Every time I hit the key bet_een q and e, my computer launches _indo_s Media Player and AOL.com (of _hich I am not a user). It does not matter if I am on the internet, using MICROSOFT _ord or QUICKBOOKS !! It then knocks me out of the program I am using!! I have Norton Anti-Virus and have run a system scan -- resulting in no viruses detected. Does ANYONE kno_ _hat my problem might be and ho_ to fix it Remove the key from the keyboard and turn it upside down...then put it back on the keyboard...

How about BOOTING into Safe Mode and tryig it there...same problem? Here's something you can try...

Right click on the shortcut that opens Media Player...select Properties.

Is there anything in the shortcut key box? If so, re-enter the key that was opening the program (in this case "w", without the quotes). Click Apply and then close that window.

Reopen the Properties window for the Media Player shortcut and then delete the shortcut key...then click Apply.

Do the same as above for your AOL.com shortcut.

Solve : All my passwords are deleted??

Answer»

Hello, these days i am having lots of problems with mozilla firefox (a fast browser like IE(Internet explorer)). First of all it always crashes and i thought that i had a problem with my internet which then i realised i didn't because IE works well and never crashes. I use Mozilla cause it's fast and the only browser i can rely on (an old user). But now today i checked all the websites i was registered to now it doesn't show the username and passwords i registered for it?! Also from now on i can't save any passwords for any WEBSITE I might need to change my default browser but i just love Mozilla for it's fast and the awesome add-ons it has. Is there a way to fix this?

P.S: The crashes happened for the past 2 weeks or so and the remember passwords happened yesterday-today. Also my internet slowed down a lot it starts with (when it shows the how fast it's downloading) with 5 kb/s! and then starts going up to the usual speed of 150kb/s+? So when i play watch MOVIES online games on my ps3 it goes at terrible speeds? I'm connected to Telstra and only used 48% of my allowance...

Thank you...Sorry about you problems.

The best I can offer is that you need to find out if you computer has been infected with some kind of "malware" or if the hardware is failing.

Fire Fox has a new version out that may be more reliable.

EVERYONE should have some kin of backup system for the computer. Some people use an external HDD and save everything. Others use a DVD burner and put the most important documents and other THINGS onto DVDs.

In fire Fox you can make a print of you current passwords by using the print screen key and then use a image editor to print the image on your printer.
You would go full screen with Fire Fox, show passwords, hit the print screen key. The go to start and programs then paint or whatever image program you like. Paste the image, then print it. If not all the passwords fit, scroll down and do it again. Keep the pages in a safe place.
What version of Windows are you using? What version of IE and Firefox do you have installed?

What protections do you use (firewall, virus, spyware, etc.)? What maintenance routine, if any, such as disk CLEANUP using Windows Disk Cleanup or CCleaner, and defragmenting your hard drive?

Solve : fail to open pdf in IE?

Answer»

I use Vista HOME and everytime I click on a pdf link in the website, a WARNING message says it's probably not an effective digital signature and ask if I will allow or deny the operation.

Even I click on allow, I can't open the pdf. I suspect it's related to some security setting in IE but I just don't know how to fix it. Download, and install FoxIt: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/I have a similar problem I'm running Xp Pro on a pc
When I click on a PDF file the XP Dialog Box Opens
to show the download. Then Adobe Reader 9.0.0 opens
with an error message right in the middle.
"There was an error opening this DOCUMENT. This file cannot be found"

Well I know it is not just this document.

If I download it to the desktop I can click it and open it from there,
but for me that a LITTLE bit of a hassle. I have tried reinstalling Adobe reader and that didn't change anything. Any ideasWait, just to double check, save the PDF to your Desktop, then drag it to IE.IE won't open pdf file, unless it has Acrobat Reader plug-in installed, and Adobe sucks.

Solve : Problems with Vista and web browsing?

Answer»

Zone Alarm is a firewall, but you mentioned Symantec, so you must be using Norton, rather.
It may be your CULPRIT, since you 're able to connect in Safe MODE, where Norton is not loaded, yet.
This is what I suggest...
Download Norton Removal TOOL: http://service1.symantec.com/Support/tsgeninfo.nsf/docid/2005033108162039
Physically disconnect from the internet (disconnect modem's cable).
Uninstall Norton, using the above tool.
Turn Windows firewall on:
GO Start>Control Panel. DOUBLE click on the Security Center icon. Click on the Windows Firewall icon beneath the status updates. Click On, then OK.
Reconnect modem's cable.
Restart computer in Normal Mode, and see, if you can connect.
We'll go from there.I tried it, but it didn't work.

I just reloaded the system from the original disks. I do think it was a failed windows update that did the system in.Does everything work now?Yes. I reloaded everything and it works.Cool

Solve : WOT and firefox.?

Answer»

I installed WOT on my FF3 now i can't get rid of the WOT BUTTON on the taskbar. When i customize the toolbar to not show the button it comes back when i close and open FF. Does this happen with everyone and is there a way to stop it showing up?

FBTaskbar, or status bar?If you are talking about BESIDE the ADDRESS bar (like mine), you can't get rid of it. Quote from: kpac on JANUARY 20, 2009, 02:20:43 AM

If you are talking about beside the address bar (like mine), you can't get rid of it.

hmmmm that's quite annoying. I might have to uninstall it then.

FBRight-click the WOT button and click "Settings...".
Go to the "Advanced" tab.
Uncheck the box next to "Re-create the toolbar button if it gets removed (recommended)".
Click "Apply settings".

Now you can remove the WOT button the same way you would remove any other button. If I may...what's the reason to have WOT, if it won't display any info??Mainly for the search engine results, i wasn't aware that the button gave out information about the site you were already on so i didn't realise there was any reason for it being there.

Plus WOT still displays a WARNING if you try to go to a site it has blacklisted.

Solve : IE 7 - don't see URLs when hovering cursor over links [SOLVED]?

Answer»

Recently got a new computer, and now I can only see the URLs of LINKS in the STATUS bar when I right-click on them. How can I make hovering the cursor over the link enough for the URL to show up?

Browser: I.E. 7
O.S.: Windows Vista 64-bit SP1 (if this matters...)

Thanks.Do you mean in the Status Bar (grey bar at the bottom of window)?

GO to View > Status Bar. Does that work?Yes the status bar is ENABLED. Like I said, I can see the URL in it when I right-click on a link. I can even see the URL when I hover the cursor over an image link. But when I hover over a text link, nothing shows up.Is this on every site, or just on one particular site?On most sites - google, wikipedia, AMAZON and livejournal included - the URLs don't show up at all when I hover. Here they do show up. On some sites (like tv.com) they don't show up at first but might later. On others (like msn.com) they do show up at first but then disappear.

EDIT: Solved. Apparently one of my add-ons was to blame.Did you try Internet Explorer with no addons (or IE Safe Mode)?

EDIT: Sorry, didn't notice it was solved.

Hi All,
I've got problems with viewing Wiggle (a cycling website) I've tried three different internet browsers, IE, Firefox & Opera, uninstalling and re-installing them all. I have also tried a few different ISP's, uninstalled and re-installed my virus software (AGV), played with the security settings and anything else I can think of but all to no avail.

I am currently USING Windows Vista, and IE8 beta.

IE tells me that I have a DNS problem
Firefox tells me that I have an encription issue.

Over to you please help its driving me nuts. What's the actual link to the website?www.wiggle.co.ukWorks for me... At first I thought it might have been the site. Do you have any BLOCKING software that might be preventing you from viewing it (not necessarily blocked, but some INTERFERE with viewing sites), or are you using a proxy that might be intercepting your internet?

Thanks ne help would be greatDid you try Firefox?i have no IDEA what firefox is
It's another browser: http://www.mozilla.com/en-US/firefox/
Install it, and then we'll see, if this is a browser problem, or something else.
it MUST be an interner explorer problem because it works fine with fire fox
Good.
Close IE.
Go START>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same problem?it worked fine that way
Good. That means, one of you toolbars, or add-ons are giving you a problem.
In IE, go Tools>Internet Options>Advanced tab, and click on "Reset" button.
Everything should be working fine, now.
If so, you may start re-enabling add-ons/toolbars, BUT only one-by-one, until you find the culprit.
Main suspects - toolbars: Google, Yahoo, etc. That did it thanks for all your helpYou're very welcome

Solve : I can't use internet explorer:(?

Answer»

Last year about this time I started having problems with IE. Then my dad told me about Firefox and I've been using it ever since. I love it! HOWEVER there is one site from my dh's employer that we have to view with IE and mine won't WORK. When you click the icon it won't even open. If it does open it freezes and shuts down.

I tried updating it but that didn't help.

What can I do to make it work?

I have a 5 year old Compaq Presario with Windows XP.

Thanks!Quote from: aces67 on January 24, 2009, 12:36:19 PM

I tried updating it but that didn't help.

What version of IE? 7?uninstall it from add remove programs in control panel menu.

on left hand column of add remove programs is add remove windows components use this to remove IE. just untick the box. the got back and tick it and HIT apply OK and it will install a fresh version of IE.It's IE 7.

I tried uninstalling and reinstalling but it STILL won't work. When you click the icon you see a really quick white screen pop up then it goes away and your back on the DESKTOP. IE never opens and if you do Ctrl Alt Delete it will show that it's not running.

Uninstall IE7, and see, if IE6 will work.

Solve : Strange bird noises?

Answer»

My computer's running fine, however, when I'm on the internet, every so often I hear a bird chirp or a hawk or something screach. This lasts for about a second or two and then I won't hear it for maybe another hour or so. Do I have a virus? Is it possibly a beep code?I don't know. I can definitely tell you that the noises I described is exactly what I am hearing. They are not noises that sound somewhat like a bird chirping, they are. This has only started to happen within the past few weeks.
Thanks for the replyThis could be the work of a virus.... It could also be a banner ad., which has sound enabled... This is possible becuase it only happens on the internet... Have you tried running a virus scan anyway?

[glb]Flame[/glb]CHECK TO MAKE SURE THE SHIFT KEY IS NOT STUCK IN THE DOWN POSITION.
This morning when I started my computer an odd chirpping type of noise CAME from my computer.
My computer started choosing multiple files or multiple words in all programs.
After trying a few remedies on LINE nothing worked and I started to freak.
In any case, I happened to BOW my head down toward the keyboard in frustration and noticed the shift key was stuck down. I hit the key and everything was back to normal. I checked all keys and everything ws perfect. Restarted the computer just to check. All is A-OK! Hope this helps someonechocolate, thanks for the info, but this THREAD is nearly 4 years OLD.... Solve : adobe , and adobe flash , etc, etc?

Answer»

why do we need adobe and everything that COMES with it Flash is a free plugin for internet browsers used for viewing dynamic content on webpages.
Acrobat is used for viewing PDF files.ok , do we also need adobe , air , reader 9 , shockwave player 11You need Adobe Flash Player, and Shockwave Player.
You don't need Adobe Air, unless you're web developer.
Adobe Reader is needed to read .pdf documents, but it's better to get rid of it, and use FoxIt: http://www.filehippo.com/download_foxit/changelog/Quote from: Broni on January 25, 2009, 09:37:14 PM

but it's better to get rid of it, and use FoxIt

Why, may I ask?Adobe Reader is huge, and is a RESOURCE hog.
FoxIt is much smaller, and faster.Ditto Broni. I dumped Acrobat long ago for Foxit. In fact, I bought their $29 version so I can put text in editable PDF files. Pretty cool

Alan <>< Alan, exactly what product is that? Can you post a link to it?thank you for your HELP , as always

Harry
Uninstall FoxIt. Start the installation again, but this time select custom installation.
Keep your eyes open during installation, and remove any checkmarks for any "extras" you don't want (means, all of them; you want FoxIt only).

As a matter of fact, whenever you install anything, always select custom install, and watch for any kind of extra garbage, they want to install on your computer.thank you broni , will do

maybe you would take a look at a topic i put in computer software about windows

Solve : Can't connect to web?

Answer»

I am not sure if this ISSUE is a hardware or browser issue.

I have a desktop PC that is using IE7 (hard wired) and a few laptops (wireless) connecting to my router. No problems until yesterday. The laptops can connect to the internet without a problem (though they are RUNNING IE6), but the desktop STOPPED working. I can ping several addresses and I can connect to the LAN, but IE7 just times out. I have RESET the router and PC several times and I disabled wireless on one laptop and used the hard wire and CONNECTED fine so it appears the problem is with the desktop PC. I'm baffled that I can ping though to www.google.com for instance, but the browser hangs. I reset the IE7 settings back to the original settings too, but still the same.

Has anyone else experienced this or know of a solution?

Thanks Have you downloaded or installed anything new recently?

How are you pinging the sites? Command Prompt?Yes from the command prompt.

I think I have solved the problem. It appears my personal firewall was blocking IE7 traffic. Very strange.

Solve : Some website not opening.?

Answer»

Hi recently I noticed that some websites are not OPENING in my LAPTOP. I have internet connection alright. using Vista in my laptop. There was no such problem EARLIER. Any help would be appreciated. I also use live onecare antivirus. What kinds of websites?
When did it start?
What Internet Browser? And may I ask what does it have to do with programming??
Indeed. Moved.Hi CD,
sorry being out. Actually I was trying to open Drupal.org which used to load NORMALLY earlier, but all of a sudden they stop loading. I googled and pinged and did a lot of research the other day but is not resolved. Finally I came to conclusion that there's something wrong with the service provider. I am going to change the service providers soon.
Thanks for the response.
jet.I checked Drupal at a few different times today and it appears it's not on their end as it loaded fine...
What protection apps do you have and are you running a firewall ? ?I am using windows vista on my laptop.
I am only using Windows Live Onecare. I also got the firewall enabled.
I called up the service providers number of times. Finally they sent one guy, who brought his own laptop and connected to the wire and this site (drupal) did not load for him too. So I am assuming that the problem is not with my laptop, but with the service provider. Am I right?

and today I noticed that slowly one by one, many other sites are not opening too. These are just random sites from google which I was searching for someting. So basically whatever this thing is, it is blocking few more sites now!
If website is OK, and my laptop is OK, where do you think the problem would be??

thanks.Uninstall Live One Care...
See if your issues go away.
If so avoid it like the plague.

There is a way....but Don't. Just LEAVE it to one side. How integrated is Internet Explorer into the Vista operating system? I know that in past versions of Windows, removing IE was problematic. My suggestion, too, is to just leave it. I always delete Desktop and Menu icons so no one can easily use IE.
It's a waste of time trying to get rid of IE and not worth the effort as system issues can be created doing so...that being said delete the Desktop icons and PRETEND you GOT rid of it and move on.It's just like getting rid of a old girlfriend- you forget about them day to day, but when your main GF stops working, you have a backup.

except with browsers, you can run both at once, and it doesn't require quite as much engineering.Well i like your explanation alot better than mine...

Yes unfortunately the analogy doesn't work in practice. Even a girl raised by wolves knows when she's been used. Which is where the clever engineering comes in... usually involves robot replicas of oneself, large doses of amphetamines, and a LOT of tomatoes. Not sure where the tomatoes come in...Women love gardeners...could that be it ? ?
I always carry at least 2 tomatoes in my pockets at all times just for that reason...Possibly, there hasn't been sufficient RESEARCH yet to confirm exactly why tomatoes help so much. However, other experiments found that they don't fare well nder the influence of poison, million degree tempuratures or sub-zero temperatures, which leads me to believe they are themselves a plant which would quite well explain their fondness for gardeners and tomatoes.Sometimes even two GIRLFRIENDS don' suffice, and you'll need yet another one to satisfy your 'needs'

This one is low maintenance, leaner and more athletic than the other two. Runs fast and doesn't need to eat much.
and it's very stealthy, so while the other girlfriends bicker to themselves, you "enjoy" the other.

Solve : "This site may harm your computer" January 31, 2009 8:30AM CST?

Answer»

All Google searches from around 8:30 to 9:30AM Central Time USA - had the LINK:
"This site may harm your computer"
I was at first wondering if all sites caught malware.
But thinking more LIKELY - Google security - was adjusted too tightly.

Anyone else see this?
I went to a second computer - to VERIFY that the same issue existed.
It did - so was not malware on a particular computer.

At aprox. 9:40 AM CST - the "This site may harm your computer" link had been removed.

Thanks,

Chronk
Is that you "ytrottier" ? ?No - sorry - I'm not ytrottierIt was world wide.

Google did it to one of my sites!
There was nothing of INTEREST on the site. I had only uploaded some templates from Front Page and left it 'till I could get back to it. The site got blackballed by Google. Not a joke! I changed name servers and hosting, put it on a empty host and they later took me of the blacklist. Strange. Quote from: Geek-9pm on January 31, 2009, 12:53:18 PM

They were going to do that anyway, the error at Google led to every single search result having the "dangerous" warning.

I don't know about anyone else but if it says dangerous i click it automatically....

I'm especially interested in this new version MEMORY usage, SINCE it's suppose to BRING some improvement in this department.
Basically, I kept all 3.0 add-ons, and I'll see how it goes.Link

Solve : IE7 Doesn't Display Properly?

Answer»

I recently created a new profile for windows because my old one wasn't working properly. I managed to successfully transfer over all the files I needed, but internet explorer has a few kinks because I guess the software didnt update. Many of the pages I try to view have all the letters and images skewed to the left of the PAGE and are SEMI out of order. But for other pages, everything looks fine but I'll get this error message pop up.....

This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js

I'm sure that there's some kind of software update I need to do, but I have no idea what it would be. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm new to this, but I could provide a pic of it if further explanation is needed. Thanks in advance.Update your Flash Player....and Java.ok so i tried doing both but its still not completely functional. i think they (maybe just flash) let me try to update and then immediately gives me a notification that i've successfully updated my flash player..... but in reality i haven't. does anyone have any idea what is going on here?

oh yea, and alot of websites have pictures that just display a red X in the top left corner....Uninstall Flash, using this: http://kb.adobe.com/selfservice/viewContent.do?externalId=tn_14157
Install fresh copy.ive tried multiple times to uninstall and reinstall adobe flash, but its still not working. it did work for java though. is there anything else i can do? also, is the reason that some images only display a little x because i dont have flash installed? thanksDid you use the tool for my link to uninstall Flash?Yea I did, and I even just now tried it again. It seems to uninstall just fine, but Flash acts as if it installs completely, whereas in reality it doesnt. Is there something else I need/can do?Quote

This page requires AC_RunActiveContent.js

From what I'm reading, the above message indicates rather web page fault, than your browser issue.
Can you post couple of links, where it happens?www.rivals.com - This site always has that pop-up in the very beginning at the homepage, but after that i dont see the pop-up on any other pages within the site..... However if I try to go to a COMMIT list (such as this http://rivals100.rivals.com/commitlist.asp?Year=2009&School=7) there are no commits listed where they should be. The rest of the page looks fine, but the place where the players list should be is entirely blank.

http://digitaldreamdoor.nutsie.com/pages/music0.html - This site's homepage does not GIVE me this pop-up, its only when I go the music lists page... which I included. Also, many of the pictures here (not all) are blank and have a red X.

Also, sometimes pages will LOOK fine, but I may go to that same page at a later time and it will all be skewed. Or I may be able to view a video, but other times the video player wont even display. It's kinda like a hit or miss type deal.

Hope this helps a little. All the above sites work fine here in IE, and Firefox.

Close IE.
Go Start>All Programs>Accessories>System Tools, and click on Internet Explorer (no add-ons). Same thing?

What about Firefox?

Solve : AOL mail vs Internet explorer 7?

Answer»

Hi.

I recently bought a laptop, transfered my AOL account to it.

I try to access my email from AOL homepage and IE7 hangs. I access it from the AOL toolbar and it works.

I have asked AOL about this and they SAY its a problem with IE7 and microsoft, not them. I contact microsoft and I can't even GET a response.

Does ANYONE know why its hanging up and have any advice on what I can do about it?

Cheers, guys

Solve : Which is best for my computer?

Answer»

At PRESENT I have internet exployer 7,should I download exployer 8 instead?
ThanksNope, I'd stick with IE7 for now.

You could try Firefox, of course: http://en-gb.www.mozilla.com/en-GB/firefox/ Ok thanks, just wondering if my COMPUTER WOULD stop freezing at times if I downloaded the IE 8.I TRIED before to get firefox, but had problems and never could get it.I have Dell comp with windows Xp home edition. Thanks for the fast reply.IE8 is in beta stages. Never install betas on your main computer.

Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, amount of RAM (hold Windows logo KEY, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive letter, click "Properties")

Tell us more about freezing issues.Don't know if I did it correctly ,but this is what I have. 1.99GHz,256 MB of ram,pentium(R)4cpu 2.00 00G Hz,53 % free space,15.31 GB
thanks,Most likely, your computer freezes, because you don't have enough RAM.
XP'd like to have at least 512MB of RAM, 1GB ideally. Don't exactly know what Ram is,but is there anyway to correct this problem?I have the CCleaner, should I delete anything in that?If so what blocks should I check for it to clean up?Kinda a beginner with computers. You need to get more computer memory (RAM).Ok,that sounds easy. How do I do that If possible? What computer brand, and model is it? My computer is a Dell desktop with windows XP home edition, model 4550.I purchased it new in 2002.

Arg, Typo, I mean DOES.

FF3 results in the EXACT SAME PROBLEM.OK, TRY to get a new upload of FF.
They have made recent changes.
Also, Sea Monkey is a good alternative browser.
If you get the same problem with Sea Monkey, there has to be something wrong with that site.

Solve : yahoo messenger??????

Answer»

opened a session in MESSENGER to chat with friends but the computer is just writing messages and sending like this one "open dis ganda nakakatawa" can someone help is it viruses the cause or what pleaaaaaaaaaaaseVisit our Virus and Spyware section and follow the instructions at the top of the page.Bear in mind that this is an autorun worm. TRY to do as little as possible with the computer until it's clean. And also be sure to cleanup/disinfect or reformat any flash DRIVES you have used with FlashDisinfector.

You might want to run the below attached tool as well before running FlashDisinfector.

Flash DRIVE Cleanup

Download Flash Disinfector by sUBs and save it to your Desktop.

 • Double-click Flash_Disinfector.exe to run it.
 • Your desktop and icons may disappear. This is normal.
 • It will do a cleanup of removable STORAGE devices, and write a protected Autorun.inf file to help prevent re-infection.
 • Follow any prompts that may appear.
 • The utility may ask you to insert your flash drive and/or other removable drives including your mobile phone. Please do so and allow the utility to clean up those drives as well.
 • Wait until it has finished scanning and then exit the program.
 • There will be no GUI interface or log file produced.
 • Reboot your computer when done.
Note: Flash_Disinfector will create a hidden folder named autorun.inf in each partition and every USB drive plugged in when you ran it. Don't delete this folder...it will help protect your drives from future infection.

Solve : Need more screen space.?

Answer»

I am wondering if I can get more screen space by getting rid of some of the grey bars at the top of the screen, its just a waste of space as far as I am concerned. (See photo)

[attachment deleted by admin]Right CLICK the toolbar in FIREFOX and select "use small icons"...Try to right click on the bars you want to disable and uncheck them..Quote from: PATIO on January 20, 2009, 07:33:49 AM

Right click the toolbar in Firefox and select "use small icons"...

Close-

right-click and empty portion of the toolbar, select "Customize..." and click the "use small icons" checkbox.

if you REALLY want to have maximum screen space, try going fullscreen (F11)Darn...i'm just full of "almosts" lately...

It's a darn good thing I'm here, then!

Say did you hear the latest revelation on our favourite galactic feline in Don's? On my way now as we speak...Darn it- they weren't the same. Oh well. There's a firefox addon that condenses the toolbars, looks nice, and takes up a lot less space. Go to https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/3699 and download that theme. That second gray bar (it looks blank in your screenshot) is probably your Bookmarks Toolbar. You can drag a tab into it to save a bookmark, and/or put your favorite bookmarks in that AREA for quick access.

To turn it off, go to "View" in your menu, point to "Toolbars", and just uncheck it.Thank you everyone for the input. Lots of good ideas for what I wanted to do.

BC_Programmer and Hunter484 each had the solution I was looking for.

Hunter484's comment was what I wanted to do and BC_Programmer's F11 comment, was even BETTER and gave me a huge useable desktop space thanks heaps. No further comments required thanks.

Solve : Cannot access some sites?

Answer»

Hi, I'm not sure if this problem belongs in this section, my apologies if it doesn't. For about a week now, there are certain sites that I cannot visit no matter which Internet browser I use. Firefox tells me Address not Found and IE says Page cannot be displayed. I even downloaded Opera and still got the same thing. All the sites I try to access are .bg domain names, that means they are from Bulgaria (I'm Bulgarian myself). I am able to access these sites from other computers, which means that this is not a website-related problem. I have changed absolutely no settings on my computer, web browsers or settings for the way I connect to the Internet. I don't have a firewall, proxy, and I have scanned for viruses and all that and got nothing. Is this a problem from my ISP? Thanks. Download HijackThis:

If that doesn't work...
Download, install, and run WinSockFix: http://www.softpedia.com/get/Tweak/Network-Tweak/WinSockFix.shtml
Restart computer, and check again.I really appreciate your reply. A few DAYS ago I tried restarting the router and the computer, and it worked. Today I experinced the same problem, and tried the "netsh int ip" thing and it fixed the problem. It seems I am able to FIX it, but any idea as to why it might keep occuring? I'd suspect some hardware problem. Router/modem/network card.
If you're using router, try to connect straight to the modem for couple of days, and see, if connections holds.

Solve : IE Closes both Email and Link Upon Exiting Link?

Answer»

I receive a lot of links with my EMAIL because I belong to Tag groups.
When I open a link and then close it it CLOSES my email also. I looked at the Tab section in Internet Options and the box that says "Warn Me When Closing Multible Tabs" is checked.
What's going on here?
ThanksIs it happening with every link or just one? Thanks for responding.
I resolved the problem. I had downloaded a trial of WINZIP and with it a GOOGLE search and toolbar downloaded also. I removed the Google program and haven't had a problem since.Yea, Google toolbar is annoying SOMETIMES although I don't see how that could have been the problem....

Solve : History folder is not working?

Answer»

I have 20 weeks information showing and weeks 7-20 work fine , CLICK on them and down pop the websites. But it STOPPED storing information 6 weeks ago , when I click on say today or 2 weeks ago , nothing at all happens and it is a pain not being able to access my history. Anyone know what it could be?What is this? Internet Explorer?

It's possible the history is full. Why do you need history from 15 weeks ago?i cant imagine its full: but heres how you'd check if you don't know...

internet explorer menu bar across the top of the screen, select Tools>select Options>select General Tab>PRESS the Settings Button> make a note of Amount Of Disk Space To Use> Move the Slider to the right a little bit >Press The Apply Button>Press OK Button

close all instance of internet explorer, wait several seconds for your processor to catch up, and restart it and see if anything changed. Quote from: foggs on February 08, 2009, 01:36:00 AM

How can you say the above when you have no idea how much space he/she has allocated and how much he/she uses the net each day. He/she did say that there is 20 weeks of history and if there is a little space allocated and if there is some major surfing going on each day then it is indeed possible for the space to be completely taken.Quote from: foggs on February 08, 2009, 01:36:00 AM

I followed those and I noticed that in the settings it said ''Check for newer versions of stored pages'' and I had that switched to never , changed it to every time and now it seems to be storing my history again but it hasn't recovered anything from the last few weeks Oh well! Thanks for your help.

Solve : Silverlight?

Answer»

Hi. I USE Firefox on the Net. But when looking at Microsoft's Web site a box asking if I wanted to download Microsoft's SILVERLIGHT came up. Is it worth me doing that or do I not need it as I am using Firefox?
Thanks for any replies.Well, first of all I think you know but just in case - silverlight is not another web browser.

If you did a little browsing with my favorite search engine, then you would find some answers to your questions. I did a search but did not find anything that told me for sure if I need it. I think it is just for IE, but am not sure about that, which is why I asked.Well if you have Flash installed then there is no need for silverlight, so it's your choice really. Basically a choice between silverlight and flash. It's just another addon to liven up the web.

Have you heard of this neat thing called GOOGLE

Sorry I couldn't resist.No actually I haven't. What is it?Quote from: Mr. Google on February 09, 2009, 07:32:15 AM
No actually I haven't. What is it?

Well I would try to explain it but when I went to google and typed google as the search criteria the first link in the list was a link back to the search engine. So after spending some time trying to get out of the google loop I was stuck in I just decided to say to heck with it as I am sure that if any one can FIGURE out what google is you can.

Solve : IE7 Keep getting page cannot be found?

Answer»

IE7
Windows XP

Hi I moved our main computer and added a DLink wireless USB to it and disabled my Ethernet card

The DLink wireless connects fine and communicates with the modem however when I open Internet Explorer it will not find my home page nor will it find any other SITES just keep getting the Page cannot be found Error it just will not connect to the internet.

I disabled my fire wall (Comodo) but first made sure it was POINTING to the DLink which it was. I also checked that IE was an allowed programme which it was
I disabled AVG as well.
But I still get this PROBLEM it happens with Google Chrome and Mozilla as well, I checked the options in IE but could not see anything obvious that would restrict IE from accessing the internet.

I set my daughters comp up with an identical DLink wireless and IE, Mozila finds the internet and loads the home page.

I now do not know what to look for next any assistance would be appreciated

Solve : why do all the windows close when i close one??

Answer»

I'm new to this, so I'm sorry if I'm in the wrong place. When I have multiple windows open through the internet and I close ONE, they ALL close. I've poked around my computer trying to fix it, but I am pretty much computer illiterate. It is a problem when a window opens during an online purchase and it automatically closes when I click in it (it's not a pop-up, but for purchasing a warranty on electronics). Can anyone help using layman's terms?I assume, this is Internet Explorer? What version? What Windows version?
Try to disable all add-ons...
Tools > Manage Add-ons > Enable or Disable Add-onsI disabled all add-ons, and it seems to have worked. THANK YOU!! Now, you can start enabling them one-by-one.
Enable first one, open couple of IE windows, close one, and see if second one stays.
Repeat this procedure with each add-on, until you'll find the culprit.

Try Firefox, you may like it better.Quote from: kim1218 on February 09, 2008, 10:19:46 AM

Solve : firefox is messed up?

Answer»

Well two days ago Firefox messed up. My bookmarks and HISTORY disappeared and also it never shows the correct url. It also never STOPS loading a page. To fix it i have to uninstall it and REINSTALL it. Then that solves it until it happens again. A few MINUTES ago i reinstalled it and it happened immediately.

I have vista home premium (32 bit), 3 gb of RAM. If you need to KNOW anything else then ill be happy to give more.

Also When i reinstall firefox all of my history and bookmarks and such come back.

I also noticed that if i restart my computer twice firefox gets restored. Its really weird and annoying. Backup Firefox data with Mozbackup: http://mozbackup.jasnapaka.com/, then go with clean reinstall: http://kb.mozillazine.org/Uninstalling_Firefox

Solve : Locating Past Internet Searches?

I did not find anything in the previous posts that might come close to my question, so if there is an answer already, I apologize. What I am wanting to know, is there a spot in my computer that I can access that would show me all activity on the computer? The main thing I am looking for is previous internet searches. Searches that have been deleted from the temporary internet files FOLDER or even history.noWell, I did a bit of this and came across this.Quote

Where does this assumption come from in the description above ? ?Quote
Searches that have been deleted from the temporary internet files folder or even history.
I'm guessing he means the index.dat files there....Not everyone is familiar with index.dat files, and you can't delete them just by right click>delete.
You must USE some 3rd party program. CCLEANER will do, for instance. Also clearing your internet history does NOT do this...Ok, well lets see what he says...I doubt, anything will be said.

If you aren't going to even attempt to follow half of the advice given or even give a godd reason why not, and simply while and complain about something not working without so much as any background information as to the state of things when it did/didn't work, then there is no reason for anybody to waste their time trying to convince you how to fix your own machine.
