 Hi,

It sounds like Bing application(s) may have actually been installed on your computer, based on what you said (right clicking brings up a context menu regarding Bing). Try opening Control Panel on your computer by clicking the Start menu/orb in the lower left of your screen, now select Control Panel. Once opened, look for a link or icon that says (depending on your Operating System) "Add/Remove Programs" or "Programs/Uninstall a Program". When the window loads, you should see a running list of all installed applications on your computer. Look for anything that says "Bing" and click it once (left click, not right) to highlight it. A button will appear within the highlighted row to uninstall/change the program. Click the button and a NEW window will appear to guide you through the removal process. After removing a program, it may ask you to restart- choose "restart later" instead. Continue finding and removing "Bing" applications from your computer until all are uninstalled. Now restart your computer, and see what things look like. Keep in mind we may need to also clean out your internet browser, so do not dispair if you still see signs/symptoms of Bing. Just report back the condition, and we'll continue from there Ok I never installed bing and its not on add / delete in the control panel and for starters MWB and superantispyware and combo-fix and Adw and FRST ; which are are snap to use can't find and delete
" Search with Bing "  from the right click menu ! !

Use win 7 HP 4 gigs of ram and its 64 bit . . .

So what now ? ? ?   :  (It is a big problem.
Here is reference:

Quote

When using Microsoft products such as Internet Explorer and Windows computers, Bing is usually made the default search engine since it is developed and owned by Microsoft. On a Windows computer, sometimes Windows Updates will automatically install a toolbar add-on known as the Bing Bar into Internet Explorer. Bing can be removed from your computer by uninstalling or disabling the Bing Bar add-on, and by changing your default search engine settings in every browser.
Also, some versions of Windows are sold with the stipulation that Bing has to be the default. The OEM gets a lover cost on the system software. Ok so again how do I remove bing amazing still have gotten no answers !  !  ! Quote from: Verylost on February 15, 2015, 01:49:55 AM

You have gotten replies...no need to be rude.

You may wanna start by mentioning which browser you are using..." You have gotten replies...no need to be rude. "

I wasn t ; only gotten replies that think bing is an active browser and like I said its not so guess the only way to get over the issue on this end is to post two screen shots that should get you over that hump once you see then you'll get it.     Tried posted screen shots 2 x but they are two big and wrong FORMAT so need
directions on how to compress the shots to a smaller size ( ? ) then convert ( ? ) to an accepted format then post to here .

" You may wanna start by mentioning which browser you are using... "

window 7  HP  4 gigs of ram 64 bit and i.e. 11 . 0  .  .  .

And should add the pc wasn t sold with bing ; bing just popped up out of no where hum 2 weeks ago ; came across two other mal ware scanners will try them later today; they might find bing and delete :  (

Ops tried windows tweak and that found nothing so my HUNT goes on .  .See Here...And Here...Ok looked at bought links and can not remove bing; theirs no avg from add on and can not add yahoo to that list as my default search provider.

But thinking maybe seeing how MS is shoving BING down users throats would think if I removed the last 20/30 updates that should finally remove bing ; since the more updates I accept the worse the computer is gummed up and runs slower .   I just removed it from IE11 last nite using the 2nd method...Your links don t work Bing is not my search engine ; hum think I have already said that want to keep i.e.
11.0 and keep yahoo as the search guessing the only way you'll get it finally is for me to post screen shots but havn t gotten any directions yet;  you still aren t listening / getting my problem : ( VeryLost,

I apologize for this being as frustrating as it is. It's never easy when technology breaks down or acts in a manner that one doesn't expect. It's just as difficult for folks like myself to try diagnosing and walking someone through the repair process. I promise you that no one is trying to make this more difficult for you; we honestly are trying to help. You can expect that I will help you through this to my best ability, but I do ask that you try to remain calm as we go through the steps, keeping a solid focus is important when troubleshooting, and we (technicians on this forum) are depending on you to be the TECHNICIAN, as we can only walk you through steps to take to solve this problem.

With that said, let's get the forum screenshots working that you tried uploading. I noticed that the picture you tried uploading is of the "ODT" type (the file you uploaded ends with .odt). The forums here do not allow that file type to be uploaded (for security reasons). Instead, let's try to create a screen shot using a different file extension. You said you're using Windows 7, if this is correct, try following these steps to create a "forum-safe" screen shot:
1: click the Start Menu/Orb in the lower left corner of your screen (should be a blue orb with a Windows logo inside). A new menu should appear
2: click on or hover your mouse cursor over "All Programs" (located at the bottom of the new menu that appeared)
3: Find "Accessories" within the menu list- it should have an icon that looks like a folder. (Note: you may have to scroll down within the "Start menu" to find "Accessories")- click "Accessories"
4: find and click "Snipping Tool" to open the Snipping Tool (Should have scissors as its icon)
5: your screen will now have a white overlay on it and your mouse cursor should change to cross-hairs instead of a pointer. Use the crosshairs (by pressing and holding the mouse button [left-click]) to select what you'd like to take a screen shot of (kind of like cropping a picture if you've ever used photo-editing software like what you'd find on a phone).
6: once you've selected the snippet, let go of your mouse button [left-click] to save the snippet. You should see a preview of the snippet you created at this point- select the icon that looks like a floppy diskette - this is the Save button. When saving, choose a fileName and keep the ".PNG" in the name. It should default to the fileName "capture.PNG" - it's safe to keep this name and just save it as is.
7: now attempt to upload the screen shot you just captured using the Snippet tool.

An alternative (if you're only able to replicate the Bing problem by opening a right-click context-menu, you should have a "Print Screen" button on your keyboard, it may say "Print Screen" or be abrieviated to "Prt Sc" or similar. Replicate the Bing problem (this being the problem you're having with Bing), hit the Print Screen button on your keyboard, then open Microsoft Paint by clicking the Start Menu/Orb, then type out "MSPAINT" without the quotes. You should see "MSPAINT" with a paint brush icon under a heading call "Programs". Open this by clicking it. A new window should appear. Look for a clipboard icon in the top right of the new window that appeared- it should say "Paste"- click it. Now save the file by pressing and holding the Control (ctrl) button AND the "S" button on your keyboard. A save menu should appear- choose a name for the file and make sure the file type is PNG (just below where you name the file you can select the file type to save as. Click the drop down where it says "Save as Type" then find and select PNG (*.PNG)- hit save and try uploading.

Once you've uploaded your screen shot, I will look it over and reply with next steps. If you have trouble, don't worry! I will be right here to help you along until you get a solution that satisfies you.

Solve : Internet Banking Browsing?

Answer»

How can i more secure my net banking in my computer. I heard that there are many viruses which copies all your observation so how can i protect from them. The most secure would be to use a Read-Only OS (Live Distro ) like booting a computer up with Knoppix Linux and this way the computer is always booted clean, is Linux one of the most secure OS's out there, and when you reboot no changes are saved and the next boot is like clean from factory. Pros= You can use this on same computer that otherwise would boot Windows etc... Cons = No real cons other than there is no saving of any data locally after shutdown or reboot.

Next most secure method is to physically install Linux to a computer that is to be used for this and keep it patched. 99% of the attack methods out there are geared towards Microsoft Windows OS to carry out an exploit or infection. Pros= Its Linux one of the most secure os's out there and you can save data to this system for WEBSITES visited to etc  Cons = Unless a dual boot system you would need a separate computer one for Windows and other for Linux unless you go with removable drives to have boot choice before power up with removable HDD bay installed.

Last method least most secure from these listed but Microsoft Windows based for anyone who doesnt want to deal with Linux, have a computer only used for banking and nothing else. If turned on only when banking and not used for social network sites, e-mail etc you limit the means by which a Windows OS can be infected. By the way on this system you would also have an up to date good antivirus and possibly even an INTERNET security suite running for additional protection beyond that of just the built in firewall. (* This could be accomplished on a single computer for both super secure and not so secure computing by installing a removable hard drive bay and depending on which drive you boot and run the system on, you are either super secure and careful or running on the drive that is for everything else. ) Pros = You dont have to work with Linux if you dont want to. Cons = Your still using Windows and so your putting yourself at a greater risk than that of Linux OS use and so your running a very small risk of problems, but this risk is greater than that of running a Linux OS IMO.

I have used all 3 methods of computing above to avoid problems. My most favorite is a Live Linux distro. And even better than Knoppix but not as full of bundled software I found out the the most recent Linux Mint 17.1 Cinnamon 32-bit DVD boots to a Live Linux Mint 17.1 environment and the Firefox browser has full Adobe Flash support so it works for all sites I have tested it with from banking to youtube and when you shutdown or reboot the computer, any chance of a malware attack is wiped clean for that 1% that might be out there that might TARGET Linux OS exploits which are very few.

Also Read-Only Live Linux Distro's are very useful when you need to navigate through a web site out there that is high risk for infection because scripts that are targeting Windows OS users wont function because there is a mismatch between the exploit that is attempted to infect etc and the OS your running. So for the shady part of the web a Live OS is a very well protected method of navigation through it if you ever needed to navigate through this dark alley of the internet where risk of being attacked or infected is very high with an OS other than Linux. Thanks for your reply but is there not any easy way or any software which make it secure banking because i am asking this question in behalf of an old lady neighbour.Best banking would be visiting the bank vs online, however if she must use online banking, I cant suggest anything more secure or equally secure to that of what I already shared....However I hear that Norton Internet Security is pretty good at keeping problems away, and if your running that you would also be running Norton Antivirus. Norton is good, but is a resource hog, so i dont run Norton anymore and only my corporate clients use Norton these days. Norton Internet Security also comes bundled with many systems so she might already have it, but it might be out of date if not updated with a subscription to Norton.

If she is the only one using her computer and no one else uses it, she is probably low risk for problems, however if others are using her computer and downloading stuff on it and going to questionable sites then she is higher risk for problems. Here is my viewpoint. There are a growing number of people  also feel this way.
Change you bank.  Visit the local branch. Talk to the people who work there.  You may find that lessor known backs have better service in  some things.  TALKING directly with a teller is more secure than  using a computer. Avoid on-line banking unless you really have to have it.

Credit cards. For on-line purchases, use of a Credit Card might be a better choice.  A Credit card company can offer additional protection from on-line fraud.  Your local banker may have some additional ideas about how to protect yourself.

Last year Forbes magazine published on article on this topic.
How To Avoid The Perils Of Online Banking
The author notes how easy it is to make a mistake with on-line services.
Quote

Ease of Making Mistakes
As Nessa Feddis, a senior vice president at the American Bankers Association, notes, “It is very easy in this electronic world to get caught up and move quickly, hit the send button before we mean to. We all need to take time, pause — and make sure the transaction is accurate.”
He went on to this this about criminal threats:
Quote
In 2011, for example, more than 360,000 Citibank accounts were hacked accounting for more than $2.7 million in losses. (Fortunately, U.S. banking rules limit a consumer’s liability for fraud to $50 in these cases; many banks waive even that liability.)
So, make sure your computer has the latest virus protection; don’t access your account from a public wi-fi system and change your passwords regularly.

Many banks offer an 800 number an account owner can use to VERIFY recent activity in the  account. Even Grandma can use the telephone, so that can be a handy way for her  to make sure everything is good with the  bank.

Still, it is safer to keep your money in the bank rather in your house. Quote from: DaveLembke on February 26, 2015, 07:15:41 PM

I believe Norton resolved their heavy-resource usage issues years ago.  Norton Internet Security came on my HP laptop, purchased in March 2013, and it was not, in any way, a resource hog.  I used it during the 60 day trial period; I would have continued with it had I not switched to avast Free Antivirus, which I was already familiar with from previous usage.

Actually, if she seems firmly oriented toward online banking, I'd suggest she log on to her account daily to monitor it.  She should also be made aware of the importance of using a strong password and keeping it secret.  She should also be aware that absolutely NO financial institution out there will ever correspond with her over her account via e-mail...
Worst mistake everyone falls for.

Solve : Browser's not working, other programs working fine.?

Answer»

So recently I've been experiencing a problem with my Windows Laptop. I run Windows 8, and my internet browsers have stopped working completely. I will type in an address on firefox or internet explorer, and it will load for like a minute and then just stop and keep displaying my homescreen. I am connected to the internet, and my anti-virus program does not block my internet access. My mail and Netflix programs still work on my laptop, so I know I am connected.

Any help?Have you tried resetting Firefox or Internet Explorer?Try deleting your browsing history.  In IE, click Tools, on the Menu bar, and select Delete browsing history.  And, do the equivalent in Firefox. Clearing the browsing history did not work. How would I go about resetting Firefox or IE?In IE, click Tools, Internet Options, select the Advanced tab, and click the Reset button in the lower part of that panel.  I haven't been using Firefox for awhile, so I can't tell you exactly how to do it in Firefox. Cleared my browser history in both, reset both browsers, and reset my computer. The internet programs are now both working perfectly. Thank you both for your help!Scratch that, about 5 minutes after posting that, the same thing happened. Now both of my browsers are useless again.1) PLEASE run full scans with BOTH your installed anti virus app and with MalwareBytes

2) Just for the heck of it, please download and try any other browser (OPERA, Chrome, Safari, etc).

3) Do you have other computers in the house (or on the same network)? If so, do they work normally?1) Go to windows Start menu --> In search box, type cmd --> Now right-click on "cmd.exe" ---> Select "Run as administrator" (Helps you to open with administrative privileges).

2) Press enter then type the following command

netsh int ip reset resetlog.txt

3) Press "Enter" and REBOOT the system(Make sure all the opened documents are saved).

Hope this helps!.Please stop resurrecting old TOPICS...Hi,

When browsing the internet some sites (face book ebay for example) OPEN very slowly if at all , while other sites open fine and in a time i would expect , we have a pc that is ATTACHED wireless that is working fine so i would assume it,s a PC ISSUE and not the internet itself,  I am not sure how to tackle this , i have cleared the internet history on both IE and fire fox which is the browser i use. The pc is running MS 7 HP WITH SERVICE PACK 1 when i look at a SYSTEM tab.

Any advice would be much appreciated , as i dont want to factory re-set my system unless i have to (my knowledge is basic..!!)

Solve : Internet connection issue on old laptop?

Answer»

I have an old laptop that I am trying to connect to the Internet. It is a Dell Latitude D610 RUNNING Windows XP. LAST time I used it, it was my primary computer and I had a Verizon USB drive and installed Verizon software to connect to the Internet. I have Adobe Creative Suite installed on that computer and the version I have (CS3) is not compatible with my current laptop that RUNS Windows 8. So I was just going to use it on the old laptop but it is asking me to verify the software online. So I plugged the laptop into my Comcast modem using an ethernet cable. It now SAYS it is connected but I still don't have Internet access. Any suggestions would be appreciated. On XP you have to re-create the Network connection from scratch via Control Panel/Network

Solve : Firefox no longer works with some versions of Windows XP?

Answer» From Mozilla...
They say...
Quote
Firefox 3.6.28 and Firefox 12 are the last versions of Firefox that will work with the original version of Windows XP and Windows XP Service Pack 1. They won't be updated with SECURITY and stability fixes. To keep your computer and personal information safe, we recommend that you upgrade for free to Windows XP Service Pack 3 and install the latest Firefox. This article goes over your upgrade options.
But the article is not dated.
Another solution is use Opera instead.

So, that means they will never fix it?

I don't think there is anything to "fix".

For the last two years, the latest versions of Firefox have not worked on Windows XP RTM, Windows XP SP1, and Windows XP SP1a. XP SP1a support was dropped because maintaining it meant using an old toolchain for everything.

Realistically, nobody running a 13-year old Operating System should be surprised when they cannot run the latest versions of software. Nor should they consider it a "bug" to be fixed that the software doesn't run on such systems. And in this case, it's not as if there is no upgrade path- realistically my question to those affected would be along the lines of why they are still running XP Gold or XP SP1 in the first place.
Thanks.
I have XP SP-3 with current updates. I have had trouble with Firefox losing my search sites settings. I want Google, but it gets switched over to Yahoo.
Right now I have version 36.0 and it is working good. Except it is hard to change the search site. Now it is stuck on Google and I will just leave it that WAY. To change it, I have to do four mouse clicks. Earlier versions would do it in one click

EDIT: Now in Windows 8.1 and I see what has happened.  Firefox now does not work the way it USED to. So sad.
EDIT again: OK Now I GET it.  Another day or two I will be alright.

Solve : Chrome question in regard to Office Attachments?

Answer»

There is this one user who uses Chrome Browser, and I am not familiar with advanced config for Chrome browser. On this system that others use Firefox browser in the office when accessing e-mail on the web at fairpoint, when there is an attachment with say an excel xls document attached, I have it POINTED to use Libre Office as the office software to handle and open the xls attachments. However on this new computer which Chrome Browser when accessing the e-mail and opening the xls attachment it launches the Trial of Microsoft Office. On these new COMPUTERS we are not going to ever be using Microsoft Office due to monetary constraints and Libre Office is all the users need. Problem is I cant seem to locate how to set Chrome up to know to use Libre Office as the software to handle Office extension files like *.doc, *.xls, and *.ppt files etc. In Firefox on this same computer it behaves and opens in Libre Office. I did a google search and I was finding everything BUT what I needed to know to fix this. Hoping someone else out there has run into this issue or knows how to make adjustment to Chrome to specify the default office program etc which I cant seem to locate. Hey Dave, what about checking and, if necessary, changing file association in Windows?  Reference: http://www.7tutorials.com/how-associate-file-type-or-protocol-program  I think I'd take a look at that.  It might be the underlying problem with regard to Chrome's behavior regarding those files.  Granted, this idea might not seem logical due to the difference behaviors of Chrome and Firefox that you mentioned.  But, I'm thinking Firefox might have it's own notion of how to handle those files, regardless of what the setting is in Windows file associations.  On the other hand, perhaps Chrome has it's own notion ...Instead of trying to guide Chrome to use Libre right clik an xls file and set Libre as the app association...Re-boot to save changes...
Other option is to completely dump the Office Trial...Thanks Soybean and Patio ... I will try that out tomorrow at WORK.

I was thinking that both Firefox and Chrome had their own notion, similar to how IE has its own. attached below is a pic from the IE notion for file association. If there is a preference to be set in Chrome, i didnt find it and either there is none or its hidden under a path to GET there that doesnt stand out. I figured all browsers had this feature and maybe I'm wrong in this assumption.

I didnt even think about uninstalling the  MS Trialware as Patio stated. Maybe if I do this a pop up box would display and I can tell it how to handle the xls extension etc.

Solve : IE 11 will not open Verizon webmail?

Answer»

Helping my SIL again. IE 11 was working ok but over the last couple months has had increasing difficulty opening the Verizon web mail log-in PAGE. Even if it opens and she can log in, it is extremely slow and often gets a message saying IE is not responding and shutting down. IE 11 is opening other internet sites fine. I installed Chrome and it appears to have solved the problem. While working in her Verizon ACCOUNT, I saw a notification advising her that her router encryption was out of date and should be upgraded to WPA2. Since her PC is hard wired into her router, I assume the encryption issue has nothing to do with IE 11's inability to open/connect to Verizon email? Oh, she has no problems opening Verizon email from her iPad and IPHONE.

I have the same Win 7 OS and IE 11. I also have Verizon email and no problems with IE 11 opening Verizon. When I try to open her Verizon account on my PC, sometimes it works fine and sometimes it doesn't. There seems to be an issue between IE 11 and her Verizon webmail account which is much worse on her computer than mine, but not completely resolved on my PC. Any thoughts about what is going on? Thanks. It is an old problem and it is still there.

Try this: Open the webpage in compatibility mode

Thanks Geek. Yes, I had already read those links and tried all of the fixes. Chrome is opening fine so I will consider it a permanent fix. It just bugs me not knowing why these things happen. What is it about my SIL's Verizon account that makes it incompatible with IE 11? It is not a hardware issue because I tried to open SIL account several times this morning on my rig with IE 11 and it would not work. Used Chrome and it opened just fine. Go figure.Try running IE11 with addons dis-abled...it may be 1 of them... Quote from: patio on March 10, 2015, 07:20:25 AM

Solve : Google, Firefox, I'm mixed up !?

Answer»

I have a Firefox icon on desktop. I clk on it to bring up Google page which says, 'make Google your search engine'. I have to clk on the down arrow which BRINGS up a drop-down list from which I choose Google. From this, I can finally get Google & type in what I'm looking for. What goes on here ?
I have a mess I can't seem to get straightened out. Thanks a bunch ! Try this.
Get rid of that shortcut on the desktop.
Start up Firefox and go to the Google site.
Then make a bookmark. Then drag the the book mark to the desktop.
Wait, here's a B setter explanation.
https://support.mozilla.org/en-US/kb/create-desktop-shortcut-website
Any website address can be made into a shortcut for the desktop.
Quote

Create a desktop shortcut to a website
You can use Firefox to create a shortcut on your computer's desktop to a page you've visited:
Resize the Firefox window so you can see both your computer's desktop and the Firefox window on the same screen.
CLICK the icon on the left of the address bar (where the URL is shown).
While still holding the mouse button down, move the pointer to the desktop, then release the mouse button. The shortcut will be created.
That should do it!

Solve : Youtube videos hanging on the loading circle?

Answer»

So this started a day or 2 ago and I cant quite find the issue. Videos on youtube just wont play. They do the loading circle for buffering but never actually load. Like so:

I've tested this problem on my phone, but my phone's youtube app works fine. Unfortunately I can't test it on my laptop.

I've tried updating my flash player to the newest version, but it has not made any improvements.

The best I can think of is recently I modified some of my video card settings to try to GET better performance. I didn't mess with any video options but who knows if I accidently CLICKED something.

Any ideas? I've asked friends if their youtube vids are loading fine, and they are so I'm not sure what the issue is.No, I do not have a simple answer.
Possibly you may have altered some settings that mattered.
My I suggest something you can try.
Try making a new user account on your compere.
Rest and log into the new account. It will take a bit to save the settings for the new user. Then go to YouTube and see if that makes a difference.
What happens?

So an interesting note. I decided to try another browser.

Loaded up a video in google chrome and it played no problem.

I created a SECOND user account, but logged onto it immediately and it worked on firefox then too. Will check again in the morning too.

Solve : IE 11-keep getting message that is has stopped working and must close?

Answer»

I have TRIED everything that Microsoft site says to try.  I even uninstalled completely and did fresh install.  Tried going to a different version.

Nothing has fixed it.  I have to use Internet Explorer for work as the sites that I must use require it.

Not sure what else to do.  Very frustrating and time consuming.

Windows 7 64 bitExactly how did you uninstall IE?  I wonder how you did that since IE comes with Windows and normally is not uninstalled by a user.  Do you mean that you rolled back IE to an EARLIER version?

Do you have any other browsers installed?

Does this error occur when viewing certain websites, when multiple tabs are opened, when viewing Flash content, etc?

Do you have any malware/spyware protection apps installed?  Have you tried deleting your browsing history? I uninstalled from programs and then from windows updates.
I have Chrome and Firefox.  Neither give me a problem.
Error occurs randomly with no obvious trigger
I have malware/spyware protection the same as I always have.
Yes, I have deleted my browsing history, cookies, cache etc Quote from: SuzanG on April 23, 2015, 06:39:54 AM

I have Chrome and Firefox.  Neither give me a problem.
Then, why not set one of them as your default browser and ignore IE?

And, you could try IE after FUTURE updates to it VIA Windows Updates; perhaps the issue will be resolved after an update.  Otherwise, I don't know what to tell you about IE.  I find it somewhat unstable on my Win 8.1 laptop; it tends to falter when more than a few tabs are opened with different websites in them; I often get a pause where IE will stop and DISPLAY a message about recovering the page or I sometimes get an error message saying IE needs to close.

Solve : Browser and Email?

Answer»

Hello,
How do I choose which web browser is associated to my EMAIL? What I mean is when I click on some thing in my email what web browser will open up so I can view it.

ThanksWhichever web browser is SET as your default browser is the one that will open when you click on a hyperlink in an email message in an email client (Windows Live Mail, Outlook, etc.).  You can open a panel to set or change default programs by going to Control Panel and opening Default Programs.

Which web browser currently opens when you click on a hyperlink in an email message?  That's a clue to your current default browser.  And, you should have NOTICED that when you install a new browser, you are asked whether you want to make that browser your default browser.  Usually, you can either ACCEPT or decline.  And, you usually have an option to not SHOW that message again.  Thus, the need for a special panel, i.e. Default Programs in Control Panel, to set or change default programs.

Yet another way to change the default browser is within the settings for a particular browser.

I think you know what a proxy is.
This is a reference for others.
http://www.techgyd.com/free-proxy-sites-list-2014/12890/
Here is one that works for me.
http://www.kproxy.com/

If the proxy can get it, but you can not, it means the problem s local. Maybe your ISP  Or maybe  your router.

I've never used a proxy, can you explain what this does and how to use it. I'm not sure. I would greatly appreciate it. OK. Here is the sire I use.
http://www.kproxy.com/
Just click on it. It wail ask whet web site you want. It will then bring up the site in a frame. You will be able to read from the site you want, but some secukrity features may not work. Like on-line gaming or shopping.

The proxy is a a middle man or in-between to help you get to a web site whkkne there is some kind of trouble  in the system.
B.C. (Before Computers) the term proxy was sometimes use in marriage. Necuase of LIMITED transportation in early times, a marriage might be done by proxy.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Proxy_marriage
Quote

From Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia
A proxy wedding or (proxy marriage) is a wedding in which one or both of the individuals being united are not physically present, usually being represented instead by other persons. If both partners are absent a double proxy wedding occurs.
Marriage by proxy is usually resorted to either when a couple wish to marry but one or both partners cannot attend for reasons such as military service, imprisonment, or travel restrictions; or when a couple lives in a JURISDICTION in which they cannot legally marry.
Proxy weddings are not recognized as legally binding in most jurisdictions: both parties must be present. A proxy marriage contracted elsewhere may be recognised where proxy marriage within the jurisdiction is not; for example, Israel recognises proxy marriages abroad between Israelis who might not have been permitted to marry in Israel.
But I have no personal experience with that kind of proxy.

The site is working fine on this end...just so you know.Thank you, I talked to the guy that runs the site. He TOLD me that he checked my IP address and it was clean. So I still didn't understand why this issue is still happening. This is what I have figured out. He is using CloudFlare to protect his site from malware etc. he said he was going to shut it off and asked me to go to the site. Once he did that I could access the site with no issue. So I'm guessing its this service CloudFlare he is using. He put in a ticket for service and probably will not hear back for a couple of days.

https://www.cloudflare.com/Well if THATS true why wouldn't CloudFare block me when i logged in ? ?
Sounds fishy to me...
BTW it's a poorly built website...I figured that it was poorly built and that is why this is happening. Thank you for your help. I really appreciate it. Oh what do you see that is poor about it? Just curious. You can try using a proxy server.

Solve : Chromodo ... Installed Comodo AV to a system and noticed this alt browser?

Answer»

So I installed Comodo AV to a system because AVG is only available through installing a cnet downloader service etc and I dont want to have to install a downloader to download what should be a direct download.

Noticed that Comodo has a Chromodo browser. Also it rounded up Firefox and IE and placed them as sandbox browsers in the interface on the top right of the desktop.

Is this Chromodo any good or is it just Google Chrome with heightened security settings? To me it looks like Comodo slapped their name on Chrome.

Found this link on google search of others who think the name is a joke and other browsers that Comodo should add their name to http://malwaretips.com/threads/chromodo-browser.41749/

Found this wiki that speaks HIGHLY of the browser and differences between itself and chrome: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comodo_Dragon

That exe seems to be a standalone installer. To avoid bloatware, do the usual THINGS, i.e.  choose "Basic protection" and "Custom install".

Solve : Slow Browser?

Answer»

Hello,

For the last couple of days my Opera 28.0.1750.48 has gotten really slow, especially if there are images on the web site I am at. I did a scan with ESET on-line scan YESTERDAY and it found quite a few things that were removed. But still my browser is slow. I was looking into clearing my CACHE and all that but not sure where to start. Other than TELLING me to get a different browser any suggestions would be appreciated.

ThanksI have Opera 28.0.1750.51 installed on my Win 8.1 laptop but I've stopped USING it in recent weeks.  I became frustrated with sluggish performance.  So, Opera might be the problem in your case and the only solution is to do what you don't want to hear, to switch to another browser.  You could periodically revisit Opera and see whether future updates perform better; that's probably what I'll do. You may also wanna visit SpeedTest.net to check your connection...I did the speed test and every thing looks fine. I think it's my entire computer that's slow. I thinking about reformatting the hard drive to clean it up. I've been trying to clean it up over the past few days but it's not doing much. I looked at Chrome and Firefox but they put a lot of unwanted things on my computer.FireFox doesn't... Quote

FireFox doesn't..

That's funny every time I've downloaded and installed it it has.It looks like things are about back to normal. It could have been a problem with my internet provider over the weekend. Another thing if you have the time and willingness.
Do a check on the hard drive, then defrag it.  After that, open up some space on the drive to allow a new install of your favorite OS, or maybe another OS.
So install another OS and setup a dual-boot. This lets you experiment with two instances of the same OS, or maybe another OS.

From personal tests I did on by PCs , I found that the newer install was LEAN and fast . Not sure way. I think it is all the stuff that somehow gets on my PC without my knowing about it. AV scans don't seem to help much. But rate needed, of course.

Thanks Geek-9pm, that sounds like a good idea. I used to do some thing similar, I had two hard drives on my computer with the same operating system, not hooked up at the same time though. I would experiment with the second, back-up one and if I messed it up so what, reformat it and try again.
I think a new install doesn't have have all that crap running in the background and things left behind. A new install is lean and fast. The trick is not to fall for all the hype out there and end up with a bunch of garbage from installing and uninstalling so much stuff.  Yeah, I hear you.
Hard to get free software without something attached.  Quote from: sloan448 on April 13, 2015, 12:04:21 PM

It never did on my end...sorry 'bout your luck...Well I've got my 1T hard-drive divided into 2 500gb partitions. Now all I have to do is install the operating system on the second partition to do some experimenting.

Solve : Browser or Virus issue ??

Answer»

Hello!
Can't figure this one out..thought I'd give the forum a try..it's been very helpful in the past...

Dell Pro Venue 8 tablet. Have had SINCE Dec of 2013. Hardly any issues. Running windows 8.1, Malware Anti-Malware Bytes and Avast (all free versions).

Lately, occasionally I've been unable to connect to our secure home Verizon  DSL (while EVERYONE else in the house has no problem CONNECTING). For some reason, I have to keep going in to Device Manager and disabling and re-enabling the Network Adapter.

Issue #2 (and most frustrating) - occasionally I'll bring up a website and right away it will switch to an old format..kind of similar to an ancient mobile version of the website.  If it's a site with videos, the videos won't play.. the websites that I've encountered issues with are: CNN, Allrecipes, YouTube, Pandora, and Amazon.

Hopefully someone can help.

Thanks!

JenniferHi jentaylor728, Regarding issue 1, Im thinking that your tablet may have a problem with the Wi-Fi ( as in motherboard component).
Have you tried to connect to a friends Wi-Fi at all? What is the result there?
Do you have to disable & re-enable it to get a connection?
Local businesses, schools, universities, McDonalds etc sometimes have free ACCESS points. Have you tried your tablet in these locations?

for issue 2, have you tried to uninstall the browser, (LETS presume it is Firefox) reboot the computer, then open an alternative browser like IE to download a new version of the browser you are using. Does your problem still exist after this?
What happens when you use an alternative browser, lets say Chrome?

Another alternative is purchase a Wi-Fi USB, They are very cheap. Disable the tablet wi-fi, plug in the usb & see if the problem persists.

Hope some of this can help you.

Solve : Streaming video and audio buffers?

Answer»

Streaming VIDEO and audio BUFFERS

My computer started buffering streaming video and audio that it didn't do before. The internet connection speed is the same as before. I checked the download speed on speedtest.net and it shows 6 MBPS that I am supposed to receive. I did a ping test at pingtest.net and the ping is 64ms and jitter 4ms. It gave a line quality of B*.

The computer is Gateway DX4320-02e with 6 GB memory running Windows 7. It has integrated ATI Radeon HD 4250 graphics. I connect to my home router through a TP-Link Wireless USB adapter. I checked the adapter is working properly by using it on a different computer - a laptop and placing the laptop at the same location as my Gateway desktop in the house, and SAW that the same streaming video that buffers on my desktop runs fine on the laptop. This tells me that wifi signal STRENGTH and wireless adapter are not the problem. Video saved on my desktop's hard drive runs fine. I have the same problem with streaming music. Songs saved on my hard drive play normally but streaming from the internet buffers.

Can I conclude the problem is occurring in my desktop computer? What can I do to find the problem and correct it?
One  Two very simple things.
1. Boot in Safe mode  *
2. Create a new user account.

This may not solve the problem, but helps isolate the cause. It  would seem that there are too many background things using the Internet. Sometimes these are associated with references of one user.

* Safe mode may require you to use Ethernet cable for internet.

Solve : IE is not working and must close----still having trouble?

Answer»

I am back...still having the same trouble and I waited until the most recent updates and still get the same ERROR message.  Program must shut down.  Right in the middle of my work.
Only happens with IE

I have to use IE for many of my business sites that I have to go too.  They will not work with other browsers.

Does anyone have something that worked for them?  It is terribly disruptive.

Is there a Microsoft link that take me to an expert that MAY be able to help?

Your OS?  What version of IE are you using?

What you say is hard to believe at this point in time.  Browsers other than IE have gained much of the market share IE once held a decade or longer ago. Those "business sites" you mentioned should be testing their sites to work with at least one or two browsers other IE.  Can you name one or more of the sites that give you problems?  thank you for your response.  I put my husbands laptop up with my desktop and made sure to remove anything that his did not have on there, from mine (by disabling) or check or uncheck boxes etc. and now it works!

I have had many PEOPLE argue with me about the browser not working for Insurance companies that I work with and tell me that this just cannot be.  I live it every day so I know that it is true.Usually what I've seen for sites that require IE is for internal/Intranet sites or are accessed within a VPN connection. I've yet to find an Internet-facing page that absolutely requires IE to be usable.

From the looks of it the site is probably using an ActiveX Control or something which in the OP had crashed and took IE with it, which would explain why the site wouldn't work on other browsers. Quote from: SuzanG on June 19, 2015, 01:46:01 PM

Solve : Firefox 39.0?

Answer»

Am using an HP Envy laptop with Windows 8.1 Home, McAfee Anti virus and Malwarebytes are utilized 2-3 times a week. As is Ccleaner. But seems the system (Browser ?) is a little slower, ESPECIALLY in Face Book where in addition to the mouse pointer is the small blue CIRCLE going around indicating something running in the background. A check into Task Manager doesn't INDICATE ANYTHING unusual.
Anybody got any ideas to narrow down the possibilities? 1) Just Facebook or other sites too?

2) Does the same thing happen with other browsers or just Firefox?

3) What happens with Firefox with add-ons disabled?

Solve : about : config, increasing display in new tab F/F?

Answer»

This COMPUTER is a Dell laptop 1545, probably over 5 yrs old with MS Vista home, 3 gig ram, 400 gig drive. Firefox 37.0.2 ( most used browser).

It had a cold & Dr Dave gave it some anitbiotics bringing it back to health. (Thanks SuperDave).

Firefox used to open a new tab with the 6 most used sites displayed. I was happy with that. Sometimes it would show more, 9, 12 etc. if I wanted.

After we fixed the computer, now, it will only display 3 most used page sites. I have tried to alter the SETTINGS in config. Newtabbrowser column,  altering it to 4 & row to 4 & some other variations, but nothing changes.

I have tried altering the browser settings from classic to enhanced but no joy either.

Do I have to SAVE those settings after altering them or have I done it incorrectly.
Can someone give me some guidance on the process or offer a solution to get New tabs to show more most used sites please.

Many thanks.  IMNOGURU.

I'm having the issue that none of my browser's chrome, firefox, and explorer are LOADING any pages. The exception is when I first start up my computer after shut down and for about the first minute pages will load. This has happened a few times before but after a couple of days everything is fine again. This time however it has not SOLVED itself.

Any help would be great!Hello... is this over wireless or hard wired with CAT5 cable? When this HAPPENS can you ping www.google.com with successful pings? Yes I can ping google successfully. What protection apps do you have...and when's the last time you updated them and ran scans ? Solve : Multiple switches connecting together?

Answer»

Can you please leave any advice and opinions pertaining to multiple switches connecting together.

In every office in our building has 3 to 5 switches connecting together and we have total of 17 offices.  then my IT manger complaining the slow performance of our network. so he ask me to give any ideas whats going on, he insist that the network connection is the CAUSED and not on the server. so i checked the network connection in every office then i noticed 1, 2 or 3 switches connecting together. also 1 unit of wireless router every office. network cables are old.

Thank you in advance for the reply

This topic should be in Networking.

In commercial use, a hub or switch should feed 16 users. In good practice there should not have to ever be more that two switches from any users to thew main server. But each office can has its own layout.

If the system is really several years old, like maybe over 15 years and has grown, it may be time to review the entire topology.  You may need the help of outside consultants.

Something that complex can not be resolved with a few changes if it  is a large system. How many workstations are there? Over 100?

You said 3 to 5 switches. That sounds very huge.  Can you share with us the exact model numbers of the switches or hubs you have so we dont have to guess on your hardware. Hopefully there are no hubs as for hubs are old and should be replaced due to the poor performance they have with no traffic MANAGEMENT. Hopefully DHCP is CENTRALIZED vs at the far end of a SERIES of switches. Wire being old shouldnt matter as long as its Cat 5 or Cat 5e. Also a layout of how your network is connected to what servers etc can also help us point out ways to improve network performance.

Solve : Tor and VPN what's the difference??

Answer»

Hi, everyone

I'm not very computer savvy but have HEARD of Tor and seen on a politics forum the mention of using VPN in countries where REGIMES don't like dissidents!

I've had a look at some info. but am still a bit confused for example is Tor a VPN and if you use a VPN do you still search the WEB with Google or whatever search engine you normally use?

I've seen CYBERGHOST on a review site as a free VPN and thought I'd GIVE it a go but is there any problem removing it if I decided not to keep it?

I also don't understand how your ISP cannot "see" what you are searching for even if you are using Tor or another VPN.
Hope I've posted this in the right place and any info. would be really great. Thanks.Hi There

Solve : Anonymous Browsers.?

Answer»

I've been using Firefox as my default browser for a number of years but lately getting a whack load of tracking cookies. I sometimes use DuckDuckGo as an alternative and am tempted to use it (or similar) as my default search engine.

Don't want to make an impulsive decision, which I have been known to do -> so would appreciate any feedback on the topic.

What about flushing them on exit of browser?

http://www.pcworld.com/article/2846020/how-to-automatically-delete-your-cookies-every-time-you-close-your-browser.html

I also use an addon called Ghostery as seen here: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/ghostery/Do not assume all cookies are bad.
Look at this item in the CH archives:

Cookies received over the Internet should be considered more useful than dangerous. Without cookies, USERS could not have customized settings or would have to verify their identity each time they visit a site.
In fact, CH needs a cookie to KEEP you logged into the forum
Thanks for the comments, I think I'll purge the cookies after my FF browser sessions as DAVE suggested and might even test drive Ghostery for a bit.

Although I realize some cookies are necessary, there is a very THIN line between privacy & convenience. That's my cynicism talking, not my PARANOIA

Solve : open multi windows at a time?

Answer»

Every time I go to my Hotmail or open any windows, it open up multiple windows and slows down the process, HO can I STOP those POP up windows from opening ?Is it normal for the site your visiting to do this... as in are you trying to disable a natural behavior of a website or ... do you have a system that is infected with a browser hijacker thats launching windows you dont want?

Malwarebytes can clean up a browser infection.

DISABLING other windows from opening on a system that is not infected and this is the normal functionality of the website is almost impossible because your browser is getting the info direct from the web server from that website which is telling to load these windows. You would need a proxy and some programming to allow some of the websites content to go through and stripping it of what you dont want in which content from a website is dynamically reconstructed/reformatted to your liking. This isnt an easy process. He's infected...Hotmail doesn't open multi windows. What program i should run to clean my computer, can you send me a link
Visit the Malware section of the Forum and post as much info as you can...SOMEONE will be along shortly to assist.

Geek-9pm has a triple boot system as I recall- XP, Windows 10-, and I'm too lazy to find the third. Windows XP is what Geek-9pm is familiar with and he has mentioned he has Windows 10 installed to try to learn it as well. So it's not like he's refusing to even look at anything more recent. And some people are crazy and like to use hardware and software from decades ago for some reason.

-Posted from an iMac G3.In Windows XP I make a extra effort to give each  important folder in 'My Documents' a logo that  shows up when I use the thumbnail view.
And of curse, Windows 10 distorts the logo and puts it on edge. If I WANTED it on edge, I WOULD have made it that way.

And then it forgets that I PREFER large icons and reverts back to tiny little things that have not visual value at all. In other words, Windows 10 is a non-user HUI  system. It does not want you to RECOGNIZE anything you have created, only what it wants you to see. I like my own logos and icons better. I know what they mean and why I made them.

By the time Windows XP stops  working altogether, I might have gone to another bank.    Quote from: Geek-9pm on November 10, 2017, 10:49:16 PM

I see no such behavior, i.e. putting the logo assigned to a folder in Documents on Edge,  in Windows 10.Folder PICTURES Definitely work differently on Win10. on WinXP setting a Folder Picture for thumbnail view placed that thumbnail flat in front of the folder image for thumbnail view, on Win10 you can set a Folder Image but it is painted as if it was a piece of "content" within the folder.

Solve : Links give weird message?

Answer»

Windows 7 Pro, 64 - Firefox   I can't say initially when this problem started, but there are some mostly news links that I will click on and all I will get is a black screen with 1 tiny, white, dot in the center and the message:  f(PNG Image, 1x1 pixels).  It won't bring up either the article or the picture that may go with it.  Is there some sort of tweaking I have to do with my browser to fix this?  Thanks for reading this..............

Looks like a common tracking pixel. Used to see that you were there at a specific page etc. Although usually its a gif to be hidden. More info at link below. I am guessing its just 1 website that has this issue? Have you TESTED this website with Internet Explorer to see if it has same problem? Do you have any adblockers or content blockers enabled? Does it display properly on another computer or smart device.

Maybe the webmaster for that page goofed and made a NAME with a .png instead of .gif for that 1x1 pixel. The .png might not exist ( server side ) and thats why you see the error message for .png which if it was coded in html as .gif WOULD would never have known they were tracking who was accessing their website because .gif for that 1x1 pixel may exist.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Web_beaconThank you for your information, and sorry I didn't get back to you SOONER, but the download I did for the newest FireFox seems to have taken care of the problem.  It did work when I went through Internet Explorer, at your suggestion, but not FireFox.  Problem is resolved with Firefox's update.

Solve : Pogo, Firefox & Windows 10?

Answer»

First off Hello!!

We have been PLAYING Pogo Games on Firefox with Windows 10 for a long time now without many problems. Today Firefox will not load Pogo on a particular computer - it will load on the other Win 10 Firefox computers in the home but not one in particular. What could be the problem with this one computer. Went to bed everything fine, wake up today and Firefox refuses to load the WEBSITE.

I've cleaned out the computer (cookies, cache etc...), I've freshened Firefox - nothing, I've reinstalled Firefox- nothing, I've made sure the computer, drivers, java and flashplayer are all updated - they are. I've also reset the modem. Nothing I am doing for this one computer is helping today.

What am I not thinking of that could fix this problem? As I said same set up on other home computers works fine, this one computer the Win 10/Firefox Pogo Games WAS working fine and SUDDENLY won't load the website.

EDIT: I've tried Edge and Pogo will work on the Edge for this computer - but we prefer Firefox to play on as before.

Any help will be APPRECIATED

When is the last time you updated and ran all your protection apps ? ?Today - But I might NEED to rerun them on a deep scan - I think they were ran on a quick scan - I'll try that!!! Thanks patio!!! You're more than Welcome...keep us posted as it may be somethin else...I am working on my sister-in-laws computer, exactly the same issue started on the 17th or 18th of Jan.  Except hers is the other way, works on Chrome not on Edge.  She prefers Edge.  I went thru all the settings, cleared cache, double checked update....blah blah blah...I have no hair left to pull.  Post your results if and when you solve this one.  It's a dilly...Starting to sound like its a Pogo issue from what i see...

Solve : How these extensions are relevant to the functioning of Google Chrome??

Answer»

Hello folks!

Please refer to the enclosed pictorial description & help suggest on the relevance of these extensions which comes pre-loaded with every afresh installation of Google chrome?

How come these constitute an indispensable bundling with Google Chrome? How actually are these put to use in a Real-time web browsing experience?

What if we decide to get rid of all of these? How will it affect our experience or impact the core FUNCTIONING of Google chrome?

Does it make any difference with or without these? I mean, why carry an extra load all the time?

Why not bid these a permanent Goodbye on Google Chrome's installation?

Inputs will be greatly appreciated.

Thank you.

otherwise, remove them.

is there a bigger issue than that? Quote from: Mark. on December 27, 2017, 04:44:06 AM

is there a bigger issue than that?

The point is - even if need these, how can these be put to use in a CONSPICUOUS way?One WOULD normally expect a drop-down menu at the toolbar of the web-browser (similar to other browser extensions) to facilitate the creation of a new doc, spreadsheet or a slide OR ACCESS the ones already stored in the Google drive!

But there is nothing of that sort !?

So how can I see these in action? i.e. performing in  Real-time?

They are used to make accessing Google Docs offline more consistent with a normal desktop experience/application.

So I need to have certain docs, spreadsheets or slides stored under my local Google Drive to experience how these function?
Are these designed/meant to work in conjunction with the contents stored within our local Google Drive?
Are the contents of our local Google Drive end up opening within Google Chrome when in Offline state?
Thanks for your patience. When you have one of the apps open you can use the Settings->More Tools->Add To Desktop to utilize the extensions.
