Solve : Bought used PC with Win XP Pro & MS Office 2007...?

Answer»

Bought used PC with Win XP Pro & MS Office 2007. It's an HP 5150 SFF 1.8GHz.

I checked out the PC before I bought it and all looked good, although it wasn't online.
I get it HOME and it is password PROTECTED, amazingly the person I bought it from has never returned my calls. I was able to change password and actually get it to boot up ok. I noticed that the PC and all the software is registered to some online school.
I have no restore disk or anything but do have the COA on the box for XP Pro.
My questions:
1.) If I go online with this PC, am I going to be able to UPDATE the OS and software without any worries of it being registered to this school?

2.) Is there a way to get rid of ALL the FILES that pertain to the school without messing up the OS? There seem to be a lot of "text files with a little gear?" that make mention of the school in the main directory.

I guess I'm afraid if I go online that I may be risking legal trouble if this thing turns out to be stolen or something. I really don't think it was, as I bought from, what seemed to be a nice older couple that bought a new laptop and said they didn't use this any more.

Any help, suggestions or ideas would be greatly appreciated!!! I bought this for my kids birthday and I'm half afraid to use it!!Welcome to the CH forums.

I wonder why the calls were never returned. If you're really concerned you could try to get in touch with the online school.

Check that the COA attached to the box is the same as the one installed.

To answer your questions 1.) You should be safe unless the school has installed software which will report home. 2.) All the files could be deleted without affecting the OS.

At some stage you will need an Operating System cd to reinstall/repair or otherwise maintain the operating system.

Good luck.

The school in question, sounds like they did not secure their computers very well. I was in the IT department of my school district for a semester.
As there are things from the school on there, it may be stolen. My school district FDISKed to full size of hard drive, formatted, and wiped the hard drive before donating.
If it was not stolen, the school should have its discharge on record.
If you don't mind the school's programs, or a simple delete will set them straight, ignore the remainder of reply.
There may be a program called DeepFreeze. It will not allow you to change anything other than the BIOS when it active. An icon of a computer frozen over without a blinking red CIRCLE slash on it on the system tray will indicate an active DeepFreeze. You should not have rights to view programs and other files from that school. BIOS should be password protected. The school may give any passwords and the names of files to undo anything they did.
If they don't share that info, for good reason; a reformat, reinstall, and/or BIOS reset may be in your future. Start with the BIOS reset and tell it to start from Floppy, should be default. To reset BIOS close a jumper labeled CLR and/or reseat the lithium button cell. Secure a Windows boot disk and tell it to start with command prompt or something like that, option 3. Tell it format C:. Reinstall windows.

Solve : ghost32 cannot run without admin right?

Answer»

my computer got 2 accounts (admin and user)
the admin restrict user account to install any software.
but I have a ghost32 software always cannot run under user account althought admin already given the full contro right for this software.
anybody know why this happend, only this ghost32 software.
thanks.are you referring on how to use norton ghost? No need to install them, just use ms dos.Ghost needs full access to SYSTEM files to do what it does.
This will not happen on a User account.
Why would you want to run it this way anyways ? ?ok, ghost32 doesn't need installation
i use this utility for CLONE/image my USB storage device, part of my job
but recently my company do something on my notebook, they doesn't allow us to do any installation.
My problem now is, althought the admin OPEN the full control for me on this ghost32 utility, but i STILL cannot run it. (right click>properties>security)
He also doesn't know why.
Using his method, other software can run without problem, just this ghost32.Again you need to be logged in as Administrator on that machine for Ghost to function properly.
If this is part of your job description explain to the IT dude what you would like to do...
He will know how to set this up if you are given permission to do this.

This is probably a security measure. If i ran a business i certainly wouldn't want just anyone to be able to clone anything at all while at work.

Solve : I cannot install Windows Media Player...help!?

Answer»

Hello. I have a Toshiba laptop with XP. Somehow, WMP became inoperative. I reinstalled it but it always says that it is not installed properly and do I WANT to visit the website to REINSTALL it. I have tried this several times. It says the installation is successful, but always gives me that same error message. Any ideas?

Thanks,

EricI dont know if this will work but,

Have you tried installing WMP 10 and seeing if that runs ok?What SP ver/WMP ver are you using/trying to use?

When exactly do you get the message & what exactly does it say?Quote

and do I want to visit the website to reinstall it.

Why ? ?
What type of XP installation might this be ? ?Hi. I believe I was trying to install the newest version of WMP. 11 I think. I also down loaded ver. 9 & 10 without success as well.

A window pops up. It says Windows Media Player in the blue bar at the top. The text reads "Windows Media Player is not installed properly and must be reinstalled. Do you want to install the player from the Microsoft website? Yes/no at the bottom. If I click yes, it tales me to the Microsoft website.

Does that help any?

Thanks, EricYes, that's the way the installer WORKS, just SELECT yes & follow the instructions.Tried that several times. After "successful" installation, the same message pops up and I'm back to square one.Do you still have a version of WMP installed?

If you're not sure, check under 'add remove PROGRAMS' & uninstall whatever WMP entries you find. If you're using a genuine version of Windows, you can reinstall WMP from Micro$oft website.

Solve : Very annoying problem, help wanted ASAP?

Answer» HI y'all,

I have a little problem with my computer. Apparently, my sister clicked on a random button (she doesn't remember which button) which started an installation proces for ''Windows PhotoGallery''. The only thing is: we don't have the CD-ROM needed to complete the installation. Don't get me WRONG, we don't want to install, we want to UNinstall. On top of that, every time we (re)boot our computer, a message POPS up SAYING something like: Windows Installer is preparing the installation for PhotoGallery . IS there somebody who knows how to get rid of this annoying POPUP? I would GREATLY appreciate it.

Solve : VB?

Does anyone know how to apply a macro to a button on a userform in Microsoft Excel using VB? Response needed within the next 24 hours if possible.Quote from: alex1991 on February 20, 2008, 05:06:41 AM

Does anyone know how to apply a macro to a button on a userform in Microsoft Excel using VBA?

At first I thought this was a Yes or No question.

When you double click your button in design view, the VB Editor will pop up. Write your macro within the Sub/End Sub statements already provided. This is the click event for the button.

This works for any control on the form, including the form itself. The default is the click event (upper right hand corner) but you can change it as needed.

Thanks, but if I wanted to make a button called Quote run a macro of the same name, what code would I need to type in?Are you drawing this button on the worksheet? Or do you want to attach a macro to a toolbar button?

For the former, the original response will WORK. Draw the button. You can right click the control to change properties such as the caption, name, etc. When you double click the button the VB Editor will appear and you can write your code. Once written you can use Tools-->Macro-->Macros to edit or even assign a shortcut key sequence (options button)

For the latter, go to Tools-->Macro-->Visual Basic Editor. In the left pane either double click the sheet name (LOCAL to the sheet) or thisworkbook (local to the workbook). Again the Visual Basic Editor will appear and you can write your code. Attaching the code to a button is more problematic. I suggest you use the help and search for "Add a button" for a DETAILED description.

Hope this helps. Thanks, the buttons are working now. Much aprreciated.Found a different way to make the buttons work. If you copy the code from the macros into the code for the buttons then the buttons will perform all of the functions that the macro does.

Solve : Outlook Notification Area Envelope w/ Junk E-Mail?

Answer»

Is there a way to have the notification area envelope that Outlook places for new INCOMING mail NOT be shown when all that has arrived is Junk E-Mail? My Junk e-mail folder that is built into Outlook 2007 works great. Filters almost all the junk perfectly, but because of that envelope it places by the clock, I am constantly checking and deleting spam all day LONG. I waste a lot of time doing this, but there is no way to know if you have REAL mail in the Inbox without actually opening up outlook.

I wrote a macro to mark all mail in the Junk E-mail folder a "read" whenever something new arrives, but that does not remove the notification area envelope.

I have searched the WEB far and wide to no avail. With the ubuquity of Outlook in the work place I wonder how many million if not billions of dollars of lost productivity this causes yearly.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.I'm using Outlook 2003 but I'll mention something that seems relevant. If I open Tools, Options, and click on the button named Junk E-mail, the Options tab of that panel has a checkbox for "Permanently delete suspected junk e-mail instead of moving it to the Junk E-mail folder". I haven't tested how enabling that feature affects Outlook's behavior but I'm wondering whether it would stop Outlook from putting notification in the tray. Seems logical but, again, I haven't tested it.Thank you for the quick reply. I can almost guarantee that would work. I cannot do this though because of the rare "good" email that gets placed in Junk by accident. I need to maintain the ability to once a day quickly scan the junk email before deleting it.bump

any ideas? I can program the heck out of a macro..just don't know which DIRECTION someone might be able to lead me in that would be productive.

Solve : I Lost Word as my Outlook e-mail editor?

Answer»

I recently had to uninstall my factory installed Microsoft Office Basic 2003. When I reloaded with the disk Dell SENT me with the computer I could no longer us Word as my e-mail editor.

It started when I went to send a new e-mail and I got this message: "Microsoft Word is set to be your e-mail editor. However, Word is unavailable, not installed, or is not the same version as Outlook. The outlook e-mail editor will be used instead. You don't have APPROPRIATE permission to perform this operation"

I tried a DETECT and repair and it did absolutely nothing.

Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thanks,

RichardCheck your word version. Open Word and go to help, about. If it isn't the same as your outlook version then you can't USE it as your e-mail editor. They are both Outlook 2003.

If there was something different loaded at the factory then from the disk I have that should have resolved itself and not made a difference since I used the disk they sent to reinstall the whole Microsoft Office Basic 2003 program. There would not have been a conflict, I don't think, seeing as how both Word and Outlook are loaded from the same disk.

At least it seems that way to me anyway.
Did you COMPLETELY uninstall Office when you removed it? You can try an Office Repair in Outlook, but clicking on Help, Detect and Repair. If that doesn't fix it try uninstalling it using the ORK http://download.microsoft.com/download/0/e/d/0eda9ae6-f5c9-44be-98c7-ccc3016a296a/ork.exe and then reinstalling it.Quote from: zras01 on February 25, 2008, 03:02:43 PM

They are both Outlook 2003.
That didn't make sense. You mean Office 2003, right? Can you open Word 2003?

Solve : Outlook Attachments?

Answer»

I often receive an e-mail with an attachment designated by a YELLOW envelope icon that won't open in Outlook 2003. I have to go directly to my hotmail account on line to find it may be simple jpg FILES which I can open from there. This happens with only some jpg attachments as well as other types of files.

Can anyone tell me what's happening and how to fix it?

ThanksIs the file extension correct? Outlook will try to protect you from files with EXTENSIONS that it thinks are suspicious including things like filename.jpg.exe which can be harmful to your system. To give you any real information I'll need more info about the files that you can't open and what happens when you try to open one in outlook. Do you get any error messages? If you right click on the yellow envelope icon in Outlook and click properties what does that screen say about the file?thanks for your interest. the text after the yellow envelope is, for instance: "Cat Bath (2.27MB) (3MB)". Absolutely nothing happens when clicking the envelope or file name, and there is no error message. Right clicking does not give the usual drop down menu containing properties - just "open" "save as", ETC. The problem occurs when jpg files are sent, but not ALWAYS and also with ppt files. The e-mail with the Cat Bath files (8 jpg's and 2 txt's) open just fine when accessed in hotmail directly. They are:

20b4cd.jpg (132.0 KB), 20b4dd.jpg (70.8 KB), 20b4ec.jpg (121.2 KB), 20b4fc.jpg (144.3 KB), 20b50c.jpg (108.4 KB), 20b51b.jpg (113.8 KB), 20b52b.jpg (131.7 KB), 20b53a.jpg (112.9 KB), 20b54a.jpg (70.0 KB), 20b55a.jpg (152.2 KB), ATT00008.txt (0.0 KB), ATT00001 (1164.0 KB)

I have this problem when the attachment is just jpg's without any other type included.

The problem seems to occur frequently when sent from AOL, but it has also happened from others.

hoping you can figure this outThat sounds like the files are in an Archive file of some kind. If you select Save As and save it to your desktop can you click on it and open it and see the files? On the desktop it appears with an .msg extension and properties identifies as an Outlook File. It won't open in Outlook or imaging software; opens in Word as a short line of programming symbols

Any further thoughts?

That seems very strange that you would be getting attachments as .msg files.
Download this tool:http://www.download3k.com/Install-Viewer-for-MS-Outlook-Messages.html
And see if you can open the file and extract the attachments with it.
I'll continue looking into this but it's a new one on me....Ok, after some looking about and a couple of tests on my machine here I think I've figured it out.
Whoever is sending you those attachments is a moron. The .msg file is a complete email message saved to a file and then attached to the email to you. It includes whatever attachments were in that email as well. Whoever is doing that should probably be using the FORWARD button instead. I really don't think this is a problem on your end. It's caused by mild retardation on the part of the sender. The tool I gave you a link to should open the file and extract the attachments though.OK, One of our clients had the exact same issue popup. I was able to sit down at the machine and do some troubleshooting. I was able to open the files by starting Outlook in safe mode by holding down Control and opening the program. So I unchecked the Google Toolbar addins under Tools, Options, Other, ADvanced Options, Add-In Manager, and the Google addins and iTunes addins under COM Add-ins. Once I unchecked those and restarted outlook I was able to open the .msg files with no trouble.
Try that out and let me know how it works for you.

Solve : Help moving favorites and address book to Internet Explorer and Outlook Express?

Answer»

I PURCHASED a new COMPUTER and I am also changing ISPs. how do I move my favorites and address book from AOL on my old computer to Internet Explorer and Outlook Express on my new computer? For Favorites, EXPORT them from IE on your old computer and then import them on the new computer. You'll find the Import and Export command on the File MENU of IE.

For an AOL address book, I'm not sure. I'd search for an export feature and see what options it gives you for exporting. If it shows .CSV file as an OPTION, that should work. Now, there might be a better option; I can't say since I don't use AOL.

It's happening to existing hyperlinks in previously working workbooks & new hyperlinks.

Thanks in advance for any help...Do you own this computer or is it owned by your employer or someone else? Solve : How can I get Outlook 2003 to open directly to the calendar view??

Answer»

I just got a new work computer running Windows XP and Microsoft Outlook 2003. My previous computer was also running XP but had an older Outlook version.

My pet peeve with the new Outlook is that it automatically OPENS to the Mail section. All I use it for is the calendar. Every time I open it, I see the useless "mail" section and have to click "calendar" to actually get to what I use.

My old work computer and my home computer (both running older versions) both open directly to the calendar view, which is perfect. I'm not sure if that is how they came originally or whether I somehow set it up to open that WAY, as it has been years since I began using the programs on those computers.

In any case, I've been through all the settings and have searched and searched online for an answer as to how to get Outlook 2003 to just simply open to the calendar view instead of the mail view. Anyone who can help will receive undying gratitude in return (and perhaps some KARMA?!). I think I have good news for you. Tools, Options, Other, Advanced Options (button), Browse (button), and select Calendar. Click OK, OK, ..., until all panels CLOSED. On the Tools menu, click options.
Click the Other tab, and then click Advanced Options.
Under General Settings, next to the 'Startup in this folder' box, click Browse.
In the Select Folder dialog box, select the folder you want to appear when you start Outlook.

Solve : Unable to read multisession DVD?

Answer»

I started a multisession data DVD with Nero and now I can't seem to finalize it. I started it quite a while ago and I'm not sure if I was using Nero 6 or 7 (or that it matters). When I attempt to add additional content Nero 7 prompts me to select a track (2 are DISPLAYED) to add data to, but won't actually allow me to select anything. The only option within Nero I can find for finalization is Finalize VR, but this isn't a video, and I'm concerned I would lose the data.

I've also attempted to finalize using DVD Decrypter. When I try to finalize the disc I get an error message stating "Session Fixation Error - Incomplete track in session" and gobbledygook I/O errors if I attempt to close tracks or sessions.

My question then; does anyone know of software that will allow me to view the physical sectors on the DVD and recover the data even though Windows can't? IsoBuster.
Grabthe Free edition...Thanks! I'll GIVE it a try and post the results. GOTCHA...I discovered that it is going to take a very long time. In a hurry?I have recovered 1.68 GB of data that I don't really need. Now I can TOSS the DVD WITHOUT worrying. Now if I could just find the mutlisession DVD with the info I was looking for . . . . I thought that's what we were working on...ISOBuster is good but it won't find lost DVD's...

Solve : Computer as Telephone Receiver?

Answer»

My roommate just moved out and took his phone with him. I use Windows Live Calling to call other people using Voice over Internet Protocol. But Windows Live Calling identifies people by E-mail addresses, slightly hard to call on a phone. As my computer has a modem, and computers can send faxes, I was wondering if any one has come across a program that allows a computer to pick up a phone line, RJ-11, like NORMAL phones instead of using VoIP.

OS: Vista Home Premium
Manufacture: Dell
Model: Inspiron 1501
Processor: AMD Turion 64 x2
RAM: ~2GB
Modem: Conexant HDA D110 MDC V.92
Graphics CARD:ATI Radeon Xpress 1150

That is probably more than necessary, but those would be the things that CAUSE the most problems.I'm still waiting for a response, this post is to bring the question to the front of the line.I believe unless the callers post that option all you will see is the email addy...CHECK with your VOIP provider to see if the option EXISTS...You might switch to Yahoo! Voice. I occasionally use it for outgoing calls. It can also be used for incoming calls; the incoming call service costs $2.49/mo. See http://voice.yahoo.com/phone_number.php for more info.My VoIP is from Windows Live. It is difficult to call an E-mail address unless you are calling from one yourself.Quote from: patio on February 26, 2008, 08:42:40 AM

So, you can open the file if you save it first? Is that right?Yes, that's right. You could try this. The following comes from Help for IE 7, but is probably the same for IE 6:

To reset Internet EXPLORER to the default settings

Close any Internet Explorer or Windows Explorer windows that are currently open.
Open Internet Explorer.
Click the Tools button, and then click Internet Options.
Click the Advanced tab, and then click Reset.
In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, click Reset.
When Internet Explorer finishes restoring the default settings, click Close, and then click OK.
Close Internet Explorer.
The changes will take effect the next time you open Internet Explorer.

Solve : ITunes subdirectory and files suddenly became corrupt!?

Answer»

On my Dell Dimension WinXP Home I frequently play tunes from the ITunes player and playlists. The only change made on this PC just before this issue was to remove another application, not ITunes, and then reinstall same. When I tried to access a FILE in the ITunes playlist I see this error message:"The song COULD not be played because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" When I located the ITunes subdirectory I found the file names had been changed to gobble-de-gook, like some strange character set. And the file is not readable by windows or ITunes. This seems to be the only folder and files affected.
Can CHKDSK or anything else correct these files? I ran CHKDSK and it reported errors and asked if I wanted to run CHKDSK /F to fix these errors. Unfortunately there is no previous restore point because I thought Windows did that automatically.Do those files look like this:

[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]The file names are actually from the old IBM character set, a mixture of 8 characters, a period and three characters, in the DOS file name fashion. I can't duplicate them here. I've tried a screen shot but I can't capture the directory tree to show you. Anyhow, if I double click on one of these I get an error message from Windows saying "the file is not accessable. Access denied." Before this issue the file had the name of the song and double clicking on it brought up a media player and the music played correctly. What "other" application was it that was removed ? ?The application I removed was called "Desktop Sheet Music" from www.IDDUSA.com
BTW, my PC is a dual boot Win98/WinXP.
This application was installed on both partitions. Then I removed from both Win98 and WinXP. After I reinstalled it on WinXP only. THen later on I opened ITunes and discovered this file name issue. Hope that is clear enough.

[file cleanup - saving space - attachment deleted by admin]Quote

a period and three characters
What are those three characters?
Also, iTunes merely holds libraries only, not songs themselves. Search your computer for *.mp3I appreciate your response. Let me see if I understand what you're saying. I Tunes is simply a pointer file system that points to the MP3 files, simply speaking, right? So when I import music from a CD the actual music is digitized to a location on my HARD drive, in my system to the "I" partition of my secondary hard drive. (My physical C:/ drive is not partitioned. My secondary physical drive is partitioned to F:/, I:/, J:/, K:/, L:/, and M:/.) Partitions G:/ and H:/ are the Win98 partitions. It is possible that while running Win98 this I Tunes folder was accessed and caused the files within to BECOME corrupted?\
BTW I did a search for MP3 files on this PC and it did not LIST any files within the I:/I Tunes Music folder I guess because the three characters after the period are not .mp3. Your comments please, thanks.Quote

Exactly!
The location of those files, depends on where they were directed to during CD ripping, so you have to search all partitions.

Solve : Storing and accessing DVD's from hard drive?

Answer»

I would like to be able to put a dvd into my dvd drive and be able to SAVE the MOVIE to my hard drive. (Don't worry, I own all the dvd's). I was told that dvd encrypt or was a good program to use but now that I have the files saved on my hard drive, how do I get them to play? I would also like to convert them into a different format, one that takes up LESS space, but still be able to watch them by clicking on them. how would I go about doing all of this? and is there a single program that will copy the files to my computer, compress the files and allow me to watch them?Hello

Firstly, to save time it's called dvd 'ripping' ;-)

There are literally hundreds of free dvd ripping programs to choose from, I use CladDVD although Free DVD ripper is quite good.

What format are the files that you have already ripped/copied from your DVD onto your computer? are they VOB?

If so, convert them into MPG using SOMETHING like VOB2MPG (what I use). You can play VOB's on your computer by installing codecs, but VOB takes up a lot of HD space so your best off converting them.

MPG or MPEG is the best format for saving space on your HD & is playable with any media player & easily edited in Windows Movie Maker.

You'll find lots of other free programs/guides here.

Let me KNOW if you need any more help

Solve : Capturing video suggestions?

Answer»

Hello,

I have been looking for a way to capture smooth clear graphics on my computer and have tried Camstudio and BB Flashback, and they are ok for capturing an install of software etc where the graphics transition is INFREQUENT, but when trying to capture a video games game play, the video capturinging performance takes a big dive and it gets choppy and very pixelated.

My hardware is a Compaq S6030NX 2.08Ghz AMD Athlon XP 2800+ with a 160GB IDE HD, 2GB Ram, and an 8x AGP GeForce 6200 video card.

Trying to capture say gameplay of World of Warcraft is pretty ugly with both of those FREE video capturing tools.

Is there another software application out there that will do this better, or shoudl I be looking at feeding my video output via dual video out to another system with a video capture card and software for creating AVI's etc?

If I can get this single system to play the game and cappture video smoothly and clearly that would be great.

Hardware wise, the Compaq does not slow down during WOW gameplay, so I dont believe this video capturing quality to be due to my hardware, but rather the sampling rate and quality of the video capturing software.

Thanks,

DaveTry Fraps, it's is not freeware but it is the best software for capturing gameplay footage I've come across.
If gameplay is choppy your hardware isn't up to the task of playing the game and capturing video at the same TIME. Try lowering the graphics settings of the game and SEE if that improves things.I take it you've played with (options > video settings) within CamStudio? try setting it to 100% quality & also change the capture rate to every ** milliseconds.

I found capturewiz quite good (free trial) although I didn't use it to capture gameplay.

Another free one you could try is Freez.

Just want to ask about the following below:
1. What are these memory clock speed, core clock speed and pixel pipelines?
2. Where can I find them? Can you give an example of this so that I'll know where I can find them in the video card specifications.
3. Is the 128bit in the video card a "memory clock speed" or "core clock speed"?

We have a contradiction here. Your boot.ini file contains what you see during startup, the screen where you can choose an OS. So, if you see "Vista" on that screen during startup, then it IS in your boot.ini file.soybean,
Vista doesn't use the boot.ini, it uses the BCD (Boot Configuration Data). I know this but not how to work with it. (At least not yet.) Unless the OP did something tricky, XP would have been installed first and then Vista added for the dual boot. I'm not aware of an actual "uninstall" for Vista (but someone should create it :-)), so I suspect it has left the BCD behind. BCD will run first. If XP is picked boot.ini will then run. Eg0Death, thanks for pointing that out and for linking to the reference.Isn't this simply a matter of running FIXMBR from the XP recovery console then? This should overwrite the MBR with a standard XP boot loader and get rid of anything Vista have left behind (in the MBR).Deerpark,
By Jove, I think you're on to someting! (Or is it 'on something' . . . ?) I don't ACTUALLY know though. I need to go break an XP/Vista dual boot to be certain. Where did my 2nd post dissappear to ? ?

I have seen allot of people having trouble getting Vista TOTAL un- installed from computer depending how it was installed.

Solve : Seagate Free Agent Go Questions?

Answer»

Hi, I just PURCHASED a Seagate External Harddrive Free Agent Go with 80 GB.

I purchased this believing I would be ABLE to backup all of my

1) Data files (Saved WORD documents/music/videos/pictures/excel/quicken spreadsheets).
2) Program files (Microsoft Office/iTunes/Quicken/etc.)
3) Settings (Desktop icons arrangements/Browser)

All of which would allow me to when I go on a different computer....have access to all of my data/program files and settings as well as being able to re-install painlessly all of these files on my computer should I need to reformat.

Instead, it looks as if the only thing I can store/backup/portably use are my data files NOT program files or settings.

1) I wanted to know if with my product I can store data/program files and settings or not.
-If so...how to.
2) If not...what product or additional products would I need to store all of this data?
3) I also wanted to know in the event I reformat my computer...how I can restore all my data/programs from the Seagate DRIVE to my harddrive.
4) Lastly...I see the software came with Creedo.
Is this some sort of add on program...I've tried running it...they advertised it as allowing you to SAVE settings but then it showed a price...confusing.

Thanks.?Check out MojoPac

Because when I open Word is wants to install files from the disk and this happens every time.I uninstalled and reinstalled about four times now and still the same thing.Any ideas what is happening here. When you install Office 2003 are you choosing to do a customized installation? Solve : spyware software vs. registry cleaner?

Answer»

What is the difference between spyware SOFTWARE and a regsitry cleaner? Should I have both?
Thanks.Spyware software looks for malware.

Registry cleaners look for empty or broken registry keys.

They do two completely different things.

Registry cleaners/optimizers should be treated with extreme caution. They remove whatever they find. With no warning many users find their system unbootable after using a powerful registry cleaner. If you are not 110% positive what is being removed is safe to remove, then don't do it. You really will have no noticeable increase in performance by cleaning the registry anyway so don't worry too much about it. Defragging the registry from time to time should be enough.

Auslogics Registry Defrag - http://www.majorgeeks.com/Auslogics_Registry_Defrag_d5668.htmlThanks for the info on the differences. Now what is an excellent spyware software program?
Thanks again. It's best to use a mix of at least two on-demand scanners. I will switch up their use, using a different one WEEKLY or so.

CCleaner just rids the bloat that windows is in-efficient at taking care of itself. Running CCleaner prior to a defrag is a good idea as it will remove all of the files no longer needed and therefore SPEED up the defrag time.Ad-Aware 2007 and Spyware Terminator seem to do a reasonable job for detecting and removing spyware. Solve : Just want to ask about Compression?

Answer»

Just want to ask about Compression. I got here a video clip which is 98,919MB size. When I compressed it using WinRar it took only 90,717MB. I thought that when I compress it it will reduce to 50% of the size.

Now my question is:
What do you THINK is problem? The WinRar compressor isn't that effective? What is the file format of your video? The format is MPEG Sir.Movies formats are generally not very compressible with lossless compressors like RAR.
You are never going to see anything near 50% compression on a movie format, you're very lucky if you get 10%.
Why this is isn't easy to explain but basically it is because media files like movies and sound doesn't contain much repeated data. And file compressors work by finding patterns of repeated data in the files.Yeah, what Deerpark said.

You might be able to reduce the file size by converting to a DIFFERENT format or quality level though. Video files compress the LEAST while for example a simple text file can compress the most...

The compression ratio is more dependent on the file type rather than the method of compression.

Grab a Coffe and have a readThanks Sir patio, Eg0Death and Deerpark!

What do you mean about the "repeated data"?http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Data_compressionall video formats except for RAW video are already compressed, using techniques similar those which file compression programs use. Same applies to jpg images. WINDOWS bitmap (bmp) come in compressed and non compressed varieties.

Solve : Is there any tool that can let me save the whole html page as an image??

Answer»

Good evening all!

I am LOOKING for a tool to SAVE my unofficial academic result displayed in HTML format as an image, like .jpg or .gif.
I can make request for an offical transcript, but it will cost me US $30 to do so.

Could you help me please?Well, try simply doing a screen print, pasting it into Paint (you'll find it in Start, All PROGRAMS, Accessories), and saving as a .jpg or .gif file. To do a screen print of a WEB page, hit Alt + Print Screen, with your web page being the active window. Then, open Paint and paste.

If the web page showing your transcript data can be fully captured with a screen print, another option is "printing" the page to a PDF file. Then, you can view that file in Adobe Reader or another PDF reader, and print it. I'll suggest PrimoPDF for this. PrimoPDF is a free tool for high-quality PDF creation.

However, I think you need to verify that any printout you produce from the website will be accepted as an official transcript. And, if so, what about just printing the web page?

about it evilfantasy thanks,i just wanted
to know it is a safe program.

thank you both for your time..Hello evilfantasy!

Can revo uninstall NCT 2000-XP even without its password. Unfortunately for some REASON, we lose the password we use for installing NCT and now we're having a hard time uninstalling it.

Thanks in advance! What is NCT 2000-XP?Actually its the driver of the console that we used a coupe of months ago. It enabled us to have 2 users sharing the same computer at the same time. Actually its not much of a problem. Its just that it has been a couple of months and the driver still in the computer.

Anyways, Thanks, EF! Not sure how to uninstall that exact driver but a google search brings up a few different methods.

Be sure to backup the registry first

Solve : Why security is the major factor in web conferencing??

Answer»

Hi,
In this web world EVERYONE wants to save TIME, work efficiently, accurately and to their maximum speed by sitting at one place without any physical exertion. But in respect of all this the reasons I am here is to find a secure web conference APPLIANCE that will be compatible in terms of use as well. PLEASE help me to find a GOOD one.

I'm not very familiar with the options for your requirements, but I believe WebEx is one you should look at: http://www.webex.com/

Also, more details on your requirements would be helpful. How many people might you want to conference together at the same time? Do you need audio and video working together?

Solve : downgrading?

Answer»

I have a toshiba laptop and it came with vista on it, i want to put xp pro on it instead.....can it be done, i can not get it to UNINSTALL and it of course won't LET me downgrade with the cd INSTALLATION! can anyone help?Sure it can be done.
But to be on the SAFE side you would want to find out if there are XP drivers for all the laptop components first
Post more info and we'll go from there.
There is a method to let it install XP but let's get the drivers needed first.

Solve : How to save files from windows 95?

Answer»

I have the windows 95 operating system on my computer. I have just bought a new laptop and would like to SAVE the FILES from my OLD computer onto a rewriteable CD. I have tried to do this but for some reason it won't work. Do I need to format the CD-RW first? If so, is there some software that I need to download to do this? If there is can I download the softward if I have windows 95 as an operating system. I am stuck as I really need the files off my old computer. If anyone can help would be appreciated.

DebraDoes your 95 computer have CD\DVD burner, or it's just CD-ROM?djw, do you have an ethernet 10/100 port on both computers? you could set up a LAN between the 2 computers if they do. Do both computers have USB ports? if they do a flash drive will do it also.truenorth
