Solve : some of my favorite sites don't recognize me using firefox browser?

Answer»

I recently started using FF browser instead of IE. Some SITES that require a user id and password, don't recognize me, using FF,but, they do recognize me using IE. Why does the browser make any difference?

If the site places a cookie in your computer, so they know who you are, isn't the cookie present, no matter what browser you USE? thanks Quote from: jdl on August 04, 2008, 12:13:32 PM

If the site places a cookie in your computer, so they know who you are, isn't the cookie present, no matter what browser you use? thanks
Yes, the cookie is present, but the cookie is only available to the browser that stored it. IE and FF store cookies in different locations so you'll need to access the sites in FF and log in, then you should be set. Thanks for the reply. On some sites, I can use my user id and password, they will recognize me, doesn't matter if I use FF or IE. On the site I'm having trouble with, even using the proper id and password, the site doesn't recognize me using FF.

I guess I could re-register on the site using FF, see if that works?

I can switch back and forth between IE and FF, no big deal. thanksTwo things: a) within FF: Tools>Options>Privacy, make sure that "Accept Cookies" is checked, b) Tools>Options>Security, select "Remember Passwords." Quote from: jdl on August 04, 2008, 03:24:27 PM
I guess I could re-register on the site using FF, see if that works?

You dont have to go to that much trouble.
Just go to the login page, and enter your username and password. A popup should COME up, asking you if Firefox should remember the password. Just click remember. Thanks everybody, I checked the cookie page, all the boxes are checked for ALLOWING cookies. I checked the cookie list, the name of the site, I'm having problems with, is listed there.

I've tried my user name and password, several times, also checked the (remember me) box. After using that box, my user id and password will show, when I go to the site, but, I still can't log-in. It keeps telling me to register.

Everything works fine using IE on that site. I guess I can switch back and forth between IE and FF, or register again using FF browser. I'm not even sure that will work, haven't tried it, yet.

There might be some advantages to having two different ids on the same web site. I never thought of that, funny.Try to clear the FF cookie from that website and then go to the site again. Quote from: drmsucks on August 05, 2008, 09:53:09 AM
Try to clear the FF cookie from that website and then go to the site again.

I tried your suggestion, It worked. I figured if I deleted the cookies for that site, they would have no way of recognizing me. After deleting the cookies and filling in the user id and password, it worked fine. thanks

Glad that you're back in business with FF!

Solve : Google problem?

Answer»

hi, I'm using windows 7 and internet explorer.I have always been using GOOGLE as my homepage but recently something called msn.com just came up and I don't know how to go back to Google. This might have happened because you had installed a new software which had set msn.com as the home page. To REVERT to Google -
Go to the 'wrench' or the 'three LINES' button on the top RIGHT corner of your browser. Click on settings from the drop down menu and and under 'Appearance' you might see that your homepage is msn.com (under the show home button). Click on change besides it and set the home page to google

Solve : ISP change?

Answer»

I have been with Comcast for CLOSE to 7 years now and am considering a change to ANOTHER ISP.  My concern is all the sites such as banking, e-bay etc that have my current e-mail stored. Not to mention my contact list. I'm sure that in 7 years, there is an easier way to save all that information. I suppose that once switched over, I can contact each individual company and change my e-mail info. If someone knows an easier way, I'd surely appreciate it.

Thanks in advance...........What I would do myself would be to sign up for an email account independent of your ISP such as Gmail.  Then, before you CANCEL Comcast, start changing your email address on all of your online accounts.  Therefore you can then cancel Comcast and set up your new ISP after all the email stuff has been moved over.

It is generally better to use a separate email account like Gmail anyway for this exact reason, if you change ISP again in the future you will not need to change your email address again as it is COMPLETELY separate.Great idea. I think I have an EXTERNAL e-mail account. It may even be g-mail. Either way, I'll set up a new one.

Thank You.............

Solve : IE10 & IE 11 problems with locking up?

Answer»

I have had a problem that goes back to IE 10 after it was installed my computer fell over, so I contacted Microsoft who SUPPLIED me with a link to a removal program.

I then REVERTED back to IE9, and have been happy for a while.

Recently I have been getting messages etc "your browser is out of date" and various others all along the same line.

So Installed IE11 and yes you guessed it, - - - it fell over again.

Each time the computer has fallen over I have removed the update i.e. IE10 and then used "system restore"

So IE10 , removal program and then "system restore"

Next IE11 just system restore

I am running Windows 7 Home Premium and IE9.

I must add periodically when IE9 is open I get the "not responding" message.

Now if the IE9 (not responding), IE10 & IE11 problems are somewhow interlinked that would be interesting.

I did run the program to fix compatabilities issues, but nothing found
1) I deleted the duplicate thread. Please do not post the same QUESTION more than once.

2) What do you mean when you say your computer "fell over"? Do you keep knocking it off the desk?Sorry about the duplication, I was going to tell the mods about it but the phone went and I had to answer it.

The term "fell over" is a quick terminolgy for the computer locked up for that particular application.

i.e. If I had installed the XYS software and tried to run that particular program and the screen froze or I went into Task Manager and saw it said "not responding"etc. etc.

Then I would say it had fell over, go to the workshop get the big hammer and give the computer a well aimed TAP

You know what I mean

Quicker for me to say "it fell over"

RIGHT now I have put the big hammer back in the workshop, any ideas about my thread ?

Just while I think about it, I always build my own machines.

Solve : Website inactive but pages still up?

Answer» YEARS ago I had a portfolio on a website that hosts photos/resumes. A couple of years ago I somehow GOT access to the CREATORS e-mail address and wrote him that even though the site was closed, my portfolio was still up there and I have no way to log-in, delete the pages etc. He replied "that's impossible, the website is inactive".

I've been trying to delete it again recently and I haven't been able to find his e-mail (or anyone's for that matter). My portfolio is still visible, the SEARCH is still visible. Is there ANY way to have my page deleted, find a way to contact someone about this? At the very least, is there a way to push this website down in the search ENGINES somehow?

http://www.360flair.com/ (inactive)

I have sent a question under "contact us" but nothing....

Solve : Problem with openning saved webpages(.html files)?

Answer»

I can't open .html file in my browser, instead of this:

which is a SS of a saved webpage I want to open.

it shows this:

4 new tabs that have nothing on them. Each address bar in 4 tabs has in it only part of the address where the file I want to open is.

For example:
tab 1. C:\fskjfkjjfdsk\
2. sjkasjdkjkdsa\
3. kldsaklsda

and this is the whole address:
C:\fskjfkjjfdsk\sjkasjdkjkdsa\kldsaklsda

I can open the same file normally in Firefox and IE. This browser is called Iron. It's Chrome based. I've used it before, this very version and it worked normally.
And BTW, when I drag&drop the saved webpage into this browser it also opens normally like it should.
You want to save a copy of a web page so ;you can look at it without going on LINE. Is that right? Have you tried doping that with other browsers?
The browser you named is not in the top list of popular browsers.
Google Chrome
Mozilla Firefox
Safari
Opera
Internet Explorer
Maxthon
Netscape Browser
YouTube Browser
UC Browser
Avant
Of course there are many more browsers that work very well. But I did not find much about the one you named.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/SRWare_Iron
If you can reproduce the problem is a more common browser,  more users here would be able to help. As for me, I want to help, but I do not want to try YET another  browser.
I think I fixed it, not sure how, I installed new version of the browser, then messed with some .html extension settings in Folder Options>File Types and now it woRRks.
Thank you!Glad that CH was able t o help.
Sometimes it helps just to talk something out.

Even though you got it working, just wanted to state that you can also capture an entire website for offline viewing vs just the pages that you visit that get stored into the browsers offline cache. I used HTTrack in the past to make entire websites that do not have flash and dynamic html into offline viewable sites. I use to use this back when I was buying and selling collectables and was able to travel around with a PRICE listing of the market that was downloaded earlier that day, so when in question about whether something is a good deal or not, I could flip open my laptop and surf offline to the pricing info and do a look up, and then base my decision to buy it or not based on real market info. This was before all the wireless hot spots and portable online devices became available in which today you could probably do the same look up with live info on iPhone without the need for a laptop with offline website and access all information including those sites with flash and dynamic html content that Httrack do not capture very well.

Back in the day 10 years ago... this offline info gave me an advantage over other customers walking around at shows as well as over the sellers that either didnt know what they really had for its value or those who were trying to sell something by promoting verbally at how well it was and its worth who were like ex-car dealers turned collectable dealers were unable to sell their lines of garbage to me about what they state something is worth when I have actual market info which is what the current average fair market value it is.

I had a few dealers red faced when I was able to flip open my laptop and show them that THIS is what its worth, and its not worth what you are asking when some got into a heated discussion when I was telling them it was worth less and I am willing to only pay say $25 for this item that they are asking for $50 and its fair market value is $35 for example.

Dealers like this prey on those who walk in and are instantly sold on having to have something or instantly sold on those of whom they can convince the value is greater than that of what the people are buying it for of which it is not.

Solve : If you are using firefox favorite addon?

Answer»

I was wondering what addons do you USE on your Firefox web browsers and what is your favorite ones. I am currently using crawler toolbar with websecurity GUARD basically it is toolbar that when you install the websecurity guard as an addon to the toolbar it will automatically alert you when a website is trying to download adware, spyware, virus etc to your computer then it will give you the option to block the website so you cannot enter it and mess up your computer with the adware viruses or spware. Some of the websites will not be completely blocked but some will depending on how much bad stuff is on the website Here is a web shot of the blocker used on the crawler toolbar addon. I also have autopager addon and basically it will automatically load the NEXT page of text or pictures on most websites automatically you will not need to click on the 2 page or the 3 page it will load them, but I FOUND out that it works on a lot of websites like google yahoo search engines etc.  Some websites needs configurations. Those two are my favorite addons.

[Saving space, attachment deleted by admin]WOT (Web of Trust). It alerts you not on security, but child safety and others as well. Also allows you to rate sites. i use mainly stumble upon, and trashmail, stumble randomly sends you to a sight in your interests, and trashmail allows me to make fake email addresses so i can keep on getting world of WARCRAFT free trial...I also use tempomail (the same idea as trashmail). I use it so I can get PTZ on Lockerz.

Solve : Most used website operates 10X slower on my computer - brain exploding?

Answer»

Hi. A website I use all the time takes roughly 10 seconds page-to-page on my desktop, yet operates normally (1 to 2 seconds) on two laptops I have around. And, all other sites seem to operate in normal speed on my desktop. Any idea what can be making this one website (www.freetrialcity.com) load so slow and what I might do to FIX it?

THANKS.  RonTakes about 9+ seconds to load here...

This wouldn't be spam would it ? ?Nope, not spam at all. I'm just trying to figure out why this loads so slowly on one system, and not on others. And, to complicate matters, this seems to be the only slow loader on my desktop. I'm guessing something in the desktop is causing this. I'm discouraged that it takes 9+ seconds on your END...although that's better than the 30+ I'm experiencing.

Thanks,

RonJust for reference this is on a tier2 DSL connection...
Tried another machine...same results.Appreciate it. Is that for the initial home page load? What are you experiencing for page-to-page times?Haven't a CLUE...i ran out of patience.Cable...

Solve : Firefox and IE8 Take a long time to launch, like 10 minutes?

HI Gang,

I'm using Winxp sp3. Everything is fine EXCEPT it TAKES IE8 and Firefox 3.5 a LONG TIME to LAUNCH when I get up in the morning. During the day everything is fine but its that first launch in the morning that is the most time consuming.

Is this normal or is there anything I can do to fix it?

Solve : Firefox suport by Comcast?

Answer»

RANT ALERT

Since I started using Firefox, I almost never use IE.  Comcast is my ISP.  Every now and then my Comcast EMAIL goes down for a day or two.  I'm not a heavy email user so it's not a big deal but I finally called Comcast to find out why email was down and was TOLD that they don't support Firefox.  I switched to IE and logged into Comcast email without a problem.

It's IRRITATING for Comcast just to say it's not our problem.  Is anybody else having these PROBLEMS?Install ThunderBird and follow ComCast's info on setting it up and your issues will dissappear.I'll give it a try, thanks. Quote

They've been doing this forever, lazy bastards. It used to drive me nuts, but I don't even bother to call Comcast anymore.

Solve : Unable to open links in Firefox windows?

Answer»

I can open up Firfox and new TABS fine but if I click on a link WITHIN the page it doesn't open a new page/window/tab.

I Have Windows XP Pro version 5.1 service pack 3.

Firefox version is 3.5.3.

I also have Internet Explorer version 8 and Google Chrome version 3.0.195.27.

Before downloading Firefox when I clicked on a link in an email, (via Outlook), IE would open, but now Firefox does.  In IE everything seems to be working fine and I'm guessing I have some conflict of interest between the two softwares.

I can't find on the site an answer that has been alble to resolve this issue.

All help appreciated.1) In Firefox go to TOOLS - OPTIONS and uncheck "Always check to see if Firefox is default browser". Now open IE. It will tell you it is not the default browser and ask if you want it to be. Say yes. (Or go to Internet Options - Programs Tab - Default Web Browser option in the middle and check the BOX).

2) Back to Firefox options - click on TABS - at the top you'll see "Open links that open in a new window in" followed by a dropdown box. Make your choice. Thanks for the info which I followed to the letter.  Most things seem to be working however I still have an issue.

The site that I was looking at was www.paguk.com and then clicking on the link top right Pagstore.com. This opens to the Pagstore.com in the same window but when I click on the 'Enter' link nothing happens.  In IE it FOLLOWING the same route when I click on 'Enter' I got straight to the page I'm after.  Any ideas?I just tried the site with Firefox and have the same issue. Could just be the site isn't OPTIMIZED for Firefox. Many thanks, I'll see how other sites work out.

Solve : Cannot open links in IE7 pages.?

Answer»

I'm unable to download pages through links in my IE7 sites. Click the link, the window opens, the download starts, then STOPS, and the little yellow error icon appears in the lower left hand corner of the NEW page. This issue started on my companies' intranet portal-and just on a second link. I now have this issue with getting my links to download in every instance, including links in EMAILS. (It's interesting that I was able to open the links in this site.) I'm running Windows XP with Office Pro added, and using IE7. I cannot upgrade to IE8, because the software for my business isn't compatible. I'm thinking I should get rid of IE7, which would automatically get me back to IE6, BUT, there is NO UNINSTALL option for that software in Add/Remove programs. Just has the support info-and also says I haven't used it since Jan, 08! (Um, yesterday, dude!) OK, I read the topic here re: the person that couldn't open links in Firefox, but I couldn't follow that-sorry!
Can anyone tell me if I'm on the right path? If so, can I use Spuninst.exe to uninstall IE7? Should I?
I think I just confused myself.....have you tried a browser reset? (internet options advanced tab-click reset)
and is your java up to date?

Solve : Computer acting strangely lately - Help please?

Answer» HEY everyone,

Lately my computer has started acting very strangely and I am not sure why. The only browser I am able to open successfully is Safari. Internet Explorer and Mozilla Firefox do not open at all. In Safari, only certain websites work. When I try to open others, I simply get the message "Safari cannot find/connect to the server." The websites where this message is displayed are websites I previously had no difficulty opening. Generally speaking, the computer seems to operate at a "sluggish" speed. Even the websites that do work do not seem to load as quickly anymore.

I have tried deleting/uninstalling as many unused programs as POSSIBLE that may be clogging my disk space. I have anti-virus SOFTWARE installed and my virus scan runs regularly. I have tried re-starting my computer on several occasions. I have de-fragged my system, cleaned up disk space, and deleted temporary Internet files and browser history when I close my browser window. I am running Windows Vista on my machine.

Please, if anyone has any advice on how to fix this problem, I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks all,
RyanWelcome to CH,
Although your scans turned up no threats, you should go here ........Follow the directions, post the three required logs and Evilfantasy will READ them....Then you can eliminate malware  as a SOURCE of your problems and probably cure them.

Solve : IE8 & Firefox Being Blocked by Kaspersky 2010?

Answer»

Hey everyone!

Is anyone of you using Kaspersky 2010 Internet Security on XP SP2, running IE8 and Firefox Gecko/Firefox/3.5.3? Well I'm and I'm having some problem. When i open firefox i get a blank page and IE8 says page cannot be displayed.

After carefully following the troubleshooting steps on http://support.microsoft.com/kb/956196 i discovered that Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 is blocking these application, so i decided to stop all the service of Kaspersky, i stopped running it and both browsers are working just fine.

I just wanted to find out a way for kaspersky 2010 to allow these browsers WITHOUT blocking them, i tried and did not get anything.
Isn't there any exceptions tag in your antivirus program. If present then ADD those browsers in that. It'l allow them. I'm thinking that the anti virus will block the browers that whenever you are connecting to the internet any attack had been taking place into your system.... so it did.The forums at Kaspersky.com are great. They respond very quickly and they know their stuff.Yes it has the exceptions tag, i tried adding both browsers there, and it still blocking them.
But i will just as Allan suggested. I take a quick survey on kasp website.Go ahead........ ALWAYS the AUTHORS give the better solution.

Solve : Firefox - how to open new window?

Answer»

Hello,
In my previous version of Firefox I had an add-on, which would reproduce the page I am on - in a new window. It would also carry-over the history of the page.

Since I updated to the latest Firefox version, 3.5, I cannot find that add-on, altho I have searched their add-ons.

Do you have any tips? That ability was so useful, I cannot imagine why they would GET rid of it.

I found very helpful your tip to hold down shift when clicking on a link, in ORDER to open that link in a new window.

But that does not help with my above need, or if it does, I don't know how to USE it.

Thanks!

ellenI don't think it's an add on. Just right-click on the tab and select "duplicate tab" (Ctrl-Alt-T). However - if you want a GREAT add-on for tab management get Tab Mix Plus Quote

Just right-click on the tab and select "duplicate tab" (Ctrl-Alt-T).
Using Firefox 3.5.3 here and I see no such option.  But, I can right click on a tab and select Open in a New Window, which is what the OP wants to do.I believe, that option comes with TabMixPlus. Quote from: Broni on October 23, 2009, 11:42:22 PM

You may be right - it's always the first add-on I use so I don't know what the context menu would look like without it  . It IS a standard feature in IE 8 context menus though

Solve : Mozilla unblocks Microsoft add-ons?

Answer» MOZILLA has UNBLOCKED one of the two Microsoft-made add-ons that put FIREFOX users at risk from attack and will probably unblock the second in the next 48 hours, the company's head of engineering said today.

http://tinyurl.com/yg8zs4d I'd IMAGINE a lot of Firefox users have probably removed the two addons in question....I did.WinPatrol picked it RIGHT up 6 months ago when it was still hidden and i blocked it...

Solve : Firefox message "Connection interrupted"?

Answer»

Hello: I use XP with all the power packs; and the Firefox 3.0 browser. I've never had a problem with it. Today, though, when I want to use it I get this message: Connection interrupted The network link was interrupted while negotiating a connection. Please try again

I use an ADSL connection which has not been interrupted. Further, my IE works fine so there seems to be a problem with Firefox. How can I find the problem and deal with it?
Thanks
DrDhmmm...You don't have a router do you?OH, Blake, yes I do. I have a router for an external modem. And, that night, I had shut if off and on again. Could this kill the hard?
Do tell.

Dr. DDr.D, i don't believe it would kill the hard. There can be a few reasons for this problem. I have heard many people with these problems. Everyones CASE is different, so i'm GOING to lay out some instances and solutions

1.If you have zonealarm uninstall it. (Zonealarm and firefox 3 cause interference problems.)

2.Try disabling active web scanning components in your anti-virus program (I don't use firefox,so i don't know if it has its own anti-virus PROGRAMS or what.)

3.This one i have heard very good feedback from so try this first..
In firefox, type: "about:config" in the address bar
then, type in "ipv6" in the top filter bar
if the value = "false", right click and select "toggle".
the value now should change from "false" to "true".

4. Now, if number 3 didn't work, and the others failed then you can try RESETTING your router back to factory settings.

5.Also, if you have Peerguardian or peergaurdian 2 uninstall it.That messes with the connection with firefox.

Hope this HELPED.Give me feedback and let me know,

                                     Blake

DrD...
This issue has nothing to do with the drive dying...
Did you give your son the link to the Slave Drive Tutorial i posted for you in your other thread ? ?"patio" I didn't say it did either lol....Anyways
Try those first. Number 3 seemed to have great feedback.
Btw, Patio, you still haven't helped me with my problem

-.-I don't assist via PM's....sorry.Well, even before i sent u those 2 i wrote u on the post.
You didn't reply though.

Solve : secure...?

Answer»

Good Day to everyone.... i just want to ask if how set to secure my wireless internet connection, coz MANY people are connecting to my wireless network.what is the MODEL of the wireless router?SpeedSteam                          Quote from: patio on September 11, 2009, 01:00:26 PM

please help.. what should i do now? how to set this to secure?Find the manual for your router and read it.Or post the Model# here and we'll do some digging...
Normally you login to the router thru a webpage and set the security up thru there...Model is:

Siemens SpeedStream 6520WOW. HG Wells-ish.1) Secure your wireless router or access point administration interface
2) Don't broadcast your SSID
3)Enable WPA ENCRYPTION instead of WEP
5) Use MAC filtering for access control
6) Reduce your WLAN TRANSMITTER power
7) Disable remote administration

Solve : Proxy Suggestion??

Answer»

I would like to create a proxy to CACHE frequently visited websites locally to improve web browsing performance for frequently visited websites. I read into Apache and thought that it might be easy to implement the module to make Apache into a web cache proxy, but a STATEMENT at their site has me concerned over my network security.

Statement from the apache site states:
---------------------------------------------------
"Warning
Do not enable proxying until you have secured your server. Open proxy servers are dangerous both to your network and to the Internet at large."

---------------------------------------------------

So I am trying to figure out how the proxy would be dangerous to my local network given that traffic should only be outbound through proxy at port 80 and not accepting requests from outside my network such as the internet to the inside of my network.

Any suggestions, stuff to double check, or other proxys other than Apache that might be better for security? Well I ended up with a better solution than using Apache as a web cache and figured I'd share the information in case others want to set up their own FREE Web Cache Proxy Server to improve load times of frequently visited and high traffic website loads.

I found SQUID and installed it to my Apache Server running side-by-side as a service. Then all I had to do is make a firewall exception to allow my internal network to access the proxy, but block requests from outside. Then visit each system that is on my network ( 5 computers ) and edit the browser properties to point to my private squid proxy server at IP 192.168.33.101 port 3128.

Web SITES that are frequently visited load at LEAST 2x faster than before. Some of which are 3 or 4 times faster to load, and no software has to be installed on workstations, just the single server with squid to host the proxy service.

More can be found on squid here:  http://www.squid-cache.org/ and the wiki here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Squid_(software)

Here is what I THINK:
When they say open proxy, it means it is accessible to everybody in the net. Then traffic and other viruses are waiting for your vulnerability.

Nope.

Solve : Firefox prevents page reloading??

Answer»

Hello and thank you for looking at my thread.

I use firefox as my browser for the internet but recently firefox has been preventing PAGES from automatically reloading.
I most USUALLY didn't have to continually click "allow" once I gave approval to a page however this is become a regular thing. Having to click allow continuously, even for SITES that I have been to hundreds of times before. "Hotmail" for example or "ninemsn" reload and I have to click allow several times. It is getting very tedious.

Is this a GLITCH or a problem with an update or do you think this is a normal situation?

I get all the updates and can only assume that it has some area, that I haven't ticked in the options box or something, for it to remember which pages I have previously allowed.

Can I overcome this CONSTANT clicking of allowed pages please?

Thank you ImnoGuru.

JohnWhat are the websites? Can you ping them?

Ping website here

Can other computers that use the same internet connection as you access those sites?I am trying to get to http://www.shorebankdirect.com/  and it changes to https://www.sbk.com/personal , it then communicats as I can see data flowing on my net PER second meter , but it just seems to hang and I just done a new windows instalation that did not help. I am connecting thru PeoplePC can the server you connect thru effect this problem?

JohnAs of now, both sites work fine.
What Windows version do you use?
Are you on dial-up?Well I  fixed my problem, seems like you NEED to INSTALL service pack 2 for windows xp just the basic xp will not work must have something to do with the ssl or http(s).

JohnYou should install all of the critical updates for your machine, don't just pick and choose them.

Also make sure that you have good anti-virus and anti-malware software.  I recommend Avast! and Malwarebytes.

Is this happening in IE or FireFox ? ?
What protection apps do you have installed including firewalls ? ?

Hi thanks for the REPLY, It happens in IE8, IE7 and Firefox, I have the free version of AVG, Windows Defender and Zonealarm as a Firewall.

Regardsare you sure your clicking and not dragging the icon? This sounds like the "no-drop" icon you get when you try to drag a program icon over top of another one.

if your sure your not dragging, it could even be a problem with the mouse- a sticky mouse button or something wrong inside that causes the button to stay down; which might explain why you need to perform multiple clicks.

It could also simply be that your "drag" window is too small for you. If your able to determine that the mouse is functioning, I recommend increasing the drag sensitivity value.

First, you need a handy tool from Microsoft, called "tweakUI". It can be found here:

http://download.microsoft.com/download/f/c/a/fca6767b-9ed9-45a6-b352-839afb2a2679/TweakUiPowertoySetup.exe

once installed, It should appear in Start->All Programs->PowerToys for XP->TweakUI. Start it.

Select the "mouse" item, found on the box in the left hand pane. You'll find a "drag" box within the "Mouse sensitivity" Frame, increase this, click apply, and try starting one of your programs that would give you trouble before. Hopefully you will find a value confortable ENOUGH so that the computer doesn't mistake one of your double clicks for a drag click Yes!! that does seem to have cured it, Thankyou very much for your help!! Solve : AOL password not remembered?

Answer»

My AOL email "username/PASSWORD remembered" option has today stopped WORKING, although still listed in the tools/remembered password list.  I can gain access by manually entering details - that's no problem. although a bit frustrating.  Other passwords seem to be OK.  The only thing I can think of that may have affected things is a Java update downloaded today (advised by Secunia PSI automatic check).  My browser is Firefox, sometimes IE, both affected.  I have Windows Vista Home Premium SP2 - Java 6 update 17.

Any suggestions appreciated.Check that cookies are enabled in BOTH browsers. Sometimes, if they're different, it changes SPORADICALLY. Thanks for reply Helpmeh -

Cookies seem to be enabled ok - still have the problem.

I now notice two icons in the AOL sign-in area with "Choose your provider" noted underneath.
What does this mean?  Also , if I click the sign- in box (with nothing entered) I get "enter a value for your email, screen name, or ICQ UIN"
And you're sure you've checked "Remember me" or something to that matter? Once you sign out, it removes the "remember me" cookie. I've checked all the relevant boxes - still no joy.

I don't know why it should suddenly not remember - always been ok before.  I will have to contact AOL - it must be something to do with their service.

Thanks again for your interest.

Are you using Outlook Express or are you using webmail?  If webmail, what browser are you using?  And, what email service?

Solve : Unwanted websites pop up in Internet Explorer?

Answer»

When we use Internet EXPLORER 8 even THOUGH we have the pop up blocker turned on websites keep popping up in new browser windows.  The pop up blocker appears to be working (it blocks pop UPS from the sites we are on) but these are new browser windows that randomly open.  We've run antispyware and antivirus software but the problem still continues.  Help! Download and run either MalwareBytes or SUPER AntiSpyware AND do a full SCAN with your avThanks, that helped a lot!  Great program.

Solve : Firefox 3.5.5 crashes repeatedly?

Answer»

So, BC_Programmer. If you know about this problem, do you think the FF people do to and are working on a fix or a patch on that?  If so, do you think it makes sense to wait for the patch or to "roll back" to the old Adobe 8 (why from 10 to 8, why not to 9).
Honestly, I don't know how to roll back  .

I mean what do you suggest: KEEP the Adobe 10 and use FF gently until they get the problem fixed.

Or, go back to an older version of Adobe and run the risk of finding "This site requires an adobe update".

And, if your ADVICE is to "roll back" can you explain how to do that please? Which version should we roll back to and where do we find it?

so many questions...

Thanks!
DrDAll I did was go to tools->add-ons->plugins, and disable the FLASH 10 plugin. I restarted firefox, and enabled the flash 8 plugin using the same procedure. I'm not sure if a version 9 plugin exists, but if you have it you could try enabling that one.

This is not a bug in Firefox, but a bug with the Adobe Plugin; it is adobe's responsibility, not FFs. I thought it was annoying however since FF insisted originally that I needed to DOWNLOAD the plugin to fix "severe security vulnerabilities" I did get it from adobe.com though.

Considering Adobe has yet to even announce anything about a 64-bit plugin for ANY browser, and how slow they are releasing pretty much anything, I think we have a while yet.

After a few days of random restarts FF told me that the Flash 10 plugin was causing the crashes; I rolled back and haven't had a problem since.

Also, I have encountered very few SITES that require Flash 10; not that it matters, IMO, it's more important that the browser works; if I couldn't use any flash version I would disable it completely.

Solve : Frustrating Redirection Virus!?

Answer»

Hi everyone,

I was hoping someone could help. I got hit with a nasty virus earlier in the year but was able to PULL almost all of it off my system (manually) over the summer. Unfortunately, one component has remained to torment me: Anytime I use Firefox for a search, whether it's Yahoo or GOOGLE, I get a redirection to some crap site, usually gambling/porn/singles finders/whatever. I've been ramming my head against a wall trying to get rid of this bugger. Plus, my computer is running slower and slower as it gets bogged down with more malware and spyware. I have Win XP and am running two virus protection software programs: AVG free and Avast. I've cleaned by system repeatedly with them, but it never gets this monster out. I'm at my wit's end. And, btw, I'm really paranoid about downloading I.E. I'd rather just clean up Firefox and whatever is causing this, then to download an even wormier browser.

I saw on this forum that it was suggested that a person with a similar problem download HijackThis, which I did. I ran it and now have a log. I was hoping someone might analyze it for me, or suggest something else to try.

Anything would be appreciated.

Thank you in advance!

Clik Here...  and follow the instructions...

I used the self-help tool to analyze the log. I PATCHED a few holes in my system and managed to delete two suspect exe. files. I really thought I had found an answer.

Then I did a random search via Yahoo and wound up hijacked again.

Is it possible I have something so deep in my system that even HijackThis can't find it?Yes.

HJT is only 1 tool we use as you would have seen on the link i posted...
These malware writers are getting so INSIDIOUS that no 1 app will do it all.
I suggest posting ALL the logs in that section...You need to READ the entire post that Patio gave you the link to. Then post all requested logs so that a specialist can have a look and advise you further.

Just using the self help tool won't completely fix your problem.Download Commodo firewall with antivirus (freeware) for block the auto redirectional site

and

Download ESET Nod32 trial version and update the virus database and scan your disk.

It will clear. Quote from: gopinath on November 17, 2009, 05:08:15 AM
