and the same thing happens every time, which leads me to wonder if some driver doesn't load during normal boot but loads during restart. I re-installed chipset software and EVERYTHING under USB controllers in device manager (Intel USB 3.0 eXtensible host controller etc.) but it doesn't work. Could anyone help me in solving this issue so that I needn't restart every time? Many thanks

In you r case it does work, jut not all the time.
Which is better than hardly ever work.
USB 3.0 pushes the envelope way bey hound what Engineers thought could be done. The central issue is about how much data can you shove down a short wire. The solution is to use  only the very best cable that is for USB 3.0 application.

On course, yu need to tell the maker of your machine about this. Likely they already know and may have a work around already.

What happens if you plug the drive in before you power up ? ?
It still shows the "Device can perform faster" message if I connect before start-up. On the other hand, Intel on their support site mentioned that they won't make USB 3.0 drivers for Windows 8, and that it was being handled by MICROSOFT. The Intel USB 3.0 driver for Win 7 works flawlessly, but it can't be installed on Win 8 (gives an incompatible OS error). So the problem is with Win 8, right?Did you try removing the previously installed USB device then LETTING it reinstall the generic drivers when next connected? You can use USBDeview http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/usb_devices_view.html then just right-click the Seagate product software then select uninstall. Thanks for the reply. I tried uninstalling it, but it still shows the same message. Can you check for any available BIOS updates at Lenovo support site?

During the update it also asked me to install 'AMD Catalyst Control CENTER', while CCC was installing my screen resolution got smaller (The best way I can describe this is, the screen was no LONGER going to the edges of my monitor, it had a small 2cm black box around the screen separating my screen and monitor)

I assumed that these black boxes WOULD only be here during the installation process of CCC. After CCC had finished installing it asked me to restart my computer and that it would take a bit longer than usual due to the new drivers. Upon restarting and finally getting back to my desktop screen it was apparent that the black boxes were still there. I quickly headed to my screen resolution settings and noticed that nothing had changed as it still stated i was on 1920x1080 (my normal Res) so I decided to lower my resolution to 1776 x 1000 and then revert back to 1920x1080. This fixed the problem and the black boxes were gone and everything seemed normal. I then proceeded to start up my usual games and quickly noticed that upon tabbing out/Minimizing a full screened game, the game would no longer re maximize, the icon of the game is still on the 'Task Bar' but as I CLICK it, nothing happens, it will not reopen even though I am still able to hear game sounds running.

Every-time I restart my computer the black boxes reappear until I go into the resolution settings and scale my resolution down and then revert back.

I had a search online as to why these black boxes are appearing and to why when I minimize games I can no longer maximize them back. a few people online said that this issue is because of the driver updates and there is a quick FIX to this buy going into the catalyst control center and selecting the resolution I am using, But the issue with this is CCC will not open, I click it in my start menu and nothing happened, I've even waited several hours for it to maybe open, but nothing.

Please can anyone help me out here, this issue is seriously bugging me as I don't want to have to always change my resolution upon start up and I need to ability to minimize/maximize games.

Thank you

Un-install the Catylyst software and reboot...if necessary re-install the original drivers from the CD that the card shipped with.

Solve : Video card not recognized after clean driver re-install - Any help appreciated!?

Hello all, first of all, thank you for taking the time to read my post.  I am not very well versed with this sort of thing, so I apologize for my ignorance.  If I have left out any important information please let me know and I will do my best to provide it.

A little background on the problem:

I have had my lil' OLD acer ASPIRE m5200 for ~five years now.  Two years ago I upgraded from the built-in vga graphics card to a Geforce GTX 550 TI. I purchased a 600w power supply to go with that, and had it installed professionally, (since I don't trust myself.)  It ran without any major problems until this January, when I upgraded my video driver to one that came bundled with the Nvidia Geforce Experience. The installation of that driver was a bit wonky, since Windows Update decided to run right in the middle of the installation.  At the time, I thought nothing of it, but in hindsight, and after some searching apparently that has been known to cause corrupted driver issues.
My computer began black screening, only for a second or two, every few minutes.  (I assumed my eight year old monitor was finally giving out.)  A new monitor didn't solve the issue, however, and things started getting worse.  While playing any game more demanding than minesweeper my computer started shutting down, black screen, no warning, as if it had been unplugged.  This didn't leave me with many clues, but luckily a couple of the crashes  allowed for a blue screen (no idea why sometimes it black screens and sometimes it blue screens...), which said that the display adapter had stopped working.  I decided to try rolling back to an older driver, but the problem persisted.  I did some research and began to suspect a corrupted driver, or faulty installation.  With that in mind, I uninstalled everything from Nvidia, booted up in safe mode, and ran driver sweeper. I then rebooted with the intent of re-installing my drivers from scratch.
That's when things got rather odd.

As it stands right now...
My gtx 550 is no longer being recognized by my computer.  When I go to device manager, the only display adapter it lists is my standard vga graphics adapter which should no longer be functional as I don't even have a vga cable connected to it, (I assume that means I am still running off of my gtx550, with limited functionality due to the lack of drivers.)  I hoped that installing the correct nvidia driver would allow the computer to 'see' the card, but the nvidia installer gets to terms and conditions, and then disappears.  The nvidia installer shows up in my processes tab when I ctrl-alt-delete, but does not show up as an application, nor does anything pop up.
I have heard legends that perhaps updating my chipset/bios will solve this issue, but these legends come with dire warnings and quite frankly I feel like I'm in over my head here. I am concerned I somehow caused damage, possibly by running the driver sweeper.  I thought I followed the instructions to a tee, but now I'm worried I may have deleted my nvidia chipset as well as the drivers, but when I run dxdiag it lists my chip as Nvidia, so basically, I have no idea what I've done wrong.  I called NCIX (they installed the graphics card for me, so I hoped they might have suggestions.) They suggested updating the bios as well, but I'm not sure how much I trust that advice as he didn't ask for my system specs or anything and I'm worried he did not have the complete picture.  He also did not sound very confident there was anything I could do about it, and said "it's that or it's a hardware issue." Leaving me feeling like he was just as uncertain as I.  Rather than try to dl a bios update that might render my computer a paperweight, I figured I had better get some advice.

Here is my dxdiag info, not really sure what else is relevant, I also have a report from cpu-z if that is helpful let me know and I'll add it as well.  Before doing all of this I ran malware bytes, (and removed search protect by conduit after some figuring,) I use windows defender and firewall, and as far as I can tell my computer is in decent shape aside from the driver issues.

Thanks in advance for any help or insight into this situation, I've never really had to tackle this kind of repair before.

To any with similar issues: I physically removed the PNY geforce video card and plugged back in the vga cable to my built-in card.  My computer works just fine on the old card, no issues, and I was able to update those drivers no problem.  It SEEMS the issue lies with the card itself, based on advice I received in the chat here.  I will TEST the card in another rig when I get a chance, but it looks like the card has been permanently damaged, don't know if that was from the bad driver install or what, but I'm writing it off unless the test proves it's still functional, (though I doubt it).  To anyone with this issue, DO NOT UPDATE YOUR BIOS before checking to see if the card is functional in another computer, it isn't worth the risk.
Thanks for reading!IMHO ...i'm not convinced it's the card gone South...
Here's what i would try::

Since the card is out of the PC remove any Nvidia software from Add/Remove programs...
Also check Device Manager for any references to the card...right clik and select Un-install.
2nd Remove Driver Sweeper same as above...it's garbage...
3rd Do a few re-boots.
Then re-install the card...power up...and when it asks insert the Original driver CD that shipped with the card...run setup then
re-boot afterwards....if you're lucky i bet everything will be fine....
BTW ...I'd also take the time to clean out the fan assembly on the card with a can of compressed air...use a Q-Tio to hold the fan blades stationary when doing so...
Bring us good news.HAHAHAHAHAhahaha*laughter turns into uncontrollable weeping*.
Ok.  Let me just update everyone in case some of sad sap it having a similar issue.  Tested v-card in another rig just out of curiosity.  It worked.  I had already written it off at this point and had a new computer custom built because I figured, if the card had gone it was only a matter of time before the motherboard would follow, it was pretty old, afterall.
I was very confused by the fact the card worked in my bf's computer, I mean, I had tested different monitors, and all signs seemed to point to a software issue.   Suddenly a light bulb went off in my head.  The black screening/crashing happens only when a using dvi cable.  It occurred to me I had never tried a different cable!  My cable was only a few months old and I didn't fathom it would fail so soon let alone fail so spectacularly that I would be getting blue screens because of it, but low and behold, tried a new chord and the stupid thing works fine.  REALLY!?  HOW... OMG... I can't even...
I already accepted that my old computer was going to be for word processing (I am a writer so I like to have one 'work computer' and one for gaming, so I am happy to retire the old Acer to the office.) since the new hotness arrived today.
I tested the old chord with the new rig and monitor, and yup, that was the cause of the black screen issue all along.  So it was never the driver's fault, and I suspect that the driver sweeper was the cause of all the problems after that, with not being able to recognize the card.  I took patio's advice and completely reinstalled using the original driver disks and whatdya know, it works fine too with a new dvi.
I feel like a fool, but it served as the catalyst for finally upgrading so I suppose it wasn't such a bad thing after all.  Just in time for ESO!  Thanks for all the help, can't believe it was something so simple!

Solve : toshiba satellite m45-s165 wont connect wirelessly?

Answer»

I had contracted a virus on this machine.  Its running win xp sp2.  After reloading the operating system and the drivers from the toshiba site,  I found out that the computer does not connect wirelessly to my netgear router, which is a wireless router.  I downloaded all the wifi drivers from that site (there are 4) but none of them seem to work.  My computer can see the router, but when I try to connect by putting in the password, I get a message 'The network password needs to be 40bits or 104bits depending on your network configuration....'  how can i fix this
You MAY need to install XP SP3 in order to be able to use the security protocol your ROUTE is using.Strollin,
Ya that was my initial guess.  But this laptop had windows xp sp2 before I reloaded the OS and it was CONNECTING to the internet just FINE

Anyways, just to see if the sp3 fix would solve this internet connectivity issue, I installed sp3 but still no go

Any other tips?
Look for a WLAN driver at the Toshiba site...if there is one DLoad and re-install it...
Also while there look and see if the laptop has an on/off switch for the wireless...many models do.Did you try rebooting the router?  You'd be surprised at how often that fixes connection issues.  Even if other devices can connect fine.patio: I did go to the toshiba website, and I tried all the wifi drivers listed for my model laptop, but nothing seems to connect the laptop wirelessly.

strollin: I have rebooted the modem and router thinking that that would solve the issue , but I still dont get connectivity.

How do I find out what driver I need so I can download it from pcidatabse?  Theres something like going to device manager, clicking on the device and then looking at some details but i dont remember all the steps.  Also, would device manger list a device even if a driver for it is not present, or does it just list all the devices regardless of whether a driver is installed or not?
Why insist on going to pcidatabase for drivers ? ?
Laptop drivers should always come direct from the laptop manuf. site...
Post the complete Model # and we can assist in the search...patio:

its a toshiba satellite m45-s165.
Let me know what to do
I GOT it to work.  The computer was looking for the wrong encryption type when trying to connect.

Solve : Computer freezes with installed graphics card drivers, not without?

Answer»

Title.

I get both freezes where the screen turns black, my monitor goes on standby and there's a couple of seconds of buzzing coming through my headphones and freezes where the screen turns still. In both cases I get no error messages WHATSOEVER and my only option is to manually shut down my PC with the power button or reboot it with the reboot button. Finally, I sometimes also but much less frequently get the message that the AMD display driver has stopped responding and has recovered, where I get a few seconds of unresponsiveness but it comes back up after a while.

I previously thought the issue was lying in certain Microsoft/Windows services, specifically  Superfetch and Windows Image Acquisition, as I didn't get the freezes for a couple of days with them disabled on startup, but the freezes came back after a while nonetheless.

I tried to remove the drivers in the DEVICE Manager and I haven't had a freeze until now, but as I like to game and use Netflix and the likes, I feel like using my actual graphic card's drivers would be optimal for displaying performances, so I'd like to find the root of my issue. I don't seem to get the freezes when using the standard VGA graphics/monitor.

It might have something to do with the voltage of some of my HARDWARE, but I'm not at all accustomed to making changes with stuff like that, so I might need some guidance if that's a possible solution.

I think I've downloaded every driver and driver update for the rest of my hardware using drivers supplied by the manufacturers and their websites respectively, so I doubt it's related to out of date drivers, although it could be some sort of hardware/driver conflict between my graphics card and any other device, who knows.

Here's my specs:
- Windows 7 Home Premium 64-bit SP1
- AMD FX-6300, Vishera 32nm Technology
- 4,00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 799MHz
- MSI 970A-G43 (MS-7693) (CPU 1)
- Standard Monitor (otherwise Club3D Radeon R7 260X royalKing Vapor with drivers installed)
- 931GB Seagate ST1000DM003-1CH162 ATA Device (SATA)
- HL-DT-ST DVDRAM GH24NSB0 ATA Device
- Realtek High Definition Audio

Thanks in advance. Was this a working system you added the card to, or is it a new build? It's a new build.

I should note that I've ran Memtest86+ a couple of times, so I think RAM is also excludable as a cause. I'd put this in the first post but I can't find the edit function.Edit is disabled after the post has been up a while, so putting the info in a new post is fine

Which AMD driver versions have you tried so far?  Is there any pattern to the freezes, for example do they happen only when (or are they more frequent when) running Flash video or web browsers, or anything like that?  It could be worth disabling hardware acceleration in Flash and your browser(s) to see if this helps at all.So far it can generally happen at any time I'm actively using my PC for around 20 minutes, but most frequently when I'm running things in full screen, like videos, be it in Chrome or in VLC, or video games, but I've also had it happen when I was just writing a post or looking around the services.

I've tried a couple of different ones, but none of them to even install for me except the most recent 13.11 Beta 9.4 version.

I turned on OC Genie II in my BIOS purely out of curiosity, and I haven't had any of the irrecoverable freezes for a few hours now, but I did still get the AMD display driver crash which recovers after about half a minute, but FORCES me to reboot anything utilizing my GPU for rendering which is annoying.Yeah, that figures with it being almost a brand new card (well, in name & device ID anyway).
I don't see a PSU listed in your specs, what make & model of PSU are you using?
Could also be worth trying the card in a different physical PCI-E slot, shouldn't make any difference but it's worth a quick try.My PSU is a Sharkoon WPM 500W.

I could try that out over the weekend when I have access to all of my tools (I live on campus and my strap and screwdrivers, etc. are all back home). Is there anything else I could try out in the meantime? If you have a different PCI-E connector on that unit, try that - again, it shouldn't make a difference, but it's worth a try.
In a case like this where you have a brand new card malfunctioning, on a brand new system, with the crashes seemingly related to the card alone - you have LIMITED options really.  Different drivers aren't an option as the 260X is new (as I said, in terms of its name and device ID although it's basically a 7790), so other than trying a different slot or PSU conenctor, I can't really suggest much else other than returning the card.Even though I have an additional PCIe slot on my motherboard, I can't switch it since the connectors for my hard drive are in the way and my wireless network card is occupying the slot.

I also checked the event manager and when I got screen resets, it showed error ID 4101 and that "amdkmdap had stopped responding and has recovered", and when I got complete freezes it showed error ID 41, which was kernel-power related. Could it be a combination of the AMD driver malfunctioning in combination with an error with my kernel, or just an AMD driver issue?Kernel power event 41 just indicates the machine hasn't shut down properly, you'll often see the same event after a power cut or if you pull the plug.  It doesn't refer to the OS kernel in this case.
You're basically dealing with a graphics card not functioning correctly, as I said this can be down to the card itself, the PCI-E slot, PSU or connectors, or the driver.  There's very little you can rule out with there being no other drivers available, and the slot and power cables are outside chances at best, so I do suspect your card needs replacing.Alright. Would you suggest I replace my current card with the same model or a different one? It's entirely up to you, if that card matches your requirements then by all means just RMA it for a replacement, if you'd prefer something different then RMA it for a refund or credit and get something else.
I can't comment on the overall reliability of the 260X as it's too new for any meaningful stats, so if you were asking due to reliability nobody can really answer that yet.Alright, thanks. I'll just get a replacement for the same GPU then.I tried reseating everything and got one regular AMD display driver crash into a recovery, then an hour later I got an actual BSoD for the first time that created a mini dump. Does this change my situation at all? Are there solutions for this?
