Solve : FireFox 52.7 ESR. You may like it.? |
Answer» Firefox users will note Firefox has been moving ahead. Firefox Extended Support Release (ESR) is intended for system administrators who deploy and maintain the desktop environment in organizations such as universities and other schools, COUNTY or city governments and businesses. The current ESR is 52.7 and is what I use for all my browsing, unless there is some web site that will not work for me. One advantage of the 52.7 is that it is the version that allows legacy add-nos and extensions in Firefox. For me it lets me use an older password manager that I prefer. So, this is a commendation for FireFox ESR. It will get security updates, but the basic functionality does not change. It is available in a number of platforms and many, many LANGUAGES. Oh, FORGOT to mention, you want 52.7 for Windo2ws XP. [attachment deleted by admin to conserve space] |

Solve : Cannot view YouTube videos, ( due to their Flash Content ), on Chrome browser...? |
Answer» Running Win 10 with Chrome browser Version 67.0.3396.87 (Official BUILD) (64-bit). Cannot view You Tube videos due to their Flash Content. Every tutorial I've watched, ( or read ), is over-simplified, and does not work! I have gone into Chrome's advanced SETTINGS, added https://www.youtube.com/ to the allow flash content AREA. I've even disabled my HARDWARE acceleration. Everything I've been told, or read about. Nothing works. So, I no longer have Chrome designated as my default browser, because I cannot watch You Tube videos. In an earlier version of Chrome, I learned what the "fix" for this predicament was, and I successfully implemented it, ( but that was 2 years ago ). I should have made note. Today, I cannot remember what I did, and therefore, I cannot duplicate that "fix" today, in hopes that it might work, and be effective with this newer version of Chrome. So, I need HELP. Please help me solve this? Please? It's not an ad blocker. I uninstalled it. It's not my anti-virus software either. There's some little, quirky trick to this, ( and I used to know what it is ), but I cannot remember now. So, please help me? Thanks so much....while someone works out the fix for Chrome, what about another browser; Firefox, Edge, Opera? You can visit https://www.youtube.com/html5 and set the "The HTML5 player is currently used when possible.". I've had no issues with youtube and I've purged Flash or set it to prompt to use (and don't receive such a prompt with Youtube) for some time. |

Solve : Chrome on Smart Phones - Caching Websites for Offline Viewing? |
Answer» I have a Geek App 2.0 on my Smart Phone and it brought to my attention that Chrome now has the ability to cache websites for offline VIEWING; ( mainly intended for locations in the world where internet access is few and far between ), where you go to the sites from an internet connection on a android device with Chrome and then you can DOWNLOAD them to cache of the browser to be able to view them again from an area where there is no internet access. This is really cool as for I only have internet on my phone when I connect to an open wifi because I save my 160MB data plan for emergency USE only when connecting to 3G network. I have a Tracfone that costs me just $19.99 every 90 days and my LG16C Phone with its 1.2Ghz Snapdragon Dual-core Arm processor is plenty for what I do. |

Solve : How to install html5 on Windows XP to play videos on Mozilla?? |
Answer» I know my OS is old. But it works fine on my old computer. Recently I found that lots of sites with video, for example Youtube live stream, TEND to use html5, my Mozilla refuses to play it, I wrote them and they said I have to install html5 support on WinXP. But how to install?? Someone advised Primetime html5 content decryption module. But it's not supported by Adobe anymore. So is there other way to make my Mozilla on Windows XP play html5 videos?Firefox works on Windows XP SP2 (and SP3) all the way to Windows 10. However Firefox 53.0 and later will be dropping WinXP and Vista support. WinXP and Vista users can use the then Firefox 52 ESR for security updates for a while still as the 52.8.0 ESR will be out when Firefox 60.0 is released. Friend of mine is using Google Chrome browser on a Pentium 4 2.6Ghz running XP Home SP3 on 1GB RAM with NVIDIA GeForce 6200 AGP Video card with 256MB RAM and HTML 5 videos etc are PLAYING ok on it on 1024 x768 resolution. So if you run into troubles with Firefox you could try Chrome Browser. Quote from: japygy on May 03, 2018, 10:08:20 PM Firefox works on Windows XP SP2 (and SP3) all the way to Windows 10. However Firefox 53.0 and later will be dropping WinXP and Vista support. WinXP and Vista users can use the then Firefox 52 ESR for security updates for a while still as the 52.8.0 ESR will be out when Firefox 60.0 is released. The support issue is unrelated...mostly security issues FFox should still function fine on XP. The HTML5 addon is available at the extensions page. He went to the wrong source for HTML5. A possible alternative would be SeaMonkey. SeaMonkey will play some videos the older Firefox can not. Sea Monkey builds follow FFox builds...just so you know.Patio, for some reason SeaMonkey works on XP on Amazon video. But recent versions of Firefox Amazon will block. Anybody's guess why the pick on Firefox and let SeaMonkey go in. Amazon says it is the 'unsupported OS'. STRANGE mystery. That would lead one to think that either SeaMonkey upgrades the OS or does not tell Amazon it is XP. |

Solve : Why is there no password asked to access Chrome's "Manage passwords" tab? |
Answer» I use Win7 and dont have a password when opening a session because i'm moslty by myself, but I noticed that while i'm away, anyone that can open chrome and go into the manage password TAB can just see anything without any security QUESTION asked... is the WINDOWS 7 login password and the chrome manage password security code linked, because I don't see any option in the chrome settings to lock this tab.No...and if you have not set a password for Chrome it behaves like the above... I'm the Chrome browser security tech lead, so it might help if I explain our reasoning here. The only strong permission boundary for your password STORAGE is the OS user account. So, Chrome uses whatever encrypted storage the system provides to keep your passwords safe for a locked account. Beyond that, however, we've found that boundaries within the OS user account just aren't reliable, and are mostly just theater.Your confusing the issue...The sign in was for your Google account...not Chrome. Solve : Having problems with IE? |
Answer» I have something weird happening when I use Internet EXPLORER...I will go onto Facebook, Realtor.com, and some other websites and I will be there anywhere from five to ten MINUTES and the screen starts blipping, flashing kind of, my favorites list OPENS, I'll x out of it and reopen IE and go back to the website I was on. Everything is fine but will start doing it again, so I change to Google Chrome to do what I want. I like using IE on FB as I play games there and the board is bigger than on Chrome. This has been happening off and on for about five months, it's just getting worse. SuperDave had me clean my computer and everything was fine, except this problem crept back in. Do you know what the problem might be? I have IE 11 I think. My computer is a Dell Inspirion, Intel i5-4460, CPU 3.20 GHz, RAM 8 GB, 64-bit. I bought it November 2015. |

Solve : How do you stay signed in after you shut your computer off?? |
Answer» I used to be able to shut my computer off and then when you turn it back on, you wouldn't have to LOG into each SITE. You'd be automatically logged in. How do you do that as I can't remember how?If you want to be always logged into web sites, you need to find, on each site that you visit, (usually on the log in page) an option called SOMETHING like "keep me logged in". usually a check/tick box. You need to do this once, at login, for each site that you visit. If you had previously done this for a number of sites, but now they are all gone back to making you log in, then possibly you deleted all of your cookies, or maybe you have started using a different browser?I used to have the box "keep logged in" which I checked. I do click on that box when I log in but when I shut the computer down and go back to a website, I have to sign in. I'm still using the same browser, Google Chrome, which is what I was using before. You haven't set Chrome to delete cookies? MIGHT be worth reading this |

Solve : Is it Google Chrome's Fault, Directvnow fault or my fault?? |
Answer» Google Chrome CONSTANTLY shuts down. I'll be on Directvnow.com and have a couple of other tabs open and it will shut down. Then, it will say something of the effect "Google Chrome didn't shut down correctly. RESTORE Pages?" I want to know why it's doing this and if there is a solution. Is it because of Directvnow.com? Do I have to free up memory? It's not clean the cookies, is it? I hope it's not because I have to sign in again and type my password, where if I don't clean the cookies, the passwords are automatically there on the website. Plus, I'm having trouble with my email, so there's a GOOD CHANCE that if I sign into a website again, USING my email, I won't be able to get into the site. |

Solve : Opera Crashing? |
Answer» Hi, Most programs created for earlier versions of Windows will work in this version of Windows, but some older programs might run POORLY or not at all. Running the Program Compatibility Troubleshooter should automatically detect and fix some of the most common issues. If that doesn’t work, try changing the settings manually. The following table should help you figure out which setting to adjust. Then there is the question of hardware issues. Quote from: Geek-9pm on February 02, 2019, 07:01:44 PM You should try two things less drastic than a Windows install. Thank you for your suggestions. I'm currently using Opera 49, I also have versions 20 and 37 and I'm reluctant to downgrade to an earlier version. The reason being to do with the two Opera Software folders which are to be found in the Application Data Folder on the C: drive, one in the Local folder, the other in Roaming. Just in case I have to do a re-installation of the Windows OS I keep all my data files on a portable DISC drive, which has several partitions one of which holds all my software installation programs. These can be found in sub folders for audio, browsers and graphics for example. In the browsers folder I have a folder named Application Data. this has two sub folders named local and roaming. Each of those sub folders have two sub folders one for Opera, the other Firefox. Whenever I'm about to a re-installation of Widows, I'll go into the application folder on the C: drive and copy the Opera and Firefox folders and paste them to their respective folders on the portable disc drive. After completion of the Windows re-installation, I'll begin re-installing my programs. Once the browsers are installed, I'll do the reverse by copying the aforementioned folders from the portable to the C: drive. So that when I open Opera or Firefox for the first time, they are exactly how they were before I did the re-installation of Windows. The thing I've found is, if I save the data from say Opera 49 it is incompatible with Opera 37 for some reason. Sounds like you are a dedicated Opera user! You have a backup plan that works. Good for you. Sorry I can not think of anything else. Before you do another re-install of windows, make sure your hardware is in good shape. Especially three areas of concern: 1.) Power supply stability. Once in awhile a power supply is flaky and can introduce permanent errors into the system. This is rare, but has been DOCUMENTED by others. A LABORATORY test jig is more costly than a new power supply, so the pascal things is to have a spare power supply on hand. 2.) Memory failures. These are hard to detect unless you use one of the extensive test programs. Windows memory diagnostic test 3.) Hard drive failures and very hard to discover unless you use the tools recommended by the OEM. Segregate has tools that will also work on other brands. Se agate Drive Test Tools I hope this is of some help. Thanks for all your help. I've been using Opera since version 6. I'll check out Windows memory diagnostic test programs. The hard drive's fairly new, bought it a month ago. Thanks again. Quote from: Anthony-Richard on February 04, 2019, 02:24:51 PM Thanks for all your help.Good ti know. Yest hard drive failure is now as predictable as one might think. Any I brand new hard drive has a statistical failure rte above 0 %. and a hard drive that has worked for ten years has a failure rate below 100 %. You just have to test them from time to time. I have one used drive that clocked 5000 hoers and it tests good. But I have 'refreshed 'the drive many times. Hope you find a solution. |

Solve : Firefox - Forgot Password to website --- Here is how I found my password? |
Answer» Normally I am pretty good at writing down my passwords for web sites that I register with. Well one of the websites has an issue with the captcha not working because its out of date as the error message states and I found this when trying to reset my password that I forgot. if you don't want to use one of the free online OCR sites (and I wouldn't use it with passwords!) Yeah I only use OFFLINE only tools for sensitive stuff. The print screen I did to get a screenshot WORKED ok for what i needed. Its saved as a JPG on my system locally and not replicated to cloud storage or anything like that. Additionally i NEVER store passwords in the browser for anything sensitive so whenever I want to buy something online I have to look in my small paper booklet at what complex password I used and security questions if needed that the answer has nothing to do in relation to the question as well as not in a dictionary. For banking and other super sensitive stuff I have a dedicated laptop that I only boot up to get security updates and to do online banking once a month. No software gets added to it and no games run on it etc. I am very low risk for getting hit with any keyloggers etc, but I just like being as careful as I can without doing without online banking as the safest. In addition to this I perform auditing of the computers in my home to make sure that there are none that are listening to packets and transferring local network traffic outbound through a system compromisation of my daughter or wifes system with the nasty packet beacon on it to outbound hacker as a monkey in the middle attack etc.My bank made me install IBM Trusteer Rapport as a condition of using their online banking service, and say they may decline claims in cases where it was not installed. |

Solve : Question about Chrome/Microsoft? |
Answer» I MADE a change on my PC (windows 10) which changed more things than I expected. Anyway, I opened Chrome back up and there was a message from Microsoft saying they had found some trojan/worm (plural) and that it had caused 28.1% damage. I've never seen Microsoft send a message like this before and was apprehensive about running the cleaner they suggested. I'm going to be busy TODAY but thought I'd throw this out there to see what I should do to get this rolling.Microsoft did NOT send that notification to you, nor do they RECOMMEND software other than their own (Defender). Thanks, that's what I thought as well. I uninstalled chrome before I posted here, REINSTALLED it and the same thing appeared. I was thinking that it would cure it but it didn't, QUITE a puzzling thing.Yer infected...update and run all your protection apps...I uninstalled Chrome, ran my anti-virus and malware, downloaded Chrome and installed it again and everything seems alright now. Anything else I need to run? Malwarebytes found several things and I have real-time McAfee. |

Solve : Getting Browser Working on Old Computer? |

Answer» I have a Dell DU7670 running on Windows XP 2002 that I'm trying to get on the internet. I was GOING to use IE in order to DOWNLOAD Chrome, but IE is displaying the "cannot display the webpage" error. I used the diagnostic and it said there was a problem with the Winsock provider catalog, and it could be reset to the default configuration. I said yes to this and the computer restarted and when I tried IE again I got the same error and the same diagnostic. When I try to run ipconfig the box pops up for a SECOND and then disappears. Can anyone help me, please? Thanks!Which version of Windows XP do you have? Thanks! Do you know how I get get it on there without internet access?Use a computer that has internet access to download the installer to a USB thumb drive, then plug the thumb drive into the XP machine and run the installer.Except many XP machines lacked USB support...DU7670 is a Dimension 4700, so it has USB Ports.Thanx for the heads up... Quote from: patio on April 10, 2019, 07:47:56 AM Except many XP machines lacked USB support...In my experience, by the time XP came around, USB was pretty commonplace.
