Solve : IE6.0 hangs up when loading web pages?

Answer»

I bought a new laptop IWindows XP SP2) and keep having problems LOADING web sites.  Problem is intermittent.  Can usually TYPE address in toolbar and it will LOAD.  If I click  on a link it usually hangs up and fails to load. What do you mean by it "hangs up"?

[glb]Flame[/glb]The page begins to load (i.e. GETS to about 2 green bars on the bottom of the screen) but NEVER progresses any further.  After I cancel the page load, I can go back to the previous page but usually can't get to any new pages.

Solve : Problem with IE 6.0?

Answer»

Hello.

Recently I have had quite a problem with my computer, but mainly IE. I have tried programs such as spybot Search and Destroy, Ad-Aware SE professional with Ad-watch SE professional, peerguardian, window washer, eTrust PestPatrol, browser HIJACK recover(BHR),Spy Sweeper, SpywareGuard, XoftSpy, HijackThis, CWShredder, and registry Mechanic.

All of these and my homepage is still being  turned back to http://213.159.117.134/index.php and each time I bring up IE I get a virus warning from my copy of Avast anti-virus home edition. It does the same when open MSN explorer. And earlier today it wouldn't let me get on either my yahoo or hotmail email accounts, it would redirect me to some other site. Also note I am running Stompsoft firewall x-treme.

Along with all those my searchbars (yahoo, aim, etc.) have been removed.

I am running Windows XP home and this is the first time something like this has happened to me and has been going on for a few days now.

Any help would be very great!!Matt Smith........Ok .....Does your anti virus identify the virus for you ? you may have two issues here .....a hijacker as well as a virus .......
So let's try ......Using another pc ......D/L Stinger ...get it here ..... http://vil.nai.com/vil/stinger/  save it on a floppy disk and run it from your machine .....( make sure your off -line ( disconnect from internet )  Delete anything it finds ......
Now go into your Internet Options and change your homepage back to whatever you want .........now reboot.  Reconnect to the internet and SEE if your homepage is still ok .....if it isnt , and your not getting the the virus warning ....run hijackthis and post the log file here so we can look at it .......because if you ran it before you may have missed some entries.

dl65 alright heres the log from hijackthis after I ran the stinger.

I will download it and run it...then run hijack this again and then post the log.Alright..heres the new log file....Microsoft Anti-spyware worked far better this time around than before I would say. And yes..the first log file was all of what it showed me on the .txt file as is this one here.

Matt Smith....Wow ....are you sure this is the log file from the same pc ? What happened to the 04 entries that we hadn't marked for removal ?    More important is your home page staying as you have it set ?
did Antispyware find much ?
Are you able to get to your hotmail account now ?
let us know

dl65
Matt Smith......I just noticed you do not have SP2 installed .........It would be a good idea to have it installed as it plugs up some of the security holes in IE6 and the is a built in firewall which you may turn off if you wish .

dl65  Yes, that is from the same pc. I ran the Microsoft anti-spyware program and ran the hijackthis program right after I was done and thats what it gave me. And no I don't have SP2 on because I have had it 2 different times and each time it makes my computers performance drop. Also when I last posted my pc was a bit better...most of the problems were gone....but now they are back again. Only this time when I open IE the address is pointed to a location on my computer it looks like. RES://C:\WINDOWS\System32\shdoclc.dll/navcancl.htm It BRINGS up a different page each time I bring up IE...but each say either "Your search page" or "search the web" with "about:blank-" as the page name...this is new within the past day or so.

I can always run a system image restore again but I have done this a few times before I posted here and its getting sort of old. Should I do that or continue to try and fix the issue?

Solve : Internet Explorer 6 Major Problem!!!!!?

Answer»

Hi

My PROBLEM is when I open INTERNET Explorer 6 it automatically goes to a search Engine page and these "pop up windows" come up TELLING me I GOT Spyware software on my computer - I have tried uninstalling Internet Explorer and then re-installing but this has not helped. Does anyone know why this search Engine comes up and does not allow me to go on any website - not even google or yahoo. or hotmaill.

I have tried going on the "Internet Explorer Update" website (for security patches or a solution) but it says that it only works in Internet Exploere - which I cannot go on as Internet Explorer 6 is preventing me from going on any websites

Thank youThe funny thing is... YOU DO HAVE SPYWARE! Try downloading Microsoft AntiSpyware off of http://www.microsoft.com ... Keep in touch..

[glb]Flame[/glb]I tried to install Windows Spyware as you suggested but it only works for Windows XP and 2000 - I am on Windows ME.

I have DECIDED to block all cookies in Internet Explorer Settings. - To Add to that i decided to override cookies with "propmt for cookies" - this has identified which cookies are trying to get on my system and causing the problem - However I have listed them in my restricted websites but this has not helped - The cookie that was trying to get in was "insightexpressai.com" -  another cookie was "http://vv6.s13.tempx.cc - Has anyone had any problems with these sort of cookies before and what have you done to resolve this?If you are able to get to this site, run the online spyware scan. It gets the majority of these pests.

Solve : A pop-up ad stole my taskbar!!?

Answer»

Hope I've put this question in the right section:

I wonder if you guys can help a computer novice using Windows XP and Internet Explorer. Yesterday, while BROWSING a well-known website, a pop-up ad breached my computer's DEFENCES (it nabs most of these things, but not all), and the taskbar vanished at the bottom of the screen. As the ad was located behind my Internet page, I minimized the page and closed the ad - but it TOOK the taskbar with it. Or, the taskbar was somehow 'hidden' and proved irretrievable. I couldn't restore the Internet page, go to 'Start', or do anything.

I went into the 'Help' section via the recycle bin on my desktop, where I was advised to click at the bottom of the screen where the taskbar usually sits, but that made no difference at all. I was eventually forced to switch off the entire computer by pulling the plug - the one thing we're constantly told NOT TO DO AT ANY TIME. In this case, being unable to extricate myself from this little predicament, I felt like I had no other choice.

I'm concerned I'll be forced to do the same thing if this happens again, and I wonder if anyone ELSE has had this annoying problem? Is there a solution if a pop-up ad 'steals' your taskbar? All help gratefully received.   First, did the taskbar ever come back? Second, which version of Windows are you using? Third, try using Microsoft Service Pack 2 if you have the right operating system... It helps prevent things like that...

[glb]Flame[/glb][[where I was advised to click at the bottom of the screen where the taskbar usually sits]]

When your pointer was at the bottom of the screen, did it turn into a double-headed arrow? If it does, you need to >click-hold-drag< it up a bit.

By chance do you have your monitor display settings stretched to far vertically?

My 2½¢

Taskbar Repair Tool Plus!
First, did the taskbar ever come back?

Yes, but only after I'd restarted my computer.

When your pointer was at the bottom of the screen, did it turn into a double-headed arrow? If it does, you need to >click-hold-drag< it up a bit.

No, the pointer didn't CHANGE shape at all. There was no response, no matter what I tried to do.

By chance do you have your monitor display settings stretched to far vertically?

I thought of that, but I've had the computer a while and there's been no problems with screen shape.

Frankly, I'm stumped. The same thing happened again earlier today, but this time I shrank the Internet page to half its size, located the ad and  zapped it. The taskbar returned instantly. I'm wondering if I might have accidentally pressed the 'minimize' button on that earlier ad, sending it into the absent taskbar, rather than pressing the 'close' button, which might explain why I couldn't restore the tasbar. I'm just going to have to be more careful about what I click in future...

Many thanks for your suggestions, guys. Much appreciated!

Solve : Corrupted Favorites Folder??

Answer»

Some how my Favorites Folder has gotten corrupted. I cannot find the folder in the default directory.  When I click on favorites in IExplorer 6 SP2 there's nothing listed except Add or Organize.  When I try to add to the favorites - nothing happens, when I try to organize - nothing shows up, and when I try to create a folder under organize - I get an error message that SAYS "Unspecified Error - Error: 306". I can't even import a backup.htm file.  What's Happened??  HELP!!
Do you have virus protection? Spyware protection? Have you been keeping up with your Windows Updates?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I'm running McAfee VirusScan ENTERPRISE 7.1.0.  I use AdAware and SpyBot to routinely clean my HARD drive from spyware, etc...I also have all the current updates.  (I tend to tweak my pc and probably screwed something up myself....)  Any ideas?maryj459........If your using Win xp or Xp pro ......AND......
If your certain you don't have any virus infestations ........use your system restore and set the restore back to just before your favourites file BECAME corrupt .  What is it you find necessary to tweak ?

Tried that...didn't work.  Checked my registry to make sure everything was correct in HKCU/Software/Microsoft/Windows/Explorer/User Shell Folders...it was....

Also tried to reinstall Internet Explorer, not sure if I did it right, but it didn't work either....aaargh!

Any other ideas? This might be it:
http://www.kellys-korner-xp.com/xp_favorites.htmI'm usig a networked version of McAfee and don't see this option.  I"m not sure this is it because I'm the only one on the network with this problem, but I'll check.

I wouldn't mind rebuilding my favorites folder from scratch, but this problem won't let me create new folders or import a backup while in IExplorer.  When I try to go directly to my user directory and either create a new file called favorites, or cut and past from another source, I get an error message that tells me a file with this name (Favorites) already exists, but I can't see it!  I've got all my hidden folders viewable, too!   What now?

I ALSO tried opening a separate folder on my desktop, cutting and pasting all the pics into that folder, but Kodak wouldn't let me RENAME its original file in the C drive.
If you think of anything else, let me know.
Thanx!

Solve : Hide IP Address??

Answer»

Is it possible to hide your ip address.  If so howA firewall.... ALSO, what are you trying to hide your IP from?

[glb]Flame[/glb]Ken....You can run but you can't hide

The above measures have now MADE you totally anonymous, right? Well, yes and no. They would certainly make it difficult for anyone to identify you personally but it can be done. If you have engaged in illegal or malicious activity and it has come to the attention of the authorities then that activity can be traced to your ISP account. A common feature of sites everywhere is logging. If you are reading this page then there is already an entry in the site logs here showing that a particular IP address came to this site at a particular time and accessed this page. The log will also show every image, page, and program accessed during the visit. That IP address can be traced to a particular ISP or proxy service. Normally the trail would stop cold at that point because these entities do not release any personally identifiable information in accordance with their established PRIVACY policies. This means that I know that someone visited but really can't determine who. If the activity was illegal, however, site logs can be subpoenaed by a court of law all the way back through the chain and your ISP account can be positively identified as the SOURCE.

Hope this answers your question

dl65
Thanx for the replies guys.  Oh i'm not doing anything illegal or anything of that sort.  LoL so don't worry about it.Well, in that CASE, you sound safe to me... Just as long as you have antivirus protection and a firewall, then you should be safe against most attacks...

Using IE 6.0.  When I click on Favorites some of them are hidden and do not appear until I click on the >> at the bottom.  I don't WANT any hidden, but the gremlins in the MACHINE decide at random which to hide.  From one session to the next, the number of hidden favorites is different.

Very grateful for some HELP here.

Solve : Unable to surf internet?

Answer»

In normal circumstances after entering the internet address and HIT enter - the
webpage would be displayed.

Recently, after entering the internet address and hit enter - the
webpage is not displayed. Using VALID numeric ADDRESSES like for example only -165. 74. 21.984 does not display the webpage.

Have checked the internet connection and it is connected. Did a ping at the c prompt and it also works. (Using broadband prolink 9000w wireless and the 2nd pc have no problems, total pc(s) is 2).

Wondering what is wrong with the internet explorer and not displaying the webpage.

Thanks.
Are you sure you are free of malware? How so? WHat are you using?

What firewall, if any, is running?

How long has this been happening and what events preceeded this?Hu, why not use the website's domain name, like the VAST majority of PEOPLE do, instead of using a numeric address?  Do you actually take time to look up the numeric address for a website and then use it?Agree with Mark.  Sounds like a firewall problem, if you can still ping. The original poster is AWOL. Solve : "POPUPS" ~ Please help -?

Answer»

I don't know how it started, but, in my taskbar a 'yellow triangle' w/an exclamation mark in it and keeps keeps blinking and a note appears on the screen saying, "SYSTEM ALERT - POPUPS - YOUR COMPUTER IS INFECTED WITH 'SPYWARE, ETC' -
AND I KEEP GETTING POPUPS FOR 'PEST TRAP', ADWAREBAZOOKAINSTALLER.EXE. AND SPYWARE KILLER.
IT ALSO SAYS THAT I AM INFECTED WITH PUPER.DLL - POPUPS "CHPE ver 4.12_23 .
I ran my AdWare, Adware Filter, andMcAfee Security Center -
they SAY the notice I am getting is a false alert - and it will not let me delete Puper.dll from the computer - it driving me nuts with this constant popup saying my computer is infected, slowed down (which it is not) -
How can I stop this - PLEASE, PLEASE email me at [email PROTECTED] -
I would appreciate it you can tell me how to stop that 'yellow triangle with it conuous 'virus alerts' and popups -
Thank you very much for your time, DanI hope that this was a type and you are using Ad Aware and not Adware. You also will need a few other things to get rid of this.

Spybot is a good place to start, along with Ad Aware. But since you are already infected, you should DOWNLOAD and run Ewido (google for it) and then Hijack This and zip up your log file and attach it here for the resident experts to analyze.

Ewido should be run in safe mode with system restore OFF.I have:  Ad-Aware SE Personal - - Adware Filter-Stop Spyware - -
and McAfee Security Center.
I ran all 3 (I do this frequently) and it says my system is clean and the notices are 'false alerts'.
This triangle also hassles me with many kinds of popups, I never had a popup problem before this 'triangle' appeared in my taskbar
The whole things is, this triangle encourages me to click on it to purchase Pest Trap, Adware Bazooka Installer - and stuck me with 'puper.dll' that my computer will not allow  me delete - - it all seems to be derived from Internet Explorer - - I use Netscape all the time and never have problems.
Other than this continuous nuisance, my computer runs perfect.
If I can get rid of that yellow triangle, my problem is solved.
Thank you for your time,
DanFollow the suggestions above and post back.

You may want to look at this list of adware perpetrators and read about Adware Filter. I wouldn't recommend keeping that!

Should I just recopy explorer.exe from the Windows disk or is there something in the registry to changeback or remove?

Solve : Why does dial-up box keep appearing??

Answer»

Hey everyone,
FIRST time poster, apologies for my lack of technical input.
I live in a student house and we run the internet (broadband) through a LAN, and up until a few days ago it was working fine.
All of a sudden, despite having perfect connection, the dial-up box keeps popping up every time I click on a new web page in i-explorer. It then proceeds not to load the new page until I close thew dial up, when another box comes up SAYING 'connect' or 'work offline'. If i click 'connect', it loads the page perfectly.
It's never done this before, I dont understand why it would START now.
Is it a problem with IE or is it adware? I run ad-aware personal edition, have a zone alarm firewall and dont tend to frequent dodgy sites, all produce nothing.
Sorry if this is the wrong place to post.
Gosh that was long-winded.

CHeers,
Dave.Well, you have a firewall, but what about an antivirus program?

[glb]Flame[/glb]I use AVG antivirus free edition. Everything seems clean, except sometimes ad-aware comes up with several critical objects after the occasional restart. Would a HIJACK this log help?
Thanks again.
Dave.Well.... You can submit to us your hijack log if you want to... I'm not sure that it would help much though... Also, did you have software installed on your computer at one point, that might be trying to dial out? (AOL, etc.)

[glb]Flame[/glb]Start IE, click Tools, then the Connections TAB. Tick the "Never Dial  A Connection" box, Apply, then OK.

Like Flame said, if this just happened out of the blue, scan for  viruses and adware.

Hope this helps.  Thank you everyone, it's fixed now.

Keep up the sterling work.

Dave.

Hi.  I did everything you advised and I still can't access internal http links, only get a blank page.  Same with the online games. Still says I don't have enough memory, along with a blank page.   I have'nt had IE shut down though. That's a plus.  I D/L and ran the Antispyware.  There is a place there where it shows Windows Host Files.  Most of it appears to be spyware and adware (doubleclick.com, valueclick.com) and others I'm not sure what they are.  Is it safe to permanently ERASE these?  Thanks for all your help.  I know it is time consuming.  If you have any other suggestions, I'm willing to try.

Solve : Internet stops working, CPU spikes?

Answer»

I have had this problem for 2 or 3 months. About 6 months ago I reformatted my computer and installed Windows XP (used to have ME). I am still running Service Pack 1. I also put in a wireless antenna in the back and was able to get great internet access using NETGEAR products. A few months later I installed Norton Antivirus 2005, and around the same time I added this thing with USB 2 and Firewire hubs. This caused the wireless internet to stop working. There is this icon in the system tray that tells me how much signal I have and it said there was no signal, though all the other computers in my house had signal. I disabled the firewire ports and it worked fine after that (until this new problem). I have a Gateway that is almost 4 years old with 624 RAM (i added some a while back) and 1.2GHz with an AMD Athlon Processor. I don't know what info is useful so I will try to give a lot.

HERE is my newest problem:

About 2 months after my last change to the computer I started having this problem. Whenever I go online, after a while the internet stops working. Sometimes it happens after only being online for a minute, sometimes it takes half an HOUR, sometimes it never happens before I turn off the computer again. But lately it has gotten worse, and I have to restart all the time. Restarting the computer brings the internet back, though for an unknown amount of time. Unlike before when my wireless signal would go out, this internet problem is more sneaky. The wireless signal strenght remains strong (Excellent it says) but it stops SENDING and recieving bytes (i can see this when i double click on the 2 compters in the system tray).

Which gets me to another odd thing, which is that sometimes when I restart, instead of the internet fixing itself, a Found New Hardware Wizard opens up and it tells me that I have a new Network Controller (the one that I installed months ago!) I hit cancel and restart again and then the internet is back to normal, for a while. I installed Microsoft AntiSpyware but it didn't find spyware.

Also, often when I restart not all of the usual icons appear in the system tray. Sometimes the Norton one is there, sometimes it’s disabled, sometimes it’s gone. Sometimes the spyware icon is there, sometimes not. Sometimes the wireless signal strength icon is gone, even when the internet is working.

Last week my computer randomly restarted all by itself while I was using it. I read some stuff online and I think this is because my power supply is overworked and old, so I’ve been careful not to keep the computer on for too long at a time, and recently it hasn’t restarted suddenly.

Something else that happens when my internet stops working is that just before, and then after, the mouse freezes in a choppy way. It will freeze for a few seconds and then move again, like the computer is processing too much at once. I check the CPU usage and sure enough there are random spikes to 100% or at least 65% every 10 seconds or so. Sometimes this gets worse and worse until I have to manually turn off the computer because I can’t get the mouse to move to the restart button. I check the processes and it doesn’t look like anything is taking up more than one or two CPUs at a time.

I’m sorry this is so long but I am REALLY at a loss! Please help! Any thoughts at all will be appreciated. This is not an answer, but I have had a similar problem. I'm running XP pro sp2. Mine screen locks up. I still have mouse control and can usually go to start up to restart. Most of the time the computer freezes, then after several seconds the screen blanks out and comes back on then it seems to work for a while, but usually continues to get worse. For you internet problem, double click your internet icon in the lower right hand corner click propteries click the wirless networks tab then in the top there should be box that says let windows configure my wireles settings or something like that....click that box to the opposite of whatever it is then restart, check if that fixes the internet.

About your mouse. Control Panel-Mouse-Hardware tab-Drivers update your drivers.

You'll also want to update to service pack 2 probably before you do anything else because it will reset a lot of options, such as the first one.

You can ALWAYS try a reformat but I don't know how much good that would do considering that you already did that to install XP, but you never know.run diagnostics>>http://www.active-hardware.com/english/misc/sandra.html

also check for trojans /keyloggers/malware etc.......run spysweeper..........disable remote.......access........encypt wireless.......thats a must...scanners..and finally.....process of elimation..........start from the server...and workbackwards......in other worlds...start from scratch........disabled...pcs attach to the usb hub network........> svhost  exe is fav..?check it What does  the netgear firewall detect.........freedom ..

Solve : maximize?

Answer» When I open my IE it is a small window.  I want to be able to open it to full size at all times.  How do I change this??  Please help, I am puzzled and confused.....The DEFAULT behavior is to open in the size of the last IE window you OPENED.

So if it opens in a smaller window, maximize that window, the close it.  The next time you open it, it should open maximized.

Now keep in mind that clicking links inside web pages may open ADDITIONAL IE windows.  It is not UNCOMMON for these windows to be opened less than maximized as dictated by the calling web page. (This could become you "last window opened" setting.)  So you may have to keep setting things back.

Answer»

First Background. Clean install after using DBAN. I GET the message "Opening PAGE" but nothing evercomes up. Then I get page can not be displayed. I can ping the sites but I can not open them.
I have tried Firefox also. Just will not open any pages.I have a Linksys BEFSX41 4 port router. My ADSL connection uses PPPOE but using the router elliminates the need to install the software.
I feel this is a router setting issue but I have tried everything there.I think that you should STILL install the software... What happens is... Without drivers, things don't work RIGHT...

We also have a laptop with wireless connection.  The laptop is connected to what my parents say, "a big company network." We have SUSPICIONS that it might be taking up lots of internet resources when used.
Whenever the laptop is turned on and used, the other three computers constantly disconnect/connect/disconnect/connect in RAPID succession.maybe you are being scannned..........have you CHECKED for this.......wiffy.....download spysweeper from webroot .com..and maybe a keylogger scan to!.......disconnected from the net.......and disable system RESTORE.........to scan  properly.........your event/firewall logs may tell you more.......check it...

I want to download some files from a Russian site but it BLOCKS any IP's outside Russia and Ukrania.

I've read a little about PROXIES and I think I can make the server "think" I'm in Russia.

Do you know any open Russian proxy SERVERS which I can use? Or a program or site to find them?

Thank you for your ATTENTION. Maybe this site will be of use:

Solve : Back Button does not work?

Answer»

On a PARTICULAR website that I view (used boats for sale) when I look at a selected item from the list the BACK button no longer works to get me back to my list.  Instead it gives a page cannot be found page.  Back again from that gets me back to the search page where I have to re-enter search criteria.  This type of thing works on other sites and the TROUBLE site works on other computers.  I must have done something to my browser settings but don't know what.

Can anyone help?  Did I EXPLAIN this RIGHT?Do you have antivirus and antispyware protection?

[glb]Flame[/glb][[when I look at a selected item from the list the back button no longer works to get me back to my list. ]]

When you select a item to look at, does it open a new/second page? Just hit the red X to close it and return you to the original list on the first page.

dl65  Thanks very much for your reply.

I have done as you said, and it has certainly helped. But still occasionally, another window opens with that old hijack url on it. It rarely happens, but it worries me that it is still there.

I am just running all the spyware stuff again to see if that helps, what do you think?

With regards to SP2, I did download it, but my broadband modem stopped working properly, so my provider advised me to do a system RESTORE, and it worked ok again. I think I might try it again though... I would really like SP2 on there.

Thanks again for your help!info>>http://www.theeldergeek.com/slipstreamed_xpsp2_cd.htm

Solve : Cannot open more than one window in I.E.?

Answer»

[size=16]I just recently DEVELOPED a problem with my Internet Explorer that is beyond my ability to find a solution to !!!

The problem is this :  Whenever I try to open another window in Internet Explorer, it closes the original window and replaces it with the new one. It doesn't open it over the first one, but a new page opens and then the original page closes.

Does anyone anywhere have any idea what's causing this, or how to fix it [/size]Have you TRIED setting the Internet settings to default?   Thanx for the suggestion RAPTOR, but unfortunately I have and still no change. Starting to get VERY frustrated with my PC   !!!Not trying to sound like an advert or anything, I can't think of any solutions for your problem EXCEPT to either-

- reinstall IE
- Get another browser; Iuse Mozilla's Firefox quite a lot, though I still use IE more.I recommend Mozilla Firefox.http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/tips/doug92.mspx >http://www.theeldergeek.com/repair_reinstall_ie_and_oe_6.htm  no info given on operating sytem...Hello, try: Right click on I.E. ,click properties, click on advanced tab, find reuse windows for launching short cuts, and make sure it is unchecked, click apply (if you change setting) then ok. good luckThanks, Sparkyrhett ! I had the same problem, its a simple fix.Hey i have had the same problem,,where ie cant open more than 1 window at a time..have done what EVERBODY has advised, nothing has worked
any other suggestions
wanda, what version of internet explorer do you have. my last post seems to work on ie6 only. it does not seem to work on ie5. if you do not have ie 6, up grade to it and you should be fine, making sure to follow my last post suggestions. or, you can try clicking on "file" (once your browser is open) then "new" then "window". that will cause a dup. window to appear. then go to your next web page, your prev page will "minimize", showing your new page. you can do this as many time as you want. try this and good luckHey,,taken awhile,,
i do have IE6
Have also unchecked the box that says"to reuse windows for launching shortcuts"
My problem still exists

Flame,
I'm a little scared when it comes to messing around with my registry. I have scanned the registry for errors, getting into regedit and could not find anything out of the ordinary. This was done using info from an item I got from a search from symanatec. I only have explorer running on startup but there are many programs on my startup page not checked.

Thanks,
rebeleyeWhen you say that they are not checked, that means that they are NOT EXECUTING at startup... right? Becuase on my registry cleaner, not being checked means that it IS running... Just checking...

Flame,

You are right in your assumption. They are not executing at startup, only explorer opens on startup.

Later, gone for the night-work at 3:00 am tomorrow.

Keep thinking!

Thanks,

rebeleye1 Ok i had this problem and the only way i found to fix this was to go into control panel Add/Remove programs. Add Remove Windows Components.

2 Take the tick out of internet explorer, Reboot your Computer. This will UNINSTALL it Temporarily.

Once the computer has rebooted do the same thing as in section1 but put the tick back in internet explorer and reboot again. This will have now reinstalled Internet explorer.

Well this works on windows xp and 2000 and hopfully 98 you see in xp you get the choice in window components to install and uninstall internet explorer. if not is there anyway you can download internet explorer and then uninstall the old one and replace it with the one you downloaded. Iike i said i had this problem and found no other way other then this to stop it. Good Luck let us no how you went on.
