Outpost firewall is good, just as good as Online Armor and even the kaspersky firewall

I think that's the name of the SOFTWARE.  Thing is that this is a dazzle product I put in the 05 updates for the app an export but it still OCCURING.  When I go to capture video it DONT show anything then when I change some of the settings I'm ABLE to get some then it just quite's an keeps that image.  I have everything connected RIGHT except for this not working.  See Batman pc1) Google Dazzle software

tells people that the only way to know for sure if this works or not, is to put another hard disk in and try it.

No, but the idea is to have a backup in case something goes way bad. True Image is good.But IF you have trouble wit hit, you need another method to get back to where you started.
A simple method is to burn all of My Documents onto a DVD or two. Now you have a copy of you personal  stuff in case you have to do a full format and install of Windows and Programs over again. Which is not likely, but you are prepared.

Hi,  I was playing the game AION ONLINE.  My computer randomly froze yesterday and WOULD not reboot windows.  It would just circle from the startup screen to the loading windows with the bars going across back to my startup screen.  I currently am trying to reformat thinking that is the problem.  I am able to reformat the computer but when it comes to 12% and a certain file it says I have an error it starts on the same file everytime (drwtsn32.chm).  I have tried a windows XP HOME AND PROFESSIONAL CD. I have taken out each piece of ram 1 by 1 to try it and it still does not work.  I am completely confused and do not know where to go from here could my hard drive gone bad randomly?  Please help thank you.   Possibly my hard drive or something?

I have been using various versions of "Spin Doctor" a component of "Easy CD Creator" software for years and now i am having some compatibility issues with the program (mainly ver.4) and i also have ver 5 platinum (which is incompatible with win xp). Alan <><  Well fellow CH members I have been playing with it for about 4 hours now and it sure is a lot more detailed and full of features --much more so than my "Spin Doctor" was. I have successfully transferred one complete side of an LP to audacity. I have been flipping back and forth between the tutorial and the program trying to figure out how to get rid of the "noise" elements. It can be done but in "spin doctor" it is an automatic selectable function. I know that is a potential of overall project quality loss as opposed to Audacity (which allows manipulation of each wavelength). But God that's slow and i only have few remaining years with over a 1000 LP's to still transcribe. It is like having an sound studio. I do have on one of my computers another very sophisticated sound editing program (Dutch or German) that i purchased years ago that i finally gave up on as it wanted to make a sound studio expert out of you. Given that my auditory functions are not what they were decades ago and that less years remain on the clock than are behind me i feel i must apportion my PRIORITIES a bit more these days.However once i have learned more of the way it works it may become easier. However if i read his comments on his links to it the version he links to has limitations regarding its limitations due to the changed ownership and he implies some problems regarding "registration??". I searched online on how to hide the TASKBAR clock, using registry key and unfortunately it WORKED, the problem is now is that I can no longer view my clock no matter what I do

My steps were:

run regedit
Go to HKEY CURRENT USER\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Go to HKEY LOCAL\MACHINE\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Policies\Explorer
Make a new DWORD Value CALLED "HideClock"
and change it to "1" to hide the clock and "0" to show it

Hi HOPE someone can HELP. My monitor keeps blacking out every 10 minutes or so started off about every half an hour but getting worse.

It especially does it several times during the BOOTING up process.

Done virus and antimalware scans, and done a scan disc and defrag.

I did TRY and do a driver scan and it said several of mine were out of date but all of these sites wanted to charge to update my drivers and as I wasn't sure this was the cause I didn't go ahead.

Also didn't in case they downloaded the wrong drivers.

Any help appreciated.   How's your housekeeping.....have you cleaned out the case recently? Does  the monitor shut off....Does it stay on but go to  a black screen? How long has this been happening?Try different monitor, or THIS monitor with another computer.

I started installing this before I realized it won't run with Windows 7. I got several error/incompatible dialog boxes during install. I didn't want to cancel in the middle of the install for FEAR of having problems with th uninstall. Well, the install froze after most of it was installed. So I tried uninstalling it per directions on Trend Micro's website here:

 1 'Start > All Programs' menu does not list the uninstall option among 5 entries under Trend Micro

So how do I get this off my computer. It's causing it to run at crawl speed and even freeze up or become unresponsive, and it's crash dumped 4 times already.

Re-boot out of safemode and see...I had started REPLACING Windows 7 with XP before you posted and Trend Micro Pro is running just fine with XP. I had 3 separate paid version Trend Micro IS programs on each of my 3 PC's because Trend for my dell won't run on my emachines and Trend Pro for my big PC wouldn't run on my Dell (Win 7), and the emachines lacks the memory ect. to run Trend Pro so it's got regular TMIS.
 The license for my Trend Micro on my Dell is due so I'm going to run XP SP3 and Trend Pro on it till next April.

Should have come here in the first place where at least l get an answer.
Anyway, l sort of have a PROBLEM with Virtualdub which is certainly not life threatening, but it's happened to me on a couple of ocassions.
I have two video files (cd1 and cd2) which on their own, view perfectly ok using Windows Media Player.
I fire up Virtualdub (to join the two files), and when l open the first file, it says "AVI: Truncated or invalid compressed audio format detected (18 bytes should be 36). Attempting to fix".
The Vdub screen also says "Warning: NOTHING to output. Bframe decoder lag" and of course, will not procede to join the two files.
 I'm not that technically minded, but know how to "run" programs. So when l get this kind of message, it's over the TOP of my head l'm afraid!
Because l'm having real problems with my physical drive (will burn cd's
 but not dvd's, but that's another problem) thought l'd use Ashampoos' Movie Shrink and Burn as it burns movies to a cd as OPPOSED to a dvd. And guess what, when the first file was selected up pops the following message:
"An invalid argument was passed to method 'unspecified method' of '': unspecified argument".
So now l'm totally "out of my depth". Can view each file without any problem whatsoever, but can't seem to do ANYTHING with them?

I'm having trouble configuring my outgoing SMTP email account in outlook express. I need to configure it as a TLS encryption however outlook only has a checkbox for the SSL encryption. In the tutorial for setting up the e-mail there was a dropdown BOX to select TLS. Am I missing something?

Thanks.I see you have your email set up as an IMAP account.  Can you use POP3?  As a TEST, you might TRY creating another email account, as a POP3 account, and see whether the screens allow selection TLS. The title sort of says it all. I need to change the md5 hash of a .exe and I dont have the source so i cant recompile. I thought about opening it in hex and adding a EMPTY byte at the end and resaving but i think that may corrupt the exe. So anyone have any ideas? change the file you change the hash.

Why do you need to do this to begin with?This should be good.....well i know i have to change the file but its not as easy as opening it in notepad and adding a space and resaving it. SINCE its an exe I thought it would be different.

EDIT: I tried editing it in hex, and added a byte and SURPRISINGLY it worked. I tried it on another exe and it didnt work, so I guess it just depends.Use an executable COMPRESSOR?

Hello Folks!

On Scanning through the 'Junk Files' with WiseDisk Cleaner; it scours 'Windows Update Uninstall Files' & classify these under the same category(JUNK)!

Is it OK to safely remove all of these? I have not observed any other 'Junk File' cleaning utility classifying anything related to Windows Update as JUNK!

Similar advice is required against 'Windows Update Source Files'. Should I ever try to remove these as well?

If the update has been running for a few days with no problems I can't see why it would be a problem to get rid. I am using Microsoft Office 2007.  I am ATTEMPTING to do a mail merge from Excel to Word.  Everything is fine except the zip code.  It is appearing as a date.  I have formatted it as text in Excel, but it didn't help.  I've TRIED searching for an answer, but the only problem I've come ACROSS is zeros disappearing.  The advice given in that case was to format the zip column as text in Excel, so I tried that.

I had some FILE delete utility on my PC, but got erased when I REINSTALLED XP.
It "forced" files to delete, and worked perfectly. All I had to do was right click the file, and click on "Delete with [...]"

It changes the "sound setup" when one of the EXE's I choose is launched

You could specify up to 100 EXE's and each one could have different setups (Atleast if your soundcard allows it)

And when one of those launches, this app. changes your sound setup to the CORRESPONDING one

Also, when no LISTED apps. are sunning, it will change back to whatever the sound setup was

Being the dominant language for writing Operating Systems (almost all Linux variants are C, and WINDOWS itself is predominantly written in C as well) It stands to reason that it's not leavign anytime soon.


C# and VB.NET are another question entirely, and their success/failure depends on and has depended on the success of the Microsoft .NET CLR run-time; all programs written using the framework/CLR require the framework to be installed on client machines, which can be a hefty install. I used to program in PL/1 until 2000, it had been very popular on the West Coast but it got dropped like a hot Byte (eh potato) when that bl##dy COBOL got along.  Combined with ADF 3.1, PL/1 used to go extremely well. They claim that Woman Lib was the cause of the PL/1 demise, and was not longer supported by IBM.
Now I use VB6, but find there are too many restrictions/rules. Very difficult to learn.

I believe it is because of the FILE headers. iTunes will play some of my MP3S, but others it SIMPLY does NOTHING after pushing the play button. Is there a good program to fix the file headers on my mp3s? Does a little exclamation mark come up at the side of the TRACK you are trying to play? If so it's because Itunes cannot locate the tune on your system.

Hi i bought a digital camera, i installed the driver from the disc that came with it all was ok, but now i want to upload pictures to my pc i'm having problems. The whole PC crashes the second i click ok on the camera screen, funny enough the pc doesn't even acknowledge the usb lead when i plug it in. Once it crashes it gives the blue screen of death then restarts itself but will not restart if the camera is still on. It then comes up a black screen explaining that a possible hardware or software change could have caused this and how to restart in safe mode or start windows normally, then it lets me back in no problem. I've tried all usb ports, no luck, i've repeatedly installed and uninstalled the driver still no luck. I've been googling and it's seems a common problem but i've not found a solution apart from buying a card reader which apparently i can't do as i've no sound card, Please help i really need to be able to transfer my pics onto the PC and would use it everyday so it's an important piece of equipment for me, Fingers crossed, Tash Quote

Last night a thunderstorm was GOING, it wasn't to bad so I decided too keep my computer on. Thunder ended up knocking out our power and shutting down my computer. I tried to turn it back on and it came to this "repair screen" before even GETTING to the password screen. I did the repair and it had me send some sort of message. I try to GET on my computer again and it says "run windows normally" along with safe mode and all the other stuff. I run it normally and the screen just stays BLACK, where the password screen should be. I can only see my white cursor. I am using windows vista home edition 32 bit. Any help would be GREATLY appreciated.

there is NOTHING that converts a CPP to an executable. not even a C++ compiler does that.
a compiler turns the CPP source into an object file, which is then linked with the C runtime as well as any other object files that comprise the program, into the final executable.

there is no way to do this directly through code unless you WRITE a C++ compiler and a Linker.

you could, however, USE the SYSTEM() command to INVOKE the compiler and linker for the file.could you give me an example?

I purchased Webroot Spysweeper(antispyware) and Paretologic RegCure (Registry Cleaner) a few months ago.  Until recently, both PERFORMED automatic scans at the times I set in both programs.  Now, both programs will only work if I do a manual scan.  The WINDOWS Task Schedular is still set to let these programs perform automatic scans, but they don't.  I am also runnning Sunbelt Vipre antivirus and fire wall.  The antivirus still runs its automatic scans. and neither of these programs indicate they are blocking any function of Spysweeper or RegCure.  My operating system is Windows XP Pro.  What can I do to get both of these programs FULLY functional again and perform automatic scans as they did for months until recently.

Make sure that your windows updates are current...completely remove each program and reinstall , then see whether the auto update features return...Regcure is not a recommended product,...registry cleaners tend to be scams or ineffective, but that's another issue altogetherKarnac:

Thanks for the info.  I thought that an uninstall/reinstall would fix this problem, and I have done that on both of them.  Both programs still have the same problem, no automatic scans.  Is it POSSIBLE that after both were working properly for months, that they have just begun to block each other?  Is there anything else I can try?

beachguy Anything is possible, ... maybe delete them from the Windows Task Scheduler and enter one, see if it works, then add another, looks like a conflict somewhere, so you'll have to trial and error the process......is there any programs that have been added SINCE these problems started to act up...if so remove them and see if the problem persists.Thanks Karnac,
I will go back to Windows Task Scheduler and try your suggestion.Using registry cleaners is a very bad idea, and it's possible beginning of your problems.

What l want to do is to have a friend send me a complete list of programs running on their computer. I SEEM to recall that when BROWSING through the Viruses and Spyware forum that someone asked a person to run a program and POST the results which seemed to be a list of everything running on their computer. Maybe wrong, just can't remember that specific post.
Any ideas as to a program that will do this?

I bought my new computer several weeks ago which was Windows Vista Home Premium by default, but I downgraded to XP SP2 and installed the new operating system's contents into my H drive. I havent DELETED the Vista FILES from the C drive where it was installed by default. Is it actually possible when you turn on your computer to EITHER choose if you want to use XP or Vista? Sorry if I posted in the wrong board, I'm newYes there is.

On the XP machine BASICALLY go....
Do the following;
step 1

1. start
2. find run
3. type    msconfig
4. go to the 'boot' tab
5. click on the BUTTON that says 'Windows XP'
6. and press set default

step 2
1. under the same tab of 'boot' find a little box with 30secs in it
2. change this number to 3
3. the little box is called 'timeout'
4. click apply and then ok,
5. restart your machine and watch it work magic my friend
xp is NOT on the c drive...so using easyBCD(or BCD edit or other choices that modify Vista bootmgr) is the way to get this done...IMO

bought a new camera, checked out the cameras website for trouble shooting, UPDATED SOFTWARE to work on VISTA still.. when i CONNECT the camera to PC it says CAN NOT OPEN DEVICE! and autoplay opens to download pictures, i click that anyway and it says no pictures on device... As for the software, hard to say. TRY different USB ports (even the ones in the back of the computer) or try reinstalling the software.

I have been able to attach photos in the past using my hotmail account. At this TIME I select the photo in my file and hit the attach button. The attach button grays out and does not attach. I'm an absolute beginner. I'm looking for suggestions on websites, books or programs that I can use to build an interactive gaming site. The website would allow people to log in and operate their own horse stable. I'd need the website to age the virtual horses daily, to be able to use virtual money, to be able to run "horse shows" at specified times. The website wouldn't have ANIMATION. I have the ideas, I just don't have the knowledge outside of very basic html, which as I understand wouldn't be able to create such a dynamic website.

Do you have your Windows CD... you might have to do a reinstall of the O/S... but thats a long WAY down the track yet. (just handy to know where it is if you need it).

I was using this program called Speedyitunes for a month or so and then I installed windows updates(not sp3 though) then all of my programs failed and stopped working. I had to do a system RESTORE to the day before. But even though I did do that the ONLY program that is crashing now is Speedyitunes. But whats wierd is only on my side of the computer does it crash that program it works on all the others. If you guys got any idea why it is doing this please tell me I have the TXT file the program outputted called appcompat so I am guessing it is having a compatibility issue with something. Anyways if you get a chance please help me with this I will post the log file from procmon to try and help you guys out along witha  memory dump that it outputs if i can actually compress it CONSIDERING it is still in use when I NEED to compress it lol.. open a RUN command and type:  eventvwr

click on "application" on the left and search the list for errors...If you find an error relevant to the crashing app. right click on it, select "properties", and copy/paste the info. on your next post....

edit: you might try right clicking on the executable (application) and see if you can run it in compatibility mode for an earlier version of WindowsOkay I tried setting the program to compatibility mode but that didn't help. I dont know if this will help but heres the crash log thing on it. And another note is my other sides on the cmputer can run the program no problem only this side started having problems.

so, I've downloaded camstudio, as it's free and supposedly the most easy-to-use video capture programme.
But my tests so far haven't been any good: the graphics is all distorted and elements are displaced.
The input rate is ca. 15 fps...

There's an older thread on camstudio here where someone says that its a Vista graphics dirver thing (i have Vista and no proper card, only an onboard graphics chip).

Shall I try hypercam instead (only FOUND a trial version so far, and it's more complicated)?

Any suggestions?Camstudio is great, but the sampling rate on onboard video is horible across the board. System SPECS also affect success with it, such as I USED it on a Pentium 4 2Ghz eMachine with 512MB Ram and onboard video and when recording audio/video its horrible. I also have a 2Ghz Pentium 4 with a GeForce 6200 video card  8x AGP ith 256MB video Ram, and 2GB Ram and its bearable. Then on my AMD Athlon 64 dual-core with GT 8800 and 512MB Video card and 4GB Ram is very smooth with audio and video capturing.

Cam Studio also has the ability to remove sound which will give better performance for lower end systems as well as select the area of the screen to capture VS whole screen to improve the sampling rate not having to sweep the entire screen but a smaller area. You can also adjust the quality of the recording to have less lag freeze framing.

What do you have for a system, CPU, Ram ( is this a laptop or a desktop/tower )

I have encountered a problem in my laptop. I RECENTLY did a copy-paste OPERATION from email documents when I highlighted the text and tried to copy it to word documents, it didn't run there or FAILURE to paste the documents.
There is no problem when typing text documents in word and TRANSFER it to another file it will copy and EXECUTE well... What procedure will it take to copy text from email to word?

Thanks.CTRL-C to copy...then open an empty document and use CTRL-V to paste...
