Any beeping sounds? Do you have VIRUS protection? Which operating system? Any recovery CDs? Made any changes recently?

How has this problem occured? What have you done before it stopped responding? What hardware is installed?

Quote
Give us all the information that seems relevant.

You failed to. Do so now.theres no beeping sounds,  no virus protection at the moment, windows xp, i don't have any recovery cds, and i've made no recent changes.

the problem occured when i RESTARTED my computer...the monitor stayed blank with the self check thingy on. other than that the computer seemed to run fine. the fans work, cd drives work.

i was told that the problem is probably with my motherboard, is that at all possible?

by the way its a p4 2.4 ghz, msi mainboard P4MAM series. the only hardware installed is my 2 cd drives, harddrive and disk driveHave you checked the hardware for burnmarks?

Try reseating cables and hardware.

I would also test the PSU on another computer to SEE if it still functions.there's no burn marks that i can see. i tried the power supply on another computer and when i first started it up it made a long beep sound and the monitor wouldnt turn on. then i turned the computer off then back on and it worked fine.http://support.microsoft.com/kb/q155053/that doesnt seem to help merlin...the problem is that its like the computer doesnt RECOGNIZE the monitor. as soon as i boot up the computer the screen is blank and stays blank Quote

What type of PSU is installed?its a deep electronic 300 wWhat type of hardware is installed?

Is it possible to test this computer by using a more powerful PSU?plug the monitor serial plug in and wiggle the cable....the serial port MAYBE worn...........or damaged.ill have to borrow a more powerful power supply...and wiggling the cable didnt do anything

Solve : need help/advice about upgrading an etower 633ids?

Answer»

hi, i recently came into an etower 633ids that someone threw out, even though it works fine, and im planning to do some upgrades on it. i have ALREADY installed a new hard drive, next up is ram, and maybe cpu.

ram: it says max 256, but ive read that if i get double sided 256, i can get a max of 512. could someone pleases explain?

cpu: the cpu is already better then my main computer, but can it be upgraded?

video card: should i install a new one, or is the one in it good enough? im asking becuase when i watch something in my media player, and go to open another file, you can see the PICTURE through the letters.

bios: dont know much about this, but ive read that the hp pavilion 3.07 bios is better(what does the bios effect anyway?)

lastly, they threw out the monitor too, is it safe? becuase while i was searching for info, one person said that theyres cuaght fire.

anyway, sorry bout all the questions, but i want to learn a bit about the hardware, so im making it a project to upgrade the pc. thanks for any helpLink:>http://parts.emachines.com/emachines/sys_lookup.asp Quote

1. What type of memory is installed? You should obtain the mainboard manual, it can tell you what memory can and can not be installed and in what combinations.

2. What socket is it and what is currently present?

3. What do you want to do with the computer?

4. More information about the BIOS can be found here

5. Did the monitor catch fire once? I wouldn't try using it again unless you like your desk medium-rare.eTower 633ids Support Information

Solve : better hardware but not as good?

Answer»

I GOT a new computer a couple months ago because my old one had old specs 1.7cpu,256ram,gforce2, stuff like that you know + it was just old.

So I gota new one 3.4cpu, 512ram, rad700pro, and it works fine and all but sometimes after its been on for a couple hours it just seems alot slower than my old one, and sometimes it will lock up for like 20secs and then do one of those super speed catch up THINGS, and im not running ANYTHING different.

So I was wondering what could be causeing the computer to run slow, it is alot smaller than my other one, alot more compact. If you really wana look at the specs its an alienware bot they have it on their webpage.

any help would be AWESOME, thanks guys

PS: my computer came with a modem can I take that out cause? I use cable, like will it help anything, like it won't take away from the power supply or something like that, cause the fan on my video card is like amost touching it and I don'think thats helping to keep it cool at ahh, I don't need it so can I just take it out?Is your computer clean?

Solve : HP Scanjet 2200c will not install on XP?

Answer»

I am about ready to throw in the towel on this computer.   Essentially my computer hates my scanner.  I install the software, then install the scanner as the instructions tell me and then the computer gives me this message:    Cannot install this Hardware. An error occurred during the installation of the device.  The class installer has denied the request to install or upgrade this device.

When I go to device MANAGER it has the lovely scanner listed with, of course, a big exclamation point.  When I click on that and go to properties it says the driver is not installed.

My computer is a pent 4 (1.7) running xp home edition with service pack 2.

I have scanned the computer for any viruses, spyware, malware, ETC. using three different resources and it scans clean.  I have an HP Laserjet on the computer and it works fine, other than that nothing else except a mouse, keyboard, and monitor are attached to it.  I have very little software running on the machine.

Please help I am at my wits end!!! Quote

SIMPLE just to HP and down load a driver for your scanner but make sure you get the driver for Windows XPIn the first lines I stated that the scanjet is not working it gives me an error(which is in the post).

For reference and further INFORMATION I stated that the Laserjet is working fine as well as all other hardware devices installed on the computer, i.e. mouse, keyboard and monitor.

Scanner will not install
Printer installed fine as well as other hardware devices.

Any SUGGESTIONS?"Simple just to HP and down load a driver for your scanner but make sure you get the driver for Windows XP "

Already did that, and it gives me the same error message.

Solve : Unusual beep code?

Answer»

About three times a week my PC will freeze up, and I'll have to reboot. But during the post, I get a single long beep code, repeating over and over. I haven't seen a reference to this beep code in any of the lists. Anyone know what it might be?That often indicates an overheating processor.

Make certain the following is done:

  • CPU fan is operational at the correct amount of RPM
  • Thermal paste has been applied as per instructions
  • Heatsink has been properly connected
  • CPU cooler has been cleared of excessive dust
  • Your system is not overclocked.
Thanks, Rap. I think.

Wish I could return the favour re: your PayPal question... alas.No problemo, customer support has been very generous in their answers.

Have you resolved the beeping sound?Just researching the proper way to check the things you recommended. What is your CPU temperature?I downloaded a program last night that supposedly MONITORS that, and got a steady READING of 50 C.

I'm not confident that's altogether accurate though, because it never FLUCTUATED more than a degree in either direction, and it didn't look like very professional software. Quote

Use Everest Home Edition.

You can also use the BIOS to monitor temperatures.Gentlemen,

I downloaded and ran both programs and they were excellent. Raptor, my temp is running between 46C and 49C as I type this. Front side bus 133 MHz, CPU multiplier 15x. CPU fan at 2909 RPM, chassis fan at 2766 RPM.

Radeon 9550 Video Card
2 x 40GB HDD

DVD-ROM
RealTek Onboard Audio
Wireless keyboard/mouse

Thanks, fellows. When does this beep occur?Always on reboot, and always before the POST. It's the same symptoms every time, and it always happens after the machine has been on for several hours (we keep it on all day, and shut down at night). I've had it occur in three different scenarios: 1) I do a warm restart after a software install, 2) the system will freeze completely, and I'll have to shut off power and then power up again, 3) the system will shutdown and restart randomly and without warning; most of the time this happens while surfing.

It happens once or twice a week. Not enough to drive me bananas, but enough to cause me concern that this may be the beginning of something more sinister.

Sygate and AVG always running. AdAware scan three times a week.

I'm leaning towards the overheating theory too, because if I leave the machine off for 5 minutes the problem goes away. 50C seems a little warm, but not drastically out of whack.

Solve : LCD monitor shows static-like noise in dark areas?

Answer»

My LCD monitor (Dell 1800fp) just started showing very strange video noise in the darker areas of the image.  This occurs even with the monitor cable unplugged.  For a pure black screen, the result is a fairly stationary teal.  For dark colors, certain components of the color are exaggerated and the pixels jitter and shimmer similarly to TV static (e.g. dark red pixels become bright red flickering pixels).
This occured suddenly, for no apparent reason.  We've had very high humidity recently, and this HAPPENED late at night, so PERHAPS it was CONDENSATION from cooling AIR shorting something out?
Anybody have any idea what monitor component this might be and if it would be feasibly REPLACEABLE?

If your house power supply is 115V then you should set it to that.If it STILL does not work, you may have damaged the PSU. Try REPLACING it with an auto-switching model.Supplying LOWER voltage than PSU is set for will cause no damage.  In FACT, if you measure the no-load voltage, all will READ correctly.  It's a Switching Power Supply not a Linear Power Supply.

Solve : DVD Player Will read DVD but not data?

Answer»

Please help!!!!.
I have a Sony Vaio PCG-FR720. The DVD-RW player will read and play DVD movies, but refuses to read CD data discs or CD-Roms (game discs) or even acknowledge that they're in the drive.  Is this software or a hardware problem. Any suggestions. The Driver has been checkedIs this something that recently started?  Have you made any changes to hardware or software? This topic seems similar to one i read no so long ago. In that case it turned out that the dvd drive was faulty. Do you have ANOTHER DVD drive you can test in that computer. Or try the drive you have in another computer, to see if you still get the same promblems.I re-installed Windows XP (Original OEM) and SINCE then this problem exists.
As I said, it will read and play DVD's but  when I received a data disc with MS Office files on it, I COULD not access the files.
I could access them on another computer.
It recognised the disc was there, but said it was blank, giving the FREE space amount as that of the CD less the burnt data space.
When I tried to install a game CD (copied) it will not recognise anything there - light comes on for a few seconds then goes out.
For your info, this all occurred after moving my notebook computer from Hong Kong to mainland China.
The device manager says that it's working properly - but it's not.
Any advice would be most appreciatedRemove it from the device manager and allow for redetection.

Solve : adding already formatted hard drive?

Answer»

I am trying to install my hard drive from my old computer into a Dell Dimension 4500. BIOS is recognizing the hard drive, but it is in a continuous boot loop. It will not load Windows. Dell's support wants to charge me $100 to help me fix the problem. I am a student and cannot afford it! Can anyone tell me how to add an already formatted hard drive into this system as the boot drive? I would appreciate it greatly!!I assume your 'formatted' means 'Operating System' installed?
The result... too many hardware changes for the old OS to cope with.
Can you start in safe mode?Yes, I MEAN an os already installed! I have XP Professional installed. No, I cannot start in safe mode, last known good configuration or any of the options. You will have to reinstall the operating system. You can not install an Operating System on one computer, take out the Hard Disk Drive and expect the OS to function on another computer.  Chances are there that it will, but there is also the chance that it won't.Ok. Thank you. I have the hard drive I am talking about now installed as the slave. Is there a way to copy all of the software I have installed on that hard drive onto the original hard drive that was installed on the Dell which I had to re-install to boot back up? I am not worried as much about my data files as I am about the software and start up PROGRAMS. Some of the software I use I do not have available to re-install.The software you have installed will most likely no longer function if you copy it onto a disk and then install it on another computer. Certain registry entries and files not present in the folders you copied would be missing.

If you are eager to save the software installed, try the following instead of reformatting:

1. Before Windows XP loads, press F8
2. Choose last known good configuration and press Enter.

Doubtful that will work, but you can also try the following:

Perform a Repair Installation

How to perform an in-place upgrade (reinstallation) of Windows XPThank you!so what happens if the user has a slave drive with win98 on.......can they access the files...just for fun this question is.I could not access my files saved in my documents. It gave me an access denied dialog box. It also said when I right-clicked on the folder to check the properties that it had 0 bytes. I uninstalled my hard drive and installed it back into my original computer and everything was fine. All of my files in the my documents folder was there. The os I use is XP Pro. I don't know if it makes a difference, but I could not access any of the files hooking it up as a slave. Are you logged on as an administrator? No, I didn't try logging on as an administrator. Would I have been able to access the files in the my documents folder on the slave drive if I was logged on as administrator? Because, if I can, I will re-install this hard drive back into the Dell as a slave if I can access my files and software. Quote

...Would I have been able to access the files in the my documents folder on the slave drive if I was logged on as administrator? ...

That's what I would do.  You have to have full administrator rights, not necessarily be the Administrator.  It's a Dell, I don't know what their default setup is.

I hope somone who reads this knows what having no power response what so ever might indicate.

Does the power button seem damaged? Does this concern an AT or an ATX SYSTEM?

Does the power button lead DIRECTLY to the PSU (AT) or to the mainboard (ATX) ?

Try removing the Power Supply Unit from one of your older Emachines and replace the PSU currently seated in your sister PC.

Solve : Installing an Ati Radeon 9800 Pro in a new comp?

Answer»

Alright, I'm here for help installing a new Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256 mb video card in a new computer. The trouble is, the manual says to install the drivers, remove your old video card, and install new ones. This is a new build, so I don't have any way of installing the drivers, cause I can't install them unless I can see the screen, which I can't do WITHOUT a video card! What do I do? Please Help!

my stats (if these help):
Mobo - Asus A8V
CPU - AMD Athalon 64 3200+
1 gig of Corsair memory
Ati Radeon 9800 Pro 256mb
Creative Audigy 2 ZS SOund Cardhttp://www.buildyourowncomputer.net/step8.htmlYou can uninstall the drivers with the videocard present. Use DRIVER Cleaner to do so. Follow the instructions to the letter.

Once uninstalled, shut down the computer and insert the ATI/Radeon 9800Pro 256MB. Download drivers from http://www.ati.com. Do not use standard videocard drivers.I don't think you understand. XP is not installed, and I can't do so until I can look at something on my moniter, which I can't. In other words, I think the card is broken, and I can't fix it. I think. You will not need drivers to install XP, it will run on VGA.
Install the drivers after the XP installation is completed.
Don't forget to set your bios to AGP video first. Quote

Make certain the card is properly seated.

Connect the MOLEX power connector to the videocard, otherwise it will not work. The card comes with a power thingy that it tells you to plug into the PSU, and then hook your hard drive up through the card. Also, I can't switch my BIOS if I can't see anything. Seriously, nothing happens to the moniter. Advice to switch BIOS or do other things won't help until I can see the screen.
  • Make certain the card is properly seated
  • Try using a different molex connector
  • Make certain the VGA cable is connected
  • Reset the BIOS

Did you take precautions against electro-static discharge when inserting the videocard?

Does the fan operate when you turn on the computer? The plot thickens...

So your question would be, "I have just BUILT a new computer and when I turn it on I get no bios post screen"?

Any beeps?

Solve : SCSI CD ROM read error...?

Answer»

Hi,

I have just inheritted an old Dell Workstation 400 from where I work.  I opened it up to discover a 36GB 10k SCSI HARD DISK, and a SCSI CDROM Drive.  The PC will boot into the HDD running currently WIN98, and report in My Computer and Device Manager that the CD Drive (NEC CD-ROM 646) is there and is functional...But when I come to use a CD, I get the "Drive D:/ is not accessible. The Device is not ready."  The Drive will after a while spin up FULLY, then drop, and just continue to spin up partially, but whatever I do, I cannot access it.  I have tried with numerous Discs too.  Is it a sign that the Drive is knackered?  If it is, it's a bugger, because I am also having trouble getting the onboard IDE ports to recognize a HD or ROM Drive.

Anymore info needed, just say.

Solve : After format of HD, XP cannot find my soundcard?

Answer»

I formatted my Hard Drive, fresh install of Windows XP.  I installed all Drivers and the only problem I ran into was with the soundcard.  I have the latest drivers from Creative, for the correct soundcard.  I tried removing and re-inserting the card.  I have tried everything I can think of, but I still get the window when installing the drivers, "No SoundBlaster sound card found".  Any ideas??

Here's my system...
Abit NF8-V Mobo
AMD 64 3000
1 gig Mushkin PC 3200 dual 512 sticks
ATI Radeon 9800 Pro
Sound Blaster Live! 5.1 Digital
Maxtor 40g HDD
Western Digital 80g HDD
Sony DVD Writer
Sony CD WriterObtain the correct drivers. These (Sound Blaster Live! - LiveDrvUni-Pack English) often SEEM to do the trick. That is the driver  pack I have been using.  Hmmm, if it is an incorrect driver issue, I'll try one of the other ones too.  This changed nothing, I'll post BACK if I find the right drivers.Type dxdiag in the run box.......it should report erors!

Or could it be this:

Sound Blaster Live - Speaker Problem Fix

1) Locate the file called ctsurmix.exe in your Creative SoundBlaster folder.
2) Right click it and select properties and then compatibility.
3) Select win2000 compatible mode and it should work again
dxdiag, got the message "no sound card found.  If one was expectd install drivers supplied by the hardware manufaturer"

Sound Blaster Live - Speaker Problem Fix ~ I am unable to do this since the Creative software will not even install since it cannot find a SB sound card.

I noticed that I have 2 multimedia audio devices showing exclamation points over the yellow "?".
1st~ PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0
2nd~PCI Slot 3 (PCI bus 2, device 7, function 0)

I am completely baffled.  I have tried ALL drivers available from Creative.  I have tried installing the sound card in EVERY PCI slot on the motherboard.

HELP!! this is driving me nuts!!
I tried installing realtek sound drivers and got rid of one of the sound controller problems~this one~ PCI bus 0, device 6, function 0 .  Now I am left with the other, which, I am assuming is the soiund card itself, since it shows the correct location.
OK, now I got the computer to recognize the soundcard, sort of.  It shows up under sound, video and gamecontrollers(SVGC).  Yet, it does not get seen when installing drivers from creative.  I still have the mutimedia sound controller issue, and no sound.  The SB sound card, in the SVGC area, under device manager,  in the properties for the Sound card, it says working PROPERLY.   yet under the sounds and audio devices in control panel it says no audio device.

OH boy now I am truly CONFUSED!!
Start from scratch:

1. Remove all entries related to the Soundcard.
2. Shutdown system
3. Remove soundcard
4. Boot system
5. Load Windows
6. Use a registry cleaner
7. Clean any remaining soundcard references manually
8. Shut down system
9. Insert soundcard
10. Use the original CD-ROM that came with the soundcard when Windows asks you to supply it with drivers.

Solve : Random question?

Answer»

OK, so I know why computers used to use floppys to boot up and I know it's still convention for computers to check the floppy drive first for a disk to boot up. I know this is helpful if your whole system is FRIGGED and you *need* to boot up using a floppy.
Here comes the question:
Is that the only reason why a system will try to boot up from a floppy first? And the reason you need to remove the floppy disk before booting up?
Cheers for any help, or pointers to where I can learn more about this.

PS-Are there NO women in this forum? You can change the 'boot order' sequence in your bios.
A drive, C drive, cdrom
cdrom, C drive, A drive
C drive, A drive, cdrom
blah, blah, blah
You get the idea.
Women? Where? YIKES!
There are some, and then there's Flame and rest of us.
Thanks.
I think I probably knew that (I'm sure it's in the back of my head somewhere!)....
I'm more investigating why it's stayed convention to boot up from floppy first.
I've been driving my mates mad with floppy questions for a while now. They're now telling me to sit down and shut up cause they couldn't be bothered with my ridiculous unanswerable questions anymore!
Cheers for the input though! Quote

Most BIOS are set to boot from the FDD by default. Either this is a LEFT over from the days when new PCs still came with floppy drives or it is to prevent having users who know enough to install an OS, but not enough to configure the BIOS, from having to enter the BIOS setup and change settings there.

Newer Operating Systems allow you to boot directly from the CD-ROM, removing the need for a Floppy Disk Drive.

Quote
...I'm more investigating why it's stayed convention to boot up from floppy first...

Hard drives are the SINGLE component most likely to fail in a computer.  This failure may be hardware or software related.  If the hard drive fails, there is no way to start the computer without a boot device (floppy disk or CD).  Bootable CD's have only been with us for 7 years (since Win98).  Bootable USB is beginning to show up now.  There are a lot of working computers in the world older than 7 years.  My primary computer is 5 years old and suits me just fine.  Not everyone needs (or wants) a Pentium 4-3GHz.  New technology costs the most, better to wait a year or two until prices drop.

Here's one to ponder.  Why is the hard drive "C"?  And why is the floppy disk "A"?  Might help to answer your original question, "A" comes before "C", so floppy is first.

Long Live the Floppy Disk, may it never die!
(While we're at it) Long live DOS, it will never die!

I'm not quite sure I want to see that

But, yeah I can understand what all ye guys are saying and it makes sense. Good, observation on the floppy = a:. I've always noticed that myself and thought it may have something to do with that

So basically, floppy has just stuck. I just find it so strange that people don't make CD boot disks. I'm a comp Sci PhD student and *everyone* in my department at University makes boot disks on floppy. It's just odd how everything else has 'moved on' but boot devices are commonly floppy. Weird-don't you think?
Quote

Boot diskettes are rarely over 1.44MB in size. It would be a waste of a CD-R if you ask me.

Plus, writing to a floppy is still easier than accessing your CD-RW copying program. Especially with all the automated programs that create a bootable diskette for you.

Solve : Broken CD Burner??

Answer»

Im using an Emprex DVD + R/ RW Writer 8 x External USB 2.0 Drive Burner using the Nero Express software.

I used to be able to BURN audio CDS no problem but recently I have TRIED to burn both audio CDs and have also tried to copy jpeg images onto CD using my burner.

With the audio CDs some of the tracks play on some CD players and never on the PC, or sometimes the disc cannot be read and contains no data whatsoever.

When I tried to copy my photographs onto CD they do not appear either. The CD APPEARS to remain blank. This is really really weird because the burn PROCESS appears to progress and finish normally and the software always states that the burn process has finished successfully.

Im using a re writable CD at the moment but the pronlem occurs on RW and R CDs.

It'd be great if someone could help, the Nero website is next to useless for help with this problem.

Cheers guys.  Does the same behaviour show on other PCs?

Have you tried to reinstall the copying software?I can't try the burner on another comp cos I don't have access to one except a laptop which has a built in burner. I will try and reinstall the software though and I'll let you know how I get on. Quote

Solve : Monitor display problem?

Hi:
I have TRINITRON 19” Monitor for very LONG time.  My computer crushed and has been reformatted.  It works well ever since except the Monitor.  I can hear the computer activity, but there is nothing on the monitor.  All started after I did some changes trying to fix the screen RESOLUTION by following up the help steps.  The screen resolution option does not work and the color quality gives one option which is “16 bit”.

Steps I did to fix:

Display property, setting, advance, Adapter, List All MODE.  I choose 800 x 600 PRESSED OK.  Restarted the computer.  While the computer starting I can see the Windows XP Professional display and it continue normal, but when it’s done I can hear the activity, but no long display.  I tried F8 to DOS while rebooting, click on directory services restoring.  But, I screwed up. Please Help!
You need to install videocard drivers.

To resolve your problem, do the following:

Hey everyone, I pray that somebody can tell me I haven't done the unthinkable. Here's what happened, and please don't laugh. I just moved from the U.S. to the U.K. and brought my COMPUTER with me. When setting it up in my new home I entirely FORGOT to change the voltage on the back of my cpu. Consequently, when I tried to plug in my tower using an adaptor, as soon as the plug touched the socket there was a loud spark and some smoke came from inside my cpu. I panicked and left the computer alone for 24 hours PRAYING that by some miracle I hadn't completely ruined it. I came back and changed the voltage on the back of the tower and plugged it in again (without a spark this time) and tried turning it on...nothing, of course. Could anyone tell me what I've actually done to my computer, because I have no CLUE. Have I fried my hard drive and lost all my files from the last 5 years? Tell me it isn't so! Please! Any help would be HUGELY appreciated because I'm rather distressed. Thanks in advance,

The CPU is the Central Processing Unit.

Try replacing your Power Supply Unit, your other hardware may have been saved.

Solve : Mutlipule CD / DVD Drives?

Answer»

I have four spaces on the front of my computer to PLACE cd or dvd drives, i currentlly have two drives installed one of each type, with them both connected together at the back and running into one slot on my motherboard with no more SLOTS avaliable, therefore if i wanted to add another drive bringing the total i have to three how would i connect it to my motherboard ?
is there such a thing as an adapter or something which tuens my exsisting cable from my motherboard to both my drives into a 3 ended one, therefore giving me enough connectors, or how would i get round this,
or would i be able to connect the new drive to the slave cable of my harddrives cable ??
any suggestions greatly excepted. thanks Most mainboards have two IDE channels. To each IDE channel you can connect 2 IDE devices.

There are only IDE cables available that have one or two connectors.

If your computer has only one IDE channel (Which I would find strange) you may need to make use of either SCSI or SATA.   Quote

Yes. Make sure both drives jumpers are properly set. They do sell adapters for the pci slot to expand to two more ide connectors, HOWEVER, it has been a while since I have seen one and I may EVEN have one laying in a drawer somewhere. But, if I  may ask, why do you need more than 2 optical drives?

Solve : wont turn on?

i have an amd 28oo turbo plus.352 ram when i turn it on it powers up but wont turn the monitor on.all fans are WORKING everything seems atached.have tryed another monitor but same events.i use windows xp.dont know what else to try. can someone help?More information needed.Have you tried a diffrent Graphics Card.Is this a new video card? Have you made any recent changes to your SYSTEM? Are you hearing beeps on bootup? Any clues at all? I HAVE MADE NO CHANGES. I JUST TURNED IT ON ONE DAY AND POOF NOTHING.NO BEEPS. HOWEVER BEFORE THAT IT WOULD STOP LOADING AT THE BIOS SCREEN AND I COULD GET IT TO DO NOTHING ELSERemove all your ram then try one stick at a time rebooting each time. If that doesn't work try the same trick with the ram slots rebooting each time. Do you get the drift, like playing musical chairs with ram & slots.update.i tryed swithing the ram sticks and checked ports still didnt work.so i started unplugging and plugging things back in.while the computer was turned on i unplugged the power supply and waited a couple of minutes and plugged it back in and turned it and i be darn if it didnt START to work. i have no idea why but who cares it works.mabe it will work for someone else.thx for all your help.im SURE i will need more in the future lol.Hi I just read your post, I'm having a similar problem, only difference is that in my case when my PC begins its boot process, it first sounds two (2) beeps and then nothing more happens.  Even the initial information like Ram info, Memory etc., none of that shows up, the monitor simply remains BLACK.
I find it interesting that you finally found a way to get it started by unplugging and plugging back in.

Can you detail for me exactly what you unplugged and plugged back in, so I can try this out too.

Thanks... VB Quote

Hello all,

I just bought a Dell Optiplex GX110 on ebay. It has a P3 733MHz processor in it. I was wondering if it is possible to upgrade to a P4 on this particular board. According to the board, it was MANUFACTURED in 1999-2000, the computer was assembled on AUGUST 12th, 2000.

Thanks guys.
