Trying to figure out a way to migrate my Access 2016 database to MariaDB which is in a no-password WAMP installation. Its nice that after all these years Microsoft Access still doesnt have a easy export ( dump ) of database to something like alldatabases.sql for easy import to MySQL.

I found a tool that is free called Access to MySQL as seen here http://www.bullzip.com/products/a2m/info.php , but its intended for Access 2007 and it breaks with Access 2016 asking for AccessDatabaseEngine installation. I went to Microsoft and attempted to install the x64 version of Access 2016 Redist - Access Database Engine and it gives an error message that my Access 2016 installation is the wrong version stating that my installation is 32-bit. So I then downloaded the x86 version of it and attempted install of the Access 2016 Redist - Access Database Engine and it gives an error message that my installation of Access 2016 is 64-bit and wrong version.

The Access 2016 install I got through College where I am taking a modern database management course, since the last college course in databases was back in 2000 and I figured I should be brought up to date on databases and security, as well as passing data to them from php. I am not sure if there is an issue because maybe its a student license for Access 2016 and maybe they dont allow the Access Database Engine installation for fear that someone might use a Student Edition for Commercial Purposes, but the error message isnt of much HELP to determine whether this is the case or not.

Chatted with the teacher and he is basically teaching the rest of the class at a different level then myself where I cover the same stuff that everyone else does but to get my $858 worth out of it, he stated he will give me more challenges that the others who are new to this arent required to perform, however the migration of data from Access 2016 to MariaDB's MySQL isnt a challenge of his, its a challenge of my own. I want to find a way to easily migrate databases we make in Access 2016 to my WAMP installation, so that scripting and programming that I am familiar with doing with MySQL can be achieved to do stuff beyond the limitations of MS Access. I havent used MS Access since Access 2003 many years ago. Looking on Google there are all sorts of methods but it seems like each one I try I hit a wall.

So far I have tried:

- Access to MySQL and that doesnt work because I cant get the Access Database Engine to install to support a dependency of the software.

- From Access connecting to MariaDB's MySQL Database via from Access 2016 ->External Data ->ODBC Database ( Export selected object to an ODBC Database, such as SQL server )... other options are Excel, Text File, XML, PDF or XPS, Email, Word, SharePoint List, HTML Document, or dBASE File. *When trying the Text File it only created a data file with no schema and schema is needed in order to reconstruct it on MySQL where the database structure doesnt exist yet to take the data. I tried other methods such as XML where XML creates a schema file, but its not in a format that is easily loadable into MySQL.

After 6 hours working on this off and on today I figured it was time to run it by you all and see where I am going wrong. Might be something pretty simple. I never realized until I got here that Microsoft as far as I know doesnt make migration easy for those using Databases other than Microsofts own products.

Total worse case scenario is that I dont bother migrating the database as a whole and reconstruct it all from scratch in MySQL but there has to be a way to make this work without accepting defeat and going the path of least resistance to just reconstruct these small databases.


Unfortunately, Going from one database to another usually requires custom-made tooling. Even if Access could dump an sql file, you wouldn't be able to simply run that sql file in MariaDB/MySQL/Postgres because they use slightly different languages and data types. It be done with 100% SQL COMPLIANCE but Access doesn't use an SQL engine, it uses the Custom "Jet" Database Engine Microsoft constructed back in the day, so I doubt any SQL it outputs would be compliant.

Just speaking as a problem solver myself if I had this problem I would probably try to write a function in Access VBA that would export the database schema and data to an SQL file targeted at the desired database engine. It would have to appropriately map data types and use the appropriate syntax for the desired target where applicable when OUTPUTTING the data. It would certainly be a non-trivial undertaking.

As you've found there are some tools designed to make it easier- but, your installation is 64-bit, and the tools are 32-bit and require a 32-bit component for Access.

By way of direct example, The Database engine I/we use for the software through my Work is Postgres, and there wouldn't be any "automagic" way of SAY moving that database over to MySQL or MariaDB; if we wanted to work on those databases as well, we would need to develop the tooling to migrate ourselves (and of course update our software to also work with that database engine). Similarly, there was no Magic toolset we could use to automatically move date from our ancient software (ISAM database files on a Mainframe) to pretty much any modern database (in our case Postgres) so we had to develop that tooling over time. Meanwhile, it had to remain 100% compatible and work both ways, Customers had to be able to sell in Windows and see it on the Reports they ran on the mainframe... ugh. so it wasn't just a one-time data conversion- it had to actively see new data in the ISAM and write it to postgres and see new data in postgres and write to the ISAM tables on the mainframe.

It's a one-time conversion now, but it still requires a custom tool we built for the purpose to do so.

I wouldn't expect it to be much different with most other database technologies. (Except Access to MSSQL I expect, since MS built tooling for that to encourage MSSQL usage)Thanks for your help on this BC. Interesting info too on the issues of old and new and having to make custom coded tools for cross portability of new-to-old & old-to-new ( Windows to Mainframe) for the systems that you work with. Also wasn't aware that Access uses "Jet" and not SQL engine.

I guess for my main project I am just going to avoid Access 2016 and use MySQL Workbench as well as SQL console prompt instructions for building the database. I also have used Community Edition of SQLyog for ease of GUI navigation in tables and to edit data manually.

I got until the first week of August to get my final project done, and eager to dive head first into it asap as for php is new to me and the teacher suggested that I get familiar with php vs going with perl that I am far more familiar with. I agreed that this would be a good time to dive into php where while the teacher isnt teaching php, I have played with it before to know my way around it but perl is my strength. However the teacher is right in calling me out to dig into something with more challenge vs taking the easier path as for I will get more for my money by also strengthening my php skills. Additionally the teacher has a masters degree and codes mainly in php and suggested that I should tap into his knowledge as a resource that I paid $858 for and get the most for my money. And I agreed It was pretty insightful to me, in terms of customer needs. because, as it happens, when it comes to the "real world" you often don't have the luxury of building from scratch using the latest tooling, or using the latest whizbang technologies from Microsoft. If you have customers going back 30 years, providing a compatible, interoperable solution that works with your old software is one of the major advantages you can have over any other competition. If you go "nope, you have to start over" than they could just as well find somebody else. But when it's, "You can train all your staff on the new staff, but all the old stuff can work for now, ol' Gilda Grunty in Accounting can still use the same reports on the Terminal she's been doing for 40 years until she retires 5 years from now" then it is far more enticing.

As to SQL/Jet, As I understand it, it allows access (heh) to data via SQL but it's a rather limited language compared to what you get in most "full" Database server programs. It also, as expected, integrated a lot of Microsoft-specific stuff as they tend to do. You be able to export and import the data after you BUILD a schema- most database admin tools offter some capability to say import from CSV.My knowledge of database stuff is very limited, so I hesitate to say anything on this topic. But, in the vein of an export (from Access) and import (to MariaDB) approach mentioned by BC_Programmer, I thought I'd post a couple of links from mariadb.com. Hi, after two overnight (non-optional) upgrades by MS earlier this week, I can no longer use Excel. I can't create new s/sheets. I can open and view existing s/sheets but can't make any changes; any attempt to change a cell (or to tab or use arrows to move between cells) results in (i) creation of a new version (copy) of the existing s/sheet, and (ii) closure of the XL programme. I'm using Windows 10 and Office XP.
I spent over an hour on a live chat to MS yesterday, the outcome of which was that they just wanted to sell me a monthly subscription to MS Office. Not very useful. Has anyone else had the same problem and/or have any POSSIBLE solution ? Many thanks in advance for all your help.You could try setting up a VM using VirtualBox or other free virtualization software and running Excel XP there using Windows XP or Windows 7. Of course you will need a copy of Win XP or 7 in order to do that.

Another possible solution is to install LibreOffice which is a free, open source office suite that can read/write Excel, Word, Power Point, etc... documents.

You can't really blame MS, Excel XP is really ANCIENT (2002).yep, sounds like it's bite the bullet time.
if Office XP is more important, undo those couple of MS updates and wear the cost of losing whatever feature they gave you.or if Windows 10 is more important, keep the updates and finally take the plunge and update Office.
if you are like me and use Excel features like a demon, then sadly going to an alternative like LibreOffice has never been a viable choice as their list of inbuilt functions is ridiculously limited COMPARED to Excel's.

But, as Mark said, these freeware alternatives may lack some of the more advanced features found in MS Office. The free version of WPS Office does display an ad when you first open it a file. You can close the ad after 5 SECONDS. They also have a paid version, which is ads-free. Libre' Office is a nice alternative as well...and fully compatible with Office so you can use your existing work with no issues...I'm a little late to this thread, but...

1. I've been using Office XP Pro (Excel 2002) for 15 years.
2. This issue is all over the internet forums.
3. It's been reported many times on the Insider Hub.
4. It's a problem with Excel 2002 & 2003 versions.
5. Some are able to "fix" 2003 by enabling "Update Other Microsoft Products"; this has no effect on 2002.
6. This problem is only an issue with Windows 10 Version 1803 (OS Build 17134.xx), 64-bit version only. No issue with 1709.
7. There is no issue at all with 32-bit version which indicates a Windows problem, not an Excel problem.
8. I've tried both LibreOfice & OpenOffice; both work but they change the colors of the graphs.

When I changed to Windows 10 on my desktop, I had the address of freecell from my old program.

Freecell has just stopped working - it wont open.

I made a directory on another drive and named it FreeCell. The I copied the contents of the Free Cell directory found in Window XP. Then I made a shortcut to the EXE file in the new directory.
It work great! No internet needed. It is the same old Free Cell from Windows XP.
My PC is a multi-boot. But I can not run program in the partition of the other system. So I have a DATA partition I use for my documents and also for running 'portable' programs like Free Cell.
The XP version of Free Cell works good in Windows 7 and Windows 10. Of curse, it and DLL files must be copied to another placeto avoid permission problems.
Microsoft Removed All the card games from Windows 10.

Windows 10 instead ADDS the "Microsoft Solitaire collection" a new "App" included with Windows 10. This includes most of the same card games. However, this time around, the program is infested with ads unless you pay for a "subscription". That last aspect may be why, when upgrading, the existing Card games are wholly removed from your system without asking. Somewhat unscrupulous if you ask me.

Thankfully, as Geek-9pm said, you can copy *most* of those card games- Freecell for example- from a previous install of Windows. However, this primarily applies to XP. You can't copy the WIndows Vista or Windows 7 versions of those programs over and have them function.

There is a "third party" package/installer that installs these programs onto Windows 10. you can find it here. I have it installed and as far as I was able to determine at that time, it is legitimate and doesn't install anything questionable, but your mileage may vary.

Well it so happens I didnt have XP - I had windows 7, and was given the address. I can't access win7 now. It h as only happened since I LET Win10 do the latest download last night. I used their remote control service. I know they uninstalled something and reinstalled it, but sorry, I don't know what else. A while ago I had bought this video software from NCH software. All was working fine for a while until when I boot this up the whole application doesn't seem to respond to any kind of input from me. Also seems like the damned thing isn't even there. Every time it the application will sit in the corner of the screen. The only way I can close the software is force closing it via the task manager. I have already attempted to uninstall and reinstall the software, reset my computer and contacted NCH. It seems like a SPECIFIC problem but hopefully, it can be solved.

I would imagine I could've been the update as well. I know MS has tightened the noose on a lot of software (usually really old stuff) with the 1803 update, Office 2002 comes to mind.
so maybe VideoPad is similarly effected.

I am trying to double the framerate USING interpolation to MAKE a video look nice and smooth, and I am following this guide: (http://www.spirton.com/convert-videos-to-60fps/).

I have found a few errors along the way however. The first being that when I try to update MEgui, when it reboots it says cannot run updater.

The second problem is that when I download MKV Toolkit and try to run the file listed in the guide (mkvmerge GUI), it is not on my computer, the file in that LOCATION is called MKVToolNix GUI.

The third and the major problem (as it is the one that I can't get past) is that when I try to add a video file to MEgui (step 9), MEgui shows an error when trying to open the file. I'm not trying to reduce the flickering, I am wanting to make the framerate higher, like the process described at the top of the guide I linked to. I am not sure what the correct term for it is. Sorry I can not give you a specific answer.
The terms often used are:
"Flickering"
"Strobing"
Changing the apparent frame rate may or may not help. It depends a LOT on what causes the problem.
One causers the presence of florescent lights in an venue of a sports event. A simple change of frame rate does not help.
Some video editors have an option to reduce the visual annoyance. That is why I made the remark about using another editor.

Here is another You Tube thing about how to reduce the visual annoyance without any increase in frame rate. It uses the opacity settings of a free editor that lets yu offset a low opacity duplicate of the track and merge.
Hen recommends three track merge, but two may work. On a shot video It is a quick fix. Worth a try.

At one point when I was browsing, I accidentally clicked the option to not show me this notification about if I wanted a pop-up to open when I was trying to open a pop-up. Now, I can't find any way to turn the thing back on, and I'm having to manually add websites to pop-up exceptions in the settings, which is super annoying, because I don't even get a notification that a pop-up was blocked if a WEBSITE was supposed to serve me one that I needed.

I tried Googling, but the only answers are super old and mention some sort of status bar that Firefox no LONGER even has. Well someone screwed around because the default is true...

On startup of XP it will say this disk needs checking for CONSISTENCY hit any key WITHIN seconds USUALLY get this when you unplug machine from power is there or can it be done so one can disable this?1) Why are you unplugging it? You should not pull the plug while while in Windows (or even when it isn't until shutdown is complete).

2) Open a command prompt and type: chkdsk c: /r and press ENTER. You will see a message that the disk is locked and do you want to run the check on reboot. Say yes. Reboot.

3) Stop pulling the plug while in Windows

I'd like to create a backup of a rather large directory - but NOT every subdirectory in it. And then I'd like to continue syncing the directories, continually OMITTING those same subdirectories (but copying over new subs as they get added to the original).

But I'd like it to be easy, you know?

Any recommendations on software/procedures? I've used Allways SYNC n'Go for cloning major directories before, and I've also used Total Office Commander (but not very well, I just don't get the hang of that one).

xcopy with exclude file is a way... have that run at timed intervals as a batch file. Anything you don't want to have copied gets added to exclusions list file that xcopy would use to know what to skip and not copy. I have used this method before and it works well, however you would need to manually add each and every path or file you want excluded unless you create an exclusion list based on age of files which can get acquired from the date/time stamp of the files such as you only want TODAYS file copied and not any that are older etc.Cool. Will check that out. Used xcopy years ago, hadn't thought about a batch file. Thank you.

What I'm trying to do is create a "media server" for my Sonos that pulls music from my iTunes - but not things like podcasts, bootleg concerts, etc. So I can have a master copy of iTunes on one HD (for managing all my ipods, etc.) and the one with just "household music" on another HD, which I'll drop on a ROUTER or old PC.



(I noticed that some of the metadata on my files is screwy - shows in iTunes one way, in Sonos and MediaMonkey another... But that's a DIFFERENT issue for a different day. And thread.)

Suddenly whenever turning on my HP Pavilion 1000 laptop, a message appears that a fan stopped working but if I press Enter, I can go ONLINE. Why did the fan stop working? I never mistreated or dropped the unit. I notice it gets very hot. The PC is about 4 years old. Any advice?Replace the fan. You can buy them from various local retailers i many CITIES and online retailers.

Edit: Besides replacing the fan, you may need to do some troubleshooting to DETERMINE what causes the computer to run hot. Otherwise, you'll be in the same situation again. I'm actually surprised that the system doesnt shut itself down. Most systems have fan installed that if the system NOTICES that the fan isnt spinning it will just shut itself down before getting hot as a means to protect from a thermal melt down.

Given that this system allows you to bypass the issue and run it potentially fan-less, I would avoid using your laptop this way as for you can stress components with the excess heat that the system cant get rid of. Performance of the laptop also might come to crawl as the APU or CPU thermal throttles itself ( underclocks itself ) to try to run cooler and not roast the processor.You need to replace your fan soon otherwise motherboard will be effected. So I am currently working on kiosk and was doing good on locking it down until I discovered that if end user clicks on a broken link they get "This page can't be displayed". The issue is when they get this page there is a "Fix connection problems" button on the page. A user is able to click it and with some navigation can reach the control panel.

Is there a group policy, Registry setting or IE setting that will disable the "Fix connection problems" button?

Thank in advance.If you rename Control.exe to say Control1.exe they wont be able to get to control panel because the program itself is normally Control.exe ; however not sure if the error condition would spill them over to another condition where they would have other privileges that they shouldnt have.

This is at C:\Windows\System32 for Windows 7 and prior systems.

Back when I was a systems admin for a food store I MADE some custom kiosks for the customers to use and I RENAMED lots of stuff as a means of HIDING access to stuff that I didnt want customers who were skilled in computers to gain access to if they somehow got to a control prompt etc. Additionally I didnt run the kiosk in admin but instead I created a user account with the BARE minimum privileges so that they were locked out of stuff and couldnt make certain changes as well as couldnt download and install stuff etc. The brower itself was locked down tight. I made my own browser with user interface in C# which was pretty simple since I had a C# 2008 programming book that had step by step how to make your own browser environment and with other stuff with the book added I was able to make my own kiosk program that launched a dumbed down explorer like browser environment and kept them to the user interface. I also took a keyboard and an exacto knife and opened it up and cut the traces to the F keys and Windows Key and other keys that were not necessary for the customers to have access to making for a restricted use keyboard that when keys were pressed that were electronically disabled nothing would happen. When i needed a full keyboard, I would plug in my USB keyboard along SIDE the altered keyboard and have all keys available to me, when I unplugged my keyboard the customers were stuck with innocent keys that are harmless of any combination to gaining elevated or unintended privileges.

As far as the Fix Connection Problems Button ... If your able to store the data ( website ) locally to that system the data will always be there and so you should never get this condition, however if the kiosk requires access to web pages that are dynamic and always changing this wouldnt be a perfect fix as for the locally stored pages of the website could be resolved locally and the external pages if there is a network issue or the web admin made a problem where a page is not there then this condition could still happen. The best fix for this would be to have a web interface made specifically for this system that the kiosk accesses locally on its own hard drive, and have an automated process that updated the locally stored web pages. This way they always are there and you wont get the Fix Connection problem.

Curious if ANYONE has worked with Access 2016 and ran into this issue and know a solution for it.

On multiple COMPUTERS including the college computer on the college network I get this error and it seems like its happening more frequent now that I am making forms with subforms and querys. Each time this happens I lose all my work and I have to start over.

I have been making it a habit to save my work every time I make a change, but the frequency of this issue has increased with more complex databases and having to do stuff 3 or 4 times to make progress on college work spending 30 minutes to get one what should be done in 10 minutes had me just short of throwing my laptop against the wall. But I know its not the computers fault its Access 2016 which I cant say how I really feel about that software here.

Attached is a screenshot of the error I get. The HELP option that sends you to Microsoft is WORTHLESS!!! Looking on Google for suggestions to fix this issue have been failure after failure, so I figured I'd check here to see if anyone knows of a solution to this.

No other computers are running Access 2016 and the database is not open anywhere else, additionally looking in task manager there are no duplicate instances of Access 2016 running. Some things I have tried including some on google was to put computer in sleep mode and HIBERNATION mode to which upon it coming back online from these states it would reconnect the licensing handshake with Microsoft as well as maybe it will no longer think its in use by someone else on the same computer.

I will create my tables and either successfully save the database or have failure. If failure start all over again, if success create querys. If it fails when saving after querys created then close Access 2016 and load the last successful save. If it saves successfully then move on to forms if it fails to save then, then close Access 2016 and load the last successful save. If it saves at this point move forward with more work on the database. And it seriously can take 30 minutes to get what should be done in 10 minutes completed because I have to fight it out with Access 2016.

Heading to college tomorrow and work that needs to be completed isnt completed because I keep hitting this error over and over again and instead of it being called Microsoft Access 2016 it should be Microsoft Definition of Insanity 2016 Do you have any VBA code? If you are opening database connections in your VBA code and you aren't closing them I'd expect this to happen. If you are doing anyt sort of importing to another application like Excel or whatever then it would be accessing the database- similarly it would need to close it when completed, or you'll get this error trying to save the access database.

It can also happen with Certain Macros. Specifically when you have any macros or functions assigned to run when saving or opening the database.Hello BC ... No code or macros. Just having like 5 tables with 2 pretty simple querys, and a single form with nothing special in it is enough to cause this issue.

I had the issue happen again and I set the laptop to hibernate so that I can troubleshoot it further vs having to wait for the error condition to dig further into it.Ok an update to this... found a strange work around.

So the lock file seems to think that the database is in use by someone else when it isnt.

Was messing around with this issue in class today at college. I saved the issue by telling laptop to hibernate. And professor and I worked on this together to figure out a fix. We looked at the file properties of the lock file and it was last time stamped yesterday. Trying to save as still gave same error. Save option wasnt working. However when I clicked on a Table the save option went from grayed out in upper left to white. Clicked on save and looked in the folder and it saved the database with time stamp changing to know that it saved it. Tried to save as and still same error, however exiting Access 2016 and then going back into Access 2016, I now was able to open the database that previously I kept losing because when I had the lock file error I wasnt able to save and I would exit out of Access 2016 and lose it.

So the strange work around is that when SAVE AS runs into this lock file issue. Click on a table to open to view that table. Then the Save Icon upper left corner of Access 2016 window will show as white ( active to select ). Click on this Save Option and look in the folder where your database is and you should see the date/time stamp then be recent to when you clicked save. Exit Access 2016 and then go back into it either buy launching Access 2016 and then telling it to open the database or double-click on the database file and it will load and then no data loss.

Strange issue but at least now I have a means of saving my database vs losing all my work each time this error pops up.

Maybe someone else will find this info useful and no lose their database/work PERFORMED in it.

So the issue is that SAVE AS has an issue at times, but this work around allows you to save to the last file name the database was opened or created under. I generally have been using SAVE AS and adding a number to end of the file name to keep TRACK of what version I am at as well as have the ability to revert back to an earlier state if needed which seemed to run into troubles, and this work around gives the ability to save the database, however instead of saving a Rev 6, its saving it overtop of the last Rev 5 because you cant SAVE AS once this issue is met. And only ability to save is introduced when opening a table so the database thinks there is now a change to save, in which SAVE will work now, but trying to SAVE AS a different file name is an endless loop of failure which is where I use to be until finding this work around to data loss!!

Sounds like the Windows install has issues then and I would back up all your data to external drive and perform a clean installation of Windows, then install Steam again.

Has this system been damaged by any malware or virus's?

The fact that the service is failing to load and hold without failing means that Windows itself is damaged or infected since you downloaded and installed a new clean copy of steam.

To find the exact cause as to why Windows is having issues with keeping the steam service running is like looking for a needle in a hay stack and you dont know what the needle looks like. So its easiest to perform an etch-a-sketch to the system ( wipe the hard drive and install clean ) and start from a clean OS state and clean Steam download and install and go from there.

Have you run an up to date antivirus and checked your system over for an infection?

Do you have the original installation media or if its a name brand computer you purchased preinstalled with Windows and software, does you system have system recovery options built into it with a recovery partition to perform a clean install of Windows if needed?

1. Did you actually uninstall Steam and then reinstall it? reinstalling steam over top of the existing install does not do the same thing.

2. Uninstall and reinstalling steam reinstalls Steam itself, but does nothing if the issue is caused by corrupted data in your steam library itself. You would have to completely nuke your Steamapps directory (or temporarily rename it) and then reinstall steam and see if it works- if so something in your library was corrupted/broken.

3. If you run steam as admin, it will try to resolve any issues with the background service if it is misconfigured. It cannot do that under normal circumstances due to permissions.

4. Is steam being blocked by your firewall or security software? If the Service is unable to connect it gives up and exits.

I’m after what probably is quite a basic question...

I have developed a quite complex XLS spread sheet that I use at work. I recently demonstrated this to government department visitors and they have congratulated me on the document and how it works.

I have been advised that I should launch the product as an actual software and sell it to other establishments who would also use this product. There is a page for each person/product for instance and behind that page is data and various calculations that needs to be able to generate reports, etc. There can be 1 to 100+ people/products and each will have 1 to 3 pages of data.

I have a couple of questions...

1. What is the best way to convert this in to an actual software with front page, etc?
2. Do I need to use a software development person/company to allow me to do the above?
3. How long do you think it would take to develop?
4. Does anyone know the kind of cost involved to develop via a programmer?
4. Are there any pitfalls I need to consider before I commence?

An attempt to sell software is an uphill climb. It is much easier to sell used cars.What version of Excel did you use for this? I'm wondering why you would mention "front page". I presume you mean Microsoft FrontPage, the last version of which was Microsoft Office FrontPage 2003. So, it is a very old program; it was designed to create web pages, not to use as a software development tool for offline software applications.

The xls software is the most up to DATE version and when I mentioned front page, I meant a front page/start page for the new software/program. Sorry I’m no computer expert!

Copyright isn't restricted. If you create a useful XLS document then you own the copyright over it just as you would if you had written a piece of software or a novel, or painted a picture. In most western countries, it's "AUTOMATIC"; you create something, you own the copyright.

If you hire a programmer, you won't be hiring a programmer to turn what you have into software. You'll be hiring a programmer to build a *new* piece of software that accomplishes the same goal.
If I understand you correctly, you WISH to convert what you have BUILT in Excel to a stand alone piece of software that you can sell. That may be much harder to do than you realize depending upon what Excel commands and functions you have used to do your calculations since those formulas and functions will need to be developed as well as the rest of the software.

The PROBLEM with this kind of spreadsheet is that it is most likely too specific so can't easily be modified to accommodate a different mix of people and products from the original.

My advice would be to generalize the spreadsheet so that it can basically have any number of people/products added and make it so each organization can add the mix they need. You can then sell your custom spreadsheet (provided there really is a market and demand for what you have created). Any thanks for all your responses. They have been very useful. Thank you.

So I have a final that I am working on and just about got it done. Went through to make sure that all was well with some forms and some fields in one of the forms shows that there is an issue now. Not sure how the issue happed as the tables and relationships haven't been altered in any way, but I have like 60 saves going back to the very beginning of my final project and the 5th save back doesn't have the issue.

So I was like I just NEED these 5 querys added to the older copy of the database where the form doesn't have an issue, so I copy pasted the SQL info from SQL view on the 5 querys on the newest database where the querys are good. Attempted to copy/paste the SQL info to a new query on the older database so I don't have to manually reconstruct the 5 querys all over again, and it gives me an error that states that there is a syntax error with the SQL information.

I looked at the pasted SQL information and its all correct and its a exact match between the source where it came from where it was working with no problems and the destination where I placed it into a new querys SQL view to make the query follow instructions that I know are good.

However I keep getting this error with syntax which makes no sense. Was wondering if anyone has any suggestions on how to get around this?

Worst case SCENARIO I write down everything onto paper and reconstruct the 5 querys all over again. But it really bothers me that I believe I should be able to take good SQL instructions for the query from a known working database and bring it to an earlier version of itself where dependencies are a exact match and it should WORK, however its really messed up that its giving me an error about syntax. I have a screen shot of it on my computer at home and wish I had that with me to show the exact message. I could share that later today if needed to show the actual complaint by Access 2016.

The good thing is that the final is due on 8/7 and its currently 8/3 so I have some time, but Access 2016 has been a nightmare all semester with stuff breaking without reason and me basically going back to an earlier saved state and performing exactly the same thing forward that lead up to it breaking and it then works and I save it as a new rev NUMBER knowing that a crash or error or something is bound to happen again and its nice to have restore points from known good database states when it breaks to not have to fight it out with an unstable Access 2016 on multiple computers using Access 2016 as supplied by the College.Here is the exact error message which i believe is complaining about syntax when the syntax is correct.I'm not sure how well Access SQL supports SQL but at least with the ones I'm familiar with, using a subquery like that requires an alias. (It also needs to be it's own query- though again maybe Access does something weird that lets it understand "Brands INNER JOIN ..." as a subquery without a select clause?)

You should be able to use multiple Joins on the same query, so something like this might work:

Its the oddest thing that the SQL query instructions are from a newer version of the same exact database that they function properly in. And when copy/pasting to an earlier version of the database in which the Tables, Data within, and Relationships are the same between earlier version and latest version, that it would be broken for all 5 queries.

I was thinking that I'd save myself time just pasting the SQL from a newer version of itself to an older version of it and not have to manually recreate the queries all over again.

Will test what you suggested and will report back. Thanks Man! Gave it a try and got an error with syntax again.

But also just want to let you know that I just ended up manually creating the queries all over again from scratch because Access doesn't seem to like SQL instructions pasted to it I guess. If Access 2016 would have ACCEPTED the copy/paste of good querys it would have been a quick fix, but because it has a fit with it, I decided to try your suggestion and then recreated them from scratch by looking at one computer with newer database and another computer with older database and then just recreated them all and then I was all set.

I am searching for a FREE program able to CREATE folders from a selection list .
The selection list is preconfigured in an ini file or similar.
I can select one or more of those folder names with the usual COMBINATION SHIFT or control keys from the list.

I have an ALBUM of MP3 songs that have very low level.
After I did an conversion and burn them to a CD, I noticed the low level.

So I used Audacity to take a look at the MP3 files. They are all about 6 db below the maximum level. I could adjust each by hand. But maybe there is a better WAY?

So my question is: What would be the best or easy easy to fix the whole album?
Id there a way to MAKE a macro or script to do if? Should I use something other than Audacity?

I'm using Private Character Editor in Windows (known also as EUDCEDIT).
I created in years large collection of private characters.
Now I downloaded Unifont - purpose: Most wide range of GLYPHS in Unicode - maximal Unicode characters count.
I set it in Notepad as default and then opened some files using my private characters...

Problem - my characters were replaced by Unicode symbols...
This font has unbelievable Unicode characters count and it is great to use, but:
How to force to DISPLAY private characters over the Unicode characters at their place in Unicode table?
Other fonts have characters at private characters places in table hidden and overrided by private chars.

Really I didn't knew where to post this Q, but on this forum I found always somebody which help me, so I decided to post it here.

To work with custom fonts you must consider using something better than notepad.

Notepad is a very plain text editor with very limited ability of present atrative fonts. You need to use a program for word processing, such as Microsoft Word word or some other product.

When I set in Notepad Unicode encoding it allows me display all characters in selected font and private characters created in EUDCEDIT from file EUDC.TTE replacing characters in selected font in Notepad.

Unifont is first font which allows not this replacing - so how to set private characters over font characters at their positions in character table?

Private characters are displayed in each font selected in Notepad, but outside my Windows or Windows where is not imported EUDCEDIT.TTE file they're shown not.
No one font can override private characters, but Unifont is only one found yet.

The most idly used method to transmit DOCUMENTS electronically is PDF. There are many PDF editors and you can even create PDF as a surrogate printer device.

Some PDF tools lets you create custom fonts for PDF.

That is the best I can do for you. It is not for sharing or so - my personal use only...

I named it correctly - private characters - only use on my computer(s).

But Unifont AFAIK has largest character count known, and I need to force private characters display instead Unicode characters at private characters positions.
I created in years >400 characters and only their positions I need to override.

So I have a folder of pictures, about 5,000 to be exact and I saw that the "Show Hidden Items" box was not checked, so i clicked it, now it says i have 5,001 images, but i dont know which ONE it is, is the a WAY to find out? Cuz it'd be a real pain to check every line of pictures until i found it.In Details view, if you right-click one of the Columns, there is a 'More' Option; that will TAKE you to a list where you can select "Attributes" to be displayed as a column.

Afterwards you can show Hidden items and then sort by Attributes by clicking the column. The ITEM that was hidden should have "H" in it's attributes column and will likely be at the very top or the very bottom of the list.it's probably something like desktop.ini or thumbs.db Well if you remember any of the LETTERS in the file name you can try searching for it using the search bar. Or think of what it's name could be.

Hope this is the right forum, but if not, no DOUBT someone will redirect the post.
At the moment l'm using PCTools Spyware Doctor (paid version) which gives me realtime PROTECTION againtst spyware, malware and the like.
I've been happy with it over the years, but it's due for renewal again and the renewal fee is a tad on the HIGH side.
If anyone out there knows of Spyware Doctor, then will Superantispyware afford me the same protection as Spyware Doctor?
I'm obviously trying to save a bit of MONEY here, but not necessarily at the expense of leaving the computer open to threats!
ALSO, should l have realtime protection or not and are there any other recommended programs that you know of?
BTW, my current online virus protection is from Avast, and my firewall is the standard windows one. Both of these have also given me complete protection.

I have now purchased two copy's of ACRONIS true image. I REALLY like the software but I am reluctant to buy yet another copy that I need. I have purchased "True image 10 Home," for my windows Vista and just recently purchased "true image home 2009," for a laptop I bought. I got the FREE GOM Player and it should play MP3s and Wave Files and everything ELS and it did.

And if it can't play a DVD or File it will connect to the net and Downlad it.

And it did and it still want play my DVDs.

And my AUDIO Files keep ASKING for Windows Media Player.

I have looked through some of the FAQs but to no avail anyway.
I run Windows xp pro current SP I updated something and had to restart the comp nothing that would warrant this problem I start up normally get top log in and click the only user available it then just shows me my current wallpaper and that is all. I cant left click no icons and no start menu. Only thing I can get to work is task manager I tried the FAQ ending the explorer.exe then running it but task manager kinda crashes.

I have a Toshiba G20 Qosmio. :)It has windows xp installed on it. As you know, One of the features that it has is that it comes with a built in Tv Card. The recommended software to be used is called Qosmio Player. Where can I LOCATE the installation file for this? I have tried running the recovery cd for this and it doesnt work . Ive recently remove some programs. Dont ask witch ones plz. THing is i have my mp3's but now windows shows my mp3's with an icon of windows media player and cant open them in the windows media player only. So I wanna know how can I return the mp3 icon file or its program or driver whatever. It is about x1nject injector, it's an injector for a game which injects a .dll file. I have 2 computers at home. One is vista ultimate while the second is vista home basic. The problem goes this way. When i run the program on the 1st computer it displays "x1nject has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly...blah blah...and a button shows (Close Program) which can be pressed".

However, on the 2nd computer with Vista Home Basic, when i run the x1nject program. The windows doesn't detect any error. Do i have to ADJUST any settings for my 2nd computer? Any suggestion so that i can also detect the same error like with the Ultimate windows one about that? Any help is really appreciated. Of course there is a downside. there is no ready-made tool based in these specifically designed to circumvent the protections provided by some game DLL files. programmers just don't have time for that. Nor do most people, who save themselves time and effort by buying the game.

Or even worse, that the most common USAGE for this particular Injection tool is to install "hacks" into games, WHOSE sole purpose is the cheat. The people who make such tools are well aware that the very same people that WISH to "cheat" at network games also know very little about PC maintenance, and often (and in this case it's true) use their tool as a carrier for trojan downloaders.

Quite a novel concept, see, even though their program "works" for the most part, it practically guarantees the necessity of a reformat/reinstall! It's quite a fitting punishment for cheaters.

I also might add that I am well aware of why it isn't working but considering the nature of both the program and it's usage I see no compelling reason, aside from your IMMINENT infection thereafter, to tell you what is happening.I would like to ask. I bought a 1 TB hdd for my ps3 and found how to convert it to fat 32 here : http://www.wikihow.com/Add-an-External-Hard-Drive-to-a-PlayStation-3 but while i'm on a vista pc the "Delete Partition" or "Delete Volume"
options don't show up. There's only 1 user and it's the admin account but from cmd i get INSUFFICIENT privileges
execute in elevated mode which i found out means run as admin. The solution's supposed to be ctl+sft+enter and quickly push alt+c if the user PROFILE tries to assert itself-read that here but while i can press the first 3 getting to alt+c would require another person-within a nanosecond press the 2nd set of buttons.

Any ideas how to get this working-thanks.
If i can't figure it out i'll have to get a 2.5 inch hdd that fits inside the ps3 and they stop at 500 GB. I ENDED up using swissnife on a win xp pro system and particioned my 1 TB external hdd.
It only gave me 429 GB instead of the full 931 GB but that wasn't what i found most odd because while my ps3 recognizes it for : photo,music,movies and game saves it doesn't show up for what i wanted the huge installs.

Games like : dmc4,gt prologue,mgs4,red ALERT 3 and socom are among the worst offenders and while i can back up my internal 60GB of which 55 is usable i want to use the external hdd for the big installs.

My concern is that like wii if it's not on the internal memory it doesn't exist.

Anyone know for sure. Do you think i can use swissnife on vista and if so would i get all 931 GB recognized.

I wish sony would update the firmware to allow an external hdd as an OPTION like save to internal or external hdd and of course they need to get beyond fat 32. thanks.

I am having issue with macros in word 2002 application. The problem is i have created a macro that is designed to do something in word application. Then, i customised the toolbar by adding in a new menu. In that menu, the macro is added in. So, now whenever i OPEN up a new word, i can access to that macro. The trouble is that the macro suddenly becomes something else (i think it is a shortcut of a bluetooth CONNECTION). It is a bluetooth because i COULD see an ICON of a mobile phone. I then went to check to see if my bluetooth connection on my HP laptop was disabled or not. It was disabled. I wonder if there are any workaround this problem.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi, EVERY month I save my emails to a folder on my hard disk by copying and pasting to that folder. When they are pasted they file by subject line. I want to file them by date. At the moment if I want to do that I have to go into the subject line while they are still SITTING in Outlook and TYPE in the date then I can copy and paste them to the folder by date. Needless to say that is very time consuming. Is there another way I can file them to disk by date? Hope someone can help. Regards

If for INSTANCE I wanted to give them to someone or travel away from my own computer I would have to cut and paste them onto say a USB Flash Drive and take them with me, which would leave me with the original problem of them not being filed by date, wouldn't it. Or am I still missing something. Regards JimThe archive.pst file that Outlook creates can be opened by other copies of Outlook elsewhere, so all you need to do is copy one file. It preserves the original folder structure and details such as time/date and sender. Unless you knew for a fact that Outlook was not going to be available wherever you were going, this is the method I'd use. It is by far the most efficient.

I just reinstalled windows on my computer and honestly it got to a part that I didn't really know what I was doing. It was talking about "partioning" which I dont think I want. Does that mean it PUT windows on half of my computer? Im not really sure what was going on. when i would go into computer it would have something extra next to the C: drive, and it had a red bar. Well anyway I re-installed in again and somehow I got rid of that, but now it says I have 72.4 GB. That can't be RIGHT, is it? I thought I had a lot more space before I re-installed. Now I feel stupid for doing that. Is there something I can do?

Ok thank you, what do I need to do when I get to this website?? I am so confused.Did you use the recovery partition or the Vista DVD to do the install?I have been using the OS cd. When it is reinstalling and it comes to the screen that talks about partitioning, it has two selections, drive 0: 76 gb, and then drive 0: dell DIRECT media 2gb (i think) Ive been picking the one with 76 gb. what is going on??? why arent they the c: drive and why is it only 76 gb? thats my biggest problem. i cant even really install anything on my computer cause it says i dont have enough space. I reinstalled windows on my other computer in the house that is running on xp and it's having the same problem also. i know i prob shouldnt have reinstalled windows but it seemed like a GOOD idea at the time.

thank YOUI know of a program called killdisk.com for free that will wipe everything for you but i would wait to see if anyone else has any ideas and use that as a LAST resort. you should be have an option at you partion screen to create a new partion and it will delete the one you already have. don't know how helpful that is but hopefully it helps a little. good luck

My netscape e-mail has stopped downloading my mail from my Embarq site.
Everything else seems to be ok.
When I go to get my mail it says contacting to downloading mail and then a message POPS up saying "unable to write the email to the mailbox"
"MAKE sure the FILE system allows you write privileges and you have enough DISK space to copy the mail box" (have 3 gigs space)
I have emptied the inbox-defraged-checked server settings.
another computer I have set up the same works just fine.
this happened all on its own so do not know why it has stopped getting mail'

Does anyone know how to use Microsoft Rich Copy 4.0 Utility? What is the correct syntax structure for using this SOFTWARE. I need to copy a large volume of files and thought it would be easier to use since it's GUI, but I don't know the correct syntax to use it because I keep getting "The system cannot find the specified path" error. Any HELP would be greatly appreciated. I've read the help file and it does not have a section for dealing with errors. I've also searched the internet for more information to no avail. I've tried to use XCOPY and ROBOCOPY, but I was unsuccessful. I really don't know how to create a batch file. I'm using a Dell Precision 490 desktop with Windows XP. QUOTE

I am designing a “basic” database in work and having trouble with some macros

The database is a record of production. Information is added at pre and post production. ADDING the pre-production information I have sorted. A form is filled in, submit button hit and a new row is created with the information in. Along this row there are gaps where post production information is entered, but trying to GET this information to paste into the correct row I cant do.

I have a form to fill in the information (one each for pre and post production) which I then want adding to the database against the reference number. Converting the information from the input form into the database I can do for pre production, but getting the post-production data entered into the database along the correct row I don’t know how to get there.

I believe I want a search function that takes the database reference number (on the post-production form) and finds this in column A. once this ref number is found, the cell is active and I can to paste the information from the post production form into the gaps on the correct row

Anyone have a clue?
Can you CLARIFY a point here? Your title is "help with Excel macro". Excel is a spreadsheet program, yet you refer to a database over and over and do not once mention a spreadsheet or other terms, such as Workbook or worksheet, which imply Excel. Macrosoft Access a database and is part of the Pro version of Microsoft Office. So, are you using Access? If not, I'm curious why you keep referring to database when you are using Excel, a spreadsheet program. Or, are you using both for that application you are working with? i am using an excel spreadsheet as a database sheet,

I prefer manual updating of my Antivirus/Antispywares & frankly there are No Tasks I have set to run as per schedule!

I have a very strange problem working with a large (14 MB) document in Microsoft Word.
The document has lots of figures which I have captioned and numbered using the usual Insert>Reference>Caption... feature.

When I want to make a reference in the text to the figures I use the Insert>Reference>Cross Reference menu OPTION and this works ok.

However, if the document is reformatted (or even PRINTED), Word automatically reformats the cross references and embeds the figure graphics in the references' text. After this, each figure graphic APPEARS as it did before, but now it additionally is included in the document body text everywhere the figure is referenced! So it creates a huge mess with figure graphics everywhere.

It happens for some, but not all, of the figures, and I can't see anything "different" about the ones where it happens. It doesn't happen for captioned tables.

Does anyone know what is going on? It is very confusing and driving me crazy.

Recently one of my computers acted up, ran slow, took about 20 minutes for XP Home Edition to load, etc. The initial MB logo screen would sit there for quite a spell as would the following DOS type post screen.... then I would either receive a message that requested I insert a START up disk, sometimes a OS install disk, or the screen might simply bring up the XP intial screen and have that little sideways scroll window run endlessly. Eventually, after about a half hour or so, I could finally get XP to boot up.

I took everything out of it, cleaned, inspected, etc, then carefully reassembled the unit, still to no avail. Ran two different virus programs, backed up everything then ran a registry cleaner program, defragged all drives, etc. Finally one evening, I simply assumed that with the violent electrical storms in central Florida, that the processor or motherboard, or both suffered a electrical surge of sorts and that a new MB/CPU COMBO was in the works.

The following morning, all ready to drive over to the local CompUSA store to purchase those two items and start from scratch, BUT I thought (for some unknown reason), I'd start up that computer one last time to jot down exactly how long each screen stayed on before moving on to the next one.

The computer started as usual, normal that is, and went thru the normal boot up process with the fast speed that I've been accustomed to. Now, all is well and I have no idea why.... that is, all is well excepting a minor problem which is the reasoning for this post. I did take in and tame a stray cat that I think is mixed with a mountain lion (huge cat) that likes to climb up on my LAP, and I of course pet this animal...... perhaps a build up of static electricity has transferred to the computer via this keyboard, something of that nature and it simply took time to WEAR off.

Present problem...... after this computer returned to normal, I am constantly being bomboarded with "Security Alert" windows that alerts me that the site does not have a up to date "Certificate" or an invalid certificate. This happens when signing on AOL, or going directly from the desktop to the Internet via Internet Explorer, or when opening any website that I choose to open.... and I know that all of these areas are okay, but these warning windows about certificates keep popping up. I've looked for some time, trying to find how to keep them from appearing to no avail.

Running Windows Home Edition XP. Any idea what I can do to eliminate these certificate security alert pop up windows? Thanks for sticking with ths rather lengthy post. (Joe)You are infected.

Want to prove me wrong? OK, Borrow another PC and use the same internet connection and see what happens. If another PC does it on the same connection, then I was wrong and it is coming from your service provider. Make sure, your computer date, and time are correct.No infection, I checked that out thoroughly.

Somehow the date and time had been changed though. Correcting that matter did help.

I also found that a slave hard drive was acting up, one that I simply use for VARIOUS backups. At times, that slave drive would be okay, and at other times it would not be recognized. I disconnected that drive and the computer straightened out. Strange that a drive would come and go like that.

recently my four year old computer crashed and I LOST all of my data and I had to re-INSTALL all my software. I had ms office pro xp upgrade and when I tried to install it, the computer would not take it and said that there was no qualifying program to use for the update. Is there anyway that I can install this software without having to purchase and install another ms office component? Right now all I have is Works.Sorry to jump in RW, but a similar THING happened to me on my XP Home Upgrade DISK. A shop fixed it for me, but l don't know how, so l'll tag along if you don't mind to see what replies there are.

It doesn't have to be installed...just put the CD in when prompted.
