Solve : Only one statement getting executed?

Answer»

Hi

I want to run all the test cases in all the test suites of all the projects in one click in SOAPUI. I want to write the RESULTS in a file. i.e. want to generate a report for all the projects.
I have written a .bat file with below content. But this is EXECUTING only first command and creating only one that is ProjectName1.txt file. Please help.

"C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\testrunner.bat" -s"TestSuiteName1" -r -a -J -fC:\Dev\reports -I C:\TestSuites\ProjectName1-soapui-project.xml > ProjectName1.txt
"C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\testrunner.bat" -s"TestSuiteName2" -r -a -j -fC:\Dev\reports -I C:\TestSuites\ProjectName2-soapui-project.xml > ProjectName2.txt

Thanks. In your batch, in the first line you hand over control PERMANENTLY to testrunner.bat. Control will never come back. In a batch if you want to run another batch and get control back, you use the CALL statement.

Code: [SELECT]CALL "C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\testrunner.bat" -s"TestSuiteName1" -r -a -j -fC:\Dev\reports -I C:\TestSuites\ProjectName1-soapui-project.xml > ProjectName1.txt
CALL "C:\Program Files\eviware\soapUI-3.6.1\bin\testrunner.bat" -s"TestSuiteName2" -r -a -j -fC:\Dev\reports -I C:\TestSuites\ProjectName2-soapui-project.xml > ProjectName2.txt

Solve : Firefox Downloading Issue?

Answer»

Quick, simple question.
Firefox is my browser.

When I got to download something from firefox (say perhaps CCleaner, anything), I get a download box which pops up, I click download.
All good, but once I finish downloading, the pop up box is empty, I can't access the file.

In order to find it what I must do is go to the download folder on my computer...it takes a few extra steps.
It didn't use to be this way, is there anyway to make this easier so that when I download from firefox, and finishes I can simply click it from the pop up screen?Try unchecking close it when all downloads are finished. Its on FF browser menu, Tools - Options - General tab. Pressing Ctrl-J should bring up the downloads box - are you saying that's completely empty?Quote from: jason2074 on NOVEMBER 05, 2011, 10:46:42 PM

Try unchecking close it when all downloads are finished. Its on FF browser menu, Tools - Options - General tab.
It is unchecked already.

Yes, after it has been DLed, the download box is empty and I have to manually go into my downloads folder, I cannot directly access it.
Any solutions?Quote

Right-click the exe file from the unclosed download box and choose open file containing folder.Found this one though I have not used it yet https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/magic-open-download-folder-but/Since day one, I've never LIKED my downloads to be socked away somewhere in the computer.
It's easy, on the first page of the TOOLS in Firefox to tell it to send all downloads to the Desktop.
Then you know where they are and they are easy to find, use and put away wherever you wish.

I keep a shortcut to a folder on my D: drive on my desktop, for downloads that I'm done with.
Make life easy on yourself and put things where they are easy to find. EH?

I can suggest two things:

1. Use Chrome instead of FireFox. It is much more lightweight and user friendly. FF is a strong browser with a long history, though I happily switched to Chrome a couple of years ago and since then use FF only for web development and alike.

2. Use Total Commander. In case you decide to STICK to FF and still can't manage to sort out the download box, TC will make your life easier, as there you can easily bookmark any location on your PC.
Go to options -> privacy tab -> use custom settings for history -> check remember my download history

Think that should do it.My problem with mozilla is its very slow when it comes to downloading...that's why I went back to Google Chrome which is much better . . . Quote from: paulahendricks on December 09, 2011, 08:48:46 PM

If anybody knows why sometimes IE9 sometimes thinks your download is insecure and automatically deletes it without any confirmation (after doing a security scan on it)??Quote from: Linux711 on December 05, 2011, 05:22:45 PM

Solve : IE8 Video display problem on some sites?

Answer»

Hi!

I could use some help. When I try to view videos using IE8 on some websites they don't display. Examples are Carcraft.com and Discovery.com. Others like NBC.com work fine. The carcraft one has a black box on the right that normally displays a video it says loading forever. I have tried the following so far:

Reinstalled Adobe Flash Player numerous times
Disabled McAffee viruscan
Ran a variety of spyware removal applications
Reloaded IE8
Ran a repair of XP
Deleted a lot of applications that I thought might affect this
Deleted and reinstalled Java
Tried a bunch of Advanced settings in IE8 and also set Security and Privacy to the lowest levels
I tried IE8 using the safe mode and also IE8 with no addons
I shut off the XP firewall and I don't have any others installed
Tried all the other browsers available and they all have the same problem

Nothing has changed anything. I have FiOS for an ISP and have other PCs on my LAN with XP and IE8 but they all work okay so I think it It seems that something is blocking access to ooyala.com and discoverymedia.com. It's not my network because my other PCs work okay. There is nothing other than 127.0.0.1 on my hosts file. It must be my PC. My PC is a Dell GX620 and otherwise it works fine. I can't identify when this happened, but the Carcraft site worked before.

Any help will be well appreciated! If you go to http://www.adobe.com/software/flash/about/, does it confirm Flash Player is installed? What version? How much memory does your computer have? How much free space on the hard drive? Have you tried clearing your browser history?

How about trying another web browser such as Firefox, Opera, or Chrome? I have the latest Flash player installed, my PC has 2 Gigs of ram, and about 450 Gigs of free space on my hard drive and I have cleared the browser history many times. I have tried all other browsers and they all act the same. I pinged player.ooyala.com and static.discoverymedia.com and found they both end up with akamai.net locations. I don't have any spy blockers running but I have used a variety of clean up applications after a virus attack. I searched for akamai in the files on my hard drives and also in the registry but didn't find anything. try a boot to safemode with networking, see if problem still EXIST that way, I did start in safe mode with networking and IE acted the same. Thanks for responding! What kind of McAffe protection software is installed on your PC? What are the current versions on Java and Flash for IE?McAfee is Virusscan Enterprise 8.5.0i, Flash Player is 11.1.102.155, both the ActiveX and plug-in are installed and Java is 1.6.0_30-b12. All are the latest. ThanksWith regards to this "ooyala.com " do you meet all the criteria of this including that you are NOT being restricted by "demo account" as relates to this
http://www.ooyala.com/tos
truenorthI am not aware of anything that could be violating the ooyala.com TOS. I contacted ooyala for help and they surmised that something was blocking access to their player. They made no reference to the TOS. Besides static.discoverymedia.net causes the same problem. Thanks for responding.Quote

McAfee is Virusscan Enterprise 8.5.0i
Can you check this link if its the same version with patches available also : Release NOTES for VirusScan Enterprise 8.5i Patch 8
I am also looking into using another free antivirus software after uninstalling McAfee for testing purposes. Do you know how to determine which patches have been applied to McAfee? I found the "repair installation" option in tools on McAfee and used it. It said that it returns the software to the state it was upon installation and removes updates, patches and customizations. Upon the completion of that I manually used update to get to the latest levels again, but patches aren't mentioned other than to say that they are undone when doing a"repair installation". The browser acts the same as before. I'm trying to find the Virusscan CD so I can delete it and reinstall if necessary. Thanks for the response.Quote
Do you know how to determine which patches have been applied to McAfee?
Disregard the previous link on 8.5i patch 8 as further looking shows 8.5.0i is different. Looking at this site McAffee Product and Support Life Cycle, your current antivirus version support will end by Dec. 31, 2011. A newer version 8.8 with all the latest patches/hotfix. This could be a TIME to try and use other FREE antivirus. Avira, Avast, Microsoft Security Essential, AVG. So uninstalling this time would be commended. See this link also https://kc.mcafee.com/corporate/index?page=content&id=KB55208Thanks for the info on McAfee going out of support. I completed deleted it an installed Microsoft Security Essentials and ran a scan that detected nothing - good! The bad news is that IE8 continues to not display the sites mentioned earlier.Quote

I am out of ideas other than this where you could be infected or someone else may jump in to clear your problem. I see a sign of redirection in between this post. Hi,

Double check your Internet Options > Advanced tab. In Browsing section, the following should have:
with check
Disable script debugging (Internet Explorer)
Disable script debugging (other)
without check
Display a notification about EVERY script error

See my attached screen-shot. I'm using Internet Explorer 8.

Solve : 'Send' and 'Save as a Draft' not completing?

Answer»

I have the occasional problem with Firefox that when I click on 'Send' for an email I have COMPOSED, the circle next to the arrow shows something is happening but it does not complete. I have the same problem occasionally with 'Save as a Draft'. It happens on both computers I use with different versions of Firefox.I tried again with the same composed email but this time I got an error message from YahooMail when I clicked on 'Send' and also when I clicked on 'Save as a Draft'I tried 'Send' again and this time it worked. It is a nuisance to have this problem only occasionally. YahooMail Help may provide guidance. Just for the record, Firefox is just a browser and a WAY to get to your email SERVICE, and has nothing to do with your email problems. It sounds like you NEED to talk to Yahoo. This may be a sign that your internet connection is dropping occasionally (e.g. if you're using a wireless connection which is at low signal strength). I think it's unlikely that a webmail service provider will be able to assist you.

When you're experiencing the sluggish behaviour, can you still load other web pages? A quick fix is to use Ctrl-A (select all) and Ctrl-C (copy) within the body of the email to copy everything you've typed to the clipboard. Then hit Ctrl-F5 to force the webpage to refresh. Go the body of the message and press Ctrl-V to paste back in what you previously typed.Thank you Rob Pomeroy for what to do when it happens again. Neither computer is a wireless connection. I know what to do when the ADSL connection drops out. I refresh the modem. When the Send or Save as a Draft do not complete, everything else is as normal. When it happens again, I will follow your recommended procedure.Cool.

Solve : Firefox can't find server?

Answer»

After having the above problem I was advised to use the following commands at the DOS prompt:
1. ipconfig /flushdns

2. netsh winsock reset

then unplug modem for 30 seconds to reset it and restart the computer. This remedies the problem but it then re occurs within hours and several times in the one day in a long day.
Contact your ISP...
They can do a line test to see if the issue is on their end. Thanks patio. ISP already told me the problem is my end. I run XP by the way. I spend a lot of time BROWSING share prices and STOCK market forums so I wonder if the constant refreshing of screens has any bearing?I've had to have my Motorola cable modem replaced...... TWICE.
Both times my ISP assured me that there was NO problem with the modem.....but both times, replacing the modem solved a problem. The last modem that was replaced, would take up to 20 minutes to reset, instead of the normal, 20 to 30 seconds.

I've also had two Intellinet routers, that would just stop talking to the modem. Both went back for RMA.
I may NEVER have an Intellinet router again. I've got several Linksys routers and one Belkin N router that just work Great.

So if you think you're having a modem problem, insist that it be replaced. It should be worth it to your ISP to keep you as a happy customer. Eh?

PS:
Bobconus, I use XP too, and I am on the internet, JUMPING from forum to forum for hours at a time. Just using your computer should NOT cause the problems you mention, unless, something is getting hot. Open your computer and make sure all your cooling fans are running and that nothing is getting overly hot.

Afterthought: Firefox is CONSTANTLY working to make their browser more compatible and efficient. Make sure you stay up to date with the Firefox updates. I'm currently running FF 8.0.1
Two add-ons that you should also keep up with is Shockwave and Flash for Firefox.
It also doesn't hurt to keep Java up to date too.Quote from: bobconus on November 18, 2011, 05:08:37 AM

Another one solution for solving this problem is here may be it will useful for you.

When Firefox cannot connect to a server, it returns an error message similar to:

Server not found
Firefox can't find the server at domain server
If you are receiving this message:

1. Insure you write the domain name correctly.
2.If wrong domain name then correct it and get the information it is valid or not.

Then after connect the server and do the task.

Solve : Help! Why is it that I cant stream online videos one after another??

Answer»

Hi, my computer is new, and I've been wondering what is my problem here. Everytime I want to click on a new link to watch another video, my internet browser window stops responding so it gets jammed and I always have to restart the browser just to stream the next video. I TRIED to use a DIFFERENT browser, like firefox but the same problem still occurs.
Does anyone know the solution to this?? It would be a great help! What kind of connection do you have ? ?
Travel to SpeedTest and run the online test...Broadband. But not very fast connection. Then that's likely the issue...Oh man really...
Thanks for looking here anyway Could you be more SPECIFIC as to what the "videos" that are causing the problem are from (source). Don't need to know the specific videos (unless they are only a few specific ones). What about if you go to a streaming TV video source? Are they reacting the same way? Do those types run a while then buffer or what?truenorthVideo sources from any website at all. Like from youtube, facebook videos, daily motion etc. I just can't seem to just switch to another video using the same window. I have to open a new window to load another video. Its quite irritating I NOTE that you have tried an alternative browser to IE. I would like you to try one more browser "Opera" just to give a better indication if the problem is browser related. You have not indicated in response to my earlier question if you are going into buffering mode in the process of trying to view a video so can we assume you are not? truenorthQuote from: patio on November 17, 2011, 09:48:21 AM

Travel to SpeedTest and run the online test...
Did you do this? What was the result?

How about some info on your computer specifications? What OS? How much RAM? What CPU? Size hard drive? Free SPACE on hard drive?

And, on the software side, what Internet security protections are you running? Another thing to ask is where are you clicking on the next video? Within the current player window? (Many sites have clickable thumbnails that display other videos related to the one you just watched) Or somewhere else? (Links outside the video player, like down the side of the screeen or links below the video)

Have you tried reinstalling Flash Player?Do you have the most up-to-date version of flash installed?
I think they're up to v11.1.102.55 now.

Seconded.

It's possible the hosts file might have been hijacked. Open the hosts file in notepad and post the contents or a screenshot of the file here.

I don't see any mention of what OS you're using, so here's where the hosts file can be FOUND on various versions of Windows:

What version of Windows are you running?XP Home Edition. The file you are looking for should look something like this when you open it in Notepad:
Quote
# Copyright (c) 1993-2009 Microsoft Corp.
#
# This is a sample HOSTS file used by Microsoft TCP/IP for Windows.
#
# This file contains the mappings of IP addresses to host names. Each
# entry should be kept on an individual line. The IP address should
# be placed in the first column followed by the CORRESPONDING host name.
# The IP address and the host name should be separated by at least one
# space.
#
# Additionally, comments (such as these) may be inserted on individual
# lines or following the machine name denoted by a '#' symbol.
#
# For example:
#
# 102.54.94.97 rhino.acme.com # source server
# 38.25.63.10 x.acme.com # x client host

# localhost name resolution is handled within DNS itself.
#127.0.0.1 localhost
#::1 localhost

For Windows XP, it should be located in:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc

The file is just called "hosts", it has no extension (like exe or ini, etc.).The file that I sent is called 'HOSTNAME'; there are no others with 'host' in them at all. What is in the folder c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc ?

There should be several files there. None of them have EXTENSIONS and they all have short names like hosts, networks, protocols, etc.

Since they don't have extensions, clicking to open any of them will result in Windows asking you what to open them with. Choose Notepad.

Alternatively, you can go to Start->Run... and copy and paste this into it:
c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hostsQuote from: quaxo on November 21, 2011, 05:20:09 AM

This is what I did and I got the result as shown above. If you copy and paste that into the run box like I said, you would not get the result shown above. You got the result above likely by searching for "host" and finding "hostname.exe" which is in a completely different directory with a different file name. Copy and paste that last line I posted into the run box and you will be able to open the hosts file. That's "hosts", with an 's', not "host".

c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hostsHope this is the one:

All 3 known or popular browsesr today are better.

I have to agree with soybean on this, it's vague, and regardless of what the ambiguity resolves to (what three browsers?) it's simply wrong.

How would IE, Firefox, Safari, or Opera be more "secure" than Chrome, and on what basis did you come to this conclusion? And Why only compare to three, when there are at least four others in common use (noted above). The OP asked this :Quote
Is chrome a secure browser to open critical pages like online banking?
My response : Quote
All 3 known or popular browsesr today are better.
forget the typo error.
That is the purpose of QUOTING before I made that statement. It is generally directed to the query without being more specific. She asked secure and I said all 3 (of course without definitely naming) are better that most computer users know IE ,FF or Goggle Chrome. It is a recommendation not a comparison. Of course being popular means widely used and better today means later/latest versions more stable, compatible to different Windows OS (XP to 7)except for IE9 which is for Vista and Win 7 system only.

I need help to install Internet Explorer 9 32 bit version in my Windows 7 Home Premium 64 bit system.
I don't have a clue how to fix this, so any suggestion will be welcome.
In advance thank you for your reply.
Cheers. What is the problem?
What have you already done?

888-767-4169 is a toll-free number in the USA for IE9 help.
I have no idea what it is. Please check it out and let the forum know if this is legit.

EDIT: Forgot to ask why you don't use the 64 bit version:
HTTP://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?id=23332Why not go to http://windows.microsoft.com/en-US/internet-explorer/downloads/ie-9/worldwide-languages and download the 64 bit version? The reason that I'm asking for IE9 x86 is because Real Player Plus some features of it don't WORK properly and supports only IE9x86.
I know that there is a way to install a IE9 32bit version, but I don't know how.

@Geek-9pm
About the number that you wrote, I live in Kosovo (Europe) and don't have the possibility to dial that number.

Cheers. When you download and install the 64 bit IE9, the 32 bit version is also installed at the same time. But why don't you just download IE9-Windows7-x86-enu.exe from Microsoft.com?

And also while you are at it try Real Player Alternative...

Free ...and works better.
It will run fine on your 64bit OS.@patio
I'll give a try your suggestion.
I will let you know for the results.
Cheers.I tryed your suggestion patio, didn't liked the software, so installing it I have had to UNINSTALL Real Player.
After testing the software I installed again Real Player because it has more features like burn CD's/DVD's, download videos ec.
Cheers. Have you tried running C:\Program Files(x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe ?@Transfusion
Sorry for my late reply.
I tried your suggestion and didn't worked.
It tells me that IE9x86 stopped WORKING because of a problem and the window will close. (or similar because it's installed in German language)

Solve : IE won't play vids/deleted favourites?

Answer»

I don't know if my IE has updated itself or something, but for some reason it won't play vids anymore and my list of favourites has vanished. FIREFOX seems to play vids OK (Youtube for example), but I would like my favourites back! Any ideas?Hey there,

Do you know what VERSION of IE you were using? If so and you know how to CHECK this then check to see what version it is now. For the videos you might need to update to the latest version of adobe flash player.

B2As far as getting your favorites back: Check in your C: \ Users \ Favorites folder; IE used to store data in there. Usually IE wipes that clean when it dies THO. But it is a place you can look.

Solve : ISO 8859-1 Extended Characters?

Answer»

I'm trying to make a list of all the graphics that can be used under ISO 8859-1 for use in HTML.
There are between 10000 and 11000 characters available.
The first 1-255 are clearly defined.

I have checked different computers and different browsers and gotten different results.
What determines when the extended characters will display and which of them will be displayed?

The Browser or version of the Browser
The Operating System (Windows XP, VISTA, Windows 7)
The Printer installed
The Graphics card in the Computer
Something set within windows
Something set within the browser

Something that can be changed (I added ISO 8859-1 in HTML and it STILL isn't consistant)

Some of the Characters below will always display, in some cases only the BLACK characters will display, in other cases none.

King ♔    " & # 9812"

Queen ♕    " & # 9813"

Castle ♖    " & # 9814"

Bishop ♗    " & # 9815"

Knight ♘    " & # 9816"

Pawn ♙    " & # 9817"

Black King ♚    " & # 9818"

Black Queen ♛    " & # 9819"

Black Castle ♜    " & # 9820"

Black Bishop ♝    " & # 9821"

Black Knight ♞    " & # 9822"

Black Pawn ♟    " & # 9823"

From 1-255 appears consistant
From 266-7999 appears special characters related to Foreign Aphabets
From 8000-11000 appear to be graphic Character DISPLAYS

Solve : SEND delays?

Answer»

The system is windows 98SE. I composed an email in Yahoo and then clicked on SEND. The circle started to rotate at the top RH. A message appeared down on the LH bottom 'date transmission to no.bc.yahoo.com' and this went on for minutes. A message showed the email had been saved some time before but when I tried to SAVE nothing happened, presumedly because the SEND was still being processed. I copied the email to Word and then shut down and re-booted. The SEND worked this time. I have had this problem before. I expect that it is because of something I am doing - what? This is free Yahoo! Mail account, right? You use your web browser for email, right? So, where does the no.bc.yahoo.com come into play here? I am using Firefox. I draft an email in Yahoo and then click on SEND. Normally Done comes up on the bottom LH panel while Message Sent comes up near the top LH. HOWEVER, when the problem occurs, no.bc.yahoo.com comes up and the Message Sent does not and the circle in the RH top keeps going around.Unfortunately, I don't know what's causing that and I could not find good references on this problem. Here's a forum topic which is basically the same problem but the topic got no replies. See http://www.dslreports.com/forum/r19121294-yahoo.com-hangs-on-us.bc.yahoo.com-

Are you using any malware protection programs. A discussion at http://answers.yahoo.com/question/index?qid=20061003221600AATMMBK suggests scanning for malware.

You know, I'm sure, that Win 98SE is getting quite old. Not many spyware/malware/antivirus programs still support it. If you have enough drive space and have 512MB or more of RAM, you could install a Linux OS such as Ubuntu in a dual-boot configuration and try using the Linux OS when browsing the web. I can't say for sure that that would solve the problem but it could be a solution if malware is the issue here. I agree that it is probably due to malware. I run Spybot - Search & Destroy but the problem still occurs. I have a RELATED problem with DELETE in that on occasions when I click on it 'Read ade.yming.com' comes up down at the bottom LH and 'Loading .....' appears up top. This can go on for minutes. I can get rid of it by re-booting.

I have another computer with Windows 7. I BELIEVE my best move is to always use it for INTERNET and this one for Word and EXCEL. I have been slow in transferring to the new computer because I have been using this one for over a decade so was familiar with its mode of operation. However, problems are now making it difficult to use. Often now, an error message crops up and response stops as I am trying to interrogate a site. It reads 'Warning: Unresponsive script. Script on this page may be busy.' I have to click on 'Stop script' or 'continue' to get rid of the message.Quote

A: You just need to allow the following entries from the NoScript contextual menu:

Yes, I wholeheartedly agree with that. And, if your version of Microsoft Office will run with Windows 7, just install it on the newer system and make a complete transition. Noscript cannot be installed for my version of Firefox 2.20 which is the latest that can be installed with Windows 98. It seems that I cannot avoid these problems with such an old system. I have procrastinated in transferring to the Windows 7 computer because I have so much on the 98 computer that needs organizing yet I am very busy meeting commitments. Thank you for the advice and i will get on with the job!

Solve : Whether you need it or not?

I came across this today and thought that it may of interest to some.

    _______________________________________ ______________________________________

I keep seeing where hijacking, vulnerabilities, infections, etc., of various applications are prevalent. The latest one is another IE vulnerability; among other things. I believe there is a manual work-around for IE but no patch has been issued. I have IE8 installed. I use primarily Firefox (v3.6.13).

My question is this ... am I still vulnerable to attack(s) although I do not use IE8; or whichever application may be installed on my computer? Thanks and good work!

    • In general if you don't have or use a particular piece of software then you can safely ignore the updates and or vulnerability notifications that you might run across.
In general.Internet Explorer, on the other hand, is a special case. Use it or not, you must keep it up to date.
    • Internet Explorer Whether You Want It Or Not The most obvious scenarios are these:
Some websites work only with Internet Explorer. As IE's market share declines this is less common, but since businesses can count on IE being on every Windows machine they'll sometimes simply take the easy WAY out and worry only about IE when designing their web site. Want to visit their site? You'll have to fire up IE.
Some software will automatically fire up Internet Explorer if you use online help or "Visit our website" types of features. Frequently they'll use IE even when it isn't your default browser.
"Even though you might not be using Internet Explorer, you're still using Internet Explorer."
There's little to be done in cases like this, other than to be slightly annoyed.
Internet Explorer will come up, whether you want it or not. But at least it's obvious.
Internet Explorer is More Than Internet Explorer
The problem is actually more complex, albeit it conceptually fairly simple: Internet Explorer is found in more places than just Internet Explorer.
IE is comprised of several components - an HTML rendering ENGINE, internet access components, bookmarking functionality and so on. Perhaps the most important, though, is that HTML rendering engine.
I'll use that as my example.
When you visit a web page the contents of the web page are described in HyperText Markup Language, or HTML. Everything from references to images to the highlighting of words is specified in HTML. The rendering engine's job is to read that HTML, interpret it and make things appear as instructed.
For example, when the rendering engine sees "this should be bold" as HTML input, it produces "this should be bold" as its output displayed in the browser.
Considering the scope of all that can be described in HTML, the rendering engine is a pretty complex and large piece of work.
HTML is also a fairly common markup language USED in many more places that just web pages. Email, for example, is commonly in HTML these days, as are online help documents and even some software user interfaces.
It sure would be nice if we didn't have to create an entirely new HTML rendering engine for each different piece of software that might need to use one.
Well, that's exactly the situation we're faced with: the HTML rendering engine that we consider to be part of Internet Explorer is more properly a component of Windows itself. Email PROGRAMS, help programs and all sorts of other programs may well be using the "guts" of Internet Explorer when they display their content.
Even though you might not be using Internet Explorer, you're still using Internet Explorer.
The most surprising cases are some of the "alternative" browsers themselves. While Firefox, Chrome and many others do indeed have their own independent rendering engines, some do not. Maxthon, for example, simply places its own user interface and feature set around the Internet Explorer HTML rendering engine.
Bottom Line: You're Using It, Keep It Updated
The bottom line to all this is indeed very simple: like it or not, you're using IE somewhere. As a result you'll want to make sure and keep it updated with all the latest security patches as they're made available.
You may do most of your web browsing using other tools, and that's just fine, but IE remains on your system, and remains a potential point of ENTRY for malware to exploit.
Where did you get that? It has some valid points.

But, I really don't see much to be concerned about regarding IE. Just let Windows Updates install the IE patches along with Windows patches and your system should be fine. http://ask-leo.com/am_i_at_risk_for_internet_explorer_vulnerabilities_even_though_i_use_a_different_browser.htmlQuote from: soybean on February 24, 2011, 09:38:40 PM

Thanks soybean. I posted this in hopes of getting a few comments. The writer does go on to say in another article that Windows updates require IE . Some body correct me if I'm wrong, but from what I've seen cookie numbers and IP address are totally different and independent from each other.@rthompson80819: When did I say they are the same? I was trying to offer one possible explanation as to how some places still recognize his computer even after the IP address change.Quote
my question is it seems some places know this is the same address even if the ending numbers change is this correct?
A number of websites offer certain services to identify your current IP address(Static or Dynamic). And its not called an Internet IP address but only IP address.
http://whatismyipaddress.com/ Some ISPs give you a static IP to your account.

However, no the first two SETS merely identify the ISP.

ISPs purchase a certain range of IP addresses to hand out to their customers.

Eg doing a WHOIS on my ip shows this:
    inetnum: 118.93.0.0 - 118.93.255.255
    netname: IP-VFNZ-BROADBAND-2
descr: Dynamic IP allocation pool for broadband services

This shows that any address in the 118.93.*.* range belongs to my ISP, Vodafone New Zealand.

Websites track who you are by using 'cookies' to store your information
Every time you get online with Dial-up your IP changes.

    This can fool some websites.
But if REALLY want to get rid of time limit from websites like rapidshare or megaupload then I would advice to use this addon for firefox

    Cookie editor - https://addons.mozilla.org/en-us/firefox/addon/add-n-edit-cookies/

It can add and edit cookies. Just search for the right cookie and deleting it will make your IP look fresh for the websitehey,

Correct me if im wrong: to explain the four set of numbers with three periods separating the numbers means that your ISP uses IPv6 addresses.
As for the last two that keeps on changing it is the number that IDs the HOST which is you, so the last two will keep on changing to the range allocated to your ISP.

That's an IPv4 address format. An IPv6 address is represented as eight groups of four hexadecimal digits, each group representing 16 bits (two octets). The groups are separated by colons ( : ). An example of an IPv6 address is:

Solve : IE does not recognize Macromedia Flash Player?

    Answer»

About a week ago, I installed XP, SP2. Ever SINCE then, I have been getting a message in Internet Explorer that I need to install Macromedia Flash. However, I already had Flash. I've spent hours uninstalling and re-installing Flash, and CONSISTENTLY get the same RESPONSE from IE. I have no problem installing Macromedia Shockwave.

I installed Mozilla Firefox to see if the same problem would occur there. Fortunately, when I use Firefox, it recognizes that I truly do have Macromedia Flash Player installed on my PC.

What do I need to do to get IE to recognize that Flash is on the PC? (I tried to re-install IE, but the message I got was that the version I'm running is higher than what I was TRYING to install!).

Thanks to anyone who can help!Stop using IE? You only need it for Windows updates.

Try to ping a website to check that your computer's connection to the internet is able to reach google.com (google should be working) .

    Quote

    Click Start
    Click Run
    Type "command" and press enter.

The DOS window will pop up. At the C:\WINDOWS> prompt type ping www.google.com and press enter.

You will see some results pass through the screen.
What do you see? Do you see anything about a reply from and 0% packet loss and such? That should be normal. But if you're not getting that, it's weird.

Then to close the DOS window, type exit at the C:\WINDOWS> prompt and press enter.

If that's all normal, then maybe you'll want to try resetting IE or making a new firefox profile.

And lastly, if then that doesn't help, you may have a malware or something on your pc needs taken care of.

    That's what I think, hopefully it'll help.

If you're still stuck, maybe someone else has a BETTER idea

I think you should check your setting from browser tools option !!Some virus MANIPULATES or hijacks the web browser causing to block websites. But please do 1st their recommendation above and post the result of your testing. If when you opened the IE page and it said IE cant display the web page,
    try this;
Go to control panel, network and internet, internet options, on the internet properties windosw, youll have some options, on the first ONE that is general, you have the option to delete cookies, then go to connections, and there is an option tha said Dial up and virtual private network settings, there must not be any network, it must be empty, then pressed on the same option where u are, connections, the lan settings option and check if there is an option marked where said proxy server, there must not be any check marked, and at last optimized your browser, go to the last option advanced and click on reset,
it works to me........I suppose this thread is officially dead unless sigmundf comes back Hi,

Yes, they are recoverable. They, after all, are simply files. To answer Hambones question in simple terms, files or information, are not deleted when you hit the delete key, rather it's like a book index or table of contents, and you are DELETING the index reference, not the actual file. The file is still there (you just don't see it) until you over write it with another file.

Solve : flash playe rupdate works smoothly with Firefox & Opera but troublesome with IE?

    Answer»

At least, that is my most recent experience. Earlier today, when I turned on my computer and even before opening a browser, an alert popped up on my screen saying an update to Flash Player (FP) was available and it was prompting me to allow it to install. I installed this update and it was immediately applied to FIREFOX and Opera.

Now, IE has always required separate updating. So, I opened IE, went to Adobe's website, downloaded the FP update and attempted to install it. It would not install until I opened Programs and Features (Windows 7) and uninstalled the older version for IE. The odd thing about this is that the instructions on Adobe's website for INSTALLING the update in IE make no mention of removing the older version. This implies that removing the older version is not necessary and, historically, it has not been necessary to uninstall the older version of FP for IE before installing an update to FP.

Is this consistent with your experience?soybean,Scroll down on this site until you get to the "vista/win 7 part. Looks like this is a KNOWN issue on some computers.

    http://www.mozilla.orgThere's about 6 SP's for ME...

SP2 is not a title, it stands for Service Pack..Quote

    1. Is that problem because in my system ihas been installed with the windows ME , the IE 5.5 and it conflicts with the new installation which I am trying to perform?...

    Yes, WinME is the problem.

So, it works with IE and Firefox??Always close IE in full page and when relaunch next time EVEN after cold REBOOT would still be in full. Other than that, there is nothing I can suggest except to use other browsers that is not going half page when open(re).

Solve : Internet Explorer 8 Saved passwords?

    Answer»

Is there a way to expose the saved passwords without DOWNLOADING any SOFTWARE? You've all seen those ****** or ●●●●●●● in the password FIELD. How can i see what actual characters are?

Just pointing out, this thread is not related to my other thread in this section. lol Ive got that all worked out.
or, downloading something is fine too. If it Is necessary to download something to do to what i want, could i put the software on an external drive and then use it without putting it on the main system? Why do you want to expose them? If they could be easily exposed, they wouldn't provide much security, now would they? If you're trying to recall a CERTAIN password, then use the Forgot password FEATURE on the website and reset your password.

Solve : can someone hack into computer??

    Answer»

    Hi,
My question is on my computer under google search it shows what I looked up and then it shows some SITES under google search that I didn't look up. Under history under google search does that only show what has been looked at on my computer or can SOMEONE hack in and make it look like those sites were SEARCHED for on my computer I don't know if someone is looking them up on my computer or if someone can hack in and make it look that way. Again this is coming up under history under google search so can that be tampered with?Quote

or can someone hack in and make it look like those sites were searched for on my compute

I very much doubt any kind of hacker would find it exciting to hack into your computer and make it look like you visited certain websites. Donot confuse hackers with your own mistakes. You most likely have spyware installed.

Install a virus scanner, spyware scanner and a firewall.

He's also probably missed out on OpenOffice, which yet again is arguably so much better than MS Office, and approximately $399.99 cheaper (price according to MS online shop). In other words, also free.

Solve : cant view any sites or connect to any messengers?

    Answer»

Ok I installed ZoneAlarm SECURITY Suite v5.1 on my aunts computer, and after i REBOOTED it would not let me VIEW any sites or connect to any messengers so i unistalled ZA rebooted again and still it will not let me view any sites or connect to any messengers. So i called her DSL provider and he said that IE is the problem to call HP.

Does ANYONE no why i cant view any sites or connect to any messengers?

If IE was the problem would it stop the messengers from opening?

I went to network connections and it said that it is connected to the internet.

oh the OS is XP home

Can someone please helpJason....I'm not entirely sure , but I think Zone Alarm may have caused your IE security options to be changed .......click tools / Internet options ......then click security tab .......then click the default level......then click apply and then ok. Then go to tools/internet options ...then click the privacy tab and then click the default.....then apply and then ok ......Try it now HOPEFULLY you will be back to nornal..........or if all else fails....use the system restore feature and restore back to the day before you installed Zone Alarm .

    Hope this helps .

dl65 You should configure ZA before running it. If you donot know what you are doing, refer to the tutorial and have the program run you through the settings.

Solve : Adobe flash player crashed repeatedly?

    Answer»

I ASSUME it's only crashing with high volume streaming on flash?
Do you have multiple web-pages open at a time?
Check to make sure your net isn't cutting out sometimes. Are you using a wi-fi signal or wired?

Do you use any anti-virus scanners like AVG which has a web link scanner? They might be interferring while doing their scan.

Update your graphic card drivers to the latest version (if not already) as it might be an issue with 'graphic' hardware acceleration on flash.

    Also note:
Mozilla is urging all users to update to FIREFOX 3.6.6 in order to fix performance slowdowns and problems with the most recent Adobe Flash plugin version 10.1.63.54, installed as part of Flash Player 10.1. Wrote in a blog post that Firefox 3.6.6 brought along enhancements to the crash protection feature, first introduced in Firefox 3.6.4.

Crash protection, also called out-of-process plugin support, basically allows you to reload the web page when a plugin like Flash or Silverlight becomes unresponsive rather than bring down the entire browser. Firefox 3.6.6 simply extends the amount of time it’ll wait before terminating unresponsive plugins:

    Quote

Following the release of Firefox 3.6.4 we heard from some users, mainly those using older computers, that they sometimes expect longer periods of non-responsiveness from plugins, especially with games. For these users the default timeout of 10 SECONDS was too short. To address this, we increased the amount of time Firefox waits for a plugin to respond before terminating it from 10 to 45 seconds.

It looks like a lot of people might be having issues with the latest version of flash crashing:
http://forums.adobe.com/thread/666489?tstart=0I tried again today to watch espn3 on my laptop. Invariably the program crashed after a few MINUTES. Also, it will stop or lag often as I watch. I have tried reinstalling firefox 3.6.12 which is supposed to have crash protection. I have reinstalled over and over adobe flash player the latest version. I have gone into adobe settings and unchecked hardware acceleration and I have changed it to 1 mb. Nothing is working. This is very aggravating as there are tennis tournaments coming up I would like to watch on my computer, etc. I saw in the forum that many people have had this problem and no one knows how to fix it. Any new ideas from anyone? I have dsl internet connection on an acer laptop with 4 gb of ram, 320 gb hard drive and wireless is in the house but I am fully wired up to my connection. Thanks for any help I get.I hate to pass the buck, but I suggest you contact Verizon support and see if they have any thoughts.A very recent update to Flash Player is available. It's version 10.1.102.64.I had the same problem with flash player crashing when viewing events on espn3. I decided to uninstall flash player and reinstall it. I discovered that I actually had flash 10 and flash 10.1 installed. Apparently when I upgraded to flash 10.1 it left the old version behind, too. So I uninstalled both. Then I ran a registry scan and repair. I also discovered that there is a developers release for flash 10.2. You can find it here:

    http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/flashplayer10/

So far, this seems to have resolved my issue. Flash not longer CRASHES, and version 10.2 has very good performance!

    Hope this helps.

Next go back into Internet options .....and this time select the security tab......you will see 4 web CONTENT zones ....... Internet , Local Internet , Trusted sites and Restricted sites... set them as follows ......
    INTERNET.......Medium
    Local Internet .....Medium-Low
    Trusted Sites.......Low
    Restricted Sites.....High
    click apply and ok

Now go back to Internet options again ...and this time select the Privacy Tab.......... set the slider to Medium ...
    click apply and ok

Now .....click START /Control Panel ....and then click on "SYSTEM".....now the system properties box will be open ...make sure the General tab is the active tab........
you should see ... the MS logo......and beside that you should see the heading .....System .......( exactly what is listed there ? ) ........then below that you will see the heading registered to ......... a name ( probably yours)
and below that a serries of numbers.....exactly what are the numbers .........then below that the heading ...Computer and a description of your CPU and how much ram you have installed .

let us know re these settings and try to get msn messenger 6.2 ...you may have to create another hotmail address to make it work.

let us know how its going

    dl65
So I downloaded MSN messenger 6.2. It did not pop-up but I was able to do it manual. It didn't popup because another of those Active X warnings came up. I set all the Internet Options as directed.

Unfortunately, there was no "SYSTEM" heading in my control panel. So all that information I can't find. Is there any other way I can find out this information.

When I try to access MSN messenger 6.2. I get the message that my e-mail or password does not exist. I know they do and are correct. However, I do not use hotmail because I cannot access it. Thanks for trying. BillBill Rowell...If you havent used your hotmail or msn in a while they delete your account so just create another hotmail account ........BTW I sent you a Email at your other Email address .
You don't have an entry in your control panel called system ?
Do you have your control panel set to display as "classic or Catagory " Try Classic view and you should see system

dl65 Ok the classic view thing worked. The system is Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition Version 2002 and the RAM is 128MB. I hope this helps. BillBill Rowell.......You didnt mention if you had SP1 ( it should have been listed right under "Version 2002 "

And you didnt mention what the serries of numbers ws below that .

    let us know

dl65 Bill Rowell......Here's something else to check .....go into the control panel....switch it to classic view .....open auto updates and make sure it's turned on .

dl65 I checked in Control Panel for Auto Updates and I don't have that icon. I know where it should be by viewing it on a friends computer but my computer does not have it. I think my problem may be that my computer hasn't been updated in a long time. Is there some way of updating without having to go to Wiondows Update Website. The website does not allow you to download manually and my security settings don't allow the Active X to run properly. BillBill Rowell........Ok , Bill ....I have a idea of whats HAPPENING on your pc ....but theres more info I require to be able to tell you how to fix it and get you current with all the updates ..... I will send you a Email detailing exactly what to do ...rather than using up a lot of space here .........
