I GOT a winPE.iso from a France FORUM, and have BURNT it to a blank CD and tested it successfully; but I don't know France, and I would like to know if it is POSSIBLE to alter the default language of the winPE to ENGLISH?

Please help if you could!If it was built with the French language pack, no.

patio,yes you are correct it can. However with patience you can occasionally (i missed one by less that 2 minutes once) find one in a cf-25 being sold as NON working that has the cd-r drive in it instead of the 3 1/2.I have had the one i own for over 3 years before i was able to find the adapter that would allow me to verify that it actually would work,( i could have easily found the adapter if i was prepared to spend from $80.00 to $200.00 rather than the eventual $5.75 i did pay)having done that i would like to upgrade the O/S to SOMETHING a little closer to the CURRENT century. My son told me yesterday that the interface on Windows Media Player 11 looks odd on his computer and asked me to change back to normal like it is on my computer. If you'll notice in the screenshot below, the tabs and BUTTONS are in B&W. When I first start Media Player, for about 1/2 second you can see the correct interface, but then te ghastly black and white stuff overlays. He couldn't tell me how long it has been this way. Have tried everything I can think of including uninstalling, upgrading video DRIVERS, themes, desktop properties, ETC. Both computers are the same model and both use XP. THANKS!

I had a similar problem with notepad, the MENU items suddenly became highlighted (file,edit etc).

The cause was either me editing some system32 icons using Reshacker or installing UXtheme.exe patcher.

Have you USED either of those recently?

In the end I had to perform a system restore.

There are some serious advantages of ERUNT vs. System Restore.
Three of them are crucial:
- Using Erunt, you can restore your registry, even, if you can't boot to Windows
- automatic, daily backup
- System Restore doesn't include "hives", and ERUNT does

Windows is less likely to become corrupted than in other versions, it
can still happen, and for these cases NT is simply missing an option
for easy registry backup and restore as there is in Windows 9x/Me, to
get the system up and running again in no time.

In 2001, as Windows XP began to come pre-installed on many new home
user PCs and was likely to become the new Windows STANDARD over the
next years, I decided to write a program which offers the ease-of-use
of Windows 9x/Me ERU by Microsoft (hence the name ERUNT) to backup the
registry, as well as providing an auto-backup capability, for example
at Windows startup.

Or, before installing a new program for testing purposes one could
save the registry with ERUNT, install and test the program, uninstall
it and restore the registry to be 100% sure that no debris is left.

Note: The "Export registry" function in Regedit is USELESS (!) for
making a complete backup of the registry. Neither does it export the
whole registry (for example, no information from the "SECURITY" hive
is saved), nor can the exported file be used later to replace the
current registry with the old one. Instead, if you re-import the file,
it is merged with the current registry without deleting anything that
has been added since the export, leaving you with an absolute mess of
old and new entries.

So why don't you just *** off!

It backs up your registry everytime it CREATES a Restore point.

This is a clean install of Windows XP w/ Service Pack 2 from a Microsoft SELECT cd. The installation is smooth and I have configured everything as needed. I am running sysprep with the following options Use Mini-Setup, and Re-seal. After CLICKING OK I get the error message. I am running ver 2.0 sysprep, any help would be great!

Thanks for the link, I had seen that one before. I WENT ahead and did a clean slate wipe re install from cd and everything worked this time. Weird......... I'm glad you got it all sorted out...

I just noticed this today. I use my computer at work on their domain. McAfee is part of the bundle, so I have to use it.
It updates several times a day and I never really paid attention to it until today. When the update starts, A window comes up with the update progress. Near the top, MAYBE 2 or 3 LINES down I read:
an error OCCURRED DOWNLOADING the file SiteStat xml

I did a Google search for that and I see I'm not the only one to see it, but all of their solutions involved something in the server. I went to our computer admin and asked about it. Since I'm not actually having problems with my machine, he just seemed to act like it was no big deal.

If the person in computer admin acted like it was no big deal & you're not satisfied that they did all they should to help/put your mind at ease, then you should get a second opinion.That was the IT guy! I showed it to my son and he thinks that it's not a necessary file. I don't know. I meant speak to someone in IT management ie the manager? was it the manager you spoke to?

I have a multimedia keyboard (GENIUS kb-16e) which has some nice buttons on the side I would like to simulate a key PRESS [e.g. CTRL+ALT+SHIFT+F1].

The problem is the software that CAME with the keyboard, does not allow the keys to simulate other keys, but rather run executable files.

I was hoping to use SOMETHING like keypress.exe, so I can run a command line of "c:\dirWhereItIs\keypress.exe f1 sca".

I dont want it to start Word, or some lame application that I use once every month. I have to be careful what program I use because I play online games and I cannot have programs running in the BACKGROUND that can do macro functions.

Basically what I am trying to do is to Bind my special key, to emulate another key.

i tried to install the latest version of iTunes and it said that it needed quicktime. itunes runs fine.

i then downloaded quicktime by itself and tried to install and got this message

This is what worked for some people, and worked for me:

I would really like to use this program, but can not get it to run. Other users seem to have had no problems. I have downloaded it, unzipped it, and then click on the application symbol. A dos-looking screen flashes for a fraction of a second and then dissappears and then nothing happens. It seems this should be something simple to FIX, but I search and search and can find no help. Make a directory called "new" or whatever you want...

Double clik the zip file and choose "extract to" and point it to the folder you just created...

When done open a new Explorer window and double clik the .exe to run the setup...This is a command line utility.
Meaning that you'll have to run it from cmd. Go to the start menu and select run. Type cmd and press enter.
Navigate to the folder where you got the utility and type
rs200_decode.exe -h
This will give you the syntax the utility expects.
Note that I have no idea what this utility does and therefore can't tell you how to work it.Thanks so much:

Do you have this music library saved in another folder on your computer, such as the "My Music" folder? If so...you MAY want to try reinstalling MusicMatch and then have the program search for these music files on your computer...be CAREFUL, though. You may not be able to recover the music file library within MusicMatch if you do this. So before you do...give us a little more info, please.

How do you know they're in the Archive file? It they are, try importing from the archive file.

I am trying to back up my address book in Outlook. I know how to find the pst file and according to EVERYTHING I've read there should be a pab or address book file there in the same location. Is there a pab file with Outlook 2003 ? Where is it ? I am not EVEN sure if there is a pab file for the address book. Any help would bew appreciated.

Well, a member of my family sent to me a few PICTURES USING Flikr from Yahoo!
through "Pictures. wmv, Playlist" and opening with Windows Media Player.
No PROBLEM to see the pictures like a slide show.
The problem is : i would like to extract the pictures one by one to put them
the way i use too, that is to put them in my "My pictures" from Microsoft.

p.s. Where you been hiding ? ?Prior----Problems booting, problems shutting down, kept getting boot of the internet, basically a messy hard drive.

It is not a new hard drive. The hard drive was removed and reformatted using a usb connection via another machine.

The disc used is the one that came with the machine. XP Pro service PACK 2.If it is not a SATA drive the only reason for this error message would be a loose cable or disk failure.
Double check your connections and also DLoad and run the HDD manuf. diagnostics to check the health of the drive.It is not a SATA drive, so I will run the manufacturers diagnostics as suggested. Will keep you informed.You didn't answer my 4th question....

I am returning a Dell lease laptop. I would like to be able to move everything from the old laptop to the new one. (yet to be purchased) Is this practical? I have read on this forum about Norton ghost? Is this a good move? also, as I have just lost a HD on another system...I know (why didn't I have it backed up).....what is the best way to keep the entire system backed up in an emergency use...again, is the ghost software (or another utility) the best way? Apps like Norton Ghost or Acronis TrueImage (my PERSONAL pick) move the OS, drivers etc too.
So as you're moving to different hardware, this won't work.
If you want to keep your files intact and transfer them onto a new PC, you can do that on any OS, just drag and DROP onto an external drive or memory stick, or burn to DVD or CD as you prefer.

A program like Ghost or True Image, along with an external hard drive, and/or several DVDs and/or flash memory means you always have a current backup of your entire system - if you lose a hard drive, it doesn't matter, as you just get a new drive and restore the backup, and you're back with all your settings, programs and files just the same as when you backed up.
I like to back up to an external drive once a week or so, to keep things current.Thank you for the speedy response. So, If I am changing to a completely new laptop/pc, then the ghost software will not work? If I want to copy my Windows XP professional over to the new system, will copying eveything off the C Drive accomplish this?

Thank youImage programs such as Acronis True Image create an exact copy of your OS settings programs and all your data exactly as it is when created...
However because of how XP is you cannot move an imaged drive from one machine to another and have it work. This is part of their anti-piracy measures as their policy is one copy ---one machine.
It would still be advisable to do this anyways you just wont be able to image the new machine and have it work,
You would however have access and be able to copy all your important data to the new machine from the backup image which should be burned to CD/DVD.

I would assume the new machine will come with an OS already installed so it would still serve your needs.

Any more questions feel free to ask...

Does that mean then, that other non-Microsoft programs could be copied over in their entire operational state? Say as an example: AD-Aware? (I realize this is real simople to DOWNLOAD, but as an example.) Or say Adobe programs etc.. The one copy rule is for the operating system only; right?

The only way you could do this is to clone the drive as described above, however as stated this copies everything.
Just install your programs again, it's the only way.
patio has a good suggestion however, I suggest you follow that idea rather than my suggestion of backing files up by drag and drop as it's longer.Thank you very much....great assistance!!! I hope I can return the favor someday...One basic thought to keep in mind gator...OS's and programs cannot simply be copied from one hard to another or from one machine to another...they simply will not run.
Programs and operating systems 99% of the time need to be re-installed if you want a machine that runs properly.

Hi, I'm the victim of a slow startup for my file on my computer. I was wondering if someone could help me out with discovering what these cryptic names mean and if i could uncheck them from run*msconfig*startup. I really only want to run my antivirus and firewall and printer. Let me know if you know what any of these things are and if they are safe to disable for startup:
"TAUMON C:PROGRA~1/agnitum/TAUSCA~1.00/TAUMON.exe" i think this is from Tauscan, some security PROGRAM i downloaded when i was a newbie. I've tried almost everything to get rid of anything "tauscan" from my computer, yet it still shows up on my right-click.
"jusched C:/program files/java/jre1.5.0_08/bin/jusched.exe" i'm guessing this is java updates or something, do i really need this?

We really can't decide for you what you want/need in your Startup list, only you can do that.

Go here and enter the name (e.g. ctfmon.exe) in the search box and a description of the file and its PURPOSE, and a recommendation about stopping/retaining the file in the startup list will be displayed.

Good luckjust go to Google and type the process name (Example: igfxpers.exe) and the first result will tell you what the thing is and you can choose if it is important to you or not.
You might have things LIKE MSN /background and other programs that you really don't need on startup.Thanks for the link! i was able to eliminate these from startup ^_^ :

Hint: If you decide to disable any services it's very helpful to print out the Black Viper recommendations.you need ctfmon.exe if you use different languages in MS Office eg English and Spanish.

Good evening all!
I was preparing some music files for my Flash lectures in the tomorrow morning.
But the problem was that when I inserted a blank new CDR into my PC's DVD-RW rom and pressed to start the burning process, the XP system just kept saying the rom didn't have any writtable media inside.
I used the XP built-in CD burning function, because it saved the system resources;
I was stuck at the problem until I tried Nero 6 instead, and the problem got SOLVED completely then.

Why the XP built-in CD burning function couldn't recognize any blank new CDR is still a mystery to me!
Please kindly help?

P.S. I am using XP SP2 Pro.A solution which worked recently on a computer I was INVOLVED with - this one (XP) lost it's optical drives, not quite the same problem I know, but worth a shot ....

In Device Manager remove the secondary IDE controller, reboot and let Windows find it again. Worked a treat on the above m/c where other solutions failed. I am assuming here that your dvd/cd player is attached to the secondary IDE controller and not the primary. You can check this inside the case - if the dvd/cd player is not on the same ribbon cable as the hard drive, it's on the secondary controller.

Gluck Tony In XP there is an obscure switch for BURNERS that has to be enabled...i believe it's thru Control Panel/System?Hardware/Device Manager...right clik the drive and check "allow burn functions for this device" or something silly like that.

I caught a VIRUS. Took my comp to a comp shop and they wiped out my hard drive. The shop installed a new windows xp. the virus is gone, but when i INSTALL my bluetooth adapter and webcam software my web browser doesn't work. i have to do a system restore to get my browser to work again. any suggestions?The shop may have neglected to re-install the MBoard drivers which means XP is substituting generic ones for your devices.

am using compaq with 256 RAm and 40 GB and WINDOWS xp operating system, when booting my computer i recently got a message say my ntldr is missing and to restart i need to press ctr+alt+del, after doing that several times and no help i decisided to boot from the cd rom using a windows xp 2006 version, however the computer installed the windows 2006 version so on booting i could not get my data and other software packages i had installed ealry like norton, encarta, my music my document folder is empty while perivous it had all my research work, how can i retreive back this lost data and lost software? is it really lost or is there still hope of getting it back??? please Help *sigh.....

TRY this.I have the same problem, ntldr not found..... If you turn your computer of and turn it back on real quick it just skips that screen for me.... dont ask me why lol TestDisk is a partition/ fat recovery TOOL. It may not be suited for data recovery after a clean install.
Chances are without paying big bucks to a data recovery service you won't see that data anytime soon...i'm not too sure about that.

i personally haven't tried testdisk to try and recover lost data.

however, i read in another post started by someone who had lost a whole BUNCH of photos after a re-format, that he USED testdisk and recovered 90% of the data free.

So I have an unusual issue...

Back story - We use a 3rd party for our email, but CHECK said email with Outlook Express and Outlook 2003. We added a new person to our 3rd party email and setup Outlook 2003 with the account. Now on that Outlook client there are 3 email accounts from the same 3rd party email service.

Current issue - When sending an email to this new person an immediate blank reply is returned. So if I SENT her a message with the subject: test. I would get a blank body email with the subject: Re:Test.

Things tried so far - Tried repairing her install of Outlook 2003. Looked for any option that would be an auto reply, but she does not seem to have it. Also, the out of office assistant is not enabled because we are not running an exchange server. I also tried CALLING our email hosting company but I had to leave a voice mail.

Any thoughts? Sorry just to clarify, when your sending an email, the subject text sends... but whatever you have typed below does not COME threw?

When I send the email through the client. The new person Carrie will receive the email with no problems. (Full text, subject line, etc.) But its like her account (maybe outlook?) will automatically reply. Same subject line, but the reply email's body is blank.Spero-T you don't need to dig into it. Our third party mail service offers an auto reply option only available if you login through the web interface. So after logging in through the web interface I was able to set the option to "No Reply" and so far it seems like the issue is solved.

Mistakenly I thought it was an Outlook issue. I read somewhere else on the internet about a similar issue and that individual called their 3rd party email support and was told the issue was on their end.

I have an unusual problem. For the LAST few months, when I receive a REPLY from someone using bellsouth.net as their email server, I only receive from them what I sent them. Their reply doesn't come through. I know it isn't the email server, because a COUPLE of TIMES I have checked my email on the web before downloading it into Outlook, and the reply is there. But when I get to my computer and download my email, all I get from them is my original message. This problem only occurs with replies, because these same people have sent me EMAILS with no problem. I am using Microsoft Outlook 2003. Any suggestions?

I have outlook 2003 and basically had some TROUBLE after a computer format. It initially retrieved all of my MESSAGES from my INBOX and through a SERIES of events that is far to lengthy to get into, they were all DELETED. How do i retrieve them again. All of the messages are still on the server, but even if i mark them all as new, Outlook will not download them. Any suggestions?

My computer is connected to the internet and I can download programs but if I try to use the program that needs to access the internet I get errors saying that the internet is not connected or the program cannot COMMUNICATE with the internet?!!!!

I'm trying to use mencoder to make an AVI file out of MANY TGA files. DUE to the nature of TGA "compression", they're pretty *censored* huge, and in very large amounts (25000 +). So while I'm encoding this AVI, I'm wondering if there are any switches to remove the TGA files as soon as they are PROCESSED, to SAVE on disk space and reduce CLUTTER. Anyone know of some switch like this?

My PC is running XP Pro.
I had it built by a local computer shop.
It came with evaluation copies of WinZip and WinRar compression programs pre-installed.
As XP has a compression utility, I decided to use this.
According to the XP help files, the "Create Compressed Folder" OPTION is removed from the File menu and Right Click menu when a third party compression program is installed.
I have uninstalled WinZip and WinRar and rebooted but the "Create Compressed Folder" still does not appear.

I have discovered a work around on CH000808 where I can create a compressed folder by using Send To + Compressed Folder. However, when I do this I get a popup window each time (see attachment).

Does ANYONE know how I can get the New-Compressed Folder option to show?

In any case, I had picked up that command from another help forum and it didn't seem to do the trick.
When I run the command I get a confirmation popup (see attachment) but the option is still not appearing.

You could try DLoading and installing CCleaner and run it to remove any remnants of those 2 programs and then run contrex's fix above again.
Re-boot after running it and check the right clik menu...I used the Winzip uninstall utility to uninstall Winzip as I have been led to believe that it the best option when available

GOOGLE has tons of INFO on it.proxy.org for a list of them as well.A proxy server is a GATEWAY forwarding requests from clients to other servers, sometimes modified, some TIMES not. It can be used for hiding an IP but have a lot of other possible uses. Filters that performs content censoring is usually run on a proxy for example.

I was working on Excel and when I logged on later it was a read-only FILE. I had kept a copy of how to fix from the last time, but then I had Windows xp and now it's Vista and the Start menu, point to Programs, point to Accessories is not the true instructions. I did the F1 key on excel and it says to SAVE AS and then TOOLS and those TWO do not follow each other.
