I bought my computer a few weeks ago and I have had this problem since I bought it. I run WINDOWS 7 (64-bit) that came with the computer and Windows Media Player is always the latest version.

The problem is that when I start Windows Media Player it acts like none of my manually installed plug-ins exists. The plug-ins in question are last.fm scrobbler, Windows Live Messenger and Lyrics Plug-in. When I press Tools>Plug-ins it only shows "Bluetooth Headset Plugin" which came with the computer.

If I however install one of the plug-ins. Like Lyrics Plug-in for example, it is already installed but I install it again, then when I press Tools>Plug-ins it shows all of my installed plug-ins in the menu and all of the plug-ins suddenly work PERFECTLY (not just Lyrics Plug-in and Bluetooth Headset Plugin, but Last.fm-Scrobbler and Windows Live Messenger as well). But the next time I boot up Windows, Windows Media Player acts like none of my manually installed plug-ins exist again.

Does anybody KNOW what causes this problem and how to prevent it?I got help from the Microsoft forums instead. It had to do with that when I OPENED Windows Media Player with Launchy I opened the 64-bit version with which the plug-ins weren't compatible with. Good bye.

If I am using FRST and I get something LIKE: R2 RpcSs; C:\Windows\system32\rpcss.dll (Microsoft CORPORATION) [FILE not SIGNED] stating the file is not signed what would I put in the fixlist to have it copy over a valid, signed file in the place of this unsigned one.

I re-installed Vista Home Premium.
 Should I DOWNLOAD and install SP1 and SP2?Of course. You need to install SP1 before SP2, as the Vista SERVICE packs are not CUMULATIVE (that MEANS SP2 does not CONTAIN SP1).

I have Norton Antivirus, Malwarebytes, ccleaner & Spyware Blaster on my Windows 7 Pro desktop computer, but, on my new Lenovo laptop I installed Kaspersky Total Security and even though it says "Total", I don't know if I should have any of the other malware programs that I have on the desktop installed on the laptop? 
Thank you1) Kaspersky is, in my OPINION one of the top av options (I've been using it on all of my systems for many years). I only use KAV, but Total Security is an excellent choice!

2) In addition to Kaspersky you should do a manual scan with MalwareBytes every once in a while (once a month, anyway).

3) It's a good idea to have SpywareBlaster and manually updated it every week or so.

4) ccleaner is not  a malware utility.

5) I also use WinPatrol - but that's a personal choice.

More important than any of the above is "smart computing": Don't visit "questionable" WEBSITES, don't download anything unless you are CERTAIN it is SAFE, ditto opening email attachments, don't let anyone else use your account or the admin account on your computer, etc.Thank you, Allan.  I just didn't know if those other programs were necessary or if they would conflict with Kaspersky.  Generally, I run all 3 every night before I shut down my computer, and ccleaner about once a month.  I am paranoid about viruses and malware.

I'm a member of a support group which gives members certificates of completion for achievements and we needed someone with a computer and printer to create these. I volunteered, so now I need whatever software is suited for this. I have no experience doing anything like this but I can learn. For now I would like to have the templates already designed so I can just enter the information specific to our groups needs and I would like to include an image from a file on my PC. then I can edit / add content with Powerpoint Online after logging into my Microsoft account.

This works fine but I'm having an issue with the printed image not filling out the page completely. Is the WHITE border in the attached image due to my formatting or will my printer just not print all the way to the edge? I can't cut the finished printed page since I need it to be frame-able.

Tell it to print look to the Left side of the print window and select Fit under paper size and handling.

Right. So lyou trim the edge of the certificate with a blade cutter, the kin used in print shops. It is called a paper trimmer. These can be privy. The alternative is to use a undersized paper to force the printing to the edges.

I friend of mine needs to upload several big files (videos around 20 gb each) so I can download and work with them. Now, the issue is that his Internet connection is slow and he can't leave the PC on during night, so we NEED a program that can resume the file. He tried with Google Drive but it restarts from zero. The files are .mpg

Do you know how this can be done? If I have to pay for the space (cloud) no problem.

No, it's not commercial. In fact, there are VHS cassettes (SLP=6 hours)converted to mpg and in total we have around 160gb.

We are in different countries, in fact, in different continents.

I am amazed in 2016 there is not a real option to accomplish this online.

This is not a commendation, more of a question. Some CH members try to show screenshots of their PC problems and the quality is terrible. Here are some things I have thought about. (What do you recommend?)

This might be of help. I use both. Nothing to me stands out as one better than the other, but maybe others who use it for more than just word documents and spreadsheets can add their input on it.

On older computers I use Open Office 3.3 for offline use so no security risks with running out of date version 3.3 from 6 years ago. However computers that get online should always have their Open Office or LibreOffice kept up to date to patch for ISSUES and keep on the latest and greatest.Thank you for your reply.  Since they have a common ancestor, that explains why one may be no more difficult to learn than the other.  I was hoping to find one that was closer to MS Word.  I had tried Word Perfect, however, Microsoft no longer will interface with the Quattro Pro program, so sending a Quattro Pro document to someone with MS Office was useless.  I liked Word Perfect, but that was a definite drawback.  I think that my problem is that many of the terms in the drop down menus would be familiar to someone with publishing experience, but for the rest of us, it is as GOOD as being written in Greek.  Thanks again. Yes, guys, it's me again!  Okay, don't laugh, but I have a Kodak (I know - no LONGER around) Playsport video camera.  I haven't used it in a while and decided to charge it up and video my outside yard decorations.  So, no problem, I did that.  I come back into the house, hook it up to the computer, I no longer have that software anymore.  It must have gotten lost in the transference of old computer to new, even though I did not attempt to do that, I had a computer repair service do it.  I googled it and there is a download that is free, but other sites say that program isn't available any longer.  Do I trust the Arcsoft website for the free download?  Do I try another kind of program, and if so, what?  Or do I just give up and buy a smart phone like normal people?  I have Windows 10, Dell Inspirion, Intel i5-4460, [email protected] 3.20GHz, Ram 8 GB, 64-bit operating system.  I get so frustrated when things aren't simple which makes me glad you guys are here.  You always give me the best advice, even if I don't always understand it and have to ask more stupid questions, and this time I'm not sure I'm going to like the answer, but I don't know what to do.  Can you steer me in the right direction?  Again???

Yes it's safe...keep in mind the free DLoad MAY have time restrictions on it such as 30=90 day trial...

However after you find it works post back here with more info on what file EXTENSIONS the vid/pics have and im sure we can find a free alternative for viewing/saving your stuff

I take LOTS of photos. I upload to my PC from my iPhone when I get to 550 pictures on my phone. I also use VIDEOS, taking lots of DATA. I find it LABORIOUS to cut and paste a FEW highlighted adjacent photos to cut & paste into subject folders. I have maybe 200 subject folders. When I SELECT pictures to cut & paste into folders, the software only lets me select ADJACENT  pictures in the same row.

I have looked on VIRTUAL box forums for the ANSWER. I have a new Dell laptop with W10 64 bit. I followed the instructions for making a bootable usb with Kali Linux installed. I used Windows 32 disk manager to make the usb bootable. After the operation was completed a message box popped up to SAY that the usb was verified. I am trying to install Kali Linux on Virtual Box. When I plug in the usb there is a message pops up stating the disk needs formatted. Did the usb not get made properlyMaybe he USB was not done right. The format must be  NTFS or  FAT32.

The Ubuntu people have a lot of users and they have ery active forums. You could ask them how they run a current version of Ubuntu Linux on a Windows 10.

By the way, some linux usres are using a new feature in a special version of Windows 10. It is a developer verson.

I own a Dell XT3 LAPTOP with WINDOWS 7 and I wanted to configure the tablet buttons on it. When I TRIED however it wouldn't let me and would send this error MESSAGE of "tablet drivers are not installed". So I looked around for the software for drivers which was "APP_WIN_R312259" or the Dell ControlPoint System Manager. The fallowing issue with that is when I ran the installation for the software I thought it lacked it returned with another error of "A newer version of System Manager is already installed". So I went and looked for it in Programs and Features under the Control Panel and other forums said to check the registry but I found nothing on ControlPoint System Manager.

That's where I'm at with this, but if anyone has a solution, to allow me to use the tablet drivers which is real what I'm after, then I am all for trying it.

obviously, since you are using Outlook, it's always used PST or OST files, nature of the beast.
and as with any database FILE, they go pear-shaped.
not often, but enough that MS have provided a free repair tool for it.

what was the error message you were getting when opening Outlook?

you should find the repair tool in c:\program files\microsoft office\office12\ and it's called scanpst.exe
your outlook.pst file should be in c:\users\your profile name\appdata\local\microsoft\outlook

Once you find the SCANPST program, double click to run it.
Browse to the location of the PST to repair.
Click the Options button and select No Log.
Click Start.
It will do 8 phases, most of which will be very slow, depending on the size of your PST file.
If a repair is needed, untick the Make backup of scanned file before repairing (takes too LONG and all you are backing up is the broken one anyway) and click Repair.
 Once complete, open Outlook and see if it has worked.

if you have more than one PST file (like archive.pst for EXAMPLE), they all may need SCANNING.

At work, we have MS Office files such as Excel that are edited by multiple users at different times.  These are not shared files.  The original user is loosing write access when they move from wired LAN to wireless LAN/wifi.  Our IT group is clueless.  This has been going on for MONTHS.  Any ideas?

Scenario
1st user opens Excel file while the laptop is docked and connected to the (wired) LAN.
1st user makes changes to the same file.
1st user makes multple saves to the file.
1st user undocks, keeping the same file open.
1st user walks through multiple Wi-Fi zones.  Laptop lid may or may not be closed.
1st user opens laptop lid in a different Wi-Fi zone and starts working on file again.
1st user saves file multiple times.
2nd user opens the same file from a wired LAN.  No warning is GIVEN that somebody already has the file open.
1st user tries to save the file and receives a warning that the file is locked for editing.  See screen shot for 2 different errors received by the 1st user.
2nd user continues working on the file, saving, and over-writing any changes the 1st user has made.
1st user loses any changes they’ve made since undocking.


[attachment deleted by admin to conserve space]For starters, they should save a local copy then save to the network share. This way their work wouldn't be lost and could be merged later.

A transactional database would put an end to this! This is a good example of how not using a Database can cause problems.

Only other way around this without a database would be to hold the files behind an interface that issues work to people and so no one else can access a file while another has it out. Such interface would send file to user by e-mail, and by e-mail it could be returned to the system. It would work like a library where a book is out and no one can access the book while its out until its returned and a librarian type of program then issues it to the next person who needs it. However productivity problems would arise if 2 or more people need to do something at the same time. Not a problem if they can work on something else until that file that they also need access to returns to be accessed. Biggest problem here is if that file is worked on and not returned then the system would need someone to go in and flag it as returned even though it hasnt been yet such as an IT professional or manager of data management.

Lowest tech solution is a single location for people to look to see who is working on what, but its not fool proof. It would require people to list what they are working on so that no one else opens that file while they are working in it. But this is not good if other people need to use it and dont have anything else to do at the same time in which productivity takes a hit.

Having someone write a database a real database that is transactional is the best solution, where whatever needs to be entered can be entered in a FORM on a browser and then that record is added to the main database. Two people editing a price tag of a product however could still undo what the other did though. Such as one person sets the price to $14.99 and another person after then sets it to $2.99. The last change for the database will be whats reflected. Someone checking on the data however would hopefully find this problem such as say its for a Steak, there should be rules in the database QUERY that looks for values that are outside of a known window of valid prices for products, so that the steak's aren't all of a sudden selling for $2.99 per lb. Making for a customer shopping frenzy to buy shopping carts full of meat at below cost.  File locks are per session, not per user. For example, the same user logged into two different locations can open a shared file, but then that "session" has locked that file- they will be unable to access the file from the second location until the lock is released, Which would either mean waiting for a timeout (which could be up to an hour depending on how things are configured server-side) or the file to actually close.

When a laptop user opens a file via their wired internet CONNECTION when docked, it locks based on that session. So when they disconnect the laptop from the dock, and then move to Wireless, that is a new network session- As far as the server is concerned, That is a completely different system, which is almost certainly why write access is lost to the first user. As far as your system is concerned, some other system on the network- the wired address- locked that file.

Also, the way sharing works on a network is that when a file is opened, server side it might be put in a "queue" to allow write access if write access was originally requested. Since the system that moved from Wired to wireless didn't open the file with the wireless session, it is not put in that "line" and as a result the second actual user that opens the file receives the file lock as soon as the original session times out.Thanks for the reply.  It make sense.  So if I undock/transfer to wifi/start a new session, then immediately save the file I would be then have write access to that new session? 

Would I have to re-save for each wifi zone to guarantee I retain write access?  I'm in a 3 story building and it's about a 3 minute walk from my desk to the garage area on the first floor.  I pass through several overhead wifi routers.

We've created a timed SCHEDULE where each user is allowed access to the file from 3PM to 5PM which works well.  The rest of the day is a free-for-all.I think you would have to close and re-open the file. I don't know how switching wifi routers would effect it, though it may be seen as a different system.I did a test and saving the file immediately after undocking retains my rights even if I change Wi-Fi zones!

I'm having some issues with a CD that I recently ripped, I've placed the song files in my music directory which is located at D:\Music\
The album is Touch by July Talk, it won't SHOW up in the correct Artist in Groove.  It only shows up in Unknown.
The rip was to *.MP3 320kbps so there's nothing unusual about it.  It's not an end of the world problem, but it is aggravating the *censored* out of me.

Any ideas on how to correct this?

It's Windows 10 Pro 64 bit w/Fall Creators Update have you checked the metadata for those ripped songs?
in your d:\music\ folder go to where those songs live, right click one, go to the Details tab, CHECK the Contributing Artist has July Talk in there.I use a program CALLED mp3tag myself when I have issues with MP3 metadata. It's useful because you can mass EDIT files as well. Mark, yes I just checked that and in the details of the song properties it has July Talk listed as the artist.  I tried editing the properties of the song as well from Groove and this is the result

Hi all,

I opened up a folder I don't usually open on my PC and I found TWO files in that folder I don't remember ever downloading. Both are pdf's. Both have a modification date dated before their creation date, and their creation date seems to be before I purchased the US. The files MAY come come from the transfer of files from my older laptop PC, but I'm not sure. Both filenames are strings of numbers, punctuated by underscores, that end in in the acronym or phrase MANAS. Unfortunately both docs are password protected at open. I have no idea what these PASSWORDS could be.

This is really strange. Any IDEAS how I can know more about these files? What do I do?

To be more SPECIFIC, I have downloaded the game Gazillionaire 3 in a virtual box (windows xp). The virtual box can't connect to the internet. How does the game still know that I already downloaded and played 90min? How can I completely remove it to KEEP on playing?

Gazillionaire is a game created by Lava mind back in 1996!We don't assist with by-passing software regulations....Being its an old title it should be PRETTY cheap to buy through ebay or amazon used but legit licensed version etc.

How can I get rid of all the bloatware that comes with my newly purchased laptop. I am a SENIOR citizen , not afraid of TECH. and very capable. I do not want to pay for any software. This is the easiest method, however being doing this I would suggest making a system recovery media set. This way if you remove something important you will have the recovery media on hand to PUT your system back to fresh out of box state when you first got it and start over vs having a computer that is now a paperweight.THank you for the information

I have a "double click" button on my mouse that I use and I would just click it to start a song and that is what produced the song error. On my win 7 machine I dragged it on to my desktop and added files that way. This no longer WORKS any idea how to remedy this?

I have to use a few third party sites for printing documents.  Sometimes I have to choose several documents at once.

I know I can use CTRL and my mouse to choose several different document lines at once.....

but....is there a way to ONLY use my mouse to choose several different line items at once, without having to use the keyboard?

I havent done this before, but seen gaming mice that have extra buttons used for triggering macros for example and number keys so I dont see why CTRL key wouldnt be doable.In Windows Explorer (Vista onwards) you can show checkboxes. You don't need the keyboard to check multiple boxes.

Here is what I have. A text file with a lot of domain names, but lacking the http:// prefix that ought to go in front of each domain. Each line has just one NAME. No white space. File is notepad compatible.

Tricky question this.   You know how you type in your email address and it SAYS wrong, because you had a typo, after a while you accumulate a few wrongly typed addresses and have to select the one correct one.

Is there any way you can DELETE the wrongly typed addresses - it could be for any site which asks for your email address.

I have a MOV file, and in places the sound volume drops and can hardly be heard even when my volume (the speaker icon in the bottom right) is on full. Some years ago I installed on my wife's COMPUTER something which when invoked would outline web page elements in a red BOX which would then allow that particular element to be deleted. Moving the cursor AROUND would cause a red box to automatically enclose whatever element on the page the cursor rested on. You could select any part of the page, text, ads, pictures and delete it before printing. I can't find it on her computer anymore and neither of us remember what it was called, where I got it from or how it was invoked. Can ANYONE help with this? I have two columns of data and I would like to be able to CALCULATE the difference between the two. So I want Column C to show me whether the data in Column A is higher or lower than the data in Column B and by how much.

As it stands, I have applied this formula to Column C: =ABS(A2-B2)

However, this doesn't tell me which cell has the higher number, just the difference between the two. I want it so that if A is 5 and B is 4, then C shows as -1. If, however, A is 5 and B is 6, I want C to show as 1 (or +1 but Excel doesn’t like that!).
 
Is there a way of doing this?

Any help would be much appreciated. As you can probably tell from the way I have worded this, I am not naturally mathematical! And this is part of the reason I can’t find the answer: I don’t know the terms for what I want to do.

I've just noticed that someone installed the Windows 10 Pro, boot files on a separate Harddrive. I want to take this drive out and have my windows boot files on the same drive as the rest of the windows files which is on C: drive. The boot files are currently on the i: drive and I don't want them there, so how do I get them onto the C: drive with the rest of windows? Please can someone give me an easy solution to this problem. Its a nightmare in moving windows from one drive to another without loss of data when you have data spanned between multiple drives. Here are the steps I'd do if reinstall of Windows is not an option.

Get a 3rd Internal hard drive ( assuming this is a desktop computer that can support 3 hard drives connected ). Use the 3rd drive and copy an image of the Windows installation drive and all of its partitions to that 3rd drive and hopefully just a single partition on the other drive containing your data so you end up with 4 partitions. The 3 that Windows 10 requires + the 4th with your data from that other drive, so your merging 2 drives drives 1 and 2 into drive 3. Windows 10 will have hidden partitions that need to come over. One of the hidden ones is 100MB, the other will be a recovery partition and varies in size.

If the other drive is broken up into multiples of partitions you have a great big mess on your hands and should just backup all important data to an external or cloud storage and then perform a clean install. Then bring your data back to a clean build.

Also if it works, you could always just use it as it is. I had a SSD that I started running out of space on and I ended up spanning to an HDD so that everything looked like it was at C: but symbolic links were used to span to another drive. It creates a mess if I ever wanted to back up multiple drives, but I backup my data so I will just perform a clean install next time and to a larger drive than a 90GB SSD.

Looking at what you have... you dont have enough free space to do anything. Cant even shrink the I: volume to squeeze C: onto the same drive as I: and how I: became the drive for a Windows install...... How did all of this start?

I suggest a clean build.

The way this is set up is as if at some point you or the prior owner of this computer might have run out of space and then started shuffling partitions around and now its scattered among 2 drives. Windows will likely not like you messing around with moving C: to a new C: partition and in order to move C: to new C: location old C: would need to be renamed like X: and then new partition on the 250GB drive after shrinking I: would be C: . To fix this you might need to use a Live Linux Distro after shrinking I: to allow for contents of C: to get moved to available area under a new partition as for Windows will not like contents of C: switching to X: and Linux doesnt care like Windows does. Then when done Windows boots and sees C: as it always has seen C: but on the 250GB HDD however that drive might be over 90% full in which performance takes a dive. But once everything important is on the single drive, install a new larger drive and macrium reflect image the 250GB drive to like a 1TB or larger drive and have the free space you need and better performance of a drive that isnt so full.

The easiest way out of this is to backup your data and wipe the drives and start clean with a single drive in the system and install Windows to that drive alone. Then add the other 120GB drive if you want and dont shuffle partitions around.

If it were me, Id seriously just back up your data to an external or cloud storage and  wipe the drives clean and start fresh. If its a matter of not having the Windows 10 installation media, you can download it for free from Microsoft and then use your key against it and be good to go. Then copy back to the system important data that you need on it from external or cloud.

An OS can boot from any standard drive in the computer, provided certain things have been done that way they have to be done.
It is not clear why the OP does not like the way it works.

Nevertheless, Windows does not need Linux to boot for another drive.

Geek-9pm - I want to install a bigger HDD into this computer and the only way I can do this is by taken out the I: drive. There is only room for two drives as the tower is designed this way, it's only a small tower. The C: drive is a SSD and the i: drive is a HDD and I would like windows on the SSD and a bigger capacity HDD. I know the boot files are on the i: drive because when I remove it and start the PC, I get a message on screen telling me there is no boot etc. I know the rest of my windows files are on the C: drive, because when I reinstall the i: drive to get windows to boot again, I can then see all the windows files on the C: drive. Dave This is a computer I purchased from someone else and I can't contact them because they were moving at the time of selling. The problem is that it says it's Windows 10 Pro, but I do not have a key for it. I'm not sure if they updated from Windows 7 to windows 10 pro and am worried I might not be able to get Windows installed again without having to buy Windows 10. I could get windows 10 Pro disc and hope it just installs on to this PC, but is there a chance it won't? Yes, your explanation of what you're trying to do does make sense then it makes it easier to give a meaningful reply to you.
I understand you have a computer you bought from someone else and it already has Windows 10 on it and you do not know what the key is for reinstallation.
First point. Microsoft is getting away from the use of the key as being the exclusive way to activate and installation of Windows 10. In some cases uses have been able to activate Windows 10 without actually having a product key because of a number of other circumstances. One such situation was when an update was done from Windows 7 to Windows 10. In that case a new product key was never issued. Microsoft identified the original Windows 7 installation as being valid and then activated the Windows 10 installation and assigned a code to it, but this code is not really called a product key.
For more information you would have to talk to somebody at Microsoft support, I will admit I don't clearly understand how this works.
Second point. Microsoft tends to lock Windows 10 into a specific computer based on its hardware footprint, or I should say fingerprint. In other words, the motherboard, the video card and the hard drive and some other details are used to identify a specific computer. Possibly there is something like a serial number inside the firmware. Or maybe they're using a serial number that comes from the CPU. As to whether not they actually use a serial number from the CPU, I cannot say. Someplace it was denied that's CPU serial number whenever be used for anything.
Now about using a solid-state drive. Windows can and does install onto a solid-state drive. However, I have no experience with this and do not have any worthwhile suggestions.
From my experience I am quite sure you can clone Windows 10 and the rest of your disk drive onto a new disk drive. That is not an issue. I have done this and it seems that Windows 10 tolerates the idea of being cloned to another hard drive as long as you are still using the same computer. One thing you can do, is to get the spare hard drive, even a used one, or even borrow one from a friend. Try some experiments of making a clone of your operating system onto a spare hard drive. In fact, it's not even necessary to clone the entire drive. If the operating system is on a partition and the rest of the drive is partitioned up into separate pieces, you should be able to just clone the partition that has the operating system and it should work. Of course, there are some things it might not work. On newer computers you're SUPPOSED to be using the new method of booting from firmware and not use the old MBR standard. This adds to measure of difficulty, because much of the article you might read about disk cloning and transferring operating systems has to do with the older systems that use the MBR. I'm not sure what results you might have if you have a system that insists on using the new form of disk partitioning that has been in EFFECT for a few years.
Now here's another thing you might want to check into. It may be that your version of Windows qualifies for USB boot support. What this means is that you can get a high-quality USB drive and install a complete Windows 10 operating system onto the USB drive and actually boot from it. That can be used in place of using an installation DVD to do adjustments and repairs on your system. There are some things you would want to do from the install DVD, but you can do it justice well from having the USB drive that contains a bootable Windows 10 system.
When trying to create a bootable hard drive sometimes things go wrong. Windows may not be able to set the partition you've chosen to be bootable. In that case, Windows 10 will look for another partition that could be made bootable and will install some of the hidden files on that partition.
Now what I just said should be a warning to you that you cannot tell just by looking at files whether not a partition is bootable. It might have all the files you think should be there, even some hidden files, but is still might not be bootable. If it is not bootable, you have to have it installation DVD or a bootable USB Windows 10 installation to repair the system that will not boot.
That is about as much as I know about the subject. Two tools that will be useful to you are the ease:
first is to have some third-party program that does a good job of resizing partitions, creating new partitions and setting partitions to be either primary or logical partitions. Also, a good partition MANAGER can also set the partition as active and also can identify or set of drive as being compatible with Windows. This usually is only needed if somebody is taken of drive and used it on a Jan UNIX system. So that point should not apply to you. Nevertheless, it is something to be aware of that there is a special mark that has to be put on a hard drive to indicate that it is compatible with Microsoft's definition of a disk operating system.
Another tool you need is a good program for making both clones and backups of any partition or even all of your desk.

admittedly 15 songs is a pretty dismal limit, but try only putting 15 songs in one folder and 15 into another, put the player in shuffle MODE and see if it reads all songs that way.

I have a feeling that I recall reading something about XP only supporting up to SSE2 (but could easily have that wrong) but it'll be worth digging deeper.
Curious if unused copies of XP exist anymore for use on "NEW" PC LICENSING wise. But Mark brought up a good point on driver support for newer hardware might not be there for sound, video, and NETWORK adapter etc.In a situation like this (needing to run older applications) it's almost always a better option to run a modern version of Windows on the bare machine and use that for most stuff and then run a virtual machine for XP and run the legacy applications inside that.  That way you can still take advantage of the modern hardware support and the security improvements in a modern OS and only use XP for the stuff that absolutely requires it.That being said... Virtual ENVIRONMENT is good for most NON graphically intensive applications. So you wont want to play video games or movies through it, but other than that everything else usually runs fine virtual.

 It would be nice if there was a virtual environment that worked better for games. I have an older Pentium 4 running XP for playing some older games that freak out with newer Windows or newer hardware.

Some games I have found some work arounds to get them to play on newer hardware such as:

UT99 - I have to set core affinity to run this game on a single core on multicore CPUs otherwise I get surge framing and lag.

Diablo - The game looks like an acid trip on newer Windows 7 with newer hardware and requires a trick with the display to get it to look normal.

Carmageddon - This game has the same acid trip problem on newer Windows 7 that Diablo suffers and requires the same display trick to get it to look normal.

*Note: The display trick to get rid of acid tip graphics is this if anyone runs into it with older games on 7. Not sure if this will also fix it for 8 and newer, havent tested on 8 or newer:

I work WITHIN a company that uses this software. I'm trying to learn as much as I can so I can learn how to export the data, so it can be used in a spreadsheet or IMPORTED into a database with minimal VB CODING.

Are there handbooks I can get access to?
Are there discussion boards that PRIMARILY FOCUS on this software?

My laptops getting old and so are my kid's computers (Most of them are out of the house)

I’ve decided to build this pc that sits in the basement and I don't have to tend to it very often.
I want to set this pc up so that my kids or myself can log into at any time. “I'll just call it an External computer”

The way I would like it to operate is:

We are still able to login to our old laptops but instead of using our old laptops memory, processes and hard drives we're about to use the newer higher powered external computer.

Log in to it somehow like VPN, Remote Desktop, Create a website for log in virtual pc. I'm NEVER really had much luck with using a virtual pc or desktop, but that was a number of years back.

I've decided to build a pc with the parts below. I started out just looking to add an external hard drive but ended up trying some and I really need some input and guidance.

by the looks of it, budget is not a concern. 

as to software, Windows and Office are licensed to the PC not to a user.
so one copy of Win10 and one of Office, and all users will be happy.

as to what you are missing, I'd say a Solid State Drive.  Not sure why you have a 2TB and a 5TB mechanical drive for?

Sounds like I got the basic software correct

the number of profiles including myself that will be at the home base, I have 4 others kids two in the same state as me and two 1000 miles away.  Keep coming with the software ideas. This is a big part and I can use everyone's ideas.

SSD, nice caught. I was assuming that would just be part of the hard drive. I'll look at getting the mobo with a m.2 SATA port and make sure the SSD that goes straight into it.

I bought the extra video card as backup. still, completely in the air with how this whole project is going to go, I sided with adding an updated video card. Hopefully, now that I decided to reach out for advice from more seasoned Tec's I can make this project work.
So, for now, we're going to set the other video card off on the side and work with the on-board video

The second network adapter was an upgrade from the one on the motherboard. but if you don't think it's going to add much to what we'll be needing we can set that off to the said for now also

Logging 5 Laptops into One PC
One Ring to Rule Them Alleach user of the PC would have their own logon account (profile) and all their stuff is kept in their C:\Users\ folder.
yep, you can use VPN or Remote Desktop(RDP) or whatever, from the current laptops to access this new rig, but they would only benefit in using it's storage - not memory or grunt.

but if this connection method was going to be the mainstream maybe instead of Win10, you may want to investigate Win Server.
but.... (more ideas)... if this new rig, as far as the other PC's are concerned, will only be used as a central storage device, why not get a NAS(Network Attached Storage) box.You are very explicit about the hardware.
If it is where you can not see it, Why does it matter what it has in it?
If budget s not a major concern, then spend some money on some company and can help you get a system that meets your needs.
Just maybe As us  or Gigabyte already have a deportment that does costume designs for people with special needs.
Qustion:
Do you need or want high-speed Internet? Do you have a fiber optic link where you olive?
Do you have a 24 /7 UPS?
If you system is over powered, might  you consider selling part of the bandwidth and storage to others who  need a VPN?
You would need it to be running a Server version, or only allow one laptop to use the system at a time, in ORDER to prevent violation of the EULA. Consumer (Home and Pro) editions of Windows are only licensed for One user to use at a time. Office 365 is probably similar in some respect but being cloud-based I'm not sure how that works.

KMSpico is a Trojan horse of some kind, at least as far as I know. I could never get it to work: all it would do would play ODD music and then do nothing. Just uninstall it, it's garbage, and buy yourself a legitimate copy of Windows.It's not a Trojan...it's an app that CRACKS Windows that carries a Trojan...

Please see attached screenshot of excel file.  Cells C8:G11 are formatted as date mm/dd/yy
row 6 shows the number of forecasted days to end date. 

here is the goal - I WANT to find the rightmost non-blank value in each row, then add the number of days in row 6 from the same column, and drop the result in column G of that row.

So,  cell g8 should say 10/17/17 because it adds the value of 6 (from c6) to the date in c8
cell g9 should say 10/18/17 because it adds the value of 3 (from d6) to the date in d9
cell g10 should say 10/23/17 because it adds the value 2 (from f6) to the date in e10

and, oh yeah, ONE more thing....  If I add a value to the right of an existing date, I want the forecasted end date to recalculate - so, given the sample data, if I add 10/14/17 to cell d8, I want cell g8 to now reflect 10/14/17 plus 3 (from cell d6) -- and deposit 10/17/17 in cell g8.

I got some important FILES in a USB flash drive.
Recently the USB flash drive did not work properly and some files couldn't be opened.
My friends helped me retrieve some of the EXCEL files from the defective USB flash drive, but
most of the data stored in the EXCEL files had been lost.
I am using MS EXCEL 2002, and have tried using the EXCEL REPAIR function to recover the lost data,
but of no luck.
I need your help, please recommend me some good and FREE software to save my EXCEL files.

Recovery programs can only recover what is there, but they can't fixed corrupted data. Do you know what program/method your friend used to recover the files with?

Different programs have different abilities when it comes to recovering data. Try Truenorth's suggestions and see if one of them works.

I know it's a bit late for this advice, but never store the only copy of an important file on a flash drive. Always keep another copy somewhere, as flash drives are not reliable and prone to data loss, especially when they're unplugged or the power goes out while they're in use.
