It has been confirmed. Does this mean anything? How do you mean?Quote from: 2x3i5x on March 11, 2011, 05:10:35 PM IE9 is going to RTM status on march 14th. It has been confirmed. Does this mean anything? You should probably be expecting to see it appear in Windows Updates the next time your system gets updates.Just a few short days after delivering the first Release Candidate build of Firefox 4, Mozilla's senior director of engineering Damon Sicore has confirmed that the final build of the browser will be READY to launch before the month is out. The browser's public release has been pencilled in for a March 22nd launch. http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/news/index.cfm?newsid=3265554 Quote from: Allan on March 17, 2011, 06:52:08 AM Just a few short days after delivering the first Release Candidate build of Firefox 4, Mozilla's senior director of engineering Damon Sicore has confirmed that the final build of the browser will be ready to launch before the month is out. I guess IE9's release and Chrome's steady release of stable updates are getting Mozilla a little ITCHY to get on the boat too. |

Solve : Can't Open links in my Outlook Email? |
|
Answer» Hi All. Desperately seeking help. I can suddenly not open any links on the emails I receive in OUTLOOK. A window pops up that says this operation is not allowed and to contact ADMINISTRATOR. I'm running Windows Vista, and as of a month ago, I could click on any links in my emails received and a new web page would open up as normal...not anymore. I've gone into the Control Panel, Internet and SET it as the default (IE) and checked to make sure nothing was amiss...I can't *see* anything that has changed and I'm baffled. Ideas? Grateful for any help! |

Solve : Opening files on browser instead of downloading? |
|
Answer» When clicking on links that point to a file on the some sites, my browser (IE/Chrome) used to open it as a pop up window instead of prompting me to save it. But now only Firefox do so, which I regard as normal. When clicking on links that point to a file on the some sites, ...I think this needs some clarification. I believe you're TALKING about downloading a file. Is that right? Example, when I want to view my Purchase Order on my vendor's site, in the past, when I click on the PO number, it'll display as a pop-up, but now it prompts me to save the file as .aspx file. Did you CHECK your IE Internet OPTIONS->Security tab->Custom Level->look for Download options for enabling and disabling automatic prompting and file downloads. Click Yes and Apply. Also, if you right-click on the link do you have all of the options? What happens if you choose "open" from there?Hi Jason, IE and Firefox work fine. My problem occurs with Chrome.Hi Allan, in Chrome, when I right click on the link, I have Back, Forward, Reload, Save as, Print, Translate to English, View page source, View page info, Inspect elemenQuote IE and Firefox work fineWon't 2 browsers suffice your need?? My primary browser is Rockmelt. I don't use IE most of the time except when I need to download things (because both Chrome and Rockmelt never solved the CRASHING problem during downloading), and Firefox is slow and draining system resources that I have to restart it periodically. Well then, do you have the same problem with Rockmelt?Yes. Basically Chrome and Rockmelt are based on same platform, right? |

Solve : Constant error message "unable to display page"? |
|
Answer» Have had att internet and e-mail for years with Internet Explorer as browser. Problems began with changeover att made to home page powered by Yahoo. Now, virtually nothing works. Even though I connect with att connection manager and little blue world says "connected", most of the time any thing I try to look up i get the message "unable to display page" Reason GIVEN is "a cable is not plugged into the local area connector" What does this mean? No one has ever been able to give me an answer. Even though I sometimes finally get into my e-mail, it is very DIFFICULT to get any messages to open on the first, 10th, or 25th try. PLEASE HLP ME! Can someone e-mail me back with suggestions? Thank you.Iola Glista, Welcome to the CH forums. There are a number of options that you could try to solve your issue. However if i were in your shoes given that your ISP (att) has recently changed something re their service i would contact their tech support and see if they will help you to solve your problem. If you have and they haven't then please tell us so and we shall proceed from there. truenorthQuote from: Iola Glista on MARCH 08, 2011, 12:35:57 PM "a cable is not plugged into the local area connector" What does this mean?UMM, have you checked your cable connections? Check the cable that connects to your modem and the cable that connects your modem to your computer. Make sure they are securely connected. Quote I connect with att connection manageratt connection manager is an unnecessary program but I won't suggest you remove it because, if you have to contact ATT support, they will probably insist that you need to use it. I agree with truenorth. The first step should be contacting ATT tech support. |

So, it seems much like Firefox 3.6.xx. I still have Firefox 3.6.14 in Ubuntu. I believe Minefield is always the bleeding-edge (alpha) version. At the moment 4.0.12 is the stable beta, 4.0.13 is the Minefield alpha release, described by Mozilla as potentially buggy and slow. Quote from: BC_Programmer on March 06, 2011, 03:26:46 PM no. Minefield is the name for the 64-bit build. It's also on other platforms. Isn't Seamonkey also a rebranded FF? And isn't Minefield the bleeding-edge alpha? I'm confused. RC is available already: ftp://ftp.mozilla.org/pub/mozilla.org/firefox/nightly/4.0rc1-candidates/build1/win32/en-US/Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 06, 2011, 03:31:02 PM I believe Minefield is always the bleeding-edge (alpha) version. At the moment 4.0.12 is the stable beta, 4.0.13 is the Minefield alpha release, described by Mozilla as potentially buggy and slow.Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 06, 2011, 03:32:31 PM Isn't Seamonkey also a rebranded FF? And isn't Minefield the bleeding-edge alpha? I'm confused. It all starts with the NETSCAPE source release. that source became Seamonkey; firefox was the result of turning seamonkey into a web browser rather then an integrated package (like netscape with all it's various bells and whistles). As far as I know Minefield is the 64-bit build of Firefox... anyway, Firefox and Seaweasel are certainly times of the same fork. Quick google reveals that minefield also has 32-bit versions, and looks more like it is in fact a alpha of firefox, why they wouldn't just call it "Firefox Alpha Version whatever" is beyond me. Also, why is it that they make 64-bit builds of prerelease code but ones it is in firefox they sort of push it aside and never actually build 64-bit? I mean, that just confuses people like me who like to pretend to know things.Quote from: Salmon Trout on March 06, 2011, 03:31:02 PM I believe Minefield is always the bleeding-edge (alpha) version. At the moment 4.0.12 is the stable beta, 4.0.13 is the Minefield alpha release, described by Mozilla as potentially buggy and slow.Yeah, I believe you're correct. I wasn't paying close enough attention to what I was downloading. Indeed, I do have 4.0.13. |

Solve : IE8 error message No Such Interface Supported? |
|
Answer» I have a new Dell XPSL701x with Windows 7 Home Premium with IE8 I downloaded Mozilla and it worked, but I need to use IE8.Why do you need to use IE8?See if this helps: http://iefaq.info/index.php?action=artikel&cat=42&id=133&artlang=enThe programmers at work said I had to use IE for somethings they have written. I tried the script and it didn't help. I tried IE 16 bit and it works, but flash doesn't work in the 16bit. I'm not trying to be snide - but perhaps the programmers at work can offer some suggestions? It sounds to me like the problem is in fact caused by the very thing that they have written. "No Such Interface Supported" is a standard COM error code (E_NOINTERFACE); this error occurs when a QueryInterface call is made ATTEMPTING to acquire an interface ID that the object doesn't support. Now the question may be brought up how that is at all relevant; well, consider for a moment that a 32-bit COM component would not even load at all in 64-bit; the additional mention that you need IE leads me to believe that for whatever reason your WORKPLACE has instituted a policy whereby all machines have specific Internet Explorer Addons installed- written in-house. It also SEEMS clear that these addons are relatively poorly written in that they aren't doing proper error handling; in 64-bit the plugins aren't loading (because they are 32-bit), and other browsers don't load them for obvious reasons. IE 32-bit loads the plugin/addons properly, but the addons error out later on attempting to acquire a interface for some other component. This is further reinforced in that overriding link behaviour is something that is a relatively common task for such addins to do. (in the case of a company, for example, it likely creates an audit trail) On the other hand, however, the "error messages" you posted half-appear as if they are in fact javascript errors and not related to COM at all; but that raises the question of why 64-bit would work fine once again; the only possible reason I can conceive is once again that a 32-bit component is being used that has issues that simply cannot be loaded to begin with in 64-bit.I've seen a similar problem under IE8 whenever I had Adobe Flash Player disabled or not installed yet, and tried to access a site showing a video. |

Solve : Web Thumbnailer - Not enough storage is available to process command? |
|
Answer» Anyone know of a way to find out where the flaw is in this software. After a short while it complains with error message of "Not enough storage is available to process this command", yet I have 40GB of 160GB HD FREE, and my available Ram is hovering at 500MB of 1GB, running Windows XP Home SP3 on Dual Core Atom CPU on my netbook. Anyone know of a way to find out where the flaw is in this software.Easy. He isn't using the WebBrowser Control correctly. Quote I have tried to contact the programmer to ask about what could cause this, given he was the one who put the error message in his programExcept, he's not. The Error Is From Internet Explorer; the error cascades back to the application and causes it to crash. IE stays running because it "handled" the error (by sending it back to the application) Empty IE's cache; or, increase the allocated size of the cache. The Error itself is a Standard Windows Error (code . Normally, the cache is purged to make ROOM for new entries, but the program makes IE throw new stuff onto the cache so fast that the cache algorithm can't find anything it feels it can safely discard (they are using the Web Browser control, which is designed to be used by a Human, not necessarily controlled by the program, so obviously it's not exactly designed for the case where pages are fetched constantly and fill the cache). By default the cache is 50MB; you can increase this by using Internet Explorer's "Internet Options" dialog, General Tab; "Settings" for "Browsing History" and increasing the "temporary Internet Files" size. you likely get the crash when you start the program up again because Internet Explorer is an Out of Process component; that is, the program itself is using a separate iexplore.exe to work with the web pages, when the application crashes, that executable is now orphaned, but the program "reconnects" to it so to speak when you start it again, creates the control, which subsequently crashes while trying to store data in the cache. End the iexplore process and you should be able to "restart" the application without problems. Thanks BC ... When I stopped the program before it crashed, then went into IE to adjust the settings it greeted me with the fact that the space was already over its size limit and it wanted to adjust itself to 1024MB Going to save new settings and restart application and see if this did the trick...it sure looks like this was the cause. MANY MANY THANKS to sharing with me the likely cause and being extremely knowledgeable with IE and the way this programmer was passing the URLs to the browser!!! That definately fixed it...before it would crash frequently and its chugging away without errors now...at least not until I exceed 1024MB..lol Thanks BC for solving this for me... I should have posted this issue a few weeks back! Cool, good news... just don't go trying to make pictures of thousands upon thousands webpages in one go and you should be fine |

Solve : Problems going online - low bytes received? |
|
Answer» This is probably going to sound like a dumb question but its driving me nuts. Recently (started 2 days ago) I started having problems getting online. I am with Bigpond dial up and normally access the web 3 times a day to check emails and look at ebay etc. But now every time I go online I get nothing. Every link I type comes up 'Page cannot be displayed', and OE cant access any new emails. When I check the Bigpond status it says there is a connection but the bytes received is very low, about 250, compared to over a 1000 transmitted. I have to come off the internet, clear all cookies/cache and then go back online. Each time I do this its fine, until the next time I go online. |

Solve : Cannot turn off pop up blocker? |
|
Answer» I recently reformatted my hard drive and since then I cannot turn off the pop up filter. But, my real problem is it also blocks access to links on e-mails and my address LIST. I NEED to press Ctrl to allow access to the e-mail links etc.. E-mail files and folders are not blocked. Links on a web site are not blocked only on e-mails. Could this be a Outlook Express problem? I am using IE 8 and XP O. S. Eddie B Eddie B, Welcome to the CH forums. Try this kate1968: At the top of your screen at the right you will see 'tools' with small arrow pointing down. Click on 'tools', and when the drop down menu appears, click on 'pop up blocker', and select 'turn off pop up blocker'. Installing "service pack 2" has altered some of your email security settings. Now the interesting thing is that both the mentioned check boxes are ticked in my Outllook Express yet I can still click on links within emails which will open my browser and go to the site. Even more interesting, the OP in the truenorth link said it fixed their problem. I'm using OE & Firefox.I tried the recomendation open Outlook Epress and click on the security tab. Then uncheck the " Do not allow attachments to be saved or opened.............. " and "Block images and other external content in HTML email" apply & OK. Unfortunately it did not solve my problem. You should check to see if IE is the default browser. IE>Tools>Internet Options>Programs. Thanks, I appreciate your comments FED moderator. I checked and I E is my default browser. Was there any particular event that you can associate with the onset of this problem? There may be a way to overcome this problem if it is associated with IE 8 and the associated version of outlook express. That is to install an older version of IE such as version 7. Here is a site for doing that http://www.oldversion.com/ . You could try that and see it's effect on the problem. You could then update that version back to IE 8 and see if it changes anything. Seems to me to be an arcane way to solve the problem. However GIVEN all you have tried unsuccessfully maybe arcane is in order. truenorthEUREKA!!! I don't know what the problem was but I found the cure. I reset IE configuration settings. In I E I went into Internet Options, clicked the Advanced tab and then clicked Reset. In the I E default settings dialog box I clicked reset. I restarted Internet Explorer and that did the trick. I do not have to hold down the Ctrl key any longer to access a link and the links come up twice as fast now. I WOULD like to thank all you nice folks out there for your suggestions I learned a lot from you. Thanks Eddie B.Way to go--well done, truenorth |

Solve : IE 6.0.2900.2180.xpsp_sp2_gdr.080814-1233? |

Answer» I have been putting up with an ISSUE with the above program for a few months now and have learned to live with it.However in a desire to have the program work as it should i am seeking a solution to what is happening. Which is the following: I have a media news page as my home page.Whenever i desire to go to a link within the page i must right click on the link and select "open in a new window". Otherwise the page will never open and i get the usual window indicating could not connect and all the options contained therein. This phenomenon has only occurred within the past 2-3 months and only occurs on this one computer. Sony Vaio desktop O/S Xp pro sp2.I do not have Norton or Mcafee on this computer. I do not want the solution to be "install Firefox". I have had issues with Firefox in the past (particularly when used on the same computer that has a version of IE. on it). I do use Opera on another computer (which i am very satisfied with) but have no desire to put it on the Sony.I would much prefer to solve the IE problem.I have been tempted to upgrade IE 6 to IE 7 but have heard some adverse comments re IE 7. Suggestions please.truenorthWell, there isn't anything wrong with IE7, in my opinion.kpac, thanks for your comment--REASSURING --if i must go that route. However i am concerned that this particular issue will not necessarily be resolved by merely UPGRADING. I suspect that this issue has less to do with IE version and more to do with some conflict with IE and "something" else.Just a suspicion--no facts. If so then upgrading may not put me any further ahead. Unless there is a known problem with IE 6 that has been resolved in IE 7. I am not aware of any such problem though. truenorthWhy don't you try IE7, just to see, if the same problem exist? |
