Solve : Internet Browsing?

Answer»

i cant send any e-mail from my hotmail, but i can receive the mail, when i try to send e-mail, showing a message that "Verify Your Accound before do that" please a solution for this as soon as possibleWhat browser?
Have you tried using a different browser?
What security software have you installed? (Firewall)i cant send messge from my hotmail account, hotmail keeps ASKING me to verify my account before sending message. just give me a solution for this.so have you verified your account?

MSN Hotmail will not let you send messages, and I'm assuming you've already done/attempted VERIFICATION YET it asks you to do it again?

Give this a try ...

★Verify your e-mail address

If you used your own e-mail address to create your Windows Live ID (The e-mail address and password that you use to sign in to Windows Live PROGRAMS and services such as Windows Live Hotmail and Windows Live Messenger; Microsoft services such as Xbox LIVE, MSN, and Office Live; and anywhere else that you see the Windows Live ID logo.) you might be asked to verify your e-mail address.

★Click Verify your e-mail address.
Make sure the e-mail address shown is correct, and then select Send me verification e-mail.
When you receive the verification e-mail, follow the enclosed instructions.
★Notes★
If you receive a This link is no longer valid message when you click the link in your e-mail, click Go to Windows Live Account and select Verify your e-mail address at the top of your account summary to restart the verification process.

★If you receive an e-mail asking you to verify your e-mail address and you've not signed up for a Windows Live ID, someone else may be trying to use your e-mail address for their account. You can select to cancel the account from within the e-mail.

★If you receive a message stating that your account already exists, you may need to RESET your password. For password reset information, see Reset your password.
You may not be able to use your Windows Live ID until you verify your e-mail address.

Hopefully this works for you, when I attempt sending mail with my own Hotmail email account, no error comes up for me

Solve : Random pages...?

Answer»

Long time no visit, this site here.
But anyways, this occurs on Google Chrome and Internet Explorer; moreover Google Chrome.
So YEAH, when I click on a link like on Google, or another website, a random (completely unexpected) website opens...and a lot more pop-ups COME around now...there are no spyware/malware apps on my laptop, I know.
But the random pages showing up thing, is REALLY annoying...
Anybody know of a fix?? Quote from: teezy4life on June 26, 2009, 02:40:53 AM

there are no spyware/malware apps on my laptop, I know.

How do you know this for sure?

What page(s) is it linking you to?

To be honest, sounds like a browser hijack, especially since it's more than one browser with the problem, but without more information, can't say for sure.I have Malware Defender, Windows Defender, and AVG Internet Security; no reports of malware.

And say, if I typed a query containing..."upcoming PS3 releases" and I see a result come up; and the link in green (below the page preview) is like..idk..http://www.n4g.com ; I'll click the link, and I'll be redirected to some random site...sometimes it's a REALLY random SEARCH engine, some I've never heard of; and sometimes it's an adult-meeting website...like ew. It's bugging me.

Since you suggest it's a browser hijack (which I highly AGREE with), do you think uninstalling and reinstalling my browsers would do anything?

At all?Uninstalling/re-installing your Browsers will not do it...
Visit the Virus and Spyware section and post the logs following the guide at the top of the page...This definitely sounds like an infection - probably adware

To remove it I would recommend that you scan with Ad-Aware http://www.lavasoft.com/products/ad_aware_free.php

Solve : Firefox 3.5 Does not close properly??

Answer»

My computer has been running a bit slow lately after using Firefox. Firstly I ran scans with AVIRA, MalwareBytes and SuperAntiSpyware (after running CCLEANER). All were clean with no problems. But when I checked Task Manager I saw that after Using Firefox it continued to use a lot of the CPU (almost 100%) and the Performance tag went from very little to 100%.
To stop this it meant restarting my computer. This seems to have started after Firefox's latest update.
I have tried a cold reboot. (Shut down. UNPLUGGED including wired Internet connection everything and went out for a while. On return started ) Same result
I have posted here rather than the Virus forum as I think the problem is Firefox? If incorrect please tell me and I will post there with logs.
WIN XP Pro Version 2002. SP3
Intel Pentium 111
512 Mb RAM
Firefox 3.5
AVIRA Anti Virus
COMODO Firewall
Win Patrol
Spyware Blaster

If I have done it right there should be screen shots of my Task Manager below.
Thanks for any help.

[ATTACHMENT deleted by admin]Meant to post this one as well!

[attachment deleted by admin]Just to clarify.
Are you SAYING Firefox is always running even after a restart, or does it only happen after you've used Firefox? When I restart Firefox is not running, but after I use it and close it it continues to run. No sign of it on the screen, but it is in the Task Manager as posted. It stays shown running in the Task Manager until I restart again.First screenshot indicates Avira using 40% of CPU cycles, which is little bit suspicious.
Close Firefox (make sure, you kill firefox.exe process in Task Manager). Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same, high CPU USAGE?It seems you're not the only one.
http://support.mozilla.com/tiki-view_forum_thread.php?locale=ca&comments_parentId=384318&forumId=1

Several of the users claim Comodo SafeSurf is the cause of the problem and I can see you have Comodo installed. Thanks for the replies.
I tried closing Safe Surf, no difference.
Also tried starting Firefox in Safe Mode. After closing it checked the task manager, same result.See, if same thing happens in Safe Mode with Networking.COMODO just did an update. After that I restarted and was going to restart again in Safe Mode with Networking, but now all seems well! So maybe the problem was COMODO?
Also noticed that on restarting there is now no sign of Safe Surf?
Thank you for the help. If the problem comes back I will post again. (Hopefully not!)I'm glad, things are good

Solve : All pages on IE and FF load blank?

Answer»

OS: Windows XP

As the topic states, INTERNET Explorer, and Fire fox pages load blank, on occasions they will load correctly, but later they just load blank. When the laptop is shutting down, if I refresh the page, it loads. Also I have submitted posted on forums, which save but the page loads blank.

This STARTED when I came home started up my laptop, and it it asked if I WANTED to WORK offline, which it had never done before, I had turned my wireless radio off, so I turned it on then clicked retry where it asked if I wanted to work offline, it CLOSED then came up again, and I clicked retry, and it closed and I proceeded to open a web page, which said connecting to yahoo, then done, and the page was blank. No matter what other web site I went to it wouldn't load.

I have experienced this before on another laptop, I left it on for a while and it worked after that, and putting it to hibernate would also cause pages to load blank, but restating it fixed that.

Things I've tried:
Restarting
Turing Wireless radio off then on
Leaving it on for a while
When it worked shutting down the turning back on.
hibernating then restating
Working offline, then online

Any help is greatly appreciated.

[attachment deleted by ADMIN]Simply travel to the desired site and hold down the left mouse button on the favicon and drag it to the bookmark bar...Patio thanks for the reply, but its not working the same as before have a look at pic, also before the upgrade i was able to go to addons and click on favicon picker and options there used to be options that are not there now the only options( see pic)and i have tried all the diffrent comobinations such as checked all, checked only one, etc..... are there settings in about:config that i could change? i am looking but , you guys are the Pro`s ! also incase you were wondering the only way i have the favicons that are displayed is because i use moz-backup to backup and restore my profile so after installing 3.5 i simply restored my profile.

When i do it it places the favicon there...
I then select Properties for it and delete the Text to save real estate. He wants to change the favicon to a different icon.

For example, SpellCheck.net does not have a favicon. Favicon Picker would let you choose an icon to be displayed for this site.So right clik the link/favicon and select properties/customise...

Ooops NEVERMIND. Quote from: patio on July 03, 2009, 05:05:07 PM

I just downloaded Favicon Picker 3 and that is how it works.
Right-click the bookmark, click properties, and the icon can be changed from there.

I am guessing bobgar34 is using an older version of Favicon Picker.

Solve : Firefox update?

Answer»

I have updated Firefox today. The latest version works smoothly. But in the add and remove programs list in control panel shows the Firefox's previous version (3.0).Then I try my best to remove the programs but not removed. After this I delete the MOZILLA's file from 'C' drive. What is the problem?what SHALL I do?I am using windows XP pro (sp 2), AVG Free, spybot & advanced system care free.pls help me. Does Add and Remove Programs show both a 3.0 entry and a 3.5 entry?

I have noticed that sometimes when I update Firefox, the new version is added to the list but the old version is not removed from the list. It seems that it is just a mistake in the update process.

My solution has been to use CCleaner to remove the old entry. In CCleaner, go to "Tools" in the left column, go to "Uninstall", select the old Firefox entry, and click "Delete Entry". (If you decide to try CCleaner, I recommend going to this page and downloading the "Slim" version.)No only shows 3.0 version. I use advanced system care free. My question is : what is better? Ccleaner or advanced system care free. Can I use both?I think you can use both CCleaner and Advanced System Care, but I have not tried.

Since you do not have a Firefox 3.5 entry, I would try downloading and installing Firefox from the Mozilla website. You should not have to uninstall your current Firefox version before installing the new one.Add/Remove CleanerI have installed the latest version(3.5) again.I also installed wot, flagfox, foxtab,PERSONAS for firefox and speed dial add ons.Now add/remove programes list show the latest version. But size show 25.52 MB.Is it correct size? That looks about right. My Firefox is 26.98 MB, but I have more add-ons.Those are just your program files.

Look here:
C:\Documents and Settings\username\Application Data\Mozilla\ Quote from: Shamim on July 02, 2009, 01:39:22 AM

Now add/remove programes list show the latest version.
And, the older version is gone, or do both versions appear there? In the all programs list from start menu there are two Firefox. One is Mozilla Firefox and second is Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Why? Because Safemode is built into FireFox...
It's used for troubleshooting stubborn extensions or BROWSER issues.
Perfectly normal.

Solve : HTTP 501/HTTP 505 Error?

Answer»

I hope this is the correct forum for this problem. I keep getting this error everytime I try to get into the www.vermont.gov or any sub-sites to vermont.gov:

The website is unable to display the webpage

This error (HTTP 501 Not Implemented or HTTP 505 Version Not Supported) means that the website you are VISITING doesn't currently have the ability to display the webpage, or support the HTTP version used to request the page.

I have tried going into the INTERNET Options, Advanced Tab and removing the checks on "Show friendly HTTP error messages", "Use HTTP 1.1", and "Use HTTP 1.1 through proxy connections". This was suggested on the Microsoft Support website. It didn't help.

Has anyone out there had a problem like this and if so, how did you fix it, short of purchasing a Registry Repair program?
                                   thanks
What Browser ?IE 7. I had tried IE 8 but it didn't play well with Hughesnet. I should add that this is a website that I had been able to get into in the past. Thanks....Registry repair programs would not help. You DEFINITELY need the HTTP 1.1 checkboxes ticked.

Can you try browsing these sites with a difference browser, say Firefox? Try temporarily disabling any internet security suite and any add-ons installed in IE (or start IE in "No add-ons" mode). This is REALLY going to sound weird, but I just tried "one more time" to get into www.vermont.gov and it worked! For weeks and weeks I've had no luck getting into that site. The same THING had happened to me about 6 months ago when I was trying to get into www.usa.gov. Couldn't get into ANY government site. It seems strange that the only sites I've ever had PROBLEMS with have been state and U.S. government sites? I would still like to know WHY this is happening, but, I suppose it is just one of those "fourth dimension" anomalies.
Thanks for your input, Rob. It is sincerely appreciated. Hmm - might be worth posting in the malware forums and going through the virus checking routines... Glad it's working, anyway.

Solve : Internet Explorer disappearing?

Answer»

This is a doozy

The principal came to me with her laptop, (school issued) and said that on Saturday she was online with no problems, but when she turned on the computer on Sunday and clicked on the IE shortcut a box opened up asking what program she wanted to open the program with.

HUH?!

Well I started it up and sure enough got the same box. Tried other IE shortcuts on the desktop, tried from the start menu, tried from start>programs>Internet Explorer. All got the same box.

Then I went to c:\program files\Internet Explorer and found that the application was GONE. The folder is there, whatever ELSE that is supposed to be there, is there. But the actual application, the "E", is missing.

Ok, I figured "something happened" and went to install IE6, but got a message that a later version was already installed. On to IE7, which for some reason is blocked by the proxy software from the board of ed. IE8 then, all was going well, right up to the point where it tries to update as part of the installation. You guessed it, failure. If there is no application it can not update, and without the update there could be no installation.

Finally I installed Firefox and with crossed fingers did an import. Thankfully all of her favorites were ABLE to be imported and she can now get back online. And with Firefox set as the default browser her shortcuts now open using Firefox.

I have never seen anything just wipeout IE like that. Anyone seen this before? I will recommend a reimaging once school starts again, but for now she can work with it. Quote

Yep - The results of a virus infection. Thanks, now I just have to contact the principal to get the laptop back. Do you remember how to get RID of that particular one, or should I just get it back, run the scans and post the logs? There's gotta be thousands of VIRUSES that do this.

If you post the three logs from >this post< in the Computer Virus and Spyware Section, one of our Malware Removal Specialists will assist you. thanks, I will post when I get the laptop backI am wondering too, though, what version of windows (xp, vista and any service packs?) is the laptop running?xp pro sp 3. I should have the laptop back tomorrow to work on over the weekend.Turns out it is xp pro sp2. Ran scans, posting in viruses.

You do KNOW they have a pill for that right?Besides, if someone knows how to write a program to achieve such a thing, you would think they would be knowledgeable enough to figure that out.and I'd think that .... he or she MAY be able to hijack the COMPUTER so that he would be able to run the browser normally outside of the"special" browser link Quote

What does this achieve? What are you hoping to accomplish?

I've been to several places which provide a password to customers. One place gave an hour's free time for no purchase, and more time with a purchase. The password on a SLIP of paper may be low-tech, but it's an easy means of providing control access.

Solve : Can't keep my msn.com home page in FF?

Answer»

I don't know if the original question went through, I timed out before submitting, so please forgive if this is duplicate post.

Hi guys, long time no see. This is wordy, but bear with me, please.
I use FF BROWSER (updated faithfully) for everything but IE/Windows updates. I have it set to automatically open a couple of tabs for my convenience, one of them being the msn.com home page (the one with the search links at the top, news links, hotmail link, etc.) In the last week or so I've noticed that instead of getting this home page, I'm automatically diverted to the msn sign-in page. Clicking the back button either got me to the hotmail sign in page or just a refresh of the msn sign-in. Tried the back menu (down arrow) and either saw half-dozen sign-in pages, or if the msn.com address was there it still redirected me to the sign-in page. Typing msn.com in the address bar redirects to the live sign-in. I've closed the tab and opened a new one; I may get the msn.com page the first time but then the same problem occurs once I've signed in to hotmail and signed out again. I've checked the tools/options and I have the correct address there, nothing has changed there.
NOTE: This does not happen in IE. I can sign into and out of hotmail with aplomb, no problem with the msn homepage appearing and staying put.

Is this some new quirk of FF vs MSN? Yes, it's a matter of convenience, but I want what I want. What can I try to get rid of that annoying sign in page every time I sign out of hotmail and GO back to the msn.com page. As always, thanks for your help. Well, it appears the adjustment in my bifocals helped the most... I BELIEVE now I was not paying close enough attention to where I was clicking. Sandwiched in between the two Hotmail links was a sign-in link to the msn site. I have not had a repeat of my problem since I started being more careful about where I click...(sigh. I really miss my mind sometimes.) Thanks for not razzing the old fart on this one.
And Happy FATHER's Day, if it applies.Glad you were able to figure out what the problem was.

Solve : Clicking on a link in an email opens browser but does not connect to the link.?

When I CLICK on a link in an email Firefox open but it does not open the webpage. I USE Outlook 2003.
For example the link in the email is:

This message appears after Firefox opens:
http://www.youtube.com/v/ervaMPt4Ha0&autoplay=1" name="plugin" width="100%" height="100%">

It ALSO HAPPENS if I use Internet Explorer 7.

I have AVG Internet Security v8.5.

Is this a AVG issue, an Outlook issue or a browser issue?
Any suggestions would be appreciated.
Thanks. Bobsounds to be an outlook issue, with it not transferring information correctly. Try reinstalling it and hopefully that should fix it.

[attachment deleted by admin]Okay, quite a few add-ons. Would you mind just trying to start FireFox in safe mode? (You should have a link in your start MENU - otherwise probably something like "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -safe-mode at a command prompt will do it.) Are you now able to clear private data? I did, and Avast warned me about trojan.
Obviously, it's nothing more than false positive, because the program is safe.
I reported the issue to program's maker. The maker response was rather RAPID one.
No more Avast warning on second download.Hi Rob!

Surprisingly, no option to "Clear Private Data" shows up under Tools Menu of FF Safe Mode!

I have an unpartitioned Hard drive(C: only) & I have installed 3 different flavors of Mozilla Browsers viz. Stable Version 3.0.11, Firefox 3.5 RC3 & Minefield(Shiretoko) on the very same drive!

I have observed that installing all of these on a single partition is very much like existence of 3 different bodies with a 'Single Soul'!

Any change I make(say for instance adding a New Extension) to any one of the above does impacts the other two as well.Very same extension shows up within the other two albeit disabled or else!

Just check out on how I decipher b/w various flavors & which one to choose from:----

Solve : Internet Options flashes on and off and IE7 is not working.?

Answer»

Trying to fix a friends computer. It started last week. She tried to restore, but it's still doing the same thing. They can't get on internet, they only have IE 7, it comes up and acts like its going to load and then goes off. Right clicked on IE7 and nothing happens. The internet options folder does not open in control panel. They have AVG 8.5 and it took off some trojans and some infections that were found in a few registry keys and viruses, about 17 of them back in May. Went in to add remove programs and IE 7 does not have a remove button on it. They Have Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 Service Pack 3 Computer: Dell DIMENSIONS DIM 2400, Intel(R) Celeron(R) CPU 2.40 GHz, 2.39 GHz, 256 MB of Ram. They also have Defender Pro PC Repair which they ran and came up with nothing. They have and dont know where PC Bug Finder Pro v1.0 came from, said they haven't used it. They also have McAfee on there but it expired a couple years ago. Sounds like it is still riddled... have you tried INSTALLING Mozilla Firefox instead of IE to see if you can then get out to the web and get further in curing the system of its issues... you will need to download Firefox using a healthy computer and install it on the troubled pc.

You also may have to perform a completely clean new build, but if there is important data you may need to have a professional create a copy of the data before wiping the drive clean and installing the fresh clean OS.There is no Uninstall option in Add/Remove programs.
In that There will be a option "Add/remove windows components" in that
UNCHECK the microsoft Internet Explorer and click Ok and reboot.

After Booting, Insert the XP CD and again go to Add/remove windows components and
CHECK the Internet explorer option and click OK this will reintsall IE7.Tried to uninstall ie under windows components, restarted and reinstalled, didnt work, they had ie 6 on it . was able to get mozilla firefox on there and its workin. so they are happy with that for now. Thanks for your help!!Just for future reference removing IE will cause nothing but issues...this is by design unfortunately...The fact you were able to use firefox leads me to believe that there's still some malware that requires IE to run.....a trip to the malware forum may be the path you should take first......I don't think the previous attempt to remove the bugs got everything.

In fact Defender Pro...well.......you judge......http://www.ripoffreport.com/reports/0/224/RipOff0224842.htm

Solve : FireFox...drop down windows don't work?

Answer»

In the upper left of the fireFox window are two drop down arrows next to the "Go back/forward one page" arrows. Mighty handy CREATURES. The main arrows still work, but about two weeks ago, the small drop down arrows stopped working. Have no IDEA why. Don't RECALL doing anything different. Any ideas of how to get these working again. Hate to have to hit the "page back" BUTTON a dozen times, when once will do. Any response appreciated.Close Firefox. Go Start>All Programs>Mozilla Firefox, click on Mozilla Firefox (safe mode). Same thing? Will try it out and get back to you.I did as you suggested. I checked off each box, one at a time and it only works properly when the add-ons are disabled. I guess I'll have to go through them one at a time. The only one I've added lately was CALLED "Save Images 0.5.1" I'm going to deal with it first. Thanks Broni. Quote

Solve : Remove 'Live Search'...?

Answer»

I've been TRYING to remove this 'Live Search' from the IE8 tool bar for a while now. It's only marginally annoying, so it isn't really a big issue, just a customization that I wouldn't mind making.

I've been all through the options and tools, but can't seem to locate anything for it. Of course it's Bing, so MS WANTS it in there, but I don't. Is there a registry key for it?Are you talking about the search box on the toolbar? If so, and if it DEFAULTS to Live Search, just change it to another provider. If you WANT to remove the search box completely see this: http://www.mydigitallife.info/2009/08/20/how-to-disable-remove-or-hide-ie8-search-box/That was perfect Allan. Once again you read my pre-coffee wake up BRAIN. That was exactly what I was looking for.Glad to help.

How do you know that? IMO, it's a non-issue; in other words, there's no substantial difference between them in terms of security. So, security is not the BASIS I'd use for DECIDING which to use. I'd choose the one I like best based on features.

Solve : IE8 makes my CPU go to 100% when watching on-line Videos and Recording Songs?

Answer»

I installed IE8 I have Windows XP service pack 3. When I WATCH Videos on-line for example a TV Show and when I RECORD music the CPU goes to 100% and the video looks shopping and the music i'm recording locks up than after a while it is normal again than goes back to 100%. Is anyone else having this trouble and how can I get around this? I don't have any trouble playing music or watching a DVD when IE8 IS CLOSED. So i'm almost positive it hassomething to do with IE8. lots of people have had problems with IE8...I try to avoid using it or installing it when servicing people's computers..

What version of Windows are you running? What service packs?
The more information that you give will improve the help that you get.

I have Windows XP and Service Pack 3, when I try to play on-line TV Shows - the video either freezes up or runs very slow, since installed IE8. Is there a way to make the video play normal again? i have the compatibilty view button clicked it HELPED somewhat. The cpu in the Windows Task Manager goes to 100% when I try to view a video not sure why?It would be helpful to know how much memory and AVAILABLE HD space you have.I have 970MB and a 80G Hard Drive, When I play DVD I have no trouble at all on my computer I have the problem ONLY when I view video on-line and using IE8I'm thinking that you could seriously use some more ram.970MB of RAM is perfectly fine with XP.
How much free space on that 80GB hard drive?

Download PROCESS Explorer: http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb896653.aspx

Solve : Problem with links?

Answer»

Hello EVERYONE. I did a quick search and didn't find ANYTHING, so here's my problem:

I've noticed over roughly the past 2 months that some links don't work on some sites.
The one I need to work now is the link to the graphing calculator on CoolMath.Com. I have Java enabled on the browser (firefox), but I still can't get it to open. I click on it and nothing happens.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how this problem can be corrected? Thank you for your TIME and have a great day. There are a few links on that site that will not open on my end...contact the Webmaster. Thanks for letting me KNOW you had problems with their links too. I've corrected the problem as far as getting that particular link to work. However, I now have a problem with getting the graphing calculator ap to work. I have the Java plug-in. Any ideas on what's wrong there? It won't show up at all but works fine on my other machine running Vista.

Solve : I have a simple question about my internet.?

Answer»

I have a working desktop computer (windows XP) in my house, and I bought a router and connected a second destop to it (also windows XP). When I first connected it, my internet on the second computer worked just great, but then when I restarted my second computer, its internet no longer works. And not just internet explorer, but firefox doesn't work, iTunes and QUICKTIME player also doesn't work for some reason. Every time I click on explorer or any of those programs, I get an error message asking if I want to send an error report to microsoft. All of my games on that computer still work, and the first computer seems unaffected. I'm not sure what's going on, but any advice would be more than welcome. Thanx in advance.sounds like a problem with the connection from the third party router and the computer.Turn off computer. Disconnect router, and modem from power source for 30 seconds.
Power them back on.
Restart computer.

If that doesn't work, bypass router, and connect computer straight to the modem.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>RUN (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

In COMMAND Prompt window, type in following commands, and HIT Enter after each one:
ipconfig /flushdns
ipconfig /registerdns
ipconfig /release
ipconfig /renew

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Go Start>Run (Start search in Vista), type in:
cmd
Click OK (in Vista, while holding CTRL, and SHIFT, press Enter).

At Command Prompt, type in:
netsh int ip reset reset.log
Hit Enter.
Type in:
netsh winsock reset catalog
Hit Enter.

Restart computer.

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
Restart computer, and check again.

If that doesn't work...
Download Dial-A-Fix (DAF):
http://wiki.lunarsoft.net/wiki/Dial-a-fix#Mirrors.2Fdownload_locations.2C_and_articles

Have XP CD available in case DAF needs a file. Likely not!

Check all boxes on the screen (clear any restrictions if it shows any)
Then click GO!

When the entire page is finished click the HammerHead at BOTTOM to go to the second DAF page.

Here, one at a time, do the below:

Reinstall BITS
Reinstall Windows Firewall
Repair Permissions
Reset networking

Watch for any File not found or other errors and make note as this may lead to the fix!

Restart computer.

But when i used my other browser i.e. Mozilla that time it ( SYSTEM) is properly WORKED .The details of my IE browser is as follows...

  version: 6.0.2900.5512.xpsp.080.413-211
  Cipher strength 128bit.
  Product id:55274-645-2775716-23860.

With love
Souvik why are you still using IE6? What SP (Service Pack) do you have installed for Win XP?dear friend,
I am using XP3 ............ but i used IE 6 becaused in IE 6 i can only read my REGIONAL E NEWSPAPER ( BENGALI).........Upper version of IE 6 My paper is not compatible .Thats way?
souvikCan you post the link to that newspaper? I would stick with Firefox. Even Microsoft has given up on IE6. I can't remember all the details, but somebody held a mock funeral for IE6, and MS sent flowers.friend,
My E newspapers link is www.uttarbangasambad.com. It is not working or getting problem with higher version of IE of microsoft. That's why i used IE 6. Help me out.
      thanks,
SOUVIK
Exactly what problems are you having with that website? I viewed it in three browsers: IE 8, Firefox, and Chrome. It displays the same in all three browsers.

However, the upper center of the page has the left and right arrows as shown in the ATTACHED image. Apparently, clicking the arrows is supposed to advance or move backward through other web pages. When I viewed the website, clicking the right arrow only displayed a page up to #2. Beyond #2, it shows nothing.

I also find it odd that clicking anywhere on the main body of the web page opens it as a PDF document in my PDF reader. I also find it odd that the entire main body of the web page is an image, not text and small images where applicable. Perhaps they have their reasons for developing the website this way but, in my opinion, it's a poorly developed website. And, any website that only works right in an old version (such as IE 6) of a web browser really needs to catch up with current web standards.

So, again, I suggest you post a detailed description of specific issues you have experiencing with the website if you want help. Even then, I don't know whether anyone can help since, as I've said, the website is poorly designed.

[recovering disk space - old attachment deleted by admin]I tried the site using Opera and IE8. I found the same situation, any CLICK in the body of the page takes me to my PDF Reader as well. The only difference that I noticed is that I was able to get all pages up to and including page 20 using those arrows, in both browsers. Don't know what problems he/she could be encountering though. The pages appeared to be complete although I couldn't understand MUCH.
What I could read was free cheese, and I didn't take them up on their offer. Quote from: overthehill on May 03, 2010, 12:42:44 AM

The only difference that I noticed is that I was able to get all pages up to and including page 20 using those arrows, in both browsers.
I just visited the site again, using the Chrome browser, and viewed 20 pages. Apparently, they may not have had 20 pages published during my previous visit. They seem to have the website designed to accommodate up to 20 pages in that main body of the page.

The use of PDF documents in the body of the web page appears to be a simple way of putting copies of pages from a printed newspaper publication on the website.

souvik, do you have PDF reader installed on your computer?Dear friend,
Unfortunately My E News paper ( WWW.uttarbangasambad.com) is changes its WEB technology To pdf version from 01MAY 10. It has no problem with any WEB BROWSER . Let Its would be IE ,Crome , Or Mozila at present.

Any web link I try to browser through IE 6, I get only problem when I close the IE ( version 6) ,for time being my computer is Hanged i.e. Mouse is not operated to activate any option of desktop. Then I pressed the restart button of my computer to solve the situation.
what may the real problem?
thanks
souvikIf I'm not understanding you proprely I apologize, But using IE8 I"m able to access this site (www.anandabazar.com ) This time I'm only able to view page 1. But, I'm suspecting that's because I"m not a subscriber. The page(site) did not hang when being closed. Quote from: souvik on May 04, 2010, 10:53:29 AM

Non-sense, I've looked at anandabazar.com in the latest version of Chrome and IE 8 and I see no problem. What is the "Dynamic font" you're talking about?

When viewed with IE 8, IE prompts me to install "Bitstream WebFont Player", which I did not install. But, as far as I can tell, the site works fine in IE 8.

IE 6 is an obsolete, insecure browser. Due to it's lack of SECURITY, compared to later versions of IE, it's a poor browser for "naive user" to be using.

Solve : Websites not opening--onecare wont update becuase it wont go?

Answer»

I know I have seen this before, but when I search there is no answers that match. I have a laptop, RUNNING XP, using wireless with windows onecare for antivirus. RECENTLY, I my antivirus was not updated, and I noticed it would not go to the onecare support website at all, it just times out.
I have been in the live chat of this site, and have installed AVG, SuperAntiSpyware, and run CCleaner. The computer has been restarted (multiple times) and none of this has helped. Another site affected is Kohls.com, which I rarely if ever visit, but I have been trying to go all week and it just times out there. The peeps on the live chat said to post in here cause they are stumped. I also went and checked my host FILE, and the original sample is still there. (registery is still directing to the RIGHT host also) OneCare is being phased out....
So you think that the AV is causing it not to go to webpages? I have AVG downloaded too. I turned it off and I can get to a few more sites, but still not to my main issues.Travel Here...
And follow the INSTRUCTIONS for posting your logs...
A bit tedious but well worth it.

Solve : Embedded Chat?

Answer»

I'm not quite sure where to put this question. I know I am going to sound like the "Tech Nazi" but I really need to stop the embedded chat in Yahoo MAIL. Does anyone have any suggestions? I don't want to block Yahoo itself, just that irritating chat box. From the Yahoo page:

Quote

What you need to do is locate where the chat is in Yahoo! Mail and SIGN out of it which will make you offline in chat.

1. For Yahoo! Classic Mail chat: it is located in a blue box on the left just change your status to Sign Out of chat which will make you offline.

2. In the All-New Yahoo Mail you sign out of chat at the very top of the page to the right of where it says "Hi, your name" You will see a drop down arrow click and choose "Sign out of chat." Your status in for chat in Yahoo! Mail will change to offline and chat will be disabled.
I guess my last post was somewhat vague. I don't use Yahoo, but I don't want to block it EITHER. I want to block the IM so other users on the network cannot use the embedded IM. Is there a way to do this?OHH... now its problem...
I'm also administering an OFFICE network, I guess blocking yahoo.com is the my option for the moment.

Solve : IE7, IE8 cannot install, Firefox crashes on Yahoo?

Answer»

I have a problem i don't understand. I have both Firefox and IE6 on my pc. In order to have a better browsing experience in IE, I decided to run upgrade my IE to 7 or 8 but keep the Firefox as well. Anytime I try to upgrade the IE, and restart the PC, Windows Explorer simply SHUTS down and I have to use CCleaner (by way of Windows Task Manager, because my desktop icons as well as my Start Menu don't appear) to reverse the installation.
I have checked the system requirements for IE7 or 8, and I don't have any problem with them. My PC runs XP SP2, has a PIII 1GHz processor, 512MB of memory and plenty of HDD space (25 GB of 80 free). Also, my monitor has 800 x 600 display with 32 bit colours (if I read correctly from the FAQs, there should be no problem here either). I have also followed the instruction to switch off Anti-virus/Antispyware software temporarily (I am using AVG Free 8.5, which i update almost every day). I am not particularly diligent in downloading updates, but I have (primarily because of this problem) downloaded the IE updates from the Microsoft site.
The second issue concerns Firefox. I am only FACING one problem with it which is that when I sign out of my Yahoo mail it crashes and closes down as soon as the Yahoo main page tries to load. Now I checked the add-ons, and saw the latest called "Yahoo Application State Plugin". It also says that it has been disabled for my protection. I followed the link to the Mozilla site, and it told me it had been disabled because of freqeunt crashes. Now, the browser claims it is already disabled (the "enable" button is inactive), so why does the browser continue to crash?
Hope help is out there, thanks!Did you uninstall IE6 first? Quote from: Boozu on October 08, 2009, 02:07:50 PM

Yes, I know. I was responding to the other poster. I'm really not sure what your problem is. But you have a fairly old system so if everything ELSE works okay, I'd suggest you just run IE6 and Firefox and leave well enough alone.have you tryed this?

Step 1Open the Start menu and CLICK on the "Control Panel" icon.

Step 2Double-click on the "Add or REMOVE Programs" icon. A pop-up window will open with details about all of the programs currently installed on your computer.

Step 3Click on the "Add/Remove Windows Components" button on the left side of the pop-up window.

Step 4Uncheck the box next to "Internet Explorer" and click "Next." Then confirm your decision to uninstall the program. When the process finishes, Internet Explorer 6 will no longer appear on your computer. The installation process should take less than five minutes.

Uh, why do you say that? I just checked out the site. Is it not genuine? Or is it risky following that procedure? (Or maybe an expert called (Virginia DeBolt sounds just too scary??? )

Have you tried it yourself???I have not had a reason to but it should uninstall it. I don't know if that will solve your problem but you can try it and if it does not work then you can just recheck the box and it should reinstall it.

Uninstalls it.

Going to the same place and rechecking it will reinstall it.

Solve : Back button problems?

Answer»

Lately when I PUSH the BACK button, it takes me to the top of the previous page instead of the place I was at. If I am HALFWAY down a page and I open up a site to view, when I hit the back button it is taking me to the top of the page. It is aggravating on a long page.Alt + back arrow will take you to the previous web page...You can try atl+ back or you can re install the browser to check.Or PRESS the BACKSPACE button on your keyboard

Solve : Google updates?

Answer»

I'm certain I read a post 6hrs ago about the google update service/s
Can't find it now,
I noticed that one of the google updates is set to run every 15minutes -
Is That REALLY necessary?
I think I discovered how to adjust it,
But THOUGHT I should find out a little more first,
I would just like a guide to setting new 'rules' for the updater

Thanks.
Thanks for being HEREUpdates to specifically what? Google Software Updater,
GoogleUpdateTaskMachineCore,
GoogleUpdateTaskMachineUA,
GoogleUpdateTaskUserS-1-5-21-1611545731-1282709027-4163699891-1003Core,
GoogleUpdateTaskUserS-1-5-21-1611545731-1282709027-4163699891-1003UA,

Is this the type of info you are asking about?

Only have Chrome and Earth installed - but what would I know

ThanksOK, I guess that's helpful but I can't help SINCE I only use Google for searches, maps, and gmail. Therefore, I have no need for "Google updates".

But, stay tuned. Someone else will probably have some suggestions for you.All the google update tool is manages installed google applications and keeping them up to date.
Why? Is it causing problems?I've got the Google toolbar, although I don't ALWAYS have it turned on, and I get occasional updates for it, but only at most once a week, if that.

I also use usually Google for searches and have gmail as a back up email account, and don't remember ever seeing updates for them.

Updates every 15 minutes would be excessive for anything except CNN, some weather sites or PGAtour type services or sites. Quote from: Carbon Dudeoxide on July 31, 2010, 09:14:16 AM

It runs automatically through the TASK Scheduler,
Is set to start every day, and run every 15minutes

I had the same opinion - excessive

Thanks for replies :-)Chrome Frame now also integrates with IE more closely, meaning that the add-on now works with IE’s InPrivate browsing mode, and that clearing cookies and cache in IE will now also clear out the same elements in Chrome Frame.
