Solve : How to "uninstall" files extracted from an archive?? |
Answer» You are right: In the batch file I didn't type the brackets, quotes, grave accents (what you call "single apostrophes"?), nor I typed "type ". C:\My Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion>FOR /F "usebackq delims=" %i IN (`type " It is in portuguese. I'll translate: "O sistema não conseguiu localizar o ficheiro especificado." means "The system couldn't locate the specified file". "Não foi possível localizar..." means "It wasn't possible to locate...". Like I said, even if the PC couldn't delete the files containing spaces in their path or filename, some of the above errors still don't make sense to me. For instance: Quote Não foi possível localizar C:\My Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\Bash.htmlThose files don't exist in the Oblivion folder, nor they are listed in Wrye_Bash_190.txt, so they shouldn't be traced for deletion! It seems they were "invented"? Quote Não foi possível localizar C:\My Games\Bethesda Softworks\Oblivion\PatchIn the Oblivion folder there isn't any file or folder starting with the word Patch. Also none of the file paths listed in Wrye_Bash_190.txt start with "Patch", they all start instead with "Data\" or "Mopy\"! I don't understand this! oh I forgot something else. try it again, but instead of @echo %%i or @del %%i, put %%i in quotes, as in @del "%%i"That's it! Finally it worked. Thanks again. One more thing. About this other batch file you posted on reply #4 to create a list of the files in the ZIP: Code: [Select]@echo off dir /b > listing.txt It would not have worked. I tried to run it in a new folder where I extracted the zip archive just to see if it created a list of the files within the archive without listing the folders too, so that I wouldn't have to delete the folders manually from the list. It generated this list: Quote Datayeah- at the time I created that I was unaware that there were subfolders. please disregard that batch file. for the curious I would guess the proper one would be: Code: [Select]@echo off dir /a-d /s /b > listing.txt Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 12, 2009, 08:00:45 PM Can't you delete files modified on a certain date with a for LOOP, if so, you can find out one file that you know is DEFINATLY a Wyre Bash file, and get the date created...and what about updates to the original oblivion game? or unrelated files. Or of course the fact that ZIP files preserve the original value of Date created. I just unzipped a old zip file, and the created dates on the files were still 2000.Quote from: BC_Programmer on April 13, 2009, 06:54:24 PM for the curious I would guess the proper one would be: No, this one won't do what's expected either. I extracted the zip archive Wrye Bash 190.zip to this temporary directory: D:\Os meus jogos\The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion\Wrye Bash\Wrye Bash 190\ Then, placed there the batch file you suggested (I saved it as Wrye_Bash_190.bat) and ran it. It produces a list of the files contained in the archive, but the problem is that the pathes of the files that are listed include the path of the temporary folder where the archive was extracted, which is not intended. For instance, it lists: Quote D:\Os meus jogos\The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion\Wrye Bash\Wrye Bash 190\Data\Bash Patches\Bash_Groups.csv Where it should be listing: Code: [Select]Data\Bash Patches\Bash_Groups.csv Data\Bash Patches\Bash_MFact.csv [...] Of course, it also lists: Quote D:\Os meus jogos\The Elder Scrolls IV - Oblivion\Wrye Bash\Wrye Bash 190\Wrye_Bash_190.batThose two are not a problem, though. They could easily be manually deleted, or rather they could be left in the list. That way, as LONG as the second batch file (the one that will uninstall the WB files in the Oblivion directory) is named with exactly the same name as this one, then Wrye_Bash_190.bat and listing.txt will both be automatically removed along with the WB files from the Oblivion directory, which is fine. |

Solve : Windows Error when accessing the File menu in Microsoft Office Document Imaging? |
Answer» I was scanning one chapter of a book in Microsoft Office Document Imaging (program installed with Microsoft Office 2003) using my HP Deskjet F2180 (TWAIN). After I scanned all the pages of the book's chapter, I went to menu File>Save to save the document as a TIFF file. However, at that occasion, I inadvertently moved the slider to increase quality/compression under the save options for .MDI file format just before I hit the Save button. As I intended, the file was saved as a .tif file, which is the default file format option in the save window. But perhaps I should not have changed the settings for quality/compression of MDI format, because since then, every time that I click the menu File button, the program crashes and the the same WINDOWS error appears, saying something like: «Microsoft Document Imaging found a problem and has to be shut down. We regret any inconvenience this MIGHT cause you. [...]» You can change option which format do you want in menu file. When I use this program, I always save files as .tif files. It is more compatible with other programs. AFAIK, the .mdi files can only be read by one of 2 programs. Anyway I never saved a file as .mdi, even when I changed the settings for quality/compression of MDI format in the save window, the selected format for saving was still .tif and the new file was saved as .tif having EXACTLY the same file size as the file saved with the default save settings. When I will save files again, I'll check if it is possible to change the quality/compression rate of the TIFF format as well, which is what I intended to do in the first place. |

Solve : Flash Disinfector by sUBs question? |
Answer» Hello. First post here. Nice forum. Thank you for the opportunity to participate. Three questions, if I may. I am running WXP up to date, HP machine with D: drive as recovery partition. Have an attached 500 gig USB hard drive. Will FLASH disinfector by sUBs create the autorun.inf file in the supposedly protected D: drive? Will it create the autorun.inf file on the USB drive, assuming it is hooked up? The reason for this SECOND question is that there is an autorun.inf file already there, it came with the drive, and I think it is necessary for the drive to work properly. Wouldn't want it REPLACED. Would ANYONE feel COMFORTABLE comparing Flash Disinfector to Autorun Vaccine by Panda? Thanks again. Look forward to reading the replies. |

Solve : Help burning mp3 files to CD? |
Answer» Quote from: David40 on April 17, 2009, 05:27:02 PM I want to make a bunch of copies to pass out "Hold the PHONES" and "Stop the presses" Lets examine the above statement. Did you write this book? Do you own the "Copyright" to it? If you answered no to both questions then I think every ONE needs to just step away. As per forum rules we are not allowed to help with the copying of "Copyrighted" materialWhat's the matter, so much time on your hands that you find it necessary to PLAY the Nazi gestapo? I won't even qualify that with an answer, it's insulting. How about I COME over to your house and put you under a bright light and see if I get a confession out of you about any laws you might be breaking. As a matter of fact why don't I just torture you and get you to confess to something you didn't even do. That's about the norm these days isn't it? Guilty till proven innocent. Touchy are we?? I just asked simple questions and pointed out that because of forum rules we can't help with copyrighted material. If you can't handle that then sorry. It's against policy here to give assistance with duplicating copyrighted material. The fact that you intend to "make a bunch of copies to pass out" means we can't help you. Sorry. -=EDIT=- Dang, mroilfield beat me to the punch. Yes I do get a bit touchy with little minds that troll the Net stirring up trouble and butting into things that don't concern them. God, I'd rather be dead than to be that bored with nothing better to do. Topic Closed. Please review the Forum Rules. patio. |

What's your point? See the other posts eg by Hey101. I often use right click to create a new txt or rtf or xls document. I immediately give it a name of my choice and thereupon I can double click it, work on it, and all it takes is ALT+F, S to save it. I like to work that way. Are you being sarcastic and/or hostile? If so, why? No, I was just trying to be cute. Actually, if hey 101 or Shadow Vegan has stated the case as well as you worded it, I think this discussion would have been finished MUCH sooner. So (to me) the OP's question is a reasonable one.By the way, I'm surpised that this technique even works for Excel. I presume the right click procedure does not create an actual Excel file, or does it? In other words, is it just a ... trick ... file that makes Windows respond to a double click by opening Excel or is it truly a blank Excel file? Is the file size of an xls file created this way the same as a new Excel file created via an open Excel window? And, if this works for Excel, then it could be applied to Word, etc.?the "new" submenu is populated by the items within the shellnew keys of various extensions. xls, for example, in my machine references "excel9.xls" which exists in C:\windows\shellnew on my machine. possible entries in the shellnew key include Filename (as above) Data (which creates a new file with that data in in it; for example, my RTF example) or "nullfile" which means to create an empty file; this one is used for files that have no necessary structure, such as text DOCUMENTS. The files are created immediately, and of course the files have associations for the APPROPRIATE programs. As far as new documents, basically, the Office programs have a file in the shellnew folder and appropriate registry entries for the menu. the file is simply blank, and will get it's settings from normal.dot or the default worksheet (I forget the filename), just like File...New, but you wouldn't need to open the PROGRAM just to create the file, for example if one was creating a certain set of files before editing them.well thanks everyone that contributed to this. sorry soybean for the confusion i was jsut saying its better to answer sometimes then get in a never ending discussion about something. Its not like its going to be used for illegal things so its better to answer on how to do it it this situation. Also thanks Dias de verano for clarifying it.Quote from: soybean on May 17, 2009, 02:48:58 PM By the way, I'm surpised that this technique even works for Excel. Quote I presume the right click procedure does not create an actual Excel file, or does it? In other words, is it just a ... trick ... file that makes Windows respond to a double click by opening Excel or is it truly a blank Excel file? It looks just like one. Solve : Urgent Help Needed? |
Answer» Quote from: Computer Beginner on April 19, 2009, 05:24:15 AM Yes it is definitely the same folder. Let's start at the beginning. How were you doing this before? Quote from: You When I create a new cpp source file, and try to compile it on the visual studio command prompt, using 'cl /EHsc filename.cpp', How did you get to the "visual studio command prompt"? I open up the visual C++ express edition 2008 File>open>file.cpp tools>visual studio command promptMaybe some tips here http://www.devsource.com/c/a/Using-VS/Working-at-the-Visual-Studio-Command-Line/ It says this: Quote You might think that accessing the command line is a simple matter of clicking the Start\Programs\Accessories\Command Prompt shortcut. That shortcut opens a command prompt, but it's not the right one. This command prompt LACKS the required environment variables, especially the path information to Visual Studio. so that must mean that the batch file created on my desktop won't WORK. I can get to the visual studio command prompt and make it work by typing cd /directory and then compiling, it is just a matter of setting it so it always has the right directory =s. There ya go. I didn't know that either... I still don't know how to set the command prompt to the correct directory. =S Thanks for your help though! So are you always going to keep your cpp files in the same directory? Surely you are going to create a different directory for each new project? Well I guess I probably will. In that case...it's FINE! It isn't much of a problem typing one line anyway. Thanks for all your help! |

Quote from: cristopher on May 13, 2009, 11:37:00 PM All of my word programs are disabled ...You MEAN Word files, not "word programs", don't you? Word is one program, or part of a larger program (MS Office). Can you open Word? Do other Office components (Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) work? You may have a serious software license issue here. You may not have a valid software license for MS Office. How do you know someone else isn't using the same edition of Office that's INSTALLED on your computer? Any time you buy a used computer and do not get the original CD for software that's installed on it, you should be suspicious of the legitimacy of the license for that software. Solve : Numbering Issues in MS Word 2003? |
Answer» I'm having serious numbering ISSUES with MS Word (yeah, big surprise, huh?). I have my styles properly set up and I have a complex document I'm working on that has several numbered lists. I have two issues that regularly occur. 1.) I create a third (or fourth or fifth) list and when I try to restart numbering using the Format>Bullets and Numbering menu selection it changes the numbering for the list I am working on, but it makes the list immediately above (list 2 for example) renumber continuing the numbering from list 1. So let's say list 1 is 1,2,3 and list 2 is the same, when I do restart numbering on list 3 so it will also be 1,2,3 - then when I do that, list 2 suddenly renumbers 4,5,6. If it's a short document this doesn't seem to be a problem, but I work on longish documents 20+ pages usually and it gets to be an issue the longer the document gets. 2.) If the first problem doesn't GET me, then I have a different issue. Sometimes when I try to renumber the list, the Restart Numbering button is grayed out and I can't renumber at all. I've read all of the literature about how this setting overrides that setting and all of that mumbo-jumbo, but I don't understand how all that works and there has to be a simpler solution. I've been working around it by just CREATING new styles everytime I need a new numbered list, but that's just not good practice and I shouldn't have to do that.Have you tried reinstalling Word? |

Solve : I can't import .avi files to Windows Movie Maker? |
Answer» I used to work fine with it, Depends on what those particular files were encoded with. If it was DivX or Xvid, you'll have to download the appropriate codec from their respective websites. Or you could TRY the K-Lite Mega codec pack - This will allow yu to play alot more types of video |

Solve : Mail Merge is Deleting my Form? |
Answer» I made a form in Microsoft WORD 2003 that is fill-able and need to email the form out to 183 DIFFERENT organization with personal data from each organization in their form. For this reason, I created the form, then did a Mail Merge that had the data I NEEDED. When the merge was complete, all of my Text Form Fields had been deleted. The blanks are still there but the Text Form Fields are not. I would like to be able to lock the document so that they will not be able to type in the question areas but if I lock it without the text form fields, they can't type anything at all. |

The Fax Software was deleted and i was WONDERING were I could get a download or if ANYONE else had the same software and could GIVE the name and developer. You could probably find the software if you go to the Vaio website, look up your laptop model, and looking through the Downloads/Software section. Solve : help with "Tor"? |
Answer» hello im trying to use Tor to put my self behind a automatic proxy (or hidden ip address) for my protection. now i can't seem to see that it changes my ip address in any browser never mind all browsers. Has this got anything to do with your other topic? No, that's for his friend. OK well THANKS...anyone use Tor for non piracy related purposes like myself...any tips for it?.....oh and no other programs come to mind? ps. I myself usually love to assume because it is so easy....but it is more likely to be false then true....so i dont instead i usually stick to the direct question....although i don't mean to imply anything to all you "genius" people. I was teasing you, but BC gave you a pretty comprehensive answer in his post above. I've heard of people being completely invisible (so they claimed) but I could never get them to tell me how they did it.i like ghost surf, it redirects your traffic so you get a different IP, it blocks cookies, user agent, referrer, and AD`s. it`s not free but worth it to PROTECT privacy. |
