Solve : CODEC help???

Answer»

Just use windows media player or winamp or somethingIs VLC Media Player and GOM Player just for Video Files and DVDs or can one of them play Audio CDs??VLC = All media

Have you even tried it yet?Are you running a 64bit operating system ? ?

If not why the 64bit codecs then ? ?well I am runing a 32 Bit win xp pro but my next system will still have win xp rp 32 Bit but the CPU will be 64 Bit.

And I was useing VLC but it started to go Nuts.
I USETO use it to go Full SCREEN with the vido Signal comeing in through Firewire.

And it was working but then it stoped working one day and told me it could not open the Device.

Then it never remembered the order I left my music in in the playlist.

So realy nothing was working.
Do you know of any media players that can show incoming video signales and go full screen??You SAID you had a 64 bit os..... Download the 32bitNO I have a 32 Bit win xp pro and a 32 Bit CPU but my next pc will have a 64 Bit CPU but still use the win xp pro 32 Bit.

So if every program is 32 Bit why comeout with 64 Bit CPUs?
The CPU will have to take 2. 32 Bit chunks to make 64 Bit and want that take time??Ok just get the 32 bit. It only matters your os not your cpuif you don't have 64 bit windows, then you can only use 32 bit codec, regardless of whether or not your cpu is 32 or 64 bit.Ya thanks for explaining that a LITTLE better to make more sinceSigh......huh

Solve : Google Desktop Havoc.?

Answer»

Hi,this is my first post so I hope someone can help?
Google Desktop came pre-installed on my Vaio with Vista Home Premium.(AVG 8.5 antivirus running)
4 weeks ago I had this error msg. on boot-up:
C:\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~1\GOEC62~1.DLL is not designed to run on Windows or contains an error.Try installing again or contact software vendor.
I o.k. d the boot-up prog error messages and all was O.K.I uninstalled Google Desktop which I discovered this belonged to but it has not solved the problem. Now every day, every program that opens has this error msg.
I have run Revo uninstaller:CCcleaner etc and installed and uninstalled G.Desktop again to no avail- I can't get it out of these programs.
Has anyone any suggestions as to what I can try?
I have looked on the Google forums and others have the same problem but I could find no answers.
As you can see I am not too confident with stuff but am willing to try anything!? http://desktop.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=10551Hi,
Thanks for the reply.
I have seen the overinstall method and tried that but it has not removed the threads.
Is there anything else I could try?
There are 3 other alternatives listed when you click the link alternative methods...Hi,
-I have no sign of G.Desktop on my computer according to the search I have conducted so there is nothing to UNINSTALL via Start menu or Control Panel.
As I said,I have tried the overinstall and then uninstall but the threads still remain.
Do you suggest the "Using the command line" option?
I think there are files relating to the problem left in the registry (HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\software........)but they cannot be repaired and are stuck there! They may have nothing to do with the problem but it just seems suspicious!Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
by clicking on Download HijackThis Installer
Install, and run it.
Post HijackTHis log.
Do NOT attempt to FIX anything!

NOTE. If you're using Vista, right click on HijackThis, and click Run as AdministratorHi broni,
Hope this is what you asked for.

[attachment deleted by admin]Open HJT, and checkmark:
- O20 - AppInit_DLLs: C:\PROGRA~1\Google\GOOGLE~1\GOEC62~1.DLL,avgrsstx.dll
Click "Fix checked" button.

Restart computer.
Broni,it worked!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thank you so much--you have made an aged PARENT extremely happy.
I really,really appreciate your help.
I feel SANE again.

Solve : Unable to play avi files using media player 10 in vista?

Answer»

Hi everyone

I recently installed Windows vista ultimate Service pack 1 in my system. it is a 32 bit operating system that has the Windows media player on it. The problem that I'm experiencing is about being unable to play avi files using the Windows media player 10. I have another player installed which is VLC and it can play avi files fine. However, i'm wondering why Windows media player cannot play avi files. Does anyone have a possible solution for this issue for Windows Media player 10 being unable to play AVI files? THANKS in advanced, any reply would be appreciated. Install codecs: http://www.majorgeeks.com/download.php?det=5326thanks for the reply Broni, however, i FORGOT to MENTION that i already tried installing those codecs from that website before posting the question here, however same issue is occuring unfortunately. All I can say, I don't use WMP at all, because I think, it's a piece of junk. Quote from: Broni on June 14, 2009, 01:42:04 PM

All I can say, I don't use WMP at all, because I think, it's a piece of junk.
, Does anyone has a different USEFUL answer? Sorry for my terms.Three things...

1. You sure you have windows media player 10 and not Windows media player 11 (why you still have windows media player 10? I thought windows vista came with windows media player 11 default> At least my vista home premium did)

2. try klite codec pack, downloadable from following link below, I have been using it without any problems, and klite codec pack always updated routinely by the guys who works on this pack so it's always up to date.

http://filehippo.com/download_klite_codec_pack/download/8344612420147be04fa1250415ce5d33/

3. Klite codec pack comes with all the codecs you need to play 99% of all the major video types you have and it also comes with media player classic which I personally do like to use. VLC, although not bad, has its own set of codecs with its software to handle the video files.

DEPENDING on how these files were encoded, you might need the DivX or Xvid codec to view them. Also, you could try VLC Media Player (http://www.videolan.org) which will play just about anything.Quote from: quaxo on June 14, 2009, 11:15:15 PM

Oops, missed that part.@Quaxo it's all good, so now, we have to see what happens when the original poster tries out the latest suggestions and klite codec pack already comes with codecs able to play avi files regardless of whether it's encoded via xvid or divx.

@ Gean Freaks ... hope you get WMP to work, again might give klite codec pack a try and also why version 10, when version 11 comes default on vista already?

Solve : QuickTime Plugin Problem?

Answer»

Hi,
I have a PROBLEM I hope someone can help me with.

I am doing some work that requires me to download QuickTime so that I will receive an audio bell signal that notifies me a new task has arrived.

I was first directed to this page:
http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/mark/...pluginhelp.htm

On this page there is also a link (which I used) to download QT 7.6.2 at the Apple website.

At the top of the page is a link that says, "How to play sound from a webpage". I visited that page and was SUCCESSFUL in HEARING ALL the audio sound LINKS marked available for my FireFox browser. It seems the only one I can't hear is the QT one I need.

Things I have done to try to resolve my issue:

~I checked within QT that the Mime setting was checked
~I checked within FF that the plugin was enabled
~I uninstalled QT and reinstalled QT twice
~I tried to change audio settings within QT but wasn't allowed. Maybe it can only be done at the time when an ITEM is being played with QT?
~I banged my head against a wall. J/K!

Things I have:
Windows Vista Home Basic 32 Bit
FireFox browser

If anyone could help me with this problem, I would very much appreciate it! Thanks!Have you checked the volume in Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia ? ?
BTW that link up there is dead...Quote from: patio on June 12, 2009, 06:50:09 AM

Have you checked the volume in Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia ? ?
BTW that link up there is dead...

I have now, since you've mentioned it. I set all of the things to ask me every time what to do with it (the main option they gave me was to auto use Windows Media Player) and doesn't work. I tried setting to use RealPlayer but that didn't work either. It didn't give me QuickTime or iTunes as options to select.

Very strange about the link. It worked the day I posted. But I just looked it up again and got this, which works for me right now:
http://www.phon.ucl.ac.uk/home/mark/audio/pluginhelp.htm
Not sure what the difference is.......

Thanks for trying to help, I really appreciate it!

Solve : Question about Poweriso?

Answer»

I am interested in burning two programs onto a cd, one is an iso and the other is simply a programs setup, is there anyway to make it when you first put the cd in the NON iso program opens and than after you install it the iso opens I don't UNDERSTAND your question. Me neither...only thing I can think of is ....

original poster wants to be able to install the game and play the game all on one cd. Like if you need a separate setup file to install the game but that's not on the play disk (the one you need to be able to play the game itself once installed)I have a couple of question, for the record i have no idea about making programs. First off i WOULD like one program to simple turn off my internet and another to turn it on. I was also wondering how to make a program that simply replaces a fly in a folder with another file, if that is possible. And last, i was wondering how to make a program autorun on a cd.I am sending a realtive a program on a cd, what i want to do is add another program on the cd that will run before the second program. To be more direct i am sending my RELATIVE an adobe program (iso) and i want to install another program, which i have YET to find, to disconnect her from the internet. I want the program that disconnects her from the internet to run first before the adobe program. How do i do this?any idea? Why not tell your relative to just disconnect from internet first so that the adobe program will install properly? That would be easier, unless your relative is not too familiar with the computer.
He is very unfamiliar with computers. I would like to know how any, for future use.

Solve : What's this twdns Service??

Answer»

Hi Geeks!

On access to my services.msc window, I found this 'Weird' entry, though DISABLED with the name of twdns?!

What's the same?...Any Ideas? It means you either have TreeWalk software installed or some leftover GARBAGE from AOL...That is INDEED Right!

I use to have Treewalk DNS Software but not anymore! I rely on OpenDNS these days! Wish if they could set-up a Node in INDIA or perhaps in any other NATION of South Asia! That'll ensure even 'Faster Access'!

But what's the association of AOL with twdns Service? as you quoted OTHERWISE!?

Solve : Some suggestions about streaming radios?

Answer»

New here and I was hoping someone might give me some SUGGESTIONS about an app.I am looking for something that works for recording music from internet radio stations, if that is possible. There are a lot of these stations and it's a bummer not being able to LISTEN to them when I'm not near my pc. I was thinking that there's a way I could listen to their shows on my mp3 player. You may want to have a look at Audacity:
http://audacity.sourceforge.net/

It will allow you to record the audio from the radio station. Oh great, so this works.I'm also curious how exactly does it record the streaming radio. I was rather thinking about something that is easy to use, first of allYou press Record and it records whatever is being played in your computer.

hmm, that would mean that I'd have to pretty much do nothing on the pc while that thing is running?Just open the program, hit Record, and it will record whatever SOUND is played in the computer.Ok, I'm gonna give it a spin. Also googled a bit and found some reviews

http://radio.about.com/od/recordstreamingaudio/a/blrecordinghub.htm

I guess they MUST have tested those apps, so I was thinking of taking a look at one of those also.Tried one from those mentioned in that review, that radiotracker app; does a good job and it just records the station you want not everything that comes through your soundcard. As for the rest of them dunno. Can this one be programmed to start recording or something like that?Something to bear in mind: assume the radio is streaming at 128kbps (fairly standard). Leave this running for EIGHT hours and you'll have recorded 450MB of (uncompressed) audio. Better to grab the compressed stream instead (with something like Orbit Downloader).

And before anyone jumps on me, yes the maths is correct. I've just started using Radio Sure....haven't tried the recording part , but it works flawlessly as a player.

Solve : Visio Question?

Answer»

I had a trail version installed on my laptop for my one class which is now past the date it can run. I wondered if it wasnt possible to uninstall it an try reintalling it useing another key, I hate to PUT it some were else cause it would make it physically harder to do what I need too.Guys seriously help this means a chance at ether passing a class or haveing to take it again an show that I couldnt handle it too my father. The issue is you are asking for help bypassing software liscensing issues...
As you are aware we do not do that here.I'm not asking that I'm wondering if I cant install it again after getting a NEW key.Well the best method would be to try it...was kind of figureing thats what it was going to end up happening.Quote from: squall_01 on June 16, 2009, 07:02:40 AM

I'm not asking that I'm wondering if I cant install it again after getting a new key.

That would be asking to bypass the trial license. Typically, you're only ALLOWED to use the trial once, at which point you need to purchase the software if you wish to continue using it, whether or not you get another trial license.

I suggest you look at purchasing the software if you wish to continue using it. You should know better than to ask a question like this here, Squall.I didnt think it was. Its not like I was going to keep useing it after this funds are fairly tight an everything till I get paid I suppose then I asked the wrong person about my education then.Ahhh, OK, funds are tight.

that changes EVERYTHING!

that it does wheter I can prove that or not isnt possible but I need hardware an I need to get that stuff soon an such.Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 17, 2009, 05:31:11 AM
Ahhh, OK, funds are tight.

Not like he has time anyway.......

This thread might as well be locked like the rest of them. It's in the rules that bypasssing trial software isn't allowed, so why should this one be any different?okay whatever then not going to be happy about it. Not like I was asking to crack the PROGRAM or anything. But w/eQuote from: squall_01 on June 17, 2009, 06:13:21 AM
okay whatever then not going to be happy about it. Not like I was asking to crack the program or anything. But w/e

Without modifying the current installation or its registry entries, you would have no choice but to crack it. A second trial version won't install. So yes, that is what you're asking, Squall. And it doesn't matter if you're happy about it or not. You've just been told by not just one, but TWO moderators that it's a violation of the rules. Why does everything need to be an argument with you?

Solve : GIF help html?

Answer»

I use HTML to make web pages with Animation Files.

I use Coreldraw and Photo Paint to make my own Animation Files.

I will make all my Files and use Photo Paint to turn them all into one GIF Animation File and it works greate.

One thing if I make say an Animation File and the SIZE of the Image is 1. inch High by say 2. inch Wide or say 1. inch High by 4. inch Wide.

I know when I put a 1 inch GIF image on a web page I can use HTML code to make it how ever big I would like it to display.

But if I make a GIF Animation image that is 1. inch High and 72 DPi how big can I make it on screen with HTML befor you see an image loss??Design the image in Photoshop (or Paint Shop Pro ) using the size you WANT to display it on the web page.Quote from: nymph4 on June 19, 2009, 09:01:37 PM

But if I make a GIF Animation image that is 1. inch High and 72 DPi how big can I make it on screen with HTML before you see an image loss??

That depends on a lot of factors. Bear in mind that an image that's "1 inch" high will display at different sizes on monitors with different pixel DENSITIES. At best, the "1 inch" is a hint of display size; it is relevent as a measurement for a professional printing process (although there you'd be dealing with dot resolutions of 1200dpi and higher).

The one thing you should bear in mind is that if you use HTML or CSS ATTRIBUTES to "resize" an image, you are dependent on the browser to interpolate how the image should display. This can lead to different degrees of quality in different browsers. No, design the image at the size you want it to display, for the best results. Then, for web design perfectionism, you should view the results on several different monitors with different browsers. (Variable colour reproduction is the other PROBLEM you'll encounter. A purple can look blueish on one screen and reddish on another.)

Solve : A program that disconnects you from the internet.?

Answer»

cause then we become liable an start getting more of these kinds of question. Admin gets fined and banned an such of that. Also, its just me personally for the time as well.well, just take it easy and I THINK it won't be like that. I don't think anybody wants things to go south like that. No, and I don't see how disconnecting a dialup connection is harmful. ipconfig /release in a batch file.Thank you BC thats all i need to know, everyone is making this into a big argument. were just giving ideas which are all fine, if you wanted to use it but all the other guys were just flaming on it for no apparent reason.read the topic of it a few times, what is the purpose of a hacker to gain control an cause as much trouble for the user. I was THINKING this more on the line of a keylogger and such.A person can't maintain control of another's computer if it's disconnected from the Internet. Trouble? That's possible, I suppose...it didn't seem likely in this case.Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 17, 2009, 09:11:10 PM

ipconfig /release in a batch file.

I don't think that would be as clean as using rasdial (COMMAND line). I doubt it would drop the line.

For dialup connections, the command would be as follows:
rasdial connection_name /disconnectDo rasdial /? for more options.Just to clarify, Rob -- are you recommending the rasdial in place of the ipconfig command? Should the batch file contain both?I tried the ipconfig /release it worked on my connection, but i have a modem not dialup, should i replace ipconfig /release with rasdial connection_name /disconnect?I don't know- are you using a modem to connect to the internet (IE, is a telephone cable going into your PC?) If so then rasdial would probably work better. IF you have a modem hooked to the phone line that connects to your network card then ipconfig should work fine.I am hooked to a modem and the telephone cable is going to the modem so ipconfig works fine for me, my grandma uses the phone line DIRECTLY to her computer, so im guessing she'd use resdialCorrect.

Solve : HP Scanjet 4370?

Answer»

I have an older HP scanner which is INSTALLED correctly with current drivers but when attempting to scan there is no destination available in the "scan to" box.

HP tech support has worked with me on this via email for a week and finally indicated the scanner is out of warranty and dollars would be required in order for them to continue on with the trouble shooting. They also advise me that since the scanner is installed properly the PROBLEM seems to be in some other area of my system (Vista Home Premium).

This problem surfaced last week following a troubleshooting spree with my HP Deskjet Printer. It seems too coincidental that fixing one piece of hardware would immediately cause a second piece of hardware to stop working without some sort of internal software link. (Both the HP scanner and the HP printer are connected to the system via individual USB ports.)

Question: If I purchase a new scanner that is NOT a HP product - one which is current and IN-warranty - would it seem unreasonable to assume that the new product would also run up against the software issue present in my current scanner? The unpopulated "scan to" issue makes me wonder if it is something which needs to be addressed by Vista.

Please advise.
RogerHave you tried uninstalling both the printer and scanner? That's where I'd start. A lot can be said for uninstalling & reinstalling

Alan <>< Hello Alan - I appreciate your reply to my scanner problem. In answer to your question, "have you tried uninstalling your printer and scanner" the answer is no not today. In fact, since trouble shooting my printer problem and managing to get that up and running I haven't touched it for a week. Regarding my scanner, it has been uninstalled and reinstalled a dozen time over the past week with no resolution to my problem.

That said, maybe I should try it just one more time and uninstall both HP components and then reinstall them one at a time. Nothing to lose at this point Plus, I have the sense that while dinking around with my HP printer "batch files" something went awry with my scanner.

Thanks again. I'll give it another try.

RogerRemember Roger if it is a USB scanner DO NOT plug it in until the install software asks for it...patio - Good advice on the USB connection.

Just a note for Alan to say I COMPLETELY uninstalled both the printer and the scanner and then shut down my operating system and even unplugged the ac supplies to both pieces of HP EQUIPMENT. After waiting 15 MINUTES, I re-powered the printer and proceeded with the printer installation. I replugged the printer's USB connection only when prompted. Following that printer installation, I did a system restart. Result was flawless installation with a properly operating printer.

Now I focused upon the HP scanner. I re-powered the scanner and proceeded with the scanner installation and replugged the USB connection only when prompted. I noted that the scanner and associated drivers were completed in good order (as indicated by pop-up box at the bottom of my Vista screen).

Result: Old problem still exists. Trying to operate my scanner resulted in the same problem wherein there is no destination in the "scan to" box.

I'm thinking now that if I purchase a new scanner - say a brand other than a HP such as a Canon - that upon install if the product doesn't work properly, Canon may have a tech support for the new product. Any thoughts?

Alan <>< Hello again, Alan - Wow! Thank you for all your efforts in tracking HP/Vista issues. That was above and beyond the call of duty here. Without sounding the least bit ungrateful, those options you provided have been tried and used during the time HP tech support was tossing emails back and forth. None of the basic fixes seemed to hone in on the real issue - which is perplexing in itself. Near the end of our "free" relationship, the HP techs were directing me to make minor changes to files and commands, often in DOS.

In the end, I am going to scrap both my 2006 printer and scanner and BUY a new all-in-one product for under a $100 that comes ready for Vista. Not certain about the exact brand or model at this time but whatever it is will be purchased locally and it will probably be a Brother or a Canon or a Lexmark. HP may be great, but under the circumstances my love affair with HP will take time to renew. I will go with whichever printer/scanner the salesperson pitches the best .

Any advice on this new purchase decision is MORE than welcome right now.

Again, thank you for your interest followed by your thoughtful responses.

Solve : Reading emails Microsoft Outlook?

Is there any way to read emails in Microsoft Outlook I have copied them from my old computer but can't read on my new one because outlook will not install for some reason.
I have tried to open an EAMIL account on my new computer but it will not hold it, will need to look further into this. I have the emails and address book in a folder on my new computer, I know there is data there. Do you need to have an account to import stuff? Any IDEAS will help.If you have an archive.pst available you can use a 3rd party utility to open the pst FILE and view contacts, e-mails etc, although the only utility I know of COSTS money I think $45. A client of mine has used PSTWalker before with success. Wish I KNEW of a free one to point you to. If you could get Outlook installed successfully and import the archive.pst or your pst file which could be named other than archive that would be the free way out.

Time is an issue here so any help would be greatly appreciated.Yahoo Mail PLUS has the option to backup, but I'm guessing you don't have plus?Yes I do have plus. But I dont see a backup to CD option
Here is something I found: http://in.answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20090609052844AA1BrL2

You could also try this: http://www.handybackup.net/yahoo-email-backup.shtmlYes I see that but I have internet explorer...not outlook. And have been told you cant download outlook anymore without problems. Then try Windows Mail, which can be downloaded with Windows Live.LOL you are speaking to a woman who has no clue of what you are saying. I just thought there would be an easy way to do this or a program that I could buy and install and zip it would be DONE. Thanks for your help but I need step by step and this is more complicated than I can handle. Thanks anyway. Okay.

Here is the LINK to download Windows Mail:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?displaylang=en&FamilyID=ba346005-45f6-4d14-a7dc-51e13d11a950

It does the exact same THING as Outlook, but is not Outlook.
I have found mail on my computer but now getting error messages. I quit. I will just sit here and print the 3000 emails out. Thanks anywayOkay, if you want to wait... Have you got that much paper? Not that I want to do this but I have no other choice as I'm getting error messages and then when I try to download it getting "download failed" and no clue as to why. I'm on a time limit here and thats why I needed to send it to a disk. I just thought i could transfer everything to a TEXT file of somesort and print what I needed.... Never again...LOL . Figured if we cud put man on moon we could send email to a CD....

Solve : question on office 2007 trial version?

Answer»

Hello,

around two months ago i lost Office when i reinstalled my Vista.

So I installed a trial version - i only needed office because of my CV for email job applications.

this trial version expires in a few days.

I COULD try openoffice, i gather that i can import my cv from my trial version into open office, correct?

Will office expire all by itself? Or do have to deinstall it? Tell MS that i don't want it?

Quote from: sandra on July 26, 2009, 08:57:31 AM

Will office expire all by itself? Or do have to deinstall it? Tell MS that i don't want it?

When the trial period ends, Office will simply stop working for you. It will not uninstall; you can uninstall it in the usual way. You don't need to contact MS.

What is "cv"?
cv is short for curriculum vitae, another word for it would be resume.

So, apparently ther's no proper englsih word for it

Oh, I'd say your wording is correct but this is a computing forum and I was not sure what you meant by the two letter (lower case) abbreviation.

Is the CV in Word's .doc or .docx FORMAT? If you have Word 2007, the default format for documents is .docx.
The lastest version of OpenOffice will recognize .docx files. The latest version of OpenOffice is 3.1.0. Still, depending on what features you used to create your CV is Word, I cannot say for sure whether all formatting and layout will be recognized by OpenOffice.yes, my CV is word 2007 and I've just installed Openoffice, the latest version .

How do i go about importing the cv to openoffice? So that i can deinstall MS Office, asap?
You don't "import" it, just open it. yes, this i did, then i saved it, under a different name, but when i looked at it, there was that ms-word symbol.ok, just saw that i can choose the file type

but which file ty should i use best?I believe you should choose the .odt format. It's the normal file type for OpenOffice word processing documents. For the PDF you can use Foxit Reader...FREE.
However i don't believe you can edit it...thanks all

i didn't lose the cv, everything alright!

People don't KNOW what a CV is ok problem solved;

yet, to ROUND off this thread, i'd like to know how it is in general with trial versions:

do they leave some hidden file behind in your registry to prevent you from using them over an over again?

Which, of course, would make sense from a commercial point of view...

Or can you reinstall trial versions zillions of times by just using a different e-mail registration?

Solve : help with Word table of contents?

Normally when updating the table of contents you get the OPTION to either update the whole TOC, or just the page numbers. This feature (a dialogue box that pops up to ask which one you want) is usually available after clicking "update TOC." It has always worked for me in the past on the same computer, RUNNING same software. All of a sudden now it only lets me update the whole table - the dialogue box that ASKS which one I want no longer pops up. This is a big problem for the work I'm doing. Solve : streets & trips 2005?

Answer»

streets and trips 2005 says "registry not copied correctly install in same location as previously installed." It was only installed in one location and repair doesn't work either. At about the time it stopped working my subscription to "Registry Mechanic" expired and I switched to "Registry PC" but I can't honestly say for sure If it stopped working before either of these took PLACE I do know that IE8 and Mozilla FIREFOX won't remember all of my settings. all of these problems started around the same time about two months ago. I really miss my streets and trips.

P.S.
I also have tried uninstalling and reinstalling multiple times.Honestly, one of your first problems is using registry editing software when you aren't familiar with the registry. At this point I'd RECOMMEND a clean install of the OS and of streets and trips.

It's a pain, but honestly, if you're switching between registry editing software and don't know what you're doing, you could be causing big problems. Is this a legal copy of Streets and Trips?

I also agree with SOCRATES, stay the heck away from anything that does registry optimization, they almost always cause more trouble than they fix.yes its legalIf you have the disk then try uninstalling and reinstalling the program.Quote from: Quantos on July 20, 2009, 09:09:01 PM

Solve : Tiresome Job to check Windows Updates!??

Answer»

Hi Geeks!

Though I have ACTIVATED the "Automatic Windows Update" feature still prefer to seldom visit the Windows update site to have a sneak peek at the latest offering!

Now, the navigation to Windows update site has become pretty painful with IE8(unfortunately the only browser WORKABLE with Windows Update Site)! It takes a *censored* lot of time to open the site & another significant time frame to gauge the latest offering!?

Please go through the attachment to scour the 'Very heavy' duplicate processes associated with IE8; Is it normal?...or something fishy goes out here?!

[attachment deleted by admin]This only means you have 2 instances of IE open at the same time...
Are those numbers from when it's updating ? ?I suggest you giving up.Quote from: clleady on July 22, 2009, 06:28:14 AM

Close (and high) enough. Hi KPAC! & 'Hurry Guy'-Patio!

Automatic Windows Update feature only shows the 'Yellow Shield' at the Taskbar & notify about New updates being ready to install.

Moreover, navigation to Windows Update site has become undesirably slow than it used to be with IE7!?

Is is possible to get RID of IE altogether & then make a fresh/rejuvenated install of IE 8? I have once tried the same but it made a REVERT to IE7!

I don't think IE7 can be uninstalled as IE8 uses components of it...
What type of internet connection do you have ? ?

Solve : Recovering from Recycle bin?

Answer»

im so SAD no because by mistake i deleted a file and emptied the recycle bin...
please does someone knows a program that can recover lost files from the recycle bin after its has been emptied?

i would be soooooooooo thankful for your help
HELLPPPPPI use a program called Restoration. I found it on the Internet. Search File delete Restoration. The first link in Google should be to PCWorld.com where I got it from. You'll WANT to download to a drive other than the C:\. It does a reasonable job. I also here there is an undelete in the command prompt somewhere but I've never bothered it.Here are some at http://www.snapfiles.com/Freeware/system/fwdatarecovery.html; I use to use PC INSPECTOR File Recovery...THANK YOUUUUUUUU pcsourcepoint and Yitzach your sooooo kind i will try those sites and programs.....appreciate it...thankss well despite the fact the programs exist... if you run a program like eraser constantly it MAY be long gone :/ but yes there are files that can do that... and also if you... say you deleted the file then installed/downloaded a HUGE file (like 1 gig) it may be harder to recover and still have typos/errors..

Not trying to be negative but its the truth... sorry

SimiKeep in mind that the less you use that drive (install software or modify files on it) the less likely you are to overwrite that file you're trying to recover.
I've used 'active undelete' and it can be run from a thumb drive, it doesn't have to be installed on the drive you are trying to recover.DONT STEAL MY ADVICE... lolYou can use data recovery freeware such as Tokiwa, Pandora Recovery, PC Inspector File Recovery, Power Data Recovery, and other.

Good luck ... If your OS is XP - use one from my signature.

I found this program more usable, than more complicated other programs.

It is fast, very simple in use, and does job of deleted file recovery well.

Just do it immediately, because when you deleted file just now, information is still on disk;

However, the probability of complete information restoration decreases. with time.

For example, if just after delete, you can restore 99.9999% of files deleted, after one hour of work it can be 90%, and after two 86, and so on.

Solve : viewing my computer diary text?

Answer»

I got the computer diary MPD (My Personal Diary) 455 right after I got my first PC in 1995. I was able to view my entries on my first four computers. Then I got a new Dell in March, with Vista, and MPD455 and my next diary were unworkable.
Vista was so bad I paid a guy to reinstall Windows XP on the new computer.
Of my three computer diaries I can view the latest two OK, but not MPD455.
I've had SEVERAL knowledgable people tell me that something is missing on this new computer with Windows XP. I can view the MPD455 entries, but they are garbled...gibberish. I TRIED using Word and converting to different formats, but that didn't help.
And YET, with the MPD455 on a flash drive, I can go back to my old, previous computer (Windows XP) and view the diary from the flash drive perfectly well.
Does anyone have any IDEA what file is on my old computer that allows me to view the diary entries? You had better to UPDATE the vertion of MPD.As far as I know MPD isn't compatible with Vista.

Solve : 0000008e error blue screen?

Answer»

Yesterday I was playing on my computer and then a blue screen came up with the error code something like 000008e came up. it only stays up for about 5 seconds so i dont get to read all of it, but i think that is the right code. After the blue screen, my computer restarts itself. Everytime I go back into the desk top about 5 minutes later the blue screen will come up again and it will restart. I tried going into safe mode and doing a system restore to 2 days before, but I get a message saying "The disk s3a6456d002 (c:) has errors. Windows has detected file system corruption on s3a6456d002 (c:). You must check the disk for errors before it can be restored." there is a link to check the disk for errors. When i click on it a pop up comes up saying the check disk options but when i do them, nothing happens. And it doesnt let me do a System restore. If you are using Windows XP try installing service pack 3.

It's a large download see the below link.

http://www.softwarepatch.com/windows/windows-xp-service-pack-3.htmlI have VistaIt also doesnt stay on long enough for me to do anything really. I tried doing a system restore on the MAIN desktop, but it restarted before I could. So i doubt I would be able to download something before it would restart. What hardware was installed recently ? ?
To run CHECKDISK go to Start/Run and type in chkdsk /r and hit Enter. To see your error in full:
1. Right-click My Computer, and then click Properties.

2. Click the Advanced tab (Vista: click Advanced system settings).

3. Under Startup and Recovery, click Settings to open the Startup and Recovery dialog box.

4. Clear the Automatically restart check box, and click OK the necessary number of times.

5. Restart your computer for the settings to take effect. Here's How To Fix Blue Screen Errors Easily.
I was having the same problems, a lot of FREEZES and system crashes. I had recently installed a additional drive in my notebook SATA, and I thought that was the conflict so I removed it. I had also bought OEM software and thought that may be the problem so I got a Full Retail OS and still the same thing. I kept GETTING messages to check newly installed hardware etc., IRQL Not Equal and to run Scandisk..... I tried everything to no avail, and then it hit me.....BAM!
I upgraded my machine from 1024 memory to 2048
memory, but the upgrade was with -----> GENERIC MEMORY", so i removed it and replaced it with the original memory and VOILA! no more Blue Screen Errors', it is that simple. So those of you who are experiencing Blue Screen Errors I am hoping you kept the original memory sticks from the manufacturer. If i do a future upgrade of memory it must and will be with a purchase from the company that manufactures
the memory that came with my machine. My machine rebooted with no errors and works flawlessly even with the OEM version software, and I had to find out the solution when i spent 100.00 more on full retail.
Get that Generic Memory the *censored* out of there. Not all Generic Memory causes this problem, but if you have Bluescreen errors, you have purchased the kind that does. I ALS did a wipedrive with WipeDrive software for a 100% clean install. The Topic is 8 months old...

Solve : Office 2003/2007 question?

Answer»

Okay, so in my other topic that I started a couple days ago, I recently POSTED that I reinstalled XP (with my files remaining in a temp folder during [re-]installation). Factory software automatically installed after the actual OS was installed, and boot and whatnot. So, once it all finished, I noticed on my DESKTOP, there was a trial icon for MICROSOFT Office 2003...
When I first got my laptop, the serial key was already there when I first RAN Office; and now, it's not there! And I don't have a CD, nor have I ever...
BUT, I have an Office 2007 CD and was reading around and became quite skeptical as to what I should do; whether I should install Office 2007 over 2003, or uninstall Office 2003 then install Office 2007...because I read that if I uninstall Office 2003 first, then I'll have a "better, 'cleaner'" installation of Office 2007; and vice versa, with no effect.
So does it really matter what I do?
Like could I keep Microsoft Office 2003 AND 2007?
Upgrading, or something?
And supposedly, thewell, if you don't have the serial for 2003, there really would be no reason to keep it, I don't think.Haha okay. I'll take a gamble and see how this turns out.Riiiiight after this AVG scan finishes...(goin on 2 hours and 22 minutes now..lol)

Solve : Outlook 2000 Message Printing Quirk?

We are using XP and are up to date on OS updates and using OUTLOOK 2000 (updated too). The question I have RELATES to printing email messages with attachments. In the past (sorry, I can't remember if this worked before or after the last major upgrade of Outlook 2000 had been released) when we printed email messages with an attachments, the icon for the attachment and it's name would appear below the subject line. This no longer works and I've tried checking various options within Outlook.

Ironically, if you do a PRINT preview, the attachment outlook with name shows up, but not in the physical printout.

Does anyone have a suggestion how I could retrieve this attachment icon in a printed message?

Its driving me crazy and i dont know why its doing this on my labtop but not my pc and help WOULD be nice. tyMy guess is the format you're saving the photos in. For instance, if you're saving the PHOTO in a lower bit format (like mspaint's .gif format) it will automatically change some colors so that it matches the color palette of that format.

Try saving the photo as a .jpeg or bitmap and see if that FIXES anything.thank you it helped alot. no PROBLEM

Solve : Not enough memory to print in Winword?

Answer»

XP Home - SP3 - 1gb - HP Deskjet F2280
I think computers were invented just to try everyone's patience and to throw a spanner in the works when least expected! Yet another question, sorry.
Have just reinstalled MS Word 6 (bit old hat l know, but l LIKE all the options it GIVES you over something like Abiword). Try to print a document, says its sent it to the printer and then comes up there is insufficient memory. Close other windows and SAVE work. This IS the only program running!
Checked processes running and cpu is ticking over around 10% with nothing untoward hogging the system. Also upped the virtual memory size initial and maximum, to 2000mb.
It used to work fine a while back. The only difference since was this new printer being added, but it prints everything fine from the internet and everywhere else, just not from Winword.
Any other ideas? I take it you're saving your work as a .doc FILE?

I, too, wonder why the printer should "care"... Check this link please.Nice "catch," Archer...I wasn't even thinking of a virus.

(I probably should never run a virus scan on my brain... )Word 6.0 is a 16-bit application, which I can fairly certainly say is at least partly responsible.

Additionally, Word 6.0 is "immune" to VBA viruses, since it doesn't support VBA.

Only thing I can think of, is to get (AT least) word 7.0, since that is a 32-bit program, but very similar otherwise to word 6.Even better - I knew Word 6 was old. I hadn't thought of it at a "bit" level -- that makes a lot of sense.

The Original Poster might try Open Office, also. It offers a lot of functionality.Sorry for not replying sooner and thanks for all your replies, as per usual.
Funny, l know Word 6 is old but it used to work. However, have now junked it and have installed MS Office PRO 2003 (ok, it's not the latest) but it's got everything l want and Word documents print off fine with no problem.
Thanks again for your help.
RegardsWord '03 is a good choice. yep, word 6 is old, but they sure didn't add a lot after that, did they

2003 is probably the better choice; there is really only so much you can do with word processing and IMO Word peaked around 6.0/7.0.... after that they seemed to have decided to either rebuild the interface every version or add more useless eye candy.

Office 2003 is the version I have on my XP/Vista machines- office 2000 on my Win98 laptop, and my old thinkpad had Word 6.0, Excel 5.0, Powerpoint 4, and Access 2... before the motherboard failed.

Alright, so the scoop is that my other computer that this is all taking place on is an HP Pavilion Slimline s3700f PC desktop, which came with Windows Vista Home Premium SP1. This was running fine and able to connect to web directly wired through etherne(SBC DSL) t and play games and sounds and all. I reformatted the hard DRIVE with Windows XP Home Edition SP1 and now it has a number of drivers missing and cannot detect a connection at all and I didn't unplug anything or move any cables or hardware around either, yet three other computers in the premises are doing just fine picking up a wireless connection(hence how I'm able to post right now). I updated it to XP SP3, but that didn't seem to do anything in terms of fixing. The drivers on the HP website for the Slimline s3700f don't seem to work for XP and only apply to Vista. So I'm wondering if there is any way at all to remedy this seeing as I have no CD for anything... or am I just SOL?

Other important hardware specifications:

56K V.90 Modem
PC2-6400 memory speed
2000MhZ frontside bus speed

Manufacturer # FQ568AA#ABA

I'm sorry for making this entry so long and thank you for taking the time to read this and help.

I thought I'd show the hidden and non-hidden versions of the device manager too:

i had the same thing but eventually found out the driver downloads were getting messed up due to bad memory chip. i CHANGED motherboards to an ecs elite and put an amd 7750 black edition on it, printer and scanner wouldnt work, and the cd for installing it wouldnt load past the manual, had to use the windows printer scanner in xp, computer would *censored* down for the night, the next day it wouldnt reboot, one of the two 2 gb memory sticks was bad, kept the whole system changing back and forth trying to start with bad ram on the board

Solve : Small Business Server 2008?

Answer»

We have a Power edge 2400 dell server running with sbs 2000, with all the client COMPUTERS CONNECTED to it running on a network, we recently got a new server with sbs 2008, I am not able to connect the clients to this server because it has created a network of its own, when I run the connect program on the clients it gives me an error.
The old server is acting as the domain controller, they are both connected to the same router. How do I connect the clients to the new computer now, I am not able to migrate because our old server has no active directly and nothing has been configured on it properly, it has been used as a file sharing system all these YEARS.
WAITING for repliesI've no idea about SBS2008, but SBS2000/2003 were intended to act on their own within a domain. They don't play nicely with other domain controllers. I strongly suspect the same is true of 2008. You will need to remove the clients from the 2000 domain (while connected to that server) and then join them to the new domain with the new server connected.I was just going to send my question as a personal message to you. I was looking into how clients can be removed. I could join one computer by changing the domain on MY COMPUTER to the servers domain, but it does not work as expected, it is recognized as a client, but it says "No DNS entry for this computer is available"Change it first to Workgroup then restart. After restarting, you can move it to your new domain.Jerry took the words right out of my... keyboard. Its just that I'm on the other side of the world. You're probably sleeping when Im awake,

Solve : OpenOffice 2.4.1 for Windows Question?

Answer» HI,

I have Windows 98 and I need to open .docx and .xlsx files.
MS Office 2007 can open these but it won't work on ANYTHING older than XP.
The newer OpenOffice Suites (3.x.x) also won't run on 98.
Can Open Office 2.4.1 (which is the last VERSION to work on 98/ME) open these formats? Its WORTH the TRY.
You may want to read this:

http://www.microsoft.com/nz/digitallife/software/microsoft_office_compatibility_pack_for_2007_file_formats.mspxNo. Only Open Office 3.0 will.

There are couple on-line converters though:

I have Windows 98 and I need to open .docx and .xlsx files.
Where did those files originate? Can you ask the source to send you files in .doc and .xls format instead of .docx and .xlsx? MS Office 2007 can save files in the older format. That could be a solution for you.

what save-as options do you have in Picture-It? have you tried importing the picture-it files themselves into other apps?

Here are my Save As options

JPEG File Interchange FORMAT .jpg

Portable Network Graphics .png

Gif .gif

Windows Bitmap .bmp

Enhanced Metafile .EMF

Tagged Image File .tif

Targa .tga

I have never tried this Save As thing. How do i go about it?

HMM, strange- all of those except EMF appear to be bitmap formats.

You MIGHT have better luck with EMF (you'll be able to expand it no problem), but I'm not sure if you'll be able to move the text around.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 05, 2009, 09:14:06 AM

I tried converting the .png file to .emf and the inserting it into Publisher 2007.
It inserts allright but the text is not movable and quite smudgy

I am wondering if the best way to fix this problem isn't to try and get Picture It to work again. It SEEMS as if it is the only software that supports the .png format.Quote from: progrower on July 05, 2009, 01:05:35 PM

No, your misunderstanding.

the files, when you open them in picture-it- it is not getting all the information about the text layout and so forth from the PNG- PNG simply stores bitmap data. This is why you've been unable to "import" it into publisher.

What about copy-pasting from Picture-it?Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 05, 2009, 01:09:04 PM

Yes, that does work but I have around 500 files that would all have to be change. Surly there is an easier way.Quote from: progrower on July 05, 2009, 01:26:05 PM

You may have to do this the hard way and copy paste each file that you wish to save. I've done some looking and haven't been able to locate a mass converter.
