Solve : IE doesnt ask to save password? |
|
Answer» Doesn't the fact that many of your posts have been questioned by a number of members give you a HINT? Wanting to join a forum like this and help is great, and you're to be commended for it. But when the advice you give is questionable you need to expect to be challenged. Don't be defensive, instead try to learn from it.Broni thanks for those posts, I CHECKED the registry entries and they are set to yes. No. The OP says IE will not save passwords on ANY site, not just one. In my case, to me, that was any site. I hadnt ventured past say a dozen different sites, (all ones I had been to before). Like I said it was a short list. IE just lacks some of the benefits and features that firefox seems to have as standard and I FOUND F/F more usable (for me). Broni's suggestion ensured the settings were correct to continue, while the instructions Azzaboi gave me, did the job, others of his instructions would have deleted ALL the passwords in all browsers, the 3rd option given. (from what I could make of it, like soybean said). Quote from: soybean on February 28, 2010, 08:49:15 AM Right, and Azzaboi's procedure would affect/reset IE's behavior with all websites, not just one. I would die if that were to happen. I have back ups of all these things both on the computer and as a written document external of the computer. ( do you remember that thing called paper and pen. Yep that.) I wrote it down. So far it all seems to be saving the passwords Ok. Thank you all for your assistance.Quote from: ImnoGuru on March 02, 2010, 07:25:45 PM the instructions Azzaboi gave me, did the job, others of his instructions would have deleted ALL the passwords in all browsers, the 3rd option given. No, his instructions pertained only to IE; they would affect IE's behavior for all websites, but would have no effect on Firefox or any other browser. WOW thanks soybean, that was my biggest worry... whether doing that would have affected F/Fox passwords as well. That's the main reason I didn't pursue that, past option 1. I was actually going to set up an old computer to test just that and see what the result was. (Heaven knows I have enough old computers lying around) I don't even think they would sell on Ebay. Well that puts my mind to rest. Thanks again for the heads up soybean. |

Solve : New favorites not showing up? |
|
Answer» For a while, the new favorites I ADD don't show up at all in my favorites dropdown thing. I still have old Favorites, but any new ones simply don't appear. When I try to add another Favorite with the same NAME as an invisible one, it SAYS it already exists and asks me if I want to overwrite. It doesn't matter what I choose. It's not there. I'm running Internet Explorer 8 on Windows XP Home Edition. Help please! I'll be happy to provide any information you need to fix this glitch. |

Solve : IE8 background processes? |
|
Answer» IE8 background processes Maybe I'm being a little paranoid, but this seems odd to me... I uses Windows 7 Ultimate 64bit, the only THINGS in startup are the required Windows, Audio, Graphics Driver, Mouse, and Kaspersky Internet Security 2010. On startup I've noticed it shows two copies of 'WMPNSCFG.exe' in the background tasks for a few seconds, then they disappear. The THING is I've disabled Windows Media Network Sharing. Next is when I start Internet EXPLORER 8, I normally get two 'iexplorer.exe' processes, SOMETIMES three. It seems like one process for the entire program, then one each for the tabs, is this correct? Sometimes it also asks to restore tabs on startup (recover like from a crash but it's never crashed), which still just opens 'about:blank' homepage. Internet Explorer 8 Add-ons: Quote Shockwave Flash Object - Adobe Systems Inc - 10.0.32.18 - Enabled Background Processes: Quote explorer.exe - Windows Explorer The computer runs fine and smoothy but just curious. Thanks in advance!http://www.sevenforums.com/network-sharing/4471-internet-explorer-help-please.htmlThanks, good to know. |

Solve : Firefox error or malware? |
|
Answer» So if nothing happens then we know its one of the PROBLEMS with themes and add ons or extensions? So if nothing happens then we know its one of the problems with themes and add ons or extensions?Yes. Same goes for opening speed. The more add-ons you have, the longer time to open FF. In general, FF is not the fastest browser to open. While in Normal Mode, switch to default FF theme, disable all add-ons, restart FF. If it works OK, start enabling add-ons, but one-by-one, restarting FF each time, until you find the culprit. I also re-read your first post: Quote When I am in a window and typing in a messages or or a new url, the screen will jump to a random pageSome infection still possible... Does that MEAN I should uninstall it ? I do like what it does. Do you think by reinstalling it might work better?I don't think, reinstalling an add-on will help. Some add-ons are just like that, eating up RAM, or slowing down FF. Read here: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Problematic_extensionsConsider what StumbleUpon is doing while you are browsing...it is indexing hundreds of web pages with random associations according to each page you open... Even on a high end machine this will take up some cycles.Makes sense, but would it affect the opening of FF? I can see how it would affect browsing. ThanksIt probably has to download it's index, or load it, or something along those lines. Just a guess though. Thanks appreciate the advice. |

Solve : Does saving long documents slow computer?? |
|
Answer» If I save a long book , say a couple hundred pages, does that slow computer's internet use? That would mean I should only save url and hope document isn't taken down. Or I could and should save to a CD instead? Any large download could produce some general system slowing and so reduce browsing speed - but VARIOUS factors will come into play. Speed of connection is one and if slow then probably browser might BEHAVE slower during download period - you haven't supplied any info on that. |

Solve : firefox question? |

Answer» The address bar has a small arrow at the far right. When I click on this arrow, it DISPLAYS possibly the browswer history, or it recommends bookmarks or something. I cleared the history, ran crap cleaner nothing is changing this list. This problem all started when I updated to the lastest firefox. In the least I wish to CLEAR the list, ideally if that arrow and any drop down list would disappear, I would be very happy. If it is any help there are gold stars on the far right of the history listAre you talking about the RSS feeds? is it an orange button with three curved LINES going through it? |

Solve : IE freezes? |
|
Answer» Ok I've only noticed this with internet explorer. I have at&t yahoo browser, with IE 7. For about a month or so I've had the problem that when i'm typing, every once in awhile it will just stop typing like it froze. My mouse will still work but nothing will type for a couple of seconds. Then it will go back to normal. I have XP professional SP2. 2 gigs of ram. I've just started using firefox and I have not had the problem. I just don't know too much about firefox and I had everything set up the way I liked it in IE 7 so I would like to keep that working. well when I go to system tools, I don't have that optionAre you SURE, it's IE7, not IE6?when I go to about browser it says AT&T Yahoo! Browser Product Version: 5.05.02.409 File Version: 2008.08.18.01 AT&T Yahoo! Version 7.00-000-ACIX Internet Explorer: 7.0.5730.13 So I assume yes it's IE7 Anyways I went and reset my browser and it went back to the orginal way before there were add ons. It is still doing it.DLoad and install FireFox. Travel to your Yahoo home page. In FireFox clik on Tools/Options ...in the first page choose "use current page" under Homepage... Never look back.yeah I've been using firefox off and on and I figured if I couldn't figure this Internet explorer thing out, I would go completely to firefox. I liked having the multiple tabs open in IE, but I haven't figured out if firefox can do it yet. This is the first problem I've had with IE so I like it.Firefox has been having tabs built in for a long time. Plus hundreds of other features.I know I just don't know how to use it yet. I'm thinking my best bet would be to switch over to firefox. Can you have multiple tabs at start up on firefox? http://support.mozilla.com/en-US/kb/Multiple+tabs+open+when+starting+FirefoxWow you are a mastermind. Can I delete yahoo from my computer even though their my internet provider? I have all kinds of questions about my processes in the task manager. I have 87 running and I think that's a lot. I've looked at websites to see which I could get rid of and I'm just afraid/lost on what to do. I should probably search first and start another topic for this I guess, although I'm hijacking my own thread.Leave it on...just delete the Desktop shortcut. Yes start another Topic...Post a HijackThis log for us to see the services...As patio said, we can check for any malicious entries in HJT, but not all services are listed there. Your best bet is to install ServiWin: http://www.nirsoft.net/utils/serviwin.html The above program will allow you to print out a list of all of your services. With that list, go to BlackViper SITE: http://www.blackviper.com/, and compare your list to his "Safe" list. |

Answer» Quote there was some type of error about a week agoTry System Restore to before that date.how do i do that 1. Click Start, point to All Programs, point to Accessories, point to System Tools, and then click System Restore. 2. On the Welcome screen, click Restore my computer to an EARLIER time, and then click Next. 3. On the Select a Restore Point page, select the date from the calendar that shows the point you'd like to restore to, and then click Next. 4. On the Confirm Restore Point Selection page, verify that the correct restore point is CHOSEN, and then close any open programs. 5. We tried to fix it with EXE File Association Fix, and apparently, it didn't work. I'm not aware of any other way, than RUNNING Windows repair with Windows CD.is there a way that i can competely delete the OS and reinstall it Yes. You need Windows CD. Unless, you have Recovery Partition on your computer. In any case, all data will be lost. How far to grandparents house?he is bringing to to my house i saved all my pictures online and my documents on a jumpdrive i just need to know how am i to delete it Try repair, first: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm If it doesn't work, go for clean install: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/cleanxpinstall.htmlMaybe your computer is attacked by virus, check if there is virus in your machine.Don't mind me saying but IE is a problem in itself. S Y N T A C T I C A L L Y *sigh* I also observed someone else getting a blank page with Microsoft Explorer when they clicked on every and any url!!! Surely there must be some way to correct this? I haven't used Eudora since I was at Penn State. (That would be '96-'99.) I did look around on the Internet and your problem is apparently not that uncommon. There aren't any solutions, at least not at first glance. The problem you are having is apparently caused by an anti-phishing feature in Eudora. Something in the way the hyperlink is written does not meet Eudora's standards and so it is considered suspect. I'll do some more poking around. Thank You Ever So Much For Your KIND Reply. I will solve this problem someday soon! *grin* I personally don't think that there is any software that has a bug CANNOT be corrected. Some Things Just Take A Little Longer. Or As The SAYING Goes........ "The Incredible we do right o way * The Impossible takes a little longer! *smile* CYAL |

Answer» It is.I come here for my daily dose of warm and fuzzy! I did some MALWARE cleaning and a defrag yesturday and still not much of a difference. But what I have just noticed is that the system is no longer REGISTERING one of the STICKS of ram. I noticed this in the BIOS. I replaced the stick with another stick out of an identicle MACHINE and sure enough it picked it up. No more vram messages on my screen do your browsers still crash? Or is all well for you then?No crashes since. Strange I have never had a stick that died usually they are just DOA or good to go. Good to hear you fixed it! Although I imagine we were more of a hinderance then a help in this instance. |

Solve : About Deleting History? |
|
Answer» I am using Windows Vista. Is there anyway to reverse deleting history? Someone has been deleting their internet browsing history and I need to see what they are hiding. Thanks! If not deleted, browsing history is retained in index.dat files. Is there anyway to reverse deleting history? I don't THINK so. If it is deleted, you might not be able to get it back.well, i am not very sure if history DATA can be recovered, well, my hunch says it is not possibleTrust me. If index.dat files are not deleted, your every single internet step is listed there.I dont think this person would like you to spy on him/her, and i don think anyone should help you, sorry but thats just my opinion, but you can try to go to start, Run and type regedit, and SEARCH for words you might think this person has searched for and isnt allowed to...but i advice you not to really!Confirm: Although it's possible to be otherwise- it looks as if this is a parent or guardian trying to determine what their ward is viewing, and they are well within their right to do so in ORDER to determine WETHER further remediation is necessary. |

Solve : What secure Browser is out there?? |
|
Answer» Ok guys I want to know what is the SECUREST BROWSER on the net out there?Mozilla Firefox Mozilla FirefoxCarbon, that article is a bit out-dated now. Clearly, it's referring to IE 6 when it implies a version of IE without tabs. And, it's basically referring to Windows XP, pre-SP2. With Windows XP SP2/SP3 or Windows Vista, and IE 7, I seriously doubt Mozilla's Firefox has a significant security advantage. Probably not. The only security disadvantage of current IE version, would be ActiveX, in my opinion.Hmmm....Although I agree that article is a bit dated, there are many Add-Ons for Firefox that can make it safer.FIREFOX is best browser which iam very much like it In Firefox 3 in the about:config area, is there anything I could change in there that will make it more secure?Google found a few goods links: http://hubpages.com/hub/How-to-make-firefox-more-secure http://www.firefoxfacts.com/2007/02/14/make-firefox-safe/When it comes to what browser is the most secure this past few years, I would say that Mozilla Firefox is off the charts.I'm a hard core Firefox user, but I want to be as much FAIR, as I can. Please, go to Secunia site, and look at the numbers, and types of security vulnerabilities in IE7, and Firefox. They're about the same. There was a different story with previous IE versions. FYI, I don't like, and I don't USE IE at all. |
