Solve : Firefox Downloading Issue? |
Answer» Quick, simple question. Try unchecking close it when all downloads are finished. Its on FF browser menu, Tools - Options - General tab.It is unchecked already. Quote from: Rob Pomeroy on November 09, 2011, 10:08:43 AM Pressing Ctrl-J should bring up the downloads box - are you saying that's completely empty?Yes, after it has been DLed, the download box is empty and I have to manually go into my downloads folder, I cannot directly access it. Any solutions?Quote the download box is empty and I have to manually go into my downloads folder, I cannot directly access it.Quote Try unchecking close it when all downloads are finishedRight-click the exe file from the unclosed download box and choose open file containing folder.Found this one though I have not used it yet https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/magic-open-download-folder-but/Since day one, I've never LIKED my downloads to be socked away somewhere in the computer. It's easy, on the first page of the TOOLS in Firefox to tell it to send all downloads to the Desktop. Then you know where they are and they are easy to find, use and put away wherever you wish. I keep a shortcut to a folder on my D: drive on my desktop, for downloads that I'm done with. Make life easy on yourself and put things where they are easy to find. EH? I can suggest two things: 1. Use Chrome instead of FireFox. It is much more lightweight and user friendly. FF is a strong browser with a long history, though I happily switched to Chrome a couple of years ago and since then use FF only for web development and alike. 2. Use Total Commander. In case you decide to STICK to FF and still can't manage to sort out the download box, TC will make your life easier, as there you can easily bookmark any location on your PC. Go to options -> privacy tab -> use custom settings for history -> check remember my download history Think that should do it.My problem with mozilla is its very slow when it comes to downloading...that's why I went back to Google Chrome which is much better . . . Quote from: paulahendricks on December 09, 2011, 08:48:46 PM My problem with mozilla is its very slow when it comes to downloading...that's why I went back to Google Chrome which is much better . . . If anybody knows why sometimes IE9 sometimes thinks your download is insecure and automatically deletes it without any confirmation (after doing a security scan on it)??Quote from: Linux711 on December 05, 2011, 05:22:45 PM Go to options -> privacy tab -> use custom settings for history -> check remember my download historyJust did it, thanks man! |

Solve : IE8 Video display problem on some sites? |
Answer» Hi! McAfee is Virusscan Enterprise 8.5.0iCan you check this link if its the same version with patches available also : Release NOTES for VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i Patch 8 I am also looking into using another free antivirus software after uninstalling McAfee for testing purposes. Do you know how to determine which patches have been applied to McAfee? I found the "repair installation" option in tools on McAfee and used it. It said that it returns the software to the state it was upon installation and removes updates, patches and customizations. Upon the completion of that I manually used update to get to the latest levels again, but patches aren't mentioned other than to say that they are undone when doing a"repair installation". The browser acts the same as before. I'm trying to find the Virusscan CD so I can delete it and reinstall if necessary. Thanks for the response.Quote Do you know how to determine which patches have been applied to McAfee?Disregard the previous link on 8.5i patch 8 as further looking shows 8.5.0i is different. Looking at this site McAffee Product and Support Life Cycle, your current antivirus version support will end by Dec. 31, 2011. A newer version 8.8 with all the latest patches/hotfix. This could be a TIME to try and use other FREE antivirus. Avira, Avast, Microsoft Security Essential, AVG. So uninstalling this time would be commended. See this link also https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB55208Thanks for the info on McAfee going out of support. I completed deleted it an installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ran a scan that detected nothing - good! The bad news is that IE8 continues to not display the sites mentioned earlier.Quote I don't have any spy blockers running but I have used a variety of clean up applications after a virus attack. I searched for akamai in the files on my hard drives and also in the registry but didn't find anything. I am out of ideas other than this where you could be infected or someone else may jump in to clear your problem. I see a sign of redirection in between this post. Do you want to be checked by a Malware expert for further checking on your computer?I'll accept any help I can get. I have HiJackThis installed and the following is the log GENERATED by it. Solve : 'Send' and 'Save as a Draft' not completing? |
Answer» I have the occasional problem with Firefox that when I click on 'Send' for an email I have COMPOSED, the circle next to the arrow shows something is happening but it does not complete. I have the same problem occasionally with 'Save as a Draft'. It happens on both computers I use with different versions of Firefox.I tried again with the same composed email but this time I got an error message from YahooMail when I clicked on 'Send' and also when I clicked on 'Save as a Draft'I tried 'Send' again and this time it worked. It is a nuisance to have this problem only occasionally. YahooMail Help may provide guidance. Just for the record, Firefox is just a browser and a WAY to get to your email SERVICE, and has nothing to do with your email problems. It sounds like you NEED to talk to Yahoo. This may be a sign that your internet connection is dropping occasionally (e.g. if you're using a wireless connection which is at low signal strength). I think it's unlikely that a webmail service provider will be able to assist you. |

Solve : Help! Why is it that I cant stream online videos one after another?? |
Answer» Hi, my computer is new, and I've been wondering what is my problem here. Everytime I want to click on a new link to watch another video, my internet browser window stops responding so it gets jammed and I always have to restart the browser just to stream the next video. I TRIED to use a DIFFERENT browser, like firefox but the same problem still occurs. Travel to SpeedTest and run the online test...Did you do this? What was the result? How about some info on your computer specifications? What OS? How much RAM? What CPU? Size hard drive? Free SPACE on hard drive? And, on the software side, what Internet security protections are you running? Another thing to ask is where are you clicking on the next video? Within the current player window? (Many sites have clickable thumbnails that display other videos related to the one you just watched) Or somewhere else? (Links outside the video player, like down the side of the screeen or links below the video) Have you tried reinstalling Flash Player?Do you have the most up-to-date version of flash installed? I think they're up to v11.1.102.55 now. |

What version of Windows are you running?XP Home Edition. The file you are looking for should look something like this when you open it in Notepad: Quote # Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp. For Windows XP, it should be located in: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc The file is just called "hosts", it has no extension (like exe or ini, etc.).The file that I sent is called 'HOSTNAME'; there are no others with 'host' in them at all. What is in the folder c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc ? There should be several files there. None of them have EXTENSIONS and they all have short names like hosts, networks, protocols, etc. Since they don't have extensions, clicking to open any of them will result in Windows asking you what to open them with. Choose Notepad. Alternatively, you can go to Start->Run... and copy and paste this into it: c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hostsQuote from: quaxo on November 21, 2011, 05:20:09 AM What is in the folder c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc ?This is what I did and I got the result as shown above. If you copy and paste that into the run box like I said, you would not get the result shown above. You got the result above likely by searching for "host" and finding "hostname.exe" which is in a completely different directory with a different file name. Copy and paste that last line I posted into the run box and you will be able to open the hosts file. That's "hosts", with an 's', not "host". c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hostsHope this is the one: # Copyright (c) 1993-1999 Microsoft Corp. # # This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows. # # This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Answer» Quote Huh?Not sure what you meant by that.Quote from: jason2074 on NOVEMBER 15, 2011, 12:02:12 AM Not sure what you meant by that.Your sentence that I quoted didn't MAKE SENSE, and still doesn't. Quote All 3 known or popular browsesr today are BETTER.What 3? Better than what? Quote from: jason2074 on November 13, 2011, 11:52:00 PM All 3 known or popular browsesr today are better. I have to agree with soybean on this, it's vague, and regardless of what the ambiguity resolves to (what three browsers?) it's simply wrong. How would IE, Firefox, Safari, or Opera be more "secure" than Chrome, and on what basis did you come to this conclusion? And Why only compare to three, when there are at least four others in common use (noted above). The OP asked this :Quote Is chrome a secure browser to open critical pages like online banking? My response : Quote All 3 known or popular browsesr today are better.forget the typo error. That is the purpose of QUOTING before I made that statement. It is generally directed to the query without being more specific. She asked secure and I said all 3 (of course without definitely naming) are better that most computer users know IE ,FF or Goggle Chrome. It is a recommendation not a comparison. Of course being popular means widely used and better today means later/latest versions more stable, compatible to different Windows OS (XP to 7)except for IE9 which is for Vista and Win 7 system only. |

Solve : SEND delays? |
Answer» The system is windows 98SE. I composed an email in Yahoo and then clicked on SEND. The circle started to rotate at the top RH. A message appeared down on the LH bottom 'date transmission to no.bc.yahoo.com' and this went on for minutes. A message showed the email had been saved some time before but when I tried to SAVE nothing happened, presumedly because the SEND was still being processed. I copied the email to Word and then shut down and re-booted. The SEND worked this time. I have had this problem before. I expect that it is because of something I am doing - what? This is free Yahoo! Mail account, right? You use your web browser for email, right? So, where does the no.bc.yahoo.com come into play here? I am using Firefox. I draft an email in Yahoo and then click on SEND. Normally Done comes up on the bottom LH panel while Message Sent comes up near the top LH. HOWEVER, when the problem occurs, no.bc.yahoo.com comes up and the Message Sent does not and the circle in the RH top keeps going around.Unfortunately, I don't know what's causing that and I could not find good references on this problem. Here's a forum topic which is basically the same problem but the topic got no replies. See http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19121294-yahoo.com-hangs-on-us.bc.yahoo.com- I am using Firefox.Try this suggestion courtesy from http://noscript.net/faq#qa3_7 Quote
Quote from: denisaf on February 24, 2011, 05:31:34 PM I have another computer with Windows 7. I believe my best move is to always use it for Internet and this one for Word and Excel.Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with that. And, if your version of Microsoft Office will run with Windows 7, just install it on the newer system and make a complete transition. Noscript cannot be installed for my version of Firefox 2.20 which is the latest that can be installed with Windows 98. It seems that I cannot avoid these problems with such an old system. I have procrastinated in transferring to the Windows 7 computer because I have so much on the 98 computer that needs organizing yet I am very busy meeting commitments. Thank you for the advice and i will get on with the job! |

Solve : Internet IP Address? |
Answer» I was wondering when using dialup I seem to have address that consists of four set of numbers with three periods separating the numbers into four groups and the first two groups of numbers never seem to change only the last two group of numbers change, my question is it seems some places know this is the same address even if the ending numbers change is this correct? If the places you are referring to are web sites, then those places are using cookies to track your computer. What does this have to do with the question ? ?^ PLEASE carefully read the part I bolded. I merely explain the possible reason on how those places still recognize his computer (the same address) even if his IP address was changed. Quote from: John1397 on February 17, 2011, 06:23:09 PM I was wondering when using dialup I seem to have address that consists of four set of numbers with three periods separating the numbers into four groups and the first two groups of numbers never seem to change only the last two group of numbers change, my question is it seems some places know this is the same address even if the ending numbers change is this correct? Some body correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen cookie numbers and IP address are totally different and independent from each other.@rthompson80819: When did I say they are the same? I was trying to offer one possible explanation as to how some places still recognize his computer even after the IP address change.Quote my question is it seems some places know this is the same address even if the ending numbers change is this correct?A number of websites offer certain services to identify your current IP address(Static or Dynamic). And its not called an Internet IP address but only IP address. http://whatismyipaddress.com/ Some ISPs give you a static IP to your account. However, no the first two SETS merely identify the ISP. ISPs purchase a certain range of IP addresses to hand out to their customers. Eg doing a WHOIS on my ip shows this: inetnum: 118.93.0.0 - 118.93.255.255 netname: IP-VFNZ-BROADBAND-2 descr: Dynamic IP allocation pool for broadband services This shows that any address in the 118.93.*.* range belongs to my ISP, Vodafone New Zealand. Websites track who you are by using 'cookies' to store your information Every time you get online with Dial-up your IP changes. This can fool some websites. But if REALLY want to get rid of time limit from websites like rapidshare or megaupload then I would advice to use this addon for firefox Cookie editor - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/add-n-edit-cookies/ It can add and edit cookies. Just search for the right cookie and deleting it will make your IP look fresh for the websitehey, Correct me if im wrong: to explain the four set of numbers with three periods separating the numbers means that your ISP uses IPv6 addresses. As for the last two that keeps on changing it is the number that IDs the HOST which is you, so the last two will keep on changing to the range allocated to your ISP. Quote from: charezTech on February 22, 2011, 04:43:52 AM
That's an IPv4 address format. An IPv6 address is represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits, each group representing 16 bits (two octets). The groups are separated by colons ( : ). An example of an IPv6 address is: 2001:0db8:85a3:0000:0000:8a2e:0370:7334 Quote from: Geek-9pm on February 17, 2011, 06:31:29 PM The set of four numbers with dots can be called. Solve : I CANT GO TO CERTAIN WEBSITES? |
Answer» I have windows XP professional IE8 also Mozilla firefox & Click Start If that's all normal, then maybe you'll want to try resetting IE or making a new firefox profile. And lastly, if then that doesn't help, you may have a malware or something on your pc needs taken care of. That's what I think, hopefully it'll help. If you're still stuck, maybe someone else has a BETTER idea I think you should check your setting from browser tools option !!Some virus MANIPULATES or hijacks the web browser causing to block websites. But please do 1st their recommendation above and post the result of your testing. If when you opened the IE page and it said IE cant display the web page, try this; Go to control panel, network and internet, internet options, on the internet properties windosw, youll have some options, on the first ONE that is general, you have the option to delete cookies, then go to connections, and there is an option tha said Dial up and virtual private network settings, there must not be any network, it must be empty, then pressed on the same option where u are, connections, the lan settings option and check if there is an option marked where said proxy server, there must not be any check marked, and at last optimized your browser, go to the last option advanced and click on reset, it works to me........I suppose this thread is officially dead unless sigmundf comes back Hi, or maybe those websites were diabled/blocked by your administrator, which contain certain words or description... what kinda websites are you trying browse? if social then.... |

Solve : temp internet file and cookes? |

Answer» Are temp internet files and cookies always recoverable after they are history is deleted ? I know downloads are always recoverable. This may be helpful: http://www.wikihow.com/Recover-Deleted-History-in-Windows I know downloads are always recoverable. No, they aren't, unless you mean going to the source and downloading them again. Or if what you are actually referring to in this statement "I know downloads are always recoverable." are files which you have deleted to the recycle bin and then emptied the recycle bin. If that is what you are meaning then there are no "windows" embedded programs that will accomplish that. HOWEVER there are many 3rd PARTY software programs that WILL do so (with LIMITATIONS). truenorthThank you for responding but you really didn't answer the most important part of the question which was; Are temp files and cookies that have been deleted recoverable with 3rd party softwareDoes an external drive copy just selected files, folders etc or can it copy entire drives. They, after all, are simply files. To answer Hambones question in simple terms, files or information, are not deleted when you hit the delete key, rather it's like a book index or table of contents, and you are DELETING the index reference, not the actual file. The file is still there (you just don't see it) until you over write it with another file. Recovering deleting files was one of the first uses for Peter Norton software, and now Symantic. |

Solve : can someone hack into computer?? |
Answer» Hi, or can someone hack in and make it look like those sites were searched for on my compute I very much doubt any kind of hacker would find it exciting to hack into your computer and make it look like you visited certain websites. Donot confuse hackers with your own mistakes. You most likely have spyware installed. Install a virus scanner, spyware scanner and a firewall. Read these articles for a better understanding on Internet and security related subjects How Stuff Works - Security Channel How Stuff Works - Internet Channelyou could try this to find out>http://www.hackerwhacker.com.nyud.net:8090/freetools.phpI sound really dumb sayin it, but MOST free software from the internet is kind of useless. Not all though! Bust most require you to unlock its features by paying, but it will only perform BASIC tasks in free mode. Norton SystemWorks 2005 and Norton Internet Security 2005 is a good idea to give a chance... [glb]Flame[/glb]did you try that site flame? Not only did flame avoid looking at the site, but he's also MISSED out on the Windows port of The GIMP, which was originally a Linux photo-editing app. It's just as powerful (if not moreso) than Photoshop, and is free. He's also probably missed out on OpenOffice, which yet again is arguably so much better than MS Office, and approximately $399.99 cheaper (price according to MS online shop). In other words, also free. Pretty much every app that's been ported from Linux is avaliable open-source. http://www.gimp.org * http://www.openoffice.org * (And no, it isn't a PORN site. Trust me)Quote Bust most require you to unlock its features by paying, but it will only perform BASIC tasks in free mode. Retail software usually requires to be activated in 30 days or requires a keycode at installation Never given that any thought...? Stop downloading Warez.. Quote but MOST free software from the internet is kind of useless. From this post I will assume that Mr. Wisecra... I mean, Flame, has tried most free software avaible on the Internet? |

Solve : Adobe flash player crashed repeatedly? |
Answer» I ASSUME it's only crashing with high volume streaming on flash? Following the release of Firefox 3.6.4 we heard from some users, mainly those using older computers, that they sometimes expect longer periods of non-responsiveness from plugins, especially with games. For these users the default timeout of 10 SECONDS was too short. To address this, we increased the amount of time Firefox waits for a plugin to respond before terminating it from 10 to 45 seconds. http://blog.mozilla.com/blog/2010/06/26/firefox-3-6-6-now-available-for-download/ It looks like a lot of people might be having issues with the latest version of flash crashing: http://forums.adobe.com/thread/666489?tstart=0I tried again today to watch espn3 on my laptop. Invariably the program crashed after a few MINUTES. Also, it will stop or lag often as I watch. I have tried reinstalling firefox 3.6.12 which is supposed to have crash protection. I have reinstalled over and over adobe flash player the latest version. I have gone into adobe settings and unchecked hardware acceleration and I have changed it to 1 mb. Nothing is working. This is very aggravating as there are tennis tournaments coming up I would like to watch on my computer, etc. I saw in the forum that many people have had this problem and no one knows how to fix it. Any new ideas from anyone? I have dsl internet connection on an acer laptop with 4 gb of ram, 320 gb hard drive and wireless is in the house but I am fully wired up to my connection. Thanks for any help I get.I hate to pass the buck, but I suggest you contact Verizon support and see if they have any thoughts.A very recent update to Flash Player is available. It's version 10.1.102.64.I had the same problem with flash player crashing when viewing events on espn3. I decided to uninstall flash player and reinstall it. I discovered that I actually had flash 10 and flash 10.1 installed. Apparently when I upgraded to flash 10.1 it left the old version behind, too. So I uninstalled both. Then I ran a registry scan and repair. I also discovered that there is a developers release for flash 10.2. You can find it here: http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/ So far, this seems to have resolved my issue. Flash not longer CRASHES, and version 10.2 has very good performance! Hope this helps. |
