Solve : CorelDRAW Graphics Suite 12? |
Answer» Recently I bought from a charity shop a CorelDraw 12 full version graphics suite - really out of curiosity. When I checked what it could do I thought I had a real bargain. However, checking further I found there were only discs 2 and 3 of what I believe should be a 4 disc set. I think disc 1 is the installation disc and the others are different applications. As I'm not sure how it might affect my set up I've not tried LOADING anything to my pc - I thought I should get some advice first. Is it possible to get individual discs for programs? |

Solve : New Anti Virus? |
Answer» I have been a strong supporter of AVG for years now, but recently I've been questioning it's worth as viruses have been getting the better of it. I have now had several situations now where AVG has been rendered completely inert by viruses. I think this dog has had it's day. I've lately after extensive testing and being an original skeptic by natire been on the MSE bandwagon... What!? Leave Microsoft in charge of something important! :p I've decided to try out Avira (I forget why now, there was a GOOD reason though) after consultation of the CH database. I'm not so much interested in SPEED, I'm after RELIABILITY. |

Solve : Quickbooks? |
Answer» Hello Everyone, If your boss expects you to do the accounting with no accounting background, he/she is being very unrealistic. I work in a finance department and my experience is that accounting/finance background is what is needed, and is all that is needed. The only IT skills required are the ability to switch on the PC and "drive" the software packages, and you can train anybody to do that. Depending on YOUR priorities IE keeping your job with this employer. You may wish to point out to your employer that accounting practices as they relate to commercial enterprises are most often subject to external oversight (as to method/record keeping/veracity of produced results/etc. The consequences of any of the previous being improper due to whatever cause can be extremely negative to the business and or accountant if so determined. If i were in your shoes and really wanted to retain this employment and additional responsibility i would INSIST on the proper knowledge training commensurate with what your EXPECTED new duties will entail. I hope you will take this advice to heart BEFORE taking on these duties. As previously stated it is a high level knowledge skill and cannot be realistically self taught no matter how great your motivation. truenorth |

Solve : online armor issue? |

Answer» Greetings All - what's the name of that third party firewall, and does it have a default setting eh?? Quote from: glathem40 on July 07, 2011, 11:19:09 PM After several hours of frustration I tried disabling my online armor third party firewall - Its even in the title ! never really heard about it, but yes, did see it when I did an on-line search, figure it was some sort of cloud stuff Quote from: Biker on July 14, 2011, 04:42:25 AM never really heard about it, but yes, did see it when I did an on-line search, figure it was some sort of cloud stuff Why reply when you haven't even heard of the software Anyway back to the topic. Have you got the latest version of OA running ?? Is it the 'Paid for' or 'Free' version ?? Are there any 'Blocked Events' in the History or logs ??guess you mean, I can't ask then, shame, one would think maybe this was more of an open forum and not so closed minded like so many on-line wanna-be forums. I'm am not saying 'you can't ask', but your INTIAL post was in context to the OP. You asked a question, followed by advice. If you want to ask about third party firewalls you should start a thread or, more easily, use the search bar at the top right or google. This isn't a 'chat room'. It's a help forum, designed to give specific advice to specific questions. I am so happy ya PUT me in your correct place, guess I was right, another wanna-be forum, and run by a few children OutCan a Mod please delete all the posts #5 and onwards. Immature petulance isnt really needed, then we can go back to helping people. reddevilgg - Your reply got me to thinking and I had blocked SOMETHING that I did not recognize a short time before the problem started. Unfortunately I unistalled the program, so I can't go back and see what it was. It was probably my fault. I was just concerened at the time and wanted some reassurance from my friends at CH. I'm sure there is NOTHING wrong with Online Armor - just me (sometimes). Thanks again.Quote from: glathem40 on July 07, 2011, 11:19:09 PM After several hours of frustration I tried disabling my online armor third party firewall Sorry for my ignorance, but I don't know what "third party firewall" means. That said, I ask, "how many firewalls are you using at a given time"? I have been told by various sources, including knowledgeable users on this forum, that using more than 1 firewall can present problems. I'm just asking here to learn and maybe help. Solve : Graphics Conversion? |
Answer» I have two old "Publishing" programs (Print Shop Pro Publisher V.11 & Print Artist V., both of which won't, of course, run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. Both these programs have several graphics and clip ART discs that I would like to be able to use, but both use their own file extentions which make them incompatable with other programs (Including later versions of Print Shop and Print Artist). The extentions are - Print Shop ...... CDT and for Print Artist......MRB. Does anyone know of a way to convert these files to a usable condition, as I would be a shame to have to bin them. This article is about the VIRTUALIZATION software by Microsoft. For the generic term, see Virtual machine. May I suggest you try using a virtual machine to run programs that can not run in Windows 7 64 bit. OTHERWISE, conversion of an entire art library may become a dead-end project.Try 1 image from each programs library...don't attempt to convert a full library just to see if this experiment will go... DLoad install and update iRfanview for this task... One of the best image tools out there and Free... Best of Luck. |

Solve : Recovery Dsik Problem? |
Answer» I have a HP Laptop, G60-630US, which has just recently PASSED its warranty. Its hard DRIVE failed and I bought a replacement and put it in, I then proceeded to use the recovery disk that I MADE when I FIRST got the system to reinstall the OS, Windows 7. I got through disk 1-3 and was nearly done when it told me to "insert Recovery Disk #4" but there is no #4, when I made the recovery disk it only made 3. You can order the Recovery CD's from HP...normally for just a nominal shipping fee... Well then I was unable to find where. They want your model and serial number. This link is for US. http://h10025.www1.hp.com/ewfrf/wc/document?docname=c00810334&tmp_track_link=ot_recdoc/bph08097/en_us/c00810334/loc:3&lc=en&dlc=en&cc=usOk, found them and ordered a new set. In fact the labtop is back up and running. That's good news. Thanks for keeping us posted. |

Solve : transistors? |
Answer» How do transistors work? How many are used in CPU now opposed to the 1990's?Not sure... FactoidsQuote Today, consumers can buy a basic desktop PC with a workhorse Intel® Celeron® D processor, a 160 gigabyte (160 billion bytes) capacity hard drive, 256 megabytes (256 million bytes) of RAM, and a flat-panel monitor for less than $500 (U.S.). They can also buy a super high performance PC with an Intel® Core™2 Duo processor, 4 gigabytes of RAM , a 500 gigabyte hard drive, and deluxe graphics and sound systems for less than $2,300. I'd definitely update that part. Quote from: tdjenn on June 02, 2011, 06:57:28 PM How do transistors work?A transistor is a semiconductor device which amplifies current. It has three doped layers, either npn or pnp. Picture a transistor as a small device with three terminals, each called base, collector and emitter. When a voltage of more than the junction voltage (usually about 0.6V) is across the base circuit, the depletion layers are broken down and current can then flow in the collector-emitter circuit. You get the RESULT: emitter-current = base-current + collector-current. 'Bout time my learning of physics CAME into use. Yes, that explains how a transistor is used as an amplifier. Additionally, the transistor can be used as a switch, which is the basis for the functioning of a CPU and the computer PSU. |

Solve : Resetting passwords on install disk? |
Answer» Hi, I have an install disk with product key for Windows XP Pro 2000 that I purchased used on LINE. It loaded XP OK and the install is alright with Microsoft. The disk asks for administrator's password for some features, like 'repair'. Is there a way to change or reset the admin password on this Windows system disk? 1. Can you post a screen shot of the disk showing the label of the disk? an install disk with product key for Windows XP Pro 2000 that I purchased used on line. Microsoft Disk are LOCKED copy writed to prevent tampering with so there is no way the disk is asking for the Admin password. The computer might be asking for the password but the disk no. Let's suppose the Windows XP disk is a normal RETAIL version. The repair is used only if there is an installed system. But when you install the system, you know the password because your gave it. Otherwise the password is for the current installation. If your are new to this, start with a hard drive that does not matter. Just go ahead and do the FULL install. You format the drive and thus destroying the data or at least the file system. When it asks for a password during the installation, you at that point set the password the first time for a clean install. Many users PREFER to leave the password blank. That works. Later you can set it if you want. Pick something you can remember. |

Solve : media help? |

Answer» I have media player clasic Home And few here would ever use media player classic Home. Why do you say that?Quote from: BC_Programmer on June 06, 2011, 06:38:34 AM Why do you say that? Why some never use Media Player Classic Home For these reasons: 1. They don't know about it. Not an advertised l product. 2. It is a GPL . Some shy away from anything like that. 3. For awhile it was poorly maintained . But that has changed. 4. It is very compact, not a lot of bells and sequins. 5. They stick with what they have and never try anything else. Furthermore, it has both 32 bit and 64 bit version, which is just to hard to understand how a free product could possibility do that.Quote from: Geek-9pm on June 06, 2011, 08:21:25 AM 1. They don't know about it. Not an advertised l product. There aren't advertisements for things like Linux Mint, FreeBSD, or Fedora, but plenty of people know about and use them. Quote 2. It is a GPL . Some shy away from anything like that.People who shy away from GPL'd software when they only intend to use that software are paranoid. avoiding it when you are deciding how to license your own software or when you want to fork an existing project is sensible. Quote 3. For awhile it was poorly maintained . But that has changed. Looks to me like it has been well maintained since 2006. Second, that equally applies to a product like Internet EXPLORER, which still got plenty of users. Quote 4. It is very compact, not a lot of bells and sequins.Explain to me how this is a bad thing and why people would avoid it based on that premise? Quote 5. They stick with what they have and never try anything else.Except your original quote was "few here would ever use Media Player Classic home" and by saying that you imply that it is in fact those of us who primarily assist that avoid it. Nearly anybody who frequents a computer help forum is going to be either curious or concerned enough to try different software then what they use; while there are, for example, some users who choose to use IE as their primary browser, they have tried other browsers. No doubt this is the same as the case for something like Windows media Player. Quote Furthermore, it has both 32 bit and 64 bit version, which is just to hard to understand how a free product could possibility do that. what? It's really quite simple. See, when they build the 64-bit version, they use gcc's -march option to compile for one of the available machine types that the compiler uses 64-bit extensions and instructions for. It's really quite simple to understand, really. Most Linux distributions- which are also free products, do this as well. As for the original Post: Quote And it plays every video file ok but my DVDs it plays Upside Down. What DVD video codec are you using? Have you installed any "codec packs"? http://forum.videohelp.com/threads/97272-My-video-is-upside-down That said, a quick fix would be to probably use the right key combinations for what you want to do; you want to rotate the Y Axis, and the default key mapping for that is Alt+Numpad 4 and Alt+Numpad 6. No all my DVDs play Upside Down I want to watch them Rightside UP. SorryQuote from: nymph4 on June 06, 2011, 10:23:57 AM No all my DVDs play Upside Down Yes. I know that.I just tryed Realplayer and it wont play my VOB files. It says it is going to Realplay website to get a program so it can play it. And it spins and spins and spins but never gets it. I would get VLC again but they say they will never soppurt Frame by Frame. They just go frame by frame ahead. Do you know of any free good players for DVDs that I wont need more codecs just install and go?? And that SUPPORTS frame by frame?VLC can do step by frame very well. I did not know it was there. Also, thee is a way to capture frames one-by-one OK I know it can do this but it can't go back frame by frame can it? And 2. I can put my mouse on the timeline in zoom player and use the whele to go forword and back frame by frame. But it goes 5 sec at a time. How can I ajust it?The next BUTTON sets a loop. So it will walk through a number of frames and chart over. Isn't that good enough? |

Solve : Macromedia Authorware Application 6.0.0.0 fit to screen issue? |
Answer» An instructor GAVE me a training APPLICATION that was created in Authorware 6.0.0.0 and the display of my LAPTOP maxes out at 1366 x 768. The application does not fit to my screen in which the bottom portion of the application is inaccessible. Does anyone know how to force this to work with my display? Not sure if there is software out there that SOMEONE might know of to make applications force to stay within say 1366 x 768?Checked back with teacher and we checked out the screen resolution of the systems running it and they are running on wide screens with dimensions of 1680 x 1050. So thats the resolution that this application runs correctly on...so if I can make that work on my resolution of 1366 x 768 that would be cool. I am guessing that it should be able to get scrunched to fit to screen, but not sure how to make it fit to screen vs the current portion of the application with the rest of it inaccessible to interact with.Presumably the window isn't resizable?Yah it goes to full screen mode instead of a windowed environment, similar to a power point presentation. It has test bugs that you can use a virtual meter and troubleshoot virtual circuits for a machine I am getting certified on. Kind of neat application to familiarize yourself with the circuits, mainly power up issues with hundreds of PLACES it can go wrong like e-stops, interlocks, fuses, circuit breakers, prox switches, and on and on. |

Solve : Kaspersky?? |
Answer» WHATS the word on Kaspersky a.v.? is it good?I WOULD have to say that Kaspersky is not for EVERYONE. It's powerful but not the best for users with no real experience. I've found the user interface to be SOMEWHAT convoluted when I have PLAYED with it. As far as a 'paid' AV it's up there with the best. You may want to ask in the Virus and Malware section of the forum to see what the resident experts think. I switched to Kaspersky about 7 years ago and have nothing but praise for the product. I use it on all of my systems and think it is the best out there. Their support forum is also superb. |

Solve : Notepad2? |
Answer» Hi, Notepad2 is an open-source text editor for Microsoft Windows, released under a BSD software license. It is written by Florian Balmer using the Scintilla editor component, and it was first publicly released in April 2004. Balmer based Notepad2 on the principles of Microsoft Notepad: small, fast, and usable. ... Special test formatting requires saving a file in a format like RTF or HTML, but not a plain TXT document. A list of test editors: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_text_editors Hi Geek, All above my head I'm afraid, think I'll revert back to Windows Notepad. Regards, DaveQuote from: davecabezo on July 08, 2011, 02:43:05 AM I can't find out how to underline text. That is because it cannot. Neither can notepad.davecabezo. For making letters, pamphlets, hand0outs and simple presentations you can use Wordpad to create and edit RTF FILES, which are similar to Word DOC files. Word pad and do a visible page with bold, italic and underline barbecue the file format is more than simple plain text. And it will print on any printer. Try Wordpad. It will do what you want without being too much. And you already have it. Look in Accessories, the same area where found Notepad. Many thanks, DaveAutomatic source code formatting may be something very handy, of course. But adding this to Notepad2 would mean a lot of extra effort on incorporating and maintaining the required libraries, and this would increase the size of the Notepad2 executable file. Also, to be complete, this would have to be offered for any syntax scheme supported by Notepad2. And, a big deal of additional user interfaces might be necessary to make the many options of the source code formatters available to the user.EMACS!OK, Where would I find INFO on what your talking about but it must start off in simple terms. I learnt in my youth to program in Basic then did a little in Pascal. What do these scripts etc do? I know that Notepad can be used to give instructions to other programs but what is the language etc.etc. Also while I'm here, I'm retired and was thinking of learning to help on the forum re malware removal, can you point me in the right direction, Regards, daveClik Here...Quote from: davecabezo on July 10, 2011, 11:06:44 AM Also while I'm here, I'm retired and was thinking of learning to help on the forum re malware removal, can you point me in the right direction.Go to SuperDave's profile and send him a PM regarding training for malware and virus removal.I said EMACS as a inside joke! There is, in fact, an EMACS for Windows. Originally is was, and still is, and important part of the UNIX stuff. Heavy stuff! If your interest is mostly using a PC for parasitical things, like writing spam letters and making grandiose business reports, consider Microsoft Word, Microsoft Excel and then other members of the Microsoft Office suite. Yeah, I am kind sarcastic. But in the present economic environment it is dog eat dog. People see technology as a way to get ahead, even at the expense of others. Of course, present company excepted. Just adding some humor. Scripts a re just ways of d something that is to tedious to do by hand. That is a broad generalization. An example would be a script, or rule, the would move all SPAM from your inbox when you get new email. You can customize the mechanism already in the email program by just making of some simple rules that fit your needs. Technically, that is no a full script, but it is along the concept of making a thing that will automatically do something that OTHERWISE would take your time if it had not been done by the E-mail application program. If you like to dip into more of what can be done at a lower level of control, you may wish to study one of the general purpose script or interpretive programs. A very good choice of such a tool is called Python. It is simple and powerful and widely used. http://www.python.org/ But, as Quantos said, the need on this forum is for virus experts.Dave Clark, you already asked this on Bleeping Computer. And got told the answer. Anyhow, text editors don't do stuff like underlining. Not the way you are thinking. You want a word processor. Heavy stuff!REAL Unix users use VI. Emacs is a great operating system, just lacking a decent text editor. (this is even more hilarious because I've hardly used either emacs or VI) |

Solve : Need help finding some particular business software...? |
Answer» Good evening. I'm looking for a type of software/website that would allow me to map certain STREETS so I know where I have been/going to. For example...Let's SAY I serve a certain street/house. I'd LIKE to be able to make notes and input INFORMATION on that particular house and then have that house "blacked out" or "crossed off" the list. I would also need this software/website able to be accessed online by multiple USERS. Does anything like this exist? Any questions, let me know. I'll be on all night. Thanks |

Solve : Autocad on a netbook?? |
Answer» will i be able to install & use AUTOCAD (any version) on my netbook? The whole concept of using AutoCad is 3D modeling and rendering full screen...AutoCAD LT (LT=Light) doesn't do 3D modeling and rendering full screen, so it's hardware requirements are significantly less. I have it & use it from time to time. I used to use it every day at work.Quote will i be able to install & use AutoCAD (any version) on my netbook? Since AutoCAD has been around since the 386 processor, I don't doubt there is a version you can use. You'll just need to workaround the OS-compatibility issues that are sure to arise. AutoCAD isn't necessarily a 3D CAD program, one of it's features allows for 3D viewing, but generally I've (personally) always associated AutoCAD with Polylines and drafting, and other primarily 2-D tasks. when I think "3D program" I think of 3DS Max (which coincidentally is provided by the same company). The only way to surely answer this question is to try it. Theorizing about what it can and cannot run and how it compares to other machines that other people have run the software on successfully get's us nowhere.Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 06, 2011, 07:00:02 PM The only way to surely answer this question is to try it.
