I am new to the forum, but am hoping someone can help me with my dilemma. I have created a cmd file for one of our systems at work. I need the system to run a series of reports and save them to a SPECIFIC file. See the following example:

This is only a small sample. There are actually 85 reports. Everything works except for the data the reports pull. Each REPORT is saved under it's specific name , but the data in each is that of the first file (0199CHF0168). I can not seem to fix this. Is there anyway to put a command in the TEXT that makes sure each report that is saved contains it's own data. Please let me know if you have any questions or if you need me to clarify anything.

my computer is telling me quicktime failed to initialized error #2093 please MAKE sure quicktime is properly INSTALLED on this computer.

I'm running Office 2003 with Outlook as my PRIMARY e-mail prog.. I import e-mails from msn mail. When I recieve e-mails from web BASED e-mail servers, some of the text is INVISIBLE. I can highlight with my mouse to see missing text. If I right click , and select all , it only highlights the text that is not a problem. This dosen't affect the whole msg. some of it is ok. attachments seem fine. I also have this problem in some applet windows. Any help out there?

Mail COMES in as plain text, so there is no fancy colors, just black text. Sometimes a single letter can be only partly VISABLE

I am using IE 6 with Win XP and auto-complete doesn't work for forms. Passwords are okay. I went to Internet options>contenet>auto-complete and all boxes are checked. Web addresses seem to be okay. I have two current issues I could use a hand with in Outlook 2003.

1. Outlook automatically remembers e-mail addresses, even INCORRECT ones. How can I eliminate those from its "cache" so it won't remember incorrect e-mail addresses?

2. It seems like at some point, anyone I replied to was added to the "contacts" folder. After a reinstall, this does not occur. How can I set it back up?

So -- once I determine that it is recalling a bad e-mail address, I want to be able to eliminate it from Outlook's "memory."

For example, my boss's name is Marc.

When I type the first two letters, "ma" in the "to" field, an incorrect e-mail address pops up as my first choice.

If I scroll down, I can find his CORRECT e-mail address, plus about 6 other entries that start with "ma" who I have e-mailed at some point, and which outlook somehow recalls (but not via the contacts folder, apparently.)

I would like to eliminate the incorrect entry for his name, so I don't accidentally send to that.

If I go to "contacts," there are no entries for his name. I could manually create one, but I'd love it if the software created an entry for every PERSON I replied to, it seems like it would make it easier to manage contacts that way.

Any THOUGHTS?

In relation to your second problem, you may be thinking of an option in Outlook Express, not Outlook. This is a direct quote from Outlook 2003's help pages: "In Outlook, there isn't an option to have contact information automatically added to Contacts or Address Book when you reply to them."OK, so these addresses that popup when you type the first few letters of an email address are not in your Contacts, as I understand it. They seem to be stored in a cache.

I suggest you try this; even if it does not help, it may be a step in the PROCESS of eliminating possible causes. Download CCleaner and run an Applications scan, being sure to include Office.

EDIT: Ah, I see Rob just posted, and I suspect he has the solution. Try his suggestion first.Outstanding! Thanks for the help. Sometimes the solution to a problem is right in front of your face. I must've tried every other "simple" way to delete without pressing "delete." Thanks very much.

As for the "contacts," that's too bad - seems like cool functionality to me - but you're right, it may be that I used an earlier version of Outlook before, and have used OE in the past as well.

CCleaner would probably also remove those email addresses but it would remove all of them. It would also remove other cache stored items in Office apps such as the most recently opened files that appear when you have Word or Excel open and click on File.

Once in a while it happens and only when outlook is open. It can be for 5 minutes or sometimes a few hours.If it only happens when Outlook is trying to connect to the Comcast mail server, have you CONTACTED them about the issues you've been having connecting to them? Usually, you get that request for a username and password when there is a problem communicating with the mail server. If all your account settings are correct, you shouldn't be experiencing any problems...unless there is a problem with the mail server.

I recently did something real dumb. I make t-shirts and recently finished up the design on one. It was saved and ready to go to print, but I had not backed it up yet on cd. ( This is the really dumb thing I didn't do ) I was emailing the FILE to a FRIEND in .psd format for him to look at and I scaled it down from 16"T x 14"W @ 200dpi. to 5 3/4"T x 5"W for him to look at. As I said earlier, I had not backed it up yet to cd. I saved it and sent it. Not long after saving, I realized what I had done. I do not have any other copies of it other than a high res. print out I did on 8 1/2" x 11" glossy. It doesn't look horrible, but there is a noticeable difference in quality now. I have tried everything I can do to restore it back to the way it was, but nothing seems to work. Is there some trick I do not know of, or is there any way I can go back into a memory cache? of a few days prior and GET it? I realize I may have to re-create most of it if not all, but I would really LIKE to not have to do that. I know I can scan in the high res. print, but I will still have to go and re-do color seperations again..thus re-doing the file. I am being too optimistic and hopeful in thinking it is still in some sort of cache or something?

I have a PC. 1.8gHz P4. 80gig HD. Win XP Pro. Photoshop 7.

Please, if anyone has any kind of good news or can help me out...please do so. As we speak, I am re-updating all of my backup cd's so this will not HAPPEN again, I just don't want to have to re-create this thing. I have way to many hours in it to do that.

Hi, I NEED to have a program (MS Outlook) close at a certain time if it's open. Is there a way to write a batch file to quit the program if it's open or exit and do nothing if it isn't open? As far as the certain time, I can schedule the batch file run automatically in the Scheduled Tasks whenever I WANT. How would I go about the batch file?

That worked perfectly. The problem I had was that when Outlook remained open on that workstation, our daily backup would fail. Now it looks LIKE it will be fine.

Actually, it solved two problems at once. We'd had trouble with our spam filter plug-in not filtering out spam because when we closed Outlook with the X, the plug-in would terminate, but the OUTLOOK.EXE process wouldn't terminate. Consequently e-mails would still come in that wouldn't get filtered.

But, the Outlook process will kill automatically now and solve this and my first problem.

I'm having a PROBLEM running an applet.

It's for a share trading platform.

I wait for it to load and it TAKES ages. A message reading Applet jclient / LoginFrame started appears in the bottom left of the screen. It then asks me to verify a security certificate which I do and then it takes ages again and I get the message: Fatal error: one of the following jar files is missing from the classpath pluginsupport.jar. Please make sure you run the application from the shortcut that was installed on your desktop or on the Start menu when you upgraded. This program will now terminate.

Which it duly does! The Java sun turns into a small grey box.
But I don't have Java on my start menu or on my desktop, except to install. I've tried it with no FIREWALL. And I have the new version of java runtime.

I hope you can help me as I don't know a lot about computers and I've spent about 5 hours this morning trying to muddle through various forums in search of an answer. But to no avail!! And I'm going to break for lunch now before I throw the monitor out the window

The Java, if properly installed, should run automatically. There is nothing to start before you want to run it.

Go to IE Tools/Internet Options/Advanced and scroll down to see if Java is enabled. Check it if not. Reboot and TRY again.
The problem might be with the browser and not with Java. Try using the IE repair tool. I installed Java using the Firefox browser and had to USE the IE repair tool before IE would use it properly.Thanks everybody,

My computer seems beyond redemption.
I checked and the java sun box was already ticked under advanced tab.
Anyway the two boxes under were not ( console enabled and logging enabled).
So I tried switching them on, turning off sun box, rebooting. Anyway same stupid error message came up again. Switched back to the way it was, reboot, same message.

Also tried to repair IE. I didn't know how to do this, looked in microsoft, for version 6, it suggests typing
sfc / scannow in the run box. Did this but I keep getting the briefest of flashes of a black box with some text in, but it disappears before I can read it. But I installed java with IE not Firefox.

Java does load automatically but seems to crash out on this particular site with the error message.

Lord forgive me for I must have sinned in a previous life.

Definitely try Firefox. Also try deleting IE's cache - it could be that one of the .jars became corrupted when first downloaded, but is not re-downloading because it's in the cache.Thanks for the advice.

Though it pains me to suggest it, you could uninstall Sun's Java, and try Microsoft's Java Virtual Machine instead. You can find download links >here<. The JVM isn't under active development any more, I don't think, so this is not a long-term solution. Hopefully Mark is right and it's a problem with the applet that will presumably be fixed in due course.

Every time I start my computer, I get a message that tells me to press F1 to resume, or to hit to boot from the network. This computer IS NOT connected to a network, and never will be. How can I get rid of this annoying message? I'm running an Intel (R) Pentium (R) 4 processor, 1.7 ghz. The BIOS version is PT84510A.86A.0012.P01. I've searched the entire bios setup for something that might pertain to a network option, but have been unsuccessful at finding anything even close. In the "advanced" section there's a "boot configuration" option that was no help, and in the "boot" section, there's nothing pertaining to a network.
Any Idea where else I might look?Without a motherboard MODEL we can only guess too.

It's an Intel Desktop board D845BG Intel Type D845BG"F1 to continue" usually follows an error message of some description. Is the "halt on all errors" option enabled in the BIOS?I just searched the entire bios and could not find the "halt on all errors" option. I've seen this on other computers, this one does not appear to have it.
This "press F1 to resume" message does not appear to be the RESULT of an error...it's more like part of the initial booting up process. It's as if at the very start of the boot, the bios wants to know if I want to boot from the computer, or a network.What are the BIOS options for booting?Here's how it looks:

Check for any settings related to PXE in the bios and in the nic card properties. Disable any option that relates to PXE. If it is an Intel nic card, check the Intel site for a utility that will allow you to disable PXE.I've come to the conclusion that this problem is way too difficult to resolve over the internet....I thought it might be something simple, but it's NOT! When I looked this problem up this is what they say..

The HTML Admin (HTMLA) incorrectly allows you to enable Require Secure Channel when accessing this resource and Require 128-bit Encryption before an SSL certificate has been mapped to the Web site. The MMC does not allow you to enable either of these options until an SSL certificate has been assigned to the Web site using Key Manager.
Resolution.

To resolve this problem, assign an SSL certificate to the Web site using the MMC...

I'm running Windows 2000 Pro and lately any time I ACCESS a web page with a larger java script or flash it freezes my browser (both IE 6 and Mozilla). A few MOMENTS later, the whole system freezes and I need to reboot. Any suggestions? This just happened out of the blue; if anyone can help, I'd be appreciative and can supply further info.

I've got a Dell Latitude C800 that I loaded MS XP Proffesional onto. When I start the computer, the initial screen I see is about 1/4 the size of the entire monitor...as the program loads, the monitor eventually INCREASES to full size...however I end up with a 1/4" blank space at the bottom of my screen which I suspect is caused by something that has to do with the initial small size screen.
On page one of my bios version A19, my video controller is an ATI M4. On page four, my primary video is set to system...I tried the docking option to no avail. Any suggestions? THANKS!Did you install the correct video drivers for that machine? If not it will never work correctly.

Where it says "Download Now"I downloaded the driver from the site you sent and installed it....it didn't change anyting at all. I still get a 5 inch by 3 inch Dell "splash screen" and the initial Win XP "splash screen" ( with progress meter ) is the same size. This is on a 15 inch monitor. I'm pretty sure it has something to do with the bios, or motherboard...I switced hard drives, reloaded XP, and it still does the same thing. I really don't care about the boot-up, but I end up with a 1/4 inch blank space at the bottom of the screen that really bugs me!Is that a real XP CD? You do need to have the video set to "system" rather than "docking" unless you are using a docking station.

I have a typical MICROSOFT problem... I made personal folder files (.pst) for my old emails and addresses in Outlook 2003 to import these in Outlook 2002. But now I can't import my emails and addresses in Outlook 2002. Now is my question to anyone of you: Is there a way to import Outlook 2003. pst files in Outlook 2002?? Or does anyone know an internetsite where I can upgrade my Outlook 2002 in Outlook 2003 for FREE???

Moving THINGS backwards is frequestly not possible. I wouldn't count on that for a solution. If you can't use them, then they have changed the file format.

Looks like Microsoft has forced you into an upgrade.I agree with GX1_MAN. You might try EXPORTING your addresses/contacts to a Comma Separated Value file and then see whether you can import it into Outlook 2002. I don't know whether this would work with email messages; I can see how it would work with Contacts, but not with email.All versions of Outlook understand the VCF format, so that would be a good import/export format CHOICE for im/exporting your contacts.In Outlook 2003, I don't see VCF as an option for exporting. Can't import VCF if you can't export to it first, rigtht?Oops. Yes, slightly tricky in '03:

Basically when I play old games on my PC (example: tie FIGHTER) I can get the sound to work, although it is often a little distorted, but the music won't play at all. This is a shame for me cos I LOVE the music It uses MIDI to play. When I go to the sound card setup OBVIOUSLY my sound blaster live isn't listed there, and none of the others will work.

I did actually get it to work once under the 'general MIDI' and setting the tie fighter program to run under win95 compatibility mode, but every time I've tried since the loading screen freezes and I have to set the music sound card to 'none' for the game to work.

Compatibility mode is great when it works, but when it doesn't.....

Try VDM sound. Once installed, right click the program exe and click load/run with VDM sound. The Firefox add search engine button doesn't seem to work.

I recall it working fine in 0.9.0, I did not use it in 0.9.1 but now that i have 0.9.2 installed it just won't work. When I click on it, nothing happens. I have reinstalled Firefox but that does not seem to work.

I am a MAJOR fan of firefox, better than sliced bread as far as I'm concerned and I had a QUICK read of your problem. I followed what you desired to do and it worked no problem. The only thing I can think of is....did you select 'dictionary.com' or the word 'Dictionary' cos it worked fine for me when I chose the latter. It also worked with Alta Vista. I agree with you that Firefox works very well (However, I did notice a 'Netscape' error that keeps returning on certain websites) but I donot understand why my 'add search engine' refuses to be clicked. It cannot be opened. Not EVEN uninstalling, cleaning my registry and then REINSTALLING will help.

I have a H-P N53210 LAPTOP with the standard Windows ME 4.90.3000. I seem to have picked up something strange. I have a file on my desktop which I cannot move, delete, copy or rename. Specifically (substitiute each function): "Error moving file or folder. Cannot move file: The file name you have specified is invalid or too long. SPECIFY a different filename." I can move it around the desktop but I can't move it into another file. Also it is linked to "My Computer" for some reason. All I want to do is get rid of it. Any IDEAS? There is a post concerning your error somewhere on the forum. Maiktous wrote it. Search for it.Right click on the icon and select properties to see what PATH and program it points to. Locate the program and delete it. CHECK your startup folder and delete any references to it there. If you get an error message saying the file is in use, boot to safe mode and do it from there.Thanks for the help. It was the strangest thing. there it was sitting as a .zip folder on the desktop. Open it and then the file and it took me straight to "My Computer". Somehow, although I am sure I had tried to delete it this way before, I managed to delete the file. Then I ran a cleaner on the desktop and it took a full 15 minutes to work the folder out of the system. Did the same for the R. bin and the recent. But it finally went. Thanks again. Safe mode deletion didn't have any effect on it. It did not want to leave. I wonder if it was some virus or worm or something. Hello, not sure if I puttin this is the right board, but for anyone that can answer this question for me, would be great. one day i was DL some tubes from a specific list i was on, and when i DL one tube.. i got the "open with" promt. i thought it was WEIRD, but i looked at my options and chose the ONLY reasonable option which was "paint". ok.. after clicking ok.. it change ALL the LIKE files to "paint". Now i cannot open ANY of those files with anything b/c they are unsupported. I CANNOT change my "open with" option. i have tried a dozen TIMES. i checked all the olther files i have DL and in properties it says "opens with: unknown application"
how can i get the messed up files BACK to the unknown application. until this is fixed... Has your LICENSE expired? If you can no longer update, it may be because your license has expired and you will have to order a new one. This can be done on the Symantec website or by using Norton. It should notify you when your license is expired, though.

Hi All. I am trying to create a form that records data input from a barcode reader. The problem that I have is that the original number on the barcode label contains 12 digits but I only require the last 6 to be displayed in my form. I have tried to re-configure the reader to truncate the number to 6 digits but this doesn't work so I was wondering if anyone can tell me whether there is a way to do this using Excel or a macro. I am using Excel 2010.

The problem has been widely reported. There does not seem to be a easy fix, other than stop using VLC as the default video player.
(This is not only with Windows 10. And it is not a new problem, just new to me.)

At one time I stayed away for the Adobe Acrobat becuase it was such a memory hog. But now with better HARDWARE the latest VERSION does very good.

My Microsoft Flight Simulator 2002 has been working recently on Windows 10. All of a SUDDEN it will not read my yoke and rudder petals. The air plane either just sits on the runway or slowly taxis to the left. The program in settings insist every thing is running properly. Recalibration doesn’t work as it is not being read. I searched for driver updates. There are none. I have shut down the computer for 5 minutes. I reinstalled the flight simulator to no avail. I have the same results. What have I missed?

I have a Dell Latitude D630 running Windows 7- 32 bit home PREMIUM. Yeah, I know it'a a dinosaur, but it works for me.
I know about media players and making a playlist and burning it to CD-R, but I can't get it to work for you tube.
What I'm wondering is can I copy a track ( audio only) from you tube to a CD-R. Please, bear in mind, I'm 67 and kinda new to this computer stuff ( it's like learning a new language). Well, given your stated usage of music CD's you'd like to create, I suggest you try Audacity. As I recall from past usage of Audacity, it will initially record the sound to a file it creates on your hard drive. Then, you need to open Audacity and use it's menu to burn the recording to CD/DVD. You also cannot do this direct from uTube...the songs need to be saved to the PC...then burned.

Many will be blocked...due to Copyrights.Allow me to clarify and ELABORATE on using Audacity. Any youtube video can be recorded using Audacity; Audacity does not care about copyrights or whether recording a video is blocked by the publisher. The reason is that Audacity is simply recording anything it hears, including any sound coming from the speakers. Keep in mind that recording with Audacity requires a mic connected to the computer. Most laptops have a built-in mic. With most desktop systems, the typical hardware configuration for this type of recording requires the addition of an external mic, such as a USB webcam.

I tested this on a desktop system with a USB webcam mounted on top of my monitor. I recorded a video but, since the mic in my webcam will not record stereo sound, the outcome, i.e, the recording, lacks stereo sound. Also, since my speakers were sitting below, and slightly behind, my monitor, and, again, the webcam was sitting on top of the monitor, this was not the best configuration of speakers and webcam to capture sound from the speakers. If I wanted to do more recording from any web source, I would rearrange the speakers and/or webcam so that they are facing each other rather than being faced the same direction. Some Audio devices have a recording INPUT that comes directly from the audio output. On Creative Labs audio cards the input is called "What U Hear".

I'm pretty sure encouraging or providing instruction on how a user can pirate music through youtube is against the forum rules. Audacity doesn't care about copyright but the forum rules certainly seem to, regardless of the age or skill level of the user getting assistance.

I am an author who is currently working on a PHOTO book that will be distributed worldwide. I bought a flash drive and copied all the photos for the book from Picasa (where I had stored all the photo FILES in folders) to the flash drive this morning, however, while all the photos transferred properly, I don't see the captions that I had placed under the photos in Picasa. I am very concerned about this and was wondering if anyone can TELL me if they think they are there (and I just don't see them), or if they think they didn't transfer with the photos. I would APPRECIATE any suggestions or advice that anyone can give me on this. Thanks very much.
JohnIf the File Format doesn't support ADDING extra information, Picasa will save the caption information within an INI file in a configuration file, indexed by the path and filename.
