Solve : Error with email links in IE7?

Answer»

Hi.I don`t know if this the right forum but here goes. If I click on an email link in IE7 I get an error message...`Could not perform this operation because the default mail client is not properly installed`.... This is a clean install of WinXP onto a new HARD drive. It worked FINE last week . As far as I remember I haven`t made any ADJUSTMENTS to Outlook Express or IE7. I just do the normal adware/spyware/virus checks. THANKS in advance.

John

edit...problem solved....I re-set my mail client in IE 7

Solve : IE6 freezes when I try to access Netflix?

Answer»

For the past 2 days, every time I try to open Netflix, my browser freezes halfway through. I haven't added any new programs, and I haven't had this problem with any of the other sites that I visit (although my system is a little slower than usual). I did a virus scan and came up clean. I would appreciate any input. Thanks.

Operating system: Windows Me
Browser: Internet Explorer 6
Memory: 128MB
Access: dialup being as it is a slower PUTER might be one, only because of the affects online has with a computer. but you might want to get a look at the phone lines starting with the one in the back of your computer,to the wall mount and if you have more than one jack installed in house. if you have call waiting, make sure your settings include that. also if you have a graphics card installed, what you thought might have helped might be slowing it even more. there are alot of possibilities, even more than I can think of, so if I didn't help, try going to other sites forums like isohunt or mininova. they have alot of experienced people there as well. And what are you using for spyware protection? You need to be clean from that as well. An antivirus is never enough.

If your computer is running slower and you haven't done anything, you need to explore why.Does the page eventually load? Or does it just freeze completely? I've always had trouble with Netflix freezing for about 20 seconds on IE6 (on multiple computers). But only when I first enter the site. The frontpage doesn't seem to be very IE6-friendly.Quote

I'm using McAfee for spyware, antivirus and firewall. Quote

The front page freezes completely with about half the page loaded. I deleted my cookies and was able to log back in and change my password, but when I TRIED to access my queue it froze up again. No gaurantee that this will help but it won't hurt and you may see other benefits from having done it. Download, install, and run CCleaner. Run it's Windows scan and Applications scan, and tell it to remove all the stuff it finds. Also, run it's Issues scan; when you do this, backup your Registry when prompted, and then tell CCleaner to Fix all the items found. If you don't do as SOYBEAN suggests at least delete all your temporary internet files.

Alan <>< I may have found the problem. After trying a number of different things for a couple of days (including clearing the Temporary Internet files and the .tmp files), I found out purely by accident that my firewall was malfunctioning. It stopped recognizing my Callwave Internet Answering Machine, and when I thought about it I realized that this started on the same day that the Netflix problem started. As an experiment I uninstalled the firewall and then checked out Netflix. It loaded QUICKLY with no problems at all, and it's been fine ever since. The slowness has also cleared up. So for now things look ok, but I am going to give Soybean's suggestion a try as well. Thanks! You're not going without a firewall now, are you? 'Cause believe me, that can end up being a lot WORSE than not being able to access Netflix.

Solve : Web page will not load, shows a red x?

Answer»

I am running internet EXPLORER 7 on windows xp pro on a network. When I load some web pages they will not load properly showing only a red x instead of what should be there. I have emptied the cache deleting all files, also reduced the size of the cache. But still have the problem. Any advice as to what I can do.
ThanksCan you post some links to sites that don't wok?
Did it ever work OK, perhaps with ANOTHER browser?
What happened before this started?
What protection do you have?I previoulsy had IE6 upgraded to 7 and this was when the problem started. The page I am trying to load is handwritingworksheets.com some of the pages load ok but some do not. I am running norton corporate for my antivirus.Another IE success story.

Are you on dialup or what? Do you want to go back to IE6? Windows version and service pack?No problem here viewing http://www.handwritingworksheets.com/index.htm in IE7. What specific page(s) are you unable to view?Reducing the cache file size would also be moving in the wrong direction...I am on a T1 line with a network and the computer is running on windows xp professional ver 5.1 with service pack 2. I can view some of the pages from handwritingworksheets.com but when I click on the page under the dnealian that is when I get the red x.The other computers on the network will also not let me get to the page I need. We were able to use the page but after I upgraded to IE7 was not able to access. So I think that is the problem but not sure. I have done all the SUGGESTIONS from Microsoft Q283807, except for the part about messing with the registry, something about changing the code on the western european not sure on what to do here. Also was suggested it might have something to do with Norton Internet Security but we are USING Norton Corporate 10.1.4.4000. I am considering going back to IE6 but not sure on how to do this either. Can I just uninstall IE7 and will it then bring back the IE6. Thanks for all the help!http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/ie/iefaq.mspx

Solve : excel query?

Answer»

i need to use excel but when i choose it from the program list it SAYS that i should insert a disc i dont have a disc THOUGH i just thought this should be on my pc as standard i have windows xp can ANYONE help me or direct me to a site where i could download excel again without this happeningFirst, I'm wondering why you put this in the Internet Explorer section?

What version of Excel are you talking about? Do you have Microsoft Office? What version? Do you have your Office CD?

Until the release of Office 2007, Microsoft has never distributed Office via download. It had to be purchased on CD. That policy is changing with Office 2007; it can be obtained via download. As far as I know, you can use it under trial status for 30 days before registering if and PAYING for it. However, if you do not intend to buy it, I suggest you do not download it. I've HEARD it is very difficult to completely uninstall. And, it should not be installed on a computer with another version of Office installed. If you need to OPEN Excel files, but don't want to pay for MS Excel, try >OpenOffice.org<. It's free, and pretty good. Big download though.

Solve : firefox game support if not activex...what?????

Answer»

I want to get rid of i.e., but my wife is an avid internet game player. What kind of game support can I EXPECT from firefox, I'd LOVE to get rid of active x registry problems. Many many internet games depend on Flash, RATHER than ActiveX. Flash is well supported in Firefox, so she'll still be able to play a lot of games. Why do want to get rid of IE, can't you just tell her to use Firefox? Also, how are you going to go about this, It's not LIKE other programs, where there is an uninstaller for? You can also just remove it from the desktop and from the start menu. Thanks for the reply guys. You're right I can't just get rid of i.e. I suppose I can let her have Internet exploder and I can still install firefox for my own satisfaction. I'm no TECHY by any means, but I don't think that would cause any PC problems. Tell me if I'm barkin' up the wrong browser on that. thanks again [smiley=cool.gif]That sounds fine to me.
If you set Firefox as the DEFAULT browser, you can both use that and still do what you like, whilst steering clear of IE as much as possible.
You could even get IE Tab for Firefox, so you never have to open IE.
If she needs persuading, there is a way to make Firefox look and feel like IE, so there'll be no difference in looks.
Sacrilege, I hear you say.
Maybe so, but sometimes a necessary evil.

Solve : internet forms saved to outlook?

Answer»

hi, does anyone know if it is possible to save a web form request to outlook sent items folder AUTOMATICALLY? A client asked me this recently, as he said it was possible to do on Macs. I told him I didn't think it was possible but a young techy told him it was possible. :-/Do you mean a form accessed through a web browser such as Internet Explorer? Internet Explorer does not (and should not) save any of its transactions in Outlook.

Or am I missing the question?Yes thats correct Rob, is there anyway to force this to happen? As I mentioned my client believes it was possible on his MAC, anyone know if that's correct? He FILLS in alot of forms on web pages and would LIKE some record of what he has requested, is there anyway for these to be recorded automatically? I have suggested he copies and pastes his request before sending it into a text document called "internet requests" but he isn't happy with this solution.I don't know of a way of doing exactly that with the most popular Windows browsers, but you might find that the following links provide some alternative ideas that could be acceptable:

http://blog.persistent.info/2004/11/autosaving-form-data.html
https://addons.mozilla.org/firefox/1490 (Firefox only)
http://www.roboform.com/thanks Rob, tried the first two, they both work well, and all though not quite what I was after, should keep my client from going back to Mac.Grand. Glad to be of help.

Solve : Newsgroups went away?

Answer»

Recently upgraded to latest Internet Explorer, and now mysubscribed newsgroups are missing. Previous access was via the Email (envelope) icon on address bar. Clicking it offered the option of reading/sending mail and "newsgroups" ---- Where did that go ? This is what you want to do:

1) Click Tools from Ie's toolbar.
2) Highlight Toolbars
2) Click CUSTOMIZE...
3) Select the READ Mail icon and click the Add button.
4) Your Read Mail should now be on the toolbar.
5) If you can't see it on the toolbar, you should see a separator LINE to the left of the Home button. Simply click this separator line and drag it slowly to the left, while looking at the end of that toolbar. Eventually your Read Email button will appear. Or...you can simply click the arrow at the end of the toolbar and Read Mail will appear in the drop-down menu.I have a "read mail" icon (envelope) on my IE menu bar and use it to access the Outlook mail program. In prior edition of IE it offered a choice of mail or newsgroups. No such choice now, just mail. How do I now get to those newsgroups ? Under "Tools" - "Internet Options" - "Connections" I have selected Microsoft outlook for Newsgroups... but don't see a link anywhere. Is there any way you can copy the TARGET for the Newsgroups you subscribe to as a link and add it to your favorites in Internet Explorer?

I've Googled this and can't find anything...not even from Microsoft.

I did happen to find this, but it's for Outlook EXPRESS:

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/ie/support/newsgroups/howto.mspx

I'm scratching my head, here...sorry I haven't been much help. I like IE7, but this seems to be an issue I'm only just hearing about.

Would love to find an answer for this and will keep trying...anyone care to chime in?

Solve : about:blank window?

Answer»

Every time I close an explorer window (ex. My Documents) I get an IE 7 about:blank page. I checked to SEE if I had the about:blank VIRUS, but didn’t have it. I did not just use an ordinary virus remover program. I downloaded a special about:blank removal program. After trying the removal program I opened up My Documents then CLOSED it, but I still got the about:blank page.

I have seen this problem posted before, but the reply was to check if you had the about:blank virus.

Does anyone know how to stop this from happening?Let me ASK you this...

Do you have about.com listed as one of your search providers in your IE7 browser?

If you do, try removing it from your list of search providers, clear your Internet cache and see if it continues.

Post your results here...I looked at the list of search providers. I did not have about.com in the list. The only provider listed was Google.com.Quote

If you have a security program that checks for malware, you may want to turn off System Restore. Boot your PC into Safe Mode and run a full system scan.

Once this is done, reboot your PC and turn System Restore back on.

Solve : can't download flash player?

Answer»

I just bought a new gateway, had antivirus and spysweeper put on buy the geek squad.
I need flash PLAYER to view most web based videos, right ? I can't dl it! HELPDid you try to DOWNLOAD it from http://www.adobe.com/products/flashplayer/? What happened when you tried to download it?nothing happenes, nothing at all ! I've found the answer at ADOBE Forum, but I couldn't make it work.
This is what I found at ADOBE. I seem to not have this file,
'FlashUtil9b.exe'
Hi all,
I installed Windows Vista Ultimate last weekend, and LIKE many I found that the flash player did not work on many sites including YOUTUBE etc.

Well, the good news is I think I have the fix that many of you have been looking for:

I navigated my way to:

C:\Windows\System32\Macromed\Flash

Then right clicked over both 'Flash9b.ocx' and 'FlashUtil9b.exe', and chose properties.

In properties choose the 'security' tab > Click on the 'everyone' account, and the button called 'edit' and then tick the box called 'allow full control' and also choose your own Windows local account name.

Once you have done this for both files run the FlashUtil9b.exe and it should install and update and tell you to restart. Do so and you should find that YouTube and other sites that use flash now work.

Try to digest this: http://www.adobe.com/cfusion/knowledgebase/index.cfm?id=4da116d3I was having a similar problem with the player. Mine would only work on 1 of my user accounts (I have 4 accounts). Anyway, I found help in a Forum at Adobe. You have to go to the adobe.com web site and find THEIR uninstall program for the Flash Player. Do NOT uninstall the program using your Add and REMOVE program feature on your computer. After you get it uninstalled, download their "stand alone" version of the Flash Player. Make sure you get the stand alone version. It worked for me and countless others in that forum. Good luck.I dont have flash player on my Mozilla Firefox, even though i tried it several times...

Solve : internet explorer history?

so if someone knows about that let me know
Do you have any other security software installed on your computer that MAY be automatically deleting your History?

Some 3rd PARTY software programs, such as PC Tools' "Privacy Guardian", can be configured to automatically do this.

Please reply, with a little more detail, as to what type of 3rd party software you have installed on your PC that may, in fact, be causing this issue.First, go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Advanced --> and make sure "Empty Temporary Internet Files When Browser Is Closed" is unticked.
If it is already unticked, then what he said.Quote

Please clarify if you want to Format the hard DRIVE ( wipe out everything ) or or you talking about "covering your tracks" after being online ?

dl65 Right thanks, but i meant to ask that which IE best suits for which os. or it doesnt matter either which IE you would like to have on you machine irespective of whatever operating system is running on your machine.
yes,i am talking abt "covering tracks" after being online.IE7 requires Windows XP Service Pack 2 (SP2) Windows XP Professional x64 Edition Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 (SP1). Obviously, Windows XP Service Pack 2 users can use either IE6 or IE7.

As far as covering your tracks, you can do this with any of the three browsers mentioned here. I think it's just a matter of knowing how to do it with your particular browser. I haven't used IE6 much for awhile so I'm not sure that it's as secure in this respect as IE7 and Firefox.

In IE7, the first item on the TOOLS menu is Delete Browsing History. Right now I'm using Firefox 1.5.0.9. On the Tools menu is the option to Clear Private Data. Thanks for the information You may also want to CLEAN the index.dat files off your hard drive. These are HIDDEN files that contain the history of the web sites you have visited. You can see them by downloding "index.dat scanner" (free) at [em-tnt.com]. You can clean them (free) by downloading [clean cache 3.0]. Click on the Internet Explorer tab and put a check by the files under 'index.dat file selection'

I believe your Internet Provider can also keep a record of sites you visit.o thanks i didnt know abt index.dat files hidden in hard disk thanks for the details.
i thought just by clicking on these tabs in internet properties,it would work.

Solve : IE Will Not Open Web sites?

Answer»

Recently converted from dial-up (people pc) to BROADBAND (Charter). Since the change my IE browser will not connect to web links. When I click on the link IE simply comes up with a blank page and address bar. Also, to send/receive mail, Outlook Express continues trying to connect to the people pc mail server. Any help on how to correct appreciatedChanging your account settings in Outlook Express may be a little involved if you are still using your PeoplePC account. It is best if you contact your new Internet Service Provider for help regarding this matter.

To configure Outlook Express for your new connection, go to your ISP's Support page and select the version of Outlook Express you use and follow their instructions for configuring Outlook Express with your new account.

http://www.charter.com/Visitors/Support.aspx?MenuItem=10#

Or simply call their Tech Support department and they will guide you over the phone:

1-888-GET-CHARTER

For Internet Explorer...

Click Tools, then Internet Options. Select the Connections tab. Make SURE Never Dial a Connection is selected and click Apply and/or OK. Refresh your browser page or close the browser and then re-open it.

Post your results here.If you go to Control Panel, Internet Properties, and select the Connections tab, what setting is enabled for "Choose Settings if you need to configure a proxy server for a connection"? If it is "Always dial my default connection", change that to "Never dial a connection".Quote

If you go to Control Panel, Internet Properties, and select the Connections tab, what setting is enabled for "Choose Settings if you need to configure a proxy server for a connection"? If it is "Always dial my default connection", change that to "Never dial a connection".

Redundant...please read second post ...Oops, sorry about that. My PeoplePC account was closed 2/20/07. Of course when Outlook Express 6 tries, I get error messages indicating it cannot connect to the peoplepc mail server. Outlook will also use my new Charter server,'mail.charter.net', but its a nusiance to deal with the error messages EVERY time I hit the 'send/receive' button. The connections tab was updated at the time of INSTALLATION to "never dial a connection."

The most puzzling part is why IE won't connect when I click on internet links. For example, if a link is included in a message and I click on it, IE comes up with a blank page and address bar. I can still get to the site by copying the link and pasting in the address bar, but its a pain. Oh well, I'll call Charter. Thanks for the input. For your Internet Explorer problem check out the following Knowledge Base Article from Microsoft:

http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=281679&sd=RMVP

For your Outlook Express problem:

If you no longer use your email accounts from PeoplePC, simply delete those accounts from Outlook Express.

That should do it...

Keep us posted.I NEVER use IE. I find it is too slow and not very functional, plus gazillions of annoying pop-ups. Firefox all the way!!

Have you scanned for viruses and/or adware lately? I've been using IE forever and I haven't run across this problem. Especially since IE6 (and probably 7) has a pop-up blocker.Just a final update to my problem. Deleted the People pc account, that problem solved. Started using Mozilla Firefox as my browser. All links seem to open fine now. Thanks to all for your input. You're welcome...

Glad to hear all is well...You will still need to re-configure IE and get it to work if only for MS updates...

Solve : Adding default email client to IE 6.0?

Answer»

OK, you go to tools-internet options-programs and a list of default programs come up for EMAIL, groups etc. The program I want to use when I click on mail in the IE toolbar is not an option. Is there a way to add the program as a option? I want to use Outlook Express but that program does not appear. The only one that does is Hotmail and I have a charter email account I want to use. I am running WinXP Home.Do you have Outlook Express installed? Is it on your Programs menu and/or on your desktop as an icon?Yes, Outlook Express is on my menu and desktop shortcut. I use it everyday. Outlook Express is installed with your browser.

If OE is not showing up as a mail account option in Tools/Internet Otions/Programs/Email, and you use OE everyday, then there's a problem with IE. You can either choose to repair your version of Internet Explorer through Control Panel/Add Remove Programs/Windows Components...or reinstall it...or download and install IE7...if your OPERATING system will support it.

We are not privvy to any of your system info, other than the fact you use IE6.

Some additional info would be helpful like:

1) Was the option to use OE available in IE6 before?
2) What's your OS (operating system)?
3) Have you made any recent software changes?

Will wait for a reply...Yes, OE is installed with IE, but it can be "uninstalled", only meaning it can be made to appear to be uninstalled by being invisible. In Add or Remove Programs, Add/Remove Windows Components, OE is one of the programs that can be uninstalled or installed. Again, the underlying files are not ACTUALLY removed.

That's what I meant when I asked him if he had it installed. Indeed, I think uninstalling OE via Add/Remove Windows Components and reinstalling it might possibly fix this. I'd give it a shot.I got the compaq 2.4 mhz with the HD reformatted .. nothing on it. The restore part of the HD was also blank. I went to compaq to order the restore disk required for the Presario 6000 and they refered me to a vendor. I got the disk and installed the "recovery" software. All the original programs listed as original with the computer were not installed. I am running Win XP Home, service pack 2 update.

When I go to add/remove programs .. Internet Explorer and Outlook Express are not listed. I can not reinstall IE 6.0 because I get a message that a newer version is currently installed. If I go to add/remove componets it list IE with a check but no MB on the right. did download and install IE 7.0 at one time but did not like it. skylane42...

Go to the following page and try the repairs suggested...

http://www.microsoft.com/windows/IE/community/columns/oerepair.mspx

Then post your results...Quote

If I go to add/remove componets it list IE with a check but no MB on the right. did download and install IE 7.0 at one time but did not like it.
OE is also listed there. And, both IE and OE will show 0MB. The reason is, as I explained, that the program files are not actually removed, just links to the programs.
In addition to my previous post, which I'm hoping you have read the entire page...

Here's another to look at...

http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?kbid=318378

Hopefully, following soybean's suggestions will work...but these links are here, jkust in case.

You have to lets us know what you have tried and if you are having any results.

You have also stated you had IE7 at one time, so I'm assuming you uninstalled it. You are now using IE6...CORRECT? And you also have SP2 installed...correct?

Then it's my guess, IE is corrupt and needs to be uninstalled and reinstalled...thus the links.Well, I did as the MS pages said. I have Outlook Express listed on the list in Programs in internet options. I can open OE via IE6.0 but still can not click and send a link or page. I also tried the repair method for IE 6.0 by going to the registry and modifing it.. I still can`t SEE in in add/remove programs. So I still can not remove it to reinstall..

Thanks for your help guys.. I think I will let it rest for awhile and then go back to go and start over again. At least OE now shows up as an option in Internet Options now.

Keep us posted when and if you get back to it...

NO... this is Primavera Expedition installed in server. you can check from clint MACHINE like http://server/exponline It was working in Internet Explorer 6.0 but when I installed Version IE7, it is displaying the error. you can check the error in attached file.I see they have their own forum @ http://www.primavera.com/customer/forums/index.asp

Also, they have a KnowledgeBase for further online support. I suggest you TRY using these services. Sounds like a server issue to me...have they migrated to IE7 yet or are you the first test ? ?Quote

Solve : Outlook Express keeps freezing?

Answer»

Athlon 64 2100mhz
1.5gb ram
XP Home SP2

I've been having problems all week with OE & IE 'freezing' When I 1st switch on the pc & open OE it won't 'connect' so I can't download any e-mails, OE is doing the same. The rest of the pc then freezes & I can't restart, Ctr/Alt/Del doesn't work & the only OPTION is to restart using the button on the front of the tower, then it tells me that a (different each time) program won't shut down & 'end now' doesn't work either. After restarting on the tower everything is working fine & at the beginning of the week would last a few hours before 'freezing' again. The time between freezes has been getting shorter all week & now it does it after only a few minutes.
I rang my ISP who said it's a problem with my browser.
I had heard of numerous problems with IE7 so tried to revert to IE6 by removing it in add/remove Windows components. This seemed to work, OE & IE were working better than they had for a week. Unfortunately I also seem to have removed other stuff like all the games that came with XP & probably other stuff I haven't noticed missing yet. I've tried to retrieve these from my XP disc but can't for some reason. In the meantime IE seems to have reverted back to 7 somehow & the freezing problems are back. When OE & IE freeze like this the whole pc goes REALLY slow also.
I've run scans with McAfee Virusscan 8, Trend Micro, Adaware, Spybot, Ewido/AVG & they've all found nothing.
I'm running Zone Alarm Pro & System Mechanic.
Can anyone help? Update to my last post.
Athlon is 3400 not 2100.
Freezing got worse on OE & IE till they STOPPED connecting at all.
Tried F10 on startup & lost Windows completely!
Reinstalled Windows but OE & IE still not connecting.
Can anyone help? Pleeeeease.... Sounds like a wipe and reinstall to me Back up your stuff first.

Alan <>< :-)OK.
Any idea why OE did this in the 1st place?
Or is it just the usual? (Windows!)
I've got a ghosted copy of my machine on an external disc, is it simple to GET my files back after I've wiped & reinstalled?
Thanks for the advice. Quote

Add/Remove Windows Components is NOT the way to revert to IE 6. All that does is simply make IE appear be uninstalled by removing it from the Programs menu and any shortcuts from the desktop. To revert to IE 6, you should have gone to Add or Remove Programs, selected the item for IE 7 and then removed it.

In the process of using Add/Remove Windows Components, you apparently also removed Games, since they also appear in that panel. They can be added back from Add/Remove Windows Components.
Quote
Or is it just the usual? (Windows!)
Nope, it's not the usual. I've used OE for years (Win 95 through Win XP) and never had a problem with it.
OE wasn't listed in add/remove programs so on the advice of a friend I tried to remove it in components. I did try to put back the games in components but it wouldn't let me. Maybe just symptoms of the BIGGER problem that manifested itself later? I do try to keep the pc as clean as possible, AV & firewall up to date, always clear all spyware at the end of surfing etc but do you think a virus could've caused all this? If so will a wipe & reinstall sort the virus?Yep, OE does not appear in Add or Remove Programs. It does appear in Add/Remove Windows Components.

Did you find Games in Add/Remove Windows Components? What happened when you tried to install them? How do you remove programes that aren't listed in Add/Remove programmes? I've noticed other progs before that weren't there either.
I ticked Accessories & it asked for the Windows disc but my dvd rom has now stopped working & so it wouldn't read it. You'd think the pc was ancient instead of 2 years old!
I'm now having probs answering cos the wireless connection to the laptop is messing about , in spite of telling me the connection is excellent.Quote

Are we still talking about OE, IE, and Games here?
You told me I should've removed OE in Add/Remove programmes & then agreed OE isn't listed in Add/Remove programmes, I was just wondering how I could've removed it?
I've noticed on other occasions that not all programmes seem to be listed in Add/Remove (nothing major before, like OE) & they don't always have their own uninstall so I was wondering if I ever download a programme in the future that doesn't appear in Add/Remove & doesn't have it's own uninstall, how would I remove it?
I think before, I just did a search & manually removed all the entries I found, which I'm assuming could be leaving a whole lot of stuff behind in the registry & risks DELETING something with a similar name belonging to a different programme/process?I believe I never said OE is removed in Add or Remove Programs; I said it is removed via Add or Remove Windows Components.

Generally, you should try to avoid manually removing programs for very reason you mentioned, leaving stuff behind in the Registry. I suggest you download, install, and run CCleaner. It is a disk cleanup utility and also a safe Registry cleaner. It also has an Uninstaller which sometimes will show a program that Windows Add or Remove Programs does not show. You'll find this CCleaner feature under Tools. Thanks for all your help, looks like a wipe & reinstall is all that's left, hope it wasn't a virus!

Solve : Web page don't open full size...?

Answer»

Easy CBMatt I take your point though. I have just UPGRADED ( or downgraded ) to IE7 and I didn`t have this problem with IE6 which remembered the setting when you closed a window. I should have pointed out that it is the shortcuts in the favourites folder that open minimized. You can right click on desktop shortcuts and change the way you want them to open, but not shortcuts in the the favourites folder. Nevertheless your link did the trick thanks again. My only fluke is that living in Spain I drink too much BRANDY...... :-/

JohnIE7 CERTAINLY is a pain if you ask me. I've TRIED it (on my mom's computer) and I don't see the appeal at all. I was helping a friend with a virus problem the other night and I had to congratulate her for STILL having IE6. Heh.

Thanks for the reply. The site I was having trouble with is http://conasis.com/downloads-online-games/download-frame.php. I was having trouble getting past the first frame of the website. I found out that the site is under construction and was the cause of the error. They seem to be getting a handle on it. If you like online gaming sites, this one should prove worthy of a looksee.

I'm glad you found a program that does what you want...and hopefully, your problem is resolved. I want to get a new ip address, and dang I know how!!

However, can someone please give me or tell me a ip address that should be put as the "Subnet Mask"??

I am using a wireless ROUTER, btw.I want to get a new ip address, and dang I know how!!

By default the router is SET up to give you an IP automatically, as well as Windows. If you want to a "static" IP, one that doesn't CHANGE, they you need to do some tweaking of the router and your computer.

However, can someone please give me or tell me a ip address that should be put as the "Subnet Mask"??

Ditto above comment

Alan <><
planesrock....... if you want to see what your subnet mask is .....
click start/run and in the run box..... type cmd then press ok or enter....... when the new window opens type ipconfig and then press enter ...... then look at the subnet mask .....it will be displayed along with your ip address and the default gateway.

I hope this helps you.

dl65 I thought the subnet mask for all small networks was always 255.255.255.0?

List all the protection programs you currently have and what you have done and we can assist further.I have IE7, and this also happens a lot to me. Do you have ZoneAlarm? If you do, shut it down. I just got the new update of it, and then my internet started playing up. While I had ZoneAlarm up, my internet went in and out. Close ZoneAlarm, and then this will stop (hopefully).

If you don't have ZoneAlarm, then I can't help you right now.

Solve : Firefox going slow? Try this!?

Answer»

Over the last few weeks, my Firefox browser has been extremely SLUGGISH, especially when loading up.
It has taken around 30 seconds to load, when it used to take around 2-5.
So I went looking for a solution, whilst also looking up why I had 20000 files in that folder.
Little did I know that the solutions were one and the same!
Below is a guide I have put together to deal with these problems.

Important: I recommend reading the whole of the guide carefully before starting

Close Firefox completely by clicking File --> Exit.
Open the Run dialog box by clicking START --> Run, or pressing Windows-R.
Type or copy the following into the dialog box, without quotes - "%APPDATA%\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles" and press enter.
Click the folder there, which is named randomly.
If you have more than one profile (folder), follow these steps for each one.

Important: If you are at all unsure, or want to be careful, please copy this folder (or these folders if you have 2+ of them) elsewhere first, so you have a BACKUP.

Look for all the cookies-1.txt, cookies-1.txt etc files, and delete them.
On mine, I had cookies-1 to cookies-9999.
Be aware that this may take a while if you have lots of them and your system may appear to freeze - leave it alone for a few minutes.
Press F5 to refresh the folder.
Then do the same for prefs-1.js, prefs-2.js and so on - I had 8600-odd of these.
Again, be patient.

Important - make sure you do not delete "cookies.txt" or "prefs.js" - these are your preferences and cookie files

Press F5 to refresh the folder.
Check again for any of these files.
Now right click prefs.js and cookies.txt, choose properties, and ensure that the read-only attribute is unticked.
If you like, you can also delete bookmarks-x.html and bookmarks.bak - these are your bookmark backup files - and the files within the folder called "Bookmarkbackups".

Important: Make sure you do not delete bookmarks.html - this is your bookmarks file.

Close the window, and type or copy the following, without quotes, into the Run dialog box "%APPDATA%"
Right click the folder named "Mozilla" and ensure Read Only is unticked. When it asks if you want to apply the change to just the folder, or all subfolders and files, choose all of them.
Close the window.
Now empty the Recycle Bin and defragment your HDD.

I hope this helps some people out, as it helped me out.
Calum.

P.S. If you use this guide, please let me know how it goes.
Thanks.Odd -- I don't have these cookies-*.txt files:

Let me add, then, that this will not apply to all people.
It is a BIG, and happens to some and not others, caused by the relevant files being set to read only (which can, apparently, happen without the user's knowledge - I didn't change them to be read only).
Also, the family PC had no prefs-*.js, and had about 5 or 6000 bookmarks-*.html and about 700 cookies-*.txt.
Very different from mine.
So apparently it varies greatly too.

Solve : IE6: favorites have stopped scrolling and?

Answer»

Have 2-year old PC; working normally, (mostly except this). Curious thing...favorites operation is in trouble. Have IE6 (reluctant to do IE7 yet), and when I click on favorites, they come up but will no longer scroll when cursor is moved to bottom of list. And, often, screen becomes, "stuck." Then I simutaneously hit ctrl&alt, and favorites disappear. Then Hit ctrl/alt/delete, it shows IE working, and I click on, "x," and Explorer resumes normally until I click on favorites again whereupon it all starts over once more.

I'm wondering if an MS update has interrupted smooth operation, or? I do update regularly.

Am I to assume you're running XP?

Download CCleaner (install without Yahoo! toolbar) and use it to clean out your temp files. This may help some.

How long have you been having this problem?
It's only with Favorites? Search and History work just fine?
Can you THINK of any changes you made prior to this happening?
You mention Windows UPDATES... Did you install a new update before this happened?
What protection do you have? When was the last time you scanned for viruses?

Run CCleaner and post back with the INFORMATION asked for, and we'll see what we can do.

I don't blame you. This didn't happen to me while I had IE6, so it can't just be a bug. Do you have any add-ons to your Internet Explorer? These could affect the Favourites in some WAY. But does it happen to History as well?

What's so bad about IE7? I think the Tabs feature is good, because you don't have to open more programs and therefore slow down the CPU.

Thanks for the tips. Yes, XP. I do defrag regularly, disk cleaning, etc.

And favorites began working fine again. THEN I discovered my ISP was having trouble...I didn't think operations of favorites depended on quality/speed of ISP connection. I use AVG and do virus scan about every 10 days along with their daily updates.

At any rate, it's fine. But I still don't understand why.

I don't understand why either. Favorites don't depend on your connection, by the way. Has your ISP problem been resolved? Perhaps whatever was/is causing trouble with it also somehow caused problems with IE. Doesn't seem too terribly likely, but it's possible. It's good that you defrag/clean, but I think you should still download and run CCleaner. You'll find that it's a very useful tool.

Is AVG your only protection? What about a firewall? Although AVG is a very good program, it would be good to have a couple more. You should have their Anti-Virus and Anti-Spyware. They also have a new Anti-Rootkit, which is good to have handy. You should also get Ad-Aware. Doing regular scans with all of these will help with your overall protection.

I'm glad to hear that you're no longer having a problem, but I still suspect that something may be afoot. Like Dark Blade asked...do you have any extra add-ons/toolbars installed for IE6?

It's still a bit buggy and I hate the look, feel, and...well, just the interface as a whole. And I can't really say why, but I'm not a fan of tabs. It's still a bit buggy and I hate the look, feel, and...well, just the interface as a whole. And I can't really say why, but I'm not a fan of tabs. Kudos it is then. What is so buggy about it? I admit that it takes a while to get used to, but it's handy if you have multiple tabs so that you can view them all at once.
I didn't like it at the start, so I put in the original toolbar.

And as for DennisT's problem, that's a mystery...
Maybe just the computer was full with internet files (e.g. Temporary Internet Files or something), so it stuffed it up somehow... or maybe not.I'm too lazy to try to compile a list of IE7 bugs, but I'm sure Google will have plenty of references. When IE7 has been around a bit longer, I might give it another chance.IE7 problems = 131,000,012 hits.
IE7 troubles = 29.043,121 hits.

This changes daily though...and a search engine is not a good barometer of quality.

But it is a good barometer of trouble.

Just thought i'd clarify that.Quote

Solve : IE link problems?

Answer»

Hello everyone,
I'm using IE 7.0 and only recently did this START happening.

I have not tried clicking on any other external links, but whenever I use Google to search for something and end up clicking on a link, there will be something that shows up as "JUMP" for a brief moment on the search tab and then will direct me to ANOTHER page that is not the URL of the link I originally clicked on. "Jump" is not always displayed; sometimes it will just take me to another site.
Does anyone know how to fix this problem?
It is extremely annoying.

I've tried seeing if I had some kind of virus and RAN my Norton and other virus SCANNERS but nothing has ben detected. I also went into Add/Remove Programs and couldn't find anything suspicious there...

Any help you could offer would be great.
List all the protection programs you ran other than Norton...It might not be a virus if nothing was detected on multiple virus scanners, but that just depends if your virus scanners are up to date. Are they?^ Yes, they are up to date.

Quote from: patio on April 17, 2007, 10:38:25 PM

List all the protection programs you ran other than Norton...

I only ran something called CCleaner... other than that and Norton, nothing else.

Install Adaware SE and Spybot S&D, run them in safe mode. ^ Yep, thought it worked too.
But no, it's still jumping me to other websites....

Does this situation call for a HijackThis log? Might as well.

Solve : Login tracker??

Answer»

Is it possible to monitor who logs in to my email and other accounts if they are using a computer that i do not have access to? Is there any software that i could download to find out if anyone and what time they logged in as me on say, a hotmail account???

MANY thanks. Why do you want to know this?

Anyway, I don't think that they're will be programs that track the MOVEMENTS of other computers, but there might be programs that track your account movements. Try searching Google.

And you could always just CHANGE your PASSWORD! People can only logon as you if they have your password, so if you think someone has your password, make a Secret Answer THING (Hotmail has that I think), and change your password.

Glad I could help. You can change your password, not completely change it but like take a letter off at the end or add number at the end or something.OK. I understand now.

Have you searched Google for any programs? You can see if the messages are read or not, can't you?Quote from: jamandtea on April 19, 2007, 04:13:18 AM

i know people have my password, i want to know if they've been using it... ??

If you lower your security by giving out your password you should not even expect privacy. It's not a matter of trust, it's a matter of poor judgement. i know it doesn't make sense.

all i want to know is if such software exists, where you can access a list of time and dates of when someone has logged in to an account?I don't think there is such software because it would have to be linked to your email account and......well its complicating......
I really don't think such program exists.thanks for your help. that's all i need to know

Solve : Help! Makes weird "drop" noise while on net!?

Answer»

Hey everyone!

I have a Dell Inspiron 8600 running windows xp home. ever since i installed people pc dial-up my pc makes a weird "raindrop" noise the whole time its on the internet. Weird thing is that it does it all the time now, not just if I'm logged ONTO People PC. Also, People PC doesnt do it on my other computer. I'm on wireless internet right now and its still making the noise.

Please help! I cannot figure out how to get that noise to go away. Sure, I can mute it and its fine, but i like to listen to music on there too, so its a LIL annoying.

Any suggestions???

Thanks in advance! Go to Control Panel/Sounds and Multimedia and play each assigned sound til you find the culprit and disable it...Thnsk for the advice..

I tried that already, and none of the sounds match or even come close.

any other ideas? :-?Search the People PC directory for any .wav files....play each one til you find the culprit and delet/move it.ok, i risk sounding completely DUMB right now.. but...

what is the people pc directory and how do i get to it?

thanks! Here is another weird thing...

right now, i have my laptop at work with me, using our wireless server. i am NOT connected through people pc right now. for the wireless server, you must enter a PASSWORD at a login page to get connected. when i re-boot the computer, it automatically says i am connected to our signal, however i havent entered the password yet. the sound only occurs when i'm on the net, but it starts making the sound right away, before i have entered the password.

this makes me think something else above my knowledge is GOING on. perhaps a virus or something working beyond what i can see? i dont know, a wild guess. but the sound started once i installed people pc dial up.

any ideas?Ok i think i really do qualify as an idiot right now...

i have a "boingo" program installed that works with a wireless pc card to find wireless signals. i got the bright idea to close that program and the annoying noise went away. the weird thing is that i've had that program on there long before installing people pc and it never did that before. i cant explain it, but if the sound is gone i am happy.

thank you, thank you for your help. i love this forum, it has been a big help to me. i also have a post about my avg free software not working, maybe you can help with that too? a long shot, but hey, worth a try! anyways, although i feel kinda stupid, the sound is gone, so thanks! Glad to hear you got it solved...I haven't read your other post yet, but getting weird sounds you've never heard before and having trouble with your anti-virus doesn't sound like a good combination to me. I don't want to jump to any conclusions, but this may be worth further investigation. Even if you don't have a virus, it'd be good to know for certain. If your AVG problem gets corrected, I would suggest doing a full-system scan in Safe Mode in the very near future.

Solve : Can't reset IE?

Answer»

I am a bit of a novice when it comes to computers and am desperate for help. I recently got connected to broadband and wanted to set up my computers to work off a wireless router.
I have managed to get my laptop working put not my desktop.Whenever I click on IE a BOX comes up that says "Web page you requested is not available offline". When I try to connect it fails.
I went on the Windows online help desk and it suggeted RESETTING IE but I can't find the button. I open Internet Options, go to Advanced tab but there is no reset option only restore faults.

Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. How do you have the desktop connected ? ?
Wireless or wired ?Desktop is meant to be wired.
Oops, meant to say wireless.Where is the router located in conjunction with the dektop and NOTEBOOK?

Do you have a wireless network card installed on your desktop?

If you don't, and the router is in the same location as your desktop, run an ethernet cable from the network card installed on your desktop COMPUTER to port 1 on the router. Try opening your browser, again.

Keep us posted...My desktop can't be linked by a cable to the router but I do have a laptop. Unfortunately this is having problems as well. On network connections it says that it is connected to the router but it can't get on to the internet. This is the same problem as my desktop; the computer says it is connected but no RESPONSE on IE.Be glad you can't reset IE. Switch to Firefox instead: http://www.getfirefox.com and save yourself a world of hurt.

By the way some routers won't allow you to connect to them if you're using a wireless network. And you won't get a wireless connection until everything has been properly configured. You can try to get it to work by not using any security at all, but you're kind of blind when you can't see the router configuration. I'd hook up a cable, configure it and remove the cable after everything is working. (And secured of course.)

PLEASE list all of your protection programs...ada56,

To be PERFECTLY honest...I don't believe this has anything to do with any malware infestation on your computer.

This is what's happening in your hotmail account:

The original sender of this email is a "spammer" sending out info about stock alerts. You can verify this from the "From:" field in the original email header. However, the sender has changed the reply to email address to point to your hotmail account, so when you reply to it...you are receiving the reply. It's not a problem with your machine, but the way the original email was configured when it was sent to you.

I could go on about email headers, however, the best thing to do would be to just block the sender of the original email in the Mail preferences of your hotmail account.

Whatever you do...never...I mean NEVER...reply to an email if you don't know who it's from. If you do, they got your email address and then sell it to other companies who, in turn, will start spamming you as well.

So...you may want to read the following:

http://www.stopspam.org/email/headers.html

It gives you detailed information about e-mail headers...

It may be a little difficult to understand, however, it is good reading. Also, referencing patio's reply...it would also be a good idea to stay on top of your computer's malware protection, but like I said...I don't think this is the issue here. It's just a SPAM email with the header information changed so that if you reply to the original sender, it gets redirected to your hotmail account.

I hope you found this info useful...

Solve : Visual C++ ?????

Answer»

Can some one please tell me why I keep getting this message?

It started last night and it comes up any time I open IE and when I close it it closes IE and deletes all my stuff. What can I do to stop it? It's really annoying.
More info on your machine OS, version of IE etc. and the posse will be along shortly...Make sure your system is fully up to date with FIXES from Microsoft. If you have XP ensure that you are running SP2. From what I read elsewhere, the number one culprit for this error is the Google Toolbar, so if you have it installed, consider uninstalling it.

We still need to know all the system info previously requested if none of the above applies.

I use IE6, Microsoft Windox XP and if helps I use Norton AntiVirus and Confidential.

I don't have a google toolbar so I don't think that's the problem.Go to Start / RUN and type in sfc /scannow...have your XP CD handy as it will ASK for it.

Let it run to completion and re-boot....Quote

This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way

Why would it terminate it in an unusual way?

By the way, someone could easily make a program that does the stated...

Have you messed around with C++ recently?

Solve : help! accidentally exed out?

say i wrote an essay and ACCIDENTALLY exed out before hitting "SUBMIT" is there a way to get that back? I dont want to WRITE it again
What program were you writing this essay on?
You're posting in the BROWSER forum, so I assume you were writing it in your internet browser. If that's the case, I'm afraid there isn't really anything we can do for you. When writing anything important, you should first type it in a program like Wordpad or Notepad and save it to your computer, just in case anything happens. No, there is no way to get that back unless you stored it.

By the way, what is 'exed'? I guess they mean pressed the X - makes a sort of sense to me.
Sort of short hand writing that's not shorter, as many people do.

And I agree, there is PROBABLY no way of getting this back, sorry.
How were you writing this?

Solve : Password field filled automatically?

hello friends,
when i open my internet explorer and want to open my Gmail ACCOUNT. after putting my email ID my Password Field is autometically filled.
i have unchecked my "remember me on this COMPUTER" field.......
please help me,,,,,otherwise any one can open my account..

DEVHUse CCleaner (install without the Yahoo toolbar) to clear this and other private data.
Use this guide to set it up, but make sure you DO check AutoComplete, even though the guide says not to.
To prevent this happening in the future, open Internet Explorer (this assumes you are using IE7 and WinXP, as that's what I have). Go to Tools --> Internet Options --> Content.
Under AutoComplete, click Settings.
Untick User names and PASSWORDS on forms.
IE will now not remember your passwords.

Password Field is autometically filled.
There are programs that do that for you. I cant remember which ones though. Try to search google for something.Normally you can disable the AUTO COMPLETE option throght the Internet optin as Calum suggested.
If you wanted to, you could also clear out your Cookies, because this automatically CLEARS Auto-Save settings. You should also clear out Passwords.

You can do this by going to:
Tools > Internet Options > General (it's already in this tab, though) > Delete (under the sub-heading Deleting History)

This is for IE7, but I think it MIGHT be the same for different browsersPoll not necessary; removed. The poll was stupid.

Anyway, Devesh Sharma, has anything we've said helped?

Solve : IE7 Favorites drop down menu not listing favs?

Answer»

I saw this issue posted a while ago with no actual resolution. I would like to bring it up as I have the same problem.

When I click on the favorites icon, the window opens up and is blank. No favourites, no folders, no history. Yet, when I access the favorites form the tool bar on top, the list shows up with all of my favorites.

When I try to ADD a favorites though the "new" drop down icon in IE7, I receive a message that it is already there, yet it still does not SHOW up.

Only from the top tool bar drop down menus can I access any favorites. Why?

My system
MS Windows XP Home Edition, version 2002, service pack 2
AMD Athlon (tm) 64 processor
3000+
1.81 GHz, 512 RAM

THANKS, anyone.

Can you post a screen shot of IE immediately clicking on the Favorites icon? I suggest you reduce the window size to something fairly small for this procedure; we only need the left part of your IE window.I am not sure how to do that, but by simply clicking on the "star" icon, the blank MENU drops down, only showing the titles for favorites, feeds, and history. If I click on any of the those icons as well, nothing shows up. Thanks.I have IE 7 but I'm become a REGULAR user of Firefox. I have no idea what might be causing your problem. Hopefully, some of the IE users will chime in here.

Solve : Organizing "Favorites"?

I add URLs to my Favorites as I go during the day, and file them in existing or new folders when I'm not busy.
I have never been able to figure how to get all my folders to follow each other in alphabetical order and I've never figured how to avoid unclassified favorites getting mixed in with the main folders.
I've tolerated this for years now but I'm getting quite exasperated.
There must be some simple way for this simpleton to solve the problem?So...you basically just want to reorder your Favorites? What browser is this?

With IE, I'm not aware of any auto-arrange feature, so the only thing I can think of is clicking on your Favorites button and manually organizing the folders in the order you want by dragging them around. I can't think of any better way to do it.

If you're using a different browser, I imagine it's probably the same thing, UNLESS any of them have better organizing TOOLS. I tend to not stray too far from IE, so I'm really not sure.Duuuuh! You'll probably find this ridiculous, but I've had my p.c. for a week, am 61 and have no idea what "plug-ins" etc. are, but I know I've had ENOUGH of Internet Explorer and I READ that Opera's good and safe, but they want $40.00 to delete some features. (What's that about "free"?)
Anyway, I'm learning all I can about p.c.'s from About & Cnet, but the tech-talk creeps in there and I get horribly lost and discouraged.
I hope someone will be able to tell me what I can replace I.E. with and I really hope it's easy to download. (Opera was difficult to understand).
I went to Microsoft Help and could not possibly follow their uninstall directions for I.E.
Great Scott - is there ANYbody on-line who doesn't think everybody else is in p.c. university?

Google for Firefox.

Don't uninstall IE, just set Firefox as your default browser because you will need IE for Windows updates. You can have more than one browser on a machine and just use the one you prefer...this will not HARM anything.

Actually removing IE can cause nothing but trouble and you need it if only for Microsoft Updates so leave it alone.

I would suggest FireFox. It's been my browser of choice for many years now and is secure and highly customisable...

I'm not aware of Opera charging for anything lately as it's supposed to be free as well.

Try FireFox you won't be dissappointed.

Ok - I respect you answer and appreciate your replies.

The above leads me to believe there is a way to do this ... if anyone is willing to help, I'd appreciate it. I have not evil intentions and I'm noticing, even though I'm new, that there are private messages here, so feel free if you're more comfortable that way. I'm serioulsy so computer illiterate that I didn't realize I was asking a sensitive question :-/

It's not so much that it's a sensitive question...it's just a bit of a gray area. Snooping/spying can be very problematic. Maybe what you want to do is innocent, but someone else might come along and READ certain information and think "Hey, I can totally use that against so-and-so!" I think creating different user accounts is a good idea and if you follow along with the instructions, it should work just fine.I definately understand what you are saying, Matt, and thanks again for your response.

Would anyone happen to know what the default setting is for the number of days something stays the Internet "history." My laptop is currently at "0," is that what it starts at, or was it manuallly CHANGED?

Also, if I go under Internet Options/settings/view files and there is a cookie there from a Web site, are there other options for how it might have gotten there besides actually visiting that particular site?

Thanks, again, everyone for all your useful information - this technically-challenged girl has been learning a lot!The default setting is 9 days. It has been manually changed.Quote from: sportsgirl on March 28, 2007, 06:37:26 AM

Thanks, again, everyone for all your useful information - this technically-challenged girl has been learning a lot!

Thanks. that's what I figured about the history.

What about the question in red?Cookies are often added by advertisements. If you go to MySpace, you'll probably get cookies from four or FIVE different servers when visiting a site. However, the actual MySpace cookies, I assume, would only be added by the site itself. Perhaps Cookie Central might be of some interest to you.I don't do board colors, so there is no question in red.

Yes, it is possible for a cookie from a domain different from the one visited to be set.I'll check out cookie central, thanks.

Is it possible for a cookie to be in the files if you haven't accessed the Internet that day? For example, let's say there is a cookie from a Web site and it says: LAST accessed 3/26 9:15 a.m. Would the computer/Internet have had to be on at that time for it to say that?Where does it say this - in Windows Explorer, or inside the cookie itself?

If there's a trust issue here by the way, I suspect use of the laptop may be the least of your worries. On the other hand, if you would like simply to install some safeguards on your laptop, you have a lot of options.

Do you know what you would like to achieve, ultimately? You can find a free "index.dat scanner at

Solve : Out of ideas and patience?

Answer»

I'm running a pirated version of Windows XP (a fact I just learned. I'm pretty SURE I thought I was paying for a legit copy), so of course Microsoft won't touch me with a ten foot pole. So I've turned to you. I recently got Comcast broadband and it worked fine for a week but then I had to use their Desktop Doctor everytime I started my computer to reset all the Internet settings. I called them about that several times but they couldn't explain why I had to go through that everytime. I tolerated it reasonably well until explorer started to crash. I get this send/don't send report window, or it simply freezes. None of my passwords are saving and I'm having to reset all internet settings every time I start the computer. Even though I've uninstalled all of comcast's programs and run anti VIRUS and anti spyware software, these issues continue.

Any ideas?Do you plan on going legit ? ?

Does this install have SP2 on it ? ?

It's difficult at best for us to suggest help in these situations but i appreciate your honesty....I really can not afford to. Trust me when I tell you if I could make the guy who did this pay I would but alas, he's long gone. Go figure. And I'm left trying to work with what I have. I was in the store pricing it and I just don't have an extra $250 hanging around especially when I don't know if that's the problem. If you are a University student (registered) i would check the University bookstores for Win2K....BASICALLY XP without the fluff and probably the most stable OS MS has produced...you won't be dissappointed and it's probably well within your budget....

p.s. XP shouldn't be $250...where are you located ? ?Baltimore$139.00 Shippedand you think that'll solve the root of my problem?A clean install of XP solves a multitude of problems...

Along with being able to get all the service packs and CRITICAL updates i would say yes...

Solve : Javascript event handlers disabled??

Answer»

Hi,
Some users of my webpages are complaining that (simple) event handlers (like onClick and onMouseOver) are not WORKING for them (they work for me, and I have tested them on other computers too). These people all SEEM to be using IE 6. I think they must have something disabled in their IE setup, but for the life of me, I don't KNOW what it is.
Can anyone tell me what it is?

Cheers,
DeeDeeman..... Could you possibly post links to the pages that are creating the issue so we can test them .........
Perhaps we can recreate the issue.

dl65 Well, no I can't. They're on the COMPANY internal net.
Is it possible to attach a file in the FORUM here?
