ok,1st i'm using windows 98,the processor speed could be around 1.0 Ghz - 1.5Ghz,dont remember sorry,128mb ram.20GB hard disk that being divided by partition magic into C & D.

THe problem:
i used ares (p2p) downloading many movie in to D, all of the movie don't have any problem even a scratch!...it works fine 100% until...
i download a movie and when i play the DOWNLOADED movie it can play but suddenly crash during some part..damaging almost 80% of the total run time.so i though it's just from the movie file,but now all of the next movie that i downloaded have the same problem,i even formated the hard disk (C) only because in the D are image file of the norton ghost,MP3's,and some of my document.after i format the computer & download again, guess what?same OLD problem!
i also try playing the data on 2 OTHERS computers,but no changes.
in my opinion,the data that provided by the p2p was clean,but it just broke & scratch when going into my D.......any comment?tq & sorry 4 the bad english.. VIDEO is one of the most demanding operations on a computer...i'm afraid your results will be the same no matter what quality the DLoads are with 128M of RAM...`u said could be from the 128mb RAM?then why b4 this all of the file very good?i almost download more than 100 movies and the prob just come.

I bought my son a new game and when I tried to load it, and error came up saying something about needing a graphics card that supported shader 2.0. How do i know what kind of graphics card I have? Can I download whatever I need to get this game to run?

I have Windows XP, if that makes a difference, but have no idea how to tell how much memory I have free.

You can find out what graphics card you have by going to Start >> Run >> type 'dxdiag' and press Enter.

Lets talk about password length in different programs. I believe data types in programming is what limits the length and allowable characters. Why on some forums the limit is 15, while on others is 21 or SOMETHING? Why not just make the max 32 or 64?

I KNOW it's not safe to make a super secure password because with most applications it'll be too long or contain invalid characters. On forums or windows login, or banking accounts, what amount of characters can you use? I know you can use @*&@#$ stuff like that, but can you use alt codes like ALT+255 (which doesn't print anything) and ALT+0222 (Þ).

I've been reading up on wiki about encoding, but it's complicated. Unicodes 500 diff formats, and all the ISO standards.

Why is spacebar not the same as ALT+255? It's not, right?

It either COMES out when I start up my computer or when I open certain programs. They told me it has something to do with Norton and that I should reinstall it to fix it and I did and I'm still getting it and it's driving me crazy.

sadly I've tried that and I'm still getting that little box.... Problems caused by Norton just get worse. Here is a post by a techie who will not work on a system WITHOUT first removing Norton.

You can download Symantec's Norton removal tool from this site.

If you can get rid of Norton I suggest you INSTALL the free versions of AVG for anti-virus and ZONE Alarm or Comodo for a firewall. Note - only one version each of anti-virus and firewall should be installed.

Okay well i seriously can't HANDLE this anymore, my Windows Movie Maker has been utterly broken since X-mas Eve last year (when it suddenly broke down for no REASON) and now i REALLY want it to work again, because it used to be my favourite hobby to make fan videos.

Basically, i can import vids/songs/pics, etc, and i can MAKE the video fine, but once i ask to save it to my computer (as in Windows Media) it NEVER works. I've tried e-mailling it, same message, saving it to disc, same message, i even tried uploading it online and it came up with the same message again.


EVERYTIME it says the exact same message:

"Windows Movie Maker cannot save the movie to the specified location. Verify that the original source files used in your movie are still available, that the saving location is still available, and that there is enough free disk space available, then try again."


Now the original source files are FINE, because i've tried numerous different files and movies and the video's still not worked. The saving location is also fine, as i've tried my desktop, folders, i even made NEW folders just to save the videos in, but still nothing. And there is certainly enough free disk space, as i deleted ALOT of stuff just to save one video, and it still didn't work.



So, i figured i'd re-install windows movie maker, following the instructions from this website:

So i type in the COMMAND, find the file, and put in the required disc, and NOTHING shows up on the disc, as if there's nothing there. I tried both discs (out of the two) and neither of them worked.



So i gave up that option. And i figure my last resort is to wipe my entire system, and start over again. But i really don't wanna do that, 'cause i've got files i've made on WMM that i've just not saved to Media PLAYER format- know what i mean?



So yeah, ANY help you guys could give me would be a bloody God-send, seriously!

I just got a brand new Dell Insirpon 1520 laptap (2 GB of memory, Intel Core 2 Duo Processor, 80 GB HARDRIVE) and when I try to open up links that are posted on the internet (i.e. my teachers post their lecture notes online in WORD format for us to download), it opens up in Notepad, not Word and is jiberish. Before I had put Microsoft Office on the computer, I was using Notepad to take notes and when I tried to download a lecture and it asks if you want to save or open the document, I think I changed the format that it would open in. PROBLEM is I can't FIGURE out how to switch it back to Word. The links that are posted in Powerpoint or any other format work fine, just Word is the problem. I hope this makes some sense! Thanks!

1. My Windows Media Player, whenever I play a video or something, then move over to something LIKE Internet Explorer, then back to Windows Media Player, it's appear upside-down every time. Sure, if I click on it, it'll come back in a while. But I don't like it. And then there are some times well if I continue to watch a video for a while, it'll shrink to being smaller then the size and moved over to the left a little. Only thing I've done to fix this is to reopen the video file.

2. Its like Windows Movie Maker has a limit to how many clips you can set on it. Because everytime I "add on a clip", it closes by itself. I add like 23 video clips, TWO sound files, and a title on it. And the next clip I put on, it closes by itself.

Computer specs:

Virus free (Double checked with Avast! And Vundofix)

I have found WMM and most video editing software to be very resource hungry. On my old PC which was Windows XP, 2Ghz Celeron and 512Mb of RAM it was impossible to run WMM properly so went with ULEAD...it worked much better but still could not produce much more than 5min clips at a time.

I have a new beaut Dell system but havent tried video editing yet.

Is it possible to have your PC output two separate audio channels?

For example, have one audio jack play the sound from windows media player, while another plays the sound from Winamp. so that i could have two separate songs playing SIMULTANEOUSLY from two separate sets of speakers.

I am running Windows XP, my mother board has 6 audio jacks, no sound card, I use Realtek audio codecs.




You can have two songs playing simultaneously, and you can have 2 sets of speakers PLUGGED to a single pc...but i'm not sure if you can direct audio in the manner which you've requested. I've never done it before.

Just out of curiosity...what do you want it for?actually, I want to use my computer as a jukebox to play songs around my house. But, at the same time, I still want to be ABLE to watch videos and surf the internet without everyone in the house having the music interrupted by crazy web game audio.

My computer has 6 audio out jacks which you can program using Realtek to perform any of the various audio channels (SUB, front, rear, mic, etc...) so it just seams natural that I could use those to play separate audio out sound.

Anyway, I recently heard of this device that you can use to mix audio, sort of like a DJ. It has a separate audio out port that plays a preview (something like 1 min ahead) of what will come out of the other audio jack. That WAY you can make sure that what you are mixing sounds decent before everyone else hears it. That is what gave me the idea.ah....well. all i can say is..i can't help you.

I use a LAPTOP with an NVIDA Geforce Go 7600 and the original driver on an WinXP SP2.
When I use the external display OUTPUT CABLE, my CRT display flickers, but my TFT work properly. I now that the CRT display supports 1280x768px with 60Hz, but when I connect it with the Laptop it even flickers when I use 800x600 60Hz and 16 bit colour depth.

Do anyone know what I have to change or what I can try?

I downloaded the DirectX 9.0 setup exe from the Microsoft WEBSITE. Whenever I TRY to load it, the license agreement comes up and I accept that, but as soon as the "Initializing" stage appears, there is an error that tells me to check the error logs. This is for DirectX 9.

I have Vista with a NVIDIA GeForce 8400M GS. Any other details needed?Why would you want to install DX9? Vista have DX9 and DX10 built in. (Yes it apparently have both because DX10 isn't backwards compatible with earlier versions of DX).I uninstalled Vista and reinstalled it, which started the problem. You know microsoft excel can do math calculations. adding, multiplying, dividing and subtracting.

Try this calculation if you have excel 2007
850*77.1. See what you get.

Then do the exact same calculation using a calculator, or even the calculator that COMES with WINDOWS!

It seems that microsoft has forgotten how to multiply! (or maybe its coding works screwed up)

This is a by now well known bug in Excel 2007.

I'm guessing what happened here is that there's an off-by-1 error in a comparison somewhere (i.e. ">= 65535" instead of "> 65535"), and the 32-bit quotient/remainder print routine kicks in. Since the number is already smaller than 100000, it PROBABLY hits a fall-thru case where the quotient is assumed to be 1, and there's no remainder, hence it is printing 100000.

I cannot get my game 'Need for Speed' to run and files containing the extension .wmv working at the same time. Meaning - when I want to view my .wmv files I have to to into the display/settings/advanced/troubleshoot and click the hardware acceleration arrow to none and this will work but my game won't PLAY (in the display under the directx files it takes the graphics card memory to none). If I go back into the display/settings/advanced/troubleshoot and set the hardware acceleration arrow to full my game will play but I cannot view my .wmv files (in the display under the directx files the graphics card memory goes back to 128mb). You shouldn't have to set your hardware acceleration level to none in order to view .VMW files.
What version of windows are you using?
What Media player are you using?
What happens if you try to play a .wmv file with hardware acceleration set on full?
Have you tried updating the drivers for your graphics card?
You need a pretty fair amount of horsepower to play a game and view a movie at the same time...
Can we get some system specs ? ?I am running XP home and am using I think Media Player 9. If the hardware is set on full the .wmv clips have no pictures but has sound and my need for speed game will work. Haven't tried updating drivers for graphics CARDS. It is all trial and error.

I'm having a situation where I can not USE my cursor to point in any section of the word document. The only thing that works are the arrow KEYS. Also when I go to open a document...well I double click...word opens but no document...I have to go to the file menu...open or click the SHORTCUT find document and then click open...Any suggestions on how to fix this...I have checked all FORMAT options...maybe I'm overlooking something...please advise...

my question is I have a 1gb jump drive I WANT to transfer files regually to and from my computer with windows XP SP2 to my wifes computer with Vista. I had been using Ad-Aware 2007 without any problems. But now when I try to update it comes up with a box saying "Cannot connect to Web Update server. Server is busy."
Also when TRYING a scan it has another box that comes up saying "Scanner error: 501 has occurred Description: Can't start Smart Scan, Scanner is busy".
No problem with any other program updating or running scan. No changes recently to PC software except updates of security programs.
Any suggestions please?
I should add that I have tried uninstalling and reinstalling the program. Also posted this on Lavasoft forum without any replies.

I want to PROTECT a Word Document from any changes being saved, but want to allow it to be edited.

For example, when using EXCEL as Read Only, you can edit it, but if you tried to save changes you wouldn't be allowed to.

I have tried setting a Word Doc as read only, but it will not allow editing while open.

I want a set of standard documents for WORK that can be amended to include customer details etc, but cannot be saved once printed.

I HOPE this makes sense!In work we work of precedents which is a set letter then we ADD the changes we desire.....

Ok I am currently running windows vista ultimate and have been experiencing some problems when playing certain video and audio files where the sound is muted and muffled heavily. I have asked others and they recommend reinstalling windows media player. However I cannot find the media player in either the programs installed list or the upgrades list. Thus I am unable to REMOVE the player, it does, however, function normally on other files and does exist on the SYSTEM, it just seems not to notice it.

I am using Windows XP Service Pack 2.

I have being using AVG Free Edition 7.5 and all of a sudden, it commits suicide.
It stops working. First, my e-mail scanner breaks. I ignored the error and told AVG to SHUT UP AND WORK!!!

Sorry about the ALL CAPS.

So now I update it. Finds a priority update and, you know, it dies once more.
Smiling at it , I just locate the setup.exe file for AVG, and, sigh, I need an installation PACKAGE.

I don't want to go to the trouble to watch the 18 MB file crawl through my Internet connection - I don't dare.

I'll be glad when this s*** stops so I can sit back and relax when using my computer.

Is there ANOTHER solution for this problem?

Do I need to bite the bullet (ouch) and download AVG again, just to keep this junk box working?

This sounds like there are other issues...
Run disk clean and defrag.
Then run chkdsk /r as well.

Report back with the results.

my PROBLEM is that i try to back up a folder into a FLASH drive from my computer and set a schedule for daily backup but the computer would ask me to provide a password which if i just click ok, it will accept it by telling me that I HAVE AGREED TO USE A BLANK PASSWORD but if i CHECK the schedule task, it will tell me at thtimeitought to backup that THE BACKUP DID NOT WORK BECAUSE I DIDNT SUPPLY A PASSWORD.

I downloaded this player and it seems to be useless. There is no sound either with CDs or DVDs. Yet DVDs play perfectly well with with InterVideo DVD player as do videos. System uses Windows XP with Service pack 2. supposedly Microsoft's greatest invention since SLICED BREAD but it seems to me this is yet another typical Microsoft cockup full of bugs. Does anyone know of any cures? Failing that any recommendations for other players? But still I've read about lots of people who have problems with Windows Media Player higher than version 7. So what gives? I stick to my point that basically Microsoft have put out an inadquately designed product which is full of bugs and doesn't work OR there are yet more bugs in Windows XP which doesn't let it work.

I play a Java based game called RuneScape, and I listen to music while playing. I usually keep Windows MEDIA Player 9 minimized.

When ever a song ends, and it's switching to the next song, it will lag RuneScape and Windows Media Player. My RuneScape character freezes on screen while the first 10 seconds of the song I'm listening to plays. Then my character unfreezes, and I hear the first 10 seconds of the song again.

It just started happening on my PC. I've had this problem before on another computer, but I wasn't playing RuneScape.whats you computer spec?

Set up a BASIC spreadsheet with the =IF fomula on several lines. The problem is that as i enter numbers all the cells are recalculated. I know I can do it manually through options or shut it off entirely. I want to know how to set this up so once it calculates a CELL it doesnt change when you enter numbers in other cells. Could you be a LITTLE more clear? I didn't quite understand what you were saying. Or maybe give an example or something....The question doesn't make much sense. Obviously, if you use IF statements in cells and those IF statements refer to other cells and you change the contents of those other cells, then the content DISPLAYED in the cell(s) with the IF STATEMENT is going to change.

If you don't want this to happen, you need to answer a basic question. Why are you using IF statements?

Hello a friend left his laptop in with me there, and it has quite an annoying problem every time it starts it does not even try and load the bios it just goes straight to a screen that says press f2 to enter set up but when i hit f2 nothing happens...OWH,got this problem before.think acer suck,maybe

No OS installed, is what it sounds like, if it doesn't go ANYWHERE past the splash/startup screen.

If you can't access the BIOS by hitting f2, I would try hooking up an external keyboard to it, either by USB or PS/2 (if applicable - some older laptops and even some newer ones have either an EXTRA PS/2 Mouse and/or Keyboard port.Thanks Northwood but I already tried this..... I found a lot of information on the Internet about how to fix the PROBLEM when you try to run Access or Publisher and get the ERROR message about the "required registry information is MISSING...". Unfortunately none of it worked. However, it got me on the right track to find and fix the problem myself.
On my computer Excel and Word both worked fine, but Access and Publisher would quit soon after I started trying to do something in them, but first it gave me that error message about the registry. I looked in the Help menu - "About This Program" section where it SHOWS the registration code. Word and Excel were the same But Access and Publisher had a different code - although theirs were identical. I wrote down the codes from Word and from Access then started the "REGEDT32" program. I did a FIND of the code from Access. When it found it I selected rename from the edit menu and added the word Old to change Product-Key to OldProduct-Key and then from the edit menu I selected add a new key and added Product-Key (make sure to use the same name as they have as I am writing this from memory and may not be 100% on the key name - but you will know it when you see it, and put in the key code from Word. Then just exit the Registry. After I did that everything worked GREAT. Thanks for the tip. I'm sure other users who are searching for how to resolve this issue will find this useful.

So, there's this freeware program called Hibit. Annoying as *censored*. It's suppsed to hide files and stuff. But now i want to uninstall it, and the uninstall file is buggy, and won't uninstall. Gives me some error message.
It hides thing by moving them to a restricted folder, that the process blocks. (I BELIVE)
The process cannot be shutdown by taskmanager. Help please. I dunno how to get this thing off, preferably without ruining that it has already hidden.

My bosses swap Outlook 2003 calendar events with each other (they do not use Exchange, SINCE that has CAUSED e-mails to be deleted). On ONE COMPUTER, Outlook Calendar invitations that had previously been accepted have started to disappear seemingly at random (not necessarily when updated).

They leave no trace in Outlook, though the sender of the invitation can see that he accepted at first. Both use Outlook 2003 and his inbox aggregates e-mail from several addresses. He is not moving or deleting the messages.

Any suggestions on what to check for would be helpful -- it's a new job, I go in tomorrow morning to investigate, and need to impress the boss. Thanks!

A Keylogger is a software program or hardware device that is used to monitor and log each of the keys a user types into a computer keyboard. I believe the fact that you don't see HTML as an option for Paste Special indicates Excel or your Windows system is not recognizing the copied text as HTML/hyperlink. Here's what I mean. I use Outlook Express. I have it set to recognize HTML email. If I copy from it directly to Excel, Paste Special gives me three options: HTML, Unicode, and Text. But, if I copy the text to Notepad, which removes all formatting, and then copy and paste from Notepad, Excel only shows Unicode and Text. Excel has already recognized that HTML isn't needed as a choice because what I'm copying is not HTML (which APPLIES to hypertext, i.e., hyperlinks). See what I mean?

I've got an Outlook account that has 185 email addresses (i know that's a lot) and i've SET up 2 other PC's at other locations to be able to read my email.
I've managed to find a way to copy the Outlook registry key from the main PC to the 2 others to save me having to set up and configure all the accounts again but i've hit a problem.
When i want to send a new email and i click on the accounts tab to select which account i want it sent from it only shows about 2 thirds of the list on ONE of the PC's.
The 2 PC's that show ok are running Outlook 2003 and Outlook 2007 so i don't think it's a version issue.
All of the accounts are actually there but they just won't show.
Is there any kind of registry setting that BLOCKS this or can anyone point me in the RIGHT direction.
I've tried to find any significant differences between the 3 PC's but can't see anything obvious.

Any help would be great.

on my COMPUTER I just reinstalled fire fox then it worked, but on this computer it didn't.

Hi, It's me again. Finally GOT myself a new pc. I am using firefox and my email program is outlook express 6.
The problem is, when i CLICK on a link in my email, nothing happens. How can I get a page to open up in firefox by clicking on a link in my emails?Hi.

http://windowsxp.mvps.org/defaultbrowser.htmWhen you start Firefox it should ask you if you want it to be your default browser. Simply answer yes. If you've already said no and left the checkbox checked that says don't ask again then you have to do this.

1- Click on tools in the tool BAR at the top.
2- Click on options in the DROP down menu.
3- At the bottom there should be a section called System Defaults. There is a button in there called "Check Now", click on that.

Make sure it is your default browser.Thanks both, problem solved! Clicking on links in emails is a dangerous practice, better to copy & paste the link straight into your browser.
