Solve : what software program? |
Answer» Hi I am new here and I am looking for some help. I have a small business and am looking for a software program. I have been looking at neatdesk, but can't seem to find the answers to questions, which would make all the difference. I need a program that can scan in documents, then file them to different folders. It would also need to cross-reference. Example, I make a folder for each job we have, another folder for each employee, then another one for all materials, equipment that the employees purchase using a PO no. Right now I have 20 paper files scattered on the floor while I try to match them up. I need to verify the purchase, with the job folder and the employee. Everything has to be accounted for and everything has to fit, like a puzzle coming together. I have Peachtree accounting software, but that is only good for invoicing, closing out invoices, writing checks and quotes. It doesn't have the above functions I am looking for to make my business easy to manage. I hope someone has some ideas. Thanks in advance. It might help to assist if the following question can be answered. Do you want each employee to input their own data to a common source from their own point of ACCESS,IE their computer terminal. Or do you want all the data presented to another employee that becomes responsible for entering the data on behalf of the pertinent individual?truenorthGood question. For now we are quite small with a budget to match. It would be great to have the first option, but for the time being it would be myself entering the data.Hopefully others will chime in with other ideas and suggestions for you. I am NOT a user of these type of programs but i can certainly IMAGINE that many are. I would suggest that you read up on a few software programs to see if they can meet your goals. Here is a link to compare "Quickbooks" and "Quicken for small Business" |

Solve : Accidental thumb drive partition deleted ...tool suggestions to repair partition? |
Answer» So tonight I booted my systems system up with OEM XP Pro CD and saw 2 partitions discovered. Thinking that they were both on the HD I deleted both of them. Problem is that the Thumb drive was detected by WINDOWS installed as a HD even though connected thru USB. Lesson learned... make sure all USB drive devices are not connected when going thru a Windows clean installation process!!! Don't feel bad. I've done that before too. +1 for testdiskThanks guys... going to give that a try. Never heard of that utility before but definately worth a shot. I tried a software utility that I own called GetDataBack FAT and NTFS and neither of those are detecting the deleted partition. Hopefully this utility can do it!Well I tried that tool testdisk and it didnt detect any partitions. There was one menu that was confusing and I didnt find the feature documented as well which was it got to A = Add and L = Load backup and ENTER as options, I didnt want to alter this drive in any way, so I just entered to continue in which it stated No Partitions Found or Selected. I am building up my wifes system clean to a spare HD without altering the original HD, so maybe I will get lucky and she will have temp files there with her projects or something. Or else if gone, I will be helping her reconstruct her GIRL scout stuff since she is a girl scout leader and that's the data that she needs. Maybe she will have some printed copies of some for some of the stuff so that I can OCR it with my scanner etc to re-digitize it for her. Shes not going to be happy with me in the morning..lol I learned long ago not to blow away the drive if still functional and data can be scattered and needed, so I perform a HD rotation on clean builds so that after the clean build if she needed something that I missed grabbing off the drive, its just a matter of plugging that sata drive back in and booting the prior drive to extract the data and then switch back to the new clean drive. Even when you are careful you can get bitten like I did..lolWell I lucked out! I didnt get the thumb drive partition repaired to acquire data off of it, but I forgot that I created a batch on her system that was part of a scheduled task to perform daily backups between C: and E: and E: and C: with xcopy /s/d/y switches as a sort of backup mirror to always keep the latest and greatest files duplicated between both locations. She had 95% of her important data still on the original HD, so she only has to reconstruct a few documents she was working on recently. Really patting myself on my back this time for creating that backup mirror between C: and E: over a year ago as a reoccuring scheduled task. Still have that messed up thumb drive if anyone points out any additional tools to test against it, and have since given my wife a new thumb drive with the same scheduled backup mirror.Try the free Easeus Data Recovery Wizard from here. Good luck. Thanks will give that a try! |

Solve : Windows Explorer in Windows 7? |
Answer» I have just switched computers and now have Windows 7. In previous windows operating systems it was possible to open two Windows Explorers which I found useful for comparing or moving files between hard disk & external devices. Can anyone please explain why I cannot do this in W7? When I try to open the second window, it appears but fails to operate. There's no reason I know of that you cannot open two instances of IE. Are you sure it isn't simply that the buttons on the taskbar are grouped together? Are you opening Windows Explorer by clicking on the ICON for it on the taskbar? If so, to open a second instance of Windows Explorer, try right clicking on the taskbar icon and selecting Windows Explorer. Are you sure it isn't simply that the buttons on the taskbar are grouped together? You can turn this off. Under Taskbar properties you have three options: Always Combine, hide labels (Default) Combine when the taskbar is full Never Combine I appreciate your advise but STILL unable to get to work. I have now realised that even if I only open one window and then 'restore down', the page reduces but fickers for 10 seconds or so, then reports 'not responding'.Quote from: wimbletan on September 15, 2011, 01:55:45 PM even if I only open one window and then 'restore down', the page reduces but fickers for 10 seconds or so, then reports 'not responding'. What actually happens if you do this twice? Quote 1. Click the Start Orb or press the Windows key It sounds like there is something wrong. Is this a new PC? With Windows 7 pre-installed? Quote from: soybean on September 15, 2011, 10:50:01 AM Are you opening Windows Explorer by clicking on the icon for it on the taskbar?Exactly how are you opening Windows Explorer. It can be opened various ways.Hi Salmontrout, 1) If I do it twice before restoring down, the second window covers the first and flickers before reporting 'not responding' 2) Yes it is a new computer with Windows 7 pre-loaded. Hi Soybean, I have tried all of the varies ways to open Windows Explorer as advised by previous suggestions. The result is the same. Personally I think you need to CONTACT the seller and tell them there is something wrong. It is either not set up properly or has a damaged Windows or display driver installation. I imagine it came with a warranty? Have you only just started to use it? Thanks Salmon Trout, I will contact them tomorrow. I have been using the computer for a couple of weeks, but only discovered the problem when I came to transfer some file from portable hard disk. |

Solve : Can't get conexant CX2388x (Conexant blackbird?) PCI TV tuner to work? |
Answer» I have a Harmonics (Conexant) CX2388x (Also known as a Conexant Blackbird from HP), it was pulled from a friends old HP media center, the only drivers I can find for it are from 2004, they seem to have it installed but nothing is working to initialize it. I do not know if the card works, I do, however, know it did work. I have tried several open source media center applications, XMBC (learned it no longer had tuner support at all), Media Portal (It won't initialize the tuner no matter what I do, and there was a lot of graphical artifacting in the menu's, text stretching across the screen like some deformed ragdoll and such), GB-PVR, and lastly VirtualDub. |

Solve : Illegal Software/Downloads? |
Answer» Quote from: evilfantasy on February 10, 2009, 01:27:46 PM If you wonder then a quick web search can clear up the fogginess and should answer any questions of denial.I totally agree, evilfantasy. And, there's an organization devoted to curtailing software piracy. It's www.bsa.org. They have some real power to take action resulting in serious legal consequences for violators. See http://www.bsa.org/country/Anti-Piracy.aspx Quote from: BC_Programmer on February 10, 2009, 11:25:00 AM (Raw material in this case I suppose being disk space). That IMO is the major difference between physical theft and digital theft- the only thing the original owner doesn't lose the item, since the "thief" simply cloned it.This is the typical FLAWED logic used to justify violating copyrights. If you steal a tangible object, then yep, that's theft, but it's OK to steal intangible/digital/intellectual property. This logic totally misses the point that someone's time and labor was expended to create that intangible property, just as someone's time and labor was expended to create a tangible good. 4...3...2....1.....BOOMpiracy is a natural fact of free market capitalism. I've always been poor; I've also always just had a contrarian streak. I used to be a shoplifter. I loved ripping off wal-mart etc. if i couldn't affect the diamond companies etc, i could screw with the fence. A few times we worked short games with them. But I was young. Now I just boycott. That's far easier and more effective. I've ripped off 2 apps, 1 game, maybe 3 movies, and probably over 400GB of mp3's in all. Oh and lots of books. One of those apps I just wanted to try to see if it worked, cuz it was so expensive. I had just read about warez in wikipedia. I know a lot of people who will pirate and album to see what songs they like, then buy those songs when available. Besides piracy will only force security to evolve. Champagne still flows. I have paid for some, but I've also stole chickens.Sorry patio, rather than reply to that I've gotta beat you to it... IMO should have never been started. *sigh*Thanx EF... |

Solve : This is really Lame!? |
Answer» I'm trying to USE the free audio editor, Audacity. After I'm through editing an MP3 I TRY to save it as a new MP3, but Audacity won't let me export it because it says I need to use the Lame Encoder. So I download Lame and just copy the extracted folder to Program Files, because I can't figure out what else they want me to do with it. Then I try EXPORTING the MP3 in Audacity again and this time, when I get the warning about Lame I try to POINT it to where the dll is that they want. Trouble is, I can't find it in that folder I mentioned. What a PAIN!Download Lame again? It may have to be a specific version from the Audacity sourceforge site. |

Solve : Old family history program not opening? |
Answer» Hi all, I hope someone can help me open & run an old family history program that used ms-dos. I used it in the early 1990's and has details for approx 500 people. Now using windows xp with all current updates but cannot get the program to open and run. The program was just called "Family History"Open it in Notepad and post the contents here.Quote from: Mr. Google on February 05, 2009, 07:24:17 PM Open it in Notepad and post the contents here. What makes you think he can open it in Notepad? I RATHER doubt he can do that. Well, aren't programs that run in ms-dos coded in bbatch or basic? Either way shouldn't he be able to open it in notepad?Yeah, I think you have a valid point there. I was thinking the software probably saved files in some format unique to that application but, I agree, Notepad is worth a try. Thanks guys, I have tried to open with notepad but it doesn't seem to recognise it. When I click "open" there is a black flash then nothing. The original program was on 3 1/2 " floppy disc. I have copied some to the hard drive but it makes no difference. We are talking about "ark" stuff here most of the work I did was around 1990-1991 and a few entries were made in 1997. So was probably using windows 95 by then! What sort of files are they? What're the file extensions?Hi Mr Google, Sorry but I'm not sure what you MEAN. When I put the disk in "A" drive 19 different files appear on screen one is FAMINIT and another FHS MS-DOS Batch File. On the face of the disk I have written "Family History" "Type:FHS".Have you tried this: Click start-->run, type "notepad.exe" without quotes. Notepad will open. Put in the floppy disc, and let it load. Go back to notepad and click file-->open and SELECT the floppy drive. Have you tried that method? Becasue I don't think a black screen would flash unless you opened it with dos. Thanks very much have opened the disk and found install instructions which i've printed and will try to follow. All of your help has been much appreciated. Regards PatWhat program are you currently using? The program is called Family History System and was released by PC-SIC as a shareware program in the mid eighties and we liked it so bought the full version. I am so AWED by the amount of people who do not use Google enough. http://www.familyhistorysystem.com/ Are the file extensions .NAM, .adr, or .oth? I did some browsing on that site and you should try downloading the program and opening your files with it. Unless you've figured it out already. Thanks Mr Google. When I started this request I did not know that the word 'System' was in the program name. However once I opened the program on Saturday I could read the full name of the program and I then googled it and found the site. I have downloaded the info there and am trying to get it up and working on my computer. Thanks again to you and all the others who have helped me. PatNo problem... |

Solve : I need a Defragger that will put all data to the outer edge of harddrive platter? |
Answer» Does anyone know whether simply copying a group of files from ONE drive to another will defragment them? I mean does the computer copy one file at a time, collecting all its fragments and assembling them on the destination drive, or does it copy any fragment of any file on the list and write it as is? this was a method of defragmenting with DOS before a concerned computer nerd released a defragmenter: TAKE a blank floppy. put it in B: take disk to defragment, place in A: at prompt: Code: [Select]xcopy A:*.* /s B: format A: /q /u diskcopy B: A: in short- copying files will defragment them but only if the target disk is empty. Whilst on the subject of defrag/defraggers does anyone know why a file should show as fragmented in the MFT yet the logical sector addresses are contiguous? This is after running both Smart Defrag and MS Defrag. Here's an example: Quote \cmdcons\autochk.exe ThanksQuote from: Briguy on February 13, 2009, 03:45:42 PM Ok. Is there a program that can MAKE the data on the hard drive so that there is none or little free space between data files? Full free space consolidation is good if the only future file activity is going to be file writes. Contiguous space means sequential writes, so writes will be faster. But if the files in the consolidated block are modified/expanded, they won't have enough space to grow and will immediately fragment, undoing most of the work done in consolidation. What i've noticed is that my defragmenter, Diskeeper 2009 Pro that has a file sequencing algorithm built-in, pushes some least used files to the end of the logical drive, and the others are pushed to the beginning. This leaves in the middle, a large block of contiguous free space. I think this is a good strategy. But I don't think too much about it or waste time with micromanaging all this...my Diskeeper is set on full AUTO infact. Don't worry about minor tweaks, enjoy using the computer instead. |

Solve : Computer Mouse Help? |
Answer» I cannot get any computer mouse to work with my computer. I've tried both USB, and Ps/2 ported mouses and neither will work. WELL to some point they do but what happens it they work fine for 10-15 seconds and then they start LAGGING and then freeze up permanently, which can only be remedied by a complete restart. Virus Scans, Defrags, and System Restores have come up with nothing. Is there anything I can do to fix this? One solution I have found is to completely wipe the hard-drive and then reinstalling your OS which I have done but to no avail the problem persists. |

It's just on the screen for a teeny BLIP, then, poof, GONE! What might be causing this? i do not know what has caused this, |

Solve : Why can't I open any camera video clips.......? |
Answer» I have camera video clips saved on my computer that I always USE to beable to open, now none of them will open. I click on the video clip, a file download box comes up, reads, Name: Movie.wmv, Type: Unknown File Type. I click run, then a Windows box comes up and reads, Windows can not open this file Movie.wmv. This never happened before, they always opened. I tried opening them in other ways, Quick Time, Windows media Player, nothing. I had a Vundo Trojan one time a had to delete alot of things to get rid of it, could I have deleted something that I need to open these VIDEOS? Thanks......Try PLAYING the files with VLC Media Player:
Or just reinstall the codecs instead of having many many media players...Try this :http://www.codecguide.com/about_mega.htm This will install a package of codec an make you able to play most of video format p.s. You don't need to install media player classic but for me is way better than windows media player Also add the SYSTEM restore check point during the install. Just for a saveOk, I installed FFDshow and the videos still won't open. I still get that error box, "Windows does not recognize this type of file"What's the file extension ? ? XYZ.___ ? ?And what happened with VLC media player? The file extension is WMV, and I didn't install VLC media player yet, just installed the package of codecTry VLCand now, for some reason on the tenth reply- What OS? |

Solve : Flash Drive Problem? |
Answer» Hello everybody. I recently purchased a custom-built MACHINE running XP. I had hoped to use about a half-year old flash drive I purchased to copy information from my old machine (Running Windows ME) to the new one. Well a few days before the new computer came in I copied a whole bunch of things to the flash drive and it was working perfect. When the new computer came in I used the flash drive perfectly with it and copied the information and took it back to the old computer to put more on it and...the computer refused to recognize the flash drive was even inserted into the USB port. It doesn't show up in My Computer, Device MANAGER, ANYWHERE. It's as if nothing at all is plugged in the port. And every other USB item I have works in the port; just not the flash drive. So I put it back in the new computer and it works just fine. This is so extremely frustrating...This is the only way I can transfer my information since my old computer does not have a disc drive in it. I really hope somebody can help me. Thank you!I had a similar PROBLEM. My nephew's pc has winXP, and my pc has win98. When my nephew plugged his flash drive to my pc's USB drive, nothing worked. It seems if you use your flash drive on a pc running winXP, you can't use it on any pc running older windows versions.Have you tried the rear ports on this machine ? ? It only works up to xp cause they had changed the codeing thus what the older operating systems were built on is no longer applied to xp and vista his XP computer reads the drives fine. His ME computer cannot. The drivers are needed for the windows ME computer- not the XP.oh thought he was doing it the other way |

Solve : need a programmer to help make me a program? |
Answer» Hi. My name is ryan. I need someone or a programmer to HELP me make a program similar to pokesav which is a application that edits pokemon files as well as the game itself. If anyone is willing to help me I would be very happy because I don't know anything about code but I have great computer skills. Email me at [emailprotected] if you think you can help me. I don't know where else to go. If there is some other place or forum with people that can help me please let me know. I am also looking for maybe a programmer that can be my friend and help me make several PROGRAMS until I learn programming myself. I have a specific thing I want to do for just events and lv100 shiny pokemon. You gotta be kidding me. Be Legit and don't just max everything out, but you CAN do those on PokeSav. Just use their forums.Quote from: BatchRocks on February 17, 2009, 04:06:55 PM Wow, PokeSav is FTW. I use it all the time. just kinda ruins the fun out of Pokemon.... Quote from: macdad- on February 17, 2009, 04:08:10 PM Quote from: BatchRocks on February 17, 2009, 04:06:55 PMWow, PokeSav is FTW. I use it all the time. But heck, there is a lot you can do with PokeMonI am looking to create a app that puts just legit lv100 shiny pokemon on the game so you will not have to do any editing.and then there's me, training legit with Exp. Share or whatever the tool was CALLED. And then giving myself level 255 charmanders with the blue savegame editor right at the start of the game. well I am making a sav file with all 493 pokemon all legit lv100 shiny with the best moves they can learn and I am done with all the first and second generation pokemon and doing the third now but it would be nice if there was a app that had that all preloaded into it. If anyone does make the app I can give them the sav file when I am done working on it.So you want somebody to completely duplicate all the functionality in an existing app just to add two features. Yeah OK, that's a bit silly. Instead, put in a feature request to those that develop the editor, I'm sure they'll ignore your request much better then we are though. Anyway, I've only known about the pokemon red/blue savegame editor, all my searches for savegame editors for Silver/Gold (the only other one I've played and the last one I plan to play) came up empty, so I assumed it didn't exist. IMO 251 is the number of pokemon. any pokemon number above that is called a "transformer". I think this is going no where, as you just want to brag..."OMGZ I BEAT THE GAME ZOMG LOOK AT MY LEVEL 100 SHINY ALL POKEMON!" Friend : "Mhmm...".I accidentally left all my shiny Pokemon out in the rain and now they won't play with me because they are tarnished |

Answer» Hi all, what is fta receiver?? Huh No. Hardware that plugs into your USB port. Tou have to buy a small disk and a reciever. Together it will cost you about $280 more or less. You can recieve INTERNATIONL programs o from the satellites in HD TV format. You watch it on you computer. The software program you linked is a whole lot cheaper. Myself, I spend more time on this site that I do watching TV!Quote from: Geek-9pm on FEBRUARY 16, 2009, 10:28:11 PM

Solve : frame html help? |
Answer» I am putting a Frame html code on my web site and I am having trable getting it right. I strongly suggest using a WYSIWYG Editor rather than coding websites. tssk tssk. actually, for Nymph4, I think I agree. a set of Frames requires at least three pages- for example, the main page: Code: [Select]<HTML><HEAD> <FRAMESET> <NOFRAMES> you can't use frames. Go AWAY. </NOFRAMES> <FRAME SRC="FRAME1.HTML"></FRAME> <FRAME SRC="FRAME2.HTML"></FRAME> </FRAMESET> </HEAD> </HTML> frame1.html: Code: [Select]<HTML><BODY>Frame1!</BODY></HTML> frame2.html: Code: [Select]<HTML><BODY>Frame2!</BODY></HTML> Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on February 21, 2009, 09:30:21 AM I strongly suggest using a WYSIWYG Editor rather than coding websites.
