No, I haven't found a copy of garageband for windows, but, i have found something that is near identical to it. However, it is not free, but not extremely EXPENSIVE either. The program is called Mixcraft, it actually looks and works like a modified copy of the garageband program. If you do not know what garageband is, google it.

Mixcraft is a program developed by Acoustica, it took me about an hour of digging through google to find an artical that mentioned it as an equvilant to garageband. The only bad thing, its not free, but for a mere $50, its worth it if you want a good music composer, quite fun to toy with. Others will probably obtain this by questionable means, but thats there business.

Question: What antivirus software is out there that is compatable with Vista?

I just spent the last 6 hours trying to fix my husbands computer. Here are the details.

Vista computer, running internet explorer, outlook express mail and up to an hour ago McAfee antivirus.

I kept going in circles trying to upgrade microsoft. McAfee wouldn't UPDATE. Seems there was missing components after a microsoft upgrade. Not sure if that is what caused it but my husband said the PROBLEM started with the upgrade back on the 13th of November. Numerous attempts to fix McAfee. Used their autofix. Messed up Vista. Tried their un-install. Still left parts of McAfee. Did an un-install using Remove programs and finally GOT rid of it all.

Totally updated Vista now but have no antivirus software. The computer seems to be working fine. Mail and internet works. Clock in gadgets works. Fingers crossed.

What antivirus software is out there that works with Vista? I don't MIND paying for something if I don't have to go through what I just did. (Please list freebies too as I don't mind upgrading after trying something out).

I use Outlook. One of the kids was trying to retrieve her phone numbers and synchronized with Motorola Phone Tools. I don't know if that has something to do with my problems, but now I can't add a new e-mail address in my contacts. If the printer uses a power module

Follow the steps below to ENSURE power is properly supplied to the printer:

I'm considering releasing the source code for my programs I made on my blog. As I understand it, the 'GNU General Public License' will PROTECT my source code so It remains my property. What I want to know is, What happens if someone claims the code is theirs? Can I report it?

The GPL is a license, if someone violates the terms of that license you will have to go to court and prove the violation.But there would be no way to prove it. They could claim it is theirs & I don't like the idea of going to court, what happens if the other person is on the other SIDE of the world?If you choose to publish your source code to the public you ALSO have to prepare for the possibility of misuse. This is a problem several open source projects have faced.

Several large companies have violated the GPL and it can be hard to do anything about it unless you have the FUNDS for a lengthy court battle. And it can get even harder if the violator is based in a country on the other side of the world.
I don't really know what to say except: Welcome to the real world, where the good guys don't necessarily get the girl in the end and where the bad guys often get away with it.

If you do choose to PUT your source code online I suggest you post it on a hosting site for open source project like SourceForge. Then you at least have a verifiable date for when you uploaded it. Anyone who wants to claim the code as theirs would have to prove they had it earlier than that date.

Okay, when I try to delete a highlighted message in my INBOX, or in any local folders, it does not delete. The BUTTON just does NOTHING. The delete word on the file menu or the Edit menu is not highlighted and does not work.

I just want to delete messages. It worked for years.

Start Google Earth.
Select "Strumenti" from the menu bar and click "Opzioni...."
Click the far right tab called "Generale".
You should see a frame with the text "Impostazioni della lingua".
In the drop down menu in this frame select "English".
Close the warning that pops up and close the menu with OK.

I got a new computer a couple of months ago, and I was real excited by the fact that I'd FINALLY be able to watch those QT trailers in HD. SO I downloaded QT and installed it, and for a short time (2 days, MAYBE) it WORKED fine, but now, whenever I try to use it, it shows a scrambled screen for about a second, then it says Firefox has performed an illegal operation, and/or there is a problem with a plug-in on the PAGE, which then closes my browser. Ok, I KNOW with Norton, you have to GO through alot of steps to get it off your computer TOTALLY... is it the same way with MCAFEE? or can I just "Ininstall"? I am going to switch to AVG and zonealarm since it has been so great on my other computer.Just try to uninstall through Add/Remove, and see, if it'll give you any problems.
After uninstall, restart your computer, and watch for any error messages.

I have an Intel Pentium 166MHz w/MMX computer and use Windows 98SE. Recently I installed Earthlink's WebMail to use for sending/receiving email after my Netscape 7 email PROGRAM malfunctioned. But lately I notice that email messages are going to BOTH PLACES and I am very confused because I am unable to reply or even print a message from Netscape. It seems as if the two email programs are competing with each other. Since I prefer using Earthlink WebMail, should I uninstall my Netscape 7 email program and hope that my messages would all go directly to Earthlink WebMail? Is there a risk in uninstalling? jandalI have no idea how you have Netscape set up but I see no point whatsoever in keeping it if you have an Earthlink account and your Earthlink mail is working, which it apparently is. I USED Earthlink for 5 years or more until a change of telephone providers in the area forced me to change to EMBARQ.

You can access your Earthlink mail via their WebMail interface and/or receive your mail in an email client installed on your computer, such as Microsoft Outlook Express, Microsoft Outlook, or Mozilla Thunderbird. Netscape won't look for new mail until it's open.
If you're still using Netscape, so you have to open it, you can disable mail pick up, under account settings:
"CHECK for new messages at startup".

The first place to check is Add/Remove PROGRAMS...
If not travel to the Apple folder and see if there is an uninstaller...
If still no luck hit the iTunes FORUMS for advice.

I'm trying to copy (clone) my HD to a larger HD using Partition Commander 10 Pro. It tells me that the target is using files and Windows won't let it proceed. Apparently someting is running in the background. What? How to find it? How to shut it down?
Windows XP Pro - homebuilt AMD. I did copy using using Drive Image 7 but it didn't TAKE, after which I formatted before starting with Commander.hi there, one method for copy your hd would be to make the one you are copying int a slave by setting the JUMPER pins at the bottem ho the HD and the one that you want to copy on to a master, then you could simply hook them both up and drag and drop everything that you want to copy. another would be to first back up your HD onto disc(s) and use the backup to move everything, both these methods do not need any special SOFTWARE but you will need to have an operating system on the larger HD. a third option would be to use the files and settings transfare wizard, located in the system tools folder and can be found by clicking Start/All Programs/Accessories/System Tools. I hope these 3 options help you, good luck.The above method will NOT work.
You cannot simply drag and drop files to another hard drive...it will not boot.

fultn here's the easiest method to accomplish this.
Install the new drive as a slave.
Travel to the new drive manuf. site and DLoad their utilities to create a bootable CD.
Boot from the CD with the new drive INSTALLED as slave and use the "clone" feature on the utility CD.
Power down.
Remove the old HDD and install the new one jumpered as master and hooked up to the end connector of the IDE cable.
Power up and Voila' your system should boot with all your data intact.
Double check everything to make sure it runs and you should be good to go..

You can then add the other drive as a slave, format it and use it for extra storage.

I'm not too computer savey, so please bear with me.

I'm having problems with my CD Reader. I recently purchased a new hardrive, and I've had to download and install drivers. When I installed Windows, it worked fine, but I just tried it for the first time other than that, and it doesn't SHOW up in My Computer, nor will it read any of my discs.

I have a Sony Vaio notebook. VGNFS790 model. The DRIVE is called QSI CDRW/DVD SBW-243. The device status is as follows:

Windows cannot start this hardware device because its configuration information (in the registry) is incomplete or damaged. (Code 19)

I've tried uninstalling and reinstalling, yet not luck. I've been downloading drivers from the Sony Vaio website for my model.

So I have two questions: Would have downloading and installing a CERTAIN driver caused this problem? And, is there anything I can do to fix this? Thanks

Ok... here is something strange...

I am a member of www.hak5.org and their recent episode mentioned Ubuntu Studio, and the link to it at www.ubuntustudio.org

I downloaded the ISO and the checksum is good, and when TRYING to burn with Nero 6 I get the request that it wants to burn 800MB to a 700MB CD-RW Disk, it doesnt like a DVD-R or RW and for the heck on it I popped in a CD-RW and it then said not enough space ( obviously ).

Anyone SEEN this before where an ISO only likes a certain flavor, in this case CD-RW even though the CD-RW's are only 700MB Max STORAGE??

Not sure if this is a Nero issue or if I should contact Ubuntu support to see why their ISO is requesting only a CD-RW, since I have never seen an ISO be media specific.

To me I am thinking its Nero 6 goofing up... what do you think?

DaveAccording to the site it's a DVD image which would ALSO explain the image size. (Although you can get CDs with an 800 mb capacity)

Have you tried burning the image with another burning app?
You could try CDBurnerXP for example... it's free.Or select the overburn ( terminology ? ) option in Nero which allows you up to 15% additional space over CD capacity...

Just built a new AMD dual core system on an MSI motherboard, tried to boot up my existing raid 0 discs but no good! The discs came out of my previous AMD system (MSI m/b) I thought I had a duff processor but its ok - I installed XP Pro on a fresh disc & all is ok. I now cannot access the raid although it shows as healthy. How can I boot it up to get my data back ( didn't back up) I can only get as far as CHECKING DMI pool data! AAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHGGGGG someone help please.

Which Raid controller are you using ( MFR, Model etc )

Is it IDE/SATA/ or SCSI?

Is it onboard ( built into the motherboard )?

Some RAID controllers are not Fail Safe and a wrong action can break the set, while the top end and newer are usually able to rejoin a broken RAID Set or Array.

Is it RAID 0, 1, 5 etc or 0+1 etc?Hi, thanks for the reply:

JYes, it sounds like the boot stripe is missing...

It would be great if you had an emergency repair disk to be able to fix this, but without one, you will have to manually go through the process or full rebuild.

If able to, I'd pop in another HD into the system without RAID, put an OS on it to be able to access this RAIS set and backup your data before you go any further to avoid a total lossof data. If you dont have a way to back up Gigs of data, then you can attempt to move forward without a backup, but at your own risk.

You should be able through your BIOS to select the RAID set as the First Boot Device or Boot device before any other Hard Drives, and as long as the stripe is not shot on the MBR ( Master Boot Record ) it should boot being that the RAID set is good.

If already set up this way, you can attempt a reinstall of your OS to the RAID set in which you select REPAIR instead of Clean Install, this will overwrite system data and replace the boot stripe etc. This is the easiest method, but you will have to perform clean up afterwards to reinstall games programs etc possibly that didnt like the repair process and clean registry.

You could also if you have another system of the same OS, use a BOOTABLE Floppy, Thumb, or CD or DVD to access the RAID controller and drop missing system files back onto the RAID set to try to get it to boot, but this is more involved and only is you see a message like NTLOADER Missing etc.

If you get a black screen without NTLOADER or any other missing files then, I'd try the REPAIR process through your OEM CD or DVD set that came with your system or OS upgrade etc. Boot off the media and select this method. Through the rebuild you may have to select F6 to give Windows the RAID drivers it will need to associate with the controller, otherwise it may try to install to 1 on the drives vs the RAID set. After pressing F6 after booting off of a Windows install CD or DVD and being prompted to do so in the bottom LEFT corner of the screen you will need to put in the floppy, CD, DVD, or thumb drive containing the drivers. Easiest method is Floppy Drive, although MANY systems and users have done away with them years ago. This is one of those applications where a floppy is worth its weight in gold.

If you dont have any software for the RAID controller with low level drivers, you can try to perform the REPAIR install and see if Windows will detect the correct RAID drivers. 9 times out of 10 it will not have the latest drivers to associate, and the 1 out of the 10 time is usually because the controller is so old that the drivers have been bundled/integrated with the OEM Windows install like the older printer drivers etc.

DaveYep done that! I get to the repair bit & it states that it cant find a previous version of windows! The repair console won't go any further. Yet I know I have not deleted anything. I've tried swopping the drives around but it's still no good.
JInteresting.... Next move for me would be to try a reinstall and overwrite everything if nothing too important is in the drive, or pop in an IDE or SATA drive in without RAID, install a clean install of Windows to that drive, then reintroduce the RAID set with the IDE or SATA driv ethat bridges the NTFS data access for the drives and OS, Id then backup whatever was important off of that RAID set and then blow the set clean and install clean build, then move data back to RAID set.

If you have a 3rd drive to run without RAID and your case will HOLD a 3rd drive being a full tower... that is the trick I'd do above... If desktop you can set drive safely of to side and you may need as P connector Y splitter/adapter if shot on P connectors

EMail address removed to prevent Spam.Try uninstalling the game, and then run Karens Registry Pruner against the system to remove orphan registry entries for the flight simulator. Also go to program files and remove the folder if it is still there after these 2 procedures to be sure that the install is CLEAN before attempted again.
Some PROGRAMS have bad / dirty uninstallers that leave remains behind after removal and manual procedures need to be run to clean up the mess.

When adding extra features to a game sometimes there are also other files associated with the added feature/object, such as DLL files ETC. Missing these can cause the game to puke when it expects a handler that is missing when launching the program.

I am running Windows XP Pro
I was having a problem with Windows Media Player V11 a while back and for some stupid reason I deleted all of the "monitored Folders" in the "Add to Library tab" Well i could not get anything to play so I went back to V10 and everything worked just fine. Today I decided to upgrade to V11 and I have the same problem.
I have attached a screen shot of what the tab looks LIKE in my media player. I try and add some but it never keeps them.
I know that there are some system files that you need.

Does ANYBODY know how I can add these folders back and where they are kept.

When I un-installed V11 it removed it, but it went back to version 10. Then I re-installed version 11 and I have the same problem. my friend has a SETUP file for win media v10,so is it safe to install it on win XP SP2?If you are referring to Windows media player, then yes it is, or at LEAST I can safely say that I have had no troubles with it... It does require you GO through Windows Validation or whatever they call it to ensure you have a valid copy of Windows running before they will let you install it. Does the same thing with ie7.

I bought a used Compaq armada m700 laptop Pentium 2 with no operating SYSTEM, when I try to load Ubuntu program it starts to load but then goes to a black screen and the computer doesn't respond. the computer originally had the windows 98 install. any IDEAS?It's most likely a hardware mismatch... I would verify with http://www.xubuntu.org/ as I know they have very limited hardware support. Or you might try a different FLAVOR of *NIX such as RED Hat, SOLARIS, or FreeBSD

For the last few weeks, my OE can't seem to send my EMAILS to any users with yahoo.co.uk or hotmail.com addresses. ALL such messages come back with delivery errors from the Mail Delivery SUBSYSTEM. I don't think it can be my ISP as my other email accounts, on yahoo and hotmail, both work perfectly from the yahoo one. I think it might be to do with my domain which I use as my email address in Outlook Express and I am taking it up with them as a first option.

I am using Win XP - is it possible to start the disk defrag program before the windows menu screen loads? or to even have dos/command promt to start before windows? (My "really old computer" using win 3.1...lol...allowed me to run dos without running windows first, however I can't seem to do this with win xp!!)
Someone once showed me how to start the disk defrag prog. before windows starts on a pentium II comp running win 95 (i believe with an "F" KEY function??), however that was several years ago, and I no longer remember how to do this. Reason for this is I was told running disk defrag in Windows, even though you have closed all programs, doesn't WORK - you have to run the program outside of windows in order for it to work - is this true or not? I've been having problems with adobe flash player 9! When I go to the download site, I click on download and just FLASHES for a second but I never get prompted to download anything. I've gone to "stand alone" VERSIONS where I download it onto my desktop and then install. I look at my installed programs and there it is. But, when I go to play a short video, I'm prompted to install the latest version of Flash player, which I already have! Something is going on and I can't figure it out.
Does anyone have any ideas? I have desktop that's running on Windows XP.

They have been having alot of problems with flash lately so don't feel bad, it's not just you...I've used the flash uninstaller tool, re-booted and downloaded a new copy and still this hasn't worked. It's been very frustrated because I can't view any running videos! Is adobe flash player the only tool that can run streaming videos?
I've already ran a "clean registry" software that found some errors and corrected them. Could it be something it's not correcting in my registry? I've read on another forum that it could be an issue with IE 7, which I have. Could this be a possible problem?

He's been using that for months. I don't know what going on with internet explorer 7??When IE 7 first came out there were alot of issues with it...you could try DLoading the latest version and just install it over what you have...this may or may not solve the issue.

In the meantime Welcome to FireFox !I tried to download IE 7 again, but it won't download because it detects that I already have it installed. What my internet PROVIDER suggested is that I change my user profile (under User Accounts) and then try and download flash player. Not sure I want to try that since I'm now very happy using Firefox.

But, after reading the disclaimer, I'm really not comfortable going through those steps. This is a problem I've been having with Spoolsv.exe, which as you know is the print spooler service. Apologies if this belongs in the windows, hardware, or drivers forum. Forum mods are more than welcome to move it.

The computer:
I'm running an Alienware Aurora-M 9700 laptop with Windows XP (fully updated), 2.2 Ghz Athlon processor, 2 GB RAM, 2 80 GB drives in RAID config (which has failed, but that's another story) and a bunch of other stuff I will post if asked.

When it first started:
I got a virus over the summer that Symantec was useless to do anything about (I had symantec antivirus installed & up to date and it found nothing). My first clue was that whenever the computer started, I got an error with spoolsv.exe, with the computer asking me if I wanted to debug it. What happens is a window from the "Visual Studio Just-In_Time Debugger" pops up and tells me that:
"An unhandled win32 exception occurred in spoolsv.exe [2864]".

It gives me the option to debug, and if I do, it tells me that:
"Unhandled exception at 0x7c93426d in spoolsv.exe: 0xC0000005: Access violation reading location 0x000696b8". I can't do much more after that except display assembly code, which doesn't really help.

A few days later, I noticed that clicking "view workgroup computers" brought up a number of computers and printers I've never heard of. This of course tipped me off to the fact that I probably had a trojan of some sort going on.

What I did:
Like I said, Symantec wasn't much help. Once I noticed the networked computers, I deleted all the connections, and ended up running every cleaning tool I could get my hands on. This included Spybot & Adaware. Eventually I got a trial version of Kaspersky 6.0, which seemed to find and fix the virus (a trojan of some kind). I found that the remote desktop settings had been enabled in my firewall, so I fixed that. I ran HijackThis after destroying the virus and found nothing suspicious.

However, even with the virus found and destroyed, the problem with spoolsv.exe persisted. I did massive google searches and didn't turn up much. Interestingly, I checked and found that the size of the actual spoolsv.exe file seemed ok (57856 bytes, verified here as probably ok: http://www.file.net/process/spoolsv.exe.html)

Also, copying a known good spoolsv.exe over the one on my laptop had no effect, so it seemed like the problem wasn't with the service itself. Eventually, I found out that if I simply made it so that the print spooler service wasn't started on PC startup, I could actually just start it when I needed it, print, then stop it, and everything was ok.

This was an ok solution for now, because I'm in my last semester of a grad school program, and I'm planning on just doing a fresh install once the program is over. However, this solution didn't last.

What happened next:
A couple of days ago when I tried to print, I started to get that same error (even when I manually start the service). I did it a few times and I got it to work, so I grumbled and went on my way. But today, my trial key for kaspersky ran out. I shelled out the bucks for the new version, installed, and now my print spooler seems to have totally *censored* the bed. Every time I tried to manually start the print spooler, it started, but then when I tried to do anything (such as access the list of printers), or print from a program, I get the error noted above with spoolsv.exe. The service crashes, and I'm SOL.

What I did:
Another massive google search ensued. This time there was more info on possible configuration issues. So, I did the following:
1. Deleted all files in the c:windows/system32/spool/printers directory, as directed here (as well as many other places):

2. After step 1 had no effect, I manually deleted the registry keys for ALL of my printers and the driver files found in the .../spool/drivers/w32x86 directory (I also cleaned out the .../spool/drivers/color directory to be sure). This was as per these directions, which contain a superset of the directions from step 1:

3. After step 2 had no effect, I downloaded and ran CCleaner at the direction of several threads from this forum. This, perhaps unsurprisingly, had no effect.

Where I am now:
About to punt my laptop off a cliff. This thing cost way too much, can probably outpeform Deep Blue, and I just want to print-and I can't. I think it's still some sort of configuration issue, but I have no idea what else to delete or reset. So please-if anyone has any ideas about what else could possibly be done (aside from a reinstall of windows, which I can't afford right now in my last semester) I'd really appreciate it. I'm happy to post a HijackThis log, or whatever else, if it would be at all helpful.Ater doing all that you have done...

Why not just do a BACKUP and then a clean install...

Why rack your brain downloading, installing and running this and that...when the easiest thing to do would be a clean install...As I said, I'm in the last semester of a grad school program. I have dozens of programs installed to support the program, which would take forever and 3 days to reinstall and reconfig, and I'd need them up and running immediately. The inability to print, unfortunately, is less important than the inability to do my work. It is, however, ******* annoying.

Also, considering all that I've read in my most recent google search, I'm convinced that it's simply some sort of *censored* configuration issue and not another virus. Therefore I'm holding onto the extremely slim hope that there's one more file I could delete or one more registry fix I could apply and it'd all go away. If this isn't the case I'll eat the inability to print for another 3 MONTHS. But hey, can't hurt to ask for help too.Just an idea but why not just save your work to a file and throw them on a flash drive and print them on campus as needed ? ?

Run browser after browser...IE, Firefox, Konquerer, Iceweasel...and it just does NOT WORK with flash. At all. What I MEAN is that it loads the VIDEO just fine...say, you go to youtube.com - well, yeah, loads fine, but you press play, and it SKIPS. all. over. *censored*.

I've been about pulling my hair out over this...I don't get what the problem is. Should I just give up hope on running Flash on such a slow machine? Minimum specs for a MS machine are 450PII (at LEAST) and Linux is 800MHZ or above...and my machine, I believe, is a Pentium III Celeron - not great, but egh. Coppermine, I believe. But anyway, yeah...I appreciate any and all help. Thank you for your time.

I heard of Full downloads such as Avast pro and AVG pro that is supposed to be paid for its full version and you can download it free. other than that you also have a bunch more of free stuffs from office app to computer games and all of these are free, are those in any way legal? is it safe to download it? is it by any means virus free? is it advisable to recommend it to a friend? well for me that is new(it was just last year since i got my computer and just recently got it connected to the internet) to the "Online world" it just sounds too good to be true... I use F-Secure Internet Security with Microsoft XP. Right now F-secure is asking me if I want to allow "ntiMUI.exe" (at location C:\Program Files\New Tech Infosystems\NTI CD DVD-Maker 7) to start "Microsoft Register SERVER" ( regsvr32.exe, at C:\WINDOWS\system32). I do have the NTI CD DVD Maker 7 installed, I got it with purcahse of my computer. But why does NTI want to start Register Server, and what exactly *is* Microsoft Register Server? Is it necessary to allow this? How do I know it's safe?

I googled, but came up with nothing, except the worrying FACT that there is a malware out there named regsrvr32.exe.

I looked at the folder and it seems to be a 44 kb application. There is ALSO a blank wordpad file by the name ntiMUI.log which was created today at around the time F-secure started asking about the .exe -file. F-Secure doesn't recognize EITHER one as bad. Ok, so i use this program to convert my video files so i can put them on a cd.

As soon as I convert it, it spilts the file into a video file, and then another file for audio. Problem is I can't put both into windows dvd burner. Anyone got any suggestions?

I would give this a try. I used to use another program that was free, but I found out that it contain spyware which allowed the COMPANY to SPY on the websites the users go to. I've used KeePass in the past. It's free, open source (so no spyware) and uses pretty strong encryption to protect the passes. mkay i as DELETING and uninstalling stuff and programs from my comp and a few days later I realized something was wrong with my paint program

First it disappeared from the accessories file but i soon found it on the computer and put it back but now whenever I click on an image i've saved it ALWAYS goes straight to MSPAINT editor and not the image viewer =[ so I dunno what to do if anyone can HELP me that'd be great Right-click on an image file and GO to Properties.
A window will pop up. Next to Opens with:, click on the Change button.
This will bring up a list of programs. Look for Windows Picture and FAX Viewer, select it, and click OK.

I'm trying to create a boot disc with a normal 700MB disc. I have all the files I want to be put on the disc there, but when I go to the final step I get this:

In my version of Nero there is already a image preselected. Try looking in your Nero folder for an IMG file.I didn't find one..hmm..

Could you possibly upload the image for me? Or..I don't mind sharing it but it might be seen as sharing copyrighted content.
Plus mine is a IMA file instead of a IMG.

But you could use the method described by Nero Express. You'll need a blank floppy and then do this:

Hi, I need to increase brightness and saturation on a video I can see with variours mpg READERS LIKE Window Media Player, but I need to save the video with those changes, and I haven´t found any reader - most make thoses changes - that saves the changes afterwards. Can you help, prefrebly a freeware.. Thks a lot.You won't be able to do that with any video viewer (not one I've ever heard of at least). You can't just save a video with a NEW brightness setting, you would need to re encode the ENTIRE video. So in order to do this you would need a video editor, like Windows Movie Maker. (Note though that WMM only supports saving in the WMV format.)

But you might be able to find a player that saves the settings such as brightness so that when you open the video again, the player will set the same display settings you used last time. I'm not aware of one that has such a feature though, but maybe someone else do.You could maybe try VirtualDub or VirtualDubMod.
I have played with VirtualDub a little, but I'm not sure if it has the features you want.
Give it a try, it's free and easy to use.I know Windows Movie Maker can adjust brightness and effects.:oNot sure I fully understand you problem. Are you saying that your program will not make brightness, color saturation etc. I am using "Viedo Edit Magic" not free, about 65-75 american dollars. But excellent program. You can make changes in each video clip indivually and save it and and view it on the program not wmp until after you produce the production. Look it up on google "easy" download for free for 30 days.

I recently had to re-install windows after a problem with my laptop and am currently trying to load and watch DVD's using windows media player. However, everytime a DVD is inserted and tries to PLAY, the following error message appears: 'windows media player cannot play this DVD because it is not possible to TURN on analog COPY protection on the output display. TRY installing an updated driver for your video card' I am not sure how I can RESOLVE this and would therefore, appreciate any help on this matter.

Hi, i am going to restore my PC back to factory settings, in order to get rid of a few problems, however last time i did this when the PC went to LOAD up (once it had finished) it stopped loading at the point where my backgornd had appeared and nothing ELSE. So only a picture of the defualt xp background was up with no icons or windows toolbar.

At this point last time i phoned a pc help phone number (very expensive) and they TOLD me the run command to insert to bring up the winsdows toolbar and once inserted the PC loaded up as normal and their were no more problems ever.

so what im asking is for the run command to do this, i can rememeber it involves the words windows and system 32 i think.

You have to press ctrl+alt+del
Then go to file (right top) -> new task.
there you have to type explorer(.exe).

Jonas How are you restoring this machine exactly ? ?with my recovery disks Then the only shortcuts that will be on the desktop are the ones created when the machine was a day old...

well if you only have you're wallpaper.
You have to press ctrl+alt+del
Then go to file (right top) -> Click new task.
there you have to type explorer(.exe). And hit Enter.

That's the one that controls the toolbar, desktop icons, explorer,...
Just give it a try it would surprise me if it wouldn't work.

If you use the explorer command at the moment (when the toolbar is there) you get a windows with you're systeminfo?
What happens when you type systeminfo?

C++ isn't a language I've personally worked a lot with but I COULD suggest you check out Microsoft Visual C++ 2005 Express for example.

Well, I have a computer I was given. Since it had a bunch of STUFF on it that I didn't want or need I decided to format it. Well, I just finished formating the computer and reinstalling Windows XP when I find that some of the stuff on it can't be installed.

-Ethernet Controller
-Multimedia Audio Controller
-Universal Serial Bus (USB) Controller

-Video Controller (VGA Compatible)

And I'm not sure which ones I actually need. Because right now my main problem is that I can't connect to the internet. I know it was working before 'cause I had tested it out before I formated.

So if anybody could help me install these some how I would greatly appreciate it.

OK, I just got my NEW computer (AMD Athlon, Win XP Pro) last week, and after getting it up and running I decided to finally go check out some of those fantastic HD Quicktime movie trailers. I downloaded and INSTALLED QT 7.2 and watched a few trailers, then as I went to open another one, an error message POPPED up SAYING Quicktime had performed an illegal operation and CLOSED my browser (Firefox). No big deal, I thought, reopened the browser and tried again, with the same results. OK, still no big deal. I uninstalled QT and reinstalled it, same thing again. I can't find anything online about this, so how do I fix it?How much RAM is installed in that machine ? ?1gb RAM, 2.4ghz processor. I've seen posts of other people having problems with QT online, but I can't find any fixes.Bump
Uninstall QT7 in Add/Remove.
Then DLoad and install and run CCleaner to get rid of the remnants...
DLoad a cleam DLoad of QT7 and re-install.
After re-installing re-boot before running the program...
