I came across SOMETHING called 'anchor shield' . A free access to i pod progs from the UK for ex-pats.
Is it SAFE?Anchorfree HotspotShield? I have tried it, but the last time it worked in China was the beginning of last year.

As for safety, I'd say no if you are going to be USING it for personal data-you're piggybacking on someone else's network.Also it almost certainly violates the UK provider's terms of service. For example if the BBC makes its downloads available to UK IP addresses only, why should I, a BBC TV licence payer, subsidise foreign based freeloaders? Also why do (mostly British) people put a hyphen in the word expat (short for EXPATRIATE?)

I was able to install Witcher 2 a couple of months ago without a problem, but now, when i TRY to reinstall it on the same system i get this error message at the beginning of the install.

"The following error occurred on the FILE 'C:\Program Files\InstallShield INSTALLATION Information\{F0A2)9B7-7F85-4BDD-8F1F-B98EEAD9E04B}\setup.exe'.

Access is DENIED
(0X5)"

Abort will abort
Retry does nothing
Ignore continues the installation with more errors, but finishes installing. The game does not work however.

searching a solution for the probelm, I am pretty sure the problem does not have to do with the game but rather InstallShield or something else. I have seen posts of similar problems but with other game or applications when people are trying to install. However, none of their solutions seem to work for me.

I only have one account (admin) with full privileges. I have tried various registry optimizers/cleaners. I have properly uninstalled the game prior to trying these installs. I have even manually deleted any witcher registry files. The disc is brand new and clean.

I have just connected my pc with HDtv with HDMI cable and it works fine except that to change from one to another I have to reboot pc. Is there anyway around this? Recently I bought from a charity shop a CorelDraw 12 full version graphics suite - really out of curiosity. When I checked what it could do I thought I had a real bargain. However, checking further I found there were only discs 2 and 3 of what I believe should be a 4 disc set. I think disc 1 is the installation disc and the others are different applications. As I'm not sure how it might affect my set up I've not tried LOADING anything to my pc - I thought I should get some advice first. Is it possible to get individual discs for programs?

Any advice would be appreciated.

The version you have (12 ) was created in 2003 and ONLY functions with win 2000 and xp. Secondly there are free full featured versions of the most current software available from the Corel site for use for 30 days. The 2 discs that I have are in the original DVD case, listing PhotoPaint and R.A.V.E, and include Product Authenticity Card with registration code. I presume the CONTENTS of these would not work without the disc 1 needed for installation?

I have a computer with WinXP PRO SP3 Celeron 2.8 and 1.5 Gig of RAM. I have had this old thing for many years and it works quite well. So I put my old disk in the drive to load Microsoft word on to it and it all works OK. So I most likely upgraded to the office CD....
There was something about having AN office APPLICATION on the drive to upgrade to office, is why I put word and excel on it.

Recently (like a year ago matbe longer) it comes up with "This copy of Office in not genuine."

Mind you , I dont use this computer much... but it is annoying every time that I try to use these programs to have the Genuine advantage crap thrust upon me.

How can I get rid of this @#*&$#@ every time I start to use it.

I have been a strong supporter of AVG for years now, but recently I've been questioning it's worth as viruses have been getting the better of it. I have now had several situations now where AVG has been rendered completely inert by viruses. I think this dog has had it's day.

Just IMHO...If your boss expects you to do the accounting with no accounting background, he/she is being very unrealistic. Why do MANY universities confer degrees in accounting? Because it's a specialized body of knowledge.

QuickBooks a popular small business accounting program and, I believe, fairly user friendly in the way its user interface is designed. But, still, having no accounting background is going to present some major challenges. Your boss should know this is going to involve a learning curve for you to encounter and I totally agree with patio that this should involve a salary increase. Just wanted to throw this out there - I have 1 xp laptop and 1 win7 desktop networked. Yesterday I found that on the Win7, both I.E. and Firefox could not display any web pages, yet through control PANEL I could see I was connected to the internet. On the xp, I.E. would not work but Firefox was working fine. After several hours of frustration I tried disabling my online armor third party firewall - All is well. Just wondering if anyone has had any related experience/issue.

I USE OE. How do I BLOCK an email ADDRESS and automatically send them a message telling them they are Blocked?
HIGHLIGHT a message from the person you want to block. Select "Message" then "Block Sender..." from the menu. Click "Yes"

I think you will need to send them a message maually to tell them they're blocked.

You're not doing this to junk mail by any CHANCE, as i would not recommend it.

I have two old "Publishing" programs (Print Shop Pro Publisher V.11 & Print Artist V., both of which won't, of course, run on Windows 7 Home Premium 64-Bit. Both these programs have several graphics and clip ART discs that I would like to be able to use, but both use their own file extentions which make them incompatable with other programs (Including later versions of Print Shop and Print Artist). The extentions are - Print Shop ...... CDT and for Print Artist......MRB. Does anyone know of a way to convert these files to a usable condition, as I would be a shame to have to bin them.

Converting a large library is a time-consuming job. And the conversion might destroy some detail or other information that you may want to keep.

If you have a legal CD of an early 23bit windows OS, you can install it as a virtual OS inside of Windows 7 64 bit. Does not take a long time to do. Once you have it, you could run all the older programs you have. A VM runs a bit slow, but t have use of the features found only in the older program, such as reading a propitiatory file format.

Let's start by seeing if this will be the correct subforum to do so here goes my plans:

I want to create the newest most badass antimalware ever! For years I have used Linux LiveCDs to clean systems with the greatest ease and success so I am pretty sure I want to use a Live environment this does not mean we need to load up Knoppix or our favorite version of Ubuntu, other options include Bart's PE, UBCD, and others. What I have no clue on is where to start.

I will be doing some reading and posting links as they come. If you have something that could give me a nice kick in the @55 please let me know.

P.S. I started making something in PowerShell but I don't think that will meet my needs, I also know python, AHK, and am willing to learn what ever needed.Why Re-invent the Wheel... Well we could say that is why I have made this post. I will give this a try but not without first saying that I want to make something that works as well as combofix and superantispyware and all of the others in in 1 scanning/cleanup tool. I hate the hours it takes to clean a computer these days and my family is always having me out to clean their computers. I did find some interesting reading last night. I will post links for those interested but now I have to go play with this new 'toy'. Generally, any "goal" of the sort "I want to create the best X ever" is doomed to fail, especially with regards to software.

It's an ego-centric goal. The goal isn't to create the best X ever, it's to associate your name with the best X ever.

Do you have any real programming experience? Are you really trying to create a malware tool or are you going to combine a bunch of other tools written by others to create some sort of LiveCD? and If so why? combining tools is already being done, and far more effectively, by others.

In order to create a Anti-malware tool, you will, at the very least, need to be intimately familiar with:

how malware INFECTS a machine. This means the exact attack vectors- what registry keys it changes, where it places and how it places files on the hard drive, how to identify those files, and so forth.

The Win32 API. Especially with regards to the use of null characters in some registry keys/sections that can be used to effectively hide them, and how to workaround them. As such you would also need to be familiar with the on-disk Registry format, a write-up on which can be found here. Because the more infectious malware will install rootkits that will basically cause the win32 API to give you false information and not return any information indicating the malware, you would also need to create your own IMPLEMENTATIONS that use direct Disk access and read sectors/clusters and interpret the on-disk structures to try to find malware- (example: RootkitRevealer, which both interprets on-disk structures itself as well as reading the registry itself (to circumvent the known issues involving null characters and API hooking to hide registry entries). Then you'll need some sort of signature engine to detect those pieces of malware that otherwise hide in plain sight.

Thing is, all the Anti-malware tools that are prevalent now:

1. Are written by one person, but do only one thing, and try to do it well. These are usually written by people with an extensive background on the subject.

2. Are written by a number of people, and do a number of things well. Again, paid professionals working in their field of expertise.

what you are trying to do is create a third category, a anti-malware program written by one person, who, from what I can TELL, has no actual background in the intricacies of malware cleaning and has so far only been a user of tools in category 1 and 2, and that program will not only be "the best ever" (somehow PUTTING the tools written by professionals in the field to shame) but also will be what amounts to a "weekend project" of sorts.

I hate to be negative but this is just unrealistic. It's the equivalent of saying "I want to create the best IMAGE editor ever" and citing your use of other image editors as "experience". That might help you know how to make things look from the users point of view, but it doesn't give you additional insight over how it works internally.

What it really sounds like you want to create is not the "best anti-malware ever" but rather the best malware-cleaning Environment, that is, an environment that you run those other tools in. This is a bit more realistic but that area has already been saturated with products, including those you mention. What exactly can you add to things like Bart's PE, UBCD, etc that will make it better for your purpose? If you can answer that question, then do it.

At the moment l have windows Firewall, Avast AV, Spyware Blaster, and SuperAntiSpyware all running realtime.
I've just manually updated Malawarebytes and it is now giving me realtime protection for a trial period only.

I'm typing this after accessing your site via one IE session. Now, as we speak, on the taskbar another IE has just opened, flashing orange, and it's from an ad company. Ooops, up has come MBAM again with yet another Chinese IP address, 58.218.199.227 trying to access the system.
Why is all this happening all of a sudden?
I was under the impression that Firewalls can be set to block specific incoming traffic. Although i have never specifically set mine up to do so.

You may be right, but if l go into my bulk standard Windows Firewall (advanced section) l can allow exceptions, but can't see anything anywhere about blocking!
So MBAM keeps blocking these 4 incoming Chinese ip addresses from accessing the system, and as well as that, every time l access the Comp Hope site, another session opens up automatically in IE from a French advertiser (well, l am in FRANCE), trying to sell me stuff. I must point out that it is a genuine SELLING site so although not a threat, it's just annoying.
So, l was wondering whether there is a real time program that allows me to block anything carte blanche.
(ie by site name, by a specific ip address, or by a block of ip addresses).
Obviously Windows Firewall doesn't!

Have outed Windows Firewall and am trying out PC Tools Firewall.
You can do a lot more with it, but you still can't block ip addresses! It does seem better, but hogs the system a bit!
Anyway, so far, the ad tab in IE hasn't popped up yet, so will see what happens re the ip addresses.

Whether or not it's a coincidence, have traced these "events" to another forum site that l use (a pucker one l might add).
Seems that when l logon there, things start happening. Funny thing is, they were down for about about 4 hrs whilst doing major updates to their database, and these things only started to happen once they were up and running again.
Have therefore pm'd them to see if there is in fact a problem.
PCTools by the way seems pretty *censored* good. It hogs the system because it is testing EVERYTHING that it carries out, but then it asks you to allow/disallow things that are done. You then either allow/disallow, it remembers the answer, and doesn't ask again.
For some strange reason, my system is now thundering along (l'm not complaining!).

I have a HP Laptop, G60-630US, which has just recently PASSED its warranty. Its hard DRIVE failed and I bought a replacement and put it in, I then proceeded to use the recovery disk that I MADE when I FIRST got the system to reinstall the OS, Windows 7. I got through disk 1-3 and was nearly done when it told me to "insert Recovery Disk #4" but there is no #4, when I made the recovery disk it only made 3.

As such I have a couple of questions.

1) Is there even supposed to be a 4th disk?
2) If I get new recovery disk, will it have all of the HP stuff or just Windows 7?
3) Where can I find a recovery disk for this system?

And while were here, if there are only supposed to be 3 disk, then why is the thing ASKING for a 4th?

Hi, I have an install disk with product key for Windows XP Pro 2000 that I purchased used on LINE. It loaded XP OK and the install is alright with Microsoft. The disk asks for administrator's password for some features, like 'repair'. Is there a way to change or reset the admin password on this Windows system disk? 1. Hi guys, ever since I got my new computer, I realized when I play a GAME. It'll minimize. Nothing appears in the background as if something interrupted it. It just seems to minimize and require me to bring it back up again. I dont know why. Anyone got any ideas?
This happened with me until i changes the settings in my Anti-virus. I have AVAST and it has a Silent / gaming mode. This stopped any ALERTS while a full screen app is running. If you dont have Avast then are you running Windows Messenger or something similar. It may be MINIMIZING when you recieve a message. Same thing here with some games. Solution was to change their compat settings and use "disable desktop composition" on them. No problems since.Well, I DO infact use MSN when I play, HOWEVER when I get these minimizes its not giving me alerts. Im not getting any alerts at all.

This happens usually on older games like GTA SA, and 911 First Responders. Doesnt seem to happen on GTA IV however.

I've disabled desktop composition on one of em so Ill see if that helps.

When I Ctrl+Click on a hyperlink in my Word document where I had previously created a hyperlink, I now get the following message: "This operation has been canceled due to the restrictions in effect on this computer. Please contact your system administrator." I am the only user of my PC. Previously, the hyperlinks were working just fine.
This is not an IE problem nor is it a MS Office problem per se. This is a Registry problem caused by misbehaving DEFAULT browser selection and deselection, if that MAKES sense. I BLAME Chrome. Have you recently deleted Chrome?

This usually works. I think it’s the official MS fix:
Click Start, and click Default Programs
Click Set program access and computer defaults
Click Custom, select INTERNET Explorer and click OK
Close and re-open Microsoft Outlook

That usually works; if it doesn’t you take it up a notch. Note that several steps below may be completely unnecessary.
•Get rid of all traces of Chrome you can find; it leaves bits and pieces everywhere. You can reinstall it later.
•Set Firefox and other non-IE browsers to NOT check for being the default browser. Set IE to definitely be the default browser.
•Run a registry cleaner. Now fire up IE again and verify that it is the default browser.
•Cold restart, and fire up IE again. Try the link problem again.
•If this works, and it worked for me with XP Pro – Outlook, Vista – Gmail, and Vista – Hotmail combinations, you're set. If not, you’re stuck with zapping references to Chrome in the Registry, and that’s not such a fun way to go.
•...And NEVER run Chrome as the default browser again unless you plan to make it permanently so.

Course they may be one and the same...I have never installed Chrome, and I could not find in on my system, so that can't be the problem. I checked and found that IE already is my default browser. K I baffled at this problem. I have a CQ5310UK computer model with windows 7. The STUFF is the same since I have gotten it I mean I have not changed any hardware inside the PC since I got it bout 10 months ago.

Why do you say that?

1. They don't know about it. Not an advertised l product.

2. It is a GPL . Some shy away from anything like that.

3. For awhile it was poorly maintained . But that has changed.

There will always be a software AVAILABLE or to suggest but then why do you need to copy all and everytime? I do think EVERY computer has the same programs/softwares or games installed and not as personalized computer for every user. It is for public usage and are restricted for saving any files(unless needed to be printed) and is mostly for online games(which should be installed individually) and also browsers for browsing and so for video calls or chatting. You can create an image but most for this case is you have to install it again. I keep my iTunes library (and a lot of other stuff) on a portable HD.

While I perform the occasional "real" backup of data, I usually (weekly or so) would sync it with a Briefcase version on another HD kept in a safe location. Although it didn't keep histories, I always knew I had a current version safe somewhere.

Lately, the Briefcase update been failing. (I don't recall the exact MESSAGE, but Googling it found LOTS of other people in similar boats).

I'm running Win 7, both in 32- and 64-bit machines, and have received the same failure regardliess of which machine the laptops are hooked up to. I have had other Briefcases continue to Update properly, so I'm jumping to cause and presuming my library has gotten to darn big for Briefcase to handle well. (It's over 20GB).

SO.............

I'd like to find some other software that behaves like Briefcase. I've tried SyncBack, but if you delete a file off of EITHER the Master or the Clone, it would rather restore it to the missing disc, rather than deleting it off the other.

(In other words: In my portable HD, let's say I delete "Kings and Queens" by Aerosmith. When I update on Briefcase, I would EXPECT it to prompt me - do I want to remove this file from the clone, or restore it to the master? When I run SyncBack, it just puts it BACK on the master.)

So, any suggestions for other software. I liked Briefcase for its simplicity!bumpTake a look at Allway Sync. It allows the user to tell it which direction to sync, so I think it might be solution for you. I've been trying it out. I think you're right. Going to keep fingers crossed for one more backup before that becomes a full endorsement.

An instructor GAVE me a training APPLICATION that was created in Authorware 6.0.0.0 and the display of my LAPTOP maxes out at 1366 x 768. The application does not fit to my screen in which the bottom portion of the application is inaccessible. Does anyone know how to force this to work with my display? Not sure if there is software out there that SOMEONE might know of to make applications force to stay within say 1366 x 768?Checked back with teacher and we checked out the screen resolution of the systems running it and they are running on wide screens with dimensions of 1680 x 1050. So thats the resolution that this application runs correctly on...so if I can make that work on my resolution of 1366 x 768 that would be cool. None of the suggestions, including the various links with additional information given, has helped in this matter, and I was wondering if anyone else has ever figured out this issue.

I currently have a HD 1920 X 1080, 29.97 fps, 00;23;43;00 minute film edited in Premiere Pro.

I have 4 video tracks (including 1 transparent), and 3 audio tracks.

I am attempting to render out a .mov with H264 compression with 100% quality at 1920 x 1080 using the Adobe Media Encoder.

I've also tried rendering smaller and less quality quicktimes with the same results.

All of the imported files are quicktimes .mov's rendered out of Adobe After Effects CS3, using the Photo-JPEG codec with no (best quality) compression.

With one exception. I am using one .avi file and have unlinked the video from the audio, and am just using the audio from it.
The premiere project file is located on an external USB hard drive (my C drive is full), and the scratch disks are directed to that same drive, with more than 60% free space on it.

I have checked for gaps in between clips/sequences using the page up and page down method, and have found none. I have also looked for audio being longer than the video, but haven't found that either. For the sake of thoroughness though, I have laid down an additional video track with a transparent video to be on the safe side.

I have optimized the rendering for memory, and have set the affinity for the premierepro.exe in the task manager to the first processor only. (I have 4)

I have cleared the memory cache and attempted multiple reboots.

I have closed audio waveforms, closed video picons, and closed the Program Monitor.

All to no avail.

Importing this PP file into a new PP file, loses all of the edits I've made.

When I render, I still get either one of, or some combination of the following errors.

This error pops up most frequently. During rendering, it will stop arbitrarily, never on the same frame so far, and then I have to hit continue multiple times, and the program allows me to continue to work on my edit.

Sometimes these errors are accompanied by PP crashing, sometimes not. Sometimes, PP won't even begin rendering and will crash immediately upon pressing the render button.


What makes this all the more frustrating is that I've already rendered out a 7 minute version of this film, using the exact same After Effects rendered .mov files. In fact, I merely added onto what was already there for this longer version.

The only thing that I can think of left to check, that might be an issue (I am still learning), is that when I began rendering my quicktimes in After Effects CS3, I sent the project to the render cue in After Effects, I render at best quality, full resolution 1920 x 1080, using the Photo-JPEG codec with no (best quality) compression.

In the Composition Settings, I have the Preset set at HDTV 1080 29.97, 1920 X 1080, 29.97 fps. However for 75% of my work as was rendering with the Resolution drop box at quarter 480 x 270.

At some point I noticed this, and thought, well gee, I want HD, so I rendered the remainder of my quicktimes with the Resolution dropbox set at full, 1920 x 1080. I thought this was odd, because all the quicktimes that I rendered out with the Resolution at quarter, seemed to come out into full 1920 x1080 HD, but figured I’d change it nonetheless to see if there was a change.

I have not rendered a new version out of Premiere Pro since I made that change in my After Effects rendered quicktimes.

I am in the process of checking to see if DELETING those last quicktimes from the timeline will solve the problem, but thought I would get a jumpstart on asking about the issue because I have a sinking FEELING that it won’t.

So, here's the problem. Yesterday I was having problems with MS Excel's Format Painter option. I have used this feature many times in the past and have had no problems with up until now. I SELECT the cells that I want to take the format of, click the button, and the it deactivates itself almost immediately. This will happen as many times as I will PUT up with it. I have tried to restart Excel, and even Windows, but that does nothing. I can't think of any reason it would suddenly refuse to work, but hey, it's Microsoft, anything it possible! I wish there was more I could say about this, but it's all I really know. :/ (Of course, I could just format the area to look like the other one, but I feel that defeats the whole point of the tool) Update: After just doing other things in Excel I decided to try using format painter again and it works just fine. I don't know why, didn't do anything but copy/paste and writing in text in cells. So yea, every is fine now it seems. >.> You are welcome.

If you single-click on it, the first applying of it to a cell or range of cells applies the copied format and then cancels any further applying from that just-initiated action. If you select a cell as the source format and then double-click on Format Painter, you can repeatedly apply that format without again clicking on the Format Painter icon. To stop this, hit the Esc key.
