Solve : what software program?

Answer»

Hi I am new here and I am looking for some help. I have a small business and am looking for a software program. I have been looking at neatdesk, but can't seem to find the answers to questions, which would make all the difference. I need a program that can scan in documents, then file them to different folders. It would also need to cross-reference. Example, I make a folder for each job we have, another folder for each employee, then another one for all materials, equipment that the employees purchase using a PO no. Right now I have 20 paper files scattered on the floor while I try to match them up. I need to verify the purchase, with the job folder and the employee. Everything has to be accounted for and everything has to fit, like a puzzle coming together. I have Peachtree accounting software, but that is only good for invoicing, closing out invoices, writing checks and quotes. It doesn't have the above functions I am looking for to make my business easy to manage. I hope someone has some ideas. Thanks in advance. It might help to assist if the following question can be answered. Do you want each employee to input their own data to a common source from their own point of ACCESS,IE their computer terminal. Or do you want all the data presented to another employee that becomes responsible for entering the data on behalf of the pertinent individual?truenorthGood question. For now we are quite small with a budget to match. It would be great to have the first option, but for the time being it would be myself entering the data.Hopefully others will chime in with other ideas and suggestions for you. I am NOT a user of these type of programs but i can certainly IMAGINE that many are. I would suggest that you read up on a few software programs to see if they can meet your goals. Here is a link to compare "Quickbooks" and "Quicken for small Business"
http://www.smallbusinessfinancetips.com/quicken-vs-quickbooks.html
It also occurs to me that Excel (a component of Microsoft Office) may offer that which you seek. I am not sure that you will be able to find a single software that will do all you desire it may take a combination. I would like to see others input on that.
Without any basis of experience it occurs to me that this aspect "I need a program that can scan in documents, then file them to different folders." may be a problem. Once scanned in there would be a need for a program to be able to identify who's it is/what it represents/and where it needs to go. So there would be a need (i imagine) for the input (that which is scanned) to be coded prior to a scan that would enable some software to use the coding to determine and assign it appropriately to your desired result. I hope that this reply will generate more input from others to assist you.truenorth You have been most helpful and thank you. I did some research and came up with a few options for my specific business, which is construction. I suppose I should have said that in the first place. I found a few and am getting some demos on them. One is Job power, which OFFERS a scanning program with it that sounds EXACTLY what I am looking for. Another is Sage Masterbuilder. I just have to find out the pros and cons. I have been using Peachtree accounting software, but need to upgrade. I thought I COULD keep P tree and find another program to help me assist, which would be much more cost effective. However, there doesn't seem to be anything out on the market that I can find. Any more advise will be much appreciated. Thanks again.

Solve : Accidental thumb drive partition deleted ...tool suggestions to repair partition?

Answer»

So tonight I booted my systems system up with OEM XP Pro CD and saw 2 partitions discovered. Thinking that they were both on the HD I deleted both of them. Problem is that the Thumb drive was detected by WINDOWS installed as a HD even though connected thru USB.

Checked with wife and she has of course work saved on it and NOWHERE else. Anyone have tool suggestions to recreate that partition. I am guessing that SINCE it hasnt been formatted that the data should still be there? And upon fixing the deleted partition and not creating a new partition I should be able to have all her data back?

Seriously cant believe that her thumb drive was detected by Windows XP as a 512MB Hard Drive! I guess the motherboard that is a year old and supports bootable USB devices may be why XP saw it as a HD... GREAT

Lesson learned... make sure all USB drive devices are not connected when going thru a Windows clean installation process!!! cgsecurity.org/wiki/TestdiskQuote from: DaveLembke on September 10, 2011, 11:24:18 PM

Lesson learned... make sure all USB drive devices are not connected when going thru a Windows clean installation process!!!

Don't feel bad. I've done that before too.

+1 for testdiskThanks guys... going to give that a try. Never heard of that utility before but definately worth a shot. I tried a software utility that I own called GetDataBack FAT and NTFS and neither of those are detecting the deleted partition. Hopefully this utility can do it!Well I tried that tool testdisk and it didnt detect any partitions. There was one menu that was confusing and I didnt find the feature documented as well which was it got to A = Add and L = Load backup and ENTER as options, I didnt want to alter this drive in any way, so I just entered to continue in which it stated No Partitions Found or Selected.

I am building up my wifes system clean to a spare HD without altering the original HD, so maybe I will get lucky and she will have temp files there with her projects or something. Or else if gone, I will be helping her reconstruct her GIRL scout stuff since she is a girl scout leader and that's the data that she needs. Maybe she will have some printed copies of some for some of the stuff so that I can OCR it with my scanner etc to re-digitize it for her. Shes not going to be happy with me in the morning..lol

I learned long ago not to blow away the drive if still functional and data can be scattered and needed, so I perform a HD rotation on clean builds so that after the clean build if she needed something that I missed grabbing off the drive, its just a matter of plugging that sata drive back in and booting the prior drive to extract the data and then switch back to the new clean drive. Even when you are careful you can get bitten like I did..lolWell I lucked out! I didnt get the thumb drive partition repaired to acquire data off of it, but I forgot that I created a batch on her system that was part of a scheduled task to perform daily backups between C: and E: and E: and C: with xcopy /s/d/y switches as a sort of backup mirror to always keep the latest and greatest files duplicated between both locations. She had 95% of her important data still on the original HD, so she only has to reconstruct a few documents she was working on recently.

Really patting myself on my back this time for creating that backup mirror between C: and E: over a year ago as a reoccuring scheduled task.

Still have that messed up thumb drive if anyone points out any additional tools to test against it, and have since given my wife a new thumb drive with the same scheduled backup mirror.Try the free Easeus Data Recovery Wizard from here.

Good luck. Thanks will give that a try!

Solve : Windows Explorer in Windows 7?

Answer»

I have just switched computers and now have Windows 7. In previous windows operating systems it was possible to open two Windows Explorers which I found useful for comparing or moving files between hard disk & external devices. Can anyone please explain why I cannot do this in W7? When I try to open the second window, it appears but fails to operate. There's no reason I know of that you cannot open two instances of IE. Are you sure it isn't simply that the buttons on the taskbar are grouped together? Are you opening Windows Explorer by clicking on the ICON for it on the taskbar? If so, to open a second instance of Windows Explorer, try right clicking on the taskbar icon and selecting Windows Explorer.

This is the WAY I just did it...

1. Click the Start Orb or press the Windows key
2. In the "Search Programs and Files" box, type Windows Explorer
3. Press Enter

4. Repeat steps (1) to (3) as many times as desired.

Another way is to click on the Start Orb, and in the Start menu, left click Computer, then when Windows Explorer opens, right click any folder or drive and select "Open in New Window".

Are you sure it isn't simply that the buttons on the taskbar are grouped together?

You can turn this off. Under Taskbar properties you have three options:

Always Combine, hide labels (Default)

Combine when the taskbar is full

Never Combine
I appreciate your advise but STILL unable to get to work.
I have now realised that even if I only open one window and then 'restore down', the page reduces but fickers for 10 seconds or so, then reports 'not responding'.Quote from: wimbletan on September 15, 2011, 01:55:45 PM

It sounds like there is something wrong. Is this a new PC? With Windows 7 pre-installed?

Exactly how are you opening Windows Explorer. It can be opened various ways.Hi Salmontrout,
1) If I do it twice before restoring down, the second window covers the first and flickers before reporting 'not responding'
2) Yes it is a new computer with Windows 7 pre-loaded.

Hi Soybean,
I have tried all of the varies ways to open Windows Explorer as advised by previous suggestions. The result is the same. Personally I think you need to CONTACT the seller and tell them there is something wrong. It is either not set up properly or has a damaged Windows or display driver installation. I imagine it came with a warranty? Have you only just started to use it?

Thanks Salmon Trout, I will contact them tomorrow. I have been using the computer for a couple of weeks, but only discovered the problem when I came to transfer some file from portable hard disk.

Solve : how can I make video personal journal??

Answer»

hello
there are many way to create personal journal to register your thinking. using paper and pen, type them on your computer, record your voice in sound recorder or maybe record your video.
I WANT to make my personal journal in video mode via my WEBCAM, which software can do it for me?

thanks
If you want to record your video SITTING in-front of your web cam then there is no need to INSTALL any other software. In case you have external web cam then you must have web cam drivers and software installed on your system. After that open cam and find video recording button or in case you are using built in cam then your web cam drivers are already installed with your system, so that just open web cam from control panel and start recording video.I guess you could USE evernote (evernote.com) and create a journal with videos only in your notebook.

Solve : Microsoft Windows Update?

Answer»

Reading through the virus/spyware forum logs which is always interesting, and Evil had in one his replies to go to MS and get all critical updates.
Is that correct?
IE8 is now classed as a critical update, but there still seems a few problems with it. Also if added after SP3 it's blimmin' hard to revert back to IE7. I have automatic updates turned off at the moment so l can MANUALLY search all critical updates and decide what l want to download.
Are you saying that l should therefore download IE8?
RegardsYou don't need to download IE8 if you don't want it.Thanks for speedy reply Kpac.
IE8 has only been made critical fairly recently, so if you've GOT auto update turned on, you'll get it whatever happens. That's why l have auto update turned off.
The only reason why l was querying Evils' answer was that the guy he answered would have gone along and downloaded it as it's now a critical update. Hence my QUESTION asking whether l should in fact download it
Out of INTEREST, do you or anyone else think IE8 is good enough to download yet?
Regards
No.
It has caused alot of headaches...i would wait. Thanks Patio & Kpac.
Ignore part of my previous message. I was wrong. IE8 is a high priority update, not critical, so my apologies.
Will go with you though Patio, and will wait for a while.
Anyway, thank you both for replying.

Media Player Classic Homecinema is the one that is currently still being worked on so it'll be getting updated whenever that comes around. The other one is not going to be updated anymore.I am going to install K Lite Mega Pack and install the Classic Homecinema that comes with it.

But I have WINAMP installed on my computer for just my music but if I UN install it will Classic Homecinema play all the Video and Audio that winamp did and my DVDs yes, classic homecinema will play all the video and audio that winamp did and your dvd's no problem. Solve : Can't get conexant CX2388x (Conexant blackbird?) PCI TV tuner to work?

Answer»

I have a Harmonics (Conexant) CX2388x (Also known as a Conexant Blackbird from HP), it was pulled from a friends old HP media center, the only drivers I can find for it are from 2004, they seem to have it installed but nothing is working to initialize it. I do not know if the card works, I do, however, know it did work. I have tried several open source media center applications, XMBC (learned it no longer had tuner support at all), Media Portal (It won't initialize the tuner no matter what I do, and there was a lot of graphical artifacting in the menu's, text stretching across the screen like some deformed ragdoll and such), GB-PVR, and lastly VirtualDub.

Specs:

2.533GHz P4 Northwood socket 478 CPU, 400MHz FSB
512MB PC2100 DDR
512MB nVidia 7300GT AGP 8x @ AGP 4x
Asus P4S533-MX Micro-ATX motherboard, SiS 651 chipset, socket 478, 3 PCI, 1 AGP
320GB WD 3200JB ATA100 hard drive
32x TEAC 32x CD-RW (don't have a DVD burner at the time)
550W ROSEWILL RP550 PSU
Conexant CX2388x (Conexant Blackbird?) PCI TV Tuner
D-Link DWL G510 wireless PCI adapter

And, UH, I think that's it, later on I'm throwing in this old Soundblaster 5.1 Live to see if I can do away with the onboard soundMAX Digital. I've just GOT to make room... Its a bit cramped inside the desktop with that 7300GT's heatsink, might downgrade the GPU to a 128MB AGP 4x nVidia MX5200. Anyway, thanks for any help you may be able to provide.

EDIT: Maybe someone has had this issue before and can help me find some software to work with this card.

Solve : Illegal Software/Downloads?

If you wonder then a quick web search can clear up the fogginess and should answer any questions of denial.

Sharing entertainment FILES and proprietary software infringes the copyright laws in many countries over the world and you are putting yourself at risk of being indicted through ORGANIZATIONS watching over the rights of the authors of such files (i.e. the RIAA for music files, or the MPAA for movie files in the USA) or the authors of the files themselves.

Further references found here, here and here.
I totally agree, evilfantasy. And, there's an organization devoted to curtailing software piracy. It's www.bsa.org. They have some real power to take action resulting in serious legal consequences for violators. See http://www.bsa.org/country/Anti-Piracy.aspx

(Raw material in this case I suppose being disk space). That IMO is the major difference between physical theft and digital theft- the only thing the original owner doesn't lose the item, since the "thief" simply cloned it.
This is the typical FLAWED logic used to justify violating copyrights. If you steal a tangible object, then yep, that's theft, but it's OK to steal intangible/digital/intellectual property. This logic totally misses the point that someone's time and labor was expended to create that intangible property, just as someone's time and labor was expended to create a tangible good. 4...3...2....1.....BOOMpiracy is a natural fact of free market capitalism. I've always been poor; I've also always just had a contrarian streak.

I used to be a shoplifter. I loved ripping off wal-mart etc. if i couldn't affect the diamond companies etc, i could screw with the fence. A few times we worked short games with them. But I was young. Now I just boycott. That's far easier and more effective.

I've ripped off 2 apps, 1 game, maybe 3 movies, and probably over 400GB of mp3's in all. Oh and lots of books. One of those apps I just wanted to try to see if it worked, cuz it was so expensive. I had just read about warez in wikipedia.

I know a lot of people who will pirate and album to see what songs they like, then buy those songs when available. Besides piracy will only force security to evolve. Champagne still flows. I have paid for some, but I've also stole chickens.Sorry patio, rather than reply to that I've gotta beat you to it...

Solve : Open file to run software pop up - How to get rid of?

Answer»

Hey
I was wondering how do I get rid of pop ups? The kind that asks you whether you want to open a file.
You know how before you run a software a pop up comes up ASKING whether you want to run it or not, well every time I press cancel, it just comes up again. Also every time I log off and log back on it pops up again asking if I want to run the program. Its really annoying and kinda worrying too.

Just to clarify because I think what I wrote is kinda confusing.
The pop up SAYS...
Open File - Security Warning
The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?

I have internet security and anti-virus protection if that is of use.

Thanks in advance Not quite sure what you mean....

Can you post a screenshot? What operating system are you using and do you know what file/program is trying to open?
The Security warning you speak of is actually issued by windows itself, and is not related to the security software you have installed.

try the instructions here:

http://www.technipages.com/disable-publisher-could-not-be-verified-messages.html

To Carbon Dudeoxide, you were a bit unsure of what I meant so here's the screen shot of it. It's attached below.

To answer mroilfield's question. I'm using Windows XP and there is two different program it is trying to open. One is WinAvi Video Capture (I uninstalled this but it wants me to install it again) but I'm not too sure about the other one cause it had ____.exe (where this line _____ replaced a bunch of what would seem like random letters to me in front of .exe). I think agtcy.exe is WinAvi.

BC_Programmer
The link you provided was very useful and worked until I turned my modem off. I have adsl. Then it just went berserk.
Instead of 'Open File - Security Warning The publisher could not be verified. Are you sure you want to run this software?' a Set-Up thing comes up and it just keeps popping up. It multiplies as well so now I have like 20+ on the bottom of my screen asking me if I want to set it up. I've attached the screenshot of the program it wants me to run. I kept pressing cancel but it just won't stop. I ended up undo what you told me to do so now I'm back to square one. Is there another way to fix my inital problem or a way to fix the second problem?

[attachment deleted by admin]Why bother? It's not a big DEAL but it does get pretty annoying. I'm also not the only user on my laptop. My sisters find it just as annoying as I do. The way I see it is like 'Why does it keep showing up even though I select cancel? Is there something wrong?' If there's nothing that can be done, then 'oh well' but if there's something that can be done than it would be great :) I'm afraid, you'll have to live with it. I do.
This is not the only Windows annoying feature.Wait a second... Is this a file you are purposely running? Or does this just pop-up spontaneously? There's a heck of a lot of info here..

This one looks promising..

It just pops up spontaneously. I installed it (WinAvi) on my laptop once before but I then uninstalled it, ever SINCE I uninstalled it it just pops up, mostly when a user logs on but sometimes it would spontaneously pop up while we're logged on. If you cross out of it, it just pops up again and that just keeps happening. I even tried installing WinAvi again to see if it would get rid of it but even when it was installed the open file MESSAGE would still pop up asking if I wanted to run the program. Go to conrol panel then go to administrator tool then go to services then go to Security Center and disable it then stop it.

Solve : How do I burn a simple .wmv file to a DVD??

Answer»

I not familiar with video burning software, at all.

My wife made herself a movie with Windows Movie Maker and she WANTS to BURN it to a DVD so she can watch it in our DVD player in the living room. Her movie is currently in a .wmv format and I can't figure out how to use any video burning software...I've read instructions but I can never seem to pull it off.

Could anyone give the basic steps in how to to this? What burning software is it?As of now, I'm attempting to use the trial version of Blaze Media Pro.

Unfortunately, I've never heard about this program.
Try DVDFlick: http://www.dvdflick.net/
It's free, and easy to use.Guide: http://www.dvdflick.net/guide/index_en.htmlthanks! I give it a spin and post back, if I get STUCK... No problem you weren't KIDDING when you said it is "easy" to use!

I made an ISO image of her movie, burned it, and it started RIGHT up when I put it into our DVD player...My wife enjoyed her short movie and I sat back and enjoyed the technological media that I created.......

Is there a way to make the DVD in a way that when you insert it into the DVD player, a menu is displayed, instead of playing right away.......like a store-baught DVD?Of course.
There is no need to make any ISO.
If the movie is in common movie format, open DVDFlick, click "Add title" button, select the movie, wait couple of seconds for it to appear, and click on "Create DVD".
You're done.

I get a message window that states "Windows cannot open this file; it NEEDS to know what program created it." This happens when I click "open" I can't determine what information I need or how to SUPPLY it. Their forum won't answer the INQUIRY I made. it is "ivy generator" you can google it and try it yourself. If you do and you get the same thing, then email me with the process, if you don't have anything better to do. Thanx, [emailprotected]

Solve : Volume Icon shows it's muted while it's not?

Answer»

Ok here I am back again with my sound issues.

The VOLUME Icon shows it's muted, but it is not. I can listen to music and hear everything. But the PROBLEM is that I cannot use voice on skype because of that.

It just happened after i tried something:
Yesterday I watched the video on you tube of how to record a song without a mic using voice recorder. I changed some STUFF in volume options. I ticked recordind instead of PLAYBACK and it wokred, i could record SONGS from youtube for example. But it messed it up I guess. Now playback is ticked back but I'm having issues, just like i described at the beginning.

Please, help guys.
Thank you so much!

I FIGURED IT OUT MYSELF SOMEHOW! YOU CAN DELETE THIS POST. THANKS. What did you do?

Solve : Big mess with forwarding ports?

Answer»

Ok heres how my story goes: I learn about torrents so i tried Vuze and uTorrent. Neither one of them worked either because of port forwarding or uPnP or my lack of experience of both. So I did some researching and I figured it might be my firewall or any spyware remover i might have.

On to another thing: whenever I tried to access Norton Internet security I would get an error message and it would tell me to restart my computer. So I try to update Norton to see if that would HELP. THEN it tells me that Norton can't update because the update is not compatable with Grisoft AVG. SO THEN, I try to uninstall AVG but it tells me its protected or something. AAAND THEEN I saw on a forum that going into Run: and typing in services.msc, and stoping AVG's services might help. So i get in there to find out that theyre already stopped!

Plz...lol plz... i dont really want to reduce myself to begging but i need help ive been trying to fix this for weeks and its very...very......very frustrating and annoying. I will add any details you want me to add just ask.

I currently am running a Dell Optiplex GX150 with Windows XP Professional
Intel Pentium III Processesor with the old HD (about 9gb, 3gb of usable space) that was ORIGINALLY on there and a Seagate 160gb

First off, using TWO antivirus PROGRAMS is really bad idea.
Secondly, using Norton is even worse idea.
Start with uninstalling Norton, using this: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Then, uninstall AVG, and start over.

- Avast! free antivirus: http://www.avast.com/eng/download-avast-home.html
- Avira free antivirus: http://www.free-av.com/en/download/index.html

- free PC Tools Firewall Plus: http://www.pctools.com/firewall/

- free Comodo Internet Security (firewall + AV): http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

If you decide to INSTALL Avast, or Avira, make sure, Windows firewall is turned on, or use PC Tools Firewall Plus.
If you decide to install Comodo, make sure, Windows firewall is turned off.

IMPORTANT! Make sure, you use only ONE antivirus, and ONE firewall. Thanks for the input that stuff will help alot. I cant delete AVG for some reason. Its services arent running but it says its protected. Heres the message a recieve:

Cannot delete avgse.dll

Make sure the disk is not full or write-protected
and that the file is not currently in use

Idk what to do but thanks for the rest I really appreciate itProceed with one step at a time.
Step no. 1 - uninstall Norton
Restart computer.
Step no. 2 - try to uninstall AVG again. If it doesn't want to, reinstall over the top. Try to uninstall again.Ok ill keep you posted with my results

Also are you sure I should do this even though I paid for Norton. Is there some way I can keep the file just not have it installed? Please, do.Quote from: MichaelC13 on February 10, 2009, 08:16:53 PM

I cant delete AVG for some reason.

How are you going about it?

Do you go into control panel and then Add/Remove programs?JJ, let him finish with Norton, first.Nortons almost done. At first I went into Add and Remove Programs and clicked Change/Remove but it told me it is protected so then i tried going into program files and deleting it from there but teh same thing happenedQuote
At first I went into Add and Remove Programs and clicked Change/Remove
Regarding what? Norton, or AVG?i got to end of the installation after 2 days of it freezing up but it tells me i need to find the setup file and to insert the disk but ive looked for both and i dont have themInstallation of what?

Solve : Does anyone have Active@Disk Image HD Backup Software??

Answer»

Does anyone have [emailprotected] Image HD Backup Software, and does it work well when you make a Image of your Hard DRIVE and back it up on an External Hard Drive? I am thinking of using it to make a complete backup of my Hard Drive and back it up to an external Hard Drive. I comes with a 21 day trial version and after you can buy it for $39.95. Buy it...
However i personally think Acronis True Image is better for the task...and less expensive BTW...
I regularly USE Acronic True Image to backup and restore disk images. It has always worked reliably. I like the fact that an image can be restored to a smaller partition than it was copied from [assuming the actual data will fit in the smaller partition]. Not all imaging programs LET you do that.
I haven’t tried [emailprotected] Image, so I can’t compare the two Programs.

There are some freebies, too:

- DriveImage XML: http://www.runtime.org/driveimage-xml.htm
- SelfImage: http://www.excelcia.org/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=21
- Macrium REFLECT: http://www.macrium.com/ReflectFree.asp

No to question Acronis, though.

Solve : no admin powers. please help?

Answer»

basically i have come back to my computer after being away for a few days and my avast home edition needed re-registering. so i tried to do this and it came up with the error:

windows cannot access the SPECIFIED device, path or file. you may not have the appropriate PERMISSIONS to access the item.

so i had a look around my pc to find that i have no admin powers at all. in user accounts it says i am an administrator account yet i cannot add/remove users, install programmes, use system restore permissions etc.

i am running vista home PREMIUM and i have one other user which is the guest. when i tried GOING onto this it again said that i dont have any permissions on the account although this is understandable.

any hlp would be greatly appreciated, thankyou.Legit ? ?
Because this is one of the first symptoms of the new crippling features found in Vista...

I know because i've been testing it for 3 months.you mean legit? and what do you think it is?

so far from help from other people etc i have had to install hijack this, mbam malware and ombofix in safe mode but the mbam and combo came up with nothingout of ordinary. please help.non-legit. If there is nothing out of the ordinary then Vista's crippling features "somehow" got enabled. a Non legitimate installation is one way that this can happen, but I'm pretty sure simple file corrupted can cause. it. Have you run the Vista repair from the Vista CD?havent tried the vista cd because it is back home when i am at university and it would be difficult to get hold of. my system is 100% legit ir should be as i bought it from costco only a few months back.I assume, "Run as administrator" is not present under right click?there is but it has the windows security shield next to the option and when i click on it either nothing happes or it comes up with the same error, no permission.

thanks for your help guys.See, if it'll let you do this: http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/windows-vista/enable-the-hidden-administrator-account-on-windows-vista/

Solve : Can't open SuperAntiSpyware Installer/access user normally (Unsolved)?

Answer»

It's the most recent version, and when I try to open it (I'm installing it in Safe Mode because I can't access it in Normal Mode) and it says that the system administrator has set policies to prevent this installation. What?

I was trying to get ready to post a topic for help on a worm I found called Win32.Zafi.B and this is stopping me

All I could get was HJT and MALWARE log in the second postI think the SuperAntiSpyware Installer communicates with the home server during install so that might be what's wrong.

Try installing and running MalwareBytes from here: http://www.download.com/Malwarebytes-Anti-Malware/3000-8022_4-10804572.htmlPrograms in Add/Remove that seem suspicious to me:
Bonjour
Desktop Dialer
GemMaster Mystic

And I can't get into my own user. I'll click on it, and then it'll just sit there loading. Like it's frozen

I managed to get some scans into safe mode. Here are the Malwarebytes and HJT logs

    Solve : Desktop wallpaper related?

    Answer»

    My OS - Win98.

If I use a high-resolution (32 bit bitmap) image as desktop wallpaper, does that affect my pc's performance significantly? I mean, slowing down of pc, increased load on pc RESOURCES etc..In my experience, using large high definition pictures for my background slows down the loading of my desktop.
If the filesize is small however (less than say 100kb), it should be fine.I have never noticed any difference.
If the screen has to refresh the background it may be a tiny, tiny bit slower.
But.. if you WANT to MAC the sped you can shut off some other things that do slow it down a bit. In Windows XP, right click on My Computer and select PROPERTIES. Then advanced. Look for the performance box. Click Settings.

Thanks a lot for the hints, mates! If the wallpaper has to be below 100 KB, then I will have to use JPEG images. But the system prompts me that active desktop has to turned on if a JPEG is used for wallpaper. But I have a utility running in the background, that is,'TransText'. This utility doesn't work when active desktop is turned on. So I guess I will have to bear with bigger size of BMP wallpapers.

stickerWell, now you should call MDG.

Why did you take so LONG to GIVE this information? You were asked about 5 times.

We need you to tell us where you found the product key. Was it on a sticker, or on the CD CASE, or where was it?

MDG is a Canadian computer store chain, they don't make computers. Many people on the Web say they have really bad customer service, is this why you have not contacted them?

no i had not heard that at all, but if thats what i got to do i will. I was just trying to fix it my selfQuote from: Dias de verano on February 14, 2009, 02:35:01 PM

Wasn't shur what U or ANYONE was asking i gussy I think you should find your sales receipt if you can, but first you should read the MDG XP User Guide book that you should have got with your laptop. It tells you what to do if you get a message saying that your product key is invalid. On page 9. Or maybe you did this already? here is a link to the online version.

Solve : Old family history program not opening?

    Answer»

Hi all, I hope someone can help me open & run an old family history program that used ms-dos. I used it in the early 1990's and has details for approx 500 people. Now using windows xp with all current updates but cannot get the program to open and run. The program was just called "Family History"Open it in Notepad and post the contents here.Quote from: Mr. Google on February 05, 2009, 07:24:17 PM

Open it in Notepad and post the contents here.
What makes you think he can open it in Notepad? I RATHER doubt he can do that. Well, aren't programs that run in ms-dos coded in bbatch or basic? Either way shouldn't he be able to open it in notepad?Yeah, I think you have a valid point there. I was thinking the software probably saved files in some format unique to that application but, I agree, Notepad is worth a try. Thanks guys, I have tried to open with notepad but it doesn't seem to recognise it. When I click "open" there is a black flash then nothing. The original program was on 3 1/2 " floppy disc. I have copied some to the hard drive but it makes no difference. We are talking about "ark" stuff here
most of the work I did was around 1990-1991 and a few entries were made in 1997. So was probably using windows 95 by then! What sort of files are they? What're the file extensions?Hi Mr Google, Sorry but I'm not sure what you MEAN. When I put the disk in "A" drive 19 different files appear on screen one is FAMINIT and another FHS MS-DOS Batch File. On the face of the disk I have written "Family History" "Type:FHS".Have you tried this:

Click start-->run, type "notepad.exe" without quotes. Notepad will open. Put in the floppy disc, and let it load.

Go back to notepad and click file-->open and SELECT the floppy drive.

Have you tried that method? Becasue I don't think a black screen would flash unless you opened it with dos. Thanks very much have opened the disk and found install instructions which i've printed and will try to follow. All of your help has been much appreciated.
Regards PatWhat program are you currently using?
The program is called Family History System and was released by PC-SIC as a shareware program in the mid eighties and we liked it so bought the full version. I am so AWED by the amount of people who do not use Google enough.

    http://www.familyhistorysystem.com/

Are the file extensions .NAM, .adr, or .oth? I did some browsing on that site and you should try downloading the program and opening your files with it.

Unless you've figured it out already. Thanks Mr Google. When I started this request I did not know that the word 'System' was in the program name. However once I opened the program on Saturday I could read the full name of the program and I then googled it and found the site. I have downloaded the info there and am trying to get it up and working on my computer. Thanks again to you and all the others who have helped me.
    PatNo problem...

Solve : I need a Defragger that will put all data to the outer edge of harddrive platter?

    Answer»
Does anyone know whether simply copying a group of files from ONE drive to another will defragment them?
I mean does the computer copy one file at a time, collecting all its fragments and assembling them on the destination drive, or does it copy any fragment of any file on the list and write it as is?

this was a method of defragmenting with DOS before a concerned computer nerd released a defragmenter:

TAKE a blank floppy. put it in B:

take disk to defragment, place in A:

    at prompt:

    Code: [Select]xcopy A:*.* /s B:

    format A: /q /u
    diskcopy B: A:

in short- copying files will defragment them but only if the target disk is empty.
Whilst on the subject of defrag/defraggers does anyone know why a file should show as fragmented in the MFT yet the logical sector addresses are contiguous? This is after running both Smart Defrag and MS Defrag.

    Here's an example:
    Quote
    \cmdcons\autochk.exe
    $STANDARD_INFORMATION (resident)
    $FILE_NAME (resident)
    $OBJECT_ID (resident)
    $DATA (nonresident)
    logical sectors 27481824-27481871 (0x1a356e0-0x1a3570f)
    logical sectors 27481872-27481967 (0x1a35710-0x1a3576f)
    logical sectors 27481968-27482071 (0x1a35770-0x1a357d7)
    logical sectors 27482072-27482167 (0x1a357d8-0x1a35837)
    logical sectors 27482168-27482263 (0x1a35838-0x1a35897)
    logical sectors 27482264-27482351 (0x1a35898-0x1a358ef)
    logical sectors 27482352-27482407 (0x1a358f0-0x1a35927)
    logical sectors 27482408-27482455 (0x1a35928-0x1a35957)
    logical sectors 27482456-27482511 (0x1a35958-0x1a3598f)

ThanksQuote from: Briguy on February 13, 2009, 03:45:42 PM
Ok. Is there a program that can MAKE the data on the hard drive so that there is none or little free space between data files?

Full free space consolidation is good if the only future file activity is going to be file writes. Contiguous space means sequential writes, so writes will be faster.

But if the files in the consolidated block are modified/expanded, they won't have enough space to grow and will immediately fragment, undoing most of the work done in consolidation.

What i've noticed is that my defragmenter, Diskeeper 2009 Pro that has a file sequencing algorithm built-in, pushes some least used files to the end of the logical drive, and the others are pushed to the beginning. This leaves in the middle, a large block of contiguous free space. I think this is a good strategy. But I don't think too much about it or waste time with micromanaging all this...my Diskeeper is set on full AUTO infact.

Don't worry about minor tweaks, enjoy using the computer instead.

    Solve : Computer Mouse Help?

I cannot get any computer mouse to work with my computer. I've tried both USB, and Ps/2 ported mouses and neither will work. WELL to some point they do but what happens it they work fine for 10-15 seconds and then they start LAGGING and then freeze up permanently, which can only be remedied by a complete restart. Virus Scans, Defrags, and System Restores have come up with nothing. Is there anything I can do to fix this? One solution I have found is to completely wipe the hard-drive and then reinstalling your OS which I have done but to no avail the problem persists.

I am using a Compaq Presario Desktop. (don't know what the model is)

    2Ghz Athlon 64 processor
    1.5Gb RAM
    110Gb? hard drive
    500watt Power Source
    EVGA 9800GT GPU
    >I'm sure there are some other things I cannot remember at the moment.
All in all its been a decent setup until this problem reared it ugly head.
As mentioned before I have tried several different mice ranging from USB to Ps/2 ports. None will work.
I previously had Windows Vista 32bit loaded on and have SINCE blanked my hard drive to see if that worked, but it did not. I am using a Sabayon Linux Live CD to get on the computer right now and the standard trackball mouse that CAME with the computer originally is working okay for the moment, but I would like to be able to get my wireless optical mouse to work as the trackball mouse is simply junk.

Is there anything I can do to resolve this issue?
Did you install you chipset driver?I haven't but now its kind of late as I don't have an operating system installed, and I also don't know where to find the chipset drivers for my computer, and I have AMD Sempron not Athlon my mistake. I'm in the process of installing Sabayon Linux and after that I will find the appropriate chipset drivers, and see if that resolves the issue.

I've finished installing Linux and the mouse was still having problems so I 'gently' chucked it at the ground and it started working for the time anyway. Will update again if the problem comes back. I have a feeling that this was probably just a COINCIDENCE as more than one mouse had the same problem.

Solve : Why can't I open any camera video clips.......?

    Answer»

I have camera video clips saved on my computer that I always USE to beable to open, now none of them will open. I click on the video clip, a file download box comes up, reads, Name: Movie.wmv, Type: Unknown File Type. I click run, then a Windows box comes up and reads, Windows can not open this file Movie.wmv. This never happened before, they always opened. I tried opening them in other ways, Quick Time, Windows media Player, nothing. I had a Vundo Trojan one time a had to delete alot of things to get rid of it, could I have deleted something that I need to open these VIDEOS? Thanks......Try PLAYING the files with VLC Media Player:
http://www.videolan.org/vlc/download-windows.htmlYou may have deleted the codecs necessary to play those formats.

Try VLC player as suggested above. It's the best standalone player.

This will install a package of codec an make you able to play most of video format

p.s. You don't need to install media player classic but for me is way better than windows media player
Also add the SYSTEM restore check point during the install. Just for a saveOk, I installed FFDshow and the videos still won't open. I still get that error box, "Windows does not recognize this type of file"What's the file extension ? ?

    Solve : Flash Drive Problem?

    Answer»

Hello everybody. I recently purchased a custom-built MACHINE running XP. I had hoped to use about a half-year old flash drive I purchased to copy information from my old machine (Running Windows ME) to the new one. Well a few days before the new computer came in I copied a whole bunch of things to the flash drive and it was working perfect. When the new computer came in I used the flash drive perfectly with it and copied the information and took it back to the old computer to put more on it and...the computer refused to recognize the flash drive was even inserted into the USB port. It doesn't show up in My Computer, Device MANAGER, ANYWHERE. It's as if nothing at all is plugged in the port. And every other USB item I have works in the port; just not the flash drive. So I put it back in the new computer and it works just fine. This is so extremely frustrating...This is the only way I can transfer my information since my old computer does not have a disc drive in it. I really hope somebody can help me. Thank you!I had a similar PROBLEM. My nephew's pc has winXP, and my pc has win98. When my nephew plugged his flash drive to my pc's USB drive, nothing worked. It seems if you use your flash drive on a pc running winXP, you can't use it on any pc running older windows versions.Have you tried the rear ports on this machine ? ?
I know the front ones are more convienent but give it a go...windows 98SE and ME REQUIRE drivers for removable storage devices such as flash drives. These can be found at the manufacturers website.Or Here...It only works up to xp cause they had changed the codeing thus what the older operating systems were built on is no longer applied to xp and vistaQuote from: squall_01 on February 16, 2009, 02:11:20 PM

Solve : Choppy/ Low FPS Screen Video Capture?

    Answer»

I've tried just about every piece of software out there trying to find something that doesn't give me choppy FPS when screen capturing. My GENERAL settings are:

    30 fps
    Uncompressed AVI
    1680x1050

I have the correct video drivers for my video card which is an ATI 1900xt with 512mb onboard ram and my pc is an AMD 2.5ghz quad CORE with 8gb ram 64bit. There's no reason I should be having this problem. I'm guessing this is boiling down to a codec issue but I'm not sure... Any help would be appreciated.
Hello, and welcome to the forums.
Generally, recording video WHILST GAMING will cause a performance hit.
30fps at 1680x1050 is a lot of data to process - where is it going? In other words, what storage device are you using? That's often a major bottleneck for this sort of thing.
Have you tried dropping the quality settings on the game or recording? Thanks for the warm welcome. Programs like Fraps work just fine for gaming. I'm trying to do standard desktop recording. The data is stored on the primary partition on my standard internal sata hd. Regardless of what FPS I use OR even droping the resolution of my monitor, it always acts like it's recording 15 fps.

When I restart the computer the same window keeps popping up. Why can't I deny the change? Is there something fishy going on here? What should I do?

Solve : All programs uninstall with no effect?

    Answer»

    Hello,
I recently encountered a problem on my computer: Uninstalling a PROGRAM has no effect anymore - it's still there.

I click on "Uninstall", the uninstaller runs and comes up with a success message, quits out as it's supposed to... and the program is still there in full! This problem happens with all programs on my computer.

This problem happened about the same time as I installed Revo Uninstaller, which I think is probably causing the issue. However, I can't uninstall Revo Uninstaller... not VIA Programs and Features, and not via itself.

Also, my avast! antivirus has started to malfunction - it refuses to scan. I doubt these two problems are related, but I don't know.

Please help me - My hard drives are very close to full now and I have to uninstall some stuff. Also:
-I'm using WINDOWS Vista Business 32bit, not SP1
-There is no error message, only a uninstall success message which is false.Try Revo.Read my post, kpac.

Solve : need a programmer to help make me a program?

I don't know where else to go. If there is some other place or forum with people that can help me please let me know. I am also looking for maybe a programmer that can be my friend and help me make several PROGRAMS until I learn programming myself.

But heck, there is a lot you can do with PokeMonI am looking to create a app that puts just legit lv100 shiny pokemon on the game so you will not have to do any editing.and then there's me, training legit with Exp. Share or whatever the tool was CALLED.

And then giving myself level 255 charmanders with the blue savegame editor right at the start of the game.

well I am making a sav file with all 493 pokemon all legit lv100 shiny with the best moves they can learn and I am done with all the first and second generation pokemon and doing the third now but it would be nice if there was a app that had that all preloaded into it. If anyone does make the app I can give them the sav file when I am done working on it.So you want somebody to completely duplicate all the functionality in an existing app just to add two features. Yeah OK, that's a bit silly.

Instead, put in a feature request to those that develop the editor, I'm sure they'll ignore your request much better then we are though.

Anyway, I've only known about the pokemon red/blue savegame editor, all my searches for savegame editors for Silver/Gold (the only other one I've played and the last one I plan to play) came up empty, so I assumed it didn't exist.

IMO 251 is the number of pokemon. any pokemon number above that is called a "transformer".

I think this is going no where, as you just want to brag..."OMGZ I BEAT THE GAME ZOMG LOOK AT MY LEVEL 100 SHINY ALL POKEMON!" Friend : "Mhmm...".I accidentally left all my shiny Pokemon out in the rain and now they won't play with me because they are tarnished

And I know the Lower the Qwality and sound and things like that will make it play faster with people on a slow internet conection.

But if I make a fue secound sound as MP3 or WAV I was thinking MP3 is better because it has more Compresion??

Am I right or how does this stuff work with Background sound???It requires some kind of support. Like a plug-in.
You can use a program that generates the stuff you need to play music or voice in the background. But you may not have a lot of choices about sound quality with some of th ose METHODS. You have to SETTLE for what is available. And it depends on you audience.
A common thing is to just do a java applet and put it into the HTML as an object. Poor audio quality, but with my voice is SOUNDS good.
A popular thing now is to use an Flash thing. It is a SWF file and can be made from MP3 and allows different audio quality.

a set of Frames requires at least three pages- for example, the main page:

    Code: [Select]<HTML><HEAD>

you can't use frames. Go AWAY.
    </NOFRAMES>
