Solve : Microsoft Office Outlook Not Sending Emails?

Answer» SIGNATURE or no signature?None. When it says "Send/RECEIVE error" at the bottom right, can you CLICK on it to get some more details?I will next time I have an issue. It probably won't be for awhile because it only happens rarely and when I am at school connected to the wired and wireless internet. I am on break now through January 20th. If you're connected to the wired and the wireless at the same time, that can definitely cause your connection to drop sporadically. If you have a choice, and it's not to inconvenient, use the wired - more stable, generally. ALSO, CHECK wht attachment type you are sending. If you are sending .exe or something which your mail service provide do not all ... you may receive error

Solve : Speedfan Temperatures?

Answer»

Ok so I got a new config file for speedfan as the original wasn't detecting the sensors right.

My specs are to he side but just to make it easier...
I'm using a ASUS P4PE Mobo and a 2.5GHz Celeron 2.5/128/400

Just to avoid confusion...
Windows XP SP3 - Vista Transformation pack with Windows 7 Skin and Window Blinds

now I get flame marks beside my CPU when doing CPU intensive THINGS, even if the temp is still low.

I admit, during games the temperature can reach just over 55 CELCIUS, never seen it above 60.

I am not using an intel cooler but a cheap "deepcool' one that I BOUGHT for $20 NZD (about 12 US)
It has no copper whatsoever

Are these TEMPS safe?

I will attach a screenshot of speedfan for you to look at

EDIT:

Also, is someone able to enlighten me on the 'Temp:' part? It seems to average the same as the CPU but sometimes can be lower/higher...
Is this the chip under the CPU with the heatsink on it?

[attachment deleted by admin]Speedfan's default is to WARN at 50C - this can be changed in the program options. Looks like this profile is warning at another temperature, you can change that.
Not sure what "Temp" refers to, in this case, but if you run a CPU intensive task like a game or Prime95, and it increases roughly the same rate as your CPU temperature, it's likely to be another sensor for the CPU.
Oh, and 55C for that CPU should be fine. Thanks

Solve : Can't Move Photos...From Digital Camera?

Answer»

I have a Polaroid Digital camera, from which I downloaded photos via USB cable to my PC which automatically moved my photos to a program called Arc Photo IMPRESSIONS. The problem is I can't seem to copy or move the photos to anywhere on my C:Drive and upload it to Photobucket, to my Yahoo E-mail or anywhere else.
I have a Toshiba Satellite A105 NOTEBOOK, with Windows XP and both IE6.0 and Firefox 3.0.
Help!So when you plug the camera into the computer, can you access the storage device?
If you can access it, what happens if you try to copy or move the pictures?ANOTHER CASE of laziness - on my part. I redownloaded the photos, this time starting with arc photo impressions and everything worked fine. Thanks for asking the right questions.Ummm....Ok.

Glad you got it working.

Solve : Computer over heating??

Answer» HEY i switched to another computer cause it has a better processor and i think it's overheating. I switched over my nvida geforce 9600gt over to my other computer aswell.

the problem is when i am playing videogames i get random fps drops I think its cause my cpu isnt getting cooled down enough. when i hear my fan in my computer go into overdrive once and awhile there tends to be no problem while the fan is spinning really fast.

what do you think the problem is? how should i fix this?i think your getting the fps drops becuase of really actiony parts of games when theres a lot going on and stuffwell no cause this never happend on my other computer...lol and HWEN IM standing still itll just randomly drop from 70 to 30 for 2 seconds and go back upDLoad speedfan and monitor some of your TEMPS and post the results here...Quote from: patio on January 04, 2009, 01:36:53 PM
DLoad speedfan and monitor some of your temps and post the results here...

YEAH i have that but theres two problems

1) i dont think it monitors cpu temperature only gpu
2) i cant look at it while in game1)It monitors both.
2)If you switch to the charts tab you can see a graph of the temperatures so you can see what it was while the game was running.Thanx Soviet !

Solve : need a (free) firewall?

Answer»

I've used zonealarm free for years. But somewhere along the line my network has degraded and most the time I cant get my laptop to even connect to the net unless I shut ZA down. I cant even get all my pc's to talk to each other, havent fingured that one out yet, but thats for another post. I put comodo on the desktop, but just really DONT like it that much. So, what other free firewalls are out there that works pretty good and easy to use, yet not as annoying as comodo and is as easy to use as ZA. Friend of mine keeps suggesting just to use the windows firewall and nothing else, but i dunno, just doesnt "feel" safe.Outpost firewall.

Windows firewall is not a firewall. It's a crapwall. Only use it if you're behind a hardware firewall. well i have have a d-link router with firewall. what "exactly" does a firewall do anyway? just keep PPL out? does it do anything for net surfing? cause regardless of firewall, i can still get trojans and what not.A firewall doesn't keep trojans out, but it can keep them in so they can't send out mined data or receive additional instructions. Virus scanners get rid of trojans

And yes, some firewalls try to filter out your browser traffic as well. Komodo being one of them, I recall a version that would filter for content (Enabled by default) and it would slow down web traffic a lot. Komodo sucks.

The rest is homework.

Both not true.

Well, since the first comment was sarcastic there is neither a 'true' nor 'false'.

Windows Firewall, by the way, is as leak as a coffee pad. I've tested it and it lets through a -lot- of things.
And a firewall doesn't keep trojans out as trojans are often downloaded with programs. It keeps trojans inside.

Anyhow, do you pop a boner every time you claim something is false without proving the opposite? Just say so if you do because I'll gladly make you pop 'm all day long, "B(r)oni"Windows firewall is pretty decent firewall. The only downside is, that it's only one way firewall (protects inbound traffic, but not outbound).
Then, a firewall has nothing to do with protecting a computer against trojans, or any other type of malwares. The main firewall job is to make your computer invisible to the outside world, and block any un-authorized communication between the computer, and the outside world (traffic going in, or out).
Quote
Only use it if you're behind a hardware firewall.
Source, if you have one?
As for my source....I deal with security issues on couple of boards, and I know, many people are using just Windows firewall without any router. I still can't see any relationship between using just Windows firewall, and severity of infections on such computer.
Quote
A firewall doesn't keep trojans out
As I said, it's not firewall job, BUT, if your firewall works fine, then any trojan becomes useless, since it can't communicated with the planter, or at least gives you a warning of a such attempt.

P. S. No reason to get personal. We can somply discuss facts.Quote

Uh... Common knowledge, I guess since you just mentioned WHY you would want a secondary firewall if you use the Windows XP Firewall? Because the Windows Firewall only does half the job of many a commercial firewall?

Quote

Yes, nothing like a firewall that does a half-arsed job. I guess anything is 'decent' according to your standards. Wonder what your daughters come home with to be honest.

Can we somply now?
1) No reason to pick on a typo. We all make mistakes.
2) Windows Firewall in XP is one of those "better than nothing" ordeals. I'd rather have people use that than no firewall at all. I think Windows Firewall in VISTA is two-way, but I have to double-check.Quote
I think Windows Firewall in Vista is two-way, but I have to double-check.
It's not. It was M$ attempt to create two-way firewall, but it didn't happen.
You can actually set some rules to control outbound traffic, but:
- who wants to do it manually
- it's a pain
More info: http://blogs.zdnet.com/Berlind/?p=331I only have a hardware firewall, and the only infections I've had were trojans.

a quick Process Explorer to write down names, and a recovery console run to delete them, and all is usually well again. (I've had to do it twice when I missed a few dll or trojans the first time).Quote from: Raptor on December 18, 2008, 03:57:26 PM

Solve : XP boots up but has a blank (black) screen.?

Answer»

I hope this is a softeware problem but I don't know. I am using a HP pavilion dv9009nt laptop, with windows XP. It is about ONE year old. Sometimes when I turn it on, ,it seems to boot up but the screen remains totally blank. The hard drive is busy doing something, according to the indicator, but who knows what? Turning it off and then on again has no effect. The only thing that seems to WORK is to shut it off, disconnect the power cord, remove the battery, wait 30 seconds then replace the battery and try again. This usually works, not always. One time it was doing that and i walked away for about an hour. When I came back to it, it was working perfectly. Does any one have any ideas re this problem. ?? THANKS in advance. JIMIt's not a software problem, with the symptoms you describe it is definitely a hardware problem.
From your description it could sound like a problem with the screen or the graphics card.
If you got one, you can try connecting the laptop to an EXTERNAL monitor and see if it will give you a picture when the laptop screen is blank.
But the laptop will need to be SERVICED in order to fix this problem. Is it still under warranty?
Sounds to me as if that battery is ready to or has failed and is interrupting the normal flow of AC power to the machine...how old is the battery and does it get unusually hot ? ?DEERPARK:
I was afraid of that. I will try to connect it to an external monitor. It is a laptop and it is about 13 months old. Out of warrenty.

PATIO: I have tried to run it without the AC power connected (once it boots properly) and it operates for at least 30 min. on battery. I will give it a more stringent test, however.

Thanks to both of you guys. You have helped me in the past. JIM

Solve : Sleep Mode?

Answer»

When I shut my laptop while its on, it automatically goes into sleep mode. Is going into sleep mode bad for my computer? Like, does sleep mode start using up HD space that when my computer starts getting low on memory, I won't be able to delete the old sleep mode files. Or can I only use sleep mode for so many times, or it starts messing up my computer, etc...

I'm just wondering because sleep mode seems faster for starting up instead of always turning off my computer. So if sleep mode doesn't do ANYTHING, I thought I would just put it into sleep mode instead. But then I started thinking if it was bad, so now I'm here asking the pros If anyone can help, its always greatly appreciated. Thanks

PS: running on vista, 200g HD, laptopYou mean hibernation?

The hibernation file on your computer can take up a lot of disk space. If you don't have much disk space, you might want to disable hibernation. You should shut down your computer when you won't be using your computer for a long time. No, I'm sure its sleep mode. Of the options of having my computer of no power, i have: Hibernate, Shut Down, or Sleep. I'm sure it's sleep mode.

And out of curiousity...can i delete the hibernation file? Cause i have my old pc that i used hibernate alot and its low on HD space... if i can delete it, where might I find it?Quote

can i delete the hibernation file?
Yes, here it's how to do it:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Features_new_to_Windows_Vista

Quote
In Windows Vista, 'Stand By' and 'Hibernate' have been combined into an additional 'Sleep' function which is active by default. When chosen, this new 'Sleep" mode saves information from the computer's memory to the hibernation file on disk, but instead of turning off the computer, it simultaneously enters Standby mode. After a specified amount of time (3 hours by default), it shuts down (hibernates). If power is lost during Standby mode, the system resumes from the existing hibernate image on disk. Sleep mode, thus, offers the benefits of fast suspend and resume when in Standby mode and reliability when resuming from hibernation, in case of power loss. Also, in earlier Windows VERSIONS, drivers sometimes prevented Windows from entering or reliably resuming from a power-saving state. Windows Vista ensures the availability and reliable resuming from any power state. Applications can disable sleep idle timers when needed such as when burning discs or recording media. Away mode, which is not a power plan by itself but a feature, automatically turns off displays, video rendering and sound but keeps the computer working when the user is away from the computer. Optionally, it can also transition to sleep mode.
With 200GB HD, I wouldn't worry about it.I agree with Broni. The SIZE of the hibernation file is equal to the amount of RAM you have installed. So even if you have 4 gb of RAM this is still nothing on a 200 gb hard drive. Don't worry about it and enjoy sleep mode. Just REMEMBER to do a restart once in a while to clear the memory.Ok great. Thanks. And by what do you mean by "restart"? As in actually restarting my computer or clearing the hibernation file?Restarting your computer is enough. You shouldn't have to touch the hibernation file.

Solve : AIM Issues (unspecified on the AIM help page)?

Answer»

I USE AIM 6.5, against my will -- 6.0 was great, but we had to wipe my harddrive because of a random VIRUS, blah blah. You know the deal.

This was a week ago. A friend of mine had sent me an offline message, and it has been popping up every time I log on, no matter which computer I use (so no blame on the virus). I TRIED turning off the setting for offline messaging, but that doesn't work, either; they still send. Any idea how to remedy this PROBLEM? Thanks.Maybe you have an infection problem again...

Solve : Gaming from an Ipod?

Answer»

I have been looking for a way to play guild wars on one of my colleges gaming computers, without having to install the game every TIME (takes too long, and boring) so i was thinking about getting an external hdd and installing guild wars on that

but, i recently learned you could use your ipod as basically an external HARD drive. my question is, could i install guild wars on my ipod video, plug it into the computer and play it off that? or would i have to install some program into my ipod for that or is it even possible. ive heard rumors about it but i wanna make sure before i WASTE my time. thanks muchI haven't tried this myself, but it appears to be possible and even fairly simple. I question the legality of such a thing, but as far as I can tell, it appears to legal. It looks like the launcher simply edits the registry to redirect the game to your flash drive (or iPod). Because this appears to be not much more than a mod of sorts...here you go...

Portable Guild Wars

I've LOOKED around online and haven't seen any complaints from users, but it's STILL in development, so use at your own discretion.ok, i tried it, i didnt see your post about portable guild wars though, it was very easy just pulled my guild wars folder into my ipod then went to school
after school i plugged in my ipod to the school computer and ran gw for aobut 3 hours no problem it works im happyKudos. As long as you've got it working, I'm glad.

Solve : automatic extraction of Outlook attachments?

Answer»

All,
I get a weekly email with an attachment that I want to automatically save (i.e. ,without user INTERVENTION) to a specified folder where I can process it with a batch file that is INITIATED by the same email (using Outlook's RULES and Alerts). Outlook Rules and Alerts doesn't appear to let me process attachments (other than using attachments as a criterion for flagging the incoming message).

I didn't like the add-in program Attachment Master as it looks as if it's designed to process all attachments in a given Outlook folder; I want to process specific attachments to specific emails.

Is it possible to consistently find the folder where attachments from Outlook are stored? If every WEEK the attachments get stored to the same folder, I just need to know where they are to process them...

Thanks very MUCH for your help or suggestions of other forums to try if this is not the most appropriate one...

Solve : to print business cards using?

Answer»

Hi,
I am trying to print some business cards but after i finish the composition of the card and try to print it, some of the printing is out of the card.
I use Spicers TUDOR Brand paper. Product code 132220-Pack.
Card Size Width & Height 90 X 52 mm
Cards per sheet 10
No. of Labels Across 2 Down 5
Margin left 15 Right 15
Margin Top 18 Bottom 18
I use HP Photosmart C4180 All-in-One
There is no way (as far i know) to set up the Margins left, right , top, botton, on my HP printer.
I try Print Perfect by cosmi and the problem is the same.
Do anyone know of what i should do? Help...Help.....
Best regards and thanks. Is the printer in Landscape or Portrait mode ? ?

You could try switching whatever it is to see if this works.
Instead of wasting the card stock just print it on paper til it's right....I use Publisher 2000 when I make Business Cards and when I finish and go to Print I select it from the File drop down menu so that I get the Print Box. There I click Print Options where it gives me two options: One centerd on the page or multiple. Under multiple I set the margins in inches to: Top Margin - .5" (half inch), Side Margin - .7", Horizontal and Vertical both set to - 0"

I use the regular Avery Business Card paper from Staples and it works fine.
On the card you make always make sure you leave on top, bottom and sides a bumber SPACE of about 1/8" so that words dont come out right at the edge of the card.It all come back to the HP printer, with the resizing options: Size A4.
The , i put on "Scale the paper size" and there i find a list of different paper etc...
,but nothing for Tudor.
I also have "openoffice.org"
i click on file, new. business cards, FORMAT and try to setup:
horizontal pitch, vertical pitch, width, height, left margin, top margin, clumsy, rows.
When it come to rows, i can only setup 4 rows, but i need 5 rows.
Don't know what to do next.....
Best regards,
The easiest ROUTE for your problem is to use MS Word. Go to Tools/Envelopes & Labels/Labels/Options/New Label. You can design the label easily and if necessary define a custom paper size to fit your HP printer. Check with the printer documentation on the minimum margins that it will take. If your printer is the default printer on the PC then Word should take this into ACCOUNT automatically when you design the label.OK went to MS word and the all thing work very well. Easy to custom for my HP.
I also found on the Net about a site that let you compose business cards and download in PDF and then you can print them on your printer.
I was not looking to print business cards but private and work as well.
Here is the addressee of the site:

Solve : Cannot open "Notepad"?

Answer»

I'm definitely game in trying the repair install. I'm a little disconcerted by the fact that I MAY need to buy an additional hard drive to BACK up things like my iTunes library and other music folders, my movie downloads, photos and just my basic documents. Unless there's another way to back up 150+ gigs worth of stuff besides another hard drive? Well even external HDD's fail eventually so you should consider something more permanent such as Acronis True Image which is an imaging PROGRAM...your BACKUP IMAGES can then be burned to DVD for safekeeping.

I have for the past few months, been seeing some "seams" while playing games on my PC, I've only experienced these "seams" on Final Fantasy XI (an MMO) and World of Warcraft (another MMO) at first I thought it was something released in a patch on Final Fantasy XI that was causing these "seems" then I went and played World of Warcraft and noticed them there as well.

What I see is two textures that look as if they're not close enough thus leaving a 1 pixel wide LINE that runs in between the textures.

These seems I know were not there 4-5 months ago as they stand out enough for ONE to not be able to not notice them.

I have done nothing to my PC except update to newer graphic drivers as they are released but the issue is still there even if I roll back to some pretty old drivers so I am confused as to what the issue may be.

I use a Dell made computer with a Nvidia GeForce 7300 LE graphics card (which is supported by both games) and I use DirectX 9.0c. My graphics Driver is 169.21 Forceware from the Nvidia website, and as I stated, rolling back to older models has not changed the problem.

While playing these games as well, I noticed that sometimes shading is not blending as it should, (example: I am staring at a building, there is light hitting the building from one side thus MAKING it bright, and it's dark on the other side, the darkness and light are not blending together like they USED to, instead it's just a line separating the light and dark, instead of them blending together.)

After updating drivers/downgrading drivers the only change I make inside the Nvidia Control Panel is put Vertical Sync Forced on to prevent the tearing, and also put Triple Buffering on, I have tried having Triple Buffering on and off and there is no difference between the two.

To determine WHETHER it is the monitor or the card try the monitor on another machine...
You may want to also try removing and re-seating the vid card...
The contacts can be cleaned with a pencil eraser.

As always when working inside the case remove all power and take anti-static precautions.

Solve : Confusion - Adobe/Acrobat reader?

Answer»

I'm somewhat confused -

Is there a difference between Adobe Reader and Acrobat Reader for PDF files?

I just updated to Adobe Reader 8 and and thought I'd update Acrobat 5 as well. To check what I was about I opened Acrobat but the screen froze on the "about Acrobat" opening page, so I shut down and rebooted and decided to uninstall Acrobat and start afresh. Now my efforts to find and download the latest version of Acrobat seem to lead me to Adobe Reader, so I'm wondering if that has replaced Acrobat?? Do I need both?

I have Windows XP SP2 and use Firefox mainly.Adobe Reader is mainly for viewing PDF files.
Adobe Acrobat is for creating and authoring PDF files.

If you only need to be able to view PDFs I would strongly suggest you ditch Adobe Reader/Acrobat altogether and try Foxit Reader instead. It is free and uses fewer RESOURCES than Adobe Reader. You'll notice that PDF files open a lot faster in Foxit compared to Adobe Reader. Thanks for explanation, Deerpark.

I only need to view files so I've taken your advice and uninstalled Adobe and have now GOT Foxit Reader 2.2 downloaded ok.

One curious thing - I mentioned in my original post that the "about Acrobat" page froze (the information window's text scrolled up continually, but I couldn't exit the page, and got no response from ANYWHERE "clickable"). I had to switch off to escape. Well, exactly the same thing has happened with the Foxit "about" page. Everything else seems ok. Any ideas why this should happen? You should be able to exit the about window by clicking anywhere in the about window. Clicking anywhere else in the Foxit window will not do anything. Do the about window not disappear if you click it?Thanks once again, Deerpark.

That is the answer, of course.

I feel such a prat.Ahh don't worry about it, it happens to the best of us.
But good to hear you're all sorted now. Quote from: silkie on January 09, 2008, 10:22:48 AM

Just a little more info on your original question. Adobe Reader is the free PDF reader. Adobe Acrobat is the PDF creation SOFTWARE and it's not free. I think what you had installed was actually two version of the reader, version 5 and version 8. Version 5 was called Adobe Acrobat Reader. Later versions of the reader were simply called Adobe Reader. The word Acrobat was removed from the title of the reader, most likely to avoid confusion with the Adobe Acrobat, the PDF creation software.

In my opinion, you could have just uninstalled the old version 5 and kept version 8. But, Foxit is fine. Thanks for further info, soybean.

You must be right about the two versions - that's what threw me when I checked them out.

Foxit is just fine for me and I'll stick with that.

Solve : sending video (mp4) via internet & retrieve by cellphone?

Answer»

O.k...if somebody know any website that support this please SHARE it with me.
I'm trying send a video to my wife and she is far from me but still in the same COUNTRY (Malaysia)
Please don't ASK me to send it via email to email, i already describe what i want to archive in the tittle.
This video only 2.5Mb, and the cellphone (Nokia 5200) don't sent more then 1mb (actually lower than that), so i think the only chance for her to get it directly to her cellphone is internet.
I hope there's something like what i want come soon, if possible Hmm something like Rapidshare?
Or perhaps GMail, you can access it from a PHONE and attachments can be up to 20 mb if I'm not mistaken.I'm gonna try that Gmail soon, tq for the QUICK reply. I heard and read about it before but never had a chance to try, now the right time.

Solve : Help!??? Re:PC speed up,reg cleaners etc...?

Answer»

Do any of these programs actually do anything? or do they just bog my PC down with more garbage..?
There are a ton of these cleaners,PC speed ups etc..Any advice on one of the hundreds which actually will clean and speed up my PC...
Thanks
DWe recommend CCleaner on this forum. It cleans up temporary FILES, internet history and unused registry ENTRIES. And unlike many other registry cleaners it doesn't MESS up your registry in the process. Just remember to untick the Yahoo Toolbar during installation, you don't need that.
We also have a guide on how to set it up.
Configuring CCleaner

But yeah many of these PC speed up programs are completely bogus. Take RAM cleaners or BOOSTERS for example. If you use anything newer than Windows ME you don't need one. The memory management in newer versions of Windows is perfectly capable of CLEARING unused RAM by it self.

Solve : Backup suggestion that spans DVDs??

Answer»

I work for a small mom and pop PC repair shop. Often times customers wish us to back up their data to CDs or DVDS. Sometimes the backup can be 10GB+ .

Can anyone suggest a tool that would back up their data file by file (not compressed or anything. Just as if they copied it through Explorer) yet suggest what files go on what disk to save space and assist in the copy process?

Right now we typically use the typical burning software if it fits on 1 CD/DVD or FABs autobackup on the UBCD 4 Win but it doesn't SPAN.

We'd like it to be FREE or very low cost and if it costs, a cheap tech license.

Any ideas? I use Acronis True Image and have for years...
It will also do incremental backups, can be SCHEDULED etc.
Best deal on it currently is at newegg.com.

Version 10 can be had for 20 bucks although there are newer versions but if cost is a consideration it's your best deal.
Understand. But we don't want to buy anything if we can get away with it plus we don't want to have to install anything on their PC.

If memory serves, someone had a FREE program out there way back when that would basically look at what you had to back up, look at the media type, and recommend which files would best be put onto which disk to completely or near completely fill the CD or DVD and thus minimize the amount of discs needed. This is more of what we need.

Thanks

Brad

Does anyone know of a good open-source alternative to MS Powerpoint?

Thank you.Try OpenOffice

Try OpenOffice
It's a free open source office suite, with replacements for Word, PowerPoint, Excel and Access.

I second that. I've GOT OpenOffice 2.3 for Windows XP (on my laptop, MUCH smaller install than Office 2007) and Fedora 8 Linux. It's a great program and is pretty much compatible with MS Office.Thank you quaxo and Calum.

I noticed that the download size for OpenOffice is large. Is it possible to download a single product instead? Not to my knowledge. The installer includes all of the OpenOffice program files, but you can select which you do and do not want to install.Alright. Thanks for that.

Solve : Your help would be appreciated...."refresh question"?

Okay, I hope I can communicate this well enough.

I have XP and I use Internet Explorer most of the time. I use Firefox once in awhile. But lately I am having to use F5 to refresh the pages on the forums that I regularly go to. I have rebooted several time and I still have to hit refresh to see the latest updates to the page. Is there something I can do where this will automatically do it by itself? This has been going on for about 3 weeks. I NEVER had this problem before. I am frustrated. Is this happening with both browsers? Yes, this was happening with both browsers. It does not seem to be happening now. So, I am hopeful that WHATEVER I did.........it is RESOLVED. Thank you.It may be loading cached pages ...when is the last time you emptied your TEMPORARY Internet Files folder ? ?

In Firefox it's under Tools/Options/Privacy...clear CACHE now.
In IE it's Tools/Options/Temporary Internet Files.

Solve : Out of focus lettering in Photoshop?

Answer»

Hi,
first TIME everrrrrr using photoshop 7 did a lovely card on glossy photo paper with colored background and swirl brushes but when I put white LETTERING on it...some of it looks out of FOCUS??? I am using different font for some of the lettering, could this be it?//

tinaWhat font are you using that looks out of focus?
What size is it?
Any chance of us seeing what it looks like?
Does it look that way when you print it out as well?

Your problem may simply be that you're not viewing the image at 100%. It could be zoomed in or out.You mentioned doing this on glossy photo paper. So is this 'out of focus' problem on the screen or on the paper or both?

If it's just on the paper, you might need to ADJUST your print settings. When using CERTAIN types of paper, the ink settings have to be adjusted or the image will come out blurry or it will bleed.

Solve : Prompt....?

Answer»

I have a question.

For some reason, something on my computer CHANGES recently and I can't figure out how to get it back. Whenever I enter a blank CD into my E: drive, nothing happens. It used to open up a box prompting me to pick an application to open it with. This was very convenient and saved me lots of time. Today, I never got this prompt. No matter how many times I'd take the blank CD in and out, nothing would pop up. It was as if the computer wasn't reading the CD.

So I went to My Computer, right-clicked the E drive while the CD was in, and went to the autoplay tab. I made sure the prompting option was checked and it was.
However, I decided to CHANGE something else on the properties which caused another problem. I went to the recording tab and checked 'enable cd recording on this drive'. Now everytime I put the blank cd in, it opens the Windows Media Player program. I just want to get back to the original setting where it would prompt me to pick a program to open it with. How can I do that?

Also, can anyone give me a POSSIBLE reason as to why it may not give me that prompt anymore? I don't remember changing anything recently that would result in this.

Thanks in advance! Are you using XP or Vista SpitefulKitty?
And don't forgot to post what version it is. For example, for XP it's Home, Professional or Media Center. On my COMPAQ Vista, it's called Snapfish Media Detector.Sorry about that, guys. I am using Windows XP.Is it the Professional or Home version of XP?
If you don't know this is how you can find out:
Right click "My Computer" and select Properties.
On the General tab under System: the first line should read "Microsoft Windows XP". The line below tells you the version.
I have the Home edition.Get Autoplay Repair:

Solve : Problem with tables in Word 2007?

Answer»

We all have Office 2007 here and one of the assistants is having a strange DEAL WORKING in a table. We make all of our pleading captions in tables and when she goes to type in the description, as she types the cell and some before it turn blue and get darker and darker until she can barely see what she is TYPING. She has to move around in the document and GO BACK to the line in the cell and then start typing again. We have tried changing ever setting we could find, we did a repair on Word 2007 and we can't really even figure out how to exactly explain this. As far as I know no one else is having the problem. If anyone has a suggestion, I would be forever indebted. Thank you all.Is the table set to a certain theme/color that could be causing this?
Any chance of us getting a copy of the problematic file so we can have a better idea of what's going on?

Solve : Virtual PC & Ghost Image Question?

Answer»

Hello, I am looking for a way to get an old ghost image to work on VIRTUAL PC 2007, and it appears that VPC creates the Virtual system correctly, but then it HANGS at the WINDOWS 2000 Pro SP4 start up after the progress bar at the bottom goes from dashes to solid.

I am guessing that this is because the image was created of my P2 400Mhz CPU system and the system RUNNING Virtual PC 2007 is a P4 3.0 Ghz CPU.

Does anyone know if there are any mods for VPC to tweak the image into thinking that the P4 is a P2 or if there is a better solution out there for getting images to run correctly on systems with major hardware difference, but still the X86 processor?

Thanks,

Dave

Before you install the Windows 2000 Professional desktop operating system, make sure that your computer meets the following minimum system requirements:
•133 MHZ or more Pentium microprocessor (or EQUIVALENT). Windows 2000 Professional supports up to two processors on a single computer.
•64 megabytes (MB) of RAM recommended minimum. 32 MB of RAM is the minimum supported. 4 gigabytes (GB) of RAM is the maximum.
•A 2 GB hard disk that has 650 MB of free space. If you are installing over a network, more free hard disk space is required.
•VGA or higher-resolution monitor.
•Keyboard.
•Mouse or compatible pointing device (optional).
For CD-ROM installation:
•CD drive or DVD drive
•High-density 3.5-inch disk drive, unless your CD drive supports starting the Setup program from a CD
For network installation:
•Windows 2000-compatible network adapter and related cable (See the Hardware Compatibility List (Hcl.txt) in the Support folder on the Windows 2000 Professional CD)
•Access to the network share that contains the Setup files

Of COURSE M$ likes to joke around, so I'd say 512MB of RAM.I'll BET we get an A minus this semester...LOL...

Solve : Music player for Windows ME?

Answer»

I just deleted my WINAMP music player on my Windows ME because it wasn't working, but I can't download the new one because it doesn't work with ME. Yeah yeah I know it's time to upgrade but right now I just need to know if anyone has some suggestions as to which music player I should use or where I should go to download some that are compatible with my Windows ME. My windows media player doesn't work...and real player doesn't either. So I need to find another way to listen.

Cheers!

ChloeWhy won't your WMP and Real player work? Is that an issue you want to correct?

You can download any older version of WinAmp from here:
http://www.oldversion.com/program.php?n=winamp

Scroll down through the list. I think the last version that supported ME was 3.0Using WIN98SE here.

Some bits of information, for whatever they are worth:

Not all that LONG ago, I went to:
http://forums.winamp.com/search.php
That's the search page for the Winamp forum.

Searched for Windows 98.

Got lots of hits.

Read some.

Learned that newer versions of Winamp no longer support Win98.
But! ... also read many comments indicating which of the old versions would run under '98.
Saw ver 5.35 mentioned.

But also read that ver 5.24 was the last to support Win98.
Can't remember just why, but I felt that 5.24 was the one to go with.
Probably from more reading there.

Went to Winamp Heaven.
http://www.winampheaven.net/old.php?major=5
Downloaded v.5.24

Installed.
It works fine.
I don't use it much, and have never really experimented with all its many functions... I can say that I can load an .mp3 in it, and it COMES out of the speakers.

I think that if this version works under '98, it should also work under ME.
Or, you could visit that forum, and search for comments from others that are using ME, and see which they are using.

I hope this HELPS.

I suppose you are a supporter of VLC! I would like to use VLC too, but I don't know why its video output is not as good as that of MPC. The movements are just unnatural!I like VLC, because all codecs ar built-in, and it plays almost anything.
About quality??? I'm not sure. Maybe your video card. What do you have there?
What are your computer specs?
VLC plays very well on my computer.
I also like VLC player. I've only EVER had two issues with it. Trying to play DVDs from my USB DVD drive. Still haven't determined if that's the drive or VLC's FAULT, working on that now. The second was opening too many MP3s into the playist at once. VLC crashed.Quote

I had that issue with Winamp in the past.Well, I did find that it was VLC player that was having a problem with the USB DVD drive and not the drive itself. I won't go into here. I'll start a new thread on that soon.

I still think it's a good program though. I don't have this issue with my desktop system and its DVD drive, it might just be isolated to the USB drive.Hi Guys,
For my operating system (Win98se), MPC works much better than VLC; I know how to fix my VLC problem: Upgrade my OS!
That said, may I remind uyou that my original topic is "Media Player Classic freezes"? Anyone out there is using MPC or at one time had the same problem as mine? I would like to hear from him/her.What are your computer specs, especially video card?Hi,
I know my is almost at the bottom of the line, but I don't think the freezing problem is related to the specs of my PC.Quote

For Christmas I got the Wacom BAMBOO PAD. I installed it with no problem. The bundle package that came with the pad I am having a problem installing. When I put the CD in..........NOTHING! I cannot upload the INFORMATION from the CD. It has the following programs on it...

Adobe Photoshop 5.0
Corel Painter Essentials 3.0
Nik Color Efex Pro 2.0 GE

I have never had a problem uploading software before and I just do not know what to do. I have been on hold with WACOM too much to ask and also I emailed them and they have not returned my email. I emailed on 12/26.

Any suggestions?can you post some info on your machine? this will help US assist you further.

what do you mean by nothing? if it doens't autorun, you can manually access the cd through my computer. if double clicking the icon doens't help, try right clicking > open.Double clik the parent folder of each program....there should be a setup.exe file in each.
Double clicking that file should start the installation of each program...I will try this again and get back to you. Thank you.
