Has anyone else EVER heard of this happening? I have an HP dv7-1267cl laptop running Vista Home Premium 64bit. It has these "touch sensitive" BUTTONS next to the power button for turning on "MediaSmart" (which will not turn on, not that I want it to anyway), muting or un-muting the SPEAKERS, a volume slider, rewind, play/pause, forward, and stop, and one to turn on and off my wireless wi-fi. If I touch ANY of them, with the exception of the wireless button, Microsoft Excel opens up and goes to a blank SPREADSHEET. If I slide my finger along the volume control it opens SEVERAL windows of Excel as well as CHANGING the volume. I have Office 2007.

Any ideas? Thank you in advance.

I installed a TRIAL VERSION of office 2010. Now there's a "Q" drive showing up in my computer that I can't access. It doesn't even show up in Disk Management as a partition.
Anyone know what the deal is with this ?Is it a network drive? In other words, does it say "some SHARE name on some computer name (Q):"? For example, if the share name is "pr0n" and the computer name is "Hustler,", does it say "pr0n on Hustler (Q)"? If so, then it's a network drive. Simply right-click it, and then left-click "Disconnect."Do you have Roxio CD Creator or any similar products installed?It doesn't have any information on it, all it says is, "Local Disk (Q:)" There is no option to disconnect from it.


I have not installed Roxio CD or any other burning software..OK, YES I'm pretty sure it's from MICROSOFT Office. The link provides some info. on it.

Is there some LITTLE software print program which will allow you to simply draw a "box" with the mouse around some item on the screen, and then print only the CONTENTS of the box?If you use Vista or 7 (don't know about XP), you can use the Snipping Tool to draw a box around an area of the screen and save it as an inage, then print.

Both are good software, both are free, both does same things, choose the one you LIKE better.

You can take a screenshot of WHATEVER part of the screen you want to be printing out. It will save as an image file that you can print out later.

DANGER! CAUTION! DANGER! CA PC Tune-Up did not work for me and I believe it ti be a scam to obtain information from your computer. I installed the program, registered it with my e- mail etc., logged on ( I thought) and let it scam my computer. Then a "report" screen came on that gave a hint at what problems it found. When I tried to have the program fix the problems it said that I had to log in again. I did so TEN TIMES and it kept saying the same thing. I removed the program from my computer and then re-installed it and went through the same procedure with the same result. I called the given "customer service" number and after over a 15 MINUTE wait, an "associate" whose speech I could barely understand answered from India, Pakistan or somewhere (big surprise). More information was requested and I was asked if they could take control of my computer to obtain the information they needed to fix my problem! I asked if they could just tell me how to log in and was told no, they had to take control of my computer. I refused to do so and will now return the program to CompUsa where I was pretty much conned into buying the program when I went there to buy a memory upgrade.

It looks like you have to ad MUSIC to the mediaPool before you can put them into you playlist you make. Am I right on this?

Because I have a FUE folders one for Club music and the other for TV Themes and so on. So if I put them all in the media POOL I will have to go throu every SONG to put it in the right Playlist I make.

Am I right or can I ad music directly into the playlist I make??

Hi, I use Windows XP Professional version 2002, and i've been having issues when I OPEN Aol Instant Messenger and switch windows between IE or other chat windows, my computer will FREEZE, and about 30 seconds later a Window POPS up that says this:

Hello EVERYONE.

I have come up with this problem that can hopefully be solved.

I have just recently deleted an administrator account using 'control userpasswords2' in the run box. When i did, the administrator account was removed which i was happy about, until this problem occurred.

Whenever i need to access a program that comes up with a screen saying 'windows needs your permission to CONTINUE', the OK box is grayed out. I'm not sure if it should be doing that but i was WONDERING if anyone on this site could help me.

I actually just needed to use system restore. that way i GOT it back. But im still wanting to know how to REMOVE an administrator account. Its just that i think that could be slowing my computer.

My DVD drive doesn't seem to be appearing in the 'computer' menu and also, when i plug in my Ipod for example, it doesn't seem to be appearing in the or running the 'autoplay' menu when i plug it in.

I think it could've been me updating the BIOS. If so, how can i check my BIOS settings?

I downloaded this program called 'autoruns' and it gives you a list of programs and files. It also has check boxes beside the programs and files and lets you either enable or disable them.

Back in the old DAYS, there were a number of software programs that promised to add, or increase memory, and none of them worked. A very few people got rich and a lot of consumers were out $30 to $60, with no gain.

Alright... I've been putting all my music on my NEW computer, which has Windows Media Player 12. Everything has been going fairly smoothly until just now...

I got a 2-disc album TODAY that I've been trying to upload. Now, what I usually do with multi-disc albums is upload them, then change the tracklisting and then the album titles so it all goes together as one running album. So, instead of this...

ALBUM, DISC 1

01. Track 1
02. Track 2
03. Track 3

ALBUM, DISC 2

01. Track 1
02. Track 2
03. Track 3

And so on... you SEE this:

ALBUM

01. Track 1
02. Track 2
03. Track 3
04. Track 4
05. Track 5
06. Track 6

etc. etc.

So anyway, I'm trying to do this with this particular album, but as soon as I upload one disc of the album, it automatically deletes and overwrites the other disc. I've done everything I can think of to trick the computer, and all the things I usually do when the media player is being difficult about things like this, but nothing works. The media player for some reason simply will not allow the two discs of this album to COEXIST on the computer, even if I give them different artist and album titles. I've been dealing with various incarnations of Windows Media Player on a bunch of different computers for several years now and I have never seen anything like this before... Help? Please? I stopped using Windows media player before version 9 so I can't help you there. However, I always found that mediaplayer classic to be very good and problem free. You might want to try that. Have you tried to disable the auto web look up stuff? What I think is happening is the software is reading the names even after they changed.

Also you can try a usb drive and copy the FILES onto it and load the 2 disk then manually bring back the 1 disk with new names on the files.

I have a Dell Inspiron 1501 with VISTA home as my OS. I have used ROXIO 2010 to create a slide show and copy movies from my cam to a DVD for viewing not only on my computer but more for viewing on my home stereo components. I am continously having difficulty with this software from new updates to driver issues. Tech support is EXPENSIVE and very difficult to reach. Can you suggest an alternative software whereby I can make a DVD for photos or movies VIEWABLE on a DVD connected to a TV. Free would be nice but I'd pay for a better software than Roxio that's ok tooooooooooo.

PeterI have been using this one (free version) for a couple of months now. Very easy to use. No duds so far. The free version has a lead page that DISPLAYS indicating that a paid version is available and that you are currently using the free version. It is not intrusive and only is visible at the beginning for a short time. The added advantage i have found that it without operator input it sizes the length of the video (by COMPRESSION i assume) to fit as one video on a standard 4.7 gb dvd disc. Even though the video can be over 2 hours in length. I suggest you give it a trial and see how it works for your needs. The free version does NOT appear to be time limited.

Are you after subtitles for movies or video?

I RECOMMEND using a Video Player like VLC: http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
and then finding subtitles software (take ages creating your own and synch with the video) or just download premade subtitles from a site like opensubtitles.

The subtitle file is a '.srt' normally for example 'moviename.en.srt' (for english subtitles) and placed next to or in the same container as the movie. Links to the movie with the same filename and you should be able to toggle it on and off when playing, or pick from different languages.

All it basically is text sentences in whatever LANGUAGE and a start-end time for each to display (synchronzing with the movie). You could use software like Time Adjuster 3.1 to create/adjust the time what text displays.Thanks for the answer, but no im not looking for subtitles, the program im looking for might not exist, im looking for one of those "speech to text" programs like "naturally speaking", but the one i want is one that can type what is being said in the video, the only programs i found are those that you talk in the microphone and the program types it.

I have windows vista though and you just go to START menu and click on "default settings" button and then click on "set your default programs" or something other linked settings you want to change. Win 7 should be SIMILAR, as it's base is win vista. You don't need to do that. I made a dvd with nero 7 secure disc.
But i forgot the password.

Nero SecurDisc (That's how you spell it) uses AES-128 ENCRYPTION. The reason for encrypting a disc is to make it impossible for anyone who does not know the password to get access to the data it contains. If you are the owner of the disc and you have forgotten the password, then you fall into that category. Bad luck. That data is gone. Equally, if you stole the disk e.g. from a BUSINESS rival or relative or whatever, you cannot get access either. There is one way, however, a "brute force" attack. For this you need (a) a supercomputer (b) a suitable software program (c) plenty of time - a computer that could brute-force the OLDER DES encryption scheme in 1 second, would take 1.49 trillion years to break AES-128. The current record for breaking DES is a BIT less than 24 hours.

Think about it. What point would there be in an encryption product that could be bypassed by some guy who stole your disc and asked for a crack on a web forum?

...Its just that if i can get a program that just restores recovery partitions then i can probably get the Toshiba Recovery Disc Creator back and restore my computer to its origional factory settings...

I think this means:
1. You've erased or deleted the Recovery Partition and want to restore it.

If I use clon zilla to make a CLONE of my hard DRIVE and PUT it say on my Secandary hard drive.

If I MASS up something I am doing on my C: can I use the clonzilla copy I just put on my SECONDARY drive?

Most are from CDs, some from the iTunes store and others I got from Youtube or just online.And you cannot re-import them into iTunes? Very strange. Did this just start or has it always been this way? If it just started, what is new or different since the last time it worked properly?

This only happened last week. In my video folder where my documents is the thumbnails for any of my VIDEOS won't show up, either it be an .avi .MPG or .wmv. I uninstalled my ffshow drivers and downloaded the NEW version of it and still have the same problem. They play fine with windows media player. Any help would be great.

Sometimes this fixes it by DISPLAYING the thumbs. You can also change the view to another view such as detailed view and back to thumbs to reinitialize this feature under VIEWS function of the opened folder containing the files.

When I try to SEARCH for album info in Windows Media Player, I get an Internet Explorer Script Error (attached). After I press yes or no, the page will not load. Does ANYONE know why this happens? I enabled an option in Internet Options that allows all scripts and that SEEMED to SOLVE the problem, but that is unsafe. Is there another way? Thanks in ADVANCE.

Hi everyone. Just a small question..

I have got a computer at my work that is used for browsing internet only via firefox.
To STOP people playing with files and accessing other areas of the computer I have disabled the explorer via a batch file (taskkill /f /IM explorer.exe) that runs in startup.
I have added an addon to firefox that has also limited users so all they can really do is browse, all other SETTINGS have been removed.

My question is, how to get the account to LOGOUT after the person closes the browser?

I have tried ways such as:

But it seems to FAIL. Getting people that use the computer to press ctrl alt delete seems to complicated.

I think I am ready to upgrade. I am considering using "LAPLINK PCMover Windows 7 Upgrade Assistant" to do the upgrade without shifting files to some external memory device.

I don't think it's possible to do a straight upgrade of XP to Windows 7.Although, as kpac mentioned, this can not be done using a normal Microsoft Win 7 upgrade disc, APPARENTLY Laplink has developed software that can, indeed, do this. Since your COMPUTER is new, have you already accumulated a lot of files that you'd want to transfer over? If not, why not just use the Win 7 disc to do a clean INSTALL?

I am TRYING to EXTRACT a WINRAR(evaluation copy) file.When Iam going to extract,it shows a WINDOW like "Next volume is required","Insert a disk with this volume and press ok to try or press cancle to BREAK extraction.So Iam enable to extract it.Please help me.

I think the "file association" in Windows XP may be the problem. See How to change or select which program starts when you double-click a file in Windows XP and check your system to see whether it's file association is set correctly.

Alternatively, you can uninstall and then reinstall Excel 2007. That might FIX the problem.

I'm simply entering numbers in cells, these numbers are then used to calculate a total at the bottom of the sheet.
The spreadsheet I use has various worksheets which interlink and calculate different information ALSO. The problem I have is when I enter the Numbers into this specific column and then do other work on the attached worksheets when I go back to the original column the numbers have changed. I opened an attachment word doc in outlook y'day and did QUITE a lot of changes
however forgot to 'save as' onto my computer.
I shut my computer down over night and this morning REALISED my mistake
i have looked in my temp folder and in recent docs but cant find my amended version

is there anywhere else i can LOOK to find my amended word doc?1) search your computer for the file name
