Today I decided to change the style of my Mouse Pointer. I HAV a Logitech Cordless Optical Mouse. I am using Windows XP Home on my Dell Computer. I was able to select the "Pointer" I wanted.
I originally WENT to "Control Panel" and clicked on the Mouse Icon.
After selecting my Pointer, when I go to a site or to type a message here, a small "FLASHING Black Box" follows each letter I type. I tried going back to the Mouse's Default Setting, but the Black Box is still there. If I go outside this Message Box or outside where I type in on a website and left click, it goes away. When I get back inside the Message Box or website to type, as soon as I left click, the Black Box is back. I am using a Logitech Cordless Opyical Mouse.
Any HELP would be appreciated.
PtfitzyPut new batteries in...I'm SORRY but that did not work. In Mouse Properties, should there be any particular boxes that can be checked or unchecked to fix this.
I also tried a new mouse and my Driver is current.

I need advice. How do I set MS Outlook 2002 message format. I know there is three formats - TEXT, rtf and html. When I reply to message in any of these formats I want to html format - always. When I CREATE NEW message then I know where to set up this, but I don't know where to set up message format for reply.

I got a NEW hard drive for my computer. I took out the old one and started to install windows xp pro. half way thru there was an error. The cd is no good. I got a copy of another windows xp froma friend and when I put this one in and turn on the computer the screen says resuming windows setup. a minute later there is an error message saying basically that this cd does not MATCH the original one and is fatal.

How do I EITHER format the drive or start fresh from this cd?Assuming you are posting from another puter - my thinking right now would be to find and download a basic bootable file set (including a few tools including fdisk or similar) - and burn those to a CD.

And another article using a lot of EDITING, file swapping, etc, using a direct comprehensive approach with the XP disc (need ISO editor). Seems a bit full on though…

Well - any hit counter needs some ''behind the scenes'' function to record hits. There are cgi codes that can work but - IMO the ideal is one I use on many of my sites and pages.

Go to http://www.statcounter.com/ - sure you have to sign up but - once done you have a choice of many options and - later, you can log in and check stats etc.

If you really WANT your own code - check out sites that OFFER free cgi and php snippets - but still think you'll find statcounter very easy. Click on my www icon and if you go to one of my sites and look at page bottom/footer - you'll see it in ACTION.

Ive just built my own first COMPUTER i and im using crossfire ati 3870s X2 when i turn on the computer the BIOS and CD-Rom for Windows XP boots just fine but no matter if i go into the bios or the XP startup after about 2minutes of running the computer the monitor GOES to a no signal mode. ive tested it with 2 monitors and 2 cables that i KNOW work.

Im not truly sure what the problem is im THINKING it might be the powersupply which is a 600W coolmax i know that the RAIL for the 12V is at 18A where the graphics card recomends 30A i know this is a problem and i intend to fix it but im not quite sure if thats the problem or not.

ok heres my latest problem, i have just put nero8 on my puter and tried burning a dvd of a hoyle game that is on my computer from it and it says it is DONE but then when i try to play game from cd it doesnt start, so i went to my computer,and clicked on e drive then it says files currently on is hoyle but when i click it, it says string file (autorun.txt) not found. unable to run. Does anyone have a clue wht i may be doing wrong.

maryebthmarybeth, I have some confusion as to what medium of disc you are using to burn this file. You mention DVD then you say when i try to play the "CD" it won't play. Which is it? What type of file (to burn ) are you choosing in the Nero program IE: data,movie,music,etc.? Have you actually been able to use the Hoyle file from it's current location to play the program it is associated with?How are you bringing the program into the Nero? IE: drag and drop,import,etc.?When in Nero by whatever means does it show the percentage of use? Do you have the option to close the disc selected after the burn (if not it will not play)?When you do an examination of the disc (the one that now supposedly has the Hoyle program on it) from "my computer" (selecting the optical drive it is in) what does the DISPLAY indicate as to the condition of the disc? IE: percentage used/available? When the disc is in the drive and you right click on the drive icon and click on open or explore what appears? truenorthYou cannot simply copy a program to a CD/DVD and expect it to run...whether it comes from ANOTHER CD or your hard drive...

here goes, the hoyle poker games were put in my computer from my brothers actual disc. Ok the disk is actually a dvd r. I went to nero startsmart then went to rip and burn then went to burn data disc (cause i didnt have any other logical choices) then to data dvd then to nreo express and add then i BROWSED on desktop for icon and add to burn. Said it was done, and bada boom it wont play. when i go to my computer it say that hoyle is on the dvd but when i click on it the message about string file omes up If theres an easier way to do this I will try anything

marybethmarybeth,There is still some confusion re your process in my mind.You don't tell us how you got this "hoyle program" from your harddrive to the Nero program. You also haven't answered yet as to whether you "closed" the disc after burning.Additionally it occur rs to me (while i am not a gamer but have often observed grandchildren using my computers to play games) that it seems to be usually required that the disc for the game has to be in the computer in order to use it.I may be wrong on that due to my very limited knowledge of gaming. So that causes me to wonder what it was that got "INSTALLED" on your computer? Also what it is that you actually burned a copy of? I do a great deal of burning of all types so i do have some knowledge there. Although (others may find it good) Nero is not my favorite burning program. That being said it should do a good job for you though once you use it often enough.truenorth
P.S. I assume you have used Nero successfully before this isssue?All you have burned i'm afraid is the Desktop Shortcut...to check this put the DVD in Right clik the DVD drive and select Properties...it's probably a small file size.

NOTE: Since you are attempting to copy a paid program i'm not sure we can assist further.
Please advise if this is not the case...oh my goodness no it is Not a paid program i dont think. It is one of those game softwares u buy for 10 dollars. I dont think its an illegal copy. when i checked the amount on the dvd it says 764kbs. Gonna sound dumb here but is that alot or no. And to truenorth no I dont have to have the cd of game in to play. In nero it doesnt ask me to close the disk to complete the burn

These are sites i have been going to daily and never had this problem until the CH issues arose.Coincident to this (maybe a factor) i had updates from windows update. I have it set for user decision.I DOWNLOADED all the recent updates (3 i think).However i did not allow SP3 as i am still resisting that as i have observed users having problems after downloading that update. What i did do was go to another computer (both on xp) to have a look see. In addition to the info i included in my previous post i have discovered another issue. I can no longer sign in to my windows messenger account on the original computer. I can sign in on the 2ND one (same account name and password). On the 1ST one the message i get is that the service is not available try again later etc,etc. It provides an option in the window to check on the status of the service. Indicates the service is operational.Checking on my windows messenger version it show it to be 5.1 (above the 5.0 that could be causing a problem). I was about to do a system restore when i realized i had just downloaded some large .AVI files yesterday and felt if i did a restore i would probably lose them so i did not do it. In MS Word 2003, if I HIGHLIGHT a word/paragraph and press the Backspace button it doesn't delete the text. If I highlight a word/paragraph and type another word it doesn't delete the highlighted word/para. I'm forced to use the Delete button now. The Backspace button used to be my go to button- loved it. In FIREFOX, Windows, anywhere else I can still use Backspace as before; only Windows has this problem.

Another problem that I just notice is that I can press Tab to indent a paragraph, but when I try to use Shift+Tab to bring it back it simply pushes the text further to the right, as if I'd just pressed Tab again. Again this is only in Word. Maybe related?

I must have made some change but don't know what I did. I really don't remember doing anything out of the ordinary... Does anyone know how to change this setting? In MS Word, go to Tools --> Options --> Edit Tab and make sure that Typing Replaces Selection (FIRST OPTION) has a tick next to it.

As for Shift + Tab, it does the same thing as Tab on my computer.Brilliant, thanks a lot! I guess I assumed that the Shift+Tab worked to un-Tab like it does moving backwards between fields. OH well.

I have downloaded some 3GP videos off my mobile phone to my computer. I tried to play them but had to download and update real player and quick time. Doing this changed the icons for each clip from a real player icon to a pink video camera. But now when i try and play them it come up with : WINDOWS Media Player Error, Cannot play back the file. The format is not supported. (Error=80040265), it then lets me connect to microsoft (i think) but it says there are no errors to dispay, but i still cant play my videos. And now they are not on my Phone anymore ?? I really hope i haven't lost them as the are of my baby girl. I think the subject line SAYS it all, but I shall explain my problem anyway: -

A number of my end users use Microsoft Outlook 2000. Some of them wish to MODIFY there Outlook Today screen. However, when they click on the Customise Outlook Today button, they get no response. That is to say, the button does nothing.

I have tried looking for any relevent check boxes or other options in various MENUS, but to no avail.

The help menus just assume that it will always work.

Any ideas?

I just rebuilt my system (new cpu/mobo/ram/vid card). I am trying to reuse the old HDD with op system already installed. The system will POST ok and i can go into BIOS. But, windows XP won't start. KEEPS rebooting. Won't start in SAFE mode or any of the choices. I guess i thought this should work. Have i missed something basic here? I really don't want to reformat.

I have a document with a cover page (section 1), a table of contents (section 2), and then the main body of the document, which I had to split into 3 more section to accommodate a landscape formatted page in the middle of my portrait formatted document.
For the page numbering, I only want the main body of the document to be numbered, and I want to use the "Page X of Y" format. I have figured out how to get the page numbers, but my problem is the "total pages within the body of the document" (i.e. section 3, 4 and 5).
Maybe there is a field code out there, can anyone out there HELP me??

DumbfoundedThe fast WAY is to create two documents. What version of Office? Are you setting up the page numbers in a header or footer? That's where you see the "Page X of Y" format, right?

What is it doing, does the total number of pages in the "Page X of Y" format include all pages, not just the pages in section 3, 4 and 5?

In MS office word 2003 header or footer are available.header or footer makes easy to store the documents and consumes less time .

[REMOVED link]There are field codes for automating both page numbers and total number of pages, which I have USED for writing hundreds of reports in a previous job of mine.

I did this - Set up a footer for page numbering. Then perhaps hit the Control - R key to get to the right margin. Then type/perform this: "Page" (space) (Insert Field - Choose Page from Field Names) (space) "of" (space) (Insert Field - Choose NumPages from Field Names).

The resulting code is something like this (press Alt- F9 to view - after closing the header/footer):

Page {PAGE \* MERGEFORMAT } of {NUMPAGES \* MERGEFORMAT} to YIELD "Page 1 of 3" for example, and will update for any appended pages...

Similar can be done for date fields to auto update the current date if you want, and perhaps investigate using... insert - cross reference to certain pages say to text that are booked marked....

The problem wasn't actually in my ISA, it was in me. Upon teaching myself Windows Media Services I must have missed some important information. I set up the STREAMING service in the wmpub folder, which appeared to have worked the same as the inetpub folder. dropped my media and then tried to view on the net. Never worked.

The Fix: I put my media into a directory with my site (c:\site\media\test.wmv), which I hoped would at least allow me to offer the video as a download. I decided to go ahead and use my embed code to see what happened and the thing worked like a charm. I turned off the streaming service to see if it would work with out it and it didn't, so I know the WMS is no doing its job.

The one thing I still cant seem to figure out is that WMS broadcast using the MMS protocol, but no where in my firewall is the MMS protocol set to allow pass through. I wondered if maybe the HTTP protocol was tied to it somehow but couldn't come up with a definite ANSWER. So I let it go.

My husband uses large excel files and has no problem opening, working on, and saving them with his computer at work. However, when he opens them on his pen drive on the home office computer (and he often copies them to the hard drive and WORKS from there) he gets the message "not enough system resources to display completely." (Excel 2000 SP3) I have him stop all internet traffic on Zone Alarm and that SEEMS to help. Could it be a problem with the PARTITION drive. Our programs are on one partition and the data files on another. There is 7.16 GB of free space on the program partition and 17.1 GB on the data partition.I don't think the problem is the hard drive, more LIKELY ram or Excel itself.

Excel 2007 fixes this problem, but you'll have to save the file as .xlsx.

I use outlook express and have for the last 5 years for several email accounts I have. I have a local folder called Sent where copies of all my sent email goes. I periodically clear out those I don't need, but it had a lot of EMAILS in it.

I went to this folder today and it had cleared itself 2 days ago and only those files sent in the last 2 days are there.

Where did all the other email files go and how do I get them back?

Did you look in trash? Do you have HIDDEN files and folders turned on? That's all I can think of, except to prevent this happening in the FUTURE, check the preferences of Outlook. Or copy that folder somewhere else occasionally. Be aware that there might be a way to get them back, I just don't know it. You're talking about Outlook. He's using Outlook Express, not Outlook.

Very tricky and lengthy topic if you are new to this. The easiest way is to use an S-Video cable to hook your COMPUTER up to your TV. If you are not running an HDTV/Plasma then browsing the internet and your desktop is basically going to look like crap because tube televisions run on a resolution of 640x480 which most COMPUTERS don't even do anymore. But, watching TV or a Movie will look just fine. You need to have a somewhat new video card as well.

I am having a problem with sound output, in that I can't get any. I installed a webcam driver and when I restarted there was no sound output at all. I uninstalled the driver and restarted but still no sound.

The weird thing is I went into my REALTEK HD AUDIO Manager and pressed the the test button and my speakers produced sound fine. But Windows, My music, Web browser, Youtube, everything, will not produce any sound and I don't get it. I also tested in the Windows sound area and the speakers produced sound fine then as well, just nowhere else. I have tweaked with the sound but can't get anything.

I am RUNNING Windows Vista Home PREMIUM 64 Bit, a Logitech S200 Speaker set with Realtek HD Audio manager, and everything worked fine before this.

I've always had trouble with Dragon working in some text boxes on different webpages, but now it isn't working with a program I use for work. I work online with tutor.com and since they updated their program or since one of my Windows updates I can't dictate anything into the tutor.com program. I need to speech to text because my arms are disabled and now it looks like I'm out of a job because I can't dictate into the program. The tutoring company has done all they can to look into the problem and see if it is anything they can resolve on their end. I'm totally at a loss and I really need this job. I appreciate any HELP or feedback! I've disabled Windows 10 speech to text programs and updated all my drivers. Let me say something. I also have issues with Dragon and I need it because of my vision. Dragoon is a real help.

I have a list I purchased and downloaded in Excel. In the Excel spreadsheet I have a column of zip CODES. Many of them BEGIN with a leading zero ie. 07704. In Excel this displays correctly. I need to CONVERT the Excel file to a .csv file - which is the easy part, "Save As" .csv. Essentially I have been USING my computer running on windows 8 for a few years with zero issues. I have used the computer for basically just gaming and internet. One day I went to launch one of the games I (Battlefield 1) play almost daily and it failed to launch. I tried a few other games & software that are recent (battlefield 4, batman, GTA5, Adobe Premiere, etc) and they all had launch issues and some stating they could not connect to the internet.

I noticed two main things when this problem first started. One is that it appears that the games are having TROUBLE either getting permission to access internet or something is preventing them from launching. The second was that I noticed that my start tiles for apps for windows 8, on the start page, were no longer updating. Furthermore I could not download new apps or create a new account to launch and play my games that way because I would RECEIVE this error message consistently:

"Sorry, we couldn´t connect to Microsoft services at the moment, if this problem persists search for 'network problems' on then start screen"

Obviously I tried searching this in addition to doing the most basic typical solutions with zero luck. Of course I am connected to the internet VIA direct connection and when I try to make another account to SWITCH to I get the same message. I believe this issue is the culprit that is affecting my programs. I have spent countless days searching the web for a solution with no luck, I am actually praying someone could help me here!!!

But a SCREEN shot does not work. Even a screen shot of a screen shot. It is like there is a hole in my monitor and the movie is in the hole.

Hello, when I start my computer it shows a white line that isn't blinking in the top left corner. It stays there forever and the computer doesn't start. However if I turn the computer off by the button that stops electricity going to my pc it starts up. I read that turning your pc off like that is bad for it so i'm trying to find a solution (if I turn it off normally by clicking shut down, the next time I turn it on I get the line again). This is my first time posting here and i'm not an english speaker so sorry for grammar mistakes.Your system is almost acting as if its going into a sleep mode vs shutdown. Check power management and make sure that shutdown actually shuts down your system. I had a computer in the past that it had some RAM sticks in it that ran fine when the system was running, but in sleep mode where the RAM stores DATA for it to go live again and boot faster the system would act like yours and I would have a black screen and fans going. By unplugging the computer or flipping the power switch and starting fresh boot it would boot up fine. My solution was to replace the RAM.... BUT before you do that check into your shutdown to make sure its meant to shutdown vs sleep or hibernate and lastly before a RAM replacement I would suggest backing up your data to an external drive or cloud storage and then PERFORM a CLEAN install of the OS just to be sure its not some other issue. But this sure sounds like the RAM issue I had with a system that was going into sleep mode and didnt come back out of it healthy and only way to get it to boot was to replace the Value RAM in it with GOOD name BRAND RAM in which the problem was resolved. Also MEMTEST86 didnt detect any flaws in the RAM, but there was with sleep state with this value RAM.

I am having a world of hurt with the new Word update, and Microsoft's "MVPs" are encouraging me to delete all my old templates.

Trouble is, I have tricked this thing out from over 25 years of using it - keyboard shortcuts, and the like.

Double trouble is, while I am smart enough to create some basic macros, I'm not smart enough to figure out how to preserve them and install them on new templates.

Short of Editing each one, copying the text, and pasting it into a Notepad file, is there a smarter way? (I want contents, not just Macro names.)

You can use File->Import File on the same screen later to re-import them.

Rather than deleting templates I'd suggest renaming or moving them. Remember that the template files are really just ordinary word documents, so you can rename them to have the .doc extension (as long as your file explorer/Windows explorer is set to SHOW file extensions!) and then they should not automatically load or be regarded as templates.Thanks. For years I have used audacity. Last year I got a newer version of it and I installed it the right way,with the LAME THING.
Now, fore some resewn, my Audacity does not find the Lame DLL needed to export MP3. So I went to the website and found so much stuff there and I can not find a clear, COSINE guide as to how to get the LAME thing and let Audacity find it. I forgot how to do it. That is what old age does to you. Besides, it is the fault of the computer. It should not have lost the DLL thing.
So, can anybody show me the exact STEPS needed?

Why not simply post them to a file-sharing site ? ?Sharing them as they are in in file share is better. In order to size them down your going to kill the picture quality -or- frame rate greatly to get it sized down to an e-mailable size. Youtube has ability to upload them and keep them private or by invite as well. I use mainly youtube for sharing videos.And of course there are cloud services like Dropbox instead of emailing.All of the above already helps, thanks. But whatever I do, should not require of the reader/recipient to "open an account and obtain a username and PASSWORD ...", just to read the files. I myself do not mind going through some INITIAL effort.

You upload your data, share it out using their email, Dropbox sends them a 'here is a link to a file' message, they click it and pow, they watch your video.If they are too lazy to login to a file sharing site they dont deserve your efforts...Google Drive should lets you generate a link that will take people STRAIGHT to the file (with a in browser video player and everything) without having to sign in. Most other cloud storage providers should allow something like this too. Alternatively, you can upload the videos to somewhere like YouTube and set them to "Unlisted" - They won't appear in any sort of search results but will work fine if you send people the link.Thank you guys!

I am new to the forum and was looking for a program or instruction on how to
put a folder in startup and when the computer is started it would appear
in the middle of the desktop, but only on a certain date. I would also like

FESWould be easy to do with the BAT file, but there would be numerous other ways and utilities as well.
But any method would also be easy to disable and very reliant on whatever you set up to not get touched.


But the more disturbing fact is that you know your Death Date... Something like that would be better added to a DISC or USB stick and give that to a friend who would hand that to family when your gone. It would be the more reliable way of it getting to them. An actual date for it to appear, hopefully doesnt mean its a guarantee that your passing on that date such as suicide. If its suicide, please contact a suicide hotline and get help. Even with a TERMINAL illness people dont normally know their expiration dates. Having something pop up secretively like this is very questionable. If you have a terminal illness, i would have a trusted friend hand the data to family or have a lock box UNLOCKED with it in there with a note vs going about it with a folder populated to desktop.

Additionally creating a time bomb type event trigger like this can also be used for malicious intent. That is to nuke someones computer 20 days from now etc and them not knowing you planted it 20 days ago for example, system boots they logon and NUKE hits their C: drive etc. So I am not going to assist with a batch or any other coded method on this as for... you really need to have the info in the hands of someone trusted who can pass it to family.

I guess I didn't explain myself good enough. The reason I wanted to be able to

+1 on Dave's advice, do whatever it is you want - video, pop up message what have you and give it to someone you trust. Otherwise keeping it on the PC for d-day relies on the package not being found beforehand and the package being successfully triggered - two very big IF's.

when it come up and I'm still here. I do have a will, but that's not the
idea behind the videos. My friends are old too, like me and may not remember to

FESIf you have a deposit box at a bank, you can get a small one. When you pass your family would be notified by the bank of this. Every account you hold would be brought to their attention. When you initially set up your accounts with bank(s) they should have given you paperwork and a area to add beneficiaries. Some banks require the other parties to sign to this and others only require your approval in signed paperwork. This wont cost much. Additionally you can contact your bank to modify this if its not already set up this way. Without this setup on your accounts the accounts could sit for years and money and items unclaimed unless death certificate etc.

Also I was given a computer once from a family that was looking for disposal of a computer for free since dumps and computer shops charge money to get rid of computers, and it was their grandmothers. They never booted their grandmothers computer and never knew what was on it. It was me taking the initiative to gather her pictures and documents and burning them to a CD and contacting them that they might want this stuff before I format the system that saved that information from being forever lost. The family was very grateful for me doing this. There were pictures they never saw before that the grandmother took with a cheap camera that would dock with USB port to the system that were on the hard drive and nowhere else. Some of the pictures weren't just of the children that she babysat but were photos she took of her holding the children when they were toddlers etc. They were going to pay me for doing this and I said no charge, I will make money in the parts I salvage off of the computer that was given to me.

Also thank you for clarifying this as for my initial thoughts was that this was a possible suicide message as for no one knows when they are exiting the world unless intentional. I understand now why you want this, but feel that its not a perfect method of them getting what you want to give them, it could be lost and never seen. You really need a 3rd party to hold this like a banks safe deposit or a cheaper method being a cash box with it and a note on it on a thumb drive etc and telling them please view it but you stated that might not stumble on it which is odd. I'd think that someone would have to clean out your home etc although it could be handled by a hired service in which nothing found and everything disposed of which I really hope isnt the way this would be handled.

I am creating a table for work, I order parts for a mechanics shop. My table is basic, it has a columns for prices, vendors and status. In my "Status" column, I have a drop down menu with the following options: Researching, Pending, Ordered, Shipped, and Complete. What I am looking for is, when I choose an option in the "status" column I want the entire row to change COLOUR. EX: If I choose 'Pending, in row 15, all of row 15 changes to blue, and if I choose 'Shipped' in row 13 all of row 13 turns green.

I know how to do this row by row with conditional FORMATTING, my problem is I want to do it for the entire table which has 500 rows. Is there a way to apply to rule to the entire table WITHOUT having to go row by row?....sure can, use something similar myself.


in your Conditional Formatting Rules Manager, your current rule that changes one row, in the Applies to entry, change it to include the entire table.
for example, =$A$1:$Z$5000
when you add new rows, it'll auto update the $R$C values accordingly.

heh, 0.9.2. can output to AVI, but doesn't seem to have a way to input from a .mkv file.I have been finding ways of viewing what I can loosely call "downloaded content" on my TV SINCE around 2002. That year I bought an "Ellion" DVD player that could play Mpeg-4 (DivX and Xvid) from burned CD-Rs and DVD-Rs (and -RWs). Whoopee! That lasted about 5 years, started giving awful criss-cross patterning, I suspected failing capacitors somewhere. So I shopped around and got a Panasonic DVD player, same capability plus USB drive support. Now I could put AVIs on a pen drive. No more burning, except for stuff I wanted to keep. All this time I was using CRT TV sets with SCART. Both players had resolution limitations you might expect, so increasingly I was having to downscale some stuff using Virtualdub. Fast forward (!) to 2012. Got a Samsung 32" smart TV, and at the same time, a Seagate NAS with DLNA server. As my wife (who had misgivings) eventually said, "I'm glad you dragged us into the 21st century". Play MKV natively over ethernet. No more burning, no more pen drives. I still have half of a 50-stack of DVD-Rs and a bunch of 2,4,& 8 GB pen drives that I may donate to a museum some day. However that's no consolation to people with legacy hardware. There are honest, free, "FFMPEG GUI" type apps out there, including one called Avanti that I used to use. It's still available. The website says use version 0.9.2. You have to separately get a Windows build of ffmpeg and drop into a particular folder for Avanti to see. You can get and add AviSynth as well if you really want a complex experience. It has a (for me) ATTRACTIVELY "busy" interface, but here is what I just did using all default settings::



Didn't trouble the CPU unduly (unlike Handbrake). The "message/warning" was just an ffmpeg remark about a deprecated way of passing codec parameters, didn't stop anything:

My work replaced their COMPUTERS and I asked for one of their discards as it was the newest with Windows 7, but I found out that it contains a network setting asking for me to log in. Will I be able to remove these settings so that I can do a factory reset from the already installed windows?So do you mean:

I have used filter rules in Thunderbird and it can help, but its not perfect. Have you PLAYED with filter rules yet in Thunderbird and how complex of a sorting do you need?

Be prepared to go chasing down stuff or find stuff in wrong places if a rule is not set up correctly or between two categories you have a positive filter match that acts like a false positive in a subject line etc.

Deleting files I don''t want to keep is a chore getting as many mails as I do. Just want to be able to direct incoming rubbish into one directory and easily so easily clean it out guys! Well it doesnt have to be too complicated. Such as if you have clients or contacts that you want to go to one place and everything else another place thats not that hard to set up. Its harder when setting filter rules by subject line contents vs adding a list of known good e-mail sources you can have trusted or good sourced e-mail go to one place and rest goes to other or junk bin etc.The only way it gets overwhelming is by not doin due diligence on an ongoing basis...

In TBird you can clik multi instances of LETS say the same sender and create a folder for that...or delete if neccessary...What email service are you using? I find that gmail (Google's email service) does a good job of identifying spam and automatically sending it to a Spam folder. So, perhaps you should make a transition from your current email service to gmail.

Setting message rules can help, as mentioned in previous posts, but spammers have DEVIOUS ways of constantly changing the sender's address, thereby thwarting the use of filters or rules to send spam to the Trash or Spam folder. I just learned this:

Set an expiration date for a restricted file

Authors can use the Set Permissions dialog box to set expiration dates for content. For example, Ranjit might also decide to limit both HELENA's and Bobby's ACCESS to this document to May 25th, and then the permission to the document expires.

On the Review tab, under Protection, click Permissions, and then click Restricted Access.

I just had a document expire. It was sent to me by a friend. He did not tell me it would shut like a clam. I can not even delete it.

Any way I can open it? Delete it? Move it?
If it was an e-mail attachment, and you still have the email, try setting your system date sufficiently early. Then if you can open the attachment from the email and SEE the contents, copy/paste what you want to another document. Just an idea. Word has no way of checking the date other than the system clock.

Thanks. I had made a hard copy paper) and saved it to my documents and did not know it would expire. But I flush out my email and it got fused.
At least I go the hard copy.

Itr has nee around for years and is perhasp the oldest besetest Music Player ever.
Now it has been eaten by a huge big thing.
Not really news, just new to some of use who didn;t notice. Like me. Only when I went to download a new copy I found taht things have changed a lot.
