Hope I have the right forum for this question, if not can someone please direct me to the proper place?

I am the Owner/Admin of a small intimate trivia Group page on Facebook.  I have 3 other Admins that help me make up the questions and answers for our group.  I made up a template for everyone to use when making up questions.  All anyone has to do is add the question to the graphic and post the graphic to the page when needed.

I have required that everyone use the same font and font pts for the 2 main areas of text.  The font is to be Titania MF at 16 pt for the questions/answers and Titania MF 8 pt for the author's name and date. 

Myself and 2 other Admins...no problem.  Everything looks find and I have no problems.

ONE Admin is having some trouble and I don't know where else to look for an answer.  She is making the graphic using the text and fonts specified.  But when she uploads them to the Admin Practice page that I set up to train new admins in, her graphics are showing a LOT SMALLER. 

Her entire graphic shows smaller, including the banner.  I thought maybe it might have been some kind of change between 8 and 8.1 but that doesn't seem to be the case.  Then I thought maybe it was the resolution on her computer was smaller, but nope.  Not it.  Then I thought maybe it was because she uses Firefox and everyone else uses Chrome....again, Nope.  I downloaded Firefox and tested it.  The ones I made are fine. 

I'm at a loss.  I will try to upload an image of the two different graphics so you can see what I mean but being new to the forum I'm not sure if I can.  But I will try.

smh...I messed up. Wanted to upload 2 of the exact same graphics with the exact same wording but got a little trigger happy I guess.  But it still shows the difference.  The top graphic is what my Admin made the bottom is the one I made.

I've just opened them both and the image properties on the image with much smaller text is seemingly corrupted. Whereas your image is a standard 72 ppi image, the "broken" image reports it is a 1x1 in units of "1" which doesn't seem to make any sense.We are both using microsoft Paint.  I made the template with paint and all editing is done with paint.

Are you saying that the template itself might be corrupt? Or some other cause?

I am going to try having her delete the template and emailing her another one.  Hope this takes care of the problem.

If it works I'll let you know as soon as I know.  If not I'll bug you some more.  How's that?  LOL

I added the imap account using its standard settings and although the folders are all up to date, the inbox and SENT only show emails up until 2011. Inbox seems to show around 200 only, sent around 140 only.

So here are my harddrives, the C disk is the SSD and the E disk is my HDD. The F is my reset to factory SETTINGS drive and I don't know why disk D is there so I just gave it a name.
Since my E drive has soo much space, I want to make it so ONLY the Steam folder is in the SSD (and other VIDEO games and other super necessary files). How do I MOVE every other folder to my HDD without breaking my COMPUTER? (It's like 90GB of stuff I want to move)

I'm trying to create a FORMULA that gives the result of the number of cells in a row that contain text. For example if I have four cells in a row and three contain text the result WOULD be 75%, if I have seven cells in a row and four have text the result would be 57%.

I am looking for a tool that will let me install updates on to remote machines. I work in a small computer group as a admin. We run monthly scans for out of date patches for 3rd party software. Things like Adobe reader and flash as well as Java.

One quick and dirty option that springs to mind is www.ninite.com - they do a paid version for $20/month that should work for a small amount of machines, but the free version could work if you had it start up when the machines boot, not the most elegant solution but it'll quickly download and install the latest versions of Adobe Reader, Java, etc, just not Flash.  The paid pro version lets you install things remotely, I haven't however tried this myself so can't speak from PERSONAL experience - I've only used the free version to save time when reinstalling family & friend's PCs.
There are several other options available if Ninite doesn't fit your needs, it just depends what your exact setup is (e.g. domain or workgroup), how much automation is required, how much time you have to INVEST in this, and what your BUDGET is.Thanks...I will take a look at it. I work in a small domain. The ideal setup would be to be able to push out a set of patches at night when the users are not logged in.

I know Ninite Pro can be scheduled so that may work, if the PCs aren't left on then you'd obviously need to do something like have them all go to sleep at the end of the day and then schedule a wake-up timer.
We were looking into trying out Ninite Pro at work but we WENT down the SCCM route - obviously a truck-load more expensive but worth it in our case for the approx 350 machines we manage as it does so much more than software installs, although that's one of the most visible benefits, and we needed the additional manageability, if that's a word, which SCCM provides.

With Windows XP the backup utility is very old, dusty  and moldy
With newer versions of Windows it is somewhat better.

Have you run error-checking on your hard DRIVE? If you havent, I'd start there first. Its as simple as right-clicking on your hard drive going to Properties, then selecting Tools Tab, and then Check Now. It may tell you that it will check on the NEXT startup, and agree with this and then reboot your computer and LET it go through the error checking of the CHECKDISK process. If the drive is healthy it will get through this pretty quickly. If it finds problems it will try to fix the problems.

I have seen this happen before with a drive that has its file tables messed up so hoping this will be the fix for you.hi dave, I have not done this, can you let me know how , where do I go to start with?
Go to your Hard Drive at My Computer and select C: drive, "assuming the data is located on the C: drive and no other drives are present where the data is located". With the drive selected perform the following:

 Its as simple as right-clicking on your hard drive
 going to Properties,
 then selecting Tools Tab,
 and then Check Now.


The system may report that this will be completed on the next boot. Agree to this and reboot computer. When computer boots do not make any selections to any messages, let the system run the queued process in the boot instruction which you be a checkdisk process which it will run on its own. When it is done it will bring you to logon screen or automatically logon if you don't have a password protected system. During the process you will see it go through 5 steps. It may show info scrolling if it finds problems and tries to correct for the problems. If it reports any bad sectors then your drive is ill and we can go from there if you state you have that problem.It could be also the file association got wonked...right clik one of them and see what app wants to open it by default...

 I am having a bit of an issue. I am trying to log on to a site for my University, and it USES Java. The site kept telling me that Java was not enabled, so I checked my internet browser. It was enabled. So I checked to see if there were any java updates, there was, so I clicked to update. It was doing fine, then stalled. So, I uninstalled Java, re-booted, and tried to re-install it. It downloaded, but INSTEAD of the installer POPPING up, I would get this message:

Also, I have been having a lot of pop ups from Java saying I should update lately, but I wasn't able to at that time because I wasn't around internet.Java setup which you have downloaded is not properly downloaded that's y windows is not able to find out the type of software and asking how would you like to open.
Go to the Java websites directly through your browser and download a fresh copy then after you will be able to install your new java.
After installing you need to open browser and enable or add extension of Java with your browser.
If it is showing security error, go to java and disable security.

Thanks everyone.Revo Uninstaller (passive mode) is a must have on all of my systems and has been for many years. I also use and like Auto Hot Key.  I've never used Launchy but from what I hear it's fine. And unless you RUN an app "resident" (MEANING it's always active, such as your anti-virus app), it will have zero effect on system performance. And even then, unless there are a bunch of them it shouldn't be noticeable given the power of today's cpu's and the amount of ram most folks install.

Hello, (this is my first post here, I'll try to be as detailed as possible, and hopefully I'll be rewarded with help)
I am undergoing a tidy-up of the software on my pc and came across a program I inadvertently installed a while ago called PLDS SmartPack Utility. It is of no use to me at all and TRIED uninstalling it, only to find it doesn't show up in the Uninstall window in the control panel. So after visiting a few forums I atempted to manually uninstall it, by deleting as many files as possible and all the appropriate registry entries.
This is where it gets tricky, as the application itself (located in the C:/ProgramFilesx86/SmartPack folder) is the only thing stubbornly remaining. When I try to delete it, it SAYS it is running in SmartPack Utility. Running in itself. Now that can't be right. I checked the processes and application in Task Manager to see if it was in fact running, but it wasn't.
I tried MaxUninstaller which was pants, as it turned out to require a paid subscription to actually uninstall the program that I had to point it out to. And where's the guarantee that it wouldn't give exactly the same error message as when I try to delete it within the windows explorer?
Other forum threads detailing similar problems do not mention this resilient aspect of the program, which led me to believe it was harmful. A run of Malwarebytes anti-malware and a scan of the application with avast! say that it is safe, so apparently it's just SITTING on my hard drive with no purpose, malicious or otherwise. It's worth mentioning that this application has been installed for ages and has never shown up as a threat, and i've swapped between quite a few free antiviruses in my pc's lifetime. Not the most pressing of matters, but a very annoying one.
If there is a surefire way of getting rid of this program, without paying for a program I will only use once or twice POSSIBLY, I WOULD very much appreciate anyone's help.I should mention, I'm running windows 7 professional.How do you unintentionally install a program ? And unless you know your way around the registry you really shouldn't have messed around in it.

Alternatively, you can try System Restore and see if there is a restore point prior to the date you installed the program.Can you update us on the status of this?  Curious to know whether you were able to "completely" get rid of it.   And, if so, how?  I read in another forum that Revo Uninstaller would not remove it.

How to make a Video CD-Rom (mp4 format) self-starting auto-run when just inserting the CD into the CD Drive without going to "my computer > CD Drive > DOUBLE Click on the video file." I had one Video CD can auto-start running in any computer, that can SAVE a lot of time.

JohnPeople have different media players. And these COULD be located in different places.

Windows has a preset for how to HANDLE DVDs and CDs.
However, a video CD is a  strange format  and not supported.

Besides, if you could FORCE the system to auto play anything, it becomes a security issue.

Was wondering if anyone had any suggestions of any database tools that are helpful in performing clean up operations and pointing out any trouble areas for databases that are MySQL based?   His database is running on MySQL 5.1.73 btw.

Currently I am working with a database that this one client has in which there is some corruption and I have been looking at the error logs and then manually going in and correcting the problems, but it seems like as many problems that I solve more seem to show up.

The type of problems have been missing entries or entries that are incorrect for the datatype etc. It all started when his server started to act up and finally crashed. The server had a bad RAM stick and it seems as the bad memory stick caused the MySQL database to corrupt randomly as it was running unhealthy.

He didn't want to have to pay to have it serviced and so he kept just rebooting it when it was down and it would come BACK up and run some more until the next crash.

When it was no longer just a forced shutdown and reboot but reports started showing problems he then contacted me. Going through it its a BIG MESS. And I thought maybe I should post this on CH to see if anyone has any tools that work well with  MySQL to pinpoint and correct for problems.

Currently I am using SQLyog to go into the database tables with a NICE GUI vs manually doing it all from MySQL command shell interface.

At one point I was thinking it might be easier to just export the data from the newest database that is corrupt for data entered after the last backup, and then join the latest data to a restored old backup and then only have to work on correcting the newest of data, but I found out that this client wasn't performing regular backups, and the last backup was performed about 5 months ago at the turn of the new year when he thought it might be a good idea to backup his database.

Installed new RAM into his server and so the server is ready to go now, but the database is in need of some help before it goes live again. The good thing is that the importance of this database is only used on weekends when him and his friends work their 2nd job together on the side, so I have until Friday to clean this up and try some tools against a replicated copy of the database to see if the tools aid in fixing the mess without touching the master database and making matters worse if a tool decides to eat the database etc.

MySQL comes with MySQL workbench. Though it's been so long since I've used it, all I remember is that it's more reliable than the postgres pgadmin tool.

You are probably looking at correcting it manually.

What kind of errors, specifically? are constraints being violated, or does the database itself actually refuse to launch?

Furthermore, even if you get the database to be consistent, that doesn't mean it is accurate. The entire thing, I'd say, cannot be trusted to be accurate because pretty much anything loaded into the bad RAM will be questionable, which can include numerous internal data structures that got written to disk. While there might be tools that could repair the database structure itself, that doesn't mean the database will work with whatever it is designed for. By way of example a few months ago we accidentally delivered a early development version of a program. It was only in use for a day before we noticed and we were able to deploy the proper version to the affected sites, but because the testing version had a known issue involving rounding we had to go through and verify every single invoice that was created on those days. What I mean is, in those cases, all the database information was completely valid and worked fine, it was the data itself that was corrupted. In the case you mentioned, even if you can coax the data itself into a form that prevents constraints from being violated, that doesn't mean the data itself is still any good. If the actual structures were corrupted I'd be surprised if the actual data itself wasn't affected, especially if a lot of the contents are corrupted and violating constraints.Hello BC ... I agree that the data could be wrong where say a value was changed from 109.99 to 51.00 and as a dollar amount unless you know what was sold to determine if the figure is correct it could get skipped and skew reports and balances etc.

I suggested to the guys that they should start fresh with a new clean database for new entries and for looking up old info in the old database just to be cautious that the info returned may be incorrect.

I did a folder search 2 days ago to find an EMAIL - not having done it before - I searched Older Than One Week - didn't find what I was looking for - thought no more of it.....

Today I am looking in my FOLDERS for something and find an important folder with only the LAST weeks emails in it...and there should be 2 months of emails in there.

All my other folders seem ok - and I don't KNOW how to retrieve or find these lost emails.  I have NOT deleted them . .  they were there yesterday and today only the last weeks is there.

I am running Windows 7, MS Office 2010 - I appreciate any help to get my emails back to normal please.

Within a Windows domain, USERS have access to a specific .mpp project FILE and update notes on a DAILY basis to it. Last week, from a period of one day to another, the notes within the cells of the .mpp file have disappeared. The icon next to the cell where notes would normally be shown is still there however. Is there any possibility that the file may have gotten corrupted? That being said,  can it be repaired like an Outlook .pst file?
I would try manual solution below or paid software Project Repair Toolbox https://www.repairtoolbox.com/projectrepair.html in case first variant doesn't work or you have SEVERE corruption of .mpp file.

Re-create a whole NEW file from the corrupted/bloated file:

1. Open a new blank project file
2. Go to Insert/Project and insert the problem file.
3. Select the first task which will be the insertion point summary line.
4. Go to Project/Task Information/Advanced tab.
5. Uncheck the "Link to Project" button and hit "OK".
6. If the file isn't already expanded, expand it.
7. Select all tasks below the top level summary line.
8. Out dent the selected tasks.
9. Delete the first task which previously was a summary line.
10. Save the resulting file.

Is there any software that is entirely your taskbar that is full screen. Like, your reading this right now, so look at the top of the window and see how its clear? Is there any program that is like that covers the entire window? I thought it looked cool and would like one.

The effect itself is achieved using dwmBlurBehindWindow and dwmExtendIntoClientArea. I wasn't able to get the latter working here which is why a border is still visible.

The things I read say 32/64 bit (eg http://www.gnu-pascal.de/gpc/h-index.html -> "GNU Pascal, the free 32/64-bit Pascal compiler!") but when I look (eg in the 'about') I don't see W7....nor 64 bit anywhere  (that doesn't mean it isn't there, but it's not in idiot-speak)...native 64-bit compiler...blah,blah..

Maybe it would be more helpful if I moved to Linux ?

There are ready-made binaries of GPC available here. You'll want the "WIN32 GUI self-extracting installer".

It doesn't mention anything about Windows 7 because the project has been ABANDONED as far as I can tell. The latest builds are from 2007, which is before Win7 even released. The Windows  build/setup will likely work on Windows 7.

Another Pascal project worth considering is FreePascal. It lists what it is compatible with in the introductory paragraph, and it is a long list. You would want this file to install it.

I've looked at freePascal, but getting that to work in 64-bit mode seems complicated (at least for someone of my limited capabilities), but I've downloaded the 32-bit setup exe and I'm going to give that a try.

I've got TP7 sort of working in DOSbox under W7, but I don't see the output screen, and the IDE is hard to read compared with what I remember from TP5.5 on Windows NT (or was it just DOS ?)

When viewing a PDF file, in ADOBE Reader, under the EDIT dropdown, there is a SNAPSHOT function. Once you click this function, you can then "box" an area, with a blue haze, and take a SNAPSHOT.

A friend asked me to make some format changes in his DOC but when I look in Page Layout View/one-page & two-page, they don't appear to be the same page size.

I am formatting my desktop with windows7. After complete installation and after reboot it is saying that "File is possibly corrupted. The file header checksum does not match the computed checksum."
I tried installation from multiple windows 7 dvds but getting same error.

HDD is connected with PARALLEL ATA PORT (PATA).
DVD drive is connected with Serial ATA port (SATA).
I have 2 RAM sticks (1GB,2GB) and tried using combination and singles of each one but getting the same issue.

Getting file CORRUPTION error after a clean install is very unusual.
You will need to run the full install again.
If it fails again, you  may have bad hardware or maybe a bad Windows 7 install DVD media. Where did you get the Windows 7 DVD?

Do you have   computer ?  Does it read the DVD well?

Salmon Trout mate, that 'filemix' works a treat on the 'LWP docs, but not on the 'SAM' ones.   You don't know a gizmo for these doce do you my friend?    Have you tried the Ami Pro instructions at Microsoft? (A SAM file is an Ami Pro file.) And the Lotus converter?

Inside the ZIP are 2 folders; one is or 64 bit and one for 32 bit Windows. Also a Readme.first text file you should read. What it does is install a converter for Microsoft Word. If you do not have Word then downloading the converter is pointless. I have never used this and can offer no support. All I have done is use Google to find Ami Pro converter links. I mean where is the registry kept kiddo??  You can use the Registry Editor to access it.  TYPE regedit.exe in the Run box.  I hope you know what you're doing.  If not, I suggest you stay out of it.  If you do make any changes, backup the registry first; you can use the menu in Registry Editor for this; click File and then Export. When I receive an email and it has an attachment as a PDF  and I click on download it will not automatically download anymore.
It pops up a big box with all my past downloads and asks me where I want to save PDF document.

Right, so I have a twofer for questions.

My computer has been really sluggish. I've cleaned it (gonna do another as the last was still a fair ENOUGH time away but was relatively recent), made sure I got rid of bloatware, and so on. But it seems to be that its still sluggish. Like, I open up a folder typically or do a search on my computer, and it takes forever. Granted, yes, I've got 244 gigs of 913 free, but it seems super slow and I've been around this number for a LONG while and I don't see why I have so much issues. I also notice my memory and disk usage in task manager is usually high, and disk usage often is at 99 or 100% at times where it doesn't seem like it should be.

Second question. I've been considering reformatting my laptop, as I figure it'd help with some issues and a "system restore" really doesn't seem to help much (anyone care to explain why that is?). Problem is, my laptop came preformatted with windows 8, no disk. It was then upgraded through digital download to 8.1 (through MS store). Now, how could I reinstall my windows if I were to format the laptop? I don't even have an activation KEY or anything (no sticker with it on the laptop). Any idea what I can do?Wait. My internet speed is 100down/20upload so i would like to use the 3500 max bitrate setting if possible

I am running a 64 bit machine, but no matter what I try I simply cannot get 64 bit Java to install. It worked fine for my desktop(Windows 7), and it worked fine for my laptop(Windows . I am now TRYING to install it on my boyfriend's computer and I'm having nothing but problems. We need 64 bit Java in order to play certain games, and this has been very frustrating.

When I try to install the current version Java 8 update 40, I get the error code 1603 and even the Java website doesn't have any answers on that error code.

I then tried to install an older version of Java, which is 7 update 75 and I keep getting the message "The wizard was interrupted before Java 7 Update 75 (64-bit) could be completely installed. To complete installation at another time, please run setup again."

I get this message every single time. I've heard that it might be due to previous versions of Java being installed already, but I can't find them. The tool Java provides can't find them either. I've also used the Microsoft Fixit Program Install/Uninstall and it didn't work.

Use File Explorer and navigate to "C:\Windows\system32\config\systemprofile\AppData\LocalLow\Sun\Java\" There should be a folder created recently similar to the Java version/update you were installing. Java 7 update 45, for example, would be jre1.7.0_45. You should be able to just sort by date modified and find the latest one.

I cannot seem to find the "Sun" folder. I get to LocalLow and beyond that I just have a Microsoft folder.

Instead of System32, it may be in Syswow64.

This is a nifty app for all those IE 11 folks who are frustrated with WINDOWS opening in restore MODE. This is a widely discussed problem with many solutions offered but none WORKING all of the time for all of the people. Yes, you can make the "restore" WINDOW almost as big as maximized but I want IE to open all windows maximized, even after rebooting. That's probably a good thing.  Do you really have so many bank accounts that you can't remember the passwords? 
Win 7 does  not have a built-in password-saving app.  Internet Explorer, Microsoft's web browser, can remember passwords, but not Windows 7.

Trying to figure out the issue with this...

System is a Pentium III 1.2Ghz computer. Attempting to boot off of a Ghost Image Disc and the Ghost Image Disc will not boot. Other discs boot fine such as an older Linux Mint 9 LTS CD. BIOS on this Pentium III has USB CD ROM support for Boot Order and its #1 on the list, and boots Linux Mint 9 LTS without any issues with the external USB CD-ROM.

Other sites have RUN into same issue and engineering claims that you need to use a specific external CD-ROM to boot the Ghost Image which is the cure, but they haven't shared the specifics as to why this is the case with this.

I asked engineering for a FTP LINK to download the image and burn the ISO image using the external USB CD-RW/DVD IOMEGA drive and the CD-R disc burned with this drive also will not boot. So it doesn't appear to be a pairing between the media and the drive in which the media was burned with.

The checksum on the image checks out ok on the burn according to engineering.

The solution to this has been to use or borrow from another site an IOMEGA USB CD_ROM drive as for this image will boot without problems with that specific model drive, but no other drives.

Looking at the CD-R that is burned you can SEE the Ghost.GHO file and I tried a trick in which I booted off of the Ghost 2003 original software disc and then navigated to D:\support\ghost.exe and launched Ghost and then just before pointing to the image to use I'd swap the discs and place the image disc into the drive and tell it to push the Ghost image to the system, and this appeared to work correctly as for Ghost did not error out, but upon boot of the HDD the Windows XP displayed issues with broken profile which normally automatically logs on and it defaults to default profile and then errors out with Windows Key Activation expired, but no ability to get past a blue desktop screen with nothing else displayed except for error message of windows activation broken. Figured maybe its because it needs to be activated within 30 days from installation date of the original build. The Date on the image file was Dec 12, 2014, so I rolled the BIOS date/time back to Dec 13, 2014 and pushed the image to the drive clean again. Ended up with same results so its not a activation 30 day timeout of XP. Found out that the Ghost image was created with Ghost 7.5 Corporate Edition and I was using Ghost 2003 to try to push image to the HDD. Looked up on Symantec website to see if 2003 supports 7.5 and it does.

I finally got the specific model IOMEGA USB CD-ROM and was able to boot off the same disc's that wouldn't boot with any other drives and successfully push the image to the HDD and no user profile or windows activation problems.

So the question I have is what makes the Ghost image on the CD-R CD-ROM specific?.. when I can take the ISO of this same image and burn it using a different drive and use that same different drive that was used to burn the disc to try to boot it and it would not boot, but other discs such as Linux Mint 9 LTS booted and ran perfectly fine with this drive with this Pentium III 1.2 Ghz system. Additional info is that the disc was tested on a newer 1 year old computer to see if Ghost would boot on the disc and it also will not boot on a totally different computer so its not an issue with the Pentium III hardware. Its almost like Ghost 2003 wrote a boot instruction to this CD-R that only WORKS with this specific external CD-ROM drive and no others, yet I can find no info on google in reference to this, but it appears to be that way since this specific IOMEGA CD-ROM when used with the Ghost image disc works flawless. 

I have been using Ghost of different versions, mostly 2003 for years for XP and older OS's and the only problem I ever ran into similar to this was when I burned a backup of a system, and then upgraded to a CD-RW/DVD ROM from CD-RW ROM and a year later went to install clean image back to system and the disc would not boot. I had to put the original LG CD-RW drive back into the system to install its image as for the Philips CD-RW/DVD combo drive didn't work with the image disc. It appeared that the LG CD-RW drive burned the disc with possibly an offset in the laser track that the CD-RW/DVD ROM wasn't able to read, similar to an issue many many years prior with Floppy Disks written to with a NEC drive and not readable on a Panasonic  floppy drive because of an offset in the location in which the data was written to the tracks on the floppy platter. For the fact that I downloaded the ISO of the image and burned a fresh copy using the same drive that it was to be used for booting off of the disc, I figured if it was a track offset that this would be cured, but it still has the same issue, so its not a track offset, but has to be some instruction that ghost has at the boot instruction that wont read with any drives other than the specific drive that was used to create the master image before it was mass produced for all sites and distributed as UPGRADE media for system upgrade for systems nationally.You just melted my brain trying to remember my fave fallback source for Ghost info...

please note that this did not occur prior to wiping my computer 4 days ago. Using windows 7 ultimate on a laptop, and not using an external mouse. The problem occurring is when I type or do any KEYSTROKES and attempt to move to the mouse immediately, it does not register any movements for 1-2 seconds. Its as if those movements never happened. After that delay it works fine. This delay does not occur in reverse. Any help?Do you have the correct driver for touchpad? I have seen this happen before when using the default windows driver for touchpad for LAPTOPS. Everything from delays to pointer that jumps AROUND to what seems like random window locations etc.No, I don't have any other problems besides this one. I checked the drivers and they are correct. The dead-time is the only issue, and other than that it works like a charm. I get no response during that time, and its as if WHATEVER movements I tried then didn't exist.


Edit: Using an external mouse (such as a wireless one) works normally, so I think it must be an issue with the drivers. The problem is that I don't know what drivers are causing the problems.


Edit2: PROBLEM SOLVED! When I decided to attempt to reinstall the synaptics driver for the touchpad, it asked me to uninstall that program and restart prior to updating. So I uninstalled it and it asked me to restart, however my mouse was still working. I decided to test and it was gone. I am guessing that was an incorrect driver but I see evidence that it is a synaptics touchpad, which is leaving me confused. But whatever, peace. This is a "feature" of the touchpad drivers. It was working not too long ago, but for some reason Thunderbird 24.1.1 stopped connecting to my gmail accounts. I have tried Windows Live mail and Opera, all with the same results. I tried CHANGING the passwords, but still the same thing. I have tried disabling Avast Mail protection and the firewall and still nothing. This is on Thunderbird, Opera, and Windows Live (this by changing it to POP3 since WL doesnt support imap). All registry performance enhancement tools I have ever used have always came with problems going back to Norton System Works 2003 which screwed up systems years ago.

The instructor that was SUGGESTING the software from Auslogics as being a must have tool is a hired contractor that instructs for the company, and he isnt an employee or have any beneficial ties to Auslogics, but was just promoting it as his suggestion of must have admin tools for systems. He also made claim that the Auslogics defrag is way BETTER than any Microsoft Defrag utilities.

Figured I'd share this here to see if anyone has ever used their tools or specific tools such as defrag to say whether its junk, ok, or a must have etc.

What I found odd was that they promote the software on their website as if its a clean tool without adware etc, but yet the free tools have advertising in them for their own products that they are trying to push you into the trials and purchase of etc.  I've been using Auslogics defrag for many many years now...

I never installed any of the other addons they offer.

But the defrag tool is excellent, quick...and efficient.AusLogics is reputable as far as I'm aware.

While the entire idea of "Registry fragmentation" (and "Dirty" registries) is effectively an invented problem in order for less scrupulous individuals to sell software to "fix" it, I think it is possible that reputable companies will see all these other companies making this software and assume those other companies must be on to something.

On the one hand, the people behind the software are generally far more ethical; whereas many of those behind commercial "registry cleaner" type software are often scumbags or completely insane. On the other hand, the entire domain is questionable and often based on false technical premises.

For Defragmentation I don't recall using one for some time. I believe the last Defragmentation program I ran explicitly- including the built-in defrag tool- was Smart Defrag when it was posted here. Call me paranoid but when you defragment and then the very next reboot you find all your boot files corrupted and destroyed... Also Windows Vista and later have idle disk defragmentation, and since I leave my PC on all the time it seems to take care of that on it's own.

No version of Windows ever needed registry cleanup...Period.

And we are aware that defragmenting and reg cleanups are 2 different things...

I have windows 8. Have a 19" sansui sled1949 widescreen tv/monitor I want to use. I plug it in with a dvi cable and change it to pc and it SAYS "not supported" on the screen. I can't change my resolution higher than 1280x1024, anyone know how I could change the resolution higher than that? The current monitor I have is recommended at 1280x1024.Have you tried Windows 8.1 update?

If I download 8.1 what will it change regarding ze problem?
In windows 8.1 you can get the device manager to find an update or suitable driver for that monitor.  It may be that Windows 8.0 is not WELL supported and  new drivers s are made for Windows 8.1 from now on.  Not verified.

That TV is only 720p which would equate to 1280x720 - You're going to have issues if you are feeding it resolutions higher than that.

I am trying to install flashplayer,but halfway through the install it asks me to turn off internet explorer, by going to task manager,
processes, and uninstall anything to do with I/e.but there are 5 I/e. if I click end process it say's I might lose data or it might upset my system.

I've never heard of that. All you have to do is close IE the normal way, not with Task Manager. MAKE sure you are downloading Flash Player from here: https://get2.adobe.com/flashplayer/    (and be sure to uncheck the McAfee download option first). Then save the installer, close IE, and run the installer.  I have just tried your link ,and got the same result, click install/ then unticked MacAfee,  click run.it gets to about 75% then asks me to
close I/e. you say close it the normal way ,what is that.The same way you close any applications: Either "File - EXIT" or click on the red "x" in the upper right HAND corner 
I don't understand your ANSWER, if I close I/e by red crossing it. I just use another browser  like Firefox or chrome, to ask the same question how do I install adobe flash player. I get the reply follow this link ,install run etc. etc.. then it tells me to close I/e. back to square one.You close IE and other browsers after the installer is running. The Installer does not use the browser.When you download the flash player installer you save it to your computer. Then you close the browser. Then you double-click on the file that was saved and run the installer.

Just installed free 2015 Avast on my SIL's rig. Set it up just like mine which runs great. However, after install cannot send emails from Win Live OR from her iPad. I can understand that Avast could interfere with Win Live as there are many reported CASES. But, how could Avast on her PC possibly affect her iPad MAIL account? Could there be SOMETHING ASSOCIATED with SSL happening at her router? This problem seems restricted to her Verizon email account as I can add my Verizon email account to her iPad and it works fine through her router. I plan to disable the Avast Mail Shield to see if that helps. Then I will unistall Avast and go back to MS Essentials. Any tips will be greatly appreciated.

I recently had to make a sudden move because of medical issues     and so I grabbed my (long unused) laptop to take with me so that I would have a computer handy.  However, it did not have Windows office with "WORD" and "excel" so I was unable to open many of my files.   So  I purchased an unused version of Windows office 2010.  But when I try to load it I GET the message that:   "to use and install this program you must be running VISTA SP1 on x86 or x64 platforms".    Evey attempt that I have made to find out  how to correct this has failed.  Can anyone help me?

I keep getting unwanted drafts in my "Draft" folder in Outlook 2013. They keep APPEARING out of nowhere, mainly to the same person. Any one know why?

Trying to use a combination of Pidgin 2.10.11, and  XMPP Openfire 3.9.3, on a Windows 7 64 bit PC running Windows Home Server 2011. Have installed Pidgin as the chat client on three different Windows OPERATING systems. When trying to connect Pidgin from computers running either Vista or Windows 8.1 to the Openfire server, there is no problem. But when I try to connect Pidgin from Windows 7 computers, it will not work. Any thoughts would be appreciated; thanks in ADVANCE.

I don't even know where to look for the "Change Office User Settings".  Page 10 of 24 . . of what?  This issue just suddenly occurred and I had made no changes of any kind. I took my computer into the Geek Squad but they could not retrieve my Microsoft Outlook email account.  OR I could purchase an updated account for about $220. . . NOT!!  So I lost all my calendar events and my address list.
