the next SP will probably fix most of the backwards compatibility issues, and I don't have too MANY to start, the apple commercials are NOT true. you should use Home Premium for general use (not the select-a VISTA wheel!) OK...Let's start from the source, Micro$oft.

And we all know, that when Micro$oft, or any other manufacturer lists some system requirements, you can easily double it to make sure it'll run correctly, and not like molases.
In that case, when I stated many time before, I want for my Vista Home Premium 2GHz processor, and 2GB of RAM, I'm not gonna back off.

Who I can ADD a submenu for a menu(CREATED by addmenu in macro) in access 2003???

So, when I installed windows....I installed it on a seperated PARTITION.

Did you just RECENTLY install Windows? If so, I suggest you format and re-partition your hard drive, and install Windows on C. Is there some reason you do not WANT it on C? If this is Windows XP, I suggest you make your OS partition at least 15GB. That will leave plenty of room to install programs on the same partition as Windows.Im not trying to install onto D:

we are SCANNING photos for our DIGITAL library COLLECTION. i FAILED to close certain files/(delete)....certain dates and now to get to the correct days work i have to go through four open FILE selections...for example to get to the photos for the folder 1/3/08 i have to go to 10/16/07/11/30/07 and then 12/04/07...how can i get rid of these files? thanks.......

I also tried to partition my hard drive to install xp instead or vista... my daughter restarted my comp on a newly formatted partition with no operating system. I can load from cd but I have no idea what could work. Right now all the laptop says is BOOTMGR is missing.

What operating system (if any) is currently installed on the laptop?The laptop was running fine before this, I just WANTED to put XP on it. Vista basic is on the laptop somewhere but i can not access it because the active partition was formatted and then restarted before I could install xp.
It is an Aspire 5315- 2153.In order to continue/restart the XP installation all you should need to do is insert the XP cd in your cd/dvd drive and boot from it.
If you restart the computer with the XP cd in the drive you should get a message saying something like "Press any key to boot from CD". When you press a key the XP setup will start.

Have you tried that?yes i did try that and that is how I got the message that there was no hard drive to load it to. It said that the hard drive was missing or not installed properly. The disc did try to load it went on and installed a few things.... it was going so fast I could not read it, but then the error screen came up about the hard drive and that installation could not be completed.I believe your problem is that the hard drive is a SATA hard drive. The XP setup may need extra drivers in order to detect your hard drive. Unfortunately Acer doesn't appear to have any drivers available for XP and furthermore in order to load the driver you will need a floppy drive.
The first problem can possibly be overcome but the second is kinda hard to get around. Do you have an external floppy drive or can you manage to borrow one?Since it is a laptop you may have to use the RESTORE CD in the meantime and take it back to Day One STATUS...then research and collect all the XP drivers needed to run that machine.Not to sound to COMPLETELY ignorant, but the floppy drive you mean the old little disk things......... Alright, I'm trying to play DVDs from my external USB 2.0 DVD drive (BENQ DVD-RW internal drive in a 5 1/4" external USB housing). This issue could not be reproduced on my desktop SYSTEM with an internal drive and the same DVD in VLC.

I've posted this here in the software forum because I'm pretty certain now that it's not the drive, but VLC player that is having issues.

When playing DVDs in VLC player, there is heavy audio skipping and audio loss. The video is consistent and does not skip, only the audio. I've tried adjusting just about every option for audio in VLC to no avail (i.e. buffers, output TYPE, audio type, etc.). Reducing DirectX audio acceleration only makes it worse as well. There are no issues with video or audio files, only DVD video.

As an experiment I downloaded Cyberlink PowerDVD trial to see if it also had issues with the drive and it did not. The DVD played perfectly.

I'm using an ASUS EeePC 8G. (Celeron M 900, 1GB RAM, 8GB SSD, 250 ext. HDD)

Any thoughts on what VLC might be having a problem with? I'm on the road right now, so I do not have access to my desktop system. I do have internet access though (obviously).

Really, all I need is a working DVD decoder. I'll use WMP if I have to, as long as DVDs work. Limited space on this system, so trying to keep unnecessary installations down to a minimum.I realise it's not a solution but have you tried GOM ? ?

What OS do you have there?It's Windows XP now. I took Xandros off it for a while so I could try XP on it.

I haven't tried GOM. I need something to play DVDs properly, whatever makes them play properly would be a solution Whatever the problem is with VLC and my setup might not be fixable and it could be a hundred different things (or combination of).

The pagefile is set at 256MB. ASUS recommends 200-256MB in the manual for this model.

I think I'll lose VLC, and keep WMP and PowerDVD. That covers all my playing needs. I've messed with VLC settings for 2 days and just can't get it to play right, it just gets worse. Does anyone else have a USB2.0 drive and VLC? Now that I'm back home, I might hook it up later and try it out on my desktop system, see if I get the same results. I know my internal drive has no problems with VLC.It may be worth a try to put some movie on USB flash drive, and play it on VLC.The DVD's actual VOB file playing from the internal drive plays fine.

Copying it to an external drive, will post back after that's finished. I've got two more places to try: external USB 2.0 hard drive USB flash drive.That should make pretty good test set. I'm curious myself.
Alright, here's what I've come up with...

USB 2.0 external DVD drive on laptop:

It's just something about that laptop's USB ports, that DVD drive, and VLC. Something in that combination just makes it SCREW up. I have no problems with that DVD drive and anything else on the laptop (games, music, etc.) and VLC has no problem playing the file from other locations. Oh well, I've got a legitimate registration code for PowerDVD that I haven't used. I expect it's time I used it. WMP will play everything else I need.It must be something with VLC, because apparently, you're not alone:

On certain programs that I try to access, I get the following: "This program has failed to start DUE to xprt6.dll not being found" Reinstalling the program may correct the problem. Also in the box above the statement it says "AOLExplorer.exe.
Can anyone help me correct this?

If you are, my experience has been that you can DL VERSION 6.0 right over Version 5.0 and all the Pix you had in 5.0 Organizer will automatically transfer to 6.0 Organizer.
I use Elements 5.0 with which I'm satisfied an don't plan on getting Version 6.0. Got to remember, the Learning Curve is pretty high here.

For my newyear (happy newyear to everyone btw :-)) I GOT a bluetooth adapter from Dlink (model number: DBT-122). I downloaded the drivers for windows VISTA and I tried to install the device. However, I keep getting the question if I want to install the driver. I click on accept this driver and a few seconds later I get the question again. If I click I don't accept this driver, the same problem hapens again. The window looks like this:

(it's in dutch but I have described what it asks (=do you want to install the driver)). Even running the setup in compability modus (winxp sp2) or as administrator didn't help anything.

After re-reading this i can see i may have been mis-understood. I meant the driver CD that shipped with the computer itself...perhaps there is a bluetooth MBoard driver that has to be installed first.
Remove the other device driver before doing this if in fact there is one on there.

You may also want to check the BIOS to see if it has to be enabled prior to running any devices...

I know it's not a direct solution but a combo PCI USB/Bluetooth card is only about 25 bucks...and you could always use more USB ports no ? ?

I have installed a word template on my DESKTOP, but the Macros won't work in Word 2007. I have made the folder it is in a trusted location and also CHANGED the SETTING to accept all Macros, although it says this is not recommended. The Macro icons are visible but when I try to use them it says they are disabled or my security is blocking them. Any ideas? 1 . In wrote a game in Visual basic Express 2008 - and it works perfectly - all of the time. (Window Xp was on that machine)
2. I "Published" the game to a Zip Drive.
3. I then moved the zip drive to another machine running windows XP (which had a copy of visual basic 2003.NET installed). Everything worked. that was about 2 months ago.
4. I then moved the zip drive to a machine running windows Vista.
The program didn't install.. It directed me to an install.log which was never CREATED.

Why did the installation fail?
a) difference between Vista and Windows XP
b) needs a component that is in Visual Basic (either VERSION)
c) Some new Security fix - The 3rd computer was not connected to the internet
for code Verification - but should have installed with a warning
d) Some other Reason

I can make a few modifications to the code and compile it in Visual Basic 2003.net
- if that is the answer - but why fix it it's it's not broken

Or I can install visual basic 2010 on the 3rd machine - but I'm running out of machines.

I also have another machine running windows 7 - whihc I haven't TESTED yetI had other issues with that computer that are slowly being solved.

I'm now back to this problem. I was able to install the VB compiled program on 3 computers running Windows XP and one running Windows 7.

The problem is with the computer running Vista. I tried to install Visual Basic.2003 on that computer but that wouldn't install either.

Any suggestions?In your title ou name VB 2008, but you also mention the 2010 version. IMHO, it would make thingsneasier if nyou would do jsut on version of VB unless you know that you have to use different versions.

I was trying to access display images in my Folding at Home software v7.1.24 (Client control/FahViewer tab) but it did not work on my machine. I see the following MESSAGE on this page listed under "requirement":

The only software I can locate that saves a ongoing stream of data on a web PAGE are the 100's that record media but I would like to record or save the continuous update of text data.
More specifically the application would be capable of monitoring a auction page where the continuing bids are to be saved to a logfile.
In this case the webpage only progressively displays the last 10bids with bidders names.
So, I would like to engage the application in the event I were to leave my PC so that a record of all the bids with bidders names made over a period of time until the auction is completed can be kept for analysis.

Its SEEMS to be an elementary task but I'm stumped on where to locate a program capable of this goal

Looking at the page on the RHS you see the last 10 bids. Now if I were to arrive at a auction item a couple of hours after the start I would like to be able to review all the bidders that have participated up to that point.

CERTAIN bidders adopt personal strategies and if I could review the entire compliment of bidders and the amount of bids respective bidders had already placed, this would allow me to be more in tune with the trend to make an educated guess when or when not to place my bids going forward./

Consequently the application would be activated at a set time and up till the point the auction is finished or I stop the recording , the application would have to save to a file the continuous stream of dynamic data representing the bidders names pertaining to that specific auction page.

I hope this additional information would allow someone with a broad KNOWLEDGE of software programming if there be an application that could handle this operation!

I am working on an administrator's two machines and have the same PROBLEM. She uses the AOL client for email at home and has it installed on the computers in her office. For some reason neither of the office machines will connect to the school's broadband connection using AOL, but they are fine with IE and Firefox. I ran through the settings and could find nothing wrong, the firewall is off and she is in the administrator group on both machines. I know it has to be something in AOL because one machine is running Windows XP Pro and the other is running Windows 7. She can get to aol.com but then she does not have access to all of the stuff from the clients as well as not having it in sorted folders.

Anyone else having this problem or heard of it? Any ideas on a fix?

I have the free version of Malware bytes Anti-Malware. After I reboot, I get a popup that says:
(Open Event) Failed to perform desired action. Error CODE 2
Free Version or Trial Version? Most threads points to a certain setting under Protection tab for a paid version feature only. Have you tried reinstalling MBAM?You are a admin on the machine RIGHT?

Since the free version doesn't RUN resident you shouldn't get any MESSAGES from MBAM because it shouldn't be LOADING at startup.

windows 7 was WORKING properly but now has an error MRB Missing. I used the original disk to attempt repair of MRB but have failed.

When I downloaded/installed Everest Home Edition I got and error message shown in the attached image although Everest seems to work fine. How do I make Vista accept non-digitally signed drivers that I trust?

You have malware. Or a bad download.I uninstalled it and tried the download/install again with the same result. No malicious software found with AVG, Malwarebytes or SAS. This may have something to do with the extra security features Vista Business has.

Hi People,
I need your BRAIN power yet again. I volunteer for an organisation where part of my job involves inputting information on to a database. As a result of office resources changing almost daily I don't always use the same computer. On most of the computers I use I can enter information in a field and it will "remember" it when I come to that field again on the next record. For example, when I enter the word "Coventry" in the field, when I get to it again and click into that field the whole word (Coventry) shows underneath the field. Just like Google "suggestions".

So, here is my problem. SOME computers don't do that, MEANING I have to enter the whole word each time and that slows down data input. I assume that there is a little box somewhere in settings that needs a TICK putting in it but I haven't got the faintest where it is. As it doesn't do it on all of the computers I use I assume it has to be a computer based problem rather than the Database(which I'm not allowed to change anyway). So, if anyone has any ideas I would be grateful.

After 5+ years, I am setting up my personal user account/password for the first time. I am also setting up a Guest Account so my dog sitter can use the computer w/o seeing my personal files.

Everything seems OK except when I log on the Guest Account I get a dialog box entitled "hppusg.exe Common Language Runtime Debugging Service" with this message - Application has generated an exception that could not be handled. I can exit this and click on IE7. Then I get another dialog box entitled " Data Already in Use" with this message - The data required by Updates from HP is still engaged by user HP Administrator. "HP Administrator" is the original user name which I just changed to my name when I ESTABLISHED my password.

Is this just a nuisance thing or is it something my guest can ignore? How can I get RID of these messages? Thanks. That is not normal.

I got rid of the "Data Already in Use" message by disabling the "Updates from HP" Start-up item using the System Configuration Utility. I think the hppusg.exe has to do with my HP LJ printer. Hi, hopefully the title kind of explains the general situation. I have a Compaq Presario C500 Laptop with Vista Home EDITION installed (Intel Celeron M CPU 1.86 GHz/1.50 GB Ram/Vista SP 2.
I've been trying to update my Adobe Reader 8 to a version 9 or 10. However, each and every time I try to install either, I receive 3 error messages (1 of them stating the following: "Error 1402. Could not open key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\AcroExch.Sequence\DefaultIcon. Verify you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
The second message STATES: "Error 1402. Could not open key. HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\Software\Classes\PDFShellServer.PDFShellInfo2.1\CLSID. Verify you have sufficient access to that key, or contact your support personnel."
The final error message states: "This file does not have a program associated with it for performing this action. Create an association in the Set ASSOCIATIONS control panel."
This also happens when I try to completely uninstall Adobe Reader 8 as well. Can anyone help me? Thanks!

when i partition it with acronis disk DIRECTOR suite, it would TELL me to reboot bu after i reboot the drive partition i created isnt there.

im RUNNING windows 7. i've tryedthe samething with windows xp.

p.s: i dont have that conector for that hard drive so i cant make it a slave or master.

I used to PLAY Civilization 4. I stopped for a year or so. However, I suddenly wanted to play it again. I searched long and hard for the disk but couldn't find it. Giving up, I attempted to uninstall it.

However, it will not uninstall. I've left this laptop on all night with the InstallShield Wizard "uninstalling", but it does not work at all. This is all that happens:

Unintentional bump. It won't let me edit the post and this is important information.

I cannot find the file. Anywhere. At all. I've searched every folder and cannot find any files RELATING to Civilization 4. It should be in program files, but it isn't.

I have tried Revo Uninstaller as one tutorial suggested and it removed some files in AppData, but in the add/remove programs it still says it's installed. Obviously not everything is gone. This is really bugging me.

I've tried what another tutorial said and went to my Regedit and deleted two related files there, but it is still here. Someone help me, please!Again, cannot edit any of my posts. No idea why. Apologies for the bumps.

I have pretty much deleted every file I can find, even ones that were hiding in the InstallShield folder, but it still says it's installed on my computer. Someone told me to go to the command prompt and type:

Code: [Select]C:\>dir /s Civilization*4*
It will say:

Code: [Select] Volume in drive C has no label.
Volume Serial Number is 0652-E41D
Then I should delete it by:

Code: [Select]C:\>del /F /s Civilization*4*
Would this work?It would delete the files, but if I'm not mistaken, it would still think it was installed.

Microsoft has a couple manual explanations for REMOVING listings from Add/Remove Programs:

Have a read through those and see if it helps any. Feel free to ask if you're not sure. Do this at your own risk, as any mistake in editing the registry can hose your system.

My friend had loaned me the disk. Upon inserting it, the menu that should say "install" (if it has actually been wiped from my computer) said "play". This leads me to believe that there are still traces of it on my computer. Look at it in Explorer...does it show a setup.exe ? ?

Did some searching around, and it seems these two entries are the ones that tell the computer the game is installed. Try deleting them in addition to the suggestions from the Microsoft links.

This is complicated, PLEASE bear with me.

I am extracting the subtitle file from a MKV file TYPE using MKVextractGUI, and when it extracts the subtitle file it is empty (0 bytes) but when I play the MKV file I can turn on/off the subtitles, so I know they are not hard encoded.

It should be stated that when I try to extract the video/audio all I get is an unplayable .h246 file which I have learned is an encoding for MPEG-4 files.

Also I have both AegiSub and SubStation Alpha to read and ALTER the subtitle file.

Is there any way to de-encode the file to extract the subtitles?

I got this disc from a friend years ago and played it several times on my car audio system. But it does not play on my HP Compaq 6715b laptop.
I'm using Vista Business X64 and Windows Media player.

The "Help tab" sends me to this WMP page that list sofware I can purchase "$" to play this disc = I have no intention of buying anything else from Microsoft just to access these type of files.

So I'm asking you guru's for a solution. If that means using a DIFFERENT media player, then I welcome suggestions.

I am guessing your 64 bit?You did not say which version of Turbo C you are trying to run. If you mean the Borland Turbo C for MS-DOS, now released as freeware, this will not run on 64-bit Windows 7 but you can run it in an MS-DOS EMULATOR such as DOSBox.

Runs fine on my Windows 7 64-bit Professional, and here's a SCREEN shot to prove it... the IDE works, the program compiles and runs in DOSBox. You can edit the DOSBox conf file to get different display options (full screen, window, etc) and many config options.



It might be appropriate to MENTION that although DOSBox is freeware, and many Borland products have been released as freeware by Borland and their successors, this does not apply to every old MS-DOS program, in particular Microsoft products - programming languages, versions of MS-DOS, etc, which are still copyright products and not "abandonware".

I've been having issues getting JAVA to be recognized by certain programs and my internet BROWSERS and I have tracked
the issue down to an old installation of java.

I installed java jdk version 1.7.0 a few days ago, but I had to switch to version 1.6.0_27 for a programming class. I must
have deleted the files for 1.7.0 without actually uninstalling the PROGRAM. Now, all my programs/browsers attempt to
run java through the old 1.7.0 route and not my new 1.6.0_27 that is currently installed. I tried to uninstall 1.7.0 via
the control panel but I get "Error 1316. A network error occurred while attempting to read from the file C:\Windows\Installer\jdk1.7.0.msi"
which I have come to UNDERSTAND is a windows installation error. I tried to Install version 1.7.0 again to get the installation .msi file
which I must have accidentally deleted, but I get the same error from the reinstaller.

I have been trying to get rid of 1.7.0 or at least find a way to be rid of the registry entries from 1.7.0 so that my programs can use the
1.6.0_27 java instead. If there is any way to do this, I would be very grateful to hear of it.

The ribbon is far superior to the clusterflop that the Office 2003 menus had become over TIME. The only reason it's 'harder' at any point is because people try to use the 2007 ribbon as if it was the same as the commandbars from 97-2003. Installing add-ins to make it like the OLD only delays the inevitable time when you are simply going to have to learn it, and you COULD just as EASILY do that by using an old version of Office anyway- which brings to BEAR the point that there really isn't a good reason for most people to be using the latest and 'greatest' version of office anyway.

Hello everyone. I a new user of this forum. Sorry if this is a repeated TOPIC. I have a project due and needed an answer quick. Hopefully someone can help me. I have been messing around with Microsoft Excel. I have learned a few things but ONE that stumps me is this..... As you can see in the photo example, each person has a row with their data. I know how to sort the data but what I haven't figured out is how to make each column heading sortable. For example, I want to be able to click "shot acc" and have it sort the person from highest to lowest then if clicked again it would sort lowest to highest. Does this make sense? I don't want the drop down menus for each column. I just want it to automatically sort with a single click.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!

I guess the "autofilter" option can be ok but each page in my workbook has 3 charts that look like the posted pic. I can put Autofilter on one chart but when I try to add to another then the first on disappears. How can I add 3 Auto filters to one page that has 3 charts?

The 4 programs I use to watch the system rotate in a loop. I cant put the software on my machine becuase I use Vista and 2 out of 4 dont do well with it. What I would like to do is watch the monitoring computer from my DESK and to take it a STEP further, I would like to set it to a screensaver, so it is visble to others when I am not at my desk. Any thoughts or ideas to help me get there?Just a sidenote, I currently use UltraVNC on this machine, I am trying to find a none VNC style program.Can you see the other screen from your desk? Would a clear screen saver take care of your problem?

Sorry I didnt put that in earlier.I would suggest you try to build another machine (or you can use yours) and setup a remote desktop connection with it to the XP machine and the run the software I posted before. I would use the one built into windows XP. You don't really need to use UltraVNC.


Not a clean answer but it would work.

The software and computer used are leased (when the lease expires it's gone) and trying to put into place a temporary work around.WOW. This is exactly what I was LOOKING for!

I have a server running IIS6 whereby some USERS can connect while others cannot. Those users who cannot connect can ping the URL, and can perform a tracert so that is not the issue. Eg., the URL is my.company.com, they can connect to my.company.com/test, but when try something like my.company.com/test/us/xxx/yyy it just timeout [like I SAID some users have no issues].

Can someone recommend a way I can troubleshoot this strange issue, and also, how do I tell someone is hitting the URL whether it FAILS or not? They do not receive any http error CODE, just receive a "The connection has timed out" on both IE and Firefox.Have you tried looking in the IIS access logs? Are you using any kind of hardware/software firewall or application gateway?Issue has been resolved. The problem was that some desktops had an old PROXY server coded in their hosts file which was no longer being maintained. Used ieHTTPheaders to fine this out....
