When CONVERTING from a .pptx to .ppt the size of my file jumped from 600kb to 6mb. I have to GET the file size down to under 1mb and in a .ppt format. Does anyone know how to reduce the file size? I have already tried compressing the pictures in powerpoint but it didn't seem to have much effect.Assuming you're converting it in OFFICE 2007, try opening the .ppt you already have that's 6 MB and saving it in an older version of office and SEE if the size changes.I DID NOT POST THAT 1ST MESSAGE!!!!!!!

t_blake07. I would urge you to become more familiar with how torrents work and how to OPTIMIZE your computer to enhance the speed of the connection to torrents. Since last evening, in MS Word, the background of every object that ought to have the same
background as the document (after setting the background color to "no filling") is gray. When
I TRY to SET it for example red and 50% transparency, I don't GET a color between red and white

I have had my laptop alittle over a year. Its a toshiba satillite.

I was trying to burn music that I ripped off of my CD's through my Zune SOFTWARE (which ive done many times) but all of a SUDDEN Zune (nor WMP 11) wont recongize my burner at all .. but YET NERO 7 will.

But even when I try to burn with NERO ..the burner / my computer FREEZES up.

Hello, I bought a new microphone for my computer to hopefully get it to work so I'd be able to communicate with others when needed.
The sound on my computer works, I plug everything in the right areas but it never DETECTS my voice, if I have music on THOUGH it records the music coming through the headphones but it can not detect sound in the area I am in, anyone know what I'm doing wrong or how to fix it?ARe you sure the MIC isn't muted?You may also need to enable a microphone booster feature in your sound software. If you don't have that box checked, the mic is worthless.

I've installed the latest version of Corel Draw i.e. CorelDRAW Graphics Suite X4 14, pached it and followed all the steps given. But it just won't allow me to save, print and use some SIMPLE functions.
And the joke is that I've also installed the same software on THREE other comps and it WORKED. So what can I do? Is there a keygen and crack for the same software?

I need help! my computer locks up completely to the point where i have to hard reboot. I tried tweaking with every option i know but i can't tell what's making it lockup. I tried reformatting the HD, reinstalling windows and all the latest critical updates, flashed the BIOS with the latest version, updated all video,audio,etc drivers and nothing it crashes mostly when i play video games but most programs will eventually crash including IE. I know its not the memory because i ran memtest86 for almost 15 hrs with no erros, and prime95 for a few hours without errors. The video card is fine too, i test it on another computer for hours with no lock ups or crashes. what COULD it be? are there any diagnosis programs i could use to pin point the problem? any help will be very much appreciated.

-substitute a different video card or hard drive, then reinstall windows and let it run for a while.
-I've had systems lock up with bad ribbon cables to my hard drives, try substituting those.Also make sure you're getting airflow through the PC, your heatsink is PROPERLY seated, etc... Lockups like that can be caused by overheating.As of today I've monitored the CPU and GPU TEMPS. and they are within the average numbers. I've basically taken the whole pc apart to check for damaged cables but they all seem in really good shape so that's out of the picture. The only thing i haven't tried yet is swapping the HD, but I doubt that can be the problem. I mean its not making any noises to indicate its about to fail and after defragging it there wasn't any errors found. I really don't know what to do anymore and I would hate to take it to geeksquad for a 200 buck "check up". DLoad and run MemTest for the RAM...let it run a few hours....
Any errors either way will point you in the right direction.I d/led the diagnosis software from western digital and i did the SMART test and the Extended Test and the HD is fine no errors at all. I ran memTest-86 again for a couple of hours and nothing either...
My CPU Temp. at Idle 35C and at full load 45c and my GPU runs at 60C idle and 82C at full load, is that average temps.?
Could my MoBo be the cause? and is there a way to diagnose?

Well here's the deal..

Me and my friends at school usually play Halo (COMBAT evolved) during breaks and recently my COMPUTER has been acting all weird and not willing to start Halo.

When I start the game, it first flashes out to minimize but then comes back up. At the "HALO" screen it just freezes and blinks with lighter and darker brightness.
One time I got the errormessage that a shader FILE was missing. Although I copied it again from a friend so I know it's not that.

A few months ago I was having some problems
with my computer, and I installed XP over itself.
Everything went al right, until I got to Disk 2;
It kept ASKING for disc2 But would not accept it;
at the time I thought nothing of it as the disc 1 was
completed OK.
But I realized media center was no longer there.
I thought it would be in,
"Add/Remove Windows Components"
it's not there;
the only thing I found in c:/ folder is "MEDIACTR"
there's an I386 folder;
when I opened this there are cab files.
In my documents I found "WXP - MCE.EXE-1"
but when I clicked on it I got a dialog box "the application
failed to initialize properly ( OXc0000135).click on OK to
terminate the application".
It's entered correctly in the registry.
the dword is 1.

I got information from Microsoft to use disc2
I tried every step there, down to the Registry hack.

I have here a Windows XP Media Center Edition. Media Center Edition have two disc to complete the installation. When you insert the disc two and it won't accept it then I think somethings problem with your installer.

Hello Hope For U ms.

My Outlook worked fine until one DAY it started showing a bubble everytime I go to begin a new message/ with the new blank message comes the warning that "my security settings prohibit the running of activex controls and my page may not display right". The message then goes away and the page displays fine.
I WANT the error message to return to where ever it came from. I see it everytime I open an email.

I checked the Internet Explorer controls and WENT to advanced TAB. Lowered the security settings to med. low. and enabled active x in the advances settings section. It doesn't make any difference.

Anyone run into this problem after an update? I looked in the archives and couldn't track it down. MS notes the problem but hasn't PROVIDED a clear solution. Thank you. Does it do this for ever email you try to reply to? Does it do it for new emails that you start? Are you using Word as your email editor?Hi, Thanks for responding,
It does it for the new emails only. Reply works ok. I am looking to see how to change the email editor to word now, can't find screen. But no Word is not my default editor. I'll see if I can change it from Outlook. The box to change it on outlook is greyed out!!!

I run Windows XP on my PC. I am about to buy a new laptop and wonder if I should buy Vista Office or XP Professional. I use Word and Excel a lot and want to be able to transfer and work on files from one computer to another, without problems or loss of data. Does anybody see any problems? Thanks for any help.

What version of Outlook? What service pack for Office do you have installed?I am using version 2000 I THINK. I can't get into it.

GarryYou need to remove any Outlook Add-ins you have installed. Oshare has been known to cause this error.

Go to C:\Documents and Settings\YOUR USERNAME\Local Settings\Application Data\Microsoft\Outlook
and right click on Extend.dat, select RENAME, change the file to Extend.OLD.
Open Outlook, it should open normally. Re-enable your Add-ins one at a time until you find the problem one.

Edit: Just in case that doesn't work you may have to go to this registry key:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Office\Outlook\
And change the LoadBehavior dword for each add-in to 2. That should stop them from loading on startup.

Hi all.
Today, when I started Word, a message came up "Installing....." which has never happened before,
Word seems OK, EXCEPT it has changed the size of the blinking cursor on the page to about 1/2 size.
I have tried to look for a place to alter it back but cannot find any.
Can anyone please point me in the right direction.

Font size, and all ELSE, is exactly the same, Just the cursor size is smaller.
I have made no changes to Word, but the other day when started a screen came up "Intalling...." only for a second and was gone. So I have no idea what was installed. There were no CD's in the drive and the modem light did not flash.
All I can think of is that it was some sort of upgrade from M/soft that DOWNLOADED earlier.
The only macros I use with Word are the default ones.
Computer is Intel Core 2 Duo with 750Gb h/d, 3 Gb RAM.

Now, you can ignore my last post. However, I suggest you visit the LINK and read it anyway. Knowing about the normal.dot file is a good thing for Word users. The procedure there can be used RESOLVE weird problems with Word.

After inserting an sd card into comp i used to get the option of what to do ie view pictures, extract all, do nothing etc, but i ticked the box to do the same all the time and now i want to change the setting. Is there an easier way to get back the option again than going to all the trouble of a system restore.

The way I KNOW of is to plug your camera in and just close the AutoPlay prompt when it COMES up. Open My COMPUTER and find the DRIVE for the camera, then right click, and select Properties.

The window that comes up should have a few tabs, one of which says AutoPlay. Under the Actions section, change the program it opens with, or select the second option below to ask you what to do each time you plug the camera in.Thanks heaps for that sqthreer, it worked a treat. Bob

I keep running network wizard and keep turning on file / printer sharing so that I can get into my laptop with my DESKTOP but it seems like its not "storing it" or keeping it. It just turns it right back off when the wizard is done.

Is there another way to turn file sharing on where it will stick?You may try mapping a drive to the shared FOLDER from your laptop. Remember to mark a CHECK next to "Reconnect at logon", then, your mapping will remain PERMANENT even after reboot.

I use word quite infrequently and am not very used to it but i have a very annoying problem.

I select text in any word document and paste new text over the top but the new text appears infront of the selected text and the selected text remains on the page so i have to delete it manually?

Has anybody else encountered this? or is there some SETTING i've accidentally TURNED on to prevent it deleting selected text?

I have a major problem. I have written a 600 page COOKBOOK and put it on CD, s for my FRIENDS and RELATIVES. I wrote it over several years using several MS Word editions. When people access it from their PCs' , with different editions of MS Word many of the characters are corrupted. Characters like ½ may appear as a 1 or 2 or 1a or even:. Other fractions are also affected and others will appear as written. I am now in the process of doing an almost complete rewrite and EDIT. Currently I am using Office2007.
Now for the QUESTION. How do I, or even can I, prevent this from happening to my new edited CD’s?
Any hints or help will be greatly appreciated.

EMail addy removed to prevent SPAMBy default, the document is saved as Office2007 compliant format if you use Office2007. However, some of your friends and relatives may not use the same version as yours and that explains why some of the characters become corrupted.

All you need to do is to open your existing writeup and save it in this format, Word 97-2003 Document (*.doc). This option will allow your document to be compliant with any version that is lower than office2007.

Could this be what is actually happening in your system?Yes, they sit there with a line through them, but only in All Mail view (it works NORMALLY and clears messages immediately from the other folders). Now I see that they are gone, except that I had to close the application and go BACK in. I should have done that first! That works for me. Thanks.

Some months aao I had a PROBLEM that seemed to right itself or at the time I thought it was solved when I replaced a power cord
I have Windows XP2 I have new Viewsonic monitor that has an Ipod dock(not used) plus usb ports and a card reader for my digital photos
They all ahve been working fine for some months . Yesterday it decided the card drives on the monitor were no longer there, and its not recognising USB devices apart from the printer and scanner, these include flash drivem exernal drive, seprate card reader
it is not recognising them on either the monitor ports or other USB ports in my tower, tonight I tried booting up without my printer and scanner connected which use USB and had no problem with and seeing if it made a difference it didn't even the USB that normally hase my printers or scanner in still did not regonise. Went into device Manager it has a USB devices unrecgonised but nothing was plugged in to them , does this indicate a problem with the USB Hub
I use a local comiuter guy and he said before it was a power supply can't see how when he has put in maximum power, had nothing else plugged in apart from computer tower and screen, went and saw three guys at retail stores computer tech setcion and they didn't have a clue what it could be this it is driving me crazy and iks making tings difficult since I need the stuff on mt drives. All the devices work on other computers so its not them. Can anyone help pleaseLocate every instance of both USB roots and hubs in Device Manager...
Right click each of them and select remove. You will get a warning message - ignore it.
Upon re-boot Windows will re-install them.
See if this helps.I did the ones that said unreocgnised devices and started doing the others but my mouse uses a USB so had to shut down manually , yes it remade the ones I had shut down but did not solve the problem and still have two saying unrecognised but the things I currently have plugged in ie printer and mouse are working but now my scanner isn't Sorry if i wasn't clear...
The procedure is to unplug all unneccessary devices first.
Then remove ALL instances of both USB ports and hubs whether you have a USB mouse or not.
Then re-boot.

Any un-recognised devices mean the drivers are not properly installed for that device.
The best method for this is to try one device at a time...if it doesn't work re-install the drivers ...I will try again I did only have my mouse and my monitor(for my card readers and extra usb ports) I am not very up on all this stuff. Is there as easy way I can tell which USB port relates to the the mouse so I can do it last or is it just by trial and error
plus the plug and play stuff I am having trouble with don't have any soft ware so no drivers to install I think the drivers are in XP? I've had the tower into the comuter shop and it works fine there but being intermittent I guess that's Murhpys lawFollow the steps outlined and we'll go from there...

But lets solve one issue at a time.
Okay have uninstallaed and rebooted and still the same, showing 2 unrecognised USB devices,,mouse and working printer fine, the unrecognised ones seem to be the Monitor base which has Usb hubs built in and card readers, which normally show up as extra drives, they are not., and my Canon scanner, 5200F I have dowloaded and instlalled new updated drivers just in case, made no difference. Didn't fire up like it usually does when I boot up. Says unble to open Twain source, check connections and START toolbox again-did that

The plugs in not working are a failry new flash drive not registering, again used it to get photos printed off Wednesday and a portable Seadisk drive again okay a few days ago, the light is coming on so its drawing power but not showing as an external drive. These problems are the same ones I have been having intermittently for about 12 months now, sometimes they fix themselves, when I have taken the tower and the plug ins to the shop they work okay EVERYTIME, I have tested the plug in at neigbours house and they are fine. Borrowed a new powered hub from the shop 4port USB 2.0 hub, to see if that made a difference, it didn't, it wouldn't recognse that either

IreneI don't know whether this is a Windows problem or a hardware problem, but I think it may be a hardware problem, a problem with your motherboard. If that's the case, then an add-on USB controller card could be the solution. This is a card that installs in a PCI slot in your computer. It adds 4 more USB ports on back of your computer.

This would be an easy installation for anyone who has installed RAM, sound card, or video card. If you've never done any such upgrades yourself and don't feel comfortable ATTEMPTING to install such a device, you could take it to a shop and have them do it.

I KNOW this wasn't possible a year or so ago but I was wondering if there is a program out there that can transfer the CONTENTS of one to computer to another and install the programs it is transferring. I believe Vista can do something like this.Ghost or Acronis should be capable of that.I have had a look at those and I'm not quite sure that they would do the TRICK. They will transfer from one hard drive to another on the same machine but I'm not sure about from one computer to a different computer. None of the software blurb mentions different computers.Right, exactly. Ghost or Acronis can be used to CREATE an image of the entire hard drive and restore that image to another hard drive. However, Ghost and Acronis are normally used to create image from which the entire contents of the hard drive can be restored on the computer from which the image came, not on a different computer.

This drive image would contain the device drivers for the computer on which it was created. If you try to restore that image to a different computer, that's obviously not going to be a smooth transition unless that target computer is identical to the source computer.

I know this wasn't possible a year or so ago but I was wondering if there is a program out there that can transfer the contents of one to computer to another and install the programs it is transferring. I believe Vista can do something like this.

I was using Microsoft Office 2003, and discovered there was a facility in the 'Office Tools' section for SCANNING a document and converting it to text with OCR. It worked really well. I have now upgraded to Office 07 and cannot find it. Does ANYONE know WHETHER it is hidden somewhere in there please?

i have downloaded a file, it could be more than 30 file and it might be in Bin, so i want to change this Bin to Iso, and then put in my memory card 4GB.
I already tried MagicIso i'm not sure how to do it, and it seems like i can't combine all of the 30 files into 1.

any help?

This doesn't make sense... first you say you've got 1 file, and later in the same sentence you say 30. And what do you mean by it might be a bin file? Either it is or it isn't.

After extracting all files, what are the new files extensions?

I, sadly, LACK much knowledge on computers yet I nonetheless reformatted to the usual windows OS and everything WENT quite smoothly, that is, until I realized video played in a nasty saturation which I'm unable to change, videos on youtube and such work fine, in FACT, all video aside whatever is the standard for DVDs is WORKING hence I guess my PC will for some reason not read WMV STILL I'm in no position to make such speculation.
Anyway point is, how would I go about fixing this?You need video driver.Apparently not, I pulled the most recent one off the dell website and it informed me they were the same.You can still try re-installing the driver...they sometimes get corrupted and this will not harm anything by trying.
Is this onboard video or an add-on card ? ?
If an add-on card remove a side panel from the case and make sure the vid card fan is operating properly.
Take the opportunity to do some housekeeping in there. A can of compressed air works well for this.
NOTE: Use a QTip to hold the fan blades in place when blasting them to prevent damage.

As always when working inside the case remove all power sources and take anti-static precautions.

I don’t know if anyone can help or not but starting a COUPLE of days ago, I can no longer open EMAIL attachments which have a file folder icon (more files inside the attachment). I can open any other type of attachment (pics, powerpoint, excel, etc). I can’t find anything in Outlook help to perhaps unlock some security feature that has been turned on. I’ve gone into my Outlook file folders and can’t open ANY attachments that have the file folder icon. Rebooting doesn’t help. Any ideas?

Any new software installed...such as a protection program and or a firewall ? ?No new program installs other than a couple of games. I have a firewall, but that has been in for some time. I was wondering if anyone could help me figure something out. I have Windows XP and have been using Outlook for my default mail handler for the past year. This morning I was typing an email and think I hit a key(s) that did something strange. Now when I reply or compose an email the space bar puts dots instead of spaces and I have all these BACKWARDS P's (something to do with paragraphs?). I don't know what I did and the settings LOOK normal. I have no idea how to get this back to normal. Even if I open an email from SOMEONE the dots in between words have been added to the text when I hit 'reply'. Any suggestions would be greatly APPRECIATED! You accidentally pressed turned on the SHOW Paragraphs option.
If you open a New email and look at the top of the toolbar you should see on the far right hand side a symbol that looks like a paragraph mark. Click it and the dots and funny marks should go away. If you don't see that then click on View, Toolbars, and make sure the Standard toolbar is checked. I've included an handy dandy picture of the toolbar with the button circled so you'll know what I'm talking about.

I am ATTEMPTING to burn a bootable cd of a Win 2k version with SP.4 and all updates slipstreamed. When the slipstreamed files are burned without an attempt to make the cd bootable Autorun kicks in and the OS can be INSTALLED with all updates so it seems there is nothing wrong with the slipstreaming.

I have followed the Roxio instructions for burning a bootable cd and so far have used a bootable floppy and a downloaded .img file to try to burn the bootfiles without success. The cd burned using the floppy image files boots to Dos and Setup cannot RUN in a Dos environment, the downloaded .img file causes bootup to freeze at the "boot from cd:" line.

Can someone advise how to include an image file, in the burning process, which will make the cd bootable?

I want access to automatically caluculate this: Earning = Price * Quantity
So every time i input data in to quantity access should be able to calculate that and leave a value on earning

I have no idea why but my MSN is not working. Not Windows Messenger, MSN Messenger 7.5, and not Windows Live Messenger (doesn't even download anymore).

WillHave you had much experience in Photoshop? Are you familiare with layers?

When you get the picture of yourself, you can extract yourself using the lasso tool, or the tool of your choice, and place it on another layer above your picture of New York. The picture you extract will be it's own layer, so you can resize it and place yourself anywhere you want.
