I have DRAGON and my microphone has been TURNING off after months of use and I can't get it to turn back on even if I have it set to LAUNCH when I open Dragon. I don't know if anyone else has found this problem, but I WOULD LOVE a solution. I have to set up a whole new profile every time this has happened. This is the third time. Anyone else experienced this in the latest Dragon Premium? Thanks.

Am I missing something? For years I have sometimes downloaded zip files. (PC) You open the file location and select unzip all. Easy enough but then you get a list of a dozen files with different names most of which I have no idea what they mean. I have come to sort of understand attachment or installer. I mean you want a piece of software and you get the zip file but then they leave you hanging on how to proceed to install it and get it running. Like I say am I missing something. Where are the further instructions on how to install? Sometimes using hit or miss I've got it installed but not always. If it's offered to the general public you shouldn't need any specialized training to understand how to get it up and running. Nowhere have I ever seen a guide to unzipping and using those files. Only place I run into stuff like this is with Linux and downloading packages for software in which I then need to research how to install it, such as for Fedora Linux etc.. Or an open source project from github etc that requires you to build and compile the source to run it for Windows.

Is this for Windows? And if so... what software comes as a ZIP file and then leaves you hanging without an installer or a readme.txt file or even install instructions missing?
A Zip file is just an archive. It stores other files. Sometimes software is distributed via zip files and contains an installer package. It sounds like you are describing software that is distributed in a ZIP file already "ready to go" without an installer. You would unzip the software where you want it and run it from there, or create the shortcuts you want. It is not something that requires any sort of specialized training, and I'm not sure where the idea that computers require specialized training to use comes from. They are designed to be easy to learn and utilize; It merely takes patience in becoming familiar with the aspects needed.

For example let's say you want to download a program called Revlar. What it does isn't important, because I just made it up. So the download link gives you REVLAR.ZIP. Alright.

Now as far as the contents go, there are a few possibilities once you unzip it- It may have an installer or setup program, which will install the software, or it might not.

The latter case seems to be the one to which you refer. In that instance typically the software will be an executable and PERHAPS some DLL files needed to run the program; perhaps REVLAR.EXE and REVLAR.DLL. The idea is you copy those files over to a location you want to install it. This is simply something you pick up with time as you become more familiar; you know certain file types are applications, and you see files that run alongside them in a ZIP file and it is pretty straightforward that it likely would need to be moved/installed to a folder via extracting it there.gord99,

The average person should not have to do research to find out how to install something. The information ought to be with the package or else have a link to a web site with the full instructions.
Thank you that's exactly what I'm saying. You download a piece of software. It shows a zipfile. You click and it says extract all. You do that and see several files most of which have no meaning unless you are schooled in file extensions. So you're left sitting there to start clicking on one after the other so you can actually use the program. No further instruction. So I say am I missing something somewhere, did I make a wrong turn? Frustrating makes me FEEL stupid which could be, angry at the program developers. Like you buy a new car and they say ''okay your keys are in that building just go in and get them'' but there's 30 rooms in there each with who knows how many places to look. I'm not a beginner. I was using the web even before html. 1980's or so. There's almost always a readme.txt file...

Most installers would be an .exe...or an .msi file.

Also KEEP in mind when unzipping it's best to create a new folder to unzip to with a unique name.What adds to the frustration is how Windows does not want you to see file extensions. Yes, such things do exist. But hey do not search the whole web. Instead, they search a number of vendors that compete in your area of interest.

Wordpress would probably make the most professional looking site with a WYSIWYG interface. I use to save as HTML Powerpoint and Word documents years ago with MS Office 2000 when too lazy to manually code the HTML, or wanting a baseline website payout and then go back and add to it manually CODING in notepad ETC. I moved on from that to ADOBE Dreamweaver for its WYSIWYG mode and then went in manually and edited the HTML if the WYSIWYG was too dumb to do something etc since my employer had licenses of this software at the time. I used shadowplay all the time for recording. I recorded my last video on surgeon sim. For some reason, after that video, I have been unable to use shadowplay at all. Desktop capture is set to be on but it refuses to start using hotkeys or manually. most of the time I get no status thing. When I opened Surgeon Sim and tried, it popped up briefly with a "not able to record" status icon. After many ATTEMPTS (to no avail) I looked for other screen recorders. ALL OF THEM produced a black screen with only game audio. I was able to change the codec to a SPECIFIC one and was able to get video during playback (possibly more codecs worked but most did not). I would prefer to keep using shadowplay but at this point I don't know if I can even record well without a system wipe and reinstall.

So far I have used a DDU thing to completely uninstall my display driver and geforce experience. Reinstalled, nothing changed. Installed olfer versions, nothing. Changed ADVANCED system settings for best performance, nothing. multiple restarts/full shut downs, disabled AV, etc. Either corrupt display driver still? or mobo/GPU issue? maybe ouput issue? HEELLPPPPP
edit: for some reson, if I open with, I can use windows media player to get video and not a black screen. I honestly have no clue what is going on with this recording software and video playback....Years ago I had an issue like this, but with FRAPS. My cure was to backup my data to an external drive and perform a clean install. I put 2 weeks into trying reinstall of FRAPS, codecs, GPU driver, memory tests, digging in Windows registry because a site suggested a value which had no change, and SWAPPING from nVidia to AMD video card which would also use a different set of drivers. The cause of this I am unsure of, but after a clean install everything was working again so something was corrupt.I appreciate the response, unfortunately I was trying to avoid that if possible. Thanks though, I may wait long enough to geta new hard drive and just do a win10 install on the new drive and all that junk. I used to have a similar issue with shadow play not recording few months ago. Every time I pressed Alt+f9 to record it just showed the green icon with a slash on it (I guess that's the "refuse to record" icon) and stopped. Shadow play was running in background but for some reason it just didn't want to capture anything.

I eventually fixed it by setting the temporary file location to another drive. It was ORIGINALLY set to my main SSD C: drive, and then I set it to my HDD D: drive. Magically it starts working properly again! I'm guessing it's a problem with the temp files, so perhaps clearing that folder would also do the trick?

This is a problem I have never resolved. I can make a GIF images with a white background. No problem. Next I would like ti to have a transparent background. That works, just make pure white the ttransparency color and make sure other areas are not pute white. That works.
Fine. Now the problem. In wome places I can post my GIF image and it looks good. But sometimes the tarnsparacy does not work and the background is black. I then cehck and FIND taht somehow my trasparent white backgroup turned black.
But the editor says that black is the tansparency color. How did that happen?
Who changed by white to black? Why? How? can this be avoided?

If you are uploading the image elsewhere then it is probably being post-processed in some fashion, such as using the PHP ImageMagick library. You have to do a few things properly to have transparent GIFs work and it might not be something that is well-tested on the site(s) in question.Thanks BC,
The sie was stackoverflow. I have never seen a site so HARD to join. If you can figure it out, they don't want you! Anyway, I now have the GIF looking the way it shoyuld. I edited the GIF and reduced the size and used a different format. Acualy, I even forgot what I did, too many permutations. Anyway, it now looks better.'
Oh, now I recall. I gave up on a solid transparent background. I used aswatch I call forest for the background and no transparancy. That wokrs!

I seem to have found what seems to be the original image for the Toucan you are using there and made a 256-colour transparent PNG out of it. The main difference seems to be the branch and the feet.


It's not as heavily processed so I think it looks a bit better. Interestingly, it is actually smaller than a GIF as well.You found the Toucan.

I have an excel spreadsheet that is currently showing all open orders per retailers. The last 6 columns show: Todays date, and then the next working day, next working day, etc. The last column is anything after the "fourth" date past todays date.

So below the dates I have x's that are to FILL themselves in, REGARDING the correct dates. For example, I have an order that was received on 6/30/17, so the x would FALL under the forth working day (not including the day it was received). Therefore the ship date would be 7/7 DUE to the holiday this week.

I have installed free version of EqualizerPro. It has 7 days free trial version. After INSTALLING it my PC goes mute. No sound was coming out. Then I uninstall and re-install it. Now it is working. As it has more than 20 settings but I am not sure it is working properly or not. As for the product- it looks like useless trash. It advertises that it "improves audio quality" Which doesn't make any sense. It seems to be a mediocre software equalizer. Considering the alternatives- which includes the equalizer that is included in the drivers for PRETTY much any sound device, as well as additional options which include free, and even open source projects like EqualizerAPO and It's GUI, it's unclear what purpose or goal EqualizerPro achieves.

It is worth noting, that Probit Software, the company RESPONSIBLE for it, is an Internet Marketing Company. They also require you to provide them your E-mail address and Zip/Postal CODE for their "free trial".

Normally, I'd just report this sort of spam but doing a search brings up a lot of spammers talking about how great this product is and how it improves audio quality, which is complete and utter gibberish; not only does it not do that, but it hardly exceeds the equalizer features of windows itself, let alone any that can be found in the driver software for common audio devices. That sort of trash needs to be corrected and it seems like a good way of doing that is to provide a DETAILED reply about why it's nonsense at a forum that is already well-established on Google which will likely usurp the top results, especially for users investigating it's legitimacy.

So I recently picked up a second 1080 for sli and I've been having a weird issue that goes both ways , if I set the 3D global SETTINGS under sli to Single gpu and set up sli under specific programs under program settings sli doesn't work even though it should be , it goes the other way around as well if I set sli globally and set programs that I know that cant do sli to single gpu it still trys to sli and tanks my fps lower than if it was using only one gpu , please help

~basically I have to switch back and forth on the global profile when I want to switch between sli and single gpu mode because of this~

I needed to download the 64 bit version of java for a video game. I recently had the 32 bit version of java. I then tried to install the 64 bit version but when I tried to open the installer, nothing happens. Literally nothing. I have tried so many ways to install the java. I have tried safe mode, uninstalling my current java (furthering the issue because now I have NO java program installed on my computer), and EVEN tried using programs like ninite to download the java program for me (resulting in the ninite program working, but saying that the java files have failed to download https://i.gyazo.com/1cf8628e839f47172fb1935a300213f1.png). I have tried to use a restore point on my computer but even that won't work, saying that it failed to successfully restore and that nothing changed as a result. I have tried running the program in administrator but that resulted in the same issue of nothing occurring.

So I just recently had a need to utilize the power of my desktop computer without relocating it, and figured I'd give RealVNC a try and see if its gotten any better since about 10 years ago when I used it last and someone hit me with BlackVNC exploit where a password wasnt required to connect to my one system running RealVNC 4.1.0 and someone hit me with the 4.1.0 < 4.1.1 - VNC Null Authentication Bypass .... and yep I got hacked due to that exploit and immediately removed RealVNC from all systems.

I moved away from RealVNC after getting hacked and used RDP for a while. Then switched to crossloop for a while when that was free which its no longer free and then switched to teamviewer, but those require a person at the other end to approve the connection and I wanted to be able to for free connect to my desktop system upstairs from a weak older beater laptop and be able to play some flash turn BASED games when the laptop isnt powerful enough to handle those games.

So for my most recent need of remote system access, I left my Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz desktop running upstairs installed with the most recent version of RealVNC running Windows 7 64-bit on 4GB RAM which is drastically more secure than 10 years ago with multiple security protections.

Then from this weak Intel Pentium T2060 1.6Ghz Dual-Core Gateway MT6707 Laptop with 2GB RAM running Windows 7 32-bit Home Premium I am able to connect to the Quadcore desktop upstairs and play my turn based flash games through RealVNC.

Frame Rate is about 15-20 fps which is plenty for a turn based game. Connection is quick once setup with the connection stored to quick connect after the first connection info is saved. The free home edition license allows up to 5 systems to be remotely accessed. This weak laptop runs very well with rendering the RealVNC connection and mouse and keyboard controls are ALMOST realtime with just a very slight delay.

This Pentium T2060 1.6Ghz Dual-Core trying to play games like Forge of Empires it allows logging into the flash game and then freezes at the loading screen because its too much for this old weak laptop to handle. So accessing the power of a Athlon II x4 620 2.6Ghz desktop through it gives this otherwise EXTREMELY weak laptop the ability to play this game and others through it.

Games other than turn based probably wouldnt work well with remote connection like this though. I havent tested yet between 2 powerful systems to see if the frame rate could be increased or not, but I have yet to see any remote access software that doesnt have a loss between the system casting the video and the other receiving it. There might be a limitation to how much graphics data can be passed over a network and reassembled at the other end in a fast manner. My home network is Gigabit ( 1000mbps ) but most systems are still on 100mbps NICs.

I have a newer laptop that I could use, but the downstairs of my home is high risk for something bad to happen to a laptop, so its best that this older beater laptop be used because if the dog charges through the power cord ripping it out of the laptop or laptop cartwheels off onto the floor killing it as I am sleeping on pain meds, no big loss. I got this laptop for free and wouldnt be as upset as losing my new core i3 laptop. Additionally we own a cat that loves to jump up onto laptops since she FOUND out they give off heat and are purrrrrfect to lay across the laptop smothering it to death and laptop sucking up all that cat fur into it.

Reason for not accessing the desktop upstairs directly and accessing it from down stairs remotely is because the downstairs is cooler in my home than the upstairs at around 65F. Where as the upstairs is 80-90 degrees F this time of year and I just had the last 2 of my wisdom teeth extracted from roof of mouth and sitting in a warm room makes the mouth and head ache that much less pleasant, whereas the cool air of our down stairs of home is nice and comfortable to be in pain with. So this isnt long term remote access, but for a few days until mouth HEALS and the heat doesnt bother me as much.

Its nice that the creator of RealVNC got it together and made it more secure. Additionally I didnt have to make any changes to router etc. Both systems are on my local network, and the authentication bounces off of their authentication server through port 80. They show checksums and other verification info so you know your connected securely etc. Lastly the password you set up with their website is different than the password to gain remote access to through systems. They even warn not to have these the same. I didnt try putting in the same password for both their site and my remote access because why do that when its foolish if allowed and not tested by them to warn you that you must use a different password etc. So thats the only unknown I have is if you could accidentally use the same password for both and make yourself less secure. The software they had years ago such as version 4.1.0 which is the last version I used before this most recent edition had no 3rd party authentication, it was just a point to point remote access. The problem was that someone figured out a way to pass a null password to systems running listening for a connection and this allowed hackers to quickly find systems running VNC on the DMZ and hit them. I had a single system on the DMZ back then so that i could access it from anywhere while on the road and I thought it was secure with a strong firewall and strong password that would take forever to crack.... well it this blackVNC exploit was instant access to those attacking me and it was a big surprise when i got hit when I thought it was secure. The good thing is that I didnt have anything important on this system that got hacked and was using it for getting around download blockers being able to remote access to this system and then e-mail myself files that I needed to get around hotel and other free wireless internet access content blockers to get whatever files were needed to work at client locations that still had painful dial up or satellite etc back in 2007. Thank Goodness 99% of clients now have DSL or faster speeds so no remote system needed to download and e-mail files to self anymore.

Just now I instilled Google voice for Android from the play store.
It does not work or ELSE documentation very bad.
I can not type in a number to CALL. The documentation says there is a place to type int in. But I don't see it.

I have been having major trouble with my laptop and I was hoping yall could help me cure this issue once and for all. I have a toshiba satellite laptop and for going on 2 to 3 months now I have no sound whatsoever. I cant even run the sound to a bluetooth speaker or headphones they say they are paired but still no sound just a red x next to the volume button on my home screen remains. I am using, on my computer, Windows XP. On my computer I have installed an HP 2506 Color Laser Jet printer several months ago. I am able to print in color using any application (i.e. Microsoft Word, internet pages, e-mail, ETC.) except for when I'm using Microsoft Excel 2003. I have spreadshets with several rows highlight in several different colors, and every time I TRY to print it on the HP printer, it won't print in color, it prints grayscale. How do I fix this? I'm having a very odd issue with my PC, where most of the audio works fine, but *some* DVD's and various video files, when PLAYED through any program (WINDOWS media player, power DVD, VLC media player, etc.) have very bad sound issues where the sound stutters and is choppy. What is so odd is that one video file will work fine, but the next one might have this issue. And if any file has this issue, it has it no matter what playback program is used. I use windows XP and onboard sound, SigmaTel Audio is the maker I think. Also it has Intel Viv Software.

Any suggestions?You have XP...do you have Service Pack 2 installed?
How long has this been happening?
Does this only happen with video files? It doesn't happen with purely audio files?

Ever since we bought the PC last December NEW, from best buy.


Only NOTICED it with video files/dvd's, never audio so far.


I've never updated audio drivers before, nor do I really know how to. Video drivers are easy, I just got to nvidia's website and download one file and run it. But I wouldn't know where to start with audio ones.

To give one example of this wierd problem, I put in my Batman Begins DVD and play it in windows media player, power DVD, and VLC media player. In all of them, the sound skips and is choppy (dvd plays fine on other PC). Then I put in my The Office DVD, and it plays just fine in all 3 players. It might not be the newest, but it may still be helpful.After downloading that file and following the instructions in its readme, during the install of the driver I get an Error: Device Object not present, PLEASE restart computer and run setup again.

By the way, my current driver is dated 06/15/09 and has a higher number than that driver, not sure if that means anything. But I'm unable to install the newer one.

I tried a few random things, turning hardware acceleration for sound down, etc. No luck though.Right-click My Computer and go to Properties. And is your computer still under warranty?I actually had a very similar problem with my laptop. (I have a dell inspiron e1405) But the video and some sound files were choppy, while others worked fine. I contacted Dell and they actually had me uninstall my CD/DVD ROM drive and reinstall it, and I believe they had me make some changes to the registry? (sorry that parts a little over my head) but after I contacted them and they walked me through those things it's been working fine ever since. Have you tried contacting Gateway? Maybe that will help? Sorry if it doesn't, but that's my 2 cents worth....

Running Vista home premium on an Acer e-380, office 2007.


A couple of days ago my Office aps started going grazy. The first issue was
that whenever I TRIED to save any kind of document, applications would
immediatedly crash. Secondly, when starting an Office application, the
configuration WINDOW would open, run through the routine and then a new
window would open TELLING me, that Office 2007 is being installed.

Reformatting is a solution I guessed you wanted to avoid, most people do because you lose all your data.
Anyway, you will need a Windows CD to format and reinstall, try not to lose expensive things like that.

I was going to install vista ultimate, but i didn't need all the glamor so im getting Home Premium, before it said my Nvidia drivers (Forceware 93.71) Wouldn't be compatible. Your upgrade should be fine it will default to a vista generic video driver. Once you are up and running just grab the newest vista drivers from nvidia.com

I hate to say this, But Vista sucks. I tried it and could not wait to go back to XP.

I was trying to clean up my computer and make it run faster. I was in Norton CleanUp and was cleaning up the Start Up menu taking off the things that did not have to open up each time I logged in(ex. Kodak photo program). Well evidently I unchecked something MAJOR. Now the computer will get to the login page, I login and type my password, it goes THRU the motions even shows me my desktop and then logs off automatically in about 2 seconds. Doesn't even load my icons. Goes BACK to the login page.

I am RUNNING a Dell Dimension with XP professional (system is about 3 yrs old). The Norton was just renewed last month.

I was reading the help book that came with the computer - I opened the CPU and removed the 2 prong password switch. Still requires me to login!

I have called Norton help desk - bunch of idiots (worse than me) couldn't help me other than have me use the F8 key during booting and try the safe mode. (still have to go thru the login with the same results) Their program allowed me to make this mess - you would thing that it would have asked me "are you sure you want to delete this?" but it didn't

Yes you can try to type SFC /SCANNOW and CHKDSK /X /F in the dos screen.

I have an Sound Blast Audigy 2 card that came with my Dell Dim 4600. Up until just recently I have had more volume than I can use. I mean it would make my Bass Box rumble. The volume is now about 50% or less of what it used to be at full volume setting. I have checked the Device Manager, Drivers etc and all seem to be working fine, which they would be because I can still hear all music, sounds, audio of any kind. I have checked all volume controls on my XP machine and applications until I am blue in the face. Having said that I have recently installed and been using Vegas Movie Studio and updated some video codec and drivers for my SB card. I guessed that it could only help... wrong. I cannot seem to Roll Back the Drivers now to reset them. I also tried reinstalling the original drivers from the Disc that came with the computer. It didn't increase the volume. I also installed new ram but I can't see that making a difference. The sound is good quality and uses all 4 speakers but it is just annoying that I cannot crank it up when I want to hear the Matrix sound track at ear bleeding volumes like I used to. Any ONE have any ideas. P.S. I didn't know if this was Hard or Soft Ware.Is anything from Vegas Movie Studio loading at startup? If so disable it from loading (it should be an on demand app anyway). Then make sure that all software controls are set to max and use the speaker control for the volumn setting.Nothing from Vegas is loading and I have tried turning off all but essential start up APPS. All volumes from everything I can think of is on full and so is the speaker volume knob. I have tried adjusting all to no avail. That is what has me so confused. I can only assume that some kind of audio codec came down with a video package and that is what did it. But wouldn't a reset drivers or reinstall of Audigy software take care of that... apparently not. Thanks for the suggestion however. Where did the Legacy come from, do you know what it is. As far as I know my nVideo Gforce graphics card doesn't have video capture. Geeeeez this is frustrating. Also my headphone Volume is allot louder than the speakers. I guess I am bound to the headphones for any listening.Apparently Vegas or the codec install changed some things in your setup for the SB. Try disabling the extras in device manager one at a time, starting with the legasy items. They are not normally needed but may be required by Vegas. If that doesn't solve the problem, you might have to reinstall your SB drivers. Generally the driver indicated by WDM is a windows generic, though it may have actually been provided by SB.Well I have just about exhausted my options. I un- installed or disabled anything and everything that had to do with audio on my computer via the Device Manager and Control Panel. I re-installed my SB Audigy drivers / software and then one by one brought things back on line. I STILL have 50% volume. The only other thing was to ask if a resistor or some circuit sound board component could have burned out and let the card still function but not to full capacity. ThomasIf you used percentages for table cell widths, you might try changing that to set dimensions in pixels. I believe what's happening is that you've used the percentage method and thus, the width will, of course, change depending on the resolution, monitor size, and WHETHER the screen is maximized or a smaller window that's being used by the viewer.

I'm trying to play DVD's that I recorder on my recorder but my Windows Media Player keeps telling me that there is a PROBLEM with my screen resolutions or COLOR settings. I've downloaded and installed an MPEG-2 decoder but still no playing allowed. Hi. Perhaps someone can help...I recently installed windows 2000pro with service pack 4 all critical and optional windows updates including, windows IE, media player, AVG antivirus. Other useful programs were installed also as was a INTERNET wireless connection. Just yesterday, I uninstalled a couple of programs and AVG discoverd a "expolit virus". This took a while to ERASE as it reappeared multiple times before AVG finally healed and deleted it. Now I can't install any applications/programs from any drive A,C,D or e. I can view files and folders in all drives, download etc, but once I try to install it, comes up with this message:

I have a microsoft access DATABASE for computer inventory.

I would like to add a button that when clicked, will open a remote desktop session (RDP) to connect the computer that we are looking at.

We have a batch file that might help with this code intergration.

You mention nothing about how your form is laid out
You mention nothing about your table and field layout.


Since Access is just VBA, you can just use the shell() function from within the Button Click event of a form in access.

Without knowledge of your database schema, I created my own to serve as an example.

It consists of a single table, tblComputers, which merely lists two computer names (Field:Compname), as well as some otherwise useless satellite data (the type of the machine, laptop or desktop) (field:Type). I added two entries to the table corresponding to my two machines, record navigation buttons, that type of stuff.

The important bit is the "connect" button I added. The code simply runs "Shell":

Presumably, your database scheme also includes whether they are a desktop or a laptop; (based on the content of the batch file) in which case you could build the computer name to use like so:
