Solve : Print spooler service not running?

Answer»

For no apparent reason the printer suddenly stopped accepting print command and brought up the above subject. None of the trouble shooting topics seems todeal wiith this problem. If someonee can help, the quicker the better. I need to SEND out checks.
Based on my experiences with regards to printer, printer spooling, and other stuff regarding printers...

Here would be my solutions:

1. If you really believe that you had the compatible driver for your device in that specific OS then you might have to check the printer cable... There are printer cable that seems to be in a very good condition yet it is no longer functional, meaning defective... But before doing so, check the printer cable if they are loosed... or just yet try to print something then tighten the connection between the CPU and the printer... i hope it would help...

2. If the printer cable is not defective and you had the most compatible driver for the printer device in that specific OS, why not try to check the memory of your printer, as well as the memory of your CPU? There might be not enough memory to perform the task... There are in some cases that no INDICATIONS would pop-up if it lacks memory...

3. If in case the two reasons above didn't help at all... maybe by being more specific with giving the situation and condition would help us understand the trouble you are in to...I am also having a similar problem, my old printer quit working so I bought a new one and it's a Lexmark X1185 printer with scanner and a copier. It turns out that it still won't WORK. I bought a new USB cable thinking the old cable may not work and that didn't help anything. When I try to install the printer it says "No Printer Attached". It thinks that there is no printer there. If I restart WINDOWS XP nothing pops up about the printer or anything. I cannot seem to GET it to install.

Roxio has nothing to do with your resolution. It is CD copying software.

Solve : Hard Drive?

Answer»

Thanks for this service.
I have a HP-Pavilion 6630, 64MB,10.2GB HARD drive, Win.98.
For some time up at start-up I would get message
"operating system not found"
Tapping on TOP of box and restarting 5-6 times it would
open Win. 98.
To avoid this I left it on. We had a power outage and I
have been unable to restart.
When I try to install HP recovery disk it aborts.
In my BIOS Setup Utility it shows:
Primary Master--NONE
Primary Slave --NONE
Secondary Master--[CD-ROM]
Secondary Slave None
Any suggestions, or is my hard drive ca-put ??
Thanks for the replys,
GaryObtain a diagnostic tool from your HDD's manufacturer website.

"Tapping" your PC to make it work is never a good idea..Raptor,
Thanks for the reply,I do understand that tapping on
the computer is NOT in the owners manual, but us folks in flyover COUNTRY work with what works, until it don't work!
It's like turning the rabbit ears or putting tinfoil on then
for better reception.
Ha,Ha-Anyway thanks again and I'll explore your suggestions.
This is a great site!
Thanks,
GaryWhen I replace the hard drive in my coumpter will
I have to buy a windows program, or can
I reinstall with the recover disk that came with it
when it was new?I take it your Hard Disk Drive is failing?

It may depend on the kind of Recovery disk that was given with your PC - I have no experience with these. I'd prefer a fully FUNCTIONAL OS over a Recovery Disk. The recovery disk would probably work, but just make sure that your processor has not changed since you got the computer, becuase computer companies require you to use a certain processor before you can use the recovery disk(s) on your computer. They do this so that you don't give the disk or disks to a friend with a Gateway computer, and have him or her get a FREE OS. Also, you should put in the disk that has the OS in it first, becuase there is nothing on that old HD for it to recover.

[glb]Flame[/glb]raptor i've been reading some of your responces to other computer friends like me so now i have a question for you. so here it is i bought a ibm thinkpad 380z at a yard sale for a small price i have run every diagnostic test i can think of . in the command prompt mode it tells me no drives found after i fdisk it , it says no fixed disks found and if i format it,it says no drives found i guess the only conclusion is the hard drive is completely gone do you know where i can get one that won't cost me an arm and a leg or do you know someone who has one and wants to sell it cheap if you can help contact me thanks for your timeIf you can, check the connections to the HDD. Perhaps they have become loose or need replacing.

As for a cheap HDD.. Depends on where you're from? I'd try Ebay or a similair website.

Solve : Cannot download any driver (literally)?

Answer»

So, I have Sony VAIO model sve14aa11w .A few years ago, I broke my screen so I sent it to repairs shop . But when I got it back, it wasn’t the same as before and there were problems which I will tell you in the following . I neglected those problems( for years ) because I was fine with it and I didn’t have to USE the PC that much . But now it’s different . I have to make a use of it .
The original OS is Windows 7 Home Premium OA SEA
Manufacturer = Sony CORPORATION
Product Name = SVE14A15FHW
Current windows version = windows 7

Here are the problems - My computer has no original driver installed. Therefore , I cannot use Device Manager. Since whenever I clicked on the device manger , it said “ Class not registered”. But I’m not really sure it happened because of the no driver installed.

So I tried to download the original driver and the link I tried to download from is this —>https://www.sony.co.th/en/electronics/support/sve-series-sve14a1-series/sve14a15fh/downloads/Y0008170

But I cannot download it Because the internet explorer from my computer won’t download it . It’s confusing coz it will download other files but whenever it comes to this , it won’t even budge. Like no matter how much I clicked on the download button, it won’t do a thing at all . The web page just stayed like before . And the same goes to Firefox .
My current internet explorer is version 8. I know there’s version 11 but even with that version , it still won’t downlaod the original driver file . So , I thought maybe the anti virus programs caused it and removed all of them , even from the control panel . But still , it won’t download .
I also went to safe mode and tried it again but still failed

And I also went on and downloaded Minitoolbox to find the problems . And it showed the device name “ Bluetooth Peripheral Device “ and it showed its problems and resolution.
Problem: :The drivers for this device are not installed. (Code 28)
Resolution: To install the drivers for this device, click "Update Driver", which starts the Hardware Update Wizard.
BUT in order to do that , I have to go to device manager , which still shows “ class not registered “

So, I’m very confused right now
Is internet explorer the real problem ? Or is it the device manager one ? Or should I just send it back to the repairs shop ?I hope you have another computer for this because you will need it, or at least the ability to use someone elses computer.

What you want to do is go to https://sdi-tool.org on another computer and download SDI Lite, since I assume you have working internet on that laptop you are talking about. Put the file onto a usb stick or storage medium and them transfer it over to your laptop. Once you run it from your laptop the program will show you all of the drivers you need. There should be an OPTION towards the to that says create a restore point. Click on that and then check all of the boxes for drivers to be installed. Keep your computer on and do not turn it off while the download and install process is taking place, that could really brick your laptop. Plug your laptop to its charger and let it download away. Once it is finished you can simply restart your laptop, and everything should WORK fine. If you somehow cannot connect to the internet or the downloading forsn't work, then you might have to download the full version of SDI.

Hope this helps!
AnthonyYou need to perform a Repair installation. This would involve getting access to a Windows 7 DVD. Device Manager being inaccessible isn't related to missing driver software- it's a corrupted Windows install.

The Sony website is very poorly designed when it comes to drivers, I THINK. I don't think the download button works properly. I was able to eventually download it and I've re-hosted a download here of that file. However, while that might fix the driver problems, I'd be concerned about the sort of corruption that would result in the Device Manager problems however as that is a corrupted Windows install.

Solve : Incompatible Keyboard drivers??

Answer»

On the host (W7prof64) the keyboard layout is "GERMAN (Swiss)", but the guest (WXPprof64) has a different (unknown) layout.

Drivers installed on HOST are SHOWN in attached "Host kbd.png"
under -> Details
-> Property: In English something like "Device description"
-> Value: In English something like "Standard keyboard (PS/2)"

Driver installed on GUEST is shown in attached "Guest kbd.png"

I would very much appreciate, if someone could PLEASE provide some help on how to possibly attain on the guest the same keyboard layout as on the host, NAMELY "German (Swiss)".

Thanks and regards.
METsenIf you want the German/Swiss layout on Windows XP, you need to actually install the German/Swiss release of Windows XP.The problem occured after setting up the system on a new HARDDISK using the same installation CDs for host and guest as before. Two years ago the installation caused no problems. I presume that some W7 updates cause this time the problem.

Solve : Computer Upgrades and Win7 Driver Support?

Answer»

I've been eyeing up the new i9 9900K as a likely candidate for an upgrade path for my aging FX-8350 (I'm 90% sure that these are the same socket j/k). At present I'm pretty sure that this is the path that I'll take but I still use Windows 7. What sort of driver headaches and loss of function am I/might I be going to see?

On a side note do you agree with my selected CPU? Would you choose a thread ripper instead?

I'm not sure if this fits under the driver topic or hardware topic, so moderators I will not be offended if this thread gets moved.

Hi

Well first off your current motherboard will not take a Intel Core i9-9900K. So you would need a new motherboard and memory.
Newer motherboards are dropping Windows 7 driver support so you will not be ABLE to run windows 7 .
I wonder why you need to upgrade? What are the other components in the system?
Perhaps there is other parts of your present system you could upgrade. Quote from: Accessless on December 03, 2018, 08:01:09 PM

It's my profile PC and other than a new graphics card there is nothing more to be done, new build time. A new graphics card is also planned but nothing BEYOND a GTX 1070Ti so no driver issues there.

What I really want to know is any info from anyone else who has already hit this wall. I realise that I can't Win7 forever but I would rather go back to DOS than have to use Win10

Fun fact: Windows 7 is actually Windows 6.1 and Windows 10 is 7 by version number.Quote
Newer motherboards are dropping Windows 7 driver support so you will not be able to run windows 7 .

Keep in mind this is a broad ASSUMPTION...

P.S. Until you select the MBoard we cam't say either way...Forgetting the Driver issue there is a few other issues which are driver independent.

Have a look here https://support.microsoft.com/en-gb/help/4012982/the-processor-is-not-supported-together-with-the-windows-version-that

Also if you have a windows 7 OEM version you won't be able to transfer the licence to a new machine.

If you want to have a STABLE platform, I would look at getting a 6th generation Intel CPU like the i7 7700 with a compatible motherboard maybe a Asus PRIME B250M-A. You will also need new ram. You are scare-mongering...for what reasons i have no idea...Just trying to explain some of the problems Accessless may face if they upgrade with the I9 or Thread ripper. I think it was what was asked by Quote from: Accessless on December 03, 2018, 08:01:09 PM

So if what i have said is "scare-mongering" I apologize.

Just to add some info here.

Microsoft dropped support for Windows 7 and 8.1 early for some more recent Processors. Effectively the way this was done was such that if Windows Update detects a later model CPU, Windows Update will block all updates and will give you a dialog that encourages you to upgrade to Windows 10.

This issue can be bypassed, however- You see, Windows Update didn't come with that FEATURE- it was part of it's own separate update. One can uninstall and block KB4012218 and KB4012219 which added this feature to Windows Update and Windows 7 will continue to receive updates even on unsupported processors.

There is also tooling to automate this on Windows 7 and 8.1, found here, which works with said update installed. It effectively patches things so that the cached result that is used to check for CPU Support is always true. This lets you install all the updates that come out as if you had an earlier model "supported" processor.

Of course, one cannot expect any help from MS if you have issues.Quote

That can be said for Win 10 as well... Asus PRIME Z370-A

I have bought the graphics card for now, will see how I go on just that.Yes better go with windows 10, windows 7 & 8 support will be drop and windows 10 will stay alive and will continuously be supported, MS say windows 10 will be the last OS they will produce and as long there's a user of it they will continue to support, and that i9 is a beast you should go for that good luck. The CPU might have been a mistake. I'm waiting to see what the new 7nm Ryzen 3 has to offer (Ryzen 3000). At least with the new graphics card I don't have to crank my resolution down to 1280x720 (720p).

Solve : Currupt Audio Drivers?

Answer»

Hi guys, I've encountered a new and bizarre PROBLEM that's vexing me.

Every couple of months I get the issue of audio stuttering (also causes visuals to stutter with audio). I initially had this a while ago and to cut a long story short it turned out to be caused by a corrupt audio driver. Delete, reboot, re-install, fixed... or so I thought.

The issue keeps coming BACK after a few months. It's a 5 minute fix but why does this driver keep corrupting? I have no other data or driver issues, no driver updates (it's an old MOBO, the latest driver is from 2015) & all memory checks out fine (RAM + HDD)

Frankly I'm at a lose. From what you stated i wold suspect the hardware rather than the drivers...I know right!?

But why does the driver re-install fix it?Ok, it has been some time since the last blip but I had a thought with this latest one. Re-installing the audio drivers alone does not resolve the problem. The only way to fix the problem is to uninstall drivers, restart then re-install.

My suspicion now is that Windows itself periodically alters something that causes the breakdown. The problem also only occurs after the system has been switched off or rebooted, it doesn't develop spontaneously.Quote from: patio on October 19, 2018, 02:17:24 PM

I agree with Patio.
A hardy TOOL to have in you toolbox is a USB audio device. They are cheap and work GOOD enough for watching movies.
Search for "USB 2.0 External Stereo Audio Adapter" from your favorite vendor

I think Windows 10 will have no issue with it. Quote from: Geek-9pm on December 21, 2018, 11:12:01 AM

That is awesome and perfect, although hopefully it wont short out my USB's like the keyboard and mouse do if plugged into the wrong ports for some reason.

You know, I think that I might have to upgrade if not just to replace my wonky motherboard.why are you havin USB shorts ? ? must be a carp MBoard...

Solve : Hard Drive recovery?

Answer»

Hey there!

new to the SITE, but had some questions about an old laptop of mine that had died a few YEARS ago. i kept it because i wanted to get everything off the hard drive but since starting to research how to do so, ive REALIZED it may not work so i figured id ask.

so what originally happened was something fell on the computer a broke the screen. i hadnt touched it in a year or so before realizing i could use my tv as the screen. TA-DA LAPTOP WAS BACK....but only for a SHORT time before the screen when blue and the laptop refused to turn on after that. does that mean the hard drive is toast? i really hope not, there was so many pictures and songs i wanted to transfer.

TIA
DevonAssuming the laptop is new enough that it is a SATA type Hard Drive, I would get an empty 2.5" external hard drive enclosure kit and carefully extract the drive from the laptop and install it into this enclosure. Once the hard drive is in this enclosure and power and communication plugs ( usually a single connection to a small PCB ) you can connect to the hard drive from a healthy computer by use of a USB cable that should come with the external hard drive enclosure. If the hard drive is healthy you should then have access to all data on it. However the hard drive could be partially damaged causing the OS to fail to boot on it but your personal data could be just fine on it to copy to a healthy hard drive or to a cloud storage online such as GOOGLE Drive which gives 15GB storage for free to people with a gmail account.

If the laptop is much older you will see gold pins at the back of the drive and then you would need to get an external 2.5" enclosure for a Mobile Drive IDE connection. So if you remove the drive and no 2 rows of gold pins means you will need a SATA type enclosure so its best to extract the drive before you buy the enclosure to make sure your getting the correct one or look up the make/model laptop and look at specs for hard drive that is installed which it should say SATA or IDE to indicate which enclosure you will need.thank you so much! i was able to extract the drive from the laptop, now just waiting for the adapter kit to come in so i can check the files with my working laptop. much appreciated!

Solve : Display stuck in unsupported mode?

Answer»

Hello, I tried to set my display settings to the highest setting (1920X**?) and now it is stuck in unsupported mode. I get a blue screen with a text box saying Unsupported Mode that moves around the screen.
I am running Windows 7 Ultimate on a home built machine. My video card is a Radeon 5470 HD.
I am able to start my computer in safe mode however, I cannot open Catalyst Control Center while in safe mode.
A search of this forum and a Google search have turned up nothing EXCEPT one suggestion to set it to a supported resolution and restart which is impossible since all that is visible is the floating text box.You can restart in safe mode, Right?
Here are two methods to workaround your problem.
1. ) Create a new user in Safe mode, log into the new user. Reset and start in the New user. After that, come back he for more HELP if needed.
OR
2. ) Remove all video drivers and install again.

Ok, I created another account but I am unable to boot into the regular OS with either account, only Safe Mode. I had set my original account to log in automatically so I did the controluserpasswords2 thing and checked it to REQUIRE a password thinking that I may be able to ACCESS my original account that way since I remember my old password. Wrong. It will allow me to select an account but it still boots to a blue screen with floating text box.
I used Win key+Pause|Break and brought up Device Manager thinking I could go ahead and uninstall the driver. Wrong. Just in case ... I DID find it in Device Manager and have chosen to uninstall the driver. Crossing my fingers and knocking on wood (my head)! Time for reboot ...YAYYY! SUCCESS!! I am back in regular mode, will reinstall driver later. Have a great DAY !Scratch that .... I WAS , however, able to salvage everything I wanted to save so I am just going to do a clean install of W7. Have a great day/morning/afternoon.Seems a drastic move just to get your video drivers/settings back in order...but Best of Luck...I had set my original account to log in automatically so I did the controluserpasswords2 thing and checked it to require a password thinking that I may be able to access my original account that way since I remember my old password. Wrong. It will allow me to select an account but it still boots to a blue screen with floating text box.You should start a new Post for your issue so it recieves the proper attention...

Solve : Nvidia Driver Crash?

Answer»

Hi,
I have an ALIENWARE laptop, specifically the M17X R3, that has an Nvidia driver problem. The laptop has Nvidia Optimus switchable graphics with Intel and a GEFORCE GTX 560M. The driver problem I am having gives me a BSOD whenever I use the 560M. The cause of the BSOD is the driver "nvlddmkm.sys". I am not sure what to do at this POINT as I have reinstalled Windows 7 multiple times and every time reinstalled the drivers in the proper order. I am currently typing this on the computer with the Intel graphics.
Thank you so much,
Asher

(the BSOD dump file is ATTACHED)nvlddmkm.sys is what it said on the actual bluescreen.

Solve : Cloning my HDD to my SSD?

Answer»

I'm kind of knew to building computers so I had a question that may or may not sound stupid. So I currently have a desktop with a HDD and I want to INSTALL an SSD instead and then remove the HDD. I'm going to clone my HDD into my SDD and then after, I'll be removing my HDD. So only my SSD will be installed. My question is, If i remove my HDD and install my SSD then later on in the future something happens to my SSD, assuming I didnt wipe or clear my HDD, Could I then remove my SSD and install my HDD; with no problems? SEEING as Ill still have my OS installed in the HDD. BASICALLY I want to use my HDD as a backup and want to make sure that in case my SSD fails, I could simply remove my SSD and install my HDD with no issues. Thanks in advance.Yes...If its a desktop computer, I would suggest leaving the HDD installed in the computer but both the power and data cable disconnected inside.

My daily use computer started off as running off an old 500GB Maxtor hard drive. I then installed a SSD leaving the HDD installed but disconnected. Recently I picked up a project I had been working on that I thought I copied to my external hard drive but it must not have been copied over as I had thought. I was able to shut down my computer. Move the power and data cable from my SSD to my HDD and boot my system as if it was running the old build. I then was able to get the project I was working on copied over to the external and then shut it down and swap the power and data cable back to the SSD and CLOSE the case and pick up where I left off with a project.

In the past I have removed hard drives and written on them with a sharpie marker and stored them for emergency use. However being loose they have either gotten buried among other parts, relocated and lost, or when in a pinch I have grabbed the hard drive and used them formatting them and then losing my original build in the process. As well as one Big Foot 5.25" IDE 4.3 GB hard drive fell off my wire rack and landed on the floor damaging the drive. This drive was one that went to my Windows 98 box that I play old games on. Fortunately no critical data on this drive as for it had been backed up to a single DVD-R but it was a shame that that drive was destroyed falling. It was losing that drive like that that caused me to make better use of the additional drive bays inside desktop computers to leave drives paired with their cases.

If the computer is a laptop cloning usually requires a USB/SATA docking station to clone the build from drive to drive. I bought a drive duplicator that also acts as an external hard drive dock which 2 drives can be placed into it and data cloned from one to another or it can be used with 2 drives in it for external hard drive use in the A and B slot. This cost me $50 and it has been useful for cloning my Windows 7 build. Only trick after cloning is that if the drive capacity is different between the two drives you may have to shrink or expand the partition SIZE to fit the destination as well as make best use of the destination capacity once cloned through partition resizing.

Solve : PC Freezing ... various errors .. gpu / driver related?

Answer»

Hi all, for months now I've been having an ISSUE with my system, and have now decided to starting thinking about seeking refuge on all pc troubleshooting forums

Firstly, let me BEGIN with my system specs (i built my system, its about 1.5 years old now, all new parts):

CPU: i5 - 7500

GPU: GTX 1060 6GB

GPU DRIVER VERSION: 419.67

MOBO: Asus ROG Strix B250F Gaming

RAM: 2 * 8 GB DDR4 2400 MHZ

PSU: BeQuiet! Pure Power 10 (600W)

MONITOR: AOC G2460V @ 75 Hz , 1080P

So some context on the issue ...

My PC will freeze at least once per use time, in which I am forced to force shutdown the system. This can be when playing games, but this mainly occurs whilst browsing the web and doing anything else (i really hope it doesnt crash whilst im typing this, better cntrl c cntrl v into notepad real quick.). Anyway, just before the computer freezes, my system will go into a complete slow down, like everything is running at 1fps, like moving my cursor on screen is very slow, and after a few seconds of this the system just freezes and I have to hard reboot. In rare instances, once the system has froze, i can hear a loud buzzing noise coming from my headphones, and in extremely rare cases the system will come back to life and resume as normal.

Once I have hard rebooted I always go check event viewer, and i always get 1 of / or even all of the following errors :

- display driver nvlddmkm stopped responding and has successfully recovered. (not too often, only get this if the display freezes but then recovers)

- The application-specific permission settings do not grant Local Activation permission for the COM Server application with CLSID {2593F8B9-4EAF-457C-B68A-50F6B8EA6B54} and APPID {15C20B67-12E7-4BB6-92BB-7AFF07997402} (THIS IS SPAMMED THROUGHOUT EVENT VIEWER AND I GET MULTIPLE OF THESE MINUTES BEFORE THE CRASH)

- Application " ... " has been blocked from accessing the graphics hardware.

- I also get this error, however i dont think its the cause (The driver \Driver\WUDFRd failed to load for the DEVICE USB\VID_05AC&PID_12A7\fa40e6584547cdb825c02fe637bd4eba85821f25.)

WHAT I'VE TRIED :

- WIPING display drivers (with ddu) and downgrading to driver 397.93 as suggested by a known member on the nvidia forums (find post here: https://forums.geforce.com/default/topic/1101770/geforce-drivers/pc-freezing-various-error-codes/)

- set tdr delay in the registry

- run memtest ---- memory fine

- turn "link state power management" in power options to off
- set gpu to "prefer maximum performance" in nvidia control panel
- have run the system file check and chkdsk commands in cmd no violations
- set power plan to high performance

I've probably tried several other things that i just cant remember. I want to try to avoid having to reinstall windows, but if there is no other solutions then i suppose i will have to ; ((

Anyway, thats about it. Hopefully someone can lend a hand, i'd really appreciate it.

CheersI'd check the hard drive or SSD health. Or if you have a spare drive available. Swap out the drive and build fresh to that and load up the same drivers and see if this corrects it.

Hard drives and SSD's use virtual memory to assist the RAM and if you have a drive that is acting up it can cause issues like you have.

Solve : graphics drivers on my laptop, argh!?

Answer»

okay, i don't know anything at all, use simple WORDS, nothing beyond third GRADE reading level, okay?

sometimes my graphics mess up and I cannot PLAY any of my games and such, i have to uninstall and reinstall my graphics drivers, it's kind of a pain.

i TRIED to dl the drivers from ATi but they don't give them out for laptops (mine, a HP pavilion ze5607wm if you need to know) and went to HP's website and dl'd a lot of stuff, including what display drivers they had. installed and restarted everything, but still cannot play my games.

what should I do?Properly remove the drivers by using a program such as Driver Cleaner and reinstall the latest drivers.

Scan for SPYWARE, Viruses and Trojan Horses as well.

Be certain to follow the instructions!

Solve : Graphics drivers?

Answer»

what else is needed
computer just crashes now so have to install new os Drastic move for bad/missing drivers but good luck and keep us posted. What else is needed is the full Speccy report which would tell me 10 times more than the screens shoots you posted. Also I can copy and paste information more accurately from the report into google to verify diagnoses. Like checking the bios and mother board version required retyping the motherboard model and bios version into google.
It could be that the hard drive has issues which i would have known 2 days ago when i asked for the speccy report. You are making this to complicated. I had a look at the report it didn't look like it had much information , I'll post it up after installing windows, had to do install because it was not booting or the windows auto repair wasn't working Summary

Generated with Speccy v1.32.740so tried install of drivers on new os , as it was installing the driver the screen tries to change size blank out then tries to display with new driver but ends in that murky display of colours and then nothing so look like it nearly worked , so I pput a new os and new hddHi Fip

Thanks for the speccy report, I see you haven't loaded the motherboard drivers and are using the Windows 8.1 generic drivers. I suspect you have some devices without drivers in device manager. I see the motherboard drivers from gigabyte stopped at win 7.

P.S Because you decided to copy and paste the report here, instead of posting the link as I asked. The whole world knows the windows key you used.
I posted in another forum and the guy reckons it's a GPU failure since it's an old cardSee above,,,Installed vista and drivers, images

Showing some horizontal lines and then blurDoes the screen have the lines when in the bios or before Windows boots?
If it does it is likely the problem is the monitor. To confirm this try another monitor.

If it's only in windows then it is most likely a faulty card. You can diagnose the card by seeing if the lines change position or disappear when the windows resolution is reduced. If that happens you either have a faulty card or possibly the card is being overclocked. The over clock will show on a speccy report also if you have loaded all the drivers correctly.

Remember for your security!!! only use file, publish report and then copy only the LINK to the report here. The report can then be deleted after the problem is diagnosed. Only starts from the login to windows and yes the lines change if resolution change, lines don't display on VGA driverstook the gpu out got the heat gun on the gpu and ram and put it BACK in , now its working good!

thanks for the help

dont know if that fixed tho

Solve : HELP! please.?

Hey, thanks for coming to check out my post for help. I was wondering if it would be possible to plug in a ATI ALL-IN-WONDER RADEON 9600 128MB DDR AGP Graphics Card into an AGP2 slot (without my computer CRASHING) for my Hp Pavilion a420n desktop pc. I really don't know much about graphics cards and their ports, as you can tell. Any information you could give me would be GREATLY appreciated.

Link to card information here:
http://www.bestbuy.com/site/olspage.jsp?id=1069301366556&skuId=6227861&type=product

Thankyou very much in advance for any information you can give me. I'm really clueless.
Skip Tumahloo.....according to your link to the card ....this what you require.
System Requirements Intel® Pentium® II/III/4/Celeron®, AMD-K6®Athlon™ processor or compatible with AGP 8X/4X slot; Windows 98, 98 SE, 2000, ME or XP; 128MB RAM
You have a AGP slot .........so the card will fit.......however you may wish to check your motherboard to see if it's AGP 8X compatible.....

hope this helps you .

I assume you mean AGP 2X?

Documentation that COMES with the videocard should state with what speeds it is compatible.

You may be BETTER off simply buying a cheap 2X card rather than an 8X card to be certain it is compatible..no U fucker now leav

Solve : CPU Crash from 100% CPU when running games?

Answer»

I've recently had to factory reset my Asus NVIDIA GT 335M because of certain problems. I cannot boot up certain programs due to the fear of the computer crashing (instantly going black and shutting off) due to 100 CPU usage. This happens with OBS and just if i run much at all. However, in the past my pc has been able to run this without crashing just fine. I'm currently debating if it is being caused by the HD nvidia drivers and that MAYBE i may need to roll back, the difference between them as far as i can tell is the NVIDIA Control panel doesnt have an icon when right clicking the desktop.

Specs:

I have no startup programs.
I have an ASUS PC with an NVIDIA GT 335M display driver which i had to reinstall from the ASUS website after factory resetting my computer due to a virus and bluetooth driver problems.
My battery doesn't work, but the problem i'm experiencing caused by a high CPU not battery problems as far as i know.
OS: Windows 7 Home Premium
Version: 6.1.7601 Service Pack 1 Build 7601
System Type: x64-based PC
Processor: Intel® Core ™ i7 CPU Q 720 @1.60Ghz, 1600 Mhz, 4 Core(s), 8 Logical Processor(s)
Installed Pysical Memory (RAM): 8 GB
Total physical Memory: 7.93
Available Physical Memory 6.38
Total Virtual Memory 15.9 GB
Available Virtual Memory 14.0

The display driver i mentioned is running currently 9.18.13.2702 from 8/28/2013 (not the day i installed the driver but the day the driver was MADE)
I tried a factory reset but the problem was still present. All the parts you are listing suggest you are asking about an Asus laptop if so what MODEL ?

Looking at the parts the computer could be 7 or more years old. What maintenance has been done? Like fan replacements or heat sink cleans.

Did you use the Asus recovery software or a generic windows RELOAD?

If you did a generic load are all the drivers loaded no exclamation MARKS in device manager. ?

You could also check the hard drive health with hdtune or hdsentinal both have trial versions.

I used the windows 7 setup since i had no other option. The only device having problems is the Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller which i knew since the guy who gave me this said it had messed up USB ports.

I don't know how much maintenance has been done also the problem doesn't seem heat corrolated because this was not happening a few days ago when it was much hotter, plus, i tried it in the morning when it is pretty cold and it still has the same problem.

Solve : Device Drivers?

Answer»
I found the following errors in my DEVICE Manager

The hardware was not installed because the
wizard cannot find the necessary software.

? Other devices
? Ethernet Controller
? SM Bus Controller
? Video Controller
? Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

Can someone please tell me how I can go about
fixing these errors. I'm using a desktop computer
with Windows XP.

Thanks
I'm guessing this is a new INSTALL? You need to go to the website of the computer manufacturer and download and install the chipset driver.Like ALLAN said, the best course of action would be to visit your manufacturer's website and look for your device drivers there. However, there is a PROGRAM called that is 100% free and it works very well. It will automatically install all of your drivers, and EVEN update old ones if needed. I'll put a link here:. I would download the Lite version, as you probably are not going to use this tool on other computers multiple times.

Hope it helps!

Solve : cannot install broadcom Wireless driver for Asus g75vx win 10?

Answer»

Basically I have to do this through my phone because I cannot install the wireless driver on my computer for some reason I keep getting an error I cannot roll back my computer because my restore POINTS disappeared and my computer is acting a bit weird I did the sfc scan now and it said everything was fine in my ethernet port is damaged so I can't connect to the internet that WAY I can only transfer things from my phone to my computer

Error Update.cpp 829 has occurred and setup cannot continue.

When trying to install the broadcom wireless adapter that comes from the download page of the Asus g75vx download page

And under the device manager network controller and Qualcomm atheros ethernet controller have a yellow caution triangle thingy I don't know how to fix this I've tried everything I cannot find anything about this error.

My windows version is Windows 10 home 64-bit 8 gigs of RAM Intel Core i7 2.40 GHz

I forgot to add that I UNINSTALLED them with Device Manager and then I tried to get rid of the rest using Revo uninstaller cuz I was having issues and I was going to try to reinstall and fix it but it brokeI forgot to add the version number it is 1803 build 17134.677Either laptop or desktop you do NOT wanna go to broadcom for the drivers....they need to come from the MBoard/laptop manuf. site.
Hi

There was problems with some Broadcom chipset drivers in windows 10 . Also your laptop doesn't have Windows 10 drivers. If there is NO other devices showing as having problems in device manager. Then an idea is to PURCHASE a usb wifi adapter which has win 10 support. This is what i suggest.
TP-Link TL-WN725N N150 Nano USB Wi-Fi Adapter buy new stock, as earlier versions may not support windows 10.

Solve : Specific failure of Phoenix on Win 10 install?

Answer»

Hi,

I've made legacy bootable INSTALLATION pendrive for Windows 10, 64 bit. It wouldn't boot on my Samsung 439 laptop. No error message, just no OS is found; my laptop poses a while then moves on and boots from the HDD.

Nonetheless:
This pendrive does boot on another computer;
I can boot all other programs, including Windows 8.1, 64 bit installation on my laptop.

My BIOS is Phoenix SecureCore(tm) NB Version 06UY.M002.20100719.XW, the other computer that booted it showed Bios 4, 5, 6.

How can I install Windows 10 on this laptop?

Thanks a lot.Hi George,

I would install windows 10 from the setup on the pen drive from WITHIN the current version of windows. It will still offer to delete all the files and windows but won't need to boot from the pen drive.
** I would do a full backup first as I don't think you will get windows 10 running on the Laptop properly and may need to go back to Windows 7. I WONDER when you get Windows 10 loaded where you are going to get the drivers. I seems the driver support was only to Windows 7 for your laptop.**

Also does the pen drive show up in the hard drive group in the boot menu or are you selecting usb hard drive/ usb dvd to boot from. It is more likely to work from the Hard drive group.
You haven't checked it booting on another computer perhaps it would be a good idea to do this to the point of where you select the install location.
I take it the laptop is in good condition i.e the memory tests out ok and the hard drive is error free, you don't say if it loads the original windows properly, hence why I ask.

Hi Lisa_maree,

Yes, I've TRIED to install from the running Windows 8.1. It starts fine and does everything until it is to reboot, but that's the end of it.

I also tried this pendrive on another computer, boots and starts like an Angel.

My laptop is in good shape, can run Windows 8.1.

I think you are right, the issue is with some device driver, I 'only' need to find which, and if that device has driver for Windows 10 or for Windows 8.1 only.Hi George

Your Samsung laptop does not have driver support for Windows 10. Load something like classic shell on windows 8.1 for a look and feel like windows 7.
I think that is your only option.

Hi Lisa_maree,

I've been advised that only my WIFI card was in conflict with Windows 10. I removed this card and installed with no problem.

Solve : Black Screen; No Keyboard or Mouse RESPONSE?

Answer»

So I tried to update all my drivers this weekend but when I got to to the Intel CPU driver update and restarted my computer, it would no longer show anything on any of my displays and the keyboard and mouse are unresponsive so I can't put it safe mode to reset. I've cleaned, reseated and reconnected all components and wiring but it still just shows a black screen and the keyboard/mouse remain unresponsive. Everything was working fine before I tried to update it so I know it's not a faulty hardware and I've tried everything in my wheelhouse to fix it but all I've gotten it to do is show a black screen.
GPU: RX 580
CPU: Intel i3
Motherboard: GA-H110m-S2HIf the computer still has a PS2 port for keyboard, you can interrupt the boot and get into safemode if its just a driver issue at boot because PS2 support is ready to run prior to USB connectivity on some computers. If your computer doesnt have legacy support for a PS2 connection you will have to interrupt it with a bootable device like a bootable flash drive or a bootable CD or DVD that would give you access to Mouse/Keyboard use via USB connectivity and then repair the issue that you have going on from an ALTERNATELY loaded OS.

Do you have the system recovery media that can be created after purchase of a prebuilt computer? If you have this you can boot the media and perform a recovery that keeps your existing data or blows away all data and installs back to a clean state. *Note: If this computer was originally Windows 7, 8, or 8.1 and the driver issue OCCURRED after an upgrade to Windows 10 you may have to install the original OS and then perform the upgrade again to 10 and then avoid the driver update that caused the crash condition.

I have an older LAPTOP for example that will run fine on clean build of Windows 10 which originally was sold with Windows 7 and the touchpad driver that the system wants to update via a later Windows update causes the keyboard to type wrong keystrokes. I have since had to roll back to Windows 7 with it because there is no Windows 10 compatible driver for the touchpad and the fixes online dont help. Additionally if a USB keyboard is attached to my laptop it still types all wrong due to touchpad driver issue. Why would you update a CPU driver ? ?...Were these "driver updates" from a 3rd party app ? ?
Was there any other changes apart from the drivers ? Like a CPU swap ?

These are the steps i would take. testing after each step.
REMOVE the RX580 card and try with on BOARD graphics if this works OK then it's not the CPU, motherboard or memory. Windows should still boot using on board graphics.
If still no display or keyboard lights using onboard graphics then it is likely memory, check this is the correct memory and try removing and inserting the memory 3 or 4 times to clean the contacts. Also check the CPU heat sink is mounted correctly.
Then try resetting the cmos setup as explained below :

If the computer still isn't booting can you post some pictures of the system as well as the power supply label
Thank you

Solve : Second monitor not detected?

Answer»

Hi,

I'm trying to set up 2 monitors for expanded screen (of the same brand; iiyama), but when I go to the Display / Screen RESOLUTION page, it says 'Another display not detected', after I CLICK on detect. There's a Multiple Displays option just below it: Try to connect anyway on: VGA but that doesn't do anything. My second monitor also says on it "No signal connected", even though its connected with the DVI cable.

I tried both screens independently and they both work, but the two of them can't be detected at the same time. They each have a DVI slot which I wish to USE for both of them, along with the 2 slots in my PC. However, I'm open to using another connection if needs be, HDMI, USB etc.

PC Details:
My graphics/video card is: NVIDIA GeForce GTX 750 Ti
My Machine (Motherboard) is: Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. - GA-78LMT-USB3 6.0
Operating System: Windows 7
Memory: 8gb
Processor: AMD FX(tm)-4300 Quad-Core Processor
Monitors: PL2280H
Hard Disk: TOSHIBA DT01ACA100 ATA Device (1.0 TB)

I have Driver Easy PRO and have updated all the drivers that it says are out-of-date. I have also updated my video card to the latest one.

Why doesn't it work? Is it possible to have 2 screens running from DVI connections? I know a splitter only gives you a mirrored screen and I want an extended. Does one have to be HDMI? Even then that doesn't work I've tried. I can't seem to find any solutions on the web and I've looked for hours.
Sorted. I unplugged both monitors whilst the PC was still on. I just used HDMI with the first monitor and plugged that one in first (in the gpu section of the PC), and then I plugged in the DVI cable for the 2nd monitor in the same section. WORKED!

Solve : Windows 7 downgrade need USB drivers?

Answer»

Since I have just gotten a new Windows 10 home computer and rediscovered my hate for windows 10 I tried to install Windows 7. When I installed it I ended up stalled at the point where windows is installed but I need a keyboard and/or mouse to proceed (at the point it is asking location/language etc.).
I need to know which drivers I need to add before installation... My new PC is as follows:
ABS Mage E - Ryzen 5 2600 - GeForce GTX 1660 Ti - 16GB DDR4 - 512GB SSD - Gaming Desktop PC
Further breakdown (not 100% certain what you might need so posting everthing): Ryzen 5 2nd Gen - CPU Speed: 2600 (3.40 GHz) - NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1660 Ti - Memory Capacity: 16 GB DDR4 3000 MHz - SSD: 512 GB - Processor Main Features 64 bit 6-Core Processor - Chipset AMD A320 - Rear USB 4 x USB 3.1 Gen 1 (Supports ESD Protection) 2 x USB 2.0 (Supports ESD Protection)

Once I can get online I can update everything else but I don't have a PS/2 keyboard/mouse and there is only 1 split port for both peripherals. If you plug a USB Keyboard and/or mouse into the USB 2.0 ports, you should be able to proceed through the installation.

Alternatively, the "split port" you mention I suspect is a PS/2 Port, in which case if you have a PS/2 Keyboard you should be able to proceed as well, (by navigating through the Windows install via the keyboard.)I hope you kept a copy of the windows 10, as i doubt you will have a very stable computer running Windows 7 with the CPU and graphics card you have. I RECOMMEND sticking with Windows 10 it is fast and supports all your computer parts QUOTE from: BC_Programmer on August 31, 2019, 06:37:39 AM

If you plug a USB Keyboard and/or mouse into the USB 2.0 ports, you should be able to proceed through the installation.

Alternatively, the "split port" you mention I suspect is a PS/2 Port, in which case if you have a PS/2 Keyboard you should be able to proceed as well, (by navigating through the Windows install via the keyboard.)
My Mouse and keyboard were plugged in the USB 2.0 ports beside the PS/2 port (clearly placed to support keyboard and mouse by general location).
As to the PS/2 port... I haven't owned a PS/2 mouse or keyboard for a very long time and THREW out my usb to PS/2 converter about a year ago. This will become my final solution when a new converter arrives sometime in the next 2 weeks.

I hope you kept a copy of the windows 10, as i doubt you will have a very stable computer running Windows 7 with the CPU and graphics card you have. I recommend sticking with Windows 10 it is fast and supports all your computer parts
I have not "deleted" Windows 10, nor will I. I plan on installing Windows 7 on a dual boot system with Windows 10 so I can make minor changes to things Windows 10 no longer allows. If this fails, I do have further options involving a full reformat and reinstall but this is a last resort as I have memory issues and may forget that item 12 out of 20 has to be attached after items 1 to 11 in correct order followed by items 13 to 20 in correct order (I am giving 20 as a random number since I don't want to try and count the actual number of items I need to connect)

Solve : Problems with reboot after new harddrive?

Answer»

I started trying to fix my labtop, it kept rebooting to BIOS page. AFter 2 computer guys and a diagnostic, it had a drive that crashed, and the replacement drive had been a dud. My asus labtop had passed the diagnostic everywhere but the drive. I get it BACK with 3rd drive last night, that passed, and it froze after downloading steam and other software as I tried to find an image for a image lock password, and RAN into a blue screen issue. On restart it had a reboot with proper reboot screen. I looked up solutions changed reboot order and one of my OPTION had disappeared. The pc tried fix it TOOL but would stop at black screen. I now have no boot options, I disable fast boot and use the other boot option and legacy for my comp to find drive, I'm stuck on constant reboot with proper ITEM screen or that and missing media any ideas guys? Thanks

Solve : Windows 95 Sound driver?

Answer»

I installed Win95 on a laptop. There is a graphics driver for Win95 for any modern hardware(https://bearwindows.zcm.com.au/vbe9x.htm#2), but Is there a sound driver with the similar principle with that graphics driver for any modern hardware?Drivers are hardware specific. If a driver doesnt exist for your laptop then Windows 95 was never intended to be PAIRED with that hardware. The best success with a build running an older OS is to have hardware that was designed to originally run that OS.

On newer builds I have had some success with getting older versions of Windows to run WITHIN virtual environments such as using Virtual PC 2007 or older edition and the emulated hardware has drivers that work with that emulated hardware that by which it is able to transfer the sound to more modern audio chips running a newer version of Windows.

Virtual PC 2007 however works ok with everything up to Windows XP SP3, and it can run on Vista and Windows 7 with forcing the OS to INSTALL it to run the Virtual PC software to host virtual machines. I haven't been successful with Windows 8 or 10 working with the older Virtual PC 2007. Virtual PC 2007 if you can find it online it was issued for free from Microsoft, however they have discontinued it and discontinued supporting it.

VMware is another method of running other OS's within a system however I have never tried to get Windows 95 working on VMware to say whether it works ok or not.

Lastly BIGGEST issue with emulated OS operation in a virtual machine is that Video Games are not very happy with that environment. Some will run ok, but most that i have tried require them to be run on older hardware that was designed to run those kinds of games. So if you want to run a video game or anything else graphical you might find that it wont work from a virtual machine environment if you went in this direction to getting it to work.I mean, Modern Windows plays sound without drivers too, so the same thing that is compatible with Win95.Quote from: alan1313 on October 03, 2019, 02:21:33 AM

Modern Windows plays sound without drivers too, so the same thing that is compatible with Win95.
It doesn't. "Modern Windows" Merely includes a wider set of drivers for pretty much everything, including audio devices.

There is no "Generic Audio Driver" because there is realistically no standard "interface" across Audio devices.

Solve : Windows' Built In Equalizer?

Answer»

I keep reading that there's a sound equalizer built into Windows 10, but I can't find it. From what I gather, there should be a tab labeled "Enhancements" on my Speakers' Properties screen. I show: "General", "Level", "Dolby Audio", "Advanced", and "Spatial Sound".

I'm sure there's a setting in the reg that will MAKE it all fonzie.

Any thoughts?

Google gives this:
Quote

How to find the default Equalizer on Windows 10
Locate the speaker or sound icon on your PC.
Right click on it and select the playback device option.
A dialog named sound should appear.
Locate the default speakers or headphones in the playback tab.
Right click on the default speakers, then select propertie

Did you look on You Tube? There are some there.

However, many users PREFER some other program to do that job for playback of music files. My favorite is Win Amp.
Yes, I checked all of the Googles.

Would love some real suggestions, if anyone has anything.

I don't see an "enhancements" tab for either my Sound Blaster ZXR nor my motherboard audio. Of the ones that have an enhancement tab, the only one that has an "equalizer" in the list of options is the Digital output for my Motherboard Audio.

I think the audio "enhancements" are specific to each driver. ADDITIONALLY, I suspect depending on the software and audio device you are using it might be elsewhere. All my Sound Blaster's various options, including an equalizer, are part of it's software suite and not part of any Windows control panels.

That was always my presumption, but when I went looking for 3RD party eq's, so many posts REFERRED to a built-into-Win-10 option that I believed 'em.

Solve : Bluetooth not connection to mobile?

Answer»

HP Probook 450 G0 Win 7 (64)
Bluetooth (BT) worked and I had mobile and speakers linked. Picked up a problem and I unfortunately deleted these 2 devices (control panel > devices) and wanted to ADD them again to fix the problem. Since then cant ADD the previous ‘deleted’ THE PREVIOUS DELETED devices although they are discoverable. ADD searches and finds nothing. BT icon showing bottom right – click devices and shows noting. Clicked add device and nothing. Ran troubleshoots and checked ‘all BT drivers (device manager) but working properly and have up to date drivers. Restarted.
Device manager: Under ‘Bluetooth Radio’s’ I have -Microsoft BT enumerator and -Ralink BT 4.0 adapter. Under ‘Network Adapters’ I have -Bluetooth device (personal area network); -Bluetooth device (rfcomm protocol tdi); -microsoft virtual wifi miniport adapter; -Ralink RT3290 802.11bgn wifi adapter; -Realtek PCIe GBE family controller. THANKSHave you tried disabling and re-enabling Bluetooth?
Or have you tried a spare device or headphones to test to see if it works at all?

What model were the speakers? What phone was it?

Ive noticed Bluetooth is a pain sometimes to get to work right on Windows 7, espically with iOS devices, you may just have to try a few more times.

Also, you may have to make the laptop's Bluetooth discoverable. Sometimes its discoverable on the devices but not the laptop itself. Maybe your Bluetooth settings need to be changed on the phone to make it visible for more than a certain amount of time, same goes for the laptop. (Maybe not the speakers, since its speakers. Not quite able to do that on speakers.)

In my experience, Android and headphones (Usually) seem to have no ISSUES connecting to bluetooth on Windows 7, but iOS tends to. I have not tried speakers, as I have had no need for external speakers on a laptop. (Do note I had these experiences on a 10 year old THINKPAD when I had it with Bluetooth 2.1 and not on my current laptop with either 3.1/4.1, except for the iOS one, and a couple pairs of headphones)DLoad and re-install the drivers from the HP site...re-boot after. With bluetooth devices when you delete the device you have to re pair the device to the laptop.

With the speakers they will have a connect button, which you press while the laptop is scanning for bluetooth devices when the laptop detects the speakers it will show in the bt device list and there will be some QUESTIONS to answer from windows then you are good to go.

This is a link to some details on how to do this https://support.microsoft.com/en-us/help/15290/windows-connect-bluetooth-device
Hint: he still needs to re-install the drivers if the device was removed...
I think this says the drivers are loaded and should be working.

Or have you tried a spare device or headphones to test to see if it works at all? Although 'discoverable' HP picks up nothing. Galaxy 5 pickes up speakers and HP

I also did this ....Made sure both devices are ‘discoverable’. Pair Galax with HP (still on record previous paring) > shows HP as ‘available devices’ > choose HP > got message ‘confirm passkey is xxxxx to pair with HP > ok >unable to pair with HP, make sure HP is ready to pair (it was ready). Checked on HP the BT devices ....> 0 items > click ‘add device’ > searching for devices , nothing found (also not the speakers previously paired although they are discoverable).

Did not DL 'Qualcomm Atheros. The Intel drivers I downloaded now are not listed in device manager, even with hidden files on.

Btooth icon showing bottom right. Tried to link my HP on Galaxy and got a "confirm passkey to pair with hp", I did but get 'cannot pair with HP. Bottom line HP (allow devices to find this pc is ticked on) cannot link to galaxy or speaker and vice verse. It may be time to replace it with a new bluetooth dongle then...

Solve : Thank you for help Raptor, but u didnt understand?

Answer»

The problem is, I dont know the soundcard name
And the windows cant FIND it

So The question was, How can i install a sound card that i dont know his name/model?
Are there no entries in Device Manager -> Control for Audio, Video and Games?

Has this soundcard stopped working all of a sudden? Has it ever worked at all?

Did you take proper precautions when installing it?

Provide me with more details.. And donot CREATE a new topic, stick to ONE topic instead.I will say it again...
The sound card was working just fine, but i had to format drive c:
and install Windows xp again, i thought that xp will AUTO install my sound card but he didnt

Now when i GO 2 Device maneger i dont c nothing on control and audio...

Now u understand man ?Turn off your computer, ground yourself, reinsert the soundcard and see if it properly detects it this time. If necessary, use a different PCI slot.

Before doing so, verify that Windows XP did not detect your soundcard by going to Windows Update and looking under the driver section to see if there are any drivers avaible for your soundcard.LOL
Man, I wish i could just change the pci slot, the problem is
That the sound card is on the bored...
on the mother bord
Thats a problem

But ill check again for update and stuff and i hope it will work

Thank you manIf it is onboard, you will have to install (updated) motherboard drivers.

If that does not work, see if the soundcard is enabled in your BIOS.Since it is an on-board "sound card", the motherboard manufacturer's site should have appropriate drivers for the sound device. Windows doesn't have drivers for everything. Occasionally, you must go to the manufacturer.

Hope this helps.

Solve : Wi-Fi Network Card Power Management?

Answer»

BC_Programmer:
It seems the network card and the Power Settings just can't co-exist. This is the card that comes in Windows Surface Pro 5's. I received this from MSFT Store <6 weeks ago!

Lisa_maree:
I would not say I've isolated this to just the VPN. I only notice it when I'm on my VPN.

I only know my network has dropped because either
a) A download didn't complete or
b) My VPN connection reconnects after I sign back

And for the last four weeks, at least, all of my downloads have been through a VPN. I will double-check my VPN settings, though. Who knows if an update mucked about with its timeout settings!

What I need to do is smoke test the network. I guess I can leave the PC unattended overnight, with the VPN down, and see what the email inbound traffic looks like.

Although my computer connects to a ton of different networks (a slutty little thing, it is), I am more monogamous when it comes to unattended downloads - either my home Cable-based WiFi or a hotel WiFi (presuming it's cable-based). Obviously on hotel networks I can't plug in with an RJ45. And I won't be back on my home router (which is buried behind my stereo) until Saturday.

Will continue to report back. Thanks for the help and suggestions! It is NOT just when I am on my VPN.

I have noticed this behavior (the network dropping when the screen goes to sleep):
1) Using my VPN at two hotels
2) Using my VPN at home
3) NOT using a VPN at home
4) NOT using my VPN on client networks

and have NOT noticed this behavior
4) Using my VPN at a third hotel

One of the hotels in #1) requires daily registration to access the network. The client network in 4) requires daily registration to access network. (Both through the web - the hotel requires individual identification, the client network is a generic guest password). My home network, obviously, does NOT require daily registration.

It's very strange.

I reconnect immediately once my screen is unlocked.Just for added clarity, it disconnects whenever my screen display turns off (i.e., "Turn Off the Display" in Power Settings). Regardless of whether or not VPN is on.Then turn off the screen power settings as well...When I do that, Patio, my screen never shuts off (which I do WANT it to do), and, more importantly, it won't go to sleep when I close my lid.

There's some broken logic in my network card, and I'm trying to find a way to correct it.

It's either/or with this driver. Either I have Power Settings for the laptop, or I can keep the network connection active.

I'm hesitant to take the machine back under warranty, as it seems that this will be an endemic issue to the SP5 setup. If there's no way to hack a SOLUTION, I'm just going to have to hope that the Marvell people fix it. (But, really, when it comes to computers, who believes in "hope", anyway!!?!?)

Clearly I'm at wit's end, and have no idea what to do!

Apparently a lot of people have had all sorts of issue with the Surface, a lot of which revolve around the network adapter; not connecting to access POINTS, not working correctly in various ways, random disconnects, etc. Here is a list of all the things Microsoft has done to address these serious issues that have been seen by their consumers:

... Yeah, they've done nothing as far as I can tell. It's really just people with issues and others making guesses regarding possible resolutions (kind of like this thread!).

If you have or can get a USB Wifi adapter for cheap it might be worthwhile as it could at least point the finger at the built-in wireless adapter. Though from there it's really a CASE of hoping those responsible for the SOFTWARE in question issue some fix and it actually can get to you.Yeah, that's about the best my Google-Fu uncovered.

What's frustrating is, I had an SP4, and, after a few growing pains (and a quick warranty replacement) was awesome for about 2.8 years. Then the battery started draining quickly - even when powered off! About 0.18 years later, I resolved to look at the new Surfaces v. MacBooks, when I noticed my screen separating from the board. On an airplane. Some quick Googling found "battery bulge" - and a quick phone call put my right to a "battery bulge" specialist. Who knew?

They said because it was over 3 years since my purchase date, I was SOL. I pointed out my initial unit was defective, and this replacement was just a hair under 3 years old - so they swapped it for this SP5. Which is fantastic - except for this network card issue.

And because the Surface folks studied Mac's model, you can't just swap out a card on the dang thing.

Since it was a freebie, when I was expecting to drop coin on a new PC, I'm willing to live with it. But it's frustrating!

Thanks for all the advice and registry hacks...

Solve : Remote desktop Sound card issue?

Answer»

Hi all,

I need assistance in emulating a sound card on a virtual Windows just to run some STREAMING software from it. I have made RDP sound work, but when I log out, it STOPS the DRIVER, which stops the streaming sound! Is there any way I can just keep sound working when I log out of the remote desktop session? There MUST be a SOLUTIONS for this?!

Can anyone point me in the right direction for something I could use? Some more details.
Why must you do it that way?
How far away is the remote desktop?
Wat kind of hardware are you using?
Can this be a task to run on a schedule?
Of course it stops when you log out...it's sound is dependent on your RDP

Solve : Dying HDD, trouble updating a Windows 10 backup, maybe some other things?

Answer»

Hope this isn't too hard to follow or long.

I'm not sure where this goes; it deals with Windows 10, firmware, and hardware. I hope I didn't miss something when making this thread, but I'm feeling a bit rushed...
Keep in mind there's a lot I don't remember from when I started to trying to back up my HDD. I don't know if I directly copied the files, I don't know if I used Windows backup, I just don't remember at all what I did and its really, REALLY frustrating.

Also, yes; I was negligent.

----

Over a year ago, I was told my primary HDD is showing signs of dying, so I got an SDD, a new HDD, did a full backup, and set up automatic backups. But I never found time (or courage) to update my hardware. I realize I *should* update before my drive crashes, but I never did.
Then, I don't remember the details, but it stopped backing up and I stopped using it. When I checked today, I noticed the automatic updates were still on and referenced the SSD, so I dunno if that can be an issue...

Flash forward to present. I'm finally troubleshooting the issues with my SSD because I'm getting some deathly concerning slowdowns and random issues. When I go to backup settings it says:

Size of backup: 0 bytes
Total Space on Seagate Backup Plus Drive (D:): 1.81 TB
Last backup 8/8/2018

If I hit "back up now", it says "Backing up your data" with a loading circle, but nothing happens; a minute or two passes and the screen just returns to saying 0 bytes, last update 2018 etc. and correctly references drive D as the SSD.

I wanted to CHECK if the SSD backup was corrupt or something and thought a quick way to do that would be to casually click around and see what's actually stored on it.
Looking around the SSD, I found out that I need to click a permission THING to get access to a folder labelled 'WindowsImageBackup' on my external. I did access it. I assume this is because its a backup (though I am curious about this too).
There's a Backup folder with hard disk files... Size looks right for a full backup. I guess this means my SSD works at least?
What is going on?

So basically:
1) How do I know my stuff is actually backed up properly?
2) How do I... do whatever I need to do in order to get have a current full backup that I can then use to migrate my full system? What is going on? Please god make it stop so I can concentrate on my calc 2 finals and IRS papers

...I think the rest is for Google. I'm frustrated, but I have to do this because I'm almost certain my drive is failing.
Hi

OK first off lets check the health of your hard drives with a program called HDsentinel from here https://www.hdsentinel.com/download.php

If you post a screen capture of the front screen of HDsentinel with the Seagate Backup plus plugged in we can see both the health of the drives and how much space is used.

The Seagate backup plus has software SUPPLIED called toolkit for doing backups either a full copy of the drives in the computer or just some folders.

A description of how to use Toolkit is available here https://www.seagate.com/au/en/support/external-hard-drives/desktop-hard-drives/backup-plus-desk/

If the backup was created with windows backup then the folder and files created are just like another drive on your computer and you can view it's contents and copy files from the backup set.
From dictation.

The advice given to you by Lisa_maree is very good. What I have to say here is not intended as a contradiction. It is impossible alternative solution to your problem.
I think you should get another computer. Preferably one that has some type of guarantee or support available for it. If PRICE is a problem you could buy a refurbished PC that will give good performance for most common operations.
It is not clear what you need in a computer. Do you play a lot of games? Do you need it for some kind of development that requires extra speed and productivity?
For just general browsing and social media you don't need very much computing power. There are some refurbished computers available on eBay that come with a warranty and sell for less than $150. Of course, you have to supply your own monitor. Keeping your old monitor can save you quite a bit of money on a refurbished PC. Most of the time the problem is not with the monitor anyway, it is usually with the computer itself.
That's all I have to say. This is with sincerity and frankness. I have had computers for many years and find that sometimes the best thing to do is just get another computer and throw the old runaway. I used to be able to fix things myself, but I have lost that ability and I am getting to be very forgetful. So I better post this before I forget how to do it.

No, I am not joking. I really am going DOWNHILL.
End dictation.

Solve : pdrom, ever heard of this??

Answer»

Hi, Im not the most computer illiterate guy, but Im really struggling here. Recently I bought my daughter a used pentium 1 , 133mhz 32mb ram Panasonic toughbook laptop. It came with dos on it, but it has a weird rom drive that Ive never even heard of. It takes a CARTRIDGE or cd and its called a pdrom(OLD school). Problem is I cant get it to work. it opens and closes, but I cant get any drivers to work for it so that it is recognized. I went to the panasonic site, and DL'd several files that are for this model, including the manual and cd drivers. Couldnt get anything to work. Emailed Panasonic about my kids new (used, but she thinks its the bomb) CF-62 TOUGHBOOK and the problem about the driver for the cd/pdrom. They sent me an attachment to create a first aid disk using a zip file. I unzipped the file and found the following: UP FOLDER, MKD FOLDER, WINDOWS FOLDER, VIDEO FOLDER; and AUTOEXEC.BAT, COMMAND.COM, CONFIG.SYS, IO.SYS, and MSDOS.SYS

Now, I have no idea where to start so I open the folders and look, and the windows folder and the up folder are for the most part empty. The mkd folder has many files, about 30, several executables. One of the files is the MK1STAID.EXE so obviously thats what I want to do. I choose this OPTION and it acts like it cant read the a: drive to write the first aid disc. over and over i see: Insert floppy and in drive a and press any key. when I push any key, it gives me that same message again. Can someone please help me? Can I make this 1st aid disk on another machine, and if so, how without changing my windows 2000 system files to 95 crap. Already done that one time, so evidently I need INSTRUCTION. Thanks in advance for your ADVICE.--dave

I would say Yes. It should just make a floppy disk. Should work on the ToughBook, too. Put some files on a FD and check to see if the ToughBook can read it.

ToughBook is a good choice for a notebook...nearly indestructible. New ones are very expensive.

BTW, all the drivers and the Operating Manual are on their website.
http://tcc.toughbook.com/
Have you contacted Panasonic to request specific instructions?im doing that now. i requested specific drivers that are not available on the website. The only ones available on the website are for the cf-61 and this is a 62, same with the first aid disk, they sent me the one for the 61 and the faq downloadable on their site specifically says I need a separate file for the 62, but since they sent me the 61, I figured maybe it was compatible. Evidently not. I am contacting them again now......be back shortly.

yep.

I reformatted, reinstalled windows xp, and reinstalled all my hardware and drivers. But when I installed the Direct X 9 that came with my video CARD, I couldn't get into windows. It would begin with the loading screen, but once it ended the screen would go black.

once I get this problem fixed, all I need to do then is figure out how to fix my belkin wireless, and then I've got to download sp2, that avg program you gave me (ty very much) and generally firewall the *censored* outta the pc. But first things first, as I have so painfully learned.billiusthemook....Can you START up in safe mode and then remove the offending driver .
What are you using for anti virus right now....?

let us know

dl65 because I haven't been able to connect to the internet, I haven't gotten any anti-virus. I had burned the avg anti-virus you got me onto a dvd, and was going to copy it onto the pc, but remembered it would be useless because it wouldn't be able to update itself without a connection.

Safe mode brings the same thing. Begins to load windows, but then goes to a black screen.billiusthemook......Well ...given that you have just formatted ......( and your now a pro at it ) ....I think I would be inclined to FORMAT the sucker again...only this time I wouldnt be so quick to use the drivers that came with your vid card ....I would be going on line with another pc and d/l the latest drivers directly from the vid cards manufacturers site....or even better .......install your AVG ...go online and get the updates and then D/l SP2 ......and while your at the windows update .....let it scan your system and it will probably find the correct drivers for your vid card. ( one of the things that screws up windows ...is 3RD party software ) it isn't always compatible.

let us know
dl65 gotcha, will do as you say.

I will probably be back with a post on how to finally get my belkin wireless working. If you donot have Internet, you donot have to worry too much about updating your virus scanner. It is important, but not a top priority.

Have you tried booting into safemode and removing DX9 from there?

Before you move the PC, HP recommends that you either shut it down or initiate Sleep or Hibernation. HOWEVER, in the event that the PC is shaken or dropped not in Sleep or Hibernation mode, ProtectSmart will park the hard drive to attempt to prevent DAMAGE. ProtectSmart protects your hard drive by using a device to measure movement called accelerometers that are placed inside your PC. This software removes power to the ssd which isn't a good idea with an ssd

I'd like to know what this file is for? And why does it keep asking me "to open with". Thank you I will assume that it asks to 'Open with' when you double click on it.

That most likely happens because no program has been assigned to it. Do you require the file to work with? If yes, contact the author and ask him what software you require.

The file seems to be a printer driver file for Windows 95.

Are you experiencing Printer related problems?

Then look through this article: Printer HelpThanks Raptor. I was having a problem this morning with my printer and scanner not working. I finally re-installed the software for them and everything seems fine. In am working in Windows 98 second ed. This file is in my C:/windows/system should I just delete it? That is a virtual DEVICE driver for the parallel port. Anything that uses the parallel port (not just printers) will need it. Pretend its not there and forget you ever SAW it. Windows knows what to do with it even if you don't.

thanks in advance!Lei......When you installed XP , did you go to the windows update site and D/l all the updates as well as SP2 , and any driver updates that would have been there. The other question I have is ..when you installed XP ...did you format the HD and do a clean install ..because all the hardware , including the sound card should have been recognized and the appropriate drivers installed. Does it show up in the device manager as being installed ? If you rquire a driver ....get it at .... http://members.driverguide.com/index.php

Hope this helps
dl65 Windows XP should be ABLE to find and install drivers for the soundcard installed.

Use the Windows Update option to do so. You can EVEN search for new Hardware and then tell it to search online.

here is the Intex webpage link . You can always E-mail TECHNICAL support or browse their website for drivers.

Solve : Having a bit problem with updating the BIOS of my Windows 10 HP notebook laptop.?

Answer»

My HP notebook laptop is FACING some charging problems (charges very slow) and I've been recommended to update the BIOS of my laptop. There is a BIOS update available when I check with HP Support Assistant .The BIOS update downloads succesfully and the INSTALLER window of the BIOS setup pops-up. After clicking on few " next " buttons , a pop-up shows the following message and I don't know what to do. Here's what I get:

1) The BIOS update may not fully update in legacy flash method. Please select "Create USB Flash Recovery Drive" to create crisis dongle and run this utility again.
Click "Exit" to close this utility.

2) Only update BIOS region.
Click "Continue" to continue the flash process.

The first option just closes the HP BIOS Utility and doesn't update the BIOS. My question is that should I proceed with the second option which says " Only update BIOS region " ?
This might be a dumb question but SINCE updating the BIOS is a delicate process, I don't want to take any risk.

I've posted the same question on HP Support Forum and some other forums, but didn't got any accurate answer.

Product name: HP notebook 15-ay503tx.
OS: Windows 10(64 bit).
Processor: Intel i5 6200u.

Thanks in advance.I'd put a blank USB stick ( aka PENDRIVE ) into a USB port and go with first option for it to create the recovery if that works with a USB stick available to create the recovery tool to.Short and Safe answer:
Don't do anything.
In only a few cases is a BIOS update needed on a recent laptop.
A bad update can fry the thing and make it into a doorstop.

EDIT: This link might help:
https://store.hp.com/us/en/tech-takes/how-to-enter-bios-setup-windows-pcs

I have yet to read it over and am not sure if it applies to your concern.
How do you know it needs BIOS update?

RE-EDIT: my Bad. The link is much too broad.
I have not found any place where that model needs BIOS update.
Here is a link from HP that does NOT give anything specif regarding the NEED for update.
https://support.hp.com/us-en/document/c00042629

What it does say is that you have to be sure you have the right information.

An available BIOS update resolves a specific issue or improves computer performance.
The current BIOS does not support a hardware component or a Windows upgrade.
HP support recommends installing a specific BIOS update.

Solve : Directx corrupting MPU-401 midi and ms WDM sound?

Answer»

Hi,I had some spyware PROBLEMS a few days ago (and I think I fixed them...Ad-Aware says I'm clean at least

but I have a slight driver problem...well problems...I didn't know weither to post in the windows forum or here

also some people may remember me from months ago when I had a bunch of questions about formating

well anyway I think directx and mmtask is to blame...everytime I think I've reinstalled my sound drivers fully,I get other problems...such as my modem having a red x or a yellow ! next to it in the computer device properties

the two drivers that keep GETTING reinstalled...but when I restart next time don't are any sound devices, those being a Gamepad driver (and I don't use a computer joystick so the driver is useless...but it's there anyway) the Microsoft MPU-401 MIDI driver (a MIDI mapper?) and of course my sound drivers...ESS Allegro PCI Audio (WDM)...or basicly my computer's source for sound

now as I said when I reinstall one or more another acts up...the other driver being a WDM Modem Enumerator or the Modem itself!!!

also a few times I've gotten a error when "REBOOTING to install/reinstall drivers" saying something about MMSystem.dll/MMtask or one of the directx dlls (I'm not sure which one...and Dxconfig doesn't work either)

I have tried reinstall drivers,reinstalling directx,etc.

my manufacture Compaq has GIVEN me some links to updated drivers...two fo them being modem ones, one being a update for my system BIOS and two different Sound driver ones (one off compaq's website, another off ESS Tech's ftp)

compaq now says the only way to fix this (like they say to me to begin with on ANY Problem) is to format/do a full "restore"

I think this is a sound driver problem so can anyone help me with this?

my computer specs are:
OS: Windows ME
Processor 800Mhz Intel Celeron
RAM: 128 MB RAM
Computer: A (old according to hp tech...even tho it's just over 3 years) Compaq Presario

Thanks in advance to anyone and everyone on this site for the help

Steve 7 oook now I got the sound back (by doing the one thing compaq said NOT to do!...reinstall windows)but...when I adjust the volume now it "automaticly" adjusts itself down to nothing....werid....maybe it's the wdm audio drivers?Perhaps you did not need to reinstall Windows.

Did you properly format before reinstalling Windows?

Solve : Very frequent game crashes, occasional bluescreens in Dota 2 with new PC upgrade?

Answer»

Sorry for long post, but I am desperate for a solution to an issue I know from experience to be very TIME-consuming.

I replaced all but the case and GPU in my PC and made fresh Windows 10 installation on new SSD. The aforementioned crashes ONLY happen in Dota 2 (granted the only other game I've played on here is WoW Classic), and make the game unplayable, because it is an online competitive action-RTS game (also, I hate to admit, a huge part of my life), for those who aren't familiar. And time lost is game-losing. Anyway, I encountered my first problems when I installed the latest AMD driver and software. Halfway through the cursor disappeared, the screen froze, and the GPU fan went to max RPM, followed by black screen. Upon rebooting, all seemed well as Windows update appeared to fill in the BLANKS in drivers (I had not yet connected to my internet when I attempted to install video drivers), and I got the AMD software by RUNNING setup from the C:\AMD directory. The Dota 2 client recommended that I set it to use DX11, so that is what I still have it on. I encountered problems in my first game with a bit of strange stuttering, and then the first blue screen. In subsequent Dota matches I have had 1-4 game crashes per game where the process quits with no warning. As far as the Windows blue screens, I have had 3 of them so far (they occur while Dota 2 is running), and they are always a different stop code (I wish I had recorded them), but a couple remind me of video driver issues I've had before on other systems. I am quite hesitant to uninstall/reinstall the driver as doing so in past AMD driver issues on a certain other system has always led to me having to reinstall Windows with still at best a partial fix on the original issue (at worst the card becomes entirely unusable), so I would like to receive input from others before I try anything.

Here is driver and software info from the application:

Ryzen 2600X CPU
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2x8GB 3466Mhz 16-18-18-36(?)
AMD RX 470 4GB graphics card
A good NVMe M.2 SSD

Also please note I have the XMP memory profile on as well as "game boost" from BIOS (CPU multiplier up such that freq is 4.05Ghz). And temps have been fine, no more than 70C on anything under load. My PC otherwise runs flawlessly.

Any suggestions that could help me at all are greatly appreciated! Thanks so so much for your time.
Try running on admin access or download the latest driver and GPU and computer update if problem still continues then run on safemode with network check weather it opeans or not He hasnt been back for 3 months...

Solve : Lost WIFI due to Error Code 12 after Windows upgrade from 7 to 10?

Answer»

I have no internet access after upgrading from Win 7 to Win 10. There are errors (Code 12) on the Atherex AR5005G Wireless Network adaptor and the Realtek RTL8139/810x Family Fast Ethernet NIC. I tried uninstalling both to no avail. Errors too on two of the four Standard Dual Channel PCI IDE CONTROLLERS. The BIOS on this system appears to be v2.30, a figure that I feel is greater than v2.3.5 specified as a minimum. The other minimum parameters REQUIRED by Win 10 also seem to be exceeded. Question: (a) how do I deal with the apparent conflicts in the system (I cannot see which IRQ channels each component is trying to occupy - I have forgotten how to do this) (b) given that if all ELSE fails I can revert successfully to Win 7 on this machine, is it a waste of time trying to get it to upgrade to Win 10? - if not, what do I do now, please? This is from dictation.

Here is what I think is a quick way to solve your problem. I am going to assume that you're using the Wi-Fi router and there is nothing wrong with the router itself. Apparently you are somehow able to get to the Internet with either another of computer or another OPERATING system. Your problem is that you cannot get an Internet connection using Windows 10. Is that so? I would assume that it is.
What you could do is purchase one of those people Wi-Fi USB adapters that are sold on Amazon and other sites. Practically all of these adapters are compatible with Windows 10 and Windows 10. Install a suitable driver automatically.
You might get a small CD with the unit, and if so, it will have a suitable driver for Windows 10. But the driver supplied by Windows 10 might be good enough to give you a usable Internet connection.
Once you have a suitable Internet connection, you can search for a better driver for your Wi-Fi adapter. Or just continue to use the new Wi-Fi adapter and forget about the old one.
What I'm trying to say is this; the new Wi-Fi adapters are so cheap and universal that is almost not worth your time to try to figure out when older unit is not working right. That is especially true with the drafters that have the brand Realtek. That particular brand is give me more trouble than I can mention. However, the newer versions of that same chipset company seem to work alright.
Anyway, I think that's the easiest and quickest way to solve your problem.

End of dictation.Thank you. I did consider a USB plug-in wireless adaptor but unfortunately the laptop has only one USB socket. I know I can get a splitter. But again, it's not just the Wireless adaptor that is throwing up the error. Yes I am using the same hub and another computer to talk to the FORUM. I feel that if i could address the conflicts I would be OK. But even uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers does no good. I'm inclined to give up on this one - but thanks again for your suggestion
