Solve : IE won't search?

Answer»

I am using Windows XP and so FRUSTRATED when searching the web. When i ENTER a search category, i.e. shoes, and then click on one of the sites found by Yahoo, IE gives me the "not responding" message and freezes. But I can type in the ADDRESS of a site or select a site from my list of favorites with no problem. It only locks up when i am selecting from the "hits" page of suggested sites. i have the same problem when using Yahoo through Firefox.

Would appreciate any advice i can get on how to fix this extremely annoying problem. Please, post some computer info:
- processor type, AMOUNT of RAM (hold Windows key, hit Pause/Break key)
- hard drive size/free space (open "My Computer", right click on hard drive LETTER, click "Properties")

Download HijackThis:
http://www.trendsecure.com/portal/en-US/tools/security_tools/hijackthis/download
Click on Download HijackThis Installer
Post HijackTHis log.hosanna, In addition to what Broni is suggesting. When you see the item you want to go to on the open page instead of the traditional left mouse click try to right click on the item and select "open in a new window" and tell us what happens. truenorth

Solve : Internet Won't Close?

Answer»

I GET on the internet and I can't close it after that. I had no virus detection for a while, but I did purchase some. I ran it and deleted the little that it found. I still cannot close the internet once I open it. Has this ever happened to anyone before - does anybody have any suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

the little that it found

You're making it sound as if it is reasonable to have a 'few' viruses on your PC.. It is not, viruses can cause damage to your files.

What virus scanner were you using?

I suggest you install a program such as Adaware SE or Spybot S&D

and have them remove any spyware that may be present. Note that Spyware is not the same as a virus and a trojan.THANKS for the response, I have done all of this. I have Adware as well as Norton- both are run periodically and nothing really turns up. I still have trouble with the internet.

Thanks
GabeDoes this affect your browser only or any Internet related software?

If it is only your browser, uninstall and reinstall your browser. It is just the browser, please forgive the ignorance, but how do I uninstall and install the browser, I understand how to uninstall programs, is it the same idea.
What do I need to reinstall it?

Thanks again,
You have been very helpful.

GabeFor Windows XP you go to Add/Remove Software and Internet Explorer should be present in the list. I am not certain if it goes this way on previous Windows operating systems. For XP it is in the windows components of the add and remove programmes.

For 9x it will be in the add remove programmes main menu when you open it. When you delete it, it should give you the option to repair.I am operating with Windows ME - which may the main problem....but someone suggested going through Windows UPDATES and see if that helps. It did not. I went and uninstalled IE and reinstalled the NEWEST version from microsoft, still no improvement.

You can try an alternate browser. Mozilla Firefox is a very good (FREE) browser which a lot of people prefer over Internet Explorer. Thanks for the suggestion, I have downloaded Mozilla and it closes properly so it must be a problem with Internet Explorer. Now the problem I have now is that Internet Explorer won't uninstall - there is actually no option to uninstall - in add remove programs I can only repair and a couple of other but no uninstall. And now all of a sudden a connection box comes up in which is trying to dial up to get a connection with Microsoft Internet Explorer - I don't even have dial up service - I have cable......any ideas.

Thanks
Gabe
1. Make sure Mozilla is selected as your default browser
2. Control panel/Internet options/Connections and select "Never dial a connection"
3. In the same dialog box, click LAN settings and select "Automatically detect settings"
4. Click OK, Apply, or whatever (but not Cancel) to back out gracefully.if anyone has a problem with enternet explorer not closing go to internet options then advanced then uncheck 3rd party browser extentions Quote from: Gabe Manchon on September 17, 2004, 05:28:41 PM

Solve : Flock browser? Did some 1 try it??

Answer»

This browser is totally new to me. If is good? If is FASTER than Firefox (or see monkey)? What do you think about this browser? here the link: http://flock.com/I played with it a little, but it's hard to beat Firefox, when it comes to functionality.I guess is enough for me to stick with Firefox (lately I have less trouble with SEAMONKEY than Firefox for streaming video)Flock and Mozilla both use the same code, which is actually a spin off of the now extinct Netscape browser. Flock is pretty much just a different version of Firefox and some Firefox extensions work with Flock.

Quote

Flock - Powered by Mozilla

Will Flock be powered by Firefox 3?

Flock 2.0 is now available and powered by the same technology as Firefox 3.

Do web pages render differently in the Flock browser than in Firefox?

Web pages render exactly the same in Flock as in Firefox.

Do my Firefox extensions work in the Flock browser?

Most Firefox extensions will work in Flock, with some exceptions. Additionally, extensions must declare themselves compatible with the latest versions of Flock and Firefox to work in either program. You can get Flock-specific extensions at extensions.flock.com.
I FIND it humorous that people STILL spend time trying to find a better browser than FireFox...
Even though Flock and SeaMonkey are their developments it seems futile. But for some reason, Firefox have trouble to stream video from youtube (I suppose this SINCE all my friend pc do the same)Not here.Quote from: xcharge50 on February 22, 2009, 12:59:35 PM

Solve : No access to Favourites?

Answer»

This has happened with my old system and has now again come up. It has been discussed in the forums but with no real solutions.

In IE 7, I cannot access my favorites under the Star Icon. They just do not show up. They do however show up in the menu bar under favorites, and I can access them there only.

Also, (since it was implied in another forum entry) I have moved the favorites file folders AROUND between "owner", "all users" and "DEFAULT users". Now everytime I access a file or document it shows up as a favorite automatically under the "star" icon in IE7. ?? What da Heck?

What should the system be set up like to ensure this works properly. And why did it change apparently for no reason originally? Can anybody help please?

I am using Windows XP home edition, as well. Moving the favorites folder around is probably the CAUSE of this issue...
Where does it reside now ? ?I went into the IE menu "file" under Import and export, and then exported the favorites to all three files, the "default," "all users" and "owner". This seems to have MADE it work.

When I imported them, it did not work, so I am just confused as to from where and to where files are moving when dealing with IE and files on C drive. I am not sure what the original configuration was or why it changed, but for now it works and will remember the next time this happens. I should try to recreate the "error" for knowledge sake, but...............nah.

Solve : Does this program exist??

Answer»

I am transcriptionist. One of the companies I work for has a first come, first serve BASIS policy. They post audio files on a soundpage, send out an e-mail and then it’s up to each transcriptionist to scramble to enter this username/password protected site.

Times are lean, as is the amount of work coming in. I have a food timer that reminds to check the soundpage every 3 minutes, and have even set it to remind me every 90 seconds to check the soundpage in HOPES of beating the e-mail that gets sent out and I still miss the audio files being posted.

I was wondering is there a program out there that would be able to automatically enter and exit the soundpage on a continuous basis and sound an alarm when audio files post? If this program exists, may I please have the name of it? Thanks for your HELP. Qwertylife
Just set your email app to play a sound when new mail arrives...The problem is that e-mail is not always reliable.

How do you access this sound page?Yes, thank you about the e-mail notifier, it's on and it tells me the sender of the e-mail, unfortunately, that's not enough.

The soundpage has a box for a username and password, which I all ready have stored on IE so I just need to place the cursor on the first line and then the info is automatically placed in and then I hit login. But even that is not fast enough. Thanks for your help. This may be intentionally SETUP on their end...
Create a new account and shorten both the PWord and User name...One wonders how these others are so quick...
Are they just watching the page all the time?HERE is an example of a site that offers what you might be need. The problem is, I don't know how much they will charge after the trial, or if the trial software is fully functional.

THIS is the search result I received when I searched in Google.

For Firefox there is an addon that refreshes the page every so often. Carbon has it. :p

As was said already, the servers sending the email mightn't be reliable. And even if they are not everyone is going to recieve the mail at the same time...One of many:

Solve : Page Setup in Explorer 7 - Help Needed for specific margin settings?

Answer»

I am trying to set up very specific margins and top/bottom spacing for an online passport application and IE won't let me. I have to print from the explorer window per the sites instructions. The ENTRIES I type in keep defaulting back to what IE wants as opposed to what I want.
I am trying to input .25 for the margins and .01 for the top and 0 for the bottom.
Can it be done?
All and any help is greatly appreciated. I'm under deadline. Go to File > Page Setup. Bottom left corner of the window should be what you're looking for.I've gotten that far and have put the values into the proper BOXES. What happens is they disappear after I click OK and go to values I didn't input. Is there a method by which I can FORCE the values to stay?Try File > Print > Preferences. ANYTHING?

Solve : FFv18.0, new tab goes to 9 options - per history, how to go to home page??

Answer»

I had this same issue with the previous version 17.?.? before I updated FIREFOX to v18.0 ~15 min ago.
When I open a new tab I prefer to GO to my home page (Goggle search), but FF shows a page with 9 windows of recently viewed pages. I'd rather go to Goggle search, which I can do by ticking the 'Home' icon in the menu bar. But this requires an extra click that I'd rather not be required to do. So how do I get it to access my home page when opening a new tab. I don't see an option for this in 'Tools/Options' tab?
Thanks for any help!
MikeOpen about:config, search for browser.newtab.url and enter whatever value you like. I use about:newtab which is a blank page.I'm not REAL smart on this but I entered "about:config" in the search bar and this is the screen I get; Attached.
What am I doing wrong?

Solve : streaming videos on youtube with only 1 GB of RAM.?

Answer»

I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. It has only one GB of RAM and I recently was told RAM can't be added to this system. When I watch videos on youtube my computer freezes more than 50% of the time. I have adjusted my screen appearance for max performance, I've tried keeping my browser history clear, I use readyboost. My question is, is there anything else I can do to STOP this freezing problem?
Also, I use internet explorer, comodo dragon, and bing. Do any of the above use less RAM than the others? Are there programs running that I can turn off to lower RAM use? I know 1GB isn't a lot of RAM to work with and since it can't be added, I'm looking for a short cut or two. Can write caching or virtual MEMORY be of any help here? Advice would be appreciated! I have never heard of more RAM solving the problem.
Do you get any error n messages? Check the event log to see if the crash was logged.
Which OS do you use? Is it up to date?
Are you using just one AV program? Which one?
Is this a recent problem?
Have you differently added more hardware?
Are you using third-party software that has not been certified? That includes many common utilities and games you get off the Internet.1G of RAM should be PLENTY for streaming...
Sounds more like a connection issue...that or limited free space on the HDD...
Also you stated you have all vid settings maxxed out...try throttling those back a bit and see if it helps.Quote from: sbreimer on January 07, 2013, 02:30:59 PM

Also, I use internet explorer, comodo dragon, and bing.
Internet Explorer is a web browser and comodo dragon is a web browser. Bing is a web site, not a browser. So, why did you lump the 3 together in that sentence?

Do you have both browsers open at the same time? Does one seem more prone to cause freezing than the other?

By freezing, do you mean just the video playing in your browser freezes or your computer freezes and you can't do anything with it?

Does the computer get noticeably warm before it freezes? Do you use the computer on a hard surface or what?

What specific model of Acer Aspire One Netbook do you have?
I guess you are using windows 7 which might consume almost all of your available ram. But since you are using readyboost, there shouldn't be a problem. I just want to suggest to you to disable start up programs and try it again for you to be confident that its not you're ram, I think its your internet connection...

Solve : The IE and Mozilla teams send each other cakes?

Answer»

When FIREFOX 2 was released the Internet Explorer team started a friendly tradition of SENDING Mozilla a cake as congratulations. This continued for Firefox 3 and Firefox 4. After Firefox switched from major releases once or twice a year to incremental updates every six weeks, they sent a cupcake for the next few updates instead. The Mozilla team decided to SEND Microsoft a cake for the release of IE10.

Solve : Hijacked web browser?

Answer»

Hello and welcome to 2013. I hope you had a great Christmas and New Years celebration.
What a way to start the year.
My browser has recently been hijacked by an unknown search (system), browser instruction, I don't know what?

Anyway, every time, (well not every time), I do a search now, this comes up (http://searchab.com/?aff=7&uid=e0867b3e-356b ) I wont put the whole thing in for safety reasons, I don't want anyone else to catch a cold from it. HMM maybe if I put it in TWO different pieces.. (356b-11e2-8359-000cf1d2125f&q=officeworks)

I looked for it in all the places I know of (which is pretty limited) so that I could delete it but I can't find it anywhere.

Ive done the usual scan with SAS and Malwarebytes, which only found a couple of potentials but that didnt get rid of it (yet).

Can someone give me a bit of insight of how to rid the computer of this annoyance please?

Solve : VPN problems (Google.se)?

Answer»

I have a VPN (Ipredator) and it works GREAT, however, once I disconnect I have some issues...
Ipredator is based in sweeden, so when I use it, it google.com redirects to google.se. This is understandable, and not an issue. However after I disconnect from the VPN, when using chrome, I have to MANUALLY edit all google pages from google.com to google.se or they don't load. I would just re install chrome, but this keeps on happening. I need a more permanent fix. I rarely use other BROWERS, and SINCE I don't use them often (Such as when I'm connected to the VPN) they work fine when I'm not connected. So as of late, when not connected to the VPN I use Firefox instead, but this is a hassle because it doesn't have my history, the same BOOKMARKS, etc.

Any Ideas?

Windows 7 x64 (OS)
Google Chrome (Browser)
Ipredator (VPN)
Any other info you need?

Thanks!

No because I like FireFox the best. Are you inside a school or other ORGANIZATION, or do you use a proxy?

At my school, there is a content filter/proxy (which I'm pretty sure has some glaring bugs...) that requires login with STUDENT ID / password. Some globally unblocked websites (such as youtube) will load, but the domains the videos are hosted on are unblocked when logged in. If you're not logged in to the filter, no video works, period. Issues similar to this are common with this particular proxy...

Bottom line: I see this issue often if you can access youtube.com, but you can't access the other related domains that youtube stores the actual videos on.Quote from: TechnoGeek on December 26, 2012, 04:02:49 PM

No, it doesn't, it just means you have Firefox set up differently on your laptop than on your desktop. Browsers are installed into each machine and alterations made on one machine will not affect another. It may means that Firefox on your desktop has been setup differently. As Allan suggested - Run FF in Safe mode. It looks like it was a problem with YouTube itself.

Because I just tried YouTube again on my desktop computer.

Solve : Firefox start page?

Answer»

I use Firefox start page as my home page (because of the Web/UK Only options, no longer available on Google).
I have Firefox v 17.0.1, the latest version, but every time I start I get the following message: "You're not on the latest version of Firefox. Upgrade today to get the best of the Web!" - I know it's no big deal but it has become very irritating and I can't find an easy way to stop it.
Any advice appreciated.
You may see that message below the Google search box on www.google.com/firefox which is the old Firefox default home page. Old as in used by Firefox version 3.6 and lower. It appears that page is no longer being maintained by Google, so if you want the present day Firefox home page set your home page to about:home

Thanks for reply Salmon Trout, but I don't understand the last part of your message - it has come through as: "if you want the present day Firefox home page set your home page to about:home" . Could you please CLARIFY. Thanks again.
Quote from: silkie on December 26, 2012, 02:59:35 AM

"if you want the present day Firefox home page set your home page to about:home" . Could you please clarify.

1. In the Firefox menu bar, click on Tools, then, in the menu that appears, click on Options.

Below (here, in this post) you should see an image of the Firefox Options dialog.

2. You will see Home Page: to the left of a text box. In that text box, erase whatever is in there, so that it is EMPTY, and type about:home in there. In the PICTURE above, you will see that I have not YET typed the final 'e' of the word 'home'. There is a reason for this. Directly you type that final 'e', Firefox will replace the completed about:home with "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" (in grey/gray) as you will see in the next image below.

3. Click OK.

An alternative way to do this is to click the "Restore to Default" button which is the rightmost button below the Home Page: text box, and then click OK.

Many thanks for full explanation - I was coming unstuck at stage 2 and the final "e". All ok now.If you intend to use Google as your default search engine, why not just set your home page to http://www.google.com/ ?Quote from: soybean on December 26, 2012, 09:09:50 AM
If you intend to use Google as your default search engine, why not just set your home page to http://www.google.com/ ?

I was wondering that myself.
Thanks for interest, soybean - the Google page stopped showing the web/uk search options some time ago and some time after that I changed to Firefox because it did have those options. I now see that the updated Firefox page doesn't have them either! I'll probably go back to Google.
Salmon Trout - your further post acknowledged. If you have a Google account (Gmail, etc) you can sign in and then you will be able to access search settings by clicking on the gear wheel icon at top right of the Google search page. In those settings you can specify and save a location e.g. "UNITED Kingdom" and when you search Google will put those results first.

Also, whether you are signed in or not, once you have a page of results, you can click the gear wheel, choose Advanced Search, scroll down, and you will see a section called "Then narrow your results by..." and you can select "region:" and choose "United Kingdom", and finally click the blue "Advanced search" button, thus achieving the same results as clicking the old "UK only" button, in five clicks instead of one.

I do have a Google account (never used) - thanks again for your tip.Quote from: silkie on December 26, 2012, 12:44:42 PM
I do have a Google account (never used) - thanks again for your tip.

Did you see I edited my post and added a second paragraph which applies whether or not you are signed into a Google account?
I did take note of your second paragraph suggestions - I am aware of these other options - just needed reminding of them. The five clicks instead of one is a bit of a bind! Once again, thanks. I find I can often get quite good results just by adding "UK" to the end of a search string, e.g. Samsung smart TV prices UK

Solve : Internet Explorer stuck on Connecting?

Answer»

When I open Internet Explorer, it puts the URL in the title like it does sometimes, and it says "connecting". Sometimes it will put the URL in the address bar, like it's loaded more, but it still says "connecting". I tried a shortcut to a DIFFERENT site too, same thing. If I click or try to close it or whatever, it says it's not responding. I tried another BROWSER and it works fine. I pinged google (my homepage) and it worked fine.

I don't know what's wrong, it worked yeserday!

Thanks. The most likely problem is that your modem is stuck and needs to be reset. Pull the plug, wait un minuto and plug the power back on.

If your internet come in on a Ethernet connection, reboot in safe mode with networking and see what you get. Another browser works fine. Wouldn't it not work too if the problem was with the modem? You may be INFECTED...

Run internet explorer without add-ons also and check the difference.

It loaded a "Internet Explorer is running without add-ons" page, which I assume is a system file, not a webpage (So it didn't need much power to load it). So I clicked the Home button like it said and it loaded in a second (which is probably half because it loaded IE already, and half because it didn't have add-ons). This I believe is irrelevant anyway, because I have not added anything for a long time, and it was perfectly fine the day before.

Update: I tried it today, with add-ons, it took forever but it finally loaded. I'm using it to post this now. So it loads, but it's extremely SLOW, and it wasn't like that the day before yesterday. I've missed my monthly cleaning (cache, etc) for a long time, I'll try to do it this week. Do you think that could be it?Sounds like the addons are the issue here...
Review them...and keep only what you need...I reviewed them, some I don't know what they are, so I kept them, the ones I did know what they were I needed, so I didn't get rid of any. XD

I just finished cleaning my computer, and now it seems around normal speed, so I GUESS that was it?

my operating system is windows xp

thanks so much! any help/suggestions WOULD b greatly appreciated !!

JenniferWhat browser? And have you tried installing Firefox browser vs Internet Explorer and give that a try?

Guessing you have run all system updates from www.microsoft.com so you are running SP3 and all latest updates?

Have you tried running Malwarebytes on this computer which is free to use for personal use to verify that you are not INFECTED with malware? (For the fact that you are not being redirected to another site etc, I believe you may just have a browser issue. And installing Firefox might fix this.)

Solve : browser font is too small?

Answer»

the font (the "file, edit, view, history, bookmarks, tools, help, address bar font) lettering is too SMALL I want to make it bigger, I already know about the "CRTL-+ keyboard" that changes the font in what you see on the webpage, I am talking about the font for the address bar ,menu bar,ETC I have win 7 64 ,firefox 17.0.01 I hope someone can help, I can't find anything to change this to a bigger font. Right click the desktop, and choose "personalize"

On the bottom, there should be a "Window COLOR" option. Choose it.

At the bottom of that screen, choose the "Advanced Appearance Options" Option. Another dialog should show up.

To change the size of the menu, change the selected item in the "Item" Combobox to "Menu"; then you can change the size of the font from the options underneath, and click "apply".

Hope this helps

thanks solved, I guess I asked this question before but didn't remember it, changed computers and I don't use this site very often
so if you noticed I asked this before forgive me and thanks for sending answer.

Solve : IE Explorer page opens (takes a while) then cannot open any links on page?

Answer»

Internet explorer opens and I type in a website address.
It takes forever for the website to open.
Then once opened it shows the site but you cannot click on any of the items to navigate anywhere else.
I uninstalled the IE updates to earlier versions, did updates to newer versions, ran virus scans. I am stumped.

Firefox works just great!

I need IE for a number of my business websites in order to run quotes etc.

Thank you.Have you tried IE with no Add-ons (Programs - Accessories - System Tools)? All add-on's and toolbars are DISABLED.

I also reset everything to what is set up when you first get Internet Explorer-all their settings. Still not working!Same question - have you tried running IE (No-Add ons) as described above?Internet explorer opens and I cannot get any links or even the tools on the toolbar to work, when I try clicking on them. It totally does not work now. What should I do?

Firefox works fine. ThanksThe possibility does exist that your IE has a malicious infection. To deal with that issue you should proceed to the virus/malware forum on CH and experts there will try to assist you. However not knowing what version of IE is causing the issue if you don't have the most current version applicable to your O/S you could try an update. CONVERSELY if you do have the most current you could try going back to an earlier version. If you want to go back here is a link to a site that offers older versions of a great deal of apps. But, not for her "business websites". Well of course the O/P may wish to correct my impression however what i gathered from the post is that for whatever the reason she does NOT wish to use another browser for her "business" accounts other than IE. So whether they work in Firefox is not relevant in this instance as i believe she feels she MUST use IE. Could be wrong but that is what i get from her post.truenorth
P.S. Otherwise i would have suggested using Opera but constrained by the desire to use only IE i responded in the manner i did.Thank you for your responses. I did try going back to an earlier version of Explorer and going to the newest and I think you are right-that I may have a virus or malware of some SORT in explorer. I will got to that forum and see if I can get help. I thought my anti virus and malware programs would get rid of something like that.

To answer your question regarding needing IE for some of my business website-I am an insurance Agent and many of my carriers like Liberty Mutual's site will not show all features and information on other BROWSERS. I have never heard of Opera but will try that.

Do you have recommendations regarding this browser? Thank you again for taking the time.Obviously your priority would be to get a browser functioning in the manner that will provide the full data exposure that you need.At the moment you can try other browsers to determine if that can be achieved. However in trying that there is nothing to prevent you posing your issue on the CH malware/virus forum. There are only a limited number of very qualified members that are PERMITTED to assist members with those type of issues there. Whereas on all the other forums any other member regardless of expertise can respond with varying degrees of competency. Be prepared for a lengthy process as they are very thorough over there. Meanwhile you can try Opera. Here is the link

She said she can't use Firefox for the business sites because those sites won't display correctly in Firefox. That's the issue, not simply that she "feels she MUST use IE."

I use Opera a lot and sign on to my Allstate Insurance account, bank account, etc., with it, but I can't guarantee it will work with the insurance site you mentioned since such browser incompatibility issues do still arise. However, I do believe the problem of browsers other than IE not working with certain financial websites has diminished as IE has lost the dominance over the web browser arena it once had and, consequently, web developers are more prone to make their sites compatible with other browsers.

that I can stop this from happening. It is most annoying as many of the email addresses on my list have changed over the years due to people changing them because of SPAM, and Yahoo consistently tries to FILL in the address that is no longer there. Solve : Internet explorer icon dead?

Hi,
My internet explorer icon doesn't work in W-7
I used unhide and rebooted and still not working. This has worked for me before. If I could find
another IE icon maybe this would work.In the XP windows the icons I could find.
Any ideas out there? What HAPPENS if you go to START - RUN and type: iexplore.exe (then press ENTER)?Thanks allen,
When I do that it puts an icon on the taskbar that is dead. What you MEAN is that it opens Internet Explorer and you can see it in the taskbar, but when you click on the taskbar nothing happens, is that correct? If so, try right-clicking on the IE Taskbar item and choose "maximize". What happens? When I r-click on IE in taskbar the only options are IE 64bit,pin to ,and close window.
I have w-7Please go to Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, Internet Explorer (No Add-ons). Does that OPEN?

If not, please boot to safe mode and open Internet Explorer there. Then SIZE it to MAXIMUM and close it. Then reboot to normal mode and try IE.IE won't open there Just a flash acrossed the screen and that's it.

I downloaded IE and that didn't help either.I just got rid of a trojan so I thought maybre I couldn't
use system restore. It did work just after the date of getting rid of trojan. Thanks for your input.Glad you got it fixed. In the future, if you run into a problem not long after your system was infected, PLEASE mention that in your FIRST post.

Solve : Google Talk Plugin?

Answer»

I'm not sure if this belongs in here or in software, but since it's a browser plugin, I decided to post in here. I am having an issue on my communications PC. The Google Talk plugin is proving to be... difficult. When I acquired this PC, it had a bunch of group policy restrictions, and was joined to a domain, and I have since removed all of those - I do not have a WinXP installer disc.
I downloaded the Google Talk plugin so that I could make phone calls within Gmail. Well, once that was done, I refreshed Gmail so the plugin could load. It did not. I still got "Download the voice plugin". Google Chrome's task manager reported the plugin running, but knowing that the plugin library launches the executable, and that the task manager only checks the status of the library, I decided to check in Windows Task Manager for the executable. Guess what? Not running. I've seen the solution on Google Product Forums to TRY running the executable manually to create "googletalk_port" on the HDD. That worked... until I tried to open a call window on Gmail. Then googletalkplugin.exe TERMINATED from my Windows Task Manager and the above mentioned file disappeared. I've been digging on Google for hours, and found nothing. So does ANYONE have any ideas? I'm on a WinXP machine, an HP/Compaq tc4400 (with second battery and Bluetooth MODULE) if you really want the hardware specs. Need any more info, LET me know. Thanks in advance - I use GTalk phone a lot.

Solve : Wireless network connection Problem?

I am having a problem with my wi-fi connection. My lap top connected successful to all the wi-fi NET work in the airports and hotels. I am having this problem only in my house. Previously I use to have different internet provider and it was perfectly connected with no problem at all. My lap top is Toshiba- Satellite U505 Model. I have tried to use different browsers Google chrome, fire fox, explorer same result. One more thing when I connect my laptop through the wire to the same router it works fine...Any help will be appreciated . Good morning Beta and welcome to CH

It sounds like you are trying to connect using the wrong network protocol.

What I mean is there is different wireless security levels. There is WEP, WPA, WPA2 etc what is your operating system most of those models came with Windows 7 is that what you have?

If Toshiba is still using the configfree manager or it is windows wireless connection you just select your home wireless network connection and put in the pass-phrase / network password. A LOT of cable companies do not have you put in a user name and password unless you have a DSL internet connection.

Hopefully this helps, please let us know if we can be of any more service. Mike Thanks Mike for your reply, it is Win7 that I am using correct. but I could not follow your step clearly as when I select my home wirless net work every thing looks fine, it did not ask for a password. See snap shots

The image is too small to read...Try downloading MiniToolBox by Farbar while currently established a connection from your computer. Run the program and checkmark all options. Copy PASTE the result on your next reply.First try via the command prompt to release and renew the IP maybe it could be conflicting.

Solve : Porbably a dumb question!?

Answer»

I'm running XP on an older laptop (Dell) with the latest version of Firefox. I'm also running the latest version of CCleaner. My QUESTION is this, when I run CCleaner it shows a lot of files for IE like temp internet files ect. However I never use IE. can someone please tell me what is happening in the background, and is there any way to remove IE from my system completely? IE is embedded in Windows. I have not seen a successful method to remove it myself and still have Windows function properly. As LONG as you perform security updates and have firefox also up to date with its updates and have Firefox as your default browser, the only way IE could be a problem is if malware explicity calls for IExplore "www.google.com" where google is replaced with a nasty URL using redirection to a website that can take advantage of an IE exploit, and start IE on your system and hit that nasty site which usually will take advantage of exploit and then send in a payload such as trojan horse etc. Surfing the web thru Firefox you should be pretty safe as long as you dont downoad a problem thru that that uses an IE Explicit Redirection instruction. Firefox has a pretty good antivirus built into it, but I also always double check downloads with another AV to be safe. The only issue with XP is that its COMING to an end for security updates, so you might want to GO with Vista, 7, or 8 or Linux to stay supported and secure.Programs for windows can actually 'embed' IE into them. Windows Explorer does a bit of this too, and other parts of windows depend on components of IE. Because of this too, it's not safe to remove it completely (if possible). This 'embedding' behavior may be related to your temporary internet files issue. Another thing is that http(s):// URLs accessed with windows explorer (e.g. to open an image file) will go through IE or on of its components and create temporary internet files.Thank you both very much! Which would be better to upgrade to from XP , Vista or 7?First you need to find out if your hardware is compatible with W7. Then you need to find out if there are drivers available for W7. If EITHER of those answers is no, your choice is limited.Thank you! I will check on the compatibility of my hardware!

Solve : can't open e mails?

Answer»
Hi everybody,
My wife can't open her e mails on her Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7 and INTERNET EXPLORER 8. She can get to the inbox but when she clicks on an EMAIL nothing happens except a notice of an error on the page. There is also a strange colored horizontal line across the chosen selection instead of the usual ink color. On the advice of a website offering suggestions,I installed Firefox and the e mails work fine with that. And the problem only happens on her computer, not mine or any other. So it only happens with one computer and Internet Explorer 8. I have TRIED several virus and malware scans and they show no problem. Any ideas about this problem would be appreciated. thanks. CharlesWhat does the error say? If it works in Firefox, I'd say use that instead. It has a much better security record that internet explorer.

......or try Internet Explorer 9.Thanks for the replies. The error MESSAGE is the same every time. "error occured on page". I tried installing Internet Explorer 9. still the same problem. I also did the Internet Explorer reset. I havn't tried "restore advanced settings" Is that included under the IE reset? Thanks againTake a look here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings-in-Internet-Explorer-9

Solve : "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working..."?

Answer»

At times I get the message "INTERNET Explorer has stopped working and is trying to resolve the problem." I have to wait awhile until it gives me the option to "End Program", which I do, which simply resumes what I had been doing. In some cases it had deleted what I had entered. For years, this would happen on only on one site - Photobucket. Last week it happened on a NEW site I had just JOINED - Topix. Today it happened on my HOMEPAGE (Comcast), while trying to read my email which I do everyday. What is happening? What can I do?Find out what version of IE you have and run the REPAIR procedure available at the MS site...

Solve : Should I use I.E. 9 or 8 ??

Answer»

Need expert suggestions as to which to install. I hear views for & against both. Help !
I have Windows 7.They are the same program - IE9 is obviously newer. Use whichever you like.IE9, being newer, will be more likely to get critical security updates sooner than IE8 (not that microsoft is necessarily fast about that anyway) and will be supported longer. Some websites may ALSO look better in IE9 due to updates and new features.IE9 was RELEASED in March 2011, or 1 1/2 YEARS AGO. And, of course, you've been prodded by Windows Updates to get IE9. So, why stick with IE8?

Solve : Constant This webpage is not available across multiple sites?

Answer»

Starting a few days ago, 3 out of every say, 5 times I try to load webpages on Chrome this type of message will show up:

This webpage is not available
The connection to www.npr.org was interrupted.
Here are some suggestions:
Reload this webpage later.
Check your Internet connection. Restart any router, modem, or other network devices you may be using.
Add Google Chrome as a permitted program in your firewall's or antivirus software's settings. If it is already a permitted program, try deleting it from the list of permitted programs and adding it again.
If you use a proxy server, check your proxy settings or contact your network administrator to make sure the proxy server is working. If you don't believe you should be using a proxy server, adjust your proxy settings: Go to the wrench menu > Settings > Show advanced settings... > Change proxy settings... > LAN Settings and deselect the "Use a proxy server for your LAN" checkbox.
ERROR 101 (net::ERR_CONNECTION_RESET): The connection was reset.

This happens all throughout the day and night across many websites. Anything from Facebook, stupid little meme pages, even my school's webstudy site. I have only had this type of issue once before asking me to change proxy settings and that was with yahoo messenger but I went in and did what this asks and it didn't help. No one else in the house is having this issue (Wired in or wirelessly connected). I can refresh a page over and over and eventually it will load but it's getting very annoying and I'm just hoping there's some sort of fix out there.

TIAWelcome to CH Justdej.
Does it happen on wireless or wired? Have you tried other browsers?
Download MiniToolBox and select all options.
A notepad will open then copy-paste the report on your next reply.
I am connected wirelessly, I checked fire fox, it doesn't apprear to be popping up with the same error but when loading some pages the formatting is messed up.

Thankyou Can you run the laptop by wired to check on the difference? It might be other users are hogging the bandwith or most likely streaming videos and downloading (uttorent) at the same time. When on wireless, check your wifi icon status by system tray if its not getting the red x or being disconnected intermittently. I will give it a try wired and give feedback but even when I am the only one home and online it seems to still be happening. I am the only one with netflix, utorrent and the like though I don't run either anymore from my laptop.1 Drive c: () (Fixed) (Total:81.11 GB) (Free:6.59 GB) NTFS
Your drive is also running out of free space. You have Firefox 8(?), might as well update it to version 16. Make sure your wifi is secured and no one is piggy backing. Depending on your router model features, try changing channel http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/21132/change-your-wi-fi-router-channel-to-optimize-your-wireless-signal/ and try clearing your cache files http://www.piriform.com/ccleaner/download/standard

Check your wifi status icon (red x) when you get timeouts on websites.Suprised Windows even boots/operates with those #'s...
Good rule of thumb is approx 15% of total drive space should be free...
Good catch jason.

Solve : google chrome................?

Answer»

running windows xp and having problem with chrome---keep seeing "can't load plug-ins" on webpages. i am a novice to computing and have not been getting any luck with solving this problem. can anyone help, please? Does this HAPPEN on all web pages or on web pages with certain features, such as streaming video that requires Adobe Flash PLAYER? as far as i have noticed, all web pages. i was just over to youtube and it says same thing.Well, since youtube is full of content requiring Flash Player, that suggests you don't have the Flash Player plug-in installed and enabled in Chrome. Visit http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=142064 and do some reading there. Might solve your problem. Have you tried reinstalling your chrome browser and what version are you CURRENTLY using? SEE also here regarding google chrome's flash player plug-in. the version listed is the following: 22.0.1229.94

i have been over to the chrome plugins site, but, not sure what i am looking for. it lists a number of different plugins like adobe, etc. i have not tried reinstalling chrome, but, will give it a shot.ok, reinstalled google chrome. that seems to have done the TRICK. thanks so much for the help! appreciate it very much! Your Welcome.

Solve : Hotmail sign in page?

Answer»

Morning!

Yesterday I thought I'd clean my pc up and delete my temp internet files, cookies etc from Internet options.
Why did I bother, I should have left it wallow in PEACE (

Ever since then |I cannot OPEN Hotmail sign in page to access my emails.
Everytime I tried I get a blank page with yellow TRIANGLE at the bottom toolbar.
I deleted my shortcut (in case something had gone wrong with that) and tried various Hotmail sign in pages through DIFFERENT search engines but nothing, still the same "empty page"
I looked at hotmail problem page but nothing wrong with hotmail status. so it must be my PC.
Tried to join this site to post message and you have to confirm your registration by emai which i can't access.
I almost cried, so here I am around at my daughters using her laptop and low and behold I can access Hotmail okay from hers.

I cannot work out whats gone wrong with my PC but am hoping somone can help on here.

The Error message that comes up is as follows;

'currentStyle' is null or not an object.

Login_Core.js Line:1
Code:0 Char:11273

URL:https://secure.shared.livecom/~Live.SiteContend.JD/~16.4.22/~/~/~/~/js/Login_Core.js

Many thanks in advance for any help!!

Exactly how did you go about deleting temp internet files, cookies, etc.? That should not have caused this problem and it normally will not. So, there's something weird about your situation.

What browser are you using? Have you tried a different one? Thanks Raj, I have treid to access my account on another persons pc and can get in with no problem.

Soyabean.

I deleted the temp files etc through internet options the same as I usually do. I have no problems opening other web sites, only hotmail, which is very strange!
I am using internet explorer 8 and do not use another browser.

Any suggestions? It just seems really silly as if it's knocked out some setting or something

GailDo you have software called DivX Player installed? Yes I have, is it something to do with that?Try running IE8 after disabling add-ons..

Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No
Add-ons) to start IE8 without any add-ons. Try using the browser and see if
the same problem arises.

If the problem does not occur again, start IE8 normally, go to Tools (if the
menu bar does not appear, hit the Alt key on the keyboard) > Manage Add-ons.
Disable all the add-ons under 'Toolbars and Extensions'. ENABLE each add-on
one at each time and see if the problem occurs again. Once it occurs again
after enabling an add-on, we have the bug in our hand.

Maybe. Soybean, your a star, I have deleted the program and hotmail page opens fine!!
Real huge thanks, so appreciate it )
