Solve : IE won't search? |
Answer» I am using Windows XP and so FRUSTRATED when searching the web. When i ENTER a search category, i.e. shoes, and then click on one of the sites found by Yahoo, IE gives me the "not responding" message and freezes. But I can type in the ADDRESS of a site or select a site from my list of favorites with no problem. It only locks up when i am selecting from the "hits" page of suggested sites. i have the same problem when using Yahoo through Firefox. |

Solve : Internet Won't Close? |
Answer» I GET on the internet and I can't close it after that. I had no virus detection for a while, but I did purchase some. I ran it and deleted the little that it found. I still cannot close the internet once I open it. Has this ever happened to anyone before - does anybody have any suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. the little that it found You're making it sound as if it is reasonable to have a 'few' viruses on your PC.. It is not, viruses can cause damage to your files. What virus scanner were you using? I suggest you install a program such as Adaware SE or Spybot S&D and have them remove any spyware that may be present. Note that Spyware is not the same as a virus and a trojan.THANKS for the response, I have done all of this. I have Adware as well as Norton- both are run periodically and nothing really turns up. I still have trouble with the internet. Thanks GabeDoes this affect your browser only or any Internet related software? If it is only your browser, uninstall and reinstall your browser. It is just the browser, please forgive the ignorance, but how do I uninstall and install the browser, I understand how to uninstall programs, is it the same idea. What do I need to reinstall it? Thanks again, You have been very helpful. GabeFor Windows XP you go to Add/Remove Software and Internet Explorer should be present in the list. I am not certain if it goes this way on previous Windows operating systems. For XP it is in the windows components of the add and remove programmes. For 9x it will be in the add remove programmes main menu when you open it. When you delete it, it should give you the option to repair.I am operating with Windows ME - which may the main problem....but someone suggested going through Windows UPDATES and see if that helps. It did not. I went and uninstalled IE and reinstalled the NEWEST version from microsoft, still no improvement. You can try an alternate browser. Mozilla Firefox is a very good (FREE) browser which a lot of people prefer over Internet Explorer. Thanks for the suggestion, I have downloaded Mozilla and it closes properly so it must be a problem with Internet Explorer. Now the problem I have now is that Internet Explorer won't uninstall - there is actually no option to uninstall - in add remove programs I can only repair and a couple of other but no uninstall. And now all of a sudden a connection box comes up in which is trying to dial up to get a connection with Microsoft Internet Explorer - I don't even have dial up service - I have cable......any ideas. Thanks Gabe 1. Make sure Mozilla is selected as your default browser 2. Control panel/Internet options/Connections and select "Never dial a connection" 3. In the same dialog box, click LAN settings and select "Automatically detect settings" 4. Click OK, Apply, or whatever (but not Cancel) to back out gracefully.if anyone has a problem with enternet explorer not closing go to internet options then advanced then uncheck 3rd party browser extentions Quote from: Gabe Manchon on September 17, 2004, 05:28:41 PM I get on the internet and I can't close it after that. I had no virus detection for a while, but I did purchase some. I ran it and deleted the little that it found. I still cannot close the internet once I open it. Has this ever happened to anyone before - does anybody have any suggestions. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Why are all these people bumping old topics? Jeez. |

Solve : Flock browser? Did some 1 try it?? |
Answer» This browser is totally new to me. If is good? If is FASTER than Firefox (or see monkey)? What do you think about this browser? here the link: http://flock.com/I played with it a little, but it's hard to beat Firefox, when it comes to functionality.I guess is enough for me to stick with Firefox (lately I have less trouble with SEAMONKEY than Firefox for streaming video)Flock and Mozilla both use the same code, which is actually a spin off of the now extinct Netscape browser. Flock is pretty much just a different version of Firefox and some Firefox extensions work with Flock. Flock - Powered by MozillaI FIND it humorous that people STILL spend time trying to find a better browser than FireFox... Even though Flock and SeaMonkey are their developments it seems futile. But for some reason, Firefox have trouble to stream video from youtube (I suppose this SINCE all my friend pc do the same)Not here.Quote from: xcharge50 on February 22, 2009, 12:59:35 PM But for some reason, Firefox have trouble to stream video from youtube (I suppose this since all my friend pc do the same) For some reason, is workinf fine today....I guest the problem was from youtube itself I got curious and gave Flock a try. Definitely a worthy contender. - Nothing sneaky tried to install - Imported ALL of my Firefox settings, not just some - Lot's of cool features - If your into social sites you'll love it, Facebook etc.. I'll keep it around. I use it too If you do alot of Social Networking its a must Atleast give it a try |

Solve : streaming videos on youtube with only 1 GB of RAM.? |
Answer» I have an Acer Aspire One Netbook. It has only one GB of RAM and I recently was told RAM can't be added to this system. When I watch videos on youtube my computer freezes more than 50% of the time. I have adjusted my screen appearance for max performance, I've tried keeping my browser history clear, I use readyboost. My question is, is there anything else I can do to STOP this freezing problem? Also, I use internet explorer, comodo dragon, and bing.Internet Explorer is a web browser and comodo dragon is a web browser. Bing is a web site, not a browser. So, why did you lump the 3 together in that sentence? Do you have both browsers open at the same time? Does one seem more prone to cause freezing than the other? By freezing, do you mean just the video playing in your browser freezes or your computer freezes and you can't do anything with it? Does the computer get noticeably warm before it freezes? Do you use the computer on a hard surface or what? What specific model of Acer Aspire One Netbook do you have? I guess you are using windows 7 which might consume almost all of your available ram. But since you are using readyboost, there shouldn't be a problem. I just want to suggest to you to disable start up programs and try it again for you to be confident that its not you're ram, I think its your internet connection... |

Solve : The IE and Mozilla teams send each other cakes? |
Answer» When FIREFOX 2 was released the Internet Explorer team started a friendly tradition of SENDING Mozilla a cake as congratulations. This continued for Firefox 3 and Firefox 4. After Firefox switched from major releases once or twice a year to incremental updates every six weeks, they sent a cupcake for the next few updates instead. The Mozilla team decided to SEND Microsoft a cake for the release of IE10. Have some Cake...Qu'ils mangent de la brioche |

Solve : YouTube videos not playing in FireFox (help)? |
Answer» This wasn't happening yesterday but now it is. Have you tried any other browsers?truenorth No because I like FireFox the best. Are you inside a school or other ORGANIZATION, or do you use a proxy? At my school, there is a content filter/proxy (which I'm pretty sure has some glaring bugs...) that requires login with STUDENT ID / password. Some globally unblocked websites (such as youtube) will load, but the domains the videos are hosted on are unblocked when logged in. If you're not logged in to the filter, no video works, period. Issues similar to this are common with this particular proxy... Bottom line: I see this issue often if you can access youtube.com, but you can't access the other related domains that youtube stores the actual videos on.Quote from: TechnoGeek on December 26, 2012, 04:02:49 PM Are you inside a school or other organization, or do you use a proxy? Uh... no. I'm at home.Quote from: AlwaysScrewed on December 26, 2012, 04:14:02 PM Uh... no. I'm at home. Are you running any plugin-blockers, ad-blockers, or script blockers? If you run 'ping ytimg.com' from a command prompt (Start -> Run -> cmd) it should look something like this: Code: [Select]C:\Users\Blah>ping ytimg.com Pinging ytimg.com [67.215.65.132] with 32 bytes of data: Reply from 67.215.65.132: bytes=32 time=88ms TTL=56 Reply from 67.215.65.132: bytes=32 time=87ms TTL=56 Reply from 67.215.65.132: bytes=32 time=87ms TTL=56 Reply from 67.215.65.132: bytes=32 time=87ms TTL=56 Ping statistics for 67.215.65.132: Packets: Sent = 4, Received = 4, Lost = 0 (0% loss), Approximate round trip times in milli-seconds: Minimum = 87ms, Maximum = 88ms, Average = 87ms If it says request timed out then you're not connecting to youtube's content server.Quote from: TechnoGeek on December 26, 2012, 05:45:09 PM Are you running any plugin-blockers, ad-blockers, or script blockers? Nope. I'm not. Also... I just tried it on my laptop, which also has FireFox 17.0.1 and it's working fine. Which means it's some sort of issues on my desktop computer. Try running Firefox (SAFE Mode) and see what happens.Quote from: AlwaysScrewed on December 26, 2012, 05:57:58 PM Also... I just tried it on my laptop, which also has FireFox 17.0.1 and it's working fine. Which means it's some sort of issues on my desktop computer. No, it doesn't, it just means you have Firefox set up differently on your laptop than on your desktop. Browsers are installed into each machine and alterations made on one machine will not affect another. It may means that Firefox on your desktop has been setup differently. As Allan suggested - Run FF in Safe mode. It looks like it was a problem with YouTube itself. Because I just tried YouTube again on my desktop computer. It's working fine now. Solve : Firefox start page? |
Answer» I use Firefox start page as my home page (because of the Web/UK Only options, no longer available on Google). "if you want the present day Firefox home page set your home page to about:home" . Could you please clarify. 1. In the Firefox menu bar, click on Tools, then, in the menu that appears, click on Options. Below (here, in this post) you should see an image of the Firefox Options dialog. 2. You will see Home Page: to the left of a text box. In that text box, erase whatever is in there, so that it is EMPTY, and type about:home in there. In the PICTURE above, you will see that I have not YET typed the final 'e' of the word 'home'. There is a reason for this. Directly you type that final 'e', Firefox will replace the completed about:home with "Mozilla Firefox Start Page" (in grey/gray) as you will see in the next image below. 3. Click OK. 4. Now you have set your home page to the current Mozilla Firefox Start Page as shown below. An alternative way to do this is to click the "Restore to Default" button which is the rightmost button below the Home Page: text box, and then click OK. Many thanks for full explanation - I was coming unstuck at stage 2 and the final "e". All ok now.If you intend to use Google as your default search engine, why not just set your home page to http://www.google.com/ ?Quote from: soybean on December 26, 2012, 09:09:50 AM If you intend to use Google as your default search engine, why not just set your home page to http://www.google.com/ ? I was wondering that myself. Thanks for interest, soybean - the Google page stopped showing the web/uk search options some time ago and some time after that I changed to Firefox because it did have those options. I now see that the updated Firefox page doesn't have them either! I'll probably go back to Google. Salmon Trout - your further post acknowledged. If you have a Google account (Gmail, etc) you can sign in and then you will be able to access search settings by clicking on the gear wheel icon at top right of the Google search page. In those settings you can specify and save a location e.g. "UNITED Kingdom" and when you search Google will put those results first. Also, whether you are signed in or not, once you have a page of results, you can click the gear wheel, choose Advanced Search, scroll down, and you will see a section called "Then narrow your results by..." and you can select "region:" and choose "United Kingdom", and finally click the blue "Advanced search" button, thus achieving the same results as clicking the old "UK only" button, in five clicks instead of one. I do have a Google account (never used) - thanks again for your tip.Quote from: silkie on December 26, 2012, 12:44:42 PM I do have a Google account (never used) - thanks again for your tip. Did you see I edited my post and added a second paragraph which applies whether or not you are signed into a Google account? I did take note of your second paragraph suggestions - I am aware of these other options - just needed reminding of them. The five clicks instead of one is a bit of a bind! Once again, thanks. I find I can often get quite good results just by adding "UK" to the end of a search string, e.g. Samsung smart TV prices UK |

Solve : Internet Explorer stuck on Connecting? |
Answer» When I open Internet Explorer, it puts the URL in the title like it does sometimes, and it says "connecting". Sometimes it will put the URL in the address bar, like it's loaded more, but it still says "connecting". I tried a shortcut to a DIFFERENT site too, same thing. If I click or try to close it or whatever, it says it's not responding. I tried another BROWSER and it works fine. I pinged google (my homepage) and it worked fine. You may be infected... "Use a proxy server for your LAN"? I'm not sure what you're talking about, but all the boxes are unchecked. Quote from: jason2074 on December 24, 2012, 08:29:10 AM Run internet explorer without add-ons also and check the difference. It loaded a "Internet Explorer is running without add-ons" page, which I assume is a system file, not a webpage (So it didn't need much power to load it). So I clicked the Home button like it said and it loaded in a second (which is probably half because it loaded IE already, and half because it didn't have add-ons). This I believe is irrelevant anyway, because I have not added anything for a long time, and it was perfectly fine the day before. Update: I tried it today, with add-ons, it took forever but it finally loaded. I'm using it to post this now. So it loads, but it's extremely SLOW, and it wasn't like that the day before yesterday. I've missed my monthly cleaning (cache, etc) for a long time, I'll try to do it this week. Do you think that could be it?Sounds like the addons are the issue here... Review them...and keep only what you need...I reviewed them, some I don't know what they are, so I kept them, the ones I did know what they were I needed, so I didn't get rid of any. XD I just finished cleaning my computer, and now it seems around normal speed, so I GUESS that was it? |

Solve : IE Explorer page opens (takes a while) then cannot open any links on page? |
Answer» Internet explorer opens and I type in a website address. I need IE for a number of my business websites in order to run quotes etc. These websites you're referring to are not websites developed by you, they are major websites published by various companies. Is that right? How many websites are you talking about? Can you name some? I have a hard time believing none of them can be properly viewed with Firefox. soybean, "Firefox works just great!" truenorthQuote from: truenorth on December 12, 2012, 09:19:57 AM soybean, "Firefox works just great!" truenorthBut, not for her "business websites". Well of course the O/P may wish to correct my impression however what i gathered from the post is that for whatever the reason she does NOT wish to use another browser for her "business" accounts other than IE. So whether they work in Firefox is not relevant in this instance as i believe she feels she MUST use IE. Could be wrong but that is what i get from her post.truenorth P.S. Otherwise i would have suggested using Opera but constrained by the desire to use only IE i responded in the manner i did.Thank you for your responses. I did try going back to an earlier version of Explorer and going to the newest and I think you are right-that I may have a virus or malware of some SORT in explorer. I will got to that forum and see if I can get help. I thought my anti virus and malware programs would get rid of something like that. To answer your question regarding needing IE for some of my business website-I am an insurance Agent and many of my carriers like Liberty Mutual's site will not show all features and information on other BROWSERS. I have never heard of Opera but will try that. Do you have recommendations regarding this browser? Thank you again for taking the time.Obviously your priority would be to get a browser functioning in the manner that will provide the full data exposure that you need.At the moment you can try other browsers to determine if that can be achieved. However in trying that there is nothing to prevent you posing your issue on the CH malware/virus forum. There are only a limited number of very qualified members that are PERMITTED to assist members with those type of issues there. Whereas on all the other forums any other member regardless of expertise can respond with varying degrees of competency. Be prepared for a lengthy process as they are very thorough over there. Meanwhile you can try Opera. Here is the link http://www.opera.com/download/ Let us know how things go,good luck, truenorth Quote from: truenorth on December 12, 2012, 02:33:52 PM Well of course the O/P may wish to correct my impression however what i gathered from the post is that for whatever the reason she does NOT wish to use another browser for her "business" accounts other than IE. So whether they work in Firefox is not relevant in this instance as i believe she feels she MUST use IE.She said she can't use Firefox for the business sites because those sites won't display correctly in Firefox. That's the issue, not simply that she "feels she MUST use IE." Quote from: SuzanG on December 15, 2012, 06:46:19 PM I have never heard of Opera but will try that. Do you have recommendations regarding this browser?I use Opera a lot and sign on to my Allstate Insurance account, bank account, etc., with it, but I can't guarantee it will work with the insurance site you mentioned since such browser incompatibility issues do still arise. However, I do believe the problem of browsers other than IE not working with certain financial websites has diminished as IE has lost the dominance over the web browser arena it once had and, consequently, web developers are more prone to make their sites compatible with other browsers. |

Solve : Porbably a dumb question!? |
Answer» I'm running XP on an older laptop (Dell) with the latest version of Firefox. I'm also running the latest version of CCleaner. My QUESTION is this, when I run CCleaner it shows a lot of files for IE like temp internet files ect. However I never use IE. can someone please tell me what is happening in the background, and is there any way to remove IE from my system completely? IE is embedded in Windows. I have not seen a successful method to remove it myself and still have Windows function properly. As LONG as you perform security updates and have firefox also up to date with its updates and have Firefox as your default browser, the only way IE could be a problem is if malware explicity calls for IExplore "www.google.com" where google is replaced with a nasty URL using redirection to a website that can take advantage of an IE exploit, and start IE on your system and hit that nasty site which usually will take advantage of exploit and then send in a payload such as trojan horse etc. Surfing the web thru Firefox you should be pretty safe as long as you dont downoad a problem thru that that uses an IE Explicit Redirection instruction. Firefox has a pretty good antivirus built into it, but I also always double check downloads with another AV to be safe. The only issue with XP is that its COMING to an end for security updates, so you might want to GO with Vista, 7, or 8 or Linux to stay supported and secure.Programs for windows can actually 'embed' IE into them. Windows Explorer does a bit of this too, and other parts of windows depend on components of IE. Because of this too, it's not safe to remove it completely (if possible). This 'embedding' behavior may be related to your temporary internet files issue. Another thing is that http(s):// URLs accessed with windows explorer (e.g. to open an image file) will go through IE or on of its components and create temporary internet files.Thank you both very much! Which would be better to upgrade to from XP , Vista or 7?First you need to find out if your hardware is compatible with W7. Then you need to find out if there are drivers available for W7. If EITHER of those answers is no, your choice is limited.Thank you! I will check on the compatibility of my hardware! |

Solve : Yahoo Mail upgrade problem? |
Answer» I opted yesterday to install the Yahoo Mail up grade. I was then requested to VERIFY my ACCOUNT. That did not work as a message said I was not authorized as I VIOLATED the Terms of Service. SINCE then no emails have entered my Inbox, even when I sent a trial email from Outlook Express using another email address. I have asked Yahoo Customer Service what went wrong with no reply as yet. |

Solve : can't open e mails? |
Answer» Hi everybody, My wife can't open her e mails on her Compaq laptop. It has Windows 7 and INTERNET EXPLORER 8. She can get to the inbox but when she clicks on an EMAIL nothing happens except a notice of an error on the page. There is also a strange colored horizontal line across the chosen selection instead of the usual ink color. On the advice of a website offering suggestions,I installed Firefox and the e mails work fine with that. And the problem only happens on her computer, not mine or any other. So it only happens with one computer and Internet Explorer 8. I have TRIED several virus and malware scans and they show no problem. Any ideas about this problem would be appreciated. thanks. CharlesWhat does the error say? If it works in Firefox, I'd say use that instead. It has a much better security record that internet explorer. ......or try Internet Explorer 9.Thanks for the replies. The error MESSAGE is the same every time. "error occured on page". I tried installing Internet Explorer 9. still the same problem. I also did the Internet Explorer reset. I havn't tried "restore advanced settings" Is that included under the IE reset? Thanks againTake a look here: http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/windows7/Reset-Internet-Explorer-settings-in-Internet-Explorer-9 |

Solve : "Internet Explorer has Stopped Working..."? |
Answer» At times I get the message "INTERNET Explorer has stopped working and is trying to resolve the problem." I have to wait awhile until it gives me the option to "End Program", which I do, which simply resumes what I had been doing. In some cases it had deleted what I had entered. For years, this would happen on only on one site - Photobucket. Last week it happened on a NEW site I had just JOINED - Topix. Today it happened on my HOMEPAGE (Comcast), while trying to read my email which I do everyday. What is happening? What can I do?Find out what version of IE you have and run the REPAIR procedure available at the MS site... |

Solve : google chrome................? |
Answer» running windows xp and having problem with chrome---keep seeing "can't load plug-ins" on webpages. i am a novice to computing and have not been getting any luck with solving this problem. can anyone help, please? Does this HAPPEN on all web pages or on web pages with certain features, such as streaming video that requires Adobe Flash PLAYER? as far as i have noticed, all web pages. i was just over to youtube and it says same thing.Well, since youtube is full of content requiring Flash Player, that suggests you don't have the Flash Player plug-in installed and enabled in Chrome. Visit http://support.google.com/chrome/bin/answer.py?hl=en&answer=142064 and do some reading there. Might solve your problem. Have you tried reinstalling your chrome browser and what version are you CURRENTLY using? SEE also here regarding google chrome's flash player plug-in. the version listed is the following: 22.0.1229.94 |

Solve : Hotmail sign in page? |
Answer» Morning! Yesterday I thought I'd clean my pc up and delete my temp internet files, cookies etc from Internet options.Exactly how did you go about deleting temp internet files, cookies, etc.? That should not have caused this problem and it normally will not. So, there's something weird about your situation. What browser are you using? Have you tried a different one? Thanks Raj, I have treid to access my account on another persons pc and can get in with no problem. Soyabean. I deleted the temp files etc through internet options the same as I usually do. I have no problems opening other web sites, only hotmail, which is very strange! I am using internet explorer 8 and do not use another browser. Any suggestions? It just seems really silly as if it's knocked out some setting or something GailDo you have software called DivX Player installed? Yes I have, is it something to do with that?Try running IE8 after disabling add-ons.. Go to Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > Internet Explorer (No Add-ons) to start IE8 without any add-ons. Try using the browser and see if the same problem arises. If the problem does not occur again, start IE8 normally, go to Tools (if the menu bar does not appear, hit the Alt key on the keyboard) > Manage Add-ons. Disable all the add-ons under 'Toolbars and Extensions'. ENABLE each add-on one at each time and see if the problem occurs again. Once it occurs again after enabling an add-on, we have the bug in our hand. Regards, RajQuote from: Bellasmum on October 16, 2012, 11:33:50 PM Yes I have, is it something to do with that?Maybe. See http://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windowslive/forum/hotmail-wlsecurity/current-style-is-null-or-not-an-object/9b7d1ce9-62dd-48b1-8437-0437998d0fc4?msgId=5cc973a0-4a06-426c-b5c1-7efb0337c2bb; it indicates some users have discovered a problem signing in to Hotmail with DivX Player installed. Thanks rajhelp really appreciate the time you've spent trying to help out ) Soybean, your a star, I have deleted the program and hotmail page opens fine!! Real huge thanks, so appreciate it ) |
