Solve : acronis true image home 2009? |
Answer» Quite a lot of things i have been reading lately, tells people that the only way to know for sure if this works or not, is to put another hard disk in and try it. No, but the idea is to have a backup in case something goes way bad. True Image is good. But IF you have trouble wit hit, you need another method to get back to where you started. A simple method is to burn all of My Documents onto a DVD or two. Now you have a copy of you personal stuff in case you have to do a full format and install of Windows and Programs over again. Which is not likely, but you are prepared. . Acronis true image is one of, if not the best backup/imaging software available. Quote tells people that the only way to know for sure if this works or not, is to put another hard disk in and try it. I think they are talking about some other popular but not supported (on these forums) ways of testing software. Don't worry about Acronis. Quote from: Geek-9pm on April 24, 2009, 06:02:50 PM No, but the idea is to have a backup in case something goes way bad. True Image is good. But IF you have trouble wit hit, you need another method to get back to where you started. Right i think i am with you on this, when i do get acronis, and do a full system disk image , it is also advisable to make a copy of your personal stuff like you said on a different storage device. That way if for some reason in the unlikely event of a system failure, and for some unknown reason the acronis boot cd wont work, at least you will still have your personal stuff backed up. But i think if you have done everything right, i carn't see there will be any problems Quote from: evilfantasy on April 24, 2009, 06:05:08 PM . thanks, some reasuring news, thats nice to here I am a BIT of a worrier, and was panicing a bit, saying how do i put a spare hard drive in, though it might not be to difficult, i have know knowledge of that I CREATE an image once a week and save it to another partition...you can't save an image to the same partition. Then once a month i burn the latest image and delete the other 3... This way worst case i'm 3 weeks away from my last backup. All drives fail which is why i suggest burning them to DVD's.hello, here's a useful tutorial on how to USE Acronis True Image Home. http://computerticket.blogspot.com/2009/08/how-to-use-acronis-true-image-home-12.html Good Luck!!! Nice Bump... Quote from: loopback on August 02, 2009, 02:50:06 PM hello, here's a useful tutorial on how to use Acronis True Image Home. Thanks loopback for the link I have currently aquired acronis true image home 2009, actually last week after using the trial version and found it pritty easy to use and understand, there was a few things that i was unsure of at first, but the support forum in good, but mostly if i am unsure on anything i will just use there ONLINE chat to get an answer. Like last week when i bought it, i had backed up partitions C: and E: on an external hard drive and "Protection state" said i was protected, but when i unplugged the hard drive and then plugged it back in later "Protection state" is saying that i am not protected. This really confused me at first, but acronis told me that it was because i was using the external hard drive and that it can basically "forget" to remember was it has done, but nothing to worry about, but i still got a seconed opinion from the support forum.... Solve : Which Antivirus Program uses the least amount of my PC's resources?? |
Answer» Which Antivirus Program uses the least AMOUNT of my PC's resources? That's a good question! If you get a good answer, let me KNOW also. QUOTE from: zcook on July 28, 2009, 02:18:58 PM Which Antivirus Program uses the least amount of my PC's resources? You need to ask yourself the question how much protection do you want? resources:protectionhttp://www.av-comparatives.org/ Quote from: zcook on July 28, 2009, 02:18:58 PM Which Antivirus Program uses the least amount of my PC's resources?Avast has low resource requirement, latest version still compatible with Windows 98SE. I was using it on a P3 with 640MB RAM. Quote from: Mulreay on July 28, 2009, 02:43:08 PM You need to ask yourself the question how much protection do you want? err, no. Following that logic we could logically assume that the best AV would simply allocate all memory and then sit in a infinite loop. Quote from: Computer_Commando on July 28, 2009, 12:09:14 PM Avast has low resource requirement, latest version still compatible with Windows 98SE. I was using it on a P3 with 640MB RAM.I also run Avast on a Celeron machine with 256 MB RAM running Windows 98 se. It was about the only AV software I could find that is compatible with 98SE. Quote from: Computer_Commando on July 28, 2009, 12:09:14 PM Avast has low resource requirement, latest version still compatible with Windows 98SE. I was using it on a P3 with 640MB RAM. Does AVG use a lot? I would try out various Antivirus programs and see which runs most smoothly on your computer. I prefer Avast for my own system, I can disable modules that I'm not running, then enable them later if I need them.Yesterday only, I have installed & is using 'COMODO Internet Security'. I preferred to install ANTIVIRUS ONLY & kept all 'Bells & Whistles' away(like Hopsurf Toolbar..etc.) Comodo Antivirus is proving too light on Resources(perhaps even better than to my previous choice of Avira Antivir!) However, it would be unfair to bluntly equate its capability(Malware Removal) to Avira. AVIRA ANTIVIR is the BOSS!Kaspersky is probably the best on system resources. It only uses about 3 executables I think...do you actually "feel" how much resources an antivirus program actually uses on your computer if you don't have an old computer and your computer is not just struggling to work (in which case an upgrade may be worthwhile)?yes.AVG is a heavy user of computer resources and you have to use a version later than 7.5 as it and earlier are no longer supported with updates and virus definitions. The more recent the version the more blotted it has become. I am using the free "Avira" on a number of computers and find no issues with it. However i cannot comment on it's use of resources. truenorth |

Solve : How to uninstall trend micro internet security pro in windows 7 RC?? |
Answer» I started installing this before I realized it won't run with Windows 7. I got several error/incompatible dialog boxes during install. I didn't want to cancel in the middle of the install for FEAR of having problems with th uninstall. Well, the install froze after most of it was installed. So I tried uninstalling it per directions on Trend Micro's website here: Boot to safemode... 1- The Trend Uninstall was what was missing from the 'Start > All Programs' list. 2- Trend didn't even show up in 'Add/Remove Programs (safe mode or normal) 3- The TISSuprt.exe that Trend Micro's site say's to use wasn't there, and it's still not there with Trend running fine. What I did FIND was a file named "TISTOOL" (Trend Micro Diagnostic Toolkit) (right below where their TISSuprt.exe was supposed to be. That program has a "uninstall" tab which consist of an option to force uninstall in case of install problems. Exactly what I needed. http://i243.photobucket.com/albums/ff1/letrocrew/Trendtoolkituninstalltab-1.jpg EDIT = corrected linkNice detective work there... Is that file located in all your Trend installs ? ?I have my EMachines disassembled right now so I'll have to check TM Internet security later. And my "Trend Micro PcCillin Internet Security for Dell" has expired so I don't know about it either. But I do see what the difference is with TM Pro. The Trend Micro website example (in my first link) gives the file name, "TISSuprt.exe.". My TM IS Pro 2009 has it named "TISTOOL". Both file icons are a red & white lifesaver float so I suspect they contain the same, or similar diagnostic tools. I too would like to see if "Trend Micro Internet Security (NON Pro) has this force uninstall option. BTW my screen shot I posted a link to in my previous post did not show the "uninstall" tab open. I'll fix that now so you can see that exact phrase it gives concerning "Forced Uninstall". |

Answer» Hello Folks! "Windows Update Source Files", These I'm not to sure about. I think there added when you run the update for security and verification. Patio will probably know lets hang on for him for a bit. they're the installer files. the MSI installers used to INSTALL the patches.Dear BC! So is it OK to classify the same as JUNK(Wise Guys have decided to play SAFE & rely on the discretion of users)! Aren't these products sometimes mean to 'Mess up' things, specially in context to a NOVICE users?well, I personally would delete them; since your patches are already INSTALLED. Solve : Zip code appearing as a date when I do a mail merge? |
Answer» I am using Microsoft Office 2007. I am ATTEMPTING to do a mail merge from Excel to Word. Everything is fine except the zip code. It is appearing as a date. I have formatted it as text in Excel, but it didn't help. I've TRIED searching for an answer, but the only problem I've come ACROSS is zeros disappearing. The advice given in that case was to format the zip column as text in Excel, so I tried that. Not sure whether this will help but try formatting that column in Excel as Zip code. If you right click on the column header and select Format Cells..., choose Special when the Format Cells dialog box appears. Zip Code is listed as a type of format under Special. Thanks for replying. Unfortunately, this is how the column was originally formatted. So, that doesn't fix the problem. It still shows up as a date. |

Solve : What's the popular program language?? |
Answer» What's the popular program language? It's not. I usually Use VB6. Wouldn't that also depend on what was being programmed and for what platform? I'm obviously not a programmer, but I understand there is more to it than that.C is used the most in professional environments and Visual Basic is used more by smaller companies, students and hobbyists. Personally I use VB the most Cameron Grayyes Quantos, that's a point I forgot to cover. Quote from: BC_Programmer on July 26, 2009, 08:51:35 AM yes Quantos, that's a point I forgot to cover. Did you at least cover your Hiney? In either case: Quote But really what's popular shouldn't dictate what one uses. What works should be a bigger issue on that count. Holds true. If you are recruited to a team, then the language and methods in use will likely be decided for you. However, if you are writing & maintaining (for profit) alone, -- increasingly rare these days -- different considerations may well jostle for priority such as what you are already used to, the platform you are using and writing for, ease of maintainance, final code size, etc. If you are thinking of studying computer science or learning programming and wonder what would make a good first language, then again, opinions differ. I think good ol' plain C has a lot going for it. I've heard that it is a damned good starting point. At the least. |

Solve : how to make a simple web browser in c++? |
Answer» Hi, I have a vb book which tells you how to make one based of ie It takes like five seconds.... add it to the COMPONENTS dialog and plop one on the FORM.... then write one line of code to .navigate2() to the starting address. However he asked how to write a Webbrowser, not glue one together. The main problem here is that he has just started using C++ and hasn't a clue how to create windows programs or how to do networking, or graphics, or in fact a number of necessary skills for creating a web browser. Even the control method would require the ability to work with COM components and create windowed applications. Quote from: batchmaster60 on July 28, 2009, 01:33:34 PM Hi, Do your own homework. |

Solve : iTunes won't play my mp3 - File Headers?? |
Answer» I believe it is because of the FILE headers. iTunes will play some of my MP3S, but others it SIMPLY does NOTHING after pushing the play button. Is there a good program to fix the file headers on my mp3s? Does a little exclamation mark come up at the side of the TRACK you are trying to play? If so it's because Itunes cannot locate the tune on your system. |

Solve : PC Crashing? |
Answer» Hi i bought a digital camera, i installed the driver from the disc that came with it all was ok, but now i want to upload pictures to my pc i'm having problems. The whole PC crashes the second i click ok on the camera screen, funny enough the pc doesn't even acknowledge the usb lead when i plug it in. Once it crashes it gives the blue screen of death then restarts itself but will not restart if the camera is still on. It then comes up a black screen explaining that a possible hardware or software change could have caused this and how to restart in safe mode or start windows normally, then it lets me back in no problem. I've tried all usb ports, no luck, i've repeatedly installed and uninstalled the driver still no luck. I've been googling and it's seems a common problem but i've not found a solution apart from buying a card reader which apparently i can't do as i've no sound card, Please help i really need to be able to transfer my pics onto the PC and would use it everyday so it's an important piece of equipment for me, Fingers crossed, Tash Quote i bought a digital cameraBring it back to the store for a refund, and tell them to stop selling junk.I never install the camera software. It always feels like it was shoddily thrown together in a sweatshop my 8 year olds with PowerBuilder. Quote but i've not found a solution apart from buying a card reader which apparently i can't do as i've no sound card, Heavens no, untrue. I have a USB Hub/card reader that I use to read the SD card from my camera, and it works well. Haven't even touched the Camera software. Quote from: scary-faery on July 16, 2009, 03:15:49 PM i've not found a solution apart from buying a card reader which apparently i can't do as i've no sound card Having or not having a sound card should have nothing to do with whether or not you can use a card reader. Sounds like you may have been FED a bit of misinformation. As long as you've got a USB port, you can get a card reader and transfer your pictures that way, whether or not you have sound.Yeah, I suspect a card reader may solve your problem, as quaxo suggested. It seems that connecting your camera directly computer is, for some reason, making your computer very un-cooperative. It shoud work that way, but the evidence seems to indicate some conflict. So, getting a card reader, which can be a small external device that you simply put your camera memory card in and then connect to a USB port, should solve the problem. This also ALLEVIATES any potential problem which could occur if you connected your camera directly to your computer, running your camera on battery, and the battery went dead before you completed your transfer. We're assuming you have no general USB problem, that other USB devices work fine on your computer. Hiya thanks to all of you that replied. Sadly i can't take it back as it was 2nd hand although the person who owned it had no problems with it himself and used a card reader. It's also only 2 months old and a brilliant camera. I'm definatly going to buy a card reader thank you so much! I must have been fed wrong info as i was told using a compact flash card reader could only be used if you had a sound card, thats why i asked you guys FIRST, and no i've no problems using my USB ports for everything else, i had my last camera intalled up untill last week with no problems. One last question, do any of you have opinions on Driver detective? Thank you, Tash (eternally grateful) Quote do any of you have opinions on Driver detective?Stay away. If you need some driver, Google it, or ask here. Normally, drivers should be left alone, unless there is something wrong with some. Quote from: scary-faery on July 17, 2009, 09:08:24 AM I must have been fed wrong info as i was told using a compact flash card reader could only be used if you had a sound card A sound card isn't necessary for most normal computer operations. The only issues you might have: 1. Some games/audio programs won't start if they don't detect a sound card. 2. You won't be able to hear/record any sound. This should have no impact on most USB devices, especially a card reader. Also, I agree with BRONI. I don't like driver detection programs. If you need help with a driver, you know where to ask. Hi, thank you for that reply i'm definatly going to stay away from Driver detective. I do have another problem now though i got my card reader. It was brand new and it's a Belkin and accepts a few different cards. I've INSERTED my memory card and it says it's not formatted do i want to format now, i click yes which is the only option as i can''t get any further. It tries to format them stops and says it can't be formatted? I've even tried my new one and the same happened. Now when i put either in my camera i can't seem to copy pics to them. They're not locked i've tried both ways multiple times. I used the installation disc that came with the reader. Can anyone help? I'm getting very discouraged with it all now. Thanks Scary-faery |

Solve : automatic scans have stopped working in 2 programs? |

Now, both programs will only work if I do a manual scan. The WINDOWS Task Schedular is still set to let these programs perform automatic scans, but they don't. Solve : cannot attach using hotmail? |
Answer» I have been able to attach photos in the past using my hotmail account. At this TIME I select the photo in my file and hit the attach button. The attach button grays out and does not attach. What has happened? This has worked perfectly in the past. Thanks! I cant really say but if the file is too big it MAY not let you.I don't think that is it, I cannot even send one PIC. In the past I have sent multiple and it has worked. I am thinking more on the lines that I have accidentally disabled this ability without knowing it and I do not know how to enable it again. I'll attempt to poke around, unless anyone else has an idea. What internet browser are you using? e.g. Firefox, Chrome? |

Solve : I want to build a PHP website???? |
Answer» I'm an absolute beginner. I'm looking for suggestions on websites, books or programs that I can use to build an interactive gaming site. The website would allow people to log in and operate their own horse stable. I'd need the website to age the virtual horses daily, to be able to use virtual money, to be able to run "horse shows" at specified times. The website wouldn't have ANIMATION. I have the ideas, I just don't have the knowledge outside of very basic html, which as I understand wouldn't be able to create such a dynamic website. PHP was, I believe, designed solely for server-side programming. Even if it was, that's not all it's used for. It's good at text transformation (almost as good as Perl) and you can even design standalone graphical applications with it. Quote from: Rob Pomeroy on June 21, 2009, 05:37:13 AM Even if it was, that's not all it's used for. I know Heck even java started off as a way to program COFFEE makers... Solve : Very strange crashing issue?? |
Answer» I was using this program called Speedyitunes for a month or so and then I installed windows updates(not sp3 though) then all of my programs failed and stopped working. I had to do a system RESTORE to the day before. But even though I did do that the ONLY program that is crashing now is Speedyitunes. But whats wierd is only on my side of the computer does it crash that program it works on all the others. If you guys got any idea why it is doing this please tell me I have the TXT file the program outputted called appcompat so I am guessing it is having a compatibility issue with something. Anyways if you get a chance please help me with this I will post the log file from procmon to try and help you guys out along witha memory dump that it outputs if i can actually compress it CONSIDERING it is still in use when I NEED to compress it lol.. Tnx in advance all. then different cleanups tools What tool(s) did you use? When I uninstalled the program using add and remove programs I used CCleaner hoping maybe it was a glitch from the old install and by uninstalling it and then scanning for registry values that were invalid using the program it would fix the problem when I reinstalled it. Which it didnt. Um Also the reason why its currently installed now is because I reinstalled it because of the whole uninstall it then reinstall it to fix the problem reutien. Anyways any more ideas would be helpfull its pretty strange really that only my side of the pc has this problem lol.Uninstall it again, using Revo: http://www.revouninstaller.com/Broni thank you so much for the uninstaller the program uninstalled it and I reinstalled the program. When I opened it it said unknown arguement reached then it let the program open. Now it works again. Thanks you so much!!!!!!!!You're very welcome |

Solve : upgrade xp to vista? |
Answer» how can i upgrade my windows xp to windows vista.....im a beginer so pls give me details tnxBuy Vista Upgrade edition for WHICHEVER version you need of Vista. Insert CD in drive, and with XP already booted the autorun of the CD should prompt you through the installation. Follow the directions and you should be all set. * Be sure to run the system check to verify that your system meets the hardware requirements beforeinstallation. This check will be on one of the first few option screens of the installation process. I recommend minimum 768mb RAM although it can run on 512mb and at least 20GB HD Free. Also back up any important files ( burn to CD or copy to ext HD ) prior to in case you accidentally select clean install which wipes all data from drive. Please, post some computer info: - processor TYPE, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo KEY, hit Pause/Break key) - hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties") Here's some minimum recommended PC Specs for running vista --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspx If you're a little underpowered, maybe your pc might not run so well.... Quote Here's some minimum recommended PC Specs for running vista --> http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspxDisregard Micro$oft misleading information. Quote from: Broni on June 23, 2009, 05:29:44 PM Disregard Micro$oft misleading information. Can I ask just for future info to myself and original poster why this is the case? My Laptop far exceeds the 'min' requirements but Kylland79 may not.Every Micro$oft web page listing Windows of any sort requirements (be it Vista, XP, or any other flavor) is misleading. For instance, Vista: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/windows-vista/get/system-requirements.aspx For Vista to run well, you need dual core processor, and 2GB of RAM, to start with. Video card with with 128MB of RAM will work lousy as well. Not to mention hard drive space, they mention. It may be OK, just to install Vista, and nothing else.Got YA. however, if your PC does not even meet the minimum recommended requirements as per microsoft's website (regardless of how misleading it may be), your computer is probably not going to be happy running Vista. Mine loves it... kinda. I don't think it's the comp more the user |
