Solve : can't open new windows in IE?

Answer»

I did windows updates - EXCEPT SP2 - and now I can't open more than one window in IE without it locking up & it stops responding. I have IE 6.0.28. This is ANY extra window other than the original one I've opened. I didn't CHANGE any settings that I know of... Anyone have any ideas? Could it be something about my ISP? Would really appreciate any ideas of where to start!Have you scanned for viruses and Spyware?

[glb]FLAME[/glb]First thing: I use SpyBot, Adaware & Norton AV: all found nothing, but I guess that doesn't always mean anything!did you re-boot the system after updating??check firewall settings......I always reboot immediately after updates. I've also ran disk cleanup & defrag, and made sure my NAV defintions were up to date. I even went to PCPitstop & ran it, and it only had a couple of minor suggestions about other things, but found the system to be fine. One thing it mentioned was that my broadband download was really low - I have dial-up, not broadband.
Keep those ideas coming - there's GOT to be a fix!
Thanks,

Solve : Can't access tables on Pogo?

Answer»

I can't access the tables on pogo.com, a window pops up to inform me that I have a pop up blocker..DUH!

It's only the rooms with the tables though. I can get into the room, just can't access the tables.Which operating system are you using? Do you have Service Pack 2 installed?

[GLB]Flame[/glb]I FIGURED that you would recognize my name from the other problems that I was having..which haven't seemed to let up any

Anyways, I have Windows xp and use ie
yes, I have service pack 2 installed.I should have posted this also, I think my browser may have been hijacked, because strange stuff has started to happen. Can anyone help me with that? If so, please send me some instructions on what to do. I would be grateful!!Lets try this... For both problems... Follow this link: http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyID=321cd7a2-6a57-4c57-a8bd-dbf62eda9671&displaylang=en ... This will allow you to install Microsoft AntiSpyware... Once you install it, scan for spyware, and setup your settings so that your browser can not be hijacked... This SHOULD fix the problem...

[glb]Flame[/glb]I wanted to tell you this..before the download I went to yahoo.com (remember me having problems with the GRAPHICS not showing) and it worked like normal! I refreshed the PAGE and it was messed up again with the YAHOO not showing at the top and the flash (currently mountain dew and pepsi stuff) didn't show! Weird HUH?

Ok, I have downloaded the thing and am running the scan, is it ok to have adaware se, spybot, spyware detector by my internet provider (cox high speed), and norton along with this?

Also, what do I NOT need to delete when It comes to scans? I deleted something once that we needed!ok, here's what shows up...tell me the numbers of what I need to remove..

1 180 search assistant (adware)
2 Transponder .VX2 (browser plug-in)
3 Comet systems (adware)
4 Peper (trojan downloader)
5 NewDotNet (Browser Plug in)
6 ShopatHome (spyware)

9 Marketscore.InternetAccelerator (spyware)
10 eXact.BargainBuddy (adware)
11 AvenueMedia.DyFuCA (browser plug in)
12 BrowserVillage Toolbar (adware)

some of them have remove or ignore, or quarantine already marked...do I do as it says?

I know I am aggrovating you, but I feel like if I don't get this fixed, my step-dad will blame everything on me!!!

I get funwebproducts showing up on spybot all the time, and it won't ever delete. It says it can't.

what do I do?

Solve : "Save As" and duplicate page download?

Answer»

When I do a "Save As" of a web page in IE 6.0, the program appears to be fetching the page again over the Internet before writing it to disk (the connection icon and Zonealarm icon in the taskbar both flash briefly). In Tools/Internet Options/Settings, I have "Check for newer versions of STORED pages" set to "Never". How can I prevent it from doing the second fetch?OK, I don't know the answer to this, but I could probably figure it out.........

But before I look into it, my curiousity has the best of me. Why does it matter whether or not it does the second fetch?

johd...........I'm not 100% sure but I believe thats just the way it does it ......is that a problem for you ?
Perhaps one of our very technical members will offer a better answer for you .

dl5 To answer the question, "Why does it matter?". I do "Save As" quite frequently. Each time, the second fetch eats up a bit more of the download quota I have been allocated by my ISP. Also, it clogs up the Internet with unnecessary traffic, thereby slowing it down (even if only slightly) for everyone else. If a lot of people are doing it, the "clogging" effect WOULD be magnified.Download quota, well that explains it. I wasn't even aware that some ISPs still had those.

When you do the "Save As" are you doing "Web page, complete" (the default) or "Web Page, HTML only"? I don't notice a hit on my connection with the second and I have my IE "Check for newer versions of stored pages" set to "Automatically".Gussery. I have been using "Save As" with "Web page, complete". Since reading your post, I have tried it with "Web Page, HTML only", and with "Check for new versions of stored pages" set to "Never", and, similar to you, I did not SEE any activity on the icons. This will be useful to know if I were only wanting to save the HTML, but usually I like to save the whole page. Thanks for your help.

Solve : Randomly turn off?

Answer»

My computer randomly shuts off. When I turn the computer on, it turns off again before the password screen appears. It will continue to shut off whenever I turn it back on.

I downloaded IE 7 and MADE some updates on my Norton and ever since then I have had this problem.

Also, the computer shuts off when I run a full system scan.

Does anyone have any advise? So you can't start the computer at all?
Have you tried Safe Mode?
I presume this is XP as you have IE7 - what service pack? Home or Pro? Is it genuine?Yes good point, you should try SAFEMODE and then do a system restore (if it will LET you). Or you could put in the restore cd (WinXP cd) and start the recovery console, or (recovery disk) depending on the model of your computer or if it was home built.Once the computer turns off, I can turn it back on. But literally 20 seconds later it turns off again. This happens every time I will try to turn it back on. I would have to wait a couple of hours before the computer will turn on and STAY on.

I am using XP home edition.

My computer is a Toshiba SatelliteSounds like a heat problem.
Are the vents CLEAR, does the fan spin when you turn it on?
Are you using it on a hard flat surface?

Solve : Downloading Issues?

Answer»

I currently run IE7 on a windows Xp, with 512 mb ram, 1.39 ghz celeron, although this same problem has occured for me on my laptop, which runs XP, IE7 on 768 mb ram with a 2.3 AMD. This problem also occurs for me when using firefox. When I try to download multiple files, more SPECIFICALLY, more than two files, the computer freezes and won't allow another download until one of the other two are finished. This slows me down quite a bit. I have tried everything I can think of to fix this, but that pretty much MEANS I have simply gone to the help files and changed my security SETTINGS. To no avail. It doesn't seem to matter where I download from i.e. Download.com, microsoft, school NETWORK or any number of other sites, they all stop adding SL files after two. I know in the past I have downloaded many more than two at once, and though it slows down, I can turn it on when I go to bed and wake up to a dozen or more new programs. I run roadrunner @ 5mbps for my modem. I have had this problem when using my schools wireless as well. Any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. That will happen with IE, there is a connection limit.
You can "patch" the file to allow more connections, but it can be risky.
The easiest solution is to get Firefox - faster, more secure, and can do more things, including download more than 2 files at once.
Hope this helps. Not to be rude calum but the OP also said Quote

This problem also occurs for me when using firefox
Sorry, I should learn to read:-[
Do you know what happened before this started? As far as I know nothing about my system changed. Remembering further it was occurring even before I upgraded to IE 7, i.e. when I had IE 6. The only physical changes made to the computer since I got it would be an upgrade in RAM, storage and graphics card. I have had to reload Windows a couple of times after the system went down, but this was only on my desktop, my laptop - which suffers the same downloading issue as in the original post - has only gotten a RAM upgrade. Again, thank you for your help.

Do you have the Windows firewall enabled? Go to Control Panel and see. Is this XP? What version? WHat Service Pack?

You don't know if you have an antivirus installed? What about some sort of spywarfe protection as well? Look around in Programs or ask your brother. If the machine is not clean all bets are off.

Post back with your and your brother's findings. See below. Dr. Patio will be standing by as well if needed.I do not have Windows firewall enabled right now i had it enable b4. I disabled it to see if that was the problem b4 but it wasnt.
This is a Xp. It has service pack 2.

We have scanned the comptuer several times with norton but nothing has showed up.

1) Start by downloading Spybot (which is free), update it and then run that scan AND your antivirus in safe mode with system restore turned off.

http://www.majorgeeks.com/download2471.html

2) Then try the free online scan at www.trendmicro.com

3) Then try this:

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Security tab
6. Reset all 4 security zones to Default

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Privacy
6. Restore 1 Default button

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. Advanced
6. Restore 1 Default button

You may need to do the following as well

1. Start
2. Settings
3. Control Panel
4. Internet Options
5. General tab
6. Remove cookies, temporary files and history

Kudos to Raptor

Post back with the results.

I downloaded and scan my system and came up with some registry stuff and succesfully removed them.
I scan my computer at the site and nothing came up on the scan.
I scaned with Norton and nothing came up.
I Reset all Internet things.
Nothing helped.Have you tried turning off the Norton firewall?

Solve : IE7 - with no pink cans?

Answer»

Er, that is, I have IE7 and no Tabs. (Get it? Pink cans? Tab? Ah, you're too YOUNG.)

Anyway, I have this snazzy new LAPTOP my snazzy new boss gave me... Running XP Pro SP2, and IE7.

The "New Tab" option is grayed out, and Ctrl + T doesn't work. Yes, "Tabbed Browsing" is selected in options, and I've even played with the "Enable" DWord in RegEdit.

I can't imagine why it's permanently disabled, but IE is the preferred browser for some internal software, so this all would be better if I could get it to work (hence my not wanting to use MY preferred Firefox).

And I can't really BUG the IT folks anymore, as I have bugged them to death regarding this crappy Lotus Notes on here...

Solve : Web Printing?

Answer»

When i attemp to print a Web page while i am bowsing the Internet with Internet Explorer, the Web page may not print. I am using Win 2000 and IE 6. Please help!!! :-? :-?Is the poll necessary?
Do other things print OK?
What happens when you try to print from IE?No the pool is not necessary.
Yes every thing else print OK
But the problem ONLY comes from IE
Thanks.OK, so what happens when you try to print from IE?
Just nothing?
Does the page then show up in the printer jobs?Yes the pages will shows blank on the printer. Like for example on right hand of balnk page WOULD display Page 1 of 1 and at the bottom left is would show: file://C:\WINNT\TEMP.I'll be honest with you, I'm not a Win2K guy.
So I'm not too sure now what the problem is.
Recap: Win2K, IE6, IE doesn't print properly, it prints an almost blank page, but everything else does print OK.
So I'm pretty sure it's not the printer, the connection to the PC, or the driver.
Hopefully someone else can help you out here, we have several Win2K gurus here and someone else may have some BETTER ideas.
Sorry for wasting your time, at least I tried and you're no worse off now than you were before I started. wELL THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR TRYING, MUCH APPRECIATED.You're welcome.
Hope you get it sorted. We need more information, what do you mean you cannot print when using IE? What kind of printer do you have and how is it connected, through network, usb, lpt1, or what? Does the printer show up when you go to file and click print (or ctrl+p). Does the printer not receive the job from IE? IE7 requires:
Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2)
Windows XP Professional x64 Edition
Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1)

But, you might try Firefox.

Solve : IE7 Shuts Down Help and Support Center?

Answer»

!. Zeroed the hard drive. 2.Reformatted. 3. Reinstalled Windows. 4.Updated MS. 5. Checked pages needed for opening problems. None found. Everything sprung open without pauses, hesitations or being unresponsive. 6. Turned off AntiVirus as SUGGESTED from another user. 7. Installed Latest and FINAL IE7. 8. After downloading and installing IE 7 the HELP and Support Center page began acting up again with stalls and unresponsiveness. 9. Rans scans. 10. Used msconfig. 11. Safe Mode for System Restore. 12. Online Diagnostics done by MS and Dell no problems. 13. Online virus scans by Trend, Bitdefender and F-Secure. 14. Spyware scans. 15.So I uninstalled IE7 and all is well again. Another user warned me the IE7 was the culprit and they were so very right. This is so unfortunate. Can this be corrected? THANKS again for all the help. :-/ :-?You really are persistent with that, hey?

Solve : "Page cannot be found"?

Answer»

I recently had a virus (i was told it was a script virus) which made my broswer not see my internet connection and i kept getting the "page cannot be found" error message (see virus section topic "browser stolen"). anyway i FOLLOWED all the recmommended steps to no avail and decided it was best to perform a full format on my hard drive to ensure that everything was wiped.

my local computer shop gave me a package called micro-scope which did a full format of my hard drive. i then proceeded to install windows xp and all my system drivers.

after everything was complete and i was sat with a clean system (no personal files have been put back on) i TRIED to set up my internet connection and connect to the internet and i am faced with the same "page cannot be found" screen and a 'DNS error' further down. the internet connection itself is working on another pc that i have at the side of it.

i tried to ping my ip address (or what my computer says is my ip address) and all four packages came back and then connection seems fine. my browser just wont see my connection. i tried then to "repair" network connection and it wont get past the stage of renewing ip address. if i look under the details of the connection the ip address is either all zeros or says that it is invalid.

i assumed after a full format and reinstallation that my ip address and server / proxy settings WOULD all have been reset / repaired as i am starting from scratch again.

the rest of the system is working fine. do i have a major problem and is there anything that i can try. i am at a complete dead end with it now aftera full format failed and i dont know what to try next. is it possible that my connection port where the ETHERNET cable plugs in has been severed by whatever virus i had or is that not possible.

please help.

thanks

gaz
Look in Device Manager...what does it list for "Network Adaptor" ? ?What type of Internet service do you have? Dial-up, cable, DSL? In IE, if you go to Tools, Internet Options, and select the Connections tab, what settings do you see there? i am using a cable modem.

when i try to install the blueyonder (my ISP) disk it gets to the stage where i connect my modem and then says "connecting to the blueyonder network", at which point i get a 'limited or no connectivity message' and the setup fails.

Interestingly, i tried doing the same on my mothers pc and it failed at the same stage but after speaking to the support team they said that the connection was already live and did not require setup. I tried IE and it worked so i assumed that it would be the same on my pc. after speaking to the team again they have said that as long as the modem is connected to my pc, i should be able to get on the internet without installing the disc, etc.

On the connections tab in internet options, nothing APPEARS but when i follow the instructions for a manual setup, i still cant connect. this is due to the fact that when i choose the option that matches my type of connection it says something to the effect of...'your connection does not require setup' (cant remember the exact words). i assume this is because i am using a cable modem that is connected all the time.

i dont have to register an IP address with blueyonder either which was something else i checked to see if that was causing the problem.

In reply to patio....i cant actually remember what model / brand of network card it is but it is recognised and when i use the option to see if it is working properly, it says it is. when reinstalling all of my system drivers and i got to the network card, i got the same 'limited or no connectivity' message balloon. could this be the root of my problem?

Any ideas or is it as much of a blur as it is to me at the momentIn the Connections panel in IE, under Tools, Internet Options, which setting is selected under "Choose Settings if you need to configure a proxy server for a connection"? For cable broadband, it should be set to "Never dial a connection". If you click on the LAN Settings button, does that panel show any settings as selected?

I think you should contact your ISP again about this. If they won't/can't assist you in getting your Internet connection working, I'd consider switching to a different ISP. Based on your comments, the only thing they've done so far is tell you that you do not need to install the disk to get an Internet connection.

Was your cable modem provided by your ISP? How long have you had it? Were you using the same modem when you did the test with your mother's computer? The original DSL modem I received from my ISP went bad and they replaced it.i bascially just take out the ethernet cable and put it in my mothers pc. therefore it cant be the cable, the modem or the connection as i have full access on her pc.

it only stopped working on my pc after the virus message flashed up. after a full format i assumed everything would be abck to normalas recommended by someone else, I tried yesterday to release and replace my ip address by using ipconfig /release and then ipconfig /renew. i got the following error message in the command window

windows ip configuration

An error occurred while renewing interface local area connection: unable to contact your DHCP server. request has timed out
C:\documents and settings\owner>
C:\documents and settings\owner>ipconfig /renew

I also tried ping www.google.com but it said that the name wasnt recognised. if i ping my local host which was 127.0.0.1 i get all 4 replies.

any idea what this means?

as i said before, the same internet connection works fine on my mothers pc.gaz2195.......

Have you checked in the device manager ...... ( ethernet adapter or network adapter ) to see if the driver for that device is properly installed ....?

dl65 Which was the first question asked.... LOl ...... that's correct , however I don't think some of the posters ever read what is offered them ......

dl65 That's where seven page threads get created...

patio. 8-)in reply to both pation and dl65......under device manager the network adaptor said it was working correctly even though i got that error meassge so not being overly skilled with computers i wasnt sure whether that had anything to do with it.

took the computer down to my local computer shop yesterday and it seems that the hard rive format was successful. he connected his ADSL connection into my pc and hey presto....it worked. now the only question unanswered was why the connection at my mothers house would work in hers and not mine......the answer.....with blueyonder, after you switch the ethernet cable from one computer to the other, the modem needs to be disconnected from the power (or switched off) and then back on again to renew the ip address. i had unintentionally dont this in the first place when first using blueyonder in my mothers pc after my browser had been hijacked to stop whoever had hijacked it using my connection. i was unaware that that is what was needed to switch the connection back again.

Thanks for everyones help

case closedIn future when swapping them around you can try opening a command prompt window if you're not connected and type "ipconfig /renew" without the quotes...

Solve : Mail client from IE 6.0?

Answer»

The only choice listed in internet options is Hotmail as a mail client for IE 6.0. I don`t use Hotmail but want to use my OutLook Express to send mail, links etc directly out of IE. How do I go about getting the Outlook to appear as an option under tools, internet options, connections from the IE toolbar? Before with my old Win98se program it was automatically there.skylane42..... If you go up to the tools button ( up top ) and select mail and news......... you should have the following options .... "read mail", "New message" , "Send a link" and "send page". If you choose any of these items , Outlook Express will open for you .
Hope this helps you .

dl65 OK .. did that and it OPENED my AOL. How do I switch it to Outlook? But it only opened AOL with read news.. the other options did nothing.skylane42.... hummmmm ....lets try this ..... open your Internet Explorer , then click tools /Internet options ...... then the program tab ...then make sure you see Outlook express in the E mail box....... like the screen shot I have posted .....

dl65 Refering to your screen shot... where you do have outlook listed I do not. The only program that is displayed in the PULL down is hotmail. Are you actuallly using Outlook Express now for email? Is Outlook Express on your Programs MENU?I am using Outlook now for my mail and it is working. It does appear in the program folder, just the shortcut on my desktop, not in START menu. My Outlook was missing but I got it back by checking the box next to in in windows components. You mean Outlook Express, right? Outlook and Outlook Express are two different things. What you enabled via Add/Remove Windows Components is Outlook Express, not Outlook.Yep, as indicated in the previous post, OutLook Express.. I just used Outlook as a shortcut.. sorry if it confused.Better to use OE as a shortcut for Outlook Express. That avoids any confusion.

Solve : How to print out a website with all of it links??

How to print out a website with all of it links?
thanks for your help! What browser are you using? What do you mean by "with all of it link"? Do you want a list of the links on a page? Not the links in a box, I know I can do that by check the box in the printing option.
but I want to print the whole website with all linked pages, INCLUDING links that maybe in the frames.

Thanks for your help!I don't know if this is possible.
The way I understand it is this . . . you want to print out not just the page you are viewing, but every page it links to?
I don't know of a way to do this, I think if it's possible you'd need special software.
Can't you just click the links and print the pages from there? The website ftp contains over 4000 files- I don't know how many individual webpages. We want to print out a complete hard copy of the website so we can review and mark up edits on the hardcopy to initiate DESIGN changes. Of course this can be done page by page individually but we want to do it all at once. Also this way we make sure we miss no pages.I could be wrong but I believe it's not possible; I think you'll have to print one webpage at a time. Clearly, there's no feature in the print setup screens for Internet Explorer or Firefox to ISSUE a command to print multiple webpages.Quote

Well, my LAST post was redundant after Calum's post. I did not see it before I posted.

Is this website one where you were involved in the original development? If not, why are you wanting to copy all of it? Who has copyrights to this site?Of course it is our website. We are going to do some redesign, so we are trying to print out a hardcopy for EVERYONE involved in the review.
didadida1889...... Does the software that was used to create this site , not have the ability to display a navigational map of all the pages contained on the site ?

Solve : Internet connection recognised but cant use?

Hey!

However when I go into internet explorer it doesnt let me go to any pages, and it says that it isnt connected to the internet. What is going on? adscraps .......... When did this start ?

Had you been running any tweaking apps or D/L any updates ?
Perhaps you could clarify what you mean by almost all ....... Do you mean that some still work ok ?
What is the model number of your HP machine ?

dl65 I guess I was being cautious in saying that almost every website closes when I try to log in w/ my password. Actually, all that I've tried since this problem started a week ago have closed. I'll try to buy something, get it into a shopping cart, but then when I try to checkout by providing the password, it shuts down. Here's a list of sites that I've previously used successfully and now shut down:
Websites that close when try logging in w/ password:
http://www.starbirdstockdesigns.com/asp_pages/home.asp
http://www.teachers-teachers.com/
http://creatingkeepsakes.com/

http://www.photoworks.com
http://www.drpepper.com/
http://www.creativedelights.com/letteringdelights/
http://www.yorkphoto.com
http://www.coldwatercreek.com/home.aspx

My model # of my HP is m7334n.

I'm not real SURE what tweaking apps are. My computer is set to update AUTOMATICALLY, so I don't know what's been updated in the last ten days or so. Would going back to an earlier restore point take care of that? Is there a way to see what's been recently updated? Your question did prompt me to remember that I had updated Adobe Reader to 7.0.9. I went ahead and removed that, but it didn't cure my problem.Obviously, you can logon to this forum. You mentioned shopping cart. Does the problem always happen when trying to logon to secure sites, where http has, or should, change to https?Check your browser settings to make sure SSL is enabled. In Control Panel, Internet Options, Internet Properties, I looked and "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" were both checked. Does that mean the SSL is enabled or am I looking in the wrong place? Regarding logging into this forum, I seem to be automatically logged in as the site recognizes me when I return and I don't have to enter a password. I have had trouble even w/ sites requiring passwords where I wasn't using a shopping cart. Quote

In Control Panel, Internet Options, Internet Properties, I looked and "Use SSL 2.0" and "Use SSL 3.0" were both checked. Does that mean the SSL is enabled or am I looking in the wrong place?
Yes, that means it's enabled.

You might try using CCleaner and see whether it fixes this. Run the Windows scan; I suggest you include all elements shown in CCleaner's panel (Internet Explorer, Windows Explorer, and System) except Advanced; leave Advanced unselected. Also run the Issues scan, backup your Registry when prompted, and remove the items it found.
Thanks for the suggestion. I downloaded and then ran CCleaner. The problem still persists, however. Upgrade to IE 7 and/or get Firefox. I've now upgraded to IE 7, but the problem still persists.NEW INFO! In trying to troubleshoot, I discovered that the websites that won't let me connect (and they automatically close) are the websites that use the same password as my Ebay account or my PayPal account. Isn't that strange?? :-? Can you logon to your ebay and paypal accounts? On those website that you can't log into, do you get to a screen where you see an option to get help with a forgotten password? Do any those sites have credit card or other sensitive personal information?Yes, I can login to ebay and paypal. Also, on the sites that were auto-closing on log-in, there was a place to check for forgotten passwords. I even had a couple mail it to me to be sure I was using the right one there.

NEWSFLASH: I've just solved the issue, I think. I removed (thru add/remove programs) the Ebay toolbar and now I can log onto those sites I previously couldn't. Thank you, one and all, for all your helpful suggestions and troubleshooting! Stay away from toolbars...most are poorly written and contain all kinds of garbage.

Solve : IE6 sometimes freezes on startup.?

Answer»

I'm running IE6 (version 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp.050928-1517 to be exact) on a Gateway GM5094E with Windows XP: Media Center Edition (with SP2 INSTALLED). Not really sure if it matters, but I have an AMD Athlon 64 X2 Processor 4200+ with NVIDIA GeForce 6100. Anyway...for the most part, IE runs just fine. But sometimes, when I open it, it will freeze up when I try to open a site. It won't have any problems, but as soon as I try accessing a web site, it'll freeze for about a minute or two before doing anything and then will run normally afterwards. It doesn't do it every time, mind you, so it's not an urgent problem. But it happens every couple of days and it can be quite annoying when I'm trying to get something done.

This doesn't happen with any specific sites. It'll do it with Google, MySpace, Netflix, my school site (it HAPPENED about ten minutes ago when I went to log into class), and...well, anything. I have no idea what might've triggered this. I've had my PC for a little over a month and this has been happening for maybe two weeks. If anybody has any solutions or suggestions (besides upgrading to IE7, because I'd really rather stick with this version), I would really appreciate it.Run the solution to your other issue and see if this helps the IE problem...i suspect your internet connection is slow on starting though. Watch the modem lights.Well, see, it's not my internet that's freezing/lagging, but the browser itself. So, if I GO to a site through the drop box, the list will stay there for a minute before going away. Or if I click on one of my Links, the button will stay pressed in for a minute before popping back up. I'm connecting to sites just fine, but IE6 sometimes becomes unresponsive.

I'm getting help with a couple of trojans and that fixed the problem with my default sounds, and I'm hoping that I'll get lucky and it'll fix this problem too. This has been happening since before I contracted the trojans, but who knows. My IE6 problem only happens once in awhile, which makes it difficult to test, but I'll keep you UPDATED.

Solve : IE closes while trying to load new page?

Answer»

I researched everything I could find on the forum but nothing seems to be the same as the problem I have. As per directions... I have a home built COMPUTER with intel celeron 1.7ghz 1.2gigs ram with the only internal addition of an nvidia geforce fx5500 video card. I am running XP home sp2 with IE 7 and everything as updated as I can find. I have used spybot and ccleaner with many fixes performed by them. Two areas that I find having the problem so far are first: when INSTALLING (either by disc or download) the program for my digital camera the computer will STOP the install phase and go into a shutdown and restart loop. Just when windows starts to open it shuts down and starts again. I have to go into safe mode and RESTORE to an earlier date. The second part is when attempting to link to the download site at Kodak, the browser will shut down all windows that are open. My wife just tried to sign up for and play some games on Pogo but when she selected the game she wanted to start, the browser shut down again the same way it did on the Kodak site. I don't know but that it sounds like some sort of flash player or JAVA problem. Any help would be greatly appreciated.Do you have Flash Player installed? Do you have Java installed?Yes to both. The flash is adobe 9.

Solve : Can't load Internet Explorer 7?

Answer»

1/29/07
I'm running an HP zv 6100 with WIN XP Home that I purchased a little over a year ago. I have downloaded and tried to install IE7 on several diffrent occations, each downloaded from the Microsoft web site. Each time I install the program and restart windows the following error comes up:
Error- EabServr.exe- Entry point not found
The entry point-Getprocessimagefilenamew could not be located in the dynamic link library PSAPI.DLL
Then each time I click on the IE7 icon on my desktop it creates ANOTHER IE shortcut on the desktop, but fails to open the program.
I've had to uninstall IE7 each time. I've even deleted the downloaded file and re-downloaded it thinking it was corrupt, to no avail.
I've done an extensive search for information with regard to this issue, but I continue to GET directed to sites that WANT to check and repair my registry. Although I know the issue is going to be in there somewhere none of the SCANS have found a problem in the DLL files (I even used the free version of Registry Mechanic).
I'm not convinced that purchasing one of there programs is going to fix my problem, but at this point I'm willing to try if it's a plausable fix.
I'm not familiar enough with what a DLL file is or what it does to know how to fix it so any information will be appreciated.
MHI'm not familiar with this problem. However, this made interesting reading:
http://tinyurl.com/ydu9xjAny reason why you're hooked on IE7? :-? There are many alternative browsers out there that can do a fine job. I've used Firefox for quite some time and except for the occasional site where I have to use IE, FF works like a charm.. I also have used Netscape, Maxthon, OffByOne, BrowzarBlackWin, and Opera.

Alan <>< GOOGLE finds many hits for PSAPI.DLL and for EabServr.exe. Perhaps you haven't been diligent enough in researching this.

Soy,
Had you read the complete statement you would have realized that I've pursued the links you have listed. My concern is that since one can only gain the full benefit from these products by purchasing them, will it actually fix the problem...........
Thank you for your reply.
MH
I DID read the complete statement. No where in it did you say that you had tried downloading psapi.dll from http://www.dll-files.com/dllindex/dll-files.shtml?psapi. You mentioned scans and reinstalling IE7, but not downloading psapi.dll and replacing your existing psapi.dll with it. What I would do in this case is rename the old psapi.dll rather than delete it. Then install the downloaded one. If it makes no difference or seems to have made things worse, you can revert back to your original.

Fooling with IE7 may not be worth the trouble. You're not the only person who has experienced problems with it. As ale52 said, Firefox works like a charm. I have IE7 installed but I mostly use Firefox 1.5.0.9.
Soy,
Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all your knowledge on the issue, but.......
If you follow the links that you suggested it will require a purchase to gain the full benefit of the program. I downloaded and bought registry mechanic last night and it identified problems with my DLL files, but after the "repair" it still came up with the same issues. I know there are other browsers out there but this is the only of 4 computers that I have on my network that has a problem with IE7. I don't want to take the time to train the rest of the users on a new browser. I'm to the point now that I think I'll just re-load windows and see if that fixes the problem. If you have any further suggestions I'll be glad to try them.
MHA good format and reinstall solves all Windows problems, for a while.

Solve : ie explorer?

Answer»

To take a screenshot, press the Print Screen button (Prt Sc or similar) near the top of your keyboard.
Then paste it into an image program, such as Paint, or anything really.
To make IE the default browser (which wouldn't affect much by the way) go to Tools --> internet options --> programs, and it's in there.
It is for IE7 anyway, I think it's pretty much the same for IE6?
Do correct me if I'm wrong though.
If you've got Firefox installed and working, good for you.
I bet you won't want to go BACK soon.Okay, I got the screenshot pasted into Paint, but can't figure out how to get it here. :-?In paint, click save as.
Then save it as a jpg and ATTACH the jpg to your POST.
Does that make sense?I will try again :-/

looks too small, but each time I resized and tried to post it kept telling me file was too LARGE,have you got a magnifying glass MSCM:

Next time, try saving it as a .jpg file. These are smaller than bitmaps, and will also be better for emailing, if that need comes up for you in the future. .BMP is the file extension for bitmaps, and they don't get compressed as much as .jpg files.

Solve : Sites Don't Display Correctly (Warning: Pictures)?

Answer»

A few days ago, I noticed that many of the things displayed on websites stopped displaying like they used to. This includes text (As I TYPE this, the letters are all smaller, have screwy spacing between letters as well as words, and they move of their own accord while typing every now and then), images, highlighting is off, and just the general set up of the sites seem to be thrown off. I can't really explain what it's like, so I'll try to USE some pictures to help you figure this thing out (Assuming you want to, of course).

Here's the buttons located at the top of this very site. The images are so small, and I don't think they're supposed to be.

This is what I get if I try to HIGHLIGHT text. Notice where I stopped highlighting. It cuts right through that "h." Though it's actually worse than that. I'm highlighting a bit to the left of there, but it doesn't show the highlighting correctly.

Here I am looking at an upcoming book from Wizards of the Coast. See the words going into the picture? And the little bulleted links are screwy, too. If I go back there, it sometimes comes out alright. Here's the actual site: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/107627200

Here's a log in screen. Things aren't lining up as they should.

Here's an e-mail I received in Gmail. That highlighting should be over the word "Wii."

And here's where I'm storing these images. It's a mess!

I think I know how I started this. When typign up a message for a forum, I needed the little degree SYMBOL (When saying 360 degrees), so I went into Word and inserted it as a symbol, then copied and pasted it into my message. Right then, things got warped and it hasn't been the same sense. I'd SAY that's probably when it started.
Any advice, guys? It's driving me crazy!

-SunblastThis is a test. I'm going to post a sentence with the degree symbol. My CPU is running at 41° C.

I'm posting this with IE 7. I copied the degree symbol from Word 2003. And, it has had no effect on my browser viewing.

If you go to View, Text Size, what setting do you see there? When you made the screen prints, did you have your browser maximized or set at a smaller size window?I can see the degree symbol you typed. My text size is set to medium, and my browser was maximized. I always maximize. Can you go back to a Restore Point before this happened?Erm, I had to set up a restore point to go back to it, right? Cuz I don't think I've ever done it. Go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore. Proceed to the screen named Select a Restore Point. If System Restore is turned on in your system, you should see some calendar dates in bold. These are dates for which you have a Restore Point. When I went to System Restore, it said it had been turned off and asked if I'd like to turn it on. Rats.

Solve : Unable to disable popup blocker sound?

Answer»

I've unchecked the box in the internet explorer popup BLOCKER settings (IE 6.0), and disabled the popup blocker sound in my google toolbar as well. But the sound keeps playing when popups appear (even if I cant disable all popups, i'd like to disable all popup sounds). Please Help. Thanks!

Computer info:
IE 6.0
SP2 installed
Microsoft Windows XP
Version 2002Well, my first suggestion would be getting rid of the Google toolbar, but to each his own...

As for disabling the sound, give this a try...

Open up your Control Panel (Start > Settings > Control Panel) and open Sounds And Media Devices. Then click on the Sounds tab. Under the Program Events SECTION, scroll down to Windows Explorer. Right under that should be Blocked Pop-up Window. Click on it once. Under sounds, it'll say SOMETHING like Windows XP Pop-up Blocked. Click on the drop down menu, go all the WAY to the top and select (None). Click OK. You shouldn't have to restart your BROWSER, but I'm sure it wouldn't hurt.

Now, hopefully that'll take care of it for you.

Solve : Strange redirect with Live Image Search?

Answer»

Let me start off by saying that this isn't my PC, it happened at school. And I apologize for the long post.
Me and my friend were doing our work on the computers at school, and he needed some pictures of fruit.
So he went to msn.com (Google images is blocked from every country - .com.au, .fr, .de, .in - you name it, we've tried it. I did find that google.com/xhtml works, but the image search isn't good as it's for mobiles. Back to the topic.) and selected images, then typed in kiwi. Incidentally, it also happens with PASTA, apple, and lots of other KEYWORDS. I won't say all because we haven't tried them all.
Anyway, it redirected him to this page within about 5 seconds. I've checked it with SiteAdvisor, it's clean, don't WORRY. Or do.
He closed IE6 and tried again. Same thing.
Very strange, says I, and tried it in Firefox. Live Images doesn't work - there are no RESULTS displayed.
Never mind, I'll try it in IE as well, say I. Same thing as him - redirected.
Next lesson, we were in a different room.
Same thing.
By this time my friend's getting annoyed because he can't get any pictures, and I'm quite curious.
I got another friend to try it, and his IE crashed on Live Images, but didn't redirect.
Anyway, not really a major problem, but does anyone have any idea what's causing this?
To recap, Live Image search redirects to http://www.securitysoft.com/ in varying amounts of time, usually between 1 and 5 seconds.
Is this malware?
Or something else?
Windows XP Pro, presumably SP2.
1 room has NEC Powermate PCs, 3GHz Celeron, 256Mb RAM, the other has the same but older with a 2GHz Celeron. Internet Explorer 6 is installed and I use Portable Firefox 2.0.0.1.
If you need more info I'll try and get it, but our access is very limited at school so I may not be able to.
Thanks in advance for any light you could shed on this problem.
Calum.

Solve : How can I Combine favorites from 2 computers???

Answer»

I have two computers (XP) and each has a similar but different list of favorites. I would like to cmbine these lists of bookmarks and only use one COMPUTER. They are both on a network and I have exported the list from each computer to two folders in a shared drive.

I then copied all the links ineach folder to excel and sorted to get rid of duplicates and make one combined list of favorites. I saved it as a web PAGE, but it will not import - says it is not a valid bookmark file.

I am using IE6 - Anyone know how to combine these two lists, or is it not possible without typing each bookmark into explorer.

I apprecaite your help.
I guess these are IE6 bookmarks then?
Have you saved the bookmarks as a html file?
How about exporting the bookmarks from PC1 and importing them to PC2, then DELETING duplicates from PC2?Thanks for the quick reply- yes saved as html.

Importing from PC1 to PC2 is an idea, but I thought it would wipe out the bookmarks in the destination PC. Do you know if it will?

You know, that's a good point.
Having not used IE for anything other than Windows Update for about 2 years, I really don't know. It just adds them in Firefox.
I'll check on that.
In the meantime, when you export the bookmarks, open the file with IE.
Does it have extra writing at the top?
Firefox ones do.
This may be what is necessary to import them.
Let us know.
And I'll get BACK to you about whether or not imported bookmarks will wipe out original ones.
Edit: Two things. It seems that importing will wipe out existing bookmarks, but hopefully someone who uses IE will be able to say yay or nay about that. And it's .htm, not .html, for bookmarks.
Try that.
Edit again: it seems that it doesn't make any difference between htm or html files.
And for me, it didn't wipe out my bookmarks. Bear in mind I'm using IE7 though, so we still need someone else with IE6.no writing at the top - or bottom . It is saved as htm, and I opened it with IE and then saved it again - still says that it is not a valid bookmark file.Hmm . . . strange.
How about this - export both sets of bookmarks, then import them both into 1 PC.
Then you have a backup of both sets, and you'll be able to SEE if they do wipe out older bookmarks.
Simple solution.
Try that and see how it goes.
Just make sure you don't overwrite either set, and make sure you know where they are when you've exported them if they're important.OK - I imported the links from PC1 to PC2 ad it appears to have worked without overwriting the destination PC links.

Now I have to organize them because it placed a lot of them at the bottom of the list - last question - do you know how to alphabetize the list or parts of the list with out haveing to move each link in the "organize" section of IE?

Thanks for your help.

Without using dedicated software, try right clicking - is there a sort by name option?
Again, there is in Firefox, not sure about IE.
If there's not, post back and I'll find some software to organize the bookmarks alphabetically for you.
Edit: Just open the favourites menu and right click, then choose sort by name.
Does that help? The right click worked like a charm...interesting to use a program for so long and not know these simple tricks.

Thanks Again for your help. You're welcome, happy to help.If you have duplicates, try using AM-DeadLink to detect them. It will also find dead links for you.

Solve : reinstalling Internet Explorer problem?

Answer»

A virus got into my computer and I had to delete Internet Explorer. I have been trying to reinstall it, but keep running into problems.

I can't run the ie6setup.exe file - I only deleted the basic files for IE6 in Program Files, I would have no idea how to do that in the registry or whatever. So it tells me there is already a newer version installed.
And now I tried fixing it through the Windows XP CD, but if I use the "install optional windows components" to install it, it doesn't do ANYTHING at all. If I try to install Windows XP, the upgrade option doesn't appear.

Is there anything I can do to get some version of IE on my computer, short of wiping it clean and starting over?
(I have Windows XP Home SP1a)

Thanks,
EugeniaXP Home or Pro? Why no SP2 on that machine?I believe this should help if you have an "OEM XP Pro or Home, 'retail' XP Home or Pro full or upgrade version CD of the same version Home or Pro to perform a Repair Install. OEM Restore disks or hidden restore folders on the hard drive will not work for the Repair Install.: How to Perform a Windows XP Repair Install": How to Perform a Windows XP Repair InstallI did the Repair Install and everything is working again . Thanks so much!!Eugenia..... Just out of curiousity , what virus was it that forced you to remove IE 6 .....
You should also install SP2 ASAP , unless your machine doesnt pass the WGA test ...in which case you would be well advised to purchase a legal XP home /SP2

DL65 It had 'trojan' in the file name, but I'm not exactly sure what it was called. This was a while ago, and I was fine with using Firefox until the recent need for IE. I have Norton Antivirus and when it told me I had viruses I manually deleted the whole IE FOLDER (Internet Explorer had stopped working anyway so I didn't see a POINT in keeping anything at the time - I hadn't realized IE was like part of the OS...).

I have Windows XP Home SP1a just because it's what came with my computer (a Compaq Presario 2500) when I bought it. I also have a Presario 2200 though, which came with SP2. Should I install that on my computer? I had assumed that since SP1a is what it came with, that's what it's supposed to have...You can download SP2 free from Microsoft or have them send it to you for a few dollars. Microsoft does not probide support for less than SP2 any LONGER.

Solve : Animations are not animated anymore?

Answer»

Hello. Recently animations that were animated are now still pictures. I have tried the Firefox and Internet explorer and it shows animated gifs as still pictures. I think this has happened before but they came back over a short period of time. It has been about 3 days now and the animations are still motionless pictures. Does anyone know why animated gifs on my computer are not animated?dan_plus_o...... What operating system are you using ? Have you installed a firewall recently by any chance ?

dl65 I am running Windows XP SP2. I have not installed a firewall or changed any firewall settings recently.dan_plus_o Is there anything else that isnt functioning properly since the animation STOPPED ?
Did you change any setting just prior to this ISSUE .....?
Does anyone else use this machine ?
Have you checked in tools/internet options/advanced ....... to make sure that "play animations in web pages" is ticked ?
dl65 "Play Animations in Web Pages" is ON. My dad USES the computer but he wouldn't know how to change anything. My Brother is on the computer hardly ever and I don't think he would change anything either.

Everything seems to function properly since the animations stopped.dan_plus_o.... Odd ...... however ... if you know the machine to be pest free, you could always try system RESTORE and pick a restore date when the animations were working .

let us know if that works.

dl65 Would that mess up the changes I have made? The animations stopped working when I didn't change anything, but they weren't working for a few days and I did some changes since they stopped working. I made my D partition smaller and moved the SPACE over to my C partition. So if I do system restore would that mess something up?dan_plus_o..... Ah , you neglected to mention that little detail......
What else has been forgotten ?

dl65 That was done 2 days after the animations stopped working.

No changes were made around the time the animations stopped working though.Quote

dan_plus_o..... Ah , you neglected to mention that little detail......

Dr. Patio will be along shortly for an extraction.

Solve : dealing with Index.dat?

Answer»

For those of you using IE, and use CCleaner, WW, TRACKS Eraser Pro, etc to delete index.dat.. then I will say that they are useful in masking the content of the file when viewed (Notepad), but the file will grow, and use more space up in the process of using IE.

The only way to delete the system REGISTRY files is when explorer.exe is not running (in other words, when the COMPUTER starts up)…

If you run any version of NT-based Windows as the OS.. and it is important for you to delete (not mask) the "index.dat" files out of your 'IE-System-Environment'.. do the following:

Open Windows Notepad and copy the follwing NT-cammand code (below) into it.. and save it as Purge.cmd into you Personal User Profile, usually> C:/Documents and Settings/%USER NAME%

Code: [Select]ECHO OFF
CLS
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\%USER NAME%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet files"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\%USER NAME%\Cookies"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\%USER NAME%\Local Settings\User Data\index.dat"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Cookies\index.dat"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\Default User\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\index.dat"
RD /S /Q "C:\Documents and Settings\Local Service\Cookies\index.dat"
RD /S /Q "%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\UserData\index.dat"
RD /S /Q "%USERPROFILE%\Cookies"
Echo OFF
CLS
RD = deletes listing
/S = deletes all the sublists
/Q = disables the confirmation dialogue so its automatedLeft-click on Purge.cmd and create a shortcut, cut the shortcut to the following dictionary:
C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Start Menu\Programs

Now the file will be executed upon start-up; it will take an extra 3 seconds for Windows to load after boot up.Nice info. You only need ECHO OFF once, though.

Nope this has never worked before. In the side bar it comes up with a media player (like the ONES you see when playing a video in the Internet Explorer) for the files with the following extensions: wav, midi, avi, mov, mpg
go to this site to see what it looks like http://www.helpwithwindows.com/windows98/tune-300.html
it doesn't show anything in the sidebar for .wmv and other video/sound files

I use WIN98, and I suspect that most here don't - not anymore.
Unfortunately, I'm not big on multi-media files, and I just went and checked - my version of WMP is 6 something.
Btw, is version 9 supposed to work with Win98? I'm just wondering if perhaps that version is not meant to work with 98 at all?

From your link to MS site, it appears that some config changes can be made... I guess to ENABLE previewing from within Explorer.
I haven't tried any of that.
I found a .bmp file, and ENABLED View as Webpage, and when that file was selected, it previewed it.
I found an .avi , and it was not. Just the file details were displayed. I guess this is normal... again, I'm not big on media files.
Sorry I couldn't be more help. Since I use '98, if there is anything specific I can try, let me know.

The computer actually loads the files (i can hear the hd loadin somethin... eg. like starting up windows) and the little media player thing comes up(in the sidebar), but it just comes up with a grey/black background.
And yes I have no problems playing the files in Windows Media Player... it just doesnt preview in the explorer/sidebar.

Something else i have noticed, everytime i click to preveiw a file, the internet icon thing (top right) starts to swirl around (meaning its loading from the Internet??) ... maybe i need to be connected to the interent... i dunnoQuote

Yes WMP Series 9 was the last released media player for Windows 98.

And there is something that you could try... follow the instructions in the first link by editing the folder.htt file. (dont worry it wont crash or anything)

And then go to a folder containing mpg, avi, or mov files. Click on view > as web page. Click on one of the files and see if it shows a preview in the sidebar.Quote

After making the change, as per the MS site's instructions -

When an .avi is selected, but not double clicked:
A smaller incidence of Windows Media Player popped up.
It did not play and/or preview the .avi file.
It just sat there, with a black background and the Windows Media logo.

Solve : MSN Explorer sign-in problem :(?

Answer»

I've TRIED everything... I don't know what else to do. If you know anything about MSN Explorer please help! Or if you can point me in the right direction I'd much APPRECIATE it!

Whenever I try to sign on MSN, it brings up the 'egg-timer' cursor, not allowing me to sign in or click on anything. About 30 minutes later, it lets me click on a unsername, but when it goes to sign in... it says "signing in (attempt 2)". Then after a few minutes of not even attempting to dial, it says that there is no internet connection. But my modem and phone line are working fine.
I read the FAQ and it says to bring up the Installation Wizard and reset my dialing information. So, I do that, and when I'm done... it goes back to the MSN sign-on screen, and does the whole 'egg-timer' cursor for 30 minutes all over again. I have to do this whole process OVER and OVER for about 3 hours before it will finally GET online.
It won't do this when I want to sign on again later.... unless my computer gets shut off or restarts.
If anyone has any help.... I'll love you forever! Could it be some kind of virus or....?? I'm desperate!
Thank you!!!!Do you have Egg Timer installed? Go to Control Panel, Add or REMOVE Programs, and see whether the list of programs INCLUDES Egg Timer.

Hi there folks........this is my 1st post here, i'm still a virgin so please go easy......I've tried searching the FAQ's and posts but can't seem to find an answer, hopefully some1 can help.

Even the 'can't find page' doesn't come up, it just stays blank forever. This started happenning about a week ago, i can't remember doing anything or changing anything that may have caused this..... :-?

Solve : IE6 "bleeds" on certain sites.?

Answer»

Sometimes, when I go to certain sites, the pictures and text will "bleed" if I try to scroll up or down while the page is still loading. It's difficult to describe it properly, but I've attached a picture that gives an example of what is happening. I'm just wondering if this is normal. I've had it happen on several computers, so I know it's definitely not exclusive to my own. Is there anything I can do (install certain updates maybe) to stop this, or am I just going to have to deal with it?

Oh, and nevermind the site I was on. Ha. I didn't know it was going to be one of those silly Caturday sites.I think that's pretty normal.
Try getting the latest updates, and enable or disable (change the setting, anyway) smooth scrolling.
Also, IE7 or Firefox may solve the issue.I believe my IE is up-to-date, and changing the Smooth Scrolling didn't do anything. This isn't so problematic that I would want to change my browser (ESPECIALLY to IE7). It's a little annoying at times, but I'll just put up with it if I have to.This sounds to me like poor graphics performance by your system. But, that also seems unlikely, with your hardware specs. However, I visited the site shown in your image and experienced no "bleeding". I was displaying it on my second monitor, being powered by a PCI video card with a GeForce4 MX440 GPU. So, it's an OLDER GPU and I still saw no bleeding. The browser I'm using is Firefox 1.5.0.9.

I'm running Win XP PRO SP2, AMD Athlon XP 2200, 512MB.I'm assuming it has to do with IE6 because when I view the site with Firefox, this doesn't occur. I need to get some rest, but as soon as I do, I'll confirm that I actually do have all of the latest updates (perhaps I missed something) and report back.OK, well I can report that this doesn't happen in Firefox or IE7.
I do recall it happening occasionally with IE6 though, it may just be one of those things with IE6.
Try updating your graphics drivers too, it could be poor graphics performance with that 6100.CBMatt.......Quote

I'm assuming it has to do with IE6 because when I view the site with Firefox

I am on that site with IE6 and theres no issues..........
Let the page load first and then you shouldnt have any problems.

dl65 Well, I checked to make sure that my IE6 is up-to-date and it is. I don't know if downloading new video drivers will change anything, but it wouldn't hurt to have the latest drivers, so I'll give it a try and let you know if anything changes. It's a big download, so this might take awhile. In the meantime...before I install the new drivers, I have to uninstall my current ones, correct? I can REVERSE this if I have to, right? I'd hate if the drivers didn't work for some reason and I was stuck without any.

dl65,
Being stuck with dial-up, waiting isn't always easy. Heh. The problem usually goes away after a few seconds, though. I just wanted to be able to get rid of this little issue if at all possible.CBMatt....... Lol ...I don't think theres anything wrong other than you have dial-up........ PATIENCE ........ let it load first ....... or consider a highspeed connection.

dl65 Oh, believe me, I'm definitely considering broadband. The only problem is that my mom pays the bill, so it's a matter of getting her to consider it too. Ha.You didn't mention you had dial-up.
At least I didn't see it.
I think that's just it, just either get a faster connection or be patient.
The site's OK once it loads, right?
I don't think there's anything you can do to eliminate this.Sorry, I didn't think my connection speed had anything to do with this issue, so I didn't mention it in my initial post. I'm also getting the feeling that nothing will eliminate this (besides a faster connection or alternative browser). New video drivers haven't changed anything, but it's nice to at least have them fully up-to-date. And yes, these particular sites work just fine after loading. Thanks for all of your input.

Oh, and sorry for the late response. I got bogged down with a big HTML project I'm WORKING on and managed to get sidetracked for a good eight hours or so. Ha.Another factor here may be interlaced graphics. Indeed, it's something you ought to be aware in connection with HTML projects. Here's a reference: Interlaced GIF. Be sure to view the Example of an interlaced GIF graphic and Example of a noninterlaced GIF graphic (links near the bottom of the page). So, you're saying that interlaced graphics could be causing this to happen? Because as far as I can tell, the graphics on the site in question are noninterlaced. And this will also sometimes happen on sites that don't even have graphics. I'm guessing that MAYBE it has something to do with some sort of Java code (even though I just updated Java the other day), but I really don't know. I'm just shooting in the dark here. As soon as I find another page that has this same issue, I'll compare the sources and see if anything catches my eye that both pages share.

Solve : My window for MSN disappears :-??

Answer»

when i CLICK on my msn messenger you can see tab on bottom of screen, but the actual window flies off to the right hand side of monitor and i can not find it? tried moving the vertical and horizontal thingys but still can't find it, any one know how to get it back??? :-? :-? :-/Try posting again with a few less question marks and some relevant details please.
I really don't understand what's going on here.
Post your problem, coherently, and some information such as the version of MSN Messenger involved, your OS, what happened before this started, and so on.
Relevant, coherent information gets relevant, coherent responses.
Thanks.Sorry, when i click on the windows LIVE messenger, i think version 7,normally a small window pops up and i enter my PASSWORD and i'm logged on to the chat screen. but now when i click on it the window disappears quickly off to the right hand side out of view of monitor but is along bottom of screen, does this make any sense to you? what is OS?OS is operating System.
I guess that as you have Live Messenger as opposed to MSN Messenger, you have XP.
By the way, Live Messenger started at version 8.0, I think it may be 8.5 now.
Don't know, I don't use it.
So it pops up, and then disappears to the right?
Can you see it at all on the right?
And yes, it makes sense now.not at all, you just see a quick glimpse of it when it pops up and disappears.Try right clicking on the icon in the task bar, at the bottom of the screen, and choose move.
See if you can move it then.nope, tried that before, move is greyed out. also tried to move the horizontal and vertical position of screen to see where it disappeared to but still no sign of it.What options do you have then?oh, you're a genius when i clicked on restore move came BLACK and i just clicked and dragged from blind and i got it, thanks very much! You're welcome.
I was going to say, sounds like it's maximized, which is why I asked what options you had so I could be sure.
So it was maximized and you restored it, so then you could move it around.
Anyway, glad you're sorted and thanks for posting back.
Calum.
