I forwarded an e-mail to my HUSBAND that had volume  (MUSIC) on it. When he opened the e-mail and opened the attachment he had no volume.
We both USE the same computer but have different e-mail addresses.
How come I have volume when I open MY e-mail but he doesn't?

Hey guys, is there any downloadable free tool THING that can help my laptop cool down while im playing games? Don't LAUGH at me I'm a complete noob when it COMES to computersThere are apps like CPUidle and Vcool which yo can Google for. The thing is, they work by slowing your cpu down so your game playing experience is likely to be not as good.

The bottom line is that laptops can GET hot when you work them hard. You can get a little stand to put it on that will allow more air to circulate, I suppose. But real GAMERS don't use laptops.

I need some help if anyone can give it.

I just re installed win xp so the main account was the defalt Admin account and I installed my programs and it whent ok.

Then I created a fue other accounts that are LIMITED Accounts.

Now when I did that the main defalt ADMIN Acount became Hiden and I can only get into it in Safe Mode.

This is all ok but one thing.

None of the other accounts have the Lame Razer in the Start Programs List from the Desktop.

And it is not even in the Ad Remove Programs List.

So I thought ok go into Safe Mode and Log onto the Defalt ADMIN acount since I installed my programs and this one under the Defalt Admin account..

I did this and Lame Razer is not even in the Ad Remove Programs list in here.

But it is in the Start Programs List. And it opens and works.
How do I get it to show up in the Ad Remove Programs List and even in the Start Programs List in all the acounts???

And how do I uninstall it if it is not in the Ad Remove programs list?

If I go into my Account that has ADMIN Rights I do not SEE Razer Lame32 in the Ad Remove Programs List.

And if I go to Start Programs it is not in the Programs List here.

But if I go into
c:\program files

I see a Lame32 Folder

And if I go into the Lame32 Folder I see the lame32.exe file and if I try to run it by clicking on it nothing hapens.

Now if I go into Safe Mode and Log Onto the Defalt ADMIN Account I stll don't see it in Ad Remove Programs List but it is in the Start Programs List.

And I can run it by clicking on it in the List.

So something realy bad must have hapened how can I Un Install it???Lame is not a standalone program as far as I'm AWARE. It's a MP3 encoder/Decoder.That is what I thought but I did use it as a Program.

When I clicked on it I can pic ware to save converted Files and ware to open them and Bit Depth and so on.
If you re-installed XP all references to Lame should be gone...unless you did it differently than i do it...

My computer whent down and I did everything and it would not work.

So I put Win XP Pro. back in.
And you are RIGHT there was no Lame Installed after I was back up and running.
I have Lame on a CD.

So when I had everything up and running again I Re Installed Lame32

Now like I say I have one account with ADMIN Rights and one with Limited Rights.

Both of these acounts do not have Lame in the Start Programs List from the Desktop or in the Ad Remove Programs List.

But if I go to
c:\program files
I see Lame Folder and in it is the Lame32.exe file
and if I try to click it it wont rund at all.

Now the way always WORKED for me is by me cliking on it and it would open up and I could use it like a stand alone program.

So something whent way rong so I then thought I will just Un Install it but I don't know how.

Now one thing it does work in Safe Mode when I logon to the Defalt ADMIN account.
So this is realy getting crazzzzzy so how can I Un Install it even if I can't see it??

I know that it's free...but Mmm+ did a better job (when it runs properly) for me & is easier to use.  It lets you put the context menu entries that you don't use often into a different folder, as opposed to DISABLING or removing them.  I know I'm being picky...it just &*$ me off that it worked great before & now it's giving me a headache.And herein lies the Age Old dilemna...use an APP that only works some of the time but is easier to CUSTOMIZE...
Or use an app that works all the time and needs a few extra steps to do a task...

This will be my last attempt.  I'm stubborn.  Maybe this will help you help me.
I un installed any helpful context menu add on that I had.  Still had to re enter my serial key after startup.
The program is stored in C, Program Files, Hace, Mmm.  In the Mmm folder when the program is working properly there is a:  Help Folder, an install.log, a Mmm.dll, a Mmm.exe, a MmmTray.exe and an Unwise.exe

After a restart...when the program will not START,  the Mmm.dll file is missing from the Mmm Folder??
Should the .dll file even be in the program folder since it obviously dosen't like staying there?
Can it be moved?  I am assuming the .dll file is my serial key.

You could try making a copy of it and place it in the program folder ...Sorry I haven't got back sooner.  If I place the .dll file in the program folder after I re install the program it works fine.  After I shut off the computer...the .dll file is gone again.  I just don't understand why it disappears after a restart.Tell it to stop doing that...I've told it a LOT more than that!!   

Could it be a conflict in the registry ?
If so, what would I look for  ?

I'm new to the forum so 'hi' to all!

My question is: how can I get high quality screen captures from DVDs? I'm on a newer machine running XP and have your average DVD players like Media Player and WinDVD but the screen capture options are disabled. In any case, I RECALL from my previous computer that both of these made medium quality captures, i.e. JPEGs. Does anyone know of software that can make fairly high quality image captures off of DVDs? I have tried TRIAL VERSIONS of Any Capture, Mr. Captor, Snag-It and all of these simply show a BLANK or black screen after making a capture. The only thing that came close was PowerDVD but even in the bitmaps it creates the image was a bit grainy...any ideas???

I have been attempting to copy analogue audio recordings to my hard drive to enable me to burn them to CD. I am connecting the turntable to the amp and the amp phones out sockets to the two audio RCA sockets on the FRONT of my PC. I have also tried to connect using the LINE in sockets front and rear with an RCA two to ONE lead.

I have so far been unable to get any sound to my PC.. Is there anyThing that I need to do to maybe turn on the audio sockets or to get the PC to recognise them.

I am using Roxio Easy CD creator 5 Platinum software. However when I I open sound stream to capture the audio the only 'source' otions I have are; C:Media rear panel audio; File; MEDION BDA Analog Audio capture; Modem #line record; USB camera

Could there be a problem with the soundcard or can anyone suggest anything that I might check.

SOMETIMES the sound from my PC speakers is fine however sometimes I am only getting sound from one speaker and the sub woofer.

They work fine when I paly the radio through Power Cinema application but seem to revert to one speaker when I play CDs.

ANy suggestions welcome.

Since INSTALLING AOL9.0 w/McAfee antivirus a few weeks ago, I have had nothing but trouble with my computer. Running WinXP. Every time I try to open a new PROGRAM or new window, another window pops up telling me Microsoft Money is preparing to install. It then asks for the disk. What the heck is this and how do I STOP it?

Ive typed the code into google and done waht the WEBSITE say but STILL nothing. I know the service is avialable becasue my mates can connect and my sister who uses the same P.C, so why is it just mine?!?

I am working for a small business. We have 6 pc's that are on-line. We use 98. 2000 and xp. We also us outlook express and outlook. We are EXPERIENCING a problem with not being able to send EMAIL. THANKS JERRYWell.... You would have to "wipe" all of the information out... ALSO, Windows 98? It would be easier for you to buy the UPGRADE disk from a computer store, that will have Windows XP on it.... Windows XP is MUCH better then 98, etc. Especially if they will be using it for gaming, etc.

sounds good to meWell, you're welcome! Just note that, when you install Windows XP using the upgrade disk, that you will want to do a CLEAN install.... Doing a clean install, will "wipe out" all of the information on your computer, and install XP... It is best to do a clean install also, becuase if you do not, then you care technically using your OLD operating system... You don't want to do that....

Downloaded ICQ and i can read everything in english, but i need to be able to see the CONVERSATIONS in Russian. I installed the russian version of ICQ but it still didn't work.
What can i do to change the language?

I've recently purchased a new CD-RW drive which is a Sony. Two YEARS ago I bought Norton Systemworks 2003 Pro which has Norton Ghost. I tried this program with my old CD-RW (Acer) and I couldn't use it because the device didn't support the program so when I got my Sony I figured I'd try the program again and it worked! So I was finally able to do something I've been wanting to do for years; Create a restore set for my computer with all the basic software and configurations to save me time getting my PC back up and running after a hard drive CRASH. In order to make the set I reformatted my current HD and "rebuilt" the drive contents how I wanted it. Then I used Ghost to make an image on a set of bootable CD-Rs. My concern is for some stupid reason I partitioned my HD into two equal size drives. When I tested the set it completely recovered everything but I found that even if I partition to a single drive using the utility that came with my HD the set that I made will only set up a double partition. I don't have a problem with this except that my current 15 GB hard drive may be FAILING soon. I have a replacement HD ready to go but it is a 40GB. To any Ghost experts out there: Will there be a problem installing this restore set onto the new 40GB hard drive considering that it was made splitting a 15GB partition? ???TRYING to burn a movie I created. Using Pinnacle Studio 9. Editing and authoring are done. Ready to burn. Click on Create Disc and immediately says Burning Disc Complete, but NOTHING happened. Disc still blank. Light on drive never came on. Go to Settings and Media field says "No Media". But there IS media. It does recognize the burner Pioneer DVD104 1.41. Tried with no media, put in disc after it asks for it. Tried a completed DVD disc, it recognizes that it is not a proper blank disc. Reinstalled driver and firmware [latest]. Studio 9 is up to date with all patches. Tried -R and -RW discs. Don't have other burning programs INSTALLED. So far Pinnacle's response was to UPDATE firmware, which was already updated, but reinstalled it anyway. Still nothng. Months and months of filming, editing, etc, etc, and it comes down to this. I've installed VPN CLIENT 3.5.2 in a WinXP SP2 MACHINE, when I type in the PASSWORD and click on it, the computer STRAIGHT go to blue screen and restart.

I have an HP scanner that was working fine without a problem until recently. Now when ever I try to scan I get a message that states the scanner is being used by another application. Not that I know of. I have tried uninstall/reinstall and I still get the error message. I really need to scan something ...is there any way I can find out what other application is using the scanner and turn it off?pghgirl........You didnt mention , if possibly you have connected the scanner to a differant pc . If you haven't .....is your scanner connected to a USB port ....because its possible that it may well be that trying a differant USB port may resolve your issue. What operating system are you using and have you updated ANYTHING . Have you looked at your device manager to see if anything is flagged or has an exclamation point displayed .

dl65 The scanner has not been connected to a different pc...I only have 1 pc. It is connected to a USB port. I am using Windows 98. Based on your advice I looked at device manager and nothing is flagged or has an exclamation point displayed. I have tried a different USB and I still get the message that the scanner is being used by a different application pghgirl.......Ok , Is your pc plug and play. When you add new hardware does it tell you that new hardware is detected ....yada , yada , yada and then prompt you to either let windows search for the appropriate driver or if you have the installation disk to put it in the cd drive now ?
So here's what to try ....
First go into the CONTROL panel and remove the scanner .
next make sure that all the scanner drivers have been removed .

Physically remove the USB cable from the scanner to your TOWER ( at the tower end .)

REboot your pc and see if there is any referance to the scanner still there ........if theres none ........ then shut down.

Now get the scanner installation instructions and follow them to the letter.
I would think that it would say .....with your pc off .......
plug in the USB cable to your pc. Then turn on the power switch on the scanner.
Reboot the pc ...........after it boots up you should see a message box pop up down in the lower right corner to say that new hardware has been detected ...... It should prompt you to put the installation disk in your cd drive ......... It should load and you should see a message to say that your new hardware has been successfully INSTALLED ........Now GIVE it a try and see if it works .

I have many VHS tapes. I have bought a LG DVD player + burning and put it in my PC. Now I need:
1) To CAPTURE, edit images from my tapes
2) To save within MPEG2 format
3) To burn within MPEG2 format
4) To make above jobs with a free software, if it exists.

Will all those things be possible?

I have been told by tech SUPPORT people at one of our software providers that Windows has a SQL Engine that can be accessed in Windows and used to build a database. Can anyone tell me if this is so and how to access the engine?

I can ask them but they want me to sign a CONTRACT and pay them for the information on an hourly BASIS. I would like some verification that this would be possible and reasonable for the price they are asking.It is called MSDE, SQL Server Desktop Engine. Basically SQL Server light. It's real intention is to be used for application development and testing so you don't have to have a BIG SQL Server and a server. It can be used as a desktop database, but they hope that you will develop your application and then PURCHASE the server version to run it. You can find it here......

ViperI don't know of any program to do that, so I'd say your best defense is probably to try to get in the habit of doing things in a way to minimize the chance of this happening. One idea is, WHENEVER you take an existing file and are going to modify it but you want to keep the ORIGINAL, to open the original file, then immediately use Save As to save it under a different name. Then, close that original file and specifically open the new file so that any Saves while working on the file are saved to that filename, not the previous filename.

Another idea: Open Explorer and copy the original file to a safe haven before opening it from your regular location with Paint. Or, in other words, MAKE backups just before starting any file modification procedure.If it's a REALLY important PIECE of artwork, you might find that the Tate Gallery will look after it for you.Quote

I'm moving this week to a new house. I'll be keeping my DSL ISP, same telephone NUMBER, no changes that I can think of. I've got a D-Link wireless router configured so I can access the internet on my laptop. The question is... am I going to have to re-configure the router when I HOOK the system up at the new location? Or should I be ABLE to just connect everything back together and expect it to be up and running?

Check with your wireless computer to see if there are problems.u might also want to check the router LOGS every so often to see if any outside sources are stealing ur signal. unless of course ur router already is encrypted.

I am running Winamp v5 and somehow have set VIDEO files to DISPLAY full screen and cannot DETERMINE how to resize the screen.

Alright... This happened to me once... Go back to the device manager, find the CD drive(s), right-click on one of them, and hit update drivers... (Make sure that you are connected to the internet...) Now, just hit next for any box that it gives you about installing hardware... Repeat these steps to fix the other drive... Also, have you tried running a Windows Update by going to http://www.microsoft.com ? They usually have hardware drivers on there, so have a look... Keep in touch...

Restore Missing CD or DVD Drive
Reports have filtered in that CD or DVD drives will suddenly cease to EXIST in XP systems. Most often this has been reported in conjunction with program installations and Windows upgrades, but it has also happened for no apparent reason. This tweak will restore the missing drives after a reboot.

I read the FAQ section and found how to FIND the Outlook address and MAIL folders in computer (ie, go to 'SEARCH' and look for "pab" files (address) or "pst" for mail. I did the search and none are found? this is a personal PC and i'm just trying to tranfer mail and address book to a new laptop.

Does anyone know how to do this?Here is a memo I issued to my users about Saving/Backing up of Outlook (E.mails) - Follow this and then copy file to your new computer and import into outlook


To prevent the loss of your e.mail history take the following precautions to back up a copy which can be retrieved if your computer crashes.


1) Start Outlook.

2) Go to Top Menu Bar and SELECT File>Import and Export.

3) SELECT Export to a file>Next

4) SELECT Personal Folder File.pst>Next

5) SELECT Export to a file>Next

6) SELECT/HIGHLIGHT Personal Folders ( top of.selection choices) NOTE – tick include subfolders >Next

7) SELECT Replace Duplicates with EXPORTED Items.
SELECT Browse and select a location to save your file to
CHOOSE a new name for your file yourname+month (eg.johnsmithjuly) >OK

SELECT Finish

9) SELECT No Encryption and leave PASSWORD blank.>OK

Outlook should now begin to back up a copy of all incoming./outgoing e.mails and contacts.

okay so i turn on my comp and it shows the black screen with white text, then the norton go-back screen, the COUNTER goes down, then it says.
GoBack Internal Error
Failure code: gb_ui_support(1147)
press any key to reboot.
i cart get it past that screen so i carnt boot windows.
Any ideas with what the error code means and how to fix it?Can you boot in safe mode? Do you have a real Windows CD to reinstall if you need to? You might be able to get by with a repair install from that same bootable XP CD. Try that option. If no-go, we will try something else.

If it were me, I would get the data off and then format that drive and reinstall XP without Go Back.

Hi,

I recently purchased a secondhand laptop, which has a DVD drive and external CD burner (Benq - 48 x 16 x 48).

When I attempt to play a DVD I get a message saying "Windows Media PLAYER cannot play this DVD because a compatible DVD decoder is not installed".

Also, I am new to burning software and am unsure about using the burner. Do I NEED software such as NERO to burn CD's and does it explain how to do so?

Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Chris.You need software programs to burn CD's - usually some is bundled with the CD writer such as Nero or easy cd creator - Search your PROGRAM files to see if you have any CD burning software

You will also need software to VIEW DVD's - that should have automatically started up to play a DVD if it was installed.

I need to control a SMALL strip at the top of the screen and display a
banner. I have been trying to do this using a combination of vb and DirectDraw.
However, I really need something that will force the WINDOWS down below my
banner instead of COVERING them up. Is there a way to do this constantly,
with the exception of the screen saver, no matter what application is
running or deployed? If so, could you please steer me in the right
direction?

I did a quick search but didnt come up with anything so im asking here. I have a Compaq Presario 1200 with 6.4 gig hd, 460?mhz Athlon processor and 155 megs of ram. BOUGHT it used with Win2k allready loaded on it so i dont have the OS disk.

My problems: Havnt been able to get AOL (any version) to connect properly with the internal modem. (7.0 will connect allways on the 3rd try but page links and internet browsing still wont work). Also, i cant get my wifi card/drivers to install properly either.

Im sure the problems im encountering are settings in 2k that i just cant figure out, so im thinking about formatting and installing Win98se. I dont have this disk either so before i do anything, i wanted to ask,,,,any suggestions for an OS that doesnt take up much space on the hard drive and that is more personal (not business) user friendly? By the way, the label on front of the computer says "Designed for Windows 98"

Generations Millennium on a XP operation system (Sierra\Gen7m)

Have Generations Millennium v.program installed on Windows
95, 98 and XP computers.
On the XP only......... when you go to ANY field and click on that field information, the DATA information is indeed hi-lighted. When you make an entry to add, change or edit the data, the field information is deleted when you leave the field, the entire field information will disappear.

The XP acts as if it is ALWAYS in delete mode when you leave the field
to PERHAPS go to ANOTHER field. For each and every field you go to, it
will delete that field information.

Example:
Click on the Date "field" for 2 Feb 1880 (edit to >2 Feb 1881)
Click off the Date "field" for 2 Feb 1881 (the entire field is deleted)

Click on the Date "field" for Boston, ME (edit to >Boston, MA)
Click off the Place "field" for Boston, MA (the entire field is deleted)

Now you got the Date and Place "field" totally blank and gone!
And so on

What is going on? Any clues?

I'm trying to find a PROGRAM that will rip the audio from a DVD audio disk and convert it to WAVE, MP3. All the programs I've seen so far will rip regular DVD's but not the DVD audio version.

a friend TOOK a fishing picture, downloaded it to his MAC , then EMAILED me on my pc. i am able to open it up through win zip and VIEW the pic, but i cant print it. tried opening pdhotoshop with no help. whaT CAN I DO?What does it say when you try to print it? Any error MESSAGES?
